Are you killing your iphone?

Good morning!

Because I’m one who holds onto my phones till they are practically extinct, (Believe it or not, out of respect for the women in Congo, I held onto my flip phone, yes you heard that right, until 2 years ago) I’d still be on it now if it weren’t for my business.

Anyways, I like to find ways to make my phone last as long as possible. Here’s a few tips if you’re like moi. Even if you like to upgrade your phone every year or two, I think you could benefit from this too.

Here’s the write from Thrill List:

Screen Shot 2016-06-23 at 9.56.52 PM

Much like old humans, old iPhones have a tough time holding their juice — and part of the reason why is how you charge them. “Charging my phone is a breeze,” you say. “What could possibly go wrong?” you say. As it turns out, some of our seemingly harmless habits are doing slow, silent, deadly damage to those precious lithium-ion batteries.

Screen Shot 2016-06-23 at 10.14.06 PM

You’re charging to 100%

If your palms start sweating when your battery drops below 90%, you need to chill. Maintaining a full charge is not the most efficient way to keep your phone battery strong. In fact, experts suggest letting your phone coast through the day between 30 and 80 percent full. That’s where it’s most comfortable, and will run most efficiently. So stop juicing it overnight, and instead go for shorter and more frequent bursts throughout the day.

You’re letting your phone die

Lithium ion batteries become volatile when they drop down to low power, so you should avoid getting that pesky “low battery” warning too often. Every full discharge wears down your battery ever so slightly. That being said, Apple and other experts suggest you let it fully run out of juice every one to two months to “calibrate” the battery gauge.

Screen Shot 2016-06-23 at 10.02.39 PM

You’re overheating your battery

Okay, this isn’t specifically a charging issue. But it’s still very important. You’ve probably noticed that your phone is annoyingly sluggish after its been sitting out in the sun. That’s because iPhone batteries really, really hate extreme temperatures, and have to work extra hard in high heat or cold. According to Apple, the “comfort zone” for iPhones (as well as iPads, iPods, and Apple Watches) is between 32 and 95 degrees. Bottom line: your phone is basically a needy little computer baby that needs to be bundled up and cooled off on the regular.

You’re using your wireless charger too much

Your mophie backup battery case is a godsend when you’re out & about and need some extra juice to get home. But both your battery and the case itself emit heat during charging, which can do long term damage your device. To avoid overheating, try a portable power source that doesn’t attach to your phone.

You’re leaving your case on while you charge

While we’re on the subject, if your phone feels too hot when it’s plugged in, it’s possible your fancy schmancy case might be trapping in the heat that’s produced while charging. So do your phone a favor and take it off.

Screen Shot 2016-06-23 at 10.03.41 PM

You’re storing your backup phone without a charge

If you’re hanging onto your old phone as a backup for when you inevitably drop your new 6S in the toilet, make sure you stash it in a cool place, roughly half-charged. According to Apple, it you leave the battery completely depleted it will fall into what’s known as a “deep discharge state,” which apart from sounding like a nightmarish medical issue, will render it less capable of holding a charge in the future. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period, it may lose some capacity as well.

You’re using the wrong charger

Your Apple-issued charger is designed to cut power when the battery hits 100%, but those cheapo unauthorized third-party USB cords are not, and may do some damage by excessively juicing the battery. Plus, ya know, they could kill you.

I kept my flip for a long time too, Michelle. When I switched I got a Samsung Note 3. I now have the Note 5.

    Thanks for the tip.

  2. Peter/Guam Says:

    Hafa adai.

Just to let you know out there Guam law again here maximum speed limit is 35 miles per hour. You don’t see 45 mile per hour signs posted anywhere. You should stay within that speed limit.

Slow down. You’re killing the innocent.

  3. Howard Says:

Talk about biased reporting. CNN’s Newest Paid Commentator Is Legally Prohibited From Criticizing Donald Trump.

