Just Noticing: “Observations Of A Blogger”

Good morning!
“Just noticing…”
From the Huff Po:
These Are The Things Men Say To Women On The Street
Street harassment is defined as any unwanted gawking, whistling, commenting and/or physical contact of a sexual nature — something that up to 99 percent of women report experiencing in their lifetimes. In case you needed proof that the sidewalk can be a hostile place for women, these are just a few of the things female editors at The Huffington Post have heard while walking down the street:

“Just noticing…”
What men are saying about street harassment.
This video was created by a group of women and men in NYC who believe that street harassment is wrong, and that we all have a role to play in ending it – especially us guys. The video shows non-violent some ways that men can interrupt street harassment as it happens. (And it happens all the time. Seriously. Go check. We will wait.)
“Just noticing…”
One guy stands up for women and he gets knocked unconscious.
From Think Progress:
Man Knocked Unconscious For Trying To Stick Up For Women Being Catcalled
NYC protester against street harassmenA 39-year-old man was knocked unconscious, and ended up being taken to the hospital for treatment, after attempting to push back against a group of men who were catcalling several women on a Philadelphia street this weekend.
According to NBC Philadelphia, the man was in downtown Philadelphia around 2:45 a.m. on Saturday when he noticed a car full of men pull up next to a group of women on the street. After they began taunting and catcalling the women, the man said something to the effect of “hey, watch what you’re saying.” That prompted the men get out and punch the victim in the head. He hit the concrete and fell unconscious.
The man, whose name is not being released, received treatment for his head injuries in the hospital. “This is a tragic, tragic story. Here’s a guy trying to stick up for these girls and he gets victimized,” Philadelphia police captain George Fuchs told NBC.
The incident highlights the fact that it’s not entirely uncommon for street harassment — something that an estimated 65 percent of women have experienced at some point — to turn deadly. Although catcalling is often framedas simply a compliment for the women subject to strangers’ advances, and it’s hard for some people to understand why women wouldn’t enjoy being reminded that they’re attractive, research into the subject has revealed it actually makes victims feel unsafe. The majority of women report feeling “angry, annoyed, disgusted, nervous, and scared” when they’re catcalled, and many of them are concerned it will escalate into something more physically threatening.
There’s a lot of precedent for those concerns. When women reject men’s sexual advances, they’re often met with violence, even when they’re in public. For instance, last year, a 14-year-girl was walking down the street when a man offered her $200 to have sex with him; when she refused, he pulled her by the hair and choked her. Not long after that, a woman was on a run in California when a man pulled up next to her and offered her a ride; when she declined, he hit her multiple times with his car.
Many more stories along these lines are collected on the website “When Women Refuse,” which was launched after Elliott Rodger went on a shooting rampage against “every single blonde slut” who rejected him and sparked a national conversation about gender-based violence.
Street harassment prevention groups encourage men to be part of the solution by speaking up when they see women on the receiving end of unwanted attention. As the incident in Philadelphia illustrates, that can sometimes subject allies to the same type of violence that plagues women.

Most men are idiots who allow their penis to make most of their most important decisions.

I have discovered that the crespuscular Ynly have entered the web when the Emperor was forced to leave it open. Some of you are sheltering them for their ability to be telepathic.
You are aware that when they feed on humans they can create what humans consider werewolves/vampires. They need to be turned in to the Emperor and defanged immediately.
Should you wait more than 24 hours from this notice. I will see to it that the Emperor has the names of all I know to be harboring them.

If anyone is serious about comparing President performance and intelligence consider this:
How Iraq was and is now being handled.
Before Obama all the PROTUS supported dictators who ruled with only the faction of government that supported their race, gender, religion, and or politics.
The reason is they were all white and used to doing the same thing in America. They supported their race, gender, religion and or politics over the OTWs, and other different factions in America.
Obama operates differently. In his country he tries to include all the citizens in the operation of its government and the benefits and opportunities available to its citizens.
The white presidents before him always gave deference to the white race, of that the white males of that those of his political party, of that those of his religious beliefs. Hence, they did not see anything wrong in other dictators doing the same.
Obama told the president dictator to be that if he and the present Iraqi government wouldn’t include other factions in the rule of Iraq he would allow Iraq to fall.
They tested him and he allowed ISIS to bring Iraq close to ruin. They blinked and got rid of the dictator to be and began to from another government this time one that will include the minority Sunnis.
The republicans are busy attempting to convince the rest of us that Obama was wrong for not aiding the Iraqis sooner. But as Obama said the only way ISIS could grow so big so fast was because they were being accepted by the millions of Sunni Iraqis that were being disenfranchised by their own government.
Obama sees it as once the Sunni minority sees they are part of Iraq they will defend Iraq.
Also the new Shiite ruling part of Iraq purged the Sunni officers who were the leaders of their military. Without military skills to lead their army they were no match for the generals who were leading ISIS.
Obama has ordered the new government to reach out to those Sunni generals and begin to put their military in a position to win a battle or two against ISIS.
America is in the best position it has ever been in with this man at the head. Too bad we have a bunch of racists who can only see the color of his skin.

