Unemployment Is Going Down Daily

OBAMA NEEDS YOU!
“Every day, our economy gets sicker – and the time for a remedy that puts Americans back to work, jump-starts our economy and invests in lasting growth is now.”
– President Barack Obama
So…what is happening with the Stimulus Bill? Sen Lindsey Graham said on Fox News that Obama has been AWOL!…“We’re making this up as we go and it is a waste of money. It is a broken process, and the president, as far as I’m concerned, has been AWOL on providing leadership on something as important as this.”
Wha’at?! Obama AWOL on providing leadership? You’ve got to be kidding. If anyone was AWOL it was Bush for the past 8 years. So if Obama is AWOL you must mean AWOL to mean that he is getting the Republicans and the Democrats together, having cocktail parties to meet and discuss, making personal phonecalls and one-on-one visits. Okay fine…Obama’s going AWOL.
It went back and forth all day yesterday and still it is not resolved. I watched as Obama gave a frustrated laugh during a speech about the Stimulus Bill…‘Seriously the stimulous Bill is about spending - that is the point of it’. (Not his exact words, but something like that.) Those that oppose are shuffling their feet….Yeah…those that oppose, don’t like having the reigns tightened…they don’t like having to be accountable, they don’t like tranparency. So they hem and haw over the expense of money that is meant to be spent, as our economy gets worse and worse everyday.
On a side note…and speaking of no strings attached….did you watch the Superbowl last Sunday? I just read that despite a near collapse that required $45 billion in federal taxpayer bailout funds…you know the money that was given freely, with no strings attached during the Bush badmin?…Bank of America sponsored a five-day carnival like affair to a tune of over $10 million. Yep, guess who bought those executives not only tickets to the game but entry into lavish parties, martinis and music, and a luxury suite? You ‘n me babe.
Do you want to know where your hard earned money is going? Do you want accountability and tranparency? Do you want new jobs created and money back into our economy? I mentioned yesterday to contact your senators. Tell them that you support this bill. There is a need for speed peeps. Our unemploment is at 7.2% and this morning it is expected to be at 8%. Do something.

Connie: Right on with the health tips. I agree. This is some great information. I was not sure if readers were reading and liking them – I sure do. Ha! love the ‘lower lips’ comments too.
Luther: “Do unto others…” If all followed that simple saying…how the world would change. I would like to hear more from you.
Orgun: It saddens me to read your comment. Unfortunately men have lead you to feel that way; your true self is not shining these days. I wish for your circumstances to change so that you can shine again. Peace girl.
Michelle & Dana: Well Obama isn’t over my bed but he is in my heart and thoughts big time. Great question. I would love to hear from more girls out there if their husbands have been acting differently now that there’s a new man in Washington.
Peace out…
Gratefully your blog host,

HI Mischa, I’m sure those reported unemployment numbers are low, just my guess so people don’t freak completely (and they damn well should be). And unfortunately, the last 8 with repugs in office has left us in the position of needing that sexy sounding hit – a ‘stimulus package’ yes…
Under normal conditions, a recession could/would and should run its course and in that course new jobs, etc are created anew. Bc these f**ks drained the national treasury and bled it all dry we have people NOW who are hurting and have been for awhile not to mention those that are lined up for a serious hurting (foreclosure, job loss, retirement plans worth nothing) in summer 09′ when ARM’s will be up on a glut of homes, and the banks are doing…nothing (except running superbowl parties)…now, that’s a crying shame.
I’m so ready to live off the grid in another country I can’t even tell you bc to watch what’s happening here is heart-wrenching really. My friends tell me to get going starting that new business bc now’s the time, again under normal conditions they’d be right, not that sure of that this time, this is like none other, not even 1929.
When I read repug’s responses to Obama’s plans, any plans, I laugh bitterly and think ‘you people F’d things up so bad and you want to criticize now? Step up, man up and reach across and help! Now!’ – in fact, they ought to be offering a reach around ;o which I am sure most of those dudes are very good at, hahaha…
Connie, thanks for the understanding words, and commenters of similar sentiment, thank you.
anonymous, that addressed Michelle T, grow the F**K up, ‘nigger loving slut’ my my…I wouldn’t put a name to that ridiculous comment either and Michelle T, right on for opening up your attitude, all I can tell you is I love to dance and black men manage a fine groove, and I ought to know, it was a joke years ago that I was (am) a big tall black man magnet, hahaha, uh-huh, well then – let’s dance :

