Love Is In The Air With Obamacare

Good morning!

Readers: LOL…don’t get me wrong, if Obama was single, I would be making the moves big time, if I had an inkling of a chance. :) What girl wouldn’t? I admit, I do admire the man big time, and I do think he is handsome. But you all already know I feel that way.

You should also know, my dear Readers, that I would NEVER ever go after the First Lady’s man, or any other woman’s man for that matter. That would not be the actions of a girl’s girl, which I am. It would be against everything I stand for in women supporting women. So shame on you for even taking me down that road. Perhaps Obama is just grateful for all of the positive press, support, and kudos I give him here, and that is his way of saying thanks and Happy Anniversary. I’d like to think that, but I doubt it. It’s probably just a coincidence, as Donna said. But, yes, I understand the deliciousness of it, as you all speculate. :) And, hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?

Thank you all again for the kind words and the continued Anniversary congrats.

Now…onto today’s write. Since Obama is definitely on my mind, here’s a write from Think Progress:

Turns Out, Republicans Love Obamacare

WeLoveObamacare2

Conservative groups have invested millions of dollars in opposing the Affordable Care Act, but they appear to have had little success in turning Americans against the law. In fact, according to a new poll from the Commonwealth Fund, individuals and families who enroll in Obamacare — including the overwhelming majority of Republicans — are satisfied with the product:

Overall, 73 percent of people who bought health plans and 87 percent of those who signed up for Medicaid said they were somewhat or very satisfied with their new health insurance. Seventy-four percent of newly insured Republicans liked their plans. Even 77 percent of people who had insurance before — including members of the much-publicized group whose plans got canceled last year — were happy with their new coverage.

The study also found that the percentage of uninsured has dropped, from 20 percent to 15 percent, after the first open enrollment period, with 9.5 million fewer people now uninsured. Latinos, the most likely of any racial group to lack health insurance, are seeing the biggest gains in coverage. “The percent uninsured fell from 36 percent in July–September 2013 to 23 percent in April–June 2014,” Commonwealth reports.

Moreover, states that expanded their Medicaid programs experienced the biggest drop in uninsurance rates for low-income citizens. In the 25 states and the District of Columbia that implemented coverage expansion for poorer residents, the average uninsured rate for people living below the poverty level fell to 17 percent from 28 percent. The 26 states that have rejected Medicaid expansion continue to see the uninsured rate among low income individuals hover at 36 percent.

The number of uninsured young adults dropped the most, the survey found, from 28 percent to 18 percent.

Commonwealth Fund conducted the survey from a July-to-September 2013 period, before Americans began enrolling in the Affordable Care Act, and then again from April-to-June 2014, following the end of open enrollment.

UPDATE: Significantly, the survey also found that more than half of adults — 58 percent — “with new insurance said they were better off now than they were before.”

    Daniel #8 yesterday,

You flatter me. I’m not so sure I’m all that interesting. Quite the opposite, really. But I meet strangers in business all the time so I might be up for a little discussion with a stranger. However, you said you could be dangerous, and that I definitely do not need.

    Have a nice day.

Turns out – repubs will jump on any bandwagon as long as it suits their needs, hmm, should I capitalize THEIR there?

& Turns out, Obamacare came back around to give my friend the attention she deserves, she wrote a lengthy letter documenting everything and they reviewed her case and she should be good to go soon … I’m thrilled for her …

I still, after 7 years, think it’s hysterical that the regulars are often thought of as characters you made up, you couldn’t get this kind of amazingness out of a talented pool of improv specialists … and life is often stranger than fiction, might be time for some summer photos again …

Okay, going to go enjoy this day – Luv to you all and I believe you’re all real bc that’s just the way I roll

It’s been great to see almost all the regulars make it to say a few words to our gracious blog host of 7 – and you’re commentary about you and Obama is exactly what I suspected – that’s true BABE badinage right there.

  3. Irene Says:

That’s the Michelle I know. But actually most of the anger was from jealously.

  4. Kelly S. Says:

Don’t include me in that jealousy accusation. I wasn’t accusing Michelle of anything. I was only asking if she knew Obama.

I think that she deserves any kudos he throws her way. This has been as Alycedale said the place to come to find unwavering support for Obama and his causes.

Michelle, if you thought I was accusing you of anything please accept my apology.

Teehee, hee, – Doug has a big one so he wouldn’t be jealous if she were.

But oh you tiny wee wee wonders, that’s another story you are all just so fixated on what’s in the pants of black guys you can’t think straight.

Kinda makes a girl wonder if you are just jealous of what she may get or what you can’t, huh?

  7. Tammy Says:

Like Irene#3 said people like you 14.Victoria – July 14th, 2014, are basically just jealous.

If you were not accusing her, why then the innuendo?
When will women like you actually get the kind of character of a Michelle and learn to support your sisters.

As she said, she would NEVER go after a married man, whoever he was.

Support that and let the rest take care of itself. If you can’t then try for god’s sake to recognize a woman who does.

  8. Tanya Says:

The people at fox fake news must be feeling like idiots right now.

Their fans like Obama Care. Won’t be long now before it will only be referred to as the ACA.

  9. Thomas Says:

My wife’s cousin just lost her job. She was the carrier of the health insurance for herself and her husband and their two daughters. She’s been railing at me-basically the only liberal in the extended family group-for years about how terrible Obama is and how the ACA is unconstitutional and socialist and an unwarranted government takeover of health care.

