‘Do Unto Others…’

Thomas: I don’t know why I even continue to bother writing you and others like you. No matter what I say you will still be the racist person that you are. You are the sociopath that anonz describes. But as always, I can’t keep my mouth shut when it comes to people and expressing myself.
You are a white man Thomas, yes? A white man who has the best life one could have on this planet. The most privileged of all walking life. How inhuman you are to even question why I devote so much time on ‘what happens to a few niggers’. It is the same reason why I am so devoted to what happens to the environment and the animals. I will answer you because it is part of my devotion to help those that are not as fortunate as myself, and because of their skin color are discriminated daily by people such as yourself. I will answer because you are probably one of those who when he gets pissy at someone, he kicks his dog just because. Yes, actions of a sociopath.
Do you not know that statistically a high percentage of the black men in jail shouldn’t be there. Is that fair? No. Did you know that many of them do not get a decent trail and are convicted without sound evidence? Probably not. Or are you aware of how many of them are blackmailed for a crime that they didn’t do but a white man did? I suppose you don’t. Why do I ask these questions? Because the whites want to keep this country white and the cops want to keep their crime solve ratings high so that they look good in the eyes of the public. They want to keep the white in power and the blacks in jail. Not to mention the rest of the OTW’s.
Do you know how much faster the heart rate beats of a black person’s heart compared to a white man’s heart when he is stopped by an officer? I bet you don’t, and you never will. And more importantly you just don’t care. Well I do. People must support and stick up for others when others are being unjust and trying to keep them down.
And yes, America is in a free fall. – what are you going to do about it beside trying to keep those that have always been in a free fall, continue to fall? Your anger is misdirected and racist. You are uninformed and excuse me if I may say so, stupid too. It is people like you, who got us in this mess. Let me enlighten you. It was the white man that put us in this position not the black man. So when you have one finger pointing out, look and see how many fingers are pointing back at you. Why bother repeating what has already been well said. Read Anonz’s comment yesterday. It is directed at people such as yourself.
If I look at the world globally, we are all experiencing the hard times but maybe in the US we really need to. I don’t like to use the term ‘wake-up call’ because it is so overused. But, it works. Maybe we need to feel on a deeper level so that we can understand what it is like to struggle on a daily basis like so many others on this planet. We have been blessed and now we are trying to climb out of this mess. But think of those that have been struggling and crawling for their entire lives. Think of those who are not fortunate to live in America, the land of opportunity….those that struggle just to survive life. Just to make it through another day with food in their empty stomachs and hopefully empty of unwanted dick in-between their legs. I’m speaking of rape here in case you didn’t figure that out.
I don’t know how I’m going to turn this sickening behavior around but I will go to my grave in support of those that are treated unfairly. I will always give my opinion and as harshly as it is delivered to me, my answer will match it. I have always believed in an eye for an eye; that is just how passionate I am. It is the same as the phrase…’Do unto others….’ Unfortunately, for those cruel many, it means that they will get exactly what they have dished out…so be careful of what you do unto others. I know it sounds cruel and barbaric – I was once told by a close family member that I was, but I can’t help it. Cruel actions deserve cruel reactions. One should think about what one is doing before one sets out to harm another being. A cruel person thinks nothing of brutally harming another, but when that harm is inflicted upon himself, he is the first begging for mercy. How quickly he forgets that he harmed so cruelly. How quickly he forgets…. I have no compassion for such cowardly men.
Hmm…Well I thought I was done a few paragraphs ago but obviously I had more to say.
Anonz: More power to you. If I were in your position, I would be doing the same. “If anyone’s going to have all the power…”
10:03:
I got so wrapped up earlier that I forgot to mention and talk about Obama’s speech last night, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So at the very least, I will agree with our president and say that yes we are in an ‘ideological gridlock’. Write your senators peeps – let get out of this. And furthermore in regards to his remark, ‘Old habits are hard to break.’…To me, withhout limiting his meaning and refering to my article today, I read this to mean ‘racism and greed are hard to beat’.
Oh and one more thing, what the hell was Michael Steel talking about when he said the stimulus package doesn’t create jobs, it creates work. ‘A job is not a job unless it’s created by the public sector.’ Ugh…okay. I’d love to hear your two on this one. Got to run.