HOW TO RUN INJURY FREE
Many people I know love to run, but hate how much it hurts afterward. I recently heard about a unique approach that offers a solution. Called ChiRunning, it blends the internal power of Tai Chi with the aerobic benefits of running. ChiRunning is a technique that emphasizes proper form, core strength and relaxation, enabling you to run efficiently, safely and injury free, moving with grace and fluidity.
TAI CHI + RUNNING = CHIRUNNING
The ChiRunning technique was developed by running coach and ultramarathoner Danny Dreyer as a solution to his own vexing knee pain, which flared up during runs and left him feeling achy and exhausted afterward. He incorporated the practice of Tai Chi into his running and was thrilled to discover that he not only could run without pain, but that his runs left him feeling renewed and energized.
I’ve written about Tai Chi before, of course, but let’s just review how it can pertain to running. It’s an ancient Chinese martial arts practice that uses the power of your mind to harness chi (“energy”) from the body’s center (the core muscle group, which includes lower back and abdominal muscles). According to the principles of Tai Chi, any type of movement, such as running or walking, can draw its strength from the core muscles, not from the legs and arms. Tai Chi helps the flow of chi by teaching the practitioner to maintain a body that is well-aligned, yet relaxed.
GRAVITY PROPELS YOU
Focusing on core muscles for ChiRunning lets runners overcome the two major forces that typically work against them — the force of gravity and the force of the road coming at them. It’s a natural way to run, Dreyer said. Leaning forward reduces, and in fact nearly eliminates, the braking motion of your feet as they hit the ground.
Dreyer said to imagine that your spine is strong — the source of great power — and your arms and legs are loose and light. By maintaining strong posture and relaxing the rest of your body while you run, more energy can flow from your core throughout your body. Since you aren’t using the legs for propulsion, ChiRunning can reduce or eliminate most of the overuse injuries associated with running, including shin splints, hamstring injury, and hip and knee problems, and it reduces pounding so there are no impact (joint) injuries, said Dreyer. Moreover, because your body is not overworked or pounded from the run, recovery time is much quicker, leaving you feeling more energized after your run.
THE CHIRUNNING TECHNIQUE
The first step to ChiRunning is learning how to hold a tall, elongated posture while you run, allowing your structural alignment to support your body weight, not your legs. Stabilize your posture by “leveling” your pelvis (consciously lift up the front) while you run. To know how this feels, stand up tall and place your hand on your lower abdomen with your thumb in your belly button and your fingers resting across your lower abdomen. Now, shorten the distance between your thumb and fingers by pulling up on your pubic bone.
Once you have this posture working for you, fall slightly forward, keeping your posture line straight. Picture your spine as a straight arrow that begins at your ankles and ends at the top of your head.
Holding both the posture and slight forward tilt, begin to run. Bend your knees. Lean forward at the ankles, rather than at the waist, to avoid putting unwanted pressure on your back and knees. Keep your hips, shoulders and ankles in a straight line.
Let gravity work with momentum to propel you. Proper ChiRunning form involves a balancing act, explained Dreyer. You’re not leaning too far forward or too far back — just allow gravity to pull you along. With each step, as your heels lift off of the ground, your legs will swing to the rear and your feet will plant underneath you, rather than in front of you.
Relax your arms, legs and everything else. Use your core muscles to maintain your structure and hold your torso straight. Envision your core muscles bringing the rest of your body, including your joints, muscles, arms and legs, along for the ride. Always keep your shoulders low and relaxed.
Quiet your mind. Concentrate on leaning forward, using your core to move you, bringing your focus back to this whenever you begin to strain or your thoughts to wander. This helps maintain proper form.
Breathe. Even, relaxed breathing will give you power and help you stay relaxed throughout your run.
CHIWALKING WORKS TOO
You can also try ChiWalking, by the way. The technique for this integrates Tai Chi and the proper biomechanics of walking — good posture, loose joints, engaging core muscles and relaxing the arms and legs. When you try ChiWalking, “slow it down, be mindful and relaxed, and try to perfect your stride,” said Dreyer. He likens ChiRunning and ChiWalking to other mindful practices such as yoga and Pilates, in which the focus is on technique, not on short-term goals such as running faster, going farther or losing weight. “The pleasant side effect may be that you will get in shape and lose unwanted weight,” said Dreyer.

