The American Dream Turned Into A Nightmare

Posted by Michelle Moquin on March 19th, 2009

Good morning.

For those of you who want to continue to blame the Dems for the mortgage debacle, watch this video:

Owning your own home, is ‘The American Dream’. Bush says, “The American Dream is vibrant and alive.” Thank you Mr. Bush.  It’s vibrant and alive all right, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a ‘dream’. For many, their reality couldn’t be more of a nightmare.

~~~~~~~
Zen Lill: I’m excited for you that you had a great fashion show day – congrats! I hope that you have many more to come.
After reading all of the comments from yesterday, I really only have one thing to say. Anonymous #10 said it. When all is said, and a lot is said, it really comes down to what you said: “Their objections are so pointless, so confected, so illogical and so utterly self-destructive that it is difficult to see what their purpose is at all – except to see Obama fail.”  I truly believe that too. The repugs will do and say anything they can, not matter how it affects our country, or the world, when their main purpose is to see Obama fail. And it goes without saying but I will say it anyway, “And to amass as much wealth as possible by fleecing the American people.”
Oh I will say one more thing in regards to this topic. George: You seem to be our resident racist these days. I disagree with you. White men are going to destroy this country for good white men. White women look to Obama for salvation because white men have failed big time. As a white woman, I don’t look at the color of ones skin to determine whether or not the person is good or not. I look at their actions and are they walkin’ the talk. Obama is exemplary. I trust him; he does what he says he is going to do, and I support him totally.
Like you, Mary, “I love our Prez.”
I’m off to make myself a cup of hot cocoa. Impotent men: This could be your saving grace – throw away that Viagra and come and join me! :)
    B-VITAMIN COULD BE KEY TO MEMORY LOSS, DEMENTIA
    Even those among us who’d like to slim down a little might be understandably upset at the thought of losing weight in our brains, but it seems our brains do shrink as we age. Decreases in brain volume are associated with cognitive impairments such as memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The good news is that British researchers recently found that some brain shrinkage may be associated with low levels of B-12 — which suggest that perhaps supplementing might be a preventive strategy.
    ABOUT THE RESEARCH
    Several studies have linked B-12 deficits with cognitive decline and dementia. A. David Smith, DPhil, FMedSci, and his colleagues at the University of Oxford, set out to learn more about the association by measuring the amount of bioavailable B-12 in older people. In a five-year longitudinal study, they followed 107 individuals of both genders (mean age 73) with no mental impairments at the start of the study. Participants were given yearly exams that included cognitive tests, MRI scans and blood tests to track the amount of bioavailable B-12.
    The researchers found two things. First, those whose B-12 levels were lowest at the start of the study had the most — and fastest — brain shrinkage over the five-year period. In addition, brain shrinkage occurred even in those whose plasma B-12 levels were still considered to be within a normal range.
    TO SUPPLEMENT OR NOT TO SUPPLEMENT?
    The RDA for B-12 is 2.4 micrograms, which can generally be obtained from the effective digestion and uptake of foods like meat, milk, eggs, fish and vitamin-fortified cereals.  However, poor diet and, unfortunately, the effects of aging itself lead to depleted B-12 levels.
    Now, Dr. Smith and his colleagues are turning their attention to the obvious next question of whether B-12 supplements can reverse or halt the loss of brain volume once it has begun, with a study of elderly people they hope to conclude later this year. Though there is little consensus among the medical community about when B-12 supplements should be prescribed, Dr. Smith believes people over age 50 should have B-12 levels checked every five years or so, and take supplements if the levels are in the low-normal range. Have your B-12 levels checked right away if you notice symptoms of deficiency, which can include tingling and numbness in the extremities in addition to poor memory. Vegetarians and pregnant women and nursing mothers are also at higher risk for low B-12 status, so they too should discuss with their doctor whether supplementation might be advisable. Other people who might have low B-12 levels are those who take proton pump inhibitors and H2 receptor antagonists for prolonged periods.