Depression is a condition fraught with misunderstanding. In fact, for many years, it was viewed as a shameful personal weakness or embarrassing character flaw. And as a result, those suffering with depression often hid their pain rather than search for relief.
This is especially tragic when you consider the breadth of depression’s grasp on our population. In the United States, approximately 20-25% of women and 12% of men will experience serious depression at least once in their lifetimes. Click here to learn more about the symptoms of depression.
The Big Pharma Bonanza
Things began to change several decades ago when researchers discovered that a person’s mood was largely affected by the concentrations of certain neurotransmitters in the brain—especially serotonin and dopamine.
Pharmaceutical companies wasted no time developing drugs to fool with brain chemistry, eventually coming up with the class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) to alter the balance of these two chemicals in the brain and improve mood. Among these are Prozac, Celexa, Zoloft, Luvox, and Paxil.
Since then, big pharma has aggressively marketed these SSRIs. Their marketing efforts have focused both on expanding the definition of depression and spreading the belief that depression is a biochemical-based problem that can be solved chemically.
To say their efforts were successful would be an understatement (their efforts to sell drugs, that is, not their efforts to relieve depression). During this period, it would appear that we have experienced a full-blown epidemic of depression and mental illness. In fact, in 2007 docs wrote more than 150 million prescriptions for antidepressants.
The Good News and the Bad
While bringing depression out of the closet has been a positive outcome of the antidepressant drug push by pharmaceutical companies, there has also been a terrible cost. Millions of people are taking powerful prescription drugs on a long-term basis.
If you have access to the Internet, I would highly recommend reading a 2005 report of researcher Janet Currie. It’s an eye-opener, to say the least. It’s one of the very best reports I’ve seen detailing how the pharmaceutical industry literally created a market for SSRI drugs, while at the same time covering up the fact that they are generally ineffective, costly, and loaded with dangerous side effects as well as addictive properties.
To see the complete document, The Marketization of Depression: The Prescribing of SSRI Antidepressants to Women, visit http://www.whp-apsf.ca/pdf/SSRIs.pdf. (If you don’t have Internet access, ask your local librarian to download and print the article for you.)
An All-Natural Alternative
A natural and safe alternative to SSRI drugs is the compound inositol—considered to be a part of the vitamin B complex, but not truly a vitamin.
In the body, inositol’s primary use is in the formation of cell membranes. But, it’s also involved in the systems that deliver messages from hormones and neurotransmitters to individual cells, and this is how deficiencies of inositol can be related to neurological problems like depression.
Numerous studies have shown that inositol can be equally as effective as the SSRI drugs in the treatment of conditions like depression, bulimia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder—without any of the dangerous side effects.
Most of the studies have utilized 12 grams a day for depression and 18 grams a day for problems like panic and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Personally, I’ve seen excellent results in these same type cases using doses in the range of 3 to 6 grams daily.
Inositol is considered very safe. In a few cases, individuals experience temporary loose stools at the higher doses—and large doses may cause uterine contractions, so they probably shouldn’t be taken in late pregnancy.
My Dosage Recommendations
If you decide to try inositol, I suggest starting with 3 grams mixed with either juice or water and taken each morning. You can also just put the powder in your mouth. It doesn’t matter if you take inositol with or without food. From there, you can gradually increase the dose by an additional 3 grams every 4 or 5 days until either you reach 12 to 18 grams daily or you begin to experience beneficial effects.
In most studies individuals began to see positive results within 4 to 6 weeks. I’ve found that many people actually see a difference in a matter of days, but it’s worth continuing for at least a couple of months if you don’t get a response that quickly.
Inositol can be purchased in capsules or in a more economical bulk powder. For example, 8 ounces of inositol sells for about $11 at http://www.allstarhealth.com. And at a dose of ¼ teaspoon (600 mg) that’s 378 servings, making inositol inexpensive in addition to being safe and effective.
Until next time,
Dr. David Williams
P.S. Another proven, drug-free approach for helping lift your mood is phototherapy, which uses light waves to stimulate the nervous system and help improve mood and energy levels. If you’re interested, consider the HappyLite Mini Ultra. It’s a small, high-quality desktop lamp that’s simple to use, delivers powerful full-spectrum light, and lasts over 10,000 hours.