CNN hires commentators with a variety political viewpoints and affiliations. Some are Democratic and Republican operatives. Some have previously worked with candidates running for President or other offices.

In that sense, the announcement that Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, would be joining CNN as a paid contributor is par for the course. Lewandowski was fired from the Trump campaign on Monday.

But there is one aspect of Lewandowski’s hiring that is highly unusual. Lewandowski is not only a Trump loyalist but legally prohibited from criticizing Trump, his family, or any of his businesses.

We know for sure that Lewandowski signed a non-disclosure agreement, prohibiting him from talking about the work he did with Trump.

So why bother to interview him or have him interview others.

  5. Move On member Says:

The Republican National Convention is setting up shop in Cleveland this summer and, with Donald Trump at the top of the ticket, it’ll be a showcase of hate and vitriol.

Trump has insulted, attacked, and incited violence against women, Latinos, Muslims, and more. And he’s the face of the Republican Party, whose leaders are standing by him in a show of party loyalty over any concern for basic dignity.

Instead of playing into Trump’s hands with protests outside the convention, we’ve got a plan to turn Trump’s moment in the spotlight into a way for us to show that regular Ohioans are united against hate. We’re running a statewide door-knocking campaign to create neighbor-to-neighbor conversations that can win votes and change this election from the bottom up.

And after the convention, we’ll take this campaign national to cities and towns across the country—to empower everyone to connect with their neighbors with a message that we stand united against hate.

  6. ^9tsu Says:

Let us know if you can be reached for possible assistance. Will be in range again on the 27th.

  7. Lars Says:

How incredible is it that America would select a clown to be the possible president of their country! Your joke came to Scotland to tell us how great it was that we had elected to leave the EU.

We were stunned. Scotland voted 62% in favor of staying to 38% in favor of leaving. We recognize that the whites in your country are so insanely racist that you often vote against your best interest in order to maintain control over your minorities. But selecting this idiot to represent your country is absolutely insane.

In doing so you not only jeopardize your own international safety, you endanger the world order and its safety.

  8. Greg Says:

I completely agree with you Lars#7. Not all whites in America are that insane. I can’t imagine why the republican party can accept this idiot who takes a bow as markets crash all around us.

The King of Debt can’t wait to profit from destroying our economy next.

  9. Brain Says:

The king of debt? I’d say the king of debt is Obama who has rung up almost $10 trillion of debt in 7 years.

  10. Lucy Says:

A story on CBS this morning says his daughter Ivanke has been charged for copying another designers shoe style.
    Like father like daughter!!
The apple didn’t fall from the tree.

Ivanka Trump’s shoe company just copies and steals other people’s brands. http://www.thefashionlaw.com/home/aquazurra-calls-out-ivanka-trump-for-copying

Aquazzura’s founder took to the brand’s Instagram account this past week to call out Ivanka Trump for copying. The presidential candidate’s spawn maintains a New York-based clothing and accessories collection, which released a shoe that was just a bit too close for comfort to Aquazzura’s Wild Thing fringe sandal for the brand’s creative director, Edgardo Osorio.

According to the brand’s recent Instagram post, which features a side-by-side photo of the Ivanka Trump shoe and Aquazzura’s popular Wild Thing sandal: “One of the most disturbing things in the fashion industry is when someone blatantly steals your copyright design and doesn’t care.” Osorio continues on: to write: “You should know better. Shame on you Ivanka Trump. Imitation is

NOT the most sincere form of flattery. #ItaliansDoItBetter.” And this isn’t the first time. In January, Aquazzura commented on one of Trump’s posts featuring the same shoe style, saying, “You should be embarrassed for copying young designers! Shame on you!!!!”

  11. Carrie Says:

Brian#9, The King of Debt is Donald’s own description of himself. He profits by pushing his debt onto other people by declaring bankruptcies and refusing to pay contractors.