    I’m with you Michelle and Mary. I am not having an easy time financially, nor was I during the campaign, but I sacrificed other things to find the resources to support Obama then, and I would find a way to support him now.
    I love my president, not in a fan club way, but because I have never been so impressed by a leader that started out trying to help the financially destitute on the south side, and was ingenious enough to see the path he had to take to make REAL changes.
  4. Anonymous Says:
    I gave more money than I could afford to Obama too but I looked at it as an investment into the future – not so much for mine as I am getting up there but for generations to come. He is a real decent human being and he knows what he’s doing. What we have to do is filter out the b/s coming from MSM because you know they are going to criticize him at every turn.
  5. Anonymous Says:
    This AIG thing is immoral. But as far as the Repubs are concerned, there are no morals, other than rampant greed and the lust for power.
  6. Anonymous Says:
    it’s still the bush debacle.
    The contracts for $400 million in bonuses were drawn up in March 2008 when BUSH and PAULSON were in office.
    Taxpayer money began being paid to AIG in September 2008, when BUSH and PAULSON were in office.
    In September 2008 when the $85 billion credit facility for AIG was created, it was set up with no taxpayer ownership stake in the deal, and BUSH and PAULSON were in office.
    AIG paid more than $75 billion in the final months of 2008 to numerous domestic and foreign banks, when BUSH and PAULSON were in office.
    AIG lost almost $100 billion in 2008, when BUSH and PAULSON were in office.
  7. Anonymous Says:
    It’s all well and good to focus on these particular bonuses for the moment.
    What about the system and the culture that pervades and allows for this sort of behavior to continue?
    The CEO’s are making it sound like these employees have to rely on their tips (bonuses) to make ends meet.
  8. Anonymous Says:
    So, now we know the name of one of the crook.. uh… executives whose incompetence ran AIG into the ground. Not only did he get an outrageously large “bonus”, he hit the Mother Lode. But without a fight, he’s announcing he’s returning the money?
    And we believe him, … BECAUSE WHY?
    And who’s going to vouch that he did it? AIG?
    Fool me once …
  9. Anonymous Says:
    This doesn’t mean that he will NEVER take the bonus. When all of this has blown over everyone will start “winking and nodding” and the money will flow again. Can you say “delayed payment”. These folks take care of their own; what now looks like a victory for the taxpayer will change in a heartbeat , as soon as we get back to watching “Idol” or “Leno”, or whatever we do when we’re bored!
    Do You Throw Out All Outdated Pancake Mix,Bisquick,Brownie Mix etc.?
    A student at HBHS had pancakes this week and it almost became fatal.
    His Mom (registered nurse) made him pancakes, dropped him off at school and headed to play tennis. She never takes her cell phone on the court but did this time and her son called to say he was having trouble breathing. She told him to go to the nurse immediately and proceeded to call school and alert the nurse. The nurse called the paramedics and they were there in 3 minutes and worked on the boy all the way to the hospital. He came so close to dying. Evidently this is more common then I ever knew. Check the expiration dates on packages like pancakes and cake mixes that have yeast which over time develop spores.
    Apparently, the mold that forms in old mixes can be toxic!
    Throw away ALL OUTDATED pancake mix, Bisquick, brownie mixes etc you have in your home.
    This is not a hoax…You can check this website……http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/pancake.asp….
    P. S. You might want to tell this to your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and anyone else who keeps these type of mixes in the cupboard.
    Hi Mischa, yes the American nightmare for most these days…bummer…
    I was trying hard to ignore George but I’m tired of his shock tactic, like we’ve never heard some racist rant about ‘niggers’ – and I agree with you, it’s not about his color, hello his mother was white, and that’s a non-issue at that, yep he’s a handsome man too, so what…that’s not what I’m impressed with, it’s his intellect, his cajones to do what’s right as best as possible given the rethug roadblocks. I dig him for that, not some ridiculous notiion that white men are superior or can do better (obviously not, George).