I am a visitor here to your country. My sister who invited me here said that all Americans are not bigots, and that they did not all hate Islam. I told her that I was very sure that was true because we read your column. She was not aware of it. So I got you a reader in West from the Middle East.
It pays to be as fair as you are. I did tell her that I never got in with my comments but that that was not your fault. I have been here in America for two days. I love it. My sister showed me this article http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/wayoflife/02/09/muslims.america/index.html.
It speaks to the fairness and the heart of America. I now understand why she works so hard to become an American citizen.

right on Moq! thank you for this…some people just need to be bitch slapped!
February 10th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Hi Mischa, I’m with Dominique, some of your racist commenters do need a bitch slapping, and you sure got that done, right on! Maybe they could use a day or two of living on the streets as someone other than their white male selves also, see how they like it and how they’re ‘done unto’ then they’d stop all their ‘white is right’ bs and get with the ‘do unto others’ program which includes everyone white/black/otw/women/& aliens : )
Anonz, hey babe, whatever the usage of the monies you amass, believe me, it will appear to be altruistic compared to what your greedy and disgusting counterparts (in financial matters only i.e. other bills) are doing with the power their money provides.
It pleases me to know that you’d indulge my pampered ‘peel my grapes’ fantasy on the cheap : ) I’ll look forward to that in a parellell universe bc this one has you booked for awhile : ( and listen, sweet pea, if my Countrywide and National City loans are on your radar for buy up on the cheap (yes, 2 loans, don’t ask…there was no gun to my head but after making my protestations and my sane case, I signed ze papers, no one to blame but me, myself and I) 4% interest based on the value 8 yrs ago (original purchase date) works. I don’t need a free ride, just a fair one that I can pull off on my own.
I’ll be writing a check all while ruining my credit to pay pennies on the dollar to make the 2nd go away and hiring a ‘back end’ specialist to fix that bad credit I’m forced to create, nice terminology, bc whoever has to do this feels like they’ve been bent over and you get to pay for the privilege also, f**k, all this bc I wanted the ‘Zen’ way, hahaha, no wonder ‘parting’ atty’s suggest otherwise, I just thought defusing the financial aspect would make for a better and less bitter man, hmmmm, can you say Polly-friggin-anna?? Or is it ‘idiot’?
on a lighter note…someone came out of retirement, yep…Julia Roberts, I just saw the trailer yesterday, the part where she’s whispering in the man’s ear, well she does have my profile, but my voice is smoother and knowing me, if I were in that close, he’d have gotten a nip on the earlobe afterwards, meowwww. a friend texted me to make a wager on the daily ‘you know who you look like’ factor, although yesterday, strangely enough someone told me I looked like JFK Jr’s wife, um, presumably before their plane went down, I’ve heard that before, that’s all about the ponytail and face/body profile.
just curious after all this time…and you would look like – whom – any tid-bit at all you’d like to disclose at this time, sweet pea? I know your buff, your getting your ass whipped into shape over there…but you know it’s getting tiring filling in my favorite male features to composite you, fill me in – please? what brand of handsome are you? hahaha…
Ok, work beckons and I must answer, so Caio for now and I’m so glad you wrote in, I appreciate your realistic pragamatism (even when I’d rather not hear it) and while all the anonymous’s had valid points, you know, if they can’t bother to differentiate themselves to make for easy communication – well then the ZL theory is, they’re the kind of people who just like to hear themselves talk, nothing two way about that and I’ve had enough ‘one way’ bs to last this lifetime.
Luv, your sweet Zen Lilly

I received this article form a cousin of mine. She said that she had just finished reading what you wrote. She said that she wanted you to know that she didn’t hate you or any woman in the Middle East. She said that it was the men who use Islam to terrorize women and force them to be mere cattle.
How do you or other women who worship under Islam respond to being treated this way by men using your religion to justify it?