Let me suggest, though, that regulating banks and other lenders can only be considered a first step. There is a broader issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible; and that is the basic paradigm. What we have been working with for the last hundred years is parasitic and predatory the origins of which are rooted in the early days of the industrial revolution. The real sadness is that it has lasted this long and done this much damage.
President Obama has already put out a call to the people of the entire world to come together and solve this crisis. All of us, as citizens of the world must step up to the plate. I am presently putting together a basic framework for what I think is needed to rebuild the world we live in such that it can be made to work for all of us in the future. I’ll get back to you on that.

The problem IS and has been the GOP policies of the last 25 + years. We all know the story by now.
Reagan’s deregulation of banks ( and others ) trickle down ( vodoo ) economics, huge tax cuts that benefitted the wealthy and one we could not afford- Reagan’s HUGE tax cut lowered the top tax rate of 80 % to about 30 %. As usual, the middle class got a relative few ‘crumbs ‘ The BUsh decided the wealthy ; needed’ even MORE tax cuts- Greed knows no bounds. Do we see a pattern here ? Giving the middle class a tax cut makes much more sense, since we will likely spend it on goods and services. We are in an emergency situation. We need to act quickly but carefully. Every week brings more and more job losses. SOme of the ideas I’ve read are good ones- such as-let the worst banks fail, lets only help the stronger banks that have a chance of remaining in business. Help homeowners who are losing their homes. If we don’t – that would mean more unsold homes on the market, worsening our housing crisis. The Repubs are now ‘ worried ‘about spending- where were they the last 8 years when they gave Bush all the tens of billions he asked for ? The GOP- has to STOP the phony partisan politics.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Madoff got away with his huge scheme because lack of controls made it posible ! It will likely take years for us rebuild our economy. and begin to rid ourselves of the GOP policies of Reagan / Bush / Bush SR. Reagan’s massive deregulation & trickle down economics- plus the fact that he lowered the top tax rate from 80 % to about
30 % put us on the road to disaster. Reagan’s huge tax cuts should be eliminated. How much wealth was ‘ redistributed ‘ to fat cats – while the middle class got the ‘ crumbs ‘ The GOP answer to every thing is more & more tax cuts for the very wealthy. ENOUGH ! Voters have become a lot smarter. Even- Alan Greenspan ( Former Sec of Treasury ) recently ‘ apoligized ‘ for ‘ pushing ‘ deregulation for so many years. He said ” I was wrong ” At least he had the balls to admit it.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Reagan / Bush / Bush SR got away with murder. WE can never let any politician do that ever again ! YEs some Dems fell asleep at the switch as well. They need to be voted out of office asap. Sen Dodd / Barney Frank of the banking commitees. We HAVE to remain vigilant. No more uninformed voting. Forget talk show people- they all do what they do for one reason- to make HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars. They are NOT ON OUR SIDE. We have to think for ourselves now.

