Good morning!
Since today is Friday and we’re moving into the weekend where we all know…lovers get together and start flapping lips, I thought this should be the write to post…not to mention a “wink and a smile” to my Asian readers.

James Shigeta ‘Led The Way’ For Asian-American Lovers On Screen

Actor James Shigeta had the looks, the talent — and the voice.
“It’s melodious. It’s deep. There is something quite sensuous about it,” says L.S. Kim, a film professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Kim adds that Shigeta — who died from pulmonary failure on Monday in Beverly Hills at age 85, according to his agent Jeffrey Leavitt — embodied an unusual sight on the big screen: a self-assured Asian-American man.
“In many portrayals of Asian-American men in particular, there is no sense of confidence. And with James Shigeta, his screen presence was as deep and seductive as his voice,” Kim says.
A co-star of the 1961 movie musical Flower Drum Song, Shigeta broke barriers on screen as one of Hollywood’s first Asian-American actors to play romantic lead characters. In Bridge to the Sun, a 1961 film based on a memoir of the same name, Shigeta played Hidenari Terasaki, a dashing Japanese diplomat from Tokyo who meets cute and later marries Gwen Harold, a young white woman from Johnson City, Tenn.
Bridge to the Sun was based on a memoir about a real-life interracial couple living in Japan during World War II.
The ‘Tragedy’ Of Being Asian-American
Only two years earlier, Shigeta had made his film debut in The Crimson Kimono as a Japanese-American homicide detective in Los Angeles caught in a love triangle between his white police partner and a key witness in their murder case. For a black-and-white film from 1959, there was a bit of a surprise ending for Shigeta’s character.
“Oh, he wound up with the girl!” Shigeta explained with a hearty laugh in the 2006 documentary The Slanted Screen: Asian Men in Film and Television.
The plotline became a selling point for The Crimson Kimono. Movie posters showed Shigeta’s character kissing a white woman. “Yes, this is a beautiful American girl in the arms of a Japanese boy!” one poster declared. “What was his strange appeal for American girls?”
In The Crimson Kimono, Shigeta plays a homicide detective investigating the murder of a burlesque dancer in Los Angeles.
Shigeta’s role in that film won him a Golden Globe Award in 1960 for most promising newcomer.
“He clearly had the talent, but the roles weren’t there, because unless there was a role that was written for an Asian-American, he would not be considered. And that’s the tragedy here,” explains Jeff Adachi, San Francisco’s elected public defender who interviewed Shigeta for The Slanted Screen.
A Pioneer Who ‘Led The Way’
In the documentary, which Adachi wrote, directed and produced, Shigeta recalled an exchange he had early in his career with an MGM producer who told him, “If you were white, you’d be a hell of a big star.” Shigeta, who was born in what was then the Territory of Hawaii to a family of Japanese descent, said that encounter was “the first time that [he] had some kind of a clue as to the fact that there might be some discrimination out there.”
“It’s a very difficult business. It’s a constant struggle even if you’re not Asian,” says actress Nancy Kwan, who co-starred with Shigeta in Flower Drum Song. “He was a pioneer. He led the way.”
Shigeta leaves behind a career on screen that lasted half a century. He had smaller, supporting parts in Die Hard and in television series like Hawaii Five-O. But in his earliest movies, he often got top billing and the girl. And for an Asian-American actor, that’s a benchmark still remarkable today.

Chief Jackson told reporters last week that media requests forced him to release an incident report and video that allegedly shows Michael Brown robbing a convenience store and stealing a box of cigars. But he has yet to release another incident report documenting Brown’s killing, which various media outlets have also demanded.
The reason is obvious they want the option of continuing to manipulate the story to fit whatever information they get to facilitate the lie that the shooting was justified.

AH and Adam: I think I get it too, time works the past to assure that the future is what it is supposed to be, at least to some degree. Minor anomalies in the past don’t seem to affect what has already happened.
Some force unknown to me, works to keep what has already happened, from being changed to not happening by changes in the past. Which are not supposed to normally take place. Que sera, sera.