Saudi judge sentences pregnant gang-rape victim to 100 lashes for committing adultery
By LIZ HAZELTON
Last updated at 8:31 PM on 10th February 2009
A Saudi judge has ordered a woman should be jailed for a year and receive 100 lashes after she was gang-raped, it was claimed last night.
The 23-year-old woman, who became pregnant after her ordeal, was reportedly assaulted after accepting a lift from a man.
He took her to a house to the east of the city of Jeddah where she was attacked by him and four of his friends throughout the night.
A judge in the Saudi city of Jeddah, pictured, ruled that the woman was guilty of adultery and should be jailed for a year
She later discovered she was pregnant and made a desperate attempt to get an abortion at the King Fahd Hospital for Armed Forces.
According to the Saudi Gazette, she eventually ‘confessed’ to having ‘forced intercourse’ with her attackers and was brought before a judge at the District Court in Jeddah.
He ruled she had committed adultery – despite not even being married – and handed down a year’s prison sentence, which she will serve in a prison just outside the city.
She is still pregnant and will be flogged once she has had the child.
The Saudi Arabian legal system practices a strict form of medieval law. Women have very few rights and are not even allowed to drive.
They are also banned from going out in public in the company of men other than male relatives.

There are no more words left…
February 10th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
I live in Saudi Arabia. Here men can force their daughters to marry at any age. Recently an 8 year old girl was forced to marry a 47 year old man to settle a family debt. The judge ruled that it was legal, but asked the husband to sign a paper that he would not have sex with his new bride until she reached puberty(10).
These are sick pedophiles who use religion to satisfy their disgusting sexual needs. I am afraid like the majority of women here to say anything. We are but animals that men can legally use for their sexual gratification.
Please send Madaline to kill all these bastards. Madaline had it right, every living male older than 5 should be taken and deposited on some planet that could use the filth.