But really it is about disinformation getting spread like sticky jam all over the truth by the media via the Republicans who have grabbed the microphone. Dan Rather who was interviewed on Hardball tonight made a very good point: Obama has to get surrogates out there who can masterfully explain what is included in the stimulus package and why it is included. Obama cannot be everywhere at once, and he cannot debate every congressional naysayer who is featured on every newscast. Now the GOP is using its favorite tool: the poll, which is reflecting that the public is losing faith already. These polls are a lobbiest’s dream, garbage in, garbage out. Obama has to get up to speed on the nonsense of the media, the polls and Washington.
This nation has to act boldly and quickly and these partisan actors are just spinning the interests of the interests, as usual. Obama has to figure out how not to be undermined. He has to get up to speed.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Obama is ‘ running’ as fast as he can. He has also put limits on lobbyists- made govt more open- frozen wages of his top staff- he capped Bank CEO’s salaries @ 500 K ( who get govt funds )
The man is really out there trying to do his best. Call all your Repub reps who are fighting him- and tell them to STOP PLAYING PARTISAN POLITICS. Obama has been willing to compromise.SO whats the delay ?

What about personal credit card rates? They have been climbing higher and higher over the years. They are not at a “historical low”, instead, as more and more people are struggling to make ends meet, losing jobs, having to turn to their credit cards, the rates on these are going higher and higher. So, even though people may keep up with the minumum payments, it goes no where as the rates are so high.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Two private parties who agree to contract by law have to agree to the terms in a loan transaction in the contract. Do you agree to the interest rate a credit card company charges you? Did you have any say in what they charge you? You capitalists are so scared of anything that could infringe on your sacred private property rights. You need to recognize that even in a capitalist state, the public has an economic interest and deserves a voice in economic decisions. Political democracy isn’t enough; there must be economic democracy too. Companies and individuals who formerly were able to pay their debts do not present a bigger risk justifiying higher rates–the loss of credit due to distrust and the rising cost of borrowing are the real problem.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
The whole idea of having the Chinese produce the goods and Americans buy them was stupid. One moment’s worth of thought would reveal that if you take away American’s jobs, they won’t be able to buy the products; not without rising debt. The time comes when there is no more credit and the system tanks. All predicable, stupid and un-economic..
February 6th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Everyone I know (including myself), is getting notices that their credit card interest rates are going UP.
I’m an attorney who practices consumer bankruptcy law, and the vast majority of my clients, even BEFORE they got into trouble, had their credit card interest rates go up, and could never get the creditor to lower it for more than a few months.
I personally believe that ANY interest rate greater than 18% on credit cards or short term loans should be considered usury.

Zen Lill I can’t believe that you allowed a golliwog to dance with you. We English are trying to get them out of our country. Perhaps the solution the Jerrys used for the jews would be appropriate.