  12. Lisa Says:

Lucy#10, Who knew Ivanka was doing knock offs? She should have changed something at least. Not everybody can afford two thousand dollar shoes.

But like her father, she just brazenly steals and lies about it.

  13. Calvin Says:

Carrie#11, Duh! Trump has hundreds of companies — in his latest financial statement over 500 — of which only 6 have gone bankrupt — five of which were in the highly volatile gaming industry. From my perspective as a businessman he has done quite well — creating, running and sustaining a business is a tough — and something tells me it is something you yourself have never done. So I have to hand out one more big — DUH!

  14. Merriweather Says:

I’ll make this simple for you – the economy is like a bouncing ball. Obama came into office when the ball had just hit the ground & started it’s upward bounce. There was nowhere to go but up, but the upward bounce has been exceedingly slow. 🎾

Crooked Hillary’ is running for a continuation of Obama’s economy, the worst economic recovery in post WW II history.💡

Obama’s record on Real GDP – “assuming 2.67% RGDP growth for 2016, Obama will leave office having produced an average of 1.55% growth. This would place his presidency fourth from the bottom of the list of 39*, above only those of Herbert Hoover (-5.65%), Andrew Johnson (-0.70%) and Theodore Roosevelt (1.41%)” 👎🏻
“No matter what happens in 2016, Obama’s record on economic growth will be considerably worse than that of the much-maligned George W. Bush. Bush 43 delivered RGDP growth averaging 2.10%, with two years (2004 and 2005) above 3.0%.” 💰

  15. Peter Says:

Calvin#13, What on earth are you talking about? Trump has had epochal failures and bankruptcies over the years. Dozens. His famed Taj Majal in Atlantic City underwent five bankruptcies on its own.

  16. Gwen Says:

Lying trump licenses his name to company’s. Not the same as owning them outright. It’s what the Kardashians do as well with their perfumes and clothing lines.

They don’t own that stuff. Trump doesn’t own his stuff either. DUH!

  17. Gwen Says:

That was my answer to Duh, Calvin#13.

  18. Adrian Says:

Peter#15, It’s apparant that Cadron is not a good businessman.

  19. Thomas Says:

Calvin#13, He lends his name for a fee. Do you really think the idiot could run a lemonade stand?

  20. Adrian Says:

Brian#9, Gee. That’s funny. The leading economists in the country believe the economy is greatly improved under Obama. Should we believe them? Or you?? Hmmmm.

  21. Steve Says:

Merriweather#14, Merriweather, you are correct sir. The Michelle follower does not understand economics, that is quite clear.

  22. Fred Says:

Merriweather#14, Perhaps you prefer the economy under Bush? the last Republican president? Those last 2 years were HUUUUGGGE.

  23. Adrian Says:

Merriweather and Steve don’t like actual truth. We get it.

  24. Calvin Says:

Merriweather, And let’s not forget that Obama’s weak record on the economy must also include the $10 trillion dollars of debt he has placed on the American public’s shoulder. Taking that into consideration — we are all worse off than when he took office — well aside from his minions and supporters who have gotten rich further widening the gulf between the rich and poor. He is certainly the worse President we have had in my lifetime. Yet there are still millions who drink from his kool-aid trough. Go figure. “No one ever lost a buck under-estimating the intelligence of the American public”.

  25. Dean Says:

    Adrian#23,

The US most likely entered into a recession at the end of last quarter based on five generally overlooked data-points:

    The plunging price of copper.

The downward trending Baltic Dry Index. (Measures the demand to transport dry commodities overseas.)

The narrowing spread between 2 and 10-year Treasury notes. (At the tightest level since November 2007.)

    Declining industrial production.

Falling non-farm payroll. (In decline since October of last year.)

  26. Ron Says:

Calvin#24, The kool-aid drinkers are not in the Obama camp. Wasn’t it Romney who said… let the auto industry crash and burn? More failed trickle-down is not what we need.