THE AYURVEDIC PATH TO NUTRITION
Ayurvedic medicine, one of the world’s oldest systems of medicine, is becoming newly fashionable in the Western world. It’s no surprise given its literal meaning in Sanskrit — “the science of life.” To many, it seems exotic and difficult to understand — but, says John Douillard, DC, PhD, who for many years studied Ayurvedic medicine in India, it needn’t be so. Dr. Douillard, now an Ayurvedic provider and owner of LifeSpa, in Boulder, Colorado (www.lifespa.com), says that Ayurvedic teachings for optimal health are based on a few central and basic concepts.
The key principle of this ancient tradition is totally modern, pointing to stress as the major cause of disease. The Ayurvedic practice focuses on making the body resilient in order to respond calmly to stress. Food and diet are key in fueling the body’s resilience, with varying dietary needs based on seasonal and daily cycles and individual “type.”
EATING FOR THE SEASONS
In Ayurveda, the most important dietary rule is to eat with the seasons — emphasizing foods “in season.” Next comes the unique requirements of your body type. (More on how to identify your body type in just a moment.) In spring, the world delivers leafy greens, sprouts and fresh young vegetables that easily fall into the low-calorie, low-fat food recommended to provide the spring cleaning our bodies need to rebalance after the heavier foods of winter. Eat light, dry, warm foods as well as spicy, bitter and astringent ones… minimize sweet, salty and sour foods. Summer demands high energy and the summer bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables gives us that. Dr. Douillard says in summer focus on foods that are cool, sweet, bitter or astringent… minimize spicy, salty or sour foods that cause heat. In winter, food should represent the late fall harvest with root vegetables, nuts and seeds… also important is eating plenty of protein and fats to insulate against the cold. Foods such as stews and soups that are warm, heavy and oily are advised, as are sweet, sour and salty foods, which are the tastes associated with winter foods.
EAT REAL MEALS
How and when you eat is also important. Dr. Douillard does not believe in grazing, but rather in eating three solid meals a day with no snacking in between. The reasoning for this Ayurvedic recommendation: The body will not use its fat as fuel — nor rid itself of the toxins in the fat — if you feed it every few hours. Ayurvedic practitioners also believe that the major meal should be at lunchtime when your digestion is most receptive. Eat all meals in a relaxed atmosphere without intrusion, be it the TV, newspaper or brooding on your worries of the day. Concentrate on the food — enjoy it and the company. This can make a significant difference to many Americans with our on-the-run lifestyle.
THE THREE TYPES
In Ayurveda, people are typed as vata, kapha and pitta. You may be strongly one type or, as is often the case, lean toward one with characteristics of another. Here is a brief description of the types:
Vata — although known as “winter types,” vata people dislike the cold. They have light, thin builds, move quickly, and tend toward dry skin, irregular hunger, constipation and digestion problems. Vatas are quick mentally but are often worried and anxious and may have trouble sleeping.
Kapha — “spring” people, are solid with heavier builds, have great strength and endurance and are slow, careful movers. They sleep well, have lots of thick hair and are tranquil and steady. Although they grasp new information slowly, they have excellent memories.
Pitta — “summer” people, have moderate builds, move and learn moderately quickly and have steady appetites. Hot weather makes them uncomfortable and they prefer cold food and drinks. Many have reddish hair and complexions and they may have trouble with irritability and anger, especially when hungry. They are enterprising and clever.
Knowing your type is valuable because it is the guide to what kind of food best fuels your body. Vatas, for example, should mostly avoid a raw diet because they are already cold and dry. With their highly flexible bodies, vatas favor yoga-type exercise, but they need to stabilize themselves with weight training as well. To give them structure, vatas need to eat regular meals, even though they seldom feel like it. Kaphas, because their systems tend to be sluggish, must be careful about foods that are sweet, sour or salty since these can lead to water retention. Kaphas gain weight easily and lose it slowly… if out of balance, normally muscular kaphas become heavy and lethargic. Kapha types require vigorous exercise, such as cardio or aerobic activities such as running, cycling or swimming. Pittas, on the other hand, metabolize rapidly and should eat on schedule. However pittas overheat easily and do best to avoid spicy foods and in summer, hot foods. When out of balance, pittas develop inflammation, ulcers, heartburn, excessive sweating and other heat-related conditions. Pitta types enjoy winter sports like skiing and skating, which help them stay cool. Pittas should balance individual activities with more team sports or less competitive activities like hiking and yoga to offset their over-zealous nature.
Grocery lists of the foods harvested in each of the three seasons, winter, summer and spring, can be downloaded from the articles section of Dr. Douillard’s Web site at http://www.lifespa.com.
BUILDING IMMUNITY
Interestingly, how you breathe makes an important contribution to your health too, says Dr. Douillard. We take about 28,000 breaths a day and each of them is an opportunity to open up the lower lobes of the lungs through what Dr. Douillard calls “whole lung breathing.” Shallow breathing reaches only the upper lungs and triggers the stress receptors. Whole lung breathing reaches the lower lobes and activates the calming receptors that reside there. It stimulates the lymphatic system so waste products can be efficiently carried from the body. Finally, breathing into the lower lobes allows the rib cage to be elastic and open.
Here is how to whole lung breathe: Breathe deeply through your nose only (the best way to activate the lower lung receptors) and inhale, filling up the lower lobes of the lungs, followed by the middle lobes and then the upper lobes. Then, squeeze out all the air, as best you can, as you exhale through the nose. This style of nasal breathing will ensure full respiratory capacity with each breath and is always recommended, even while doing moderate to vigorous exercise.
It’s helpful to the lymph system to drink hot water, says Dr. Douillard. Boil plain water — no added juice or even lemon slices that trigger digestion — and sip every 10 minutes throughout the day. Do this for two weeks. You may really like it… and if so, keep going. There is no reason to give up your hot water regimen.
An Ayurvedic diet is an easy-to-follow path that can help you find the way to feel your best, based on your unique needs. Of course, there is much more to Ayurvedic medicine and nutrition than what is described here, but this brief introduction should help you get started on the natural path it teaches. Detailed information about the seasons, the types and nutrition is in Dr. Douillard’s book, The 3-Season Diet: Eat the Way Nature Intended. There are numerous other books as well that will take you much further in your study of an old system that fits remarkably well into life today.

Thank you Michelle for speaking so eloquently for our cause. This is one black woman who owes you thanks for so many articles you have written.
Your support of women is a blessing to us women. In my office we often mention your topic of the day. But when you write about the plight of the black man it is never mentioned. I wonder if my white girlfriends know that this hurts me?

Now that the President has his package the pundits will be out decrying how they know how to better spent the federal job money.
I hope the President will hold to the posting of the use of the money. And when fraud or waste is discovered i hope the dems do not let the repugs feed the media with sound bites that slander the whole program