The GOP have ZERO CREDIBILITY! You crashed the economy. Again. Deregulation and the rest of the GOP dogma FAILED.
Spending stimulates the economy. Period. War works. Domestic investment IS MUCH BETTER.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
The thing that makes President Obama a different kind of leader is his ability and inclination to see more than one side of the issue. This is a leadership strength. This allows him to remain somewhat above the fray in negotiating compromise.
The strength of right wingers is their tenacity and their ego. They believe the economy rests on the shoulders of the egocentric. It is the egocentric that comprise the movers and the shakers and they move the economy forward. To them, all this talk on the left of leveling the playing field and caring for those less fortunate then themselves is pure hogwash.
Whether you are on the left or on the right in this battle over the stimulus package the arguments end up a matter of identity. When respect for the opposition breaks down it becomes a matter of protecting you identity. Rationality leaves the scene.
Rationality never made the scene with a lot of right wingers. Rush Limbaugh is their poster child. It is true that those with strong egos tend to get the job done, with or without a rational component. It is also true that the undeterred and unrestrained egos of the willful are responsible for the state of our economic wows. It is time for that fact to be brought to the forefront of this so-called debate.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Pork or not pork may be in the eye of the beholder. Let us wait and see how this bill does. This crisis is unlike anything we have experienced before in our lifetime. Obama wants tax cuts for the middle class for a change. Why ” Cause they’ve been bleeped for so long. One thing is for sure” the Reagan / Bush / Bush Sr policies of deregulation, trickle down economics, and Reagan’s HUGE tax cut for the top 2-3 % which went from 80 % to 30 % (in the 80′s ) then W thought his ‘ base ‘ of wealthy fat cats needed another huge tax cut ! SO to sum up: Deregualtion allowed banks to make ‘ bad ‘ loans -some made by predatory lenders, banks sold them as ‘ mortage securities ‘ to Wall ST. The loans defaulted / collapsed, as could have been predicted- so the banks sold these homes very cheaply. Home values tanked. It spread all over the US There you have it and I saw it happen- as a Realtor.. And it could have been prevented- with practical rules, safe guards and regualtion.
SO add it all up. Thats our crisis.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Once again, Bob, you’ve nailed it. I agree totally that if the Republicans want to filibuster, let ‘em. I don’t think they’ll have the political will to be obstructionists when the spotlight would be on them. I say let CSPAN should cover it and we should put together the same kind of hoopla we do for the Super Bowl. We should even do commercials. Get those creepy babies from ETrade.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
I understand we (Democrats) don’t have a super majority (60). I understand that the Republicans are obstructionists. I understand that the Republicans threaten to filibuster the impending stimulus legislation. I understand Senate rule 22. What I don’t understand is why Harry Reid does not use his power as majority leader to call the Republicans’ bluff and require an actual traditional filibuster!!??
February 6th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Speaking of the hostage rescue and high prices of the Carter years, wasn’t there some evidence that the GOP was behind it–working behind his back to get OPEC to raise prices and telling Iran about his hostage rescue plans? I must admit that was a new idea, working against people from your own country to ensure yourself a victory. Then cutting taxes for the rich and raising payroll taxes. Maybe that was a new idea to bring back a monarchy. I like the stimulus plan and am looking forward to things such as alternative energy infrastructure improvement.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
I’ve been walking around doing a S-L-O-W B-U-R-N at the gross and callous nature of the Republican anti-Obama propaganda (along with the terrible, awful, horrible right-wing media jerks who pitch in like puppets). They have danced around the stimulus package like whirligigs at a campfire. And they think the American people have bought into their crapola. WRONG AGAIN. Don’t they know Repubs have NO CREDIBILITY WHATSOEVER ON THE ECONOMY. They are the folks who got us into this mess and they think we don’t KNOW IT! How stupid are they? The election was WON BY PRESIDENT OBAMA because the American people no longer trusted the “blathering and hypocritical” Republican two-facers who are not worthy of our votes. Throw into that pile of ne’er do wells, some Democrats who have yet to find their brains and courage. Don’t they realize what thin ice they are on? Guess not. Oh well, they’ll find out. We the American people are ticked off, feeling powerless, disgraced for having put trust into the untrustworthy. We are perilously close to the edge of our patience with the Washington Terroristas who have ensconced themselves in our House and Senate (and you know who you are). You are tromping on our lives, hurting our kids, our partners, our homes , cities, states, our health, schools, our livelihoods, our pride and our patriotism. You turncoats, get real or go find other jobs if you can during this “recession/depression”. .
February 6th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
The Repugs do not care about what is good for America. Republicans are the War Party, Neo-Cons, Cheney”s Wall Street, Big Oil, Big Drugs, Banking Cartel or what ever you like, they all share a COMMON Agenda,,, MORE.
The Repugs stand for ME, NOW and MORE! They do NOT CARE what happens to America or to our Constitution. They are in the pockets of those who control LAND, FOOD, WATER, CREDIT, LABOR, ENERGY, TRANSPORTATION, EMPLOYMENT, or HOUSING