    The fashion industry is thriving, women aren’t buying as much as usual but they are buying…and I’ve got several more before season is over, want to join me for a party of 60 in April, should be crazy and fun, can’t wait…awaiting venue approval for 19th, let me know…would love to have you there!
    Oh, you know, Chinese herbal store, a real one, have been selling the all natural ‘blue pill’ for a while, works well on women also, no further comment, hahaha, but I think I’m going to wash down my daily dose of horny goatweed with some cocoa, just for good measure.
    I have to reread these anonymouses…it’s hard to track who’s who and who’s rebutting who and who’s agreeing with who, it’s all good, just would be easier if you gave a name/number to yourself unless your just spouting, which is cool also, it’s just doesn’t grab my attention as much even if it’s packed with good info, but that’s just me, carry on as you will.
    Ciao, Zen Lill
  12. Anna from Guam Says:
    Thank you Mr. President Obama You are the first President to recognize Guam as an equal part of the United States of America. Yes, we here are all born Americans. Thank you Mr. President. And thank you for the making Guam a part of the Stimulus Package.
    For those Chamorros on the mainland here’s the news.
    Guam – Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo today announced yet another stimulus award to Guam. $100,000 dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the recently created Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP).
    This latest award of Federal dollars to the island will help the GovGuam in the acquisition, redevelopment, and resale of foreclosed homes.
    The Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority (GHURA) has already received $2-million in stimulus funds for public housing development and retrofitting. In all, GHURA is expected to receive more than $6-million from HUD for the Public Housing Capitol Fund, the Homelessness Prevention Fund, and the Community Development Block Grant.
    Since President Barack Obama signed his stimulus package into law on February 17, Guam has received more than $28-million dollars in direct formula grants.
    In a release today, Bordallo is quoted as saying that: “The recovery package continues to invest in Guam’s housing needs.” And in all she says the island “stands to receive over $140 million in direct federal assistance” as the Federal stimulus package continues to pour money into Guam. “
  13. Peter Says:
    Anna I was going to say that. Okay, Thanks Pres. Obama you are the man. Now how about this item mainlanders? It seems there is no level humans won’t stoop to to make a buck.
    Accused Organ Transplant Swindler Appears in Guam Federal Court
    Written by Kevin Kerrigan
    Friday, 20 March 2009 11:39
    Guam
    Guam – Jerome Howard Feldman appeared before District Court Judge Joaquin Manibusan Thursday after being arrested in Manila in February.
    He was indicted in February in the State of New York on charges related to an alleged scheme to bilk thousands of dollars out of desperately ill patients seeking organ transplants.
    Federal officials accuse Feldman of taking as much as 400-thousand dollars from victims who paid large sums of money and were promised that they would receive organ transplants in the Philippines.
    Feldman admitted his identity before Judge Manibusan, and he will soon be transported to Syracuse New York to face the charges.
    The investigation began last June when police in Dewitt New York received a complaint from a woman about an organ transplant broker. She said her husband was induced to pay 70-thousand dollars to the broker to receive a liver transplant in the Philippines. But after arriving at the designated hospital in the Philippines, he learned that nobody was expecting him and that the doctor he was told to see would not have performed the transplant. The husband died of liver failure at that Philippines hospital without ever receiving a transplant.
    Hafa adai
    Alright Peter and Anna that was the good news. The bad is that the white man is still poisoning our Island at an unrelenting rate. The beaches of Guam used to be crystal clear. We could spend the night on them drink the water inland and swim in waters so clear that you could see the bottom of its beach waters in the moonlight.
    Today, just getting into the water is hazardous to your health. Your skin lungs, intestines and heart could become diseased. Why is it that everything the white man touches becomes toxic? This is the latest reason why many of our mainland Chamorros don’t want to return to this US Navy death trap.
