Obamacare: Open Enrollment Has Started Again!

Good afternoon!

Yes, what can I say…I am running late today. If you haven’t already signed up for Obamacare, now is the time. The repubs of course want to repeal it, even though so many Americans want it and are on it. I’m looking forward to this 51st time…or is it 52? I’ve lost count. However, now that the repubs are in control, politics are getting even more interesting.

Nancy Pelosi: Thanks for the reminder.

The write from Think Progress:

The Progress Report Banner

Open Enrollment Starts Tomorrow!

It’s that time of the year again! Open enrollment starts tomorrow and consumers can once again shop for health care coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Using the call center, in-person assistance, or the improved HealthCare.gov site, consumers are also able to renew or make changes to existing plans. As open enrollment begins, here are a few key facts on how the Affordable Care Act is doing:

  • 7.1 million people enrolled in the marketplace: During open enrollment last year, more than 7 million people purchased insurance through the exchange.
  • The number of uninsured Americans fell by 25 percent this year: An estimated 10.3 million fewer people are uninsured this year, reducing the amount of Americans without health coverage by 25 percent.
  • On average, tax credits reduced the cost of premiums by 76 percent: Last year, the average person who received financial assistance for coverage paid a monthly premium of $82, which is 76 percent less than the average price before credits.
  • More insurers are offering plans for 201525 percent more health insurers are expected to offer plans this year, creating competition that drives down prices for consumers.
ACA_2

With an increasing amount of data to prove the Affordable Care Act is working,a few million more people are expected to enroll in the exchange this year. Here are a few important things to know going into open enrollment:

  • Open enrollment dates: Open enrollment starts on November 15th and lasts until February 15th. For coverage that starts January 1st, the deadline to enroll is December 15th.
  • People with existing plans should shop around: People who already have insurance will need to renew their plans during open enrollment by December 15. But with the addition of more insurers in the marketplace, those with current plans should shop around on HealthCare.gov to make sure their current plan is still the best fit for them. Customers who don’t renew their coverage will likely be automatically enrolled again, but they could miss out on savings.
  • Financial assistance is available: An estimated 8.7 million people could qualify for tax credits to help pay for their insurance. Last year, 85 percentof people who enrolled in insurance on the marketplace qualified for federal subsidies.
ACA_1

BOTTOM LINE: The Affordable Care Act is working — it has largely succeeded in bringing affordable, quality healthcare to millions while significantly shrinking the number of uninsured Americans. During open enrollment, consumers can shop for a health coverage plan that works for them, and financial assistance is available. The millions more expected to enroll this year, as well as the millions who have already taken advantage of the law, stand to benefit greatly from this open enrollment period. But it only lasts for three months, and if you want coverage that starts January 1, the deadline is December 15th. So get shopping!

Readers: Don’t be lazy…get on it.

Ron: Simply ridiculous. This is a knock not only against black people (again!) but women (again!). If Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges (D) was a man, or the man she was posing with was a white man, people would say that it was a sign of solidarity “with  the community” not “…with the gangs.” And really, I doubt it would even be brought up at all.

This is what happens when you’re “living black,” and if you’re a woman standing up in support of those “living black.” The racists are not going to like it and will do whatever they please to put you down and make you look bad. Really?

Really. And worth a re-post:

From the Huff Po.

Jon Stewart Adds ‘Pointing’ To List Of ‘Innocent Things Black People Do That Look Suspicious

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges was recently accused of making “gang signs” when she posed for a photo with a get-out-the-vote volunteer, who was African-American.

The sign? The two simply pointed at each other.

“That’s a gang sign?” Jon Stewart asked on “The Daily Show” on Wednesday night. “All this time, I’ve been the lead-in to a notorious gang member.”

He then showed a photo of Stephen Colbert of “The Colbert Report” pointing at Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

But in Hodges’ case, the simple act of pointing led to a report on local news claiming she was flashing the “gang sign” and, according to one law enforcement official, “showing solidarity with the gangs.”

The station had been tipped off about the photo by local police shortly after Hodges publicly called on the department to root out bad officers.

That led Stewart to conclude that the issue wasn’t about the mayor using her index finger to point, which has since been dubbed #pointergate. It was about the police pointing a different finger at the mayor.

Yes… the middle one.

Stewart concluded that pointing has to be added to the already long list of “innocent things black people do that look suspicious.”

Comments? Thoughts? Rants? Anything…blog me.

Carla: Words I would expect to hear from a hot mama like you. :) Those two things will most definitely keep you busy. Hugs to your mother for embracing change. Awesome.

Jorge: No doubt! Happy for all of you that life is good.

Hmm…not sure how I feel about your comment. Delighted that you like my blog, of course! Not so great that it reminds you daily of the hatred that some harbor just because I have a different skin tone. I would like for that to change, and yes as everyone says, it will, when the demographics change, it still doesn’t feel good that racism is so blatant that I have no problem finding writes to support it. Today is no exception.

On a upwardly note, I like your attitude. And thanks for the sweet compliments.

Liu: The bigots can’t see past their racism to truly appreciate what the rest of the world sees.

Jay, Helen: You’ve got my backing.

And now it is time for me to sigh off..I mean sign off, and your turn. You know what to do.

Peace out.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

I’ve been trying all day. I hope this gets in. The fact that the press supported the police shows that it is a united front to keep those thugs with badges abusing OTWs.

  2. Irene Says:

Michelle you comment to Liu was needed. Most of the bigots in my family see only that Obama is black. They are the ones benefiting from being able to stay on mom’s insurance policy because of Obama care but they refuse to admit they are benefitting.

