Shopping While Black

Good morning.

It seems that every time I listen to the news another young black man is getting killed by white police. And each story is more shocking than the next. I currently have 3 in my queue.

Recently, Michael Dunn, a Florida white man, not a cop, was convicted of first degree murder when he got in an argument with a teen,  Jordan Davis, in 2012, because he felt his rap music was playing too loud. Dunn fired 10 times into an SUV carrying 4 teens, killing Davis.

Following the hearing Davis’s parents, Ron Davis and Lucy McBath told reporters that the verdict was not just their family’s victory alone.

“We are very grateful that justice has been served, justice not only for Jordan, but justice for Trayvon and justice all the nameless, faceless children and people that will never have a voice,” Lucy McBath, Jordan’s mother said after the verdict. “And Ron and I are committed to giving our lives to walking out Jordan’s justice and Jordan’s legacy.”

Justice was served but will the killings stop? Considering this case happened 2 years ago and more killings have taken place, I am always HOPEing, but to date, I’m not convinced.

Here’s the first of three from the Huff Po. The video is disturbing.

New Video Shows John Crawford Fatally Shot By Police In Walmart

John Crawford III

Surveillance video at an Ohio Walmart shows the moment police fired upon and killed a man who was carrying an air rifle sold at the store.

The recently released video appears to show 22-year-old John Crawford III being fired upon just seconds after police encounter him.

The August 5 incident triggered protests from residents and family members demanding the video be released. Crawford is black, and the two officers involved in the fatal shooting are white. Crawford’s family asked for a federal investigation to see if race was a factor.

Instead, a grand jury determined Wednesday that the two officers involved were justified in their actions.

Police have said multiple times that Crawford refused commands to drop the air rifle, according to the Dayton Daily News. The surveillance video, obtained by the Xenia Daily Gazette, appears to show Crawford shot almost immediately after police encounter him.

Special Prosecutor Mark Piepmeier told the Associated Press that Crawford picked up the air rifle, which had been taken out of a box and left on a shelf in the store, and walked around while on his cell phone when officers approached and shot him.

The Crawford family said they were “disgusted” by the grand jury decision to not file charges against the two officers involved in the shooting.

More from the family’s statement:

“The Walmart surveillance video and eyewitnesses prove that the killing of John H. Crawford, lll was not justified and was not reasonable. It is undisputed that John Crawford, lll was in Walmart as a customer and was not posing a threat to anyone in the store, especially the police officers.”

Hours after the grand jury decision, the Department of Justice released a statement saying they were going to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting, according to WCPO.

CORRECTION: A previous headline stated that officers fired on John Crawford after he set his air rifle on the ground. A newly released surveillance tape with audio shows that officers appear to fire seconds after encountering Crawford but not after the perceived weapon is on the ground.

Readers: I have no doubt that race was a factor. What do you have to say? Blog me.

Just another case of murder by cop of a black man. They are the new Nazis. As the Nazis were given the power to kill jews at will so are white cops given the power to kill black men at will.

Let’s be honest. If white cops weren’t getting off so much for killing unarmed black men they would stop. Whites know that when they address this issue. But you never hear that point mentioned when the story is told about another black man being murdered by a racist with a badge.

  2. John Says:

I find it truly disturbing that the Right feels it is OK for whites to troll around Elementary Schools Armed with REAL Automatic Weapons. Yet they then cheer the police officers that gun down an African American Man carrying a Air Gun while talking on the phone because he scared some white people!

  3. Thomas Says:

From whats presented, “welcome to kill an unarmed N***er city”. Shoot first, ask questions later!

  4. Sam Says:

Just saw this on The Last Word. There was not enough time for a cop to tell this young man to put his weapon down and the young man comply before he was gunned down in the aisle at Walmart. They didn’t give him time to react, in those few short seconds, it’s not likely they really even told him to put the gun down.

No audio, so don’t know for sure on that, but there simply wasn’t enough time. He never reacted as if he heard any orders at all. Look at his body language. He never turned his head in their direction. He never had a chance to even try to put the gun down.

  5. Dirk Says:

I don’t know if it police remembering the facts incorrectly, but they are human like everyone else. What was he doing in the store carrying around anything that looked like a rifle anyway? If it is something for purchase it would be packaged and probably not look like someone could start shooting someone else with it.

  6. Cruz Says:

Nothing worse than bad cops. Must be open season on OTWS.

  7. Marcel Says:

It’s a sad yet sobering thought: while black men are busy wearing service uniforms keeping America safe for others, the country they’re protecting is not safe for them to return to. I feel like a fool for serving the few short years I did in the Navy. For what?

Anyone who saw the video or reads the news on this story can CLEARLY see this guy was shot simply because he was described as a black guy waving a gun around inside a store. Which turned out to be a lie. Side note: Whenever cops receive calls about a black guy with a gun, this is what they really hear:

“Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein have just arrived with a truck load of guns and Arabs, ready to wage jihad on Walmart! Get here quick, bring everything you got!”