Guess what website she spent most of Wednesday on…

As the old saying goes, a Republican is just a Democrat who hasn’t been laid off yet.

  10. Abigail Says:

Did you read Michelle’s reply today? Oh, and don’t forget to check our Irene#3.

Of course, I doubt it will register because you are a jealous idiot.

Woman up and learn to support strong women. Then again you are probably just another one of those white women that follow white men lock-step.

  11. David Says:

Thomas#9, Remind her that she may actually have to call up her selected insurance carrier in a week or so, to be able to make the first premium payment via credit card.

Some insurance companies will not bill for the first payment. (Don’t ask me why–this is what happened to me.)

  12. Ellen Says:

    Zelda#19(14Jul14):

You are a complete asshole. Do you always go off accusing others before you know the facts?

God, I’d hate to be a woman in your circle.

  13. Thomas Says:

That’s a good point David#11. It hasn’t helped that she has been trying to figure out how to afford getting divorced from her alcoholic husband and still support their two kids. When it rains it pours.

  14. DSCC Says:

Desperate Tea Partier Thom Tillis (R-NC), trailing for the first time in months, has rammed through a disgusting voter suppression law for political gain.

MSNBC reports that “the law itself will boost Tillis by keeping some Democratic constituencies, especially non-whites and students, from the polls.”

Tillis’ outrageous voter suppression will threaten Democratic control of the entire Senate if we can’t respond. It could reverse Democrat Kay Hagan’s ten point surge in Nate Silver’s projected “tipping point race for Senate control.”

  15. Irwin Says:

Even though we should have a single payer system, the Republicans will never give any credit to Obama for trying to ease the burden on hospitals that have to treat those without any insurance.

However, it works when an individual, who lost their insurance or could never afford it, can pay for it at an affordable price, it eases their worries of having to go into deep debt or declare medical bankruptcy. It helps hospitals when people can at least contribute toward their health care instead of leaving the hospitals with unpaid bills and trying to find ways to make up for the loss. People will always need health care, regardless if they can pay in some way or not at all.

Now the problem is to find ways to lower the costs so that a hip surgery doesn’t cost $50,000 or more.

  16. Ron Says:

And AGAIN, when something is reported that Conservatives don’t like, they do what they do best………attack the SOURCE. Then present what they find from RASMUSSEN, The Drudge Report, Fox, etc., that supports right wing arguments.

You remember this stauch Conservative who LOVES his Obamacare. I know……he must have something to benefit from it……….YES he does………HEALTH CARE!

  17. Anonymous Says:

Fox-Watching Staunch Republican Loves His Obamacare

    http://crooksandliars.com/2014/03/fox-watching-staunch-republican-loves-his

All those stories Fox News and Republicans love to tell about how much harm the Affordable Care Act has done just got blown out of the water by one guy and his letter to the President.

    Full text:
I am a staunch Republican, a self-proclaimed Fox News addict, and I didn’t vote for the President. And I’m here to tell you that Obamacare works. I’m living proof.

I’m a chemotherapy patient, and was previously paying $428 a month for my health coverage. I was not thrilled when it was cancelled.

Then I submitted an application at HealthCare.gov. I looked at my options. And I signed up for a plan for $62 a month.

It’s the best health care I have ever had.

So right now, here’s what I want to tell anyone who still needs health insurance, or knows someone who does:

Sign up. Follow the instructions on the website. Apply, and look at your options. You still have time, and take it from me: This is something you want to do.

I wrote a letter to President Obama this past February to tell him about my experience with the Health Insurance Marketplace. I hoped he’d read it, and he did.

I may not be a supporter of the President. But now, I get mad when I see Obamacare dragged through the mud on television.

And even though I regularly tune in to conservative pundits, I’d like to tell them they’re getting it wrong. Obamacare works.

So one more time: If you still need health insurance, you have just three days to get it. Do what I did. Go to HealthCare.gov, submit an application, and pick a plan that works for you.
It just might change your life.

    Mark D. Bearden, Ph.D.
    Monroe, North Carolina

This is more of a lesson for Democrats than it is for Republicans. Republicans will keep flogging the dead horse and whining about how horrible it is. It’s up to Democrats to ignore that noise and focus on the good it’s doing. No lukewarm apologies. Own it and love it.

  18. PJ Says:

Thanks, Michelle, for posting this. It seems the only ones who aren’t happy are the uninsured in Red States

Maybe when they get tired of drinking the GOP koolaid, they will kick them all to the curb; once and for good.

#8 Tanya, narcissists and sociopaths rarely feel anything (not saying All repugs are this but clearly the leaders and faux news peeps are all in on some level) and they are masters of denial and ‘reframing’ events to reflect their new way (their new ‘normal’) and as #9 if it weren’t true it’d be funny.

[…] Kelly S: Thank you, but an apology from you was not necessary. Those who doubted me, and called me “names,” know who they are. And if they didn’t then, they know now thanks to those who have called them out. I really don’t pay much attention to those that oppose me – it’s actually amusing, and of course, I’m not surprised. All I can say is, oh, how different the world would be if all females were girl’s girls, and women supported women. Hey…again, a girl can dream can’t she? :) […]
