Bush: The Incredible Shrinking Man
Posted by Michelle Moquin on January 12th, 2009
When I look at the photos of Bush’s last press conference I see a little man. I don’t know how tall he is but his presence is small. I never used to get it when people would tell me that my presence was much larger than my height. Of course, I got what they ‘meant’ but I never got the ‘feeling’ in myself. I have always been small…have always felt small…hence I love high heels, and wear them all of the time - Definitely a perk for being la petite!
But I got off on a tangent…back to Bush…So I see a little man…a little wanna be dictator. Yes he did say that. Not in his final days, but a few months ago I was watching an interview of him in the White House and that is what he said he aspired to be. Maybe not in those exact words but believe me there was no question what he had said. My jaw dropped. AND…it was evident he saw nothing wrong with it! A dictator – does he not know the true definition of the word? Let me post it just in case any of you are thinking, ‘What’s the big deal?’
dictator
noun
1 a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained power by force.
• a person who tells people what to do in an autocratic way or who determines behavior in a particular sphere.
Okay…so now do you get my drift? Bush…a little man. So I just googled his height and he is only 5’11 – not exactly short, but compared to his brother he is. And he is insecure about it. Can’t you tell by the way he hunches and scrunches? In fact the stats show he has shrunk and is shrinking. And by the year 2580 Bush will be zero feet tall. Hmm…the incredible shrinking Bush – Not shrinking fast enough in my mind.
Not sure where this article was leading, but I am sure, it is done. Gotta run.
Hi Tamara: How fun! I would love to perform!
See ya tomorrow..

I remember that interview. We both looked at eachother in awe of what we thought we just heard come out of his mouth…a daily experience…
His last press conference (I hope!!) was held and he thought one of the worst things he did in eight years was to hang a banner “Mission Accomplished” on the aircraft carrier that he held his speech about “winning” the was in Iraq…Keith Olberman can say how many days it has been since he has declared “mission accomplished” for the ongoing war in Iraq.
What Bush ailes from is commonly referred to as a Napoleon complex.

POST-MENOPAUSE WEIGHT GAIN = HIGHER BREAST CANCER RISK
Some women shrug off their post-menopausal weight gain as inevitable but a study from Harvard Medical School and School of Public Health adds to the growing evidence that women who avoid weight gain, including after menopause, have a lower risk of breast cancer. In fact, according to the study, women can substantially decrease their risk by losing weight after menopause.
The study data was taken from the ongoing Nurses’ Health Study and researchers assessed weight changes in more than 80,000 women who were followed for up to 26 years. The researchers found that women who had gained a hefty 55 pounds (25 kg) in the years since age 18 had the sharpest increased risk — 45% — compared with women whose weight remained about the same. Surprisingly, the study determined that a weight gain of 4.4 pounds (2 kg) or more since the age of 18 was linked to 15% of breast cancers. Conversely, women who lost 22 pounds after menopause lowered risk. The lowest risk of all was enjoyed by women who lost weight after menopause and who had never been on hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
FAT, HORMONES AND CANCER RISK
A. Heather Eliassen, ScD, an associate epidemiologist and instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, was the study’s lead author. She explained that previous studies have established the association of breast cancer risk and higher levels of sex steroid hormones (estrogen and androgens) and their metabolites. The reason: Adipose (fat) tissue produces estrogens including in women after menopause. The message of this study, she says, is for women to understand that any long-lasting weight gain, including small amounts — whether before or after menopause — increases estrogens, which in turn increases breast cancer risk after menopause.
Dr. Eliassen adds that there was nothing magical about losing weight in the post-menopause years — the study simply showed that it is never too late. She reminds pre-menopausal women that it is harder to lose later, so it makes sense to achieve and maintain a normal weight now.

Q: Do alarm company signs really deter burglars?
A: These signs and stickers actually help thieves choose targets. Thieves assume that houses with these signs have things worth stealing. A determined thief may deliberately trigger an alarm and then wait nearby to see how long it takes the police to respond. Then the thief can return sometime later, with a good idea of how long it might take the police to get there.
The worst signs identify the burglar-alarm company — a thief usually can get a schematic of the type of system and figure out how to bypass the alarm. Generic signs, which let thieves know that the house is monitored but don’t name a company are better.
Better than stickers or alarms: Closed-circuit monitors at entrances and around the house. No thief wants to be caught on camera — even wearing a mask. Be aware that nonfunctioning cameras can deter thieves, too.