The level of fear many white people have of black men is beyond astounding. What you really fear is karma: the idea that one day black folks in this country will decide to quit being so loving and forgiving, and seek vengeance on white America for 400 years of downright inhumane treatment.

The irrational fear you have is really just your own guilty conscious, convicting you of being the racist bigots many of you know you are. Anyone ever wonder what happened to the children of those killers we see in those old lynching photos floating around on the internet? Well you’re reading some of their stupid comments right here on this thread.

I pray for justice for this young man. I pray harder that the black folks in the Dayton, OH area remembers this when it’s time to go to the voting poles. I hope his family sues the pants off of Walmart in the meantime.

One last thing: maybe black folks will be safer shopping at Targets from now on. It’s just a thought.

  8. Kenneth Says:

Another example of these murdering pigs killing innocent American citizens-the pigs of today make the Gestapo look good. We need to start killing these thugs with badges. People will only do to you what you allow.

  9. Rebecca Says:

Dirk#5, According to this, the officer shot him in the BACK. You don’t remember that kind of fact incorrectly. Where is your evidence that the pellet gun was originally packaged as opposed to being sold as an open box or demo item?

Typical racist response. Blame the dead black guy even if the evidence doesn’t support the police officers’ story, and ignore the fact that the police officers are LYING about what happened.

  10. Monica Says:

Marcel#7, I’m sorry our country doesn’t value you and all honest, capable, and hard-working citizens the way it should. Thank you for your service to our country, even if you regret it now.

  11. JB Says:

Marcel#7, Ten times more black men killed black men in Chitcago just last month then cops kill. But look at the stats and google unarmed shootings, just this past month 3 unarmed WHITE boys were killed by police guns – in Ottawa Kansas, in Utah, and in S. Carolina . I get it – you’ve been taught you’re always the victim, but you’re not. YOU are just inherently racist and want to see it that way.

  12. Doug Says:

Cops murdering citizens is all I see. Cops that like to kill, look to kill, ………stop resisting, stop resisting, IM NOT IM NOT, stop resisting………..boooom. Cops are murdering people left and right and this is murder, pure and simple. Forever investigation will let him off for the murder but God will show this murderer when the time comes.

As for me, I do not feel for cops murdered in the line of duty anymore. Beat downs, yelling down citizens, lying, murdering with no regard for protecting life. Choke hold citizen to death, leave em cuffed and fail to administer aid to those they just killed, accessories to murder, all those standing around not reviving the man they just killed, accessories after the fact to murder.

Face it, murdering cops are all we see now. Lying, Murdering Criminal Coppers. I support real police, real law, but murdering trigger happy killers I do not.

  13. John T Says:

The media and United States government are owned by Zionist Jews. The capital of America is Israel. The media is used to stir up racial discord, hatred between the races because if Whites and Blacks got along, we would quickly come to the conclusion that these Israelis (Joe Biden, our vice-president is a citizen of Israel!) are using us like common whores and we will be discarded like a used condom when they are through forking us.

We would throw them out. But no, Blacks and Whites would believe feces sandwiches are “good recycled nutrients that are good for you” if the Zionist Jew media said so.

  14. Harold Says:

and rednecks wonder why non whites get so angry after some pig kills a Hispanic or Black! the pigs are BORN LIARS!

  15. Steven Says:

    JohnT#13, What a treat –

Someone even sicker and more deluded than the Black racists who want to lynch this cop just because he’s white.

Go add some tinfoil to your hat.

  16. Gwen Says:

I hear what you are saying….it is shocking and disgusting what some paranoid cops are doing….or should I use the word paramilitary? I too fear a police state coming on in this country, but like you, I too support REAL police, real law and for that reason I DO feel terrible for cops who are killed in the line of duty. We can’t condemn all cops based on the actions of some any more than they can say that the force that they use on some people is justified based on the behavior of others. I don’t know how it’s going to happen, but the police are going to HAVE to start treating people with the respect that they would expect if they were in their shoes and stop trying to get around the laws of search and seizure with the hopes that they are dealing with uninformed, low i.q. people….and people when treated with dignity and respect from the police should respond in kind when stopped for a legitimate reason instead of automatically thinking of the cops as their enemy. I would hate to think of what this country would be like without police protection!

What will turn the tide on this will be if the cops who shoot without provocation or threat are punished the way that any citizen would be for the very same crime and maybe then they will use more common sense and stop fearing us as much as we now fear them.

In this case, the person who called 911 incited the police with his “he’s loading it now. He just pointed it at two kids….he’s waving it around, etc.” A 37 y.o. mother with a heart condition died that day trying to get her children out of the store…so the cops and the caller can live with contributing to the completely avoidable deaths of two people that day.

  17. Marcel Says:

JB#11, And what does Chicago have to do with THIS particular innocent black guy being killed by cops inside a Walmart, totally unprovoked? Love how you guys keep going back to alleged black on black crime, as if that somehow makes this particular atrocity ok.

