A Weekend Of Celebration Continues….
Posted by Michelle Moquin on April 26th, 2009
helloo helloooo…
Whew! What a day yesterday. So much fun running into old friends! I absolutely loved it. Did some of my readers have as much fun as I did? And what about the dance…. Did any of you go last night? I would love to hear how it went. I was urged to go and even a friend of mine said that he would buy me a ticket – so sweet, but I declined. Thank you – you know who you are.
Phillip?: Hmm…I know you’re not my friend Phil. Unless you’re trying to be anonymous, but not quite. :) If this is my friend Phil, I so enjoyed seeing you after so many years. When my shoulder is done doing its ‘thing’ I would love to take your Karate lessons in the park! I’ll contact you on Facebook. Yes I have faced off but I take a peek now and then. If this isn’t Phil, refresh my mind if we know each other, please.
And Saul: Did you enjoy yourself? Why did you not come up and introduce yourself? I hope that you had fun!
Anna: Thanks for the congrats! The celebration was a reunion of so many different graduating classes. It was fun connecting with people outside of my own year.
Readers: I am diggin’ this banter that I am reading via the comments from yesterday. Brittany, Maria: I am with you. I love watching Obama’s brilliance too. Investigate, reveal, and prosecute, prosecute, prosecute. No one is above the law. If we keep voicing our opinions loudly, our president will know that he has our support. Don’t let the repugs try to distract. We know many will try anything.
Well…I am signing off. I am still celebrating. No the anniversary is over, but Doug’s Birthday is today and we are off to enjoy our most fave breakfast in the city….and then? Who knows what. Have fun what ever you do!
Happy Birthday Doug!
Gratefully your blog host,

I am new to this assignment.
I have been gathering data from the various forms of informational outlets available to humans. I have not made my decision on the collective intelligence of the citizens of the United States of America, yet. But I have reach a conclusion on some of those in certain key areas that will help me arrive at it.
It is my belief that the ability of a people to understand a concept is directly proportional to the belief they put in the systems that they receive their information from. Whether I will respect the opinions and genuine beliefs of those people depends on whether I believe that they have the true facts from which to make an informed decision.
So far, I have not seen a source that provides news information to the people that does it without a personal slant. More importantly most of the sources deliberately provide the news to influence the emotional state of the listener.
An example that comes to mind is America’s issue with “enhanced” interrogation. The majority of the media outlets refuse to call a form of interrogation that from all my research says was torture, torture. There are no laws domestic nor international that say water boarding is not torture. Yet, the major news outlets refuse to use the term torture. They still address water boarding as “enhanced” interrogation.
That is a deliberate misrepresentation of what is at issue. The issue the American people should be considering is whether torture should be implored when their leaders believe that only torture could provide the information that would keep them safe. Most Americans are deprived of that option.
Because of the deliberate manipulation of the facts the American people are left to debating the circumstances involving “enhanced” interrogations. They debate; 1. whether it should be used if it provides good or helpful information 2. whether the good, or helpful information could have been gotten some other way 3. whether the “enhanced” interrogation term is accurate term to describe water boarding.
As an alien viewing this debate. I say that if Americans are willing to debate whether torture works. They are saying that their are instances that they would accept their leaders participating in torture.
It may be that americans think that as long as they do not call water boarding torture, the rest of the planet will not view it as torture. That has been proven not to be true. On the contrary only the US is calling water boarding “enhanced” interrogation. The rest of the planet is calling it what the international law calls it, TORTURE.
Several things come to mind when I hear this. 1. These americans are saying that they are willing to open up a pandoras box that would allow other nations to use torture if those nations felt that it was productive in some way. 2. Those tortures would not be limited to water boarding. 3. If the USA could redefine domestically and internationally defined torture as “enhanced” techniques, then so could all the other nations of the planet earth.
The result is that the civilized nations of the world would return to the time when there were no Red Cross or any other organization that looked to set safe standards for prisoners.
As it is it would seem to me that american citizens taken as prisoners abroad for whatever reasons are now subject to “enhanced” interrogation techniques by their captors. That does not bode well for the young lady sentenced in Iran nor the young ladies captured in N. Korea.
The question becomes does the american people wish to risk being tortured or having fellow americans being tortured by other nations so that they can torture the citizens of those nations.
I now feel better about telling my comrades that it is okay to torture americans as long as the information we gather proves good. Have at it fellows.