    U.S. EPA Reports 21% Increase In Toxic Chemicals Released On Guam
    Written by Kevin Kerrigan
    Friday, 20 March 2009 12:21
    Guam
    Guam – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a report showing a 21% increase in toxic chemicals released into Guam’s waters, soil and air by six separate facilities on island. The data, which is the latest available, compares emissions in 2007 over 2006.
    The largest increase was in the category of water emissions which saw a 59% increase in contaminants flowing into the surrounding waters. Most of that resulted from a 45-thousand pound chemical release into Apra Harbor reported by the Navy.
    The other 5 facilities cited in the EPA report are: The Guam Power Authority, Hawaiian Rock, Mobil’s Cabras Island terminal, South Pacific Petroleum, and the Tanguisson Power Plant.
    Overall, Guam ranks among the lowest, 53 out of 56 states and territories, in total releases.
    Ruth, one of my dearest friends sent me this. I was so embarrassed to be white. I can only imagine what it must be like to be black in America.
    Ruth I know that you read Michelle too. I hope you know that I love you and respect our friendship. We have been best friends for 19 years. You have never mentioned the hatred you have had to suffer because of my race’s bigotry. I hope you know that I am printing this because it should be out.
    Michelle, this is a letter Ruth received from a friend.
    Dear Editor:
    I’m trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?
    If that’s not what you intended, then it was stupid and willfully ignorant of you not to connect these easily connectable dots. If it is what you intended, then you obvi ously wanted to be grossly provocative, racist and offensive to the sensibilities of most reasonable Americans. Either way, you should not have printed this cartoon, and the fact that you did is truly reprehensible. I can’t imagine what possible justification you have for this. I’ve read your lame statement in response to the outrage you provoked. Shame on you for dodging the real issue and then using the letter as an opportunity to attack Rev. Sharpton. This is not about Rev. Sharpton. It’s about the cartoon being blatantly racist and offensive.
    I believe in freedom of speech, and you have every right to print what you want. But freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. You are responsible for printing this cartoon, and I hope you experience some real consequences for it. I’m personally boycotting your paper and won’t do any interviews with any of your reporters, and I encourage all of my colleagues in the entertainment business to do so as well. I implore your advertisers to seriously reconsider their business relationships with you as well.
    You should print an apology in your paper acknowledging that this cartoon was ignorant, offensive and racist and should not have been printed.
    I’m well aware of our country’s history of racism and violence, but I truly believe we are better than this f ilth. As we attempt to rise above our difficult past and look toward a better future, we don’t need the New York Post to resurrect the images of Jim Crow to deride the new administration and put black folks in our place. Please feel free to criticize and honestly evaluate our new President, but do so without the incendiary images and rhetoric.
    Sincerely,
    John Legend
    Ruth, all your friends are just as upset as I am. Don’t feel that you can’t discuss this with us. We love you.
    Brittany
  16. Ashley Says:
    Ruth you think you got troubles.
    Today, my friend and i decided to call my boyfriend of three months on three way pretending that i wasn’t on the phone. They started talking about me and how cute we were together when my boyfriend says, ”I really do like Ashley a lot and its going to be even harder when i tell her i’m gay now.”
  17. Viola Says:
    Ashley, you think you got troubles.
    Today, I got a call from a girl I know, asking if i could babysit her little brother at my house tonight. I said yes. When the boy came over he mentioned that his sister was having a party and didn’t want him there. Turns out all my friends were invited except me.
  18. Tom Says:
    Viola I got you both beat.
    Last month, I got married. When I got in the limo after the ceremony, my new wife got a call from her best friend, who was in San Francisco. My wife said, “Yes, this one was MUCH better than the others.”
  19. Colette Says:
    This is misery.
    Sunday, I was leaving to go over to a friend’s and my parents suddenly ask if I’m gay. I reply that no, I’m bisexual. My mom then asks if I’ve ever made out with someone of the same sex and I say yes. She turns to my dad and says ‘I told you so. You owe me $20′. My parents bet on my sexuality.
  20. Mike Says:
    Are you people crazy? You got nothing better to do than to blog that silly shit? Get a life.