  27. Adrian Says:

Calvin#24, Hmm., Cadron. Most Americans think Obama is doing a good job. So “we” are not all worse than before he took office.

And most voters voted for him TWICE. Hmm. Seems that you are in the minority. And a “businessperson”?? Don’t make me laugh.

  28. Kevin Says:

Merriweather: Just when I thought I heard it all from lying sacks of shit republicans, something so totally stupid comes along I simply have no response too it.

  29. Wanda Says:

Merriweather, I see you graduated from copying and pasting. Next time, try introducing your own words, instead of parroting what’s on Breitbart.

Of course, you fox viewers can’t really do anything else but parrot what you hear. It would take a non racist working brain to do otherwise.

  30. Jill Says:

    Merriweather,

So bush just crushed the ball and slithered away.

He almost succeeded at turning the whole country into Kansas.

  31. Merriweather Says:

Wanda#29, Why would anyone re-type all those factual statistics when it is much easier to copy & paste, & then put those stats in quotation marks ???

  32. Jordon Says:

Brian#9, Proof and source. Fact check says FALSE !!!!!
    Enough lies Drumpf!!!

  33. Goose Says:

Brian#9, King of debt..nah…King of Bankruptcy BWAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAA!

  34. Suzanne Says:

Brian#9, Actually, trump called himself the “king of debt”

  35. Freda Says:

Brian#9, As usual you republican don’t pay any attention to the facts. Just as your hero, trump, didn’t check the facts before he put his foot in his mouth when he told Scotland they were taking their country back with their vote to leave the EU when they had voted 62% for staying to 38% for leaving, didn’t check your facts to discover it was trump himself that himself the “king of debt.”

Birds of a feather do indeed flock together. To idiots telling each other how smart they are. The both of you should try paying attention sometime.

  36. Michael Says:

Brian#9, trump said himself that he was the king of debt, those were his own words.

  37. Wanda Says:

Brian#9, Trump went so far as to call himself the King of Debt. In fact, with his proposed tax plan, we’re going to be in debt almost $20 trillion more.

  38. Paul Says:

Brian#9, Trump calld himself the King of Debt. You are a stupid person, aren’t you, Brian? Admit it!

  39. Charles Says:

    Brian,

So, if you look at it empirically, Obama has “created” more debt in his one term than Bush did in 2 terms. However, there is a lot more involved in the equation. Bush’s policies might have added significantly to the debt while Obama was in office. Let’s take a look and try to clear up this muddle.

While Bush’s rate of rise was slower, he nearly doubled the US debt ( 86% ) compared to Obama ( 49% ).
    \
The total federal debt in relation to the economy is reaching historically high levels — approaching levels not seen since World War II. But it can also be seen that the rise started long before Obama took office.

In fact, the upward trend began with Ronald Reagan’s fiscal 1982 budget, declined somewhat from fiscal 1997 through 2001, and resumed the upward climb with George W. Bush’s first budget in fiscal 2002 (which started Oct. 1, 2001).

The cost of Bush’s policies amount to more than five times the cost of Obama’s policies. The Bush tax cuts plus the costly Iraq and Afghanistan wars cost about 2.5 trillion dollars in debt.

Also, the Bush administration overspending on defense cost another 1.2 trillion, which spiraled the debt out control. Let’s now take a look at Obama’s policies.

Much of his spending has focused on the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, but even more has come from a combination of a two-year extension of the Bush tax cuts and other mandatory spending.

However, Obama’s increased focus on deficit reduction has paid off significantly in the long run. Automatic spending cuts have reduced the deficit by $503 billion, and cuts to defense and Health Care have amounted to a total of about $400 bilion.

The cost of Bush’s policies was $5.1 trillion, and the cost of Obama’s policies was a mere $983 billion.

  40. Adrian Says:

Trump has no idea what this means for Britain, absolutely none! To hear him even try to talk about it is hilarious!

  41. Dean Says:

    Adrian#40, Copy that!