But why talk about b on b crime if you’re never going to quote the stats and percentages of white on white crime, hispanic on hispanic or asian on asian crime?

As for being a racist: I have no power to disenfranchise white people in any way whatsoever. So how could I be a racist?

  18. Jordan Says:

Gwen#16, Well said on every point.

  19. Anonymous Says:

For some reason, more often than not the white guy, even the murderers, get a chance to give up, instead of just being killed way too fast! The black guy, even when unarmed, end up dead more often, that’s why it’s in the news more.

When were you ever not allowed to vote, live where you want, work where you wanted, marry who you wanted, go where you wanted without any restrictions? When could you be beaten or killed on sight, without anyone caring or getting in trouble for it? Do you even know your American history? Have you ever been fired or not get the job in the first place just because you’re white?

Ever not get a seat at a restaurant, been followed in a store cause they think you’re gonna steal, or not get a loan just because you’re white? You folks don’t understand the history & the decades of extremely poor treatment, you have never experienced it! Then you wanna get mad at us when we protest unfair treatment & you say oh get over it, there is no more slavery & there is a Black President, so in your mind racism is over!

Well it’s true that white folks have gotten killed & beaten by Cops too, but you won’t ever really feel the problem unless many many more young white men start just getting murdered while unarmed & doing nothing wrong!

  20. Zen Lill Says:

Yesterday, Lawrence #12, perhaps you should read part 2, that’s what I said … botched attempt, evidence the maids could find but SS cannot is pure and utter BS, it was a sign.

Lia #15, yes I thought the same thing after I commented, another set back for women bc they needed a patsy and she fit the bill. It was likely part of her ascension plan.

Harry #19, nope … and that’s unfortunate. Between society/religious upbringing most white women are boxes of rocks for brains, maybe they’ll wake up maybe they won’t … keep focusing them on being thin enough and fashionable enough and this n that enough and ity won’t ever change …

Okay, the cop definitely wayyyy over-reacted and acted before there was 3 seconds to think (oh, what’s that?!) …
but … wtf seriously, no special Walmart special policy for carrying a purchased something/air rifle that looks like an assault rifle(?!),
that’s major stupidity on the stores part
(and sorry, his, too, a little bit) …
Even a white woman like me wouldn’t carry that thing around a store free style, no cart or box, for exactly that reason, someone might think I’m going to take down Walmart, this is a royal fuck up beyond measure on all parts.
Though If I were the family I’d sue Walmart for stupidity (I’m sure an attorney could elaborate) and the cops (bc that was just a sick and nuts over-reaction to watch).

    Luv, Zen Lill

The forecast calls for lots of rain this weekend as a storm brews to the east of us.

That’s sweater weather for Guam — a perfect time for cuddling up with your loved ones and eating a steaming bowl of soup.

There are three versions of island favorite go-tos when it’s raining. Be sure to tell us on Facebook what your favorite go-to soups are or tag us on Instagram @pacificdailynews.

    Local favorite
Kaddon mannok, kaddon beef shank, kaddon binådo, kaddon uhang — when it comes to eating local soup, known as kadu, you can check off all the favorites just like you were a Guam version of Bubba from “Forrest Gump.”

Kadu almost always is fairly simple: a flavor hefty protein, like rich beef shank full of fatty marrow paired with a vegetable, like leafy cabbage.

Sometimes it gets kicked up a notch with coconut milk thrown into specialties like kaddon binådu (deer soup) and exotic, yet very local pumpkin tips.

What’s great about kadu now is that you don’t have to check nana’s back kitchen for a bowl. Everywhere from Kings Restaurants and even Denny’s, to smaller local spots, including the longtime diner Linda’s and Your Choice, serves it up.

    Asian
If you’ve caught a chill from the rain, there’s one spicy Thai soup that’s sure to clear your head up.

Tom Yum is a clear soup, tinged red from tangy tomatoes and flaming Thai peppers. While the peppers will warm your taste buds, other aromatics, including kaffir lime, lemon grass and cilantro will wake them up.

You can order Tom Yum in chicken, shrimp and even tofu at most Thai restaurants, including Khaohom Thai entering East Hagåtña and even Pika’s Best Thai favorite Ban Thai in Tumon.

    American
Classic American comfort style soup comes almost exclusively at Winchells on Guam.

Grabbing a scalding cup of creamy clam chowder with a side of saltines is almost a tradition for anyone who’s feeling chilly and a little under the weather.

But Winchell’s also serves other popular soups including a tasty beef vegetable and chicken noodle soup.

You can still find other versions of clam chowder at other restaurants on island including Capricciosa and even Beachin’ Shrimp in Paradise Island in Tumon.

The Turks had beter make up their minds to protect Kobane. It is a town on their border and if they allow ISIS to take it over they will eventually invade Turkey.

The Kurds are naturally wary of the Turks as they have been at war with them for decades, but a common enemy like ISIS can make you allies if not friends.

Obama is wise to wait and force common sense between these two antagonists. The Turks must put boots on the ground to defend Kobane.