  3. Carla Says:

Michelle, you may have just started something here in Columbia. Two of my mother’s girlfriends are going gray. You and your blog are wonderful.

Oh, I clicked on Jorge’s link and got Word press. Is that an error?

  4. Henry Says:

Howie, you could definitely make some money with your talent. My friends and I talk about your stories all the time.

  5. 11/7^ Says:

Vivv you are probably wondering what exactly you have.

Vivv think of it as the being who travels back in time to impregnate the human who births his father. Since his father not only visits op07 and fathers that being, he also later visits 9i^3 and fathers Azza.

Azza today on earth is a being who traveled back in time to become an earthling for the Emperor to prevent the attack by the 5th Dimensional yKls that will occur sometime in earth’s future. She does not have her memory because it is her earth skills and her alien being that attracts the associations she makes with other aliens which will provide the assistance the Emperor will need to defeat the yKls.

Her complicated line of anomaly possibilities is because she was before she is but most of her “is was not. The Azza who is your Commander can not land on earth because they can not both exist at the same time on the same planet with the circumference of earth’s because the Emperor implanted a “fail-safe” in the human shell of the Azza who traveled into the past. That device will detonate if the two Azza’s are within that circumference on a planet with a lead molten core and a gravity between 9.689 m/s2 and 9.932 m/s2.

He also anticipated that one of the Azza’s might discover this information and attempt to use a factor of centripetal force and or parallel space to negate earth’s force of gravity or to avoid earth’s gravity field. He has employed a number of fail-safes to prevent that. We are not appraised of those fail-safes.

So whatever his crimes, you must release him. If you don’t his death will prevent his birth which will erase both Azzas’. If you keep him imprisoned, you could prevent the time alliance in which he accomplices his time travel. Since it is unknown when he accomplishes his time travel, you can not be certain that you won’t interfere with his journey in time. You decide if you can call our bluff.

If Azza is not born, the Emperor will not defeat the yKls. If the Emperor does not defeat the yKls, there could be a repeat of the jKls disaster. As you know our science tells us the result was multiple collisions of galaxies until the jKls and everyone else were destroyed. Now we have a threat from yKls. What will you do?

  6. Brenda Says:

My family is so benefiting from Obama care but you wouldn’t know it from their redneck reactions.

  7. Owen Says:

Howie, what are they talking about in #5?

  8. Paula Says:

It seems that Officer Darren Wilson has been caught on video violating another man’s constitutional rights.

    https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=798703646854891

  9. Marie Says:

Paula#8, Yes Darren Wilson needs to be indicted, unless Murder is a victimless crime! If a police officer who gets paid to do a job can commit Murder and get away with it, we’ll surely a person who does it for free should!!

  10. Tamara Says:

Facts read them and then can we all agree to move past race: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cases_of_police_brutality_in_the_United_States and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rampage_killers

  11. Carl Says:

I wished I had a dollar for every white person with a differing view of the blacks and white liberals that has been called a racist on this board. I could fly down to florida this week. I am sure there have been a few bigots (on both sides) along the way.

Maybe I have missed it, but I have yet to hear anyone of these people admit the black community has a serious problem and needing to fix their own problems. Neither have they acknowledged just a little bit that brown could have caused his own demise. Let the facts come out and we shall see.

  12. Tamara Says:

Carl#11, White communities do to…However the story line usually ends by the neighbors, “we were unaware that he had so many bodies in the basement” “We thought she was a regular everyday citizen” “Oh we didn’t know that he was eating people” “Oh my he was a great man even though they found all those bodies under his house, he helped so many people”

And now I ask you what the hell does the color makeup of the community have to do with police brutality and the way the media splays one set of crimes over another?

  13. James Says:

Why didn’t he wait for the help he said he called for , but no one heard ? They were real close by they said . Instead he chased the guy he had already shot and ended up shooting him down like a dog in broad daylight , six times , twice in the head ?

You can defend him all you want , that was the actions of an enraged man , the same man who was reprimanded at a couple of other departments and quit both jobs . He had determined after he shot him the first time that Brown was going to die . If he hadn’t , he would have waited for help , but he did not do that .

  14. Michelle Moquin's "A day in the life of…" » Blog Archive » Obama Takes Executive Action On Immigration Says:

[…] Brenda: Exactly. Well…we’ll see how they like it when the repubs try and take it away, and […]

  15. Molly Says:

Typical whiteboy play. they are just going to force the soverign Nation to risk the dangers of having a leaking pipe running over their land.

  16. Anne Says:

If the Keystone pipeline was being used to move crude oil that would be one thing. The KXL is moving tar sands. In order for that to move through the pipelines they must add chemicals that cannot be cleaned up. Crude oil is natural and organic…clean up is at least possible. If the KXL is breached over one of our water sources there is no way to clean up the toxic chemicals from the aquifers. Do the research!

  17. Native American Says:

Crazy how ignorant people are about the Keystone XL pipeline. First there is no safe way to transport oil. Second there are other alternatives to oil, such as solar, wind, etc. Also if anyone believes the pipeline will benefit any state the pipeline goes through is blind. The oil is to be transported to other countries not the U.S. To have oil piped over aquifers is just not smart.

Especially over the biggest aquifer in the midwest. Contamination of the ogallala aquifer would not only effect us in south dakota but also every other state that uses it for drinking water, farming, etc. But hey I guess the white man does not value the planet as the native americans do. You only believe in money which in the end is meaningless.

Our water is the single most important resource on our planet. That is the biggest problem the white man has today. Is that they value the all mighty dollar of our planet. Which is sad, because years from now your grandchildren will be ashamed of you and you only have yourselves to blame for that.