He claims the victim, Kajieme Powell charged the officers while holding a knife over his head in an attack position. He claims the cops didn’t take out their guns until they felt their lives in danger. He claims Powell came over to the car and threatened the cop on the passenger side. All Lies!!!!!!!
The Bastards got out taking their guns out. Powell NEVER raised a knife in a threatening manner and he was shot 6 times more than five feet away from the officers and shot about 6 more times while he was laying dying on the ground.
To show their disdain for the black community they rolled the body over and handcuffed his dead body and allowed it to lay there for all to see. Then they brought in dozens of other thugs with badges and forced the blacks to move a block away.
This sick shit has been played on any of the news media. They are giving these murders a pass.

I was pulled over a year ago in Miss. heading to Memphis. I was not speeding, had my seat belt on, and was merging into interstate traffic after a stop for gas and snacks.
A Miss. state Police officer, who saw me leave the gas station, followed me, and after a few minutes pulled me over. I asked him one question. “why was I stopped?” That led to my car ( a Saturn SUV) being searched, additional police ( presumably for back up).
I was questioned,’ how many times have you been arrested (huh?) Where are going (none of your business). Where are you coming from (again…none of your business) 30 minutes later, finding nothing, and squirting a packet of ketchup all over my upholstery during their search they let me go. No ticket.
Now, no matter your race, are we really supposed to put up with being treated this way?

The 1st amendment is the LAW not an option. If the police are not required to observe the LAW, who are we supposed to turn to. I don’t hear this guy saying,” if you don’t want to get shot, don’t exercise your 2nd Amendment Rights.” Like to see how that would play among his supporters.
The reality is, there are white men walking around the streets, in stores. in restaurants and at political rallies, armed to the teeth without being questioned or challenged by law enforcement, but a black man walking in the street, or standing on a sidewalk, or riding a commuter train or just standing in the hallway of his apartment building, all unarmed, are all dead men at the hands of police.

Well I am a half white half Italian girl, and I just date asians (Korean, Japanese, Chinese ect.) and no other race! People ask me why? I think asians are beautiful, if I can describe my perfect man it would be a asian… I’m just happy with them, in a way a white men never makes me feel.. That’s just what I prefer in life.

PJ you work at one of the outlet stores, and the only contact you have with Asians are the customers that go into those stores correct. Either way, you are blue collar, no? The other night, Lawrence O’Donnell mentioned…the police force didn’t even have a proper incident report written re the shooting death of the young man. Not until pressured form the ACLU, did they finally produce something.
As can be seen by the date on the document, when it was written up. And its very bare-bones with almost no info whatsoever. Nowhere on it are the “who’s”, “what’s”, “why’s”, “where’”, “when’s”, you’d need on the most basic incident report you’d ever learn to write.
They’re going to deny any responsibility in everything, most likely at the advice of their attorneys. And make the prosecution prove every little detail, every step of the way. Evidence? what evidence. Thank God for a few witnesses…and some video tapes. And the independent autopsy report by Dr Baden (so far). Racial biases in that area? oh no….! Who are they kidding?

I thought I would read the views of some normal adults today on MM Blog. Instead I saw a bunch of adults acting like little children in kindergarten on a bad day.
These children are repeating all the negative racist comments they heard from their Parents and let it spew forth without any real thought.
I am embarrassed at the stupid comments I just read on both sides of the fence. What has America become? . . . A place where hatred rules?
What will the next generation, if there is one, be spewing after overhearing their Parents? Probably the same shit.

Stephan #23: Perhaps you should repeat school from the 3th grade on up. That is if you even got that far. Your comment shows the large percentage of brainpower your bigotry and hatred take up as you are completely illiterate.
Normally I would not make an issue out of ones shortcomings, but in your sorry case I thought it only fair to tell you that you are only disproving your own point. Guess you don’t have as much “smartness” as you might think you do.