WOW!
That is a scary way of looking at it Wnobr. You forgot to mention that it has been proven that the use of those tortures has been the greatest recruitment tool Al Qaada has ever had.
I watched “Meet the Press” too. It was a farce. Dick Gregory was promoting the accused Cheney’s claim that water boarding was an enhanced technique. He kept referring to “enhanced techniques” when posing question to Robert Gibbs.
Gibbs to my disappointment never bothered to correct him with the fact that the rule of law both in America and internationally has established that water boarding is torture.
Carl
P.S. don’t torture me or mine. we do not believe in torture for any reason. And we know water boarding is torture.

I moved around looking at the news shows to see who would be asked the questions about whether President Obama had had a good 100 days.
I was disappointed in both the choices of pundits and the way the questions were asked.
It seems that white men just can not abide a black man surpassing those other 43 white guys.
FDR, Reagan, they just keep reaching. Reminds you of how all my life my father has been touting Rocky Marciano as the greatest heavyweight ever.
Later I discover it was my father’s attempt to of the black athlete. It seems that I am experience the same for this black President.
Reagan as a competitor for Obama is a joke. This man had only three great talents. He could read a good speech. He could take orders from his handlers, and he could be President without being concerned about what was going on.

Hello Michelle:
I love Joe Biden.I just finished watching him in San Francisco. It’s my first time out West.
I was introduced to your blog by my brother’s fiancee. We went to your reunion yesterday. We just wanted to catch a glimpse of The GIRLZ. Once we found you we took several pictures. My wife got a hug from you. I don’t know what she said to get that. She just laughs when I ask her how she got the nerve to pretend that she went to your school.
It was a real treat to wake up to a comment from an alien. Wnobr seems to be the real thing. I must confess that I believe in aliens and I have for 31 years. I met my wife at a Star Trek convention. We both came as Spock. It was love at first sight.
She is torn between becoming a girlz and staying married to me and being mother to our three darlings. I love her so my influence is selfish.
I really didn’t know what to say. I just wanted to say something to get you to print thisl