Hey Mischa,
Sorry we played a bit of vmail tag on Saturday, one call was while I was driving go carts (and with or without a kid) it is sooo fun and of course I took that time to play race car driver : ) and laughed and smiled the entire time, I highly recommend it!
I loved your article on the congo, bums me out that I’m so attached to my iPhone and laptop but maybe squeaking loudly to manufacturer’s about where and how they get resources is the position to take. I did not know this info so thank you for taking the time and effort to research that and let us all know. You’re my heroine, mentor (if you want to) and commander : ) I would like to be like you if I weren’t so busy being like me.
I recently watched many short clips of Bush speeches (all on youtube) and he scared me, why didn’t I see it more clearly before, he appeared drunk in quite a few (or at least, he was speaking that way) – anyway – I have often commented that you are so much ‘bigger’ than your real life presence. I have a few petite female pals like that. I have the height and the presence and a tall male friend and I were talking about how you have to defuse the ‘intimidation’ factor when you’re naturally tall and have ‘presence’ (yes there are tall people who have no presence). Anyway, you could be 5′ or 10′ either way I think you are huge (in the best way possible)!
Anonz, are you repaired and back in action again? How about an update, babe?
Ciao, oh and it is gorgie in So Cal today, tanning weather lately, in mid-Jan, you gotta love that, Zen Lill
PS Edgy Dreamer Male/female myth busting (some male comments via e that are just precious, hahaha) is funny, but Nadia, please respond to Azir, I already told him I am not up for conversion of any kind :

I have been rereading your blog, I just can not find a comment from Azir. If you can tell me where to look I will respond. Or you could reprint it on Michelle’s blog if she doesn’t mind.

I usually agree with you. As a matter of fact, my wife is often disposed to accusing me of having a crush on you because I agree with you so vociferously when are on a couples outing and discussing your latest bon mot.
But this time I think you are wrong. Bush does not have the brains to contemplate being a dictator. This is a many who was surprise to have won the Presidency in the first place.
Of all the men who have run for the Presidency, this was one of very few of them who ran just for the bragging rights. He was totally surprised to find that the American people ( us whites) were boneheaded enough to elect him.
Notice the deer-in-the-headlights look when he was told about 9/11. He was as shocked to find that America had put his dumb ass into the White House. We often argue about Anonz as a couple in our tete-a-tete groups and as husband and wife (as you would expect, my wife dolts on him) but his assessment of Bush was spot on.

The arab men in Gaza are so intent on influencing the world about their plight. Let it me known that although we arab women of Gaza weep for our children, we weep not for these men. What does it matter what the outcome will be for the men. For us it will still be a life of slavery.
Our prayers are to Mr. Obama. May he free America from the influence of arab oil. If his leadership can show the white men who lead the countries of europe the way, perhaps the victimized islamic women of the world will have a chance at life as a human being.
Thank you for keeping this before the world. I have and I will continue to support you here in the Gaza Strip.

This may not be up to date. I monitor you site with test entries to see if I can get in. This article is about the Congo. My brother was there a few weeks ago. He said that what you wrote was so very true. He had been trying to tell us about his experiences there.
He has been saying that the women(actually little girls too) are being raped so often that the women walk around looking like zoombies. I hope your column starts something that can help them.
I will not mention his name because your blog is heavily monitored by the Islamic counsel that determines what is a bad influence for Islamic women. You are considered anti Islamic. Arab women are forbidden from reading or discussing your comments or blog.

I couldn’t believe I got in. This is more of what I wanted to say. Bush is despised here in South America too. What may be lost on the rest of the world is that his dictatorship of greed has influenced South America from Mexico to Argentina. Our countries have been corrupted by rich white men who have destroyed the labor unions and forced the people to live in poverty so deep as to make harvesting drugs the only attractive means of making a living.
This has given the sick men running the drug cartels such money and power as to have made any attempt by the people of their countries to gain control over its leadership impossible. We the peoples of South America are under siege. The greedy white men of the USA have encouraged, financed, and protected the cruelest fiends that could be imagined.
Women here too are raped, forced into prostitution, bartered and sold as one would a car or dog. I am in the camp of Madaline. Something needs to be done about men. I feel a ground swell coming. If you let her loose. Men the world over are going to be surprised at how many of us will gladly turn them over to her.
They think that the condescending way they deal with our complaints is satisfactory to maintain their position of “I’m not like that.” I have a friend that reads Zen Lill and she says men who read it feel that they can use the information that Ms Lill gives to fool women.
Zen Lill is the best when it comes to writing columns that try to balance the battle of the sexes. Yet men, will try to find a way to use it to their advantage. How pathetic of them. I try to get my husband to read her, but he says that women like you and Zen Lill are angry women who want men to kiss their asses.
I wonder if he feels that way when he has his tongue way up my ass for his own pleasure(his comments about you and ZL shows that if is certainly not for mine).Perhaps I will be a little less generous with the soap next time I prepare myself for one of his nights of debauchery.
Men! Please ZL keep up the good work. Michelle I can not thank you enough for your steadfast support of women’s causes around the world, but if I may would you do a column on South America. I include every country south of the USA as South America.