Adam,
Just curious … did JFK Jr’s plane go down 15 years ago due to pilot error or was something more Kennedy-esque at play?
I’m asking bc, the incident is on the cover of People this week …
Yes, she looks exactly like me (got the calls) … in that photo.
And that profile wedding photo (got the calls then also), though, we actually do not look alike at all, not really…

Zen Lill, he was murdered.
Adam.
August 24th, 2014 at 7:57 pm
Adam, thank you.
… though that was a very abbreviated version … could you elaborate please and were the 2 women just ‘collateral damage’ or were they part of the master plan, and who murdered them all? Any and all detail would be greatly appreciated.

Show me a woman complaining of unwanted sexual advances, and I’ll show you a reactionary calling her a prude who’s ruining feminism.
This week it’s David Foster, in The Guardian. He argues that Everyday Sexism, a campaign to catalogue the routine harassments and biases facing women, has gone too far, “conflating deplorable and even criminal acts with sexually liberated…
——————–
Most men are so misogynistic it is useless to think they can be helped. We need laws to protect us from them.
August 24th, 2014 at 8:59 pm
I’ll never forget the punk who yelled, “Gonna rape you!” as he drove past me.
I was trying to cross the street in front of my own house.
August 24th, 2014 at 9:05 pm
If men knew what being constantly harassed by rude men making sexually suggestive insults does to the mood of a woman he would know that he will not in the end is NOT going to be getting lucky tonight or most other nights when his lady comes home verbally battered and not liking any men very much.
I wish men would catch onto that part. Maybe they’d get a little more serious about telling the hooting jackasses to shut the fuck up.
August 24th, 2014 at 9:06 pm
Ladies, where does this happen?
I have never heard anything like this on the streets anywhere that I have been. Only seen it on tv/movies. I’m not doubting it exists but I’m surprised Ive never heard it
August 24th, 2014 at 9:07 pm
The bus stop is where I got harassed the most.
Guys driving by, guys walking by, guys waiting at the stop with you. Sometimes when I’d see a guy alone at the stop, I’d walk to the next one if I had time. Amazingly, not so much on the bus. Weird, huh?
on edit: I still ride the bus, only at 57, I’m the one most likely to strike up a convo with anyone not reading or looking at a device. I
love asking people where they’re from, what they’re doing in the area, if they’re going to school, what they’re studying. I’ve met some delightful people. It’s fun.
August 24th, 2014 at 9:11 pm
I don’t think that’s it is as bad as you think.
Or if it is, you’d have to ask the question
What percentage of men think (or act in such a way that shows they believe) that public spaces are men’s spaces?
I bet the answer would be quite low, lower than 10%. Maybe even lower than 1%.
Granted, if you live in a city with 50,000 adults or near-adults, then even 5% is a lot of people (about 1,250) and you could easily run into such a person once or twice a week.
I think it is more complicated than a simple “some men want to rule the world” hypothesis.
August 24th, 2014 at 9:24 pm
I know, it is a terrible thing to ask some people to narrow the focus of their attacks.
And I think it is quite absurd to postulate that very many men have the attitude that “public spaces are men’s spaces”.
I mean, I can only speak for one man, myself, but there’s nothing I love better than going out and seeing attractive women out and about.
If one really wants to know why those guys do what they do, it might help to do a little bit of investigation about who they are and why they do anything.
August 24th, 2014 at 9:26 pm
The world IS ruled by men.
Whether individual men think about ruling the world or not, you do rule the world & you rule the public space. I don’t know what percent of men behave this way, but it’s enough that women are often uncomfortable going out alone. You may never witness it, but you know men who behave this way when they are alone.
August 25th, 2014 at 1:27 am
Men sexually harass women not because they are interested in having sex with them. Like rape it is a way for them to feel they have power and control over you.
August 25th, 2014 at 2:12 am
Kate#14, most men want to control women. They use anything, to do so. They will use religion as an excuse to make laws that control our bodies; the way we dress (if you dress that way, men will treat you like a slut), who we can be with (a good woman wouldn’t be seen with [fill in the blank]) , what we can say (women shouldn’t curse), etc.
These men think men have the right to control women. Hence if a woman is alone in a public space without a man other men think they have the right to take control of that woman while she is in that public space.
That’s why men who harass women in public spaces don’t do it when she is with a man. They consider her his property and hence he is in Control of her.
An unaccompanied woman is an uncontrolled woman, and as such, a legitimate target.
You can tell this is true because:
1. some men will mock other men for seeming to be controlled by other men ( he’s whipped or he’s pussy whipped)
2. a guy will apologize to a guy for hitting on a woman he’s without thinking of apologizing to the woman.
3. Women know this that’s why women will say to a man harassing her “I have a boyfriend” to make him think she is already taken (controlled)
4. men speak about women as though she was an object (“I wouldn’t mind borrowing that for an evening…”)
Most men think that a woman is “something” that is or should be controlled by men and when they abuse, assault or harass women that all men have the same belief as they do about the ownership and treatment of women.
August 25th, 2014 at 3:03 am
I doubt there is a woman alive in America who hasn’t experienced this form of public humiliation. Ask any freaking woman you know.
Yet, men will act as if it isn’t all that bad.
August 25th, 2014 at 3:06 am
Alison#16, I just checked this blog before heading for work. You are so right. Every time it every happened to me, I was walking down the street, either alone, or with one other female.
It has happened to me on rural country roads.
It has happened to me in big cities.
It has happened to me in small towns.
But every time, I was alone, or with one other female.
If a woman is with a man, it never, ever happens.
Oh wait, there was one time I was at a flea market with my husband, a couple of young men leered at me (but didn’t say anything), and my husband had one pinned up against a wall by his throat in about half a second.
I am guessing meeting that kind of reaction teaches boys/men to tone it down if the woman appears to be “taken”. Although I think most boys/men instinctively steer clear of women who are “taken”.
The ownership mentality is fucking sick.
I was angry at my husband for reacting that way. It made me feel as if I was some kind of prize being fought over, like dogs fighting over a scrap of meat. And not a grown person with my own free will.