The Power of Aromatherapy
Alan Hirsch, MD
Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation
romatherapy can be a remarkable remedy. When a patient smells a particular odor, scent molecules bind to the surface of cell walls at the top of the nose. This triggers the release of neurotransmitters and other chemicals that stimulate different parts of the brain.
Scents that patients enjoy are more effective remedies than those that they find unpleasant. Example: One study found that patients with claustrophobia who enjoyed the smell of green apple felt less anxious when they smelled it, but patients who didn’t like the smell had no improvement.
Intermittent bursts of a particular scent are more effective than smelling it continuously. Patients who use aromatherapy are advised to limit their scent exposure to about three minutes or less at a time — by putting an essential oil on a handkerchief and smelling it briefly, for example, or by walking in and out of a room where an aromatherapy candle is burning. Essential oils and aromatherapy candles are available at most health-food stores and many grocery stores. Or you can sniff the actual food or flower, such as green apple or jasmine.
Many health conditions can be improved with aromatherapy. Whether or not these problems can be prevented with aromatherapy is still being researched.
ANXIETY
Some scents appear to calm the limbic system, the “emotional” part of the brain involved in anxiety. Also, patients who smell a pleasing odor feel happy — and this crowds out feelings of anxiety and stress.
Proven effective: Green apple and/or cucumber have been shown to reduce anxiety by about 18%. Also, patients who sniff lavender have an increase in alpha waves, a sign of heightened relaxation.
MIGRAINE HEADACHES
Most migraines are caused in part by inflammation and alternating cycles of dilation/constriction of blood vessels in the brain. Aromatherapy changes the electrical activity in the brain, which can reduce vascular constriction and help relieve migraines. Aromatherapy appears to be effective for other types of headaches as well, such as muscle contraction headaches. It also promotes feelings of relaxation, which can reduce both the frequency of headaches and a patient’s sensitivity to pain.
Proven effective: Green apple. It has effects similar to that of sumatriptan (Imitrex), a leading migraine drug, and can reduce the severity and duration of migraines by about 16%.
Caution: About 15% of migraine sufferers have osmophobia, a hypersensitivity to odors that can make migraines worse. Also, about 18% of migraine patients have a reduced sense of smell and don’t respond to aromatherapy.
CIGARETTE ADDICTION
A number of studies have shown that smokers given cigarettes infused with a pepper-like smell have reduced cravings. More recently, smokers who were exposed to both pleasant and unpleasant odors found it easier to quit smoking, but the pleasant odors were somewhat more effective.
Proven effective: Any odor that you find particularly pleasant — lavender, mint, etc. Smell the scent whenever you feel an urge to light up a cigarette.
Also helpful: People who were born prior to 1930 tend to respond better to natural smells — citrus, the odor of baking bread, etc. Younger patients often respond better to artificial smells that evoke strong positive memories, such as Play-Doh or Pez candy.
LOW ENERGY
Odors that stimulate the trigeminal nerve (which has receptors in the nose and eyes and is the same nerve that makes people cry when they cut an onion) cause increased activity in the part of the brain that is involved in wakefulness.
Proven effective: Peppermint. People who smell a peppermint scent or chew a piece of peppermint gum or candy experience a sudden burst of energy.
Also helpful: The smell of strawberries or buttered popcorn. Both cause an increase in energy as well as metabolism.
OBESITY
A number of studies have shown that particular odors can help people lose weight. Some scents stimulate the part of the hypothalamus that controls appetite. Odors also may act as a displacement mechanism — a reminder to eat less.
Proven effective: Peppermint and green apple. One large study found that people who sniffed either one of these scents when they felt hungry lost an average of 30 pounds over a six-month period.
Also helpful: Take frequent deep sniffs of food while eating. Odor molecules, regardless of the food they come from, can fool the brain into thinking that more has been consumed, which helps suppress the appetite.
REDUCED MEMORY/CONCENTRATION
Most adults find that they don’t remember new information — telephone numbers, plot twists in a novel, etc. — as well as they used to. Aromatherapy can be used to accelerate learning speed and promote better concentration and memory.
Proven effective: Floral scents. Sniffing a floral essential oil triggers the release of norepinephrine and adrenocorticotropic hormone, hormones that increase attention. Floral scents have been shown to improve memory and learning speed by about 17%.
In one study, people were exposed to different scents prior to bowling. Those who smelled jasmine knocked down 28% more pins, probably because it improved their concentration and hand/eye coordination.
Strategy: Sniff a floral scent when the material to be learned is initially presented, and repeat exposure to the same odor when the material must be recalled.
CHEMOTHERAPY-INDUCED NAUSEA
It’s common for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy to develop an intense aversion to the foods they ate immediately prior to treatments. There’s little evidence that aromatherapy has a direct effect on nausea, but it can help prevent patients from developing a lifelong aversion to specific foods, which they may need for good health.
Proven effective: Smelling artificial cherry flavoring prior to chemotherapy. The best way to do this is to suck on a cherry candy. (This has the added benefit of stimulating saliva and helping to reduce hunger pangs.) Some patients will later associate the smell (and taste) of cherry with the treatments, but they can avoid cherry flavoring and continue to eat healthful foods, important for maintaining good nutrition.