My mother is black and my father is a jew. So I’m me. My sisters and brothers have found the side they wish to be. I am content to be me. But I did come across this.
“SANTA Claus was good to everybody this year. He gave the black folks Obama and he gave the white folks O.J.” – Paul Mooney at Carolines on Broadway.
White america still thinks that they can disregard the feelings of the rest of the citizens of this country with impunity. Their day is coming.

Little-Known Dangers of Head Injury
Alex B. Valadka, MD
University of Texas
Each year, more than one-third of Americans over age 65 fall. Although hip fracture is a well-known consequence, few people are aware of the seriousness of a blow to the head.
Especially in older adults, a head injury — whether it occurs during a fall, a car accident or a sports activity — can trigger potentially deadly bleeding inside the skull. That’s because the brain shrinks as we age, increasing tension on the bridging veins, which run from the brain’s surface to its outer lining (dura). As a result, the bridging veins become more vulnerable to rupture. The situation is often worsened by the use of blood thinners, which are commonly prescribed to help prevent heart attack and stroke. An estimated 50,000 Americans die each year as a result of head injuries.
Caution: It can be difficult to determine the seriousness of a head injury from outward signs alone. For example, bleeding inside the skull may not cause symptoms until days, or even weeks, after the head injury occurred.
Red flags: Increasing sleepiness, a severe headache that keeps getting worse, confusion, difficulty walking, impaired memory, slurred speech, blurred vision and/or vomiting.
Important: People who have suffered a minor head injury don’t necessarily have to see a doctor — but they should get to an emergency room immediately if any of the above symptoms occur… even if it’s days after the injury.
Main types of head injuries…
SKULL FRACTURES
A skull fracture is a break in the skeleton of the head (skull) and typically is caused by a fall or a car accident. A skull fracture is among the most dramatic-looking head injuries because it may be accompanied by copious external bleeding.
In most cases, however, a skull fracture isn’t very serious as long as there isn’t an accompanying brain injury and/or bleeding. In fact, a skull fracture may protect the brain. When the skull fractures during an accident, it absorbs part of the blow, and less of the trauma reaches the brain itself.
Physical signs of a skull fracture include bruises around the eyes (raccoon’s eyes) or behind the ears, or the leaking of clear cerebrospinal fluid from the nose or ears.
Treatment: Many skull fractures heal on their own. Hospitalization may be required for overnight observation. Patients also may be given imaging tests, such as a computed tomography (CT) scan, to check for bleeding inside the skull.
CONCUSSION
A concussion is a head injury that does not cause visible physical damage and is often characterized by headache, confusion and/or amnesia. The brain damage that occurs — which is thought to involve disruptions in blood flow or nerve impulses, or temporary damage to axons (nerve fibers) — may not show up on CT scans or other imaging tests. Doctors rely on a medical history and the concussion symptoms listed above to make a diagnosis.
Most concussions are caused by a fall, car accident or athletic injury. Patients usually recover completely within a few hours — or, at most, a few days.
Treatment: Anyone with concussion symptoms following a blow to the head should get to an emergency room, especially if there is any loss of consciousness, confusion or memory loss.
The patient probably will be given a CT scan to check for bleeding in the skull or brain. If the test is normal — and most are — the patient will be advised to avoid strenuous physical activity, such as heavy lifting or climbing stairs, for a few days to aid healing of the brain. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is prescribed for pain.
CONTUSIONS/LACERATIONS
Contusions (bruises) and lacerations (tears) of brain tissue are potentially more serious than a concussion. Both contusions and lacerations may be caused by a sudden blow to the head, which often occurs during a fall, physical assault or when the head moves very rapidly, causing the brain to hit the inside of the skull, such as often occurs in a car accident.
Symptoms may include severe headaches, dizziness, vomiting, irritability, agitation and/or confusion.
Minor contusions/lacerations usually clear up on their own within a few days. Warning: Patients who experience severe, persistent headache, decreased alertness or consciousness, weakness in a limb, or one pupil larger than the other may have sustained a serious brain injury and should get immediate attention.
Treatment: Emergency surgery will probably be required if the CT or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan shows significant bleeding/bruising, and the patient is also exhibiting the neurological symptoms described above. The surgeon will make an incision in the skull over the area of the injury. He/she will remove damaged brain tissue, along with any blood/fluids that may be present, to reduce brain swelling and pressure inside the skull.
INTRACRANIAL HEMATOMAS
An intracranial hematoma occurs when blood accumulates inside the brain, or in the area between the brain and the skull, due to an injury.
With a hematoma, the brain may be injured by the pressure caused by a blood accumulation (clot). This pressure can cause neurological problems, such as seizures, visual problems and/or weakness in a limb. Additional symptoms of an intracranial hematoma, including headache, loss of consciousness and one dilated pupil, are similar to those caused by other head injuries.
Treatment: Small hematomas, which can be detected by MRI or CT scans, often clear up on their own without subsequent treatment. Patients with larger hematomas, however, may require emergency surgery to stop bleeding and remove blood that could increase pressure on the brain.