Lois#1, well I hardly believe that you have been with or even known most men, a very high number, it is possible. You must have been a very busy girl. You sure do have a thing for MOST men as you use the word MOST three times in one sentence.
I for one believe you. How was I? And I don’t even think with my dick.

Howe, I would like to be your Lady in Waiting. I am not a daughter of Israel. I live in Nîmes. It is a city in southern France.
I am 27 and I work as a language interpreter. I am seeking my post graduate degree and attending Nîmes’ University, UNÎMES.
I have been reading this blog since I was 21. I enjoy the multinational participation and the variety of topics Michelle’s selects to push the reader.
I am not a big UFO fan, but I have always been intrigued by your passion for Israel. But mostly I admire the positions you take on the issues of the day.
I missed your fire for a cause when you took your hiatus from the blog. I felt that I missed an opportunity to tell you how I felt about your character and opinions.
I don’t usually like americans. When they come to my country they ogle me or think they are flattering me my saying “we could use more tall green eyed blondes like you in America.”
I see it as a from of harassment because I am there to help them breach the language gap not to be flirted with.
I am aware that the misogynistic company I work for picks tall blonde lookers over other qualified applicants because we are asked for more (they publish a picture album so that the groups can select their interpreter—-purely sexists.) often.
My best girl is French/Lebanese and she says that american men can be very cruel. They call her a camel nigger or terrorist. She mother is french and her father was born in Lebanon but is a naturalized french citizen.
She often comments on this blog using various alias. I always use my Irene. Of all the men on this blog I think you engage a problem with intelligence and the occasional passionate burst to make a girl swoon.
So how do you feel about having a “Lady in Waiting” who may never make it to America?
August 25th, 2014 at 9:31 am
Lance#19, you are the just the pencil size dick I was referring to. That’s all you think with. Undoubtedly you are an insecure white boy because of that tiny dick.
My “most” included men of all races so don’t go screaming I am jumping on white men. Most of you men are dogs and you think that women should be controlled by a man.
All you have to do is look at the myriad of laws men pass in an attempt to control women’s bodies. The only thing you believe is that you are superior because you are a man.
August 25th, 2014 at 9:39 am
Lance#19, what an idiotic hypocrite you are. You can even see that you are contradicting yourself in the same post.
You accuse Lois#1 of lying when she used the adjective “most” and then you say “I for one believe you.”
The one thing that you said I agree with is “And I don’t even think with my dick.” No you don’t that’s because you do think at all, you just run your motor mouth revealing the idiot you are.

Bravo! Lance, you just proved Lois#1″s point.
August 25th, 2014 at 9:49 am
Lance#19, in the future allow us real men to speak for ourselves.
Lois#1, yes you are correct. I have often been in the presence of men who have referred to women as objects. I confess that I haven’t always stood up for that woman.
I have made a resolve to do so in the future and to never allow a man in my presence to disrespect a female.
August 25th, 2014 at 10:18 am
Lance #19: I do not see the point of your comment, is there one? If there is I can’t see it, you are all over the place in your rant. Jerk!
August 25th, 2014 at 10:33 am
You american women have a difficult time with your men because as men they believe that women should be controlled by men.
Those are the same men who make our lives miserable by supporting arab men who believe the same thing. It is an international conspiracy by men. They are in agreement that women should be controlled by men.
There differences are with politics, religion, or simply how they will make money from getting a war started or keeping the men at each others throats.
The only certainty is that none of the men care about what women want or how the suffer at the hands of the various governments that the men run.
The end result is that we as women are being subjugated and marginalized in every country on this planet to various degrees.

[…] Robert I: Thanks for posting your comment. Obama is the first president who truly wants the diversity of this country to have an equal voice, and who doesn’t put money and his race ahead of others like all the past presidents did, and what the repubs are currently trying to do. Repubs will ruin this country and the world, which include their own friends and family, because of their deeply rooted racism and their obsession of money and retaining white power. […]