Chamorros want another reason to return to Guam?
Monday, 27 April 2009 19:33
Guam
Guam – Despite the U.S. economic slowdown, an economic forecast from First Hawaiian says Guam’s economy stands out as one of the few places that has a brighter economic future, primarily due to a “massive” military buildup.
The report was compiled by First Hawaiian Economic advisory and Professor of Economics at the Hawaii Pacific University, Dr. Leroy O. Laney.
In his report, Dr. Laney concludes that “Over the longer haul, the military buildup will make Guam’s economy more resilient, similar to other economies that have a significant federal spending component. Various industries in the private sector such as tourism and construction are always subject to of cyclical variation. But the military provides an underpinning that is always there. Guam can be thankful for that.”
Read the First Hawaiian Report On Guam’s Economy
Among the highlights of the report Laney writes:
* Construction will undoubtedly be the leading edge of growth on Guam for the next several years at least. The industry must be prepared for a significant ramp-up when the military buildup does actually start.
* Guam’s inflation rate held in a steady range for 2008. Consumer price inflation registered 6.2% for the year, after a 6.8% pace in 2007. As the Marine transfer actually gets underway, the economic growth rate and inflation will likely increase further.
* Guam’s total visitor arrivals fell over 7% for 2008 after two years of approximately stable numbers. Its two major markets, Japan and Korea, dropped 9% and 10%, respectively. That puts the island roughly on par with Hawaii, which saw a drop of almost 11% in arrivals for 2008. Nonetheless Guam has managed to retain its market share of about 5.4% of outbound Japan travelers in the past two fiscal years. Hotel occupancies are about stable on average and room rates actually have been rising some.
* There is a need to develop a unified brand image for Guam. Efforts that go beyond marketing are needed, including cleaning up the local scene such as erasing graffiti and cutting the grass. Laney writes that “In the early days, most of Guam’s Japanese visitors had never traveled abroad. Now they have seen other places and have higher standards.”

Michelle I was sent this article. Is it true? If so, how do I get some of those pills?
Woman has 200 orgasms a day
Sarah, 24, suffers from Permanent Sexual Arousal Syndrome
ORGASMS: Sarah
By Matthew Acton, 04/11/2007
PRETTY Sarah Carmen is a 200-a-day orgasm girl who gets good, good, GOOD vibrations from almost anything.
The rumble of a train on the tracks, the purr of a hairdryer, the rhythmic drone of a photo-copier are all enough to make her go oh oh oh, ahhhhh.
She had FIVE orgasms during our 40-minute interview. But I can’t take the credit-it was just talking about her sex life that set her off.
Sarah, 24, suffers from Permanent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS), which increases blood flow to the sex organs.
She said: “Sometimes I have so much sex to try to calm myself down I get bored of it. And men I sleep with don’t seem to make as much effort because I climax so easily.”
As she chatted, Sarah became increasingly flustered.
“Sorry, you’ll have to excuse me for a minute. I’ll be with you in a sec,” she mumbled before letting out a long sigh.
Sarah, from London, developed PSAS after being prescribed anti-depressants at 19.
Stunned
She believes her condition was brought on by the pills.
She said: “Within a few weeks I just began to get more and more aroused more and more of the time and I just kept having endless orgasms.
“It started off in bed where sex sessions would last for hours and my boyfriend would be stunned at how many times I would orgasm.
“Then it would happen after sex. I’d be thinking about what we’d done in bed and I’d start feeling a bit flushed, then I’d become aroused and climax.
“In six months I was having 150 orgasms a day-and it has been as many as 200.”
She and her boyfriend split- and new partners struggle to keep up with her sex demands. “Often, I’ll want to wear myself out by having as many orgasms as I can so they stop and I can get some peace,” she said.
Sarah is a beautician and working in salons filled with whirring hairdryers and skincare gadgets can cause problems.
“If I start coughing and run to the loo, the girls know to fetch the client a magazine or a cup of tea,” she said, adding, “Sometimes I’d like to just have a normal life.”
Sarah says the Permanent Sexual Arousal Syndrome that she suffers from can cause her to have orgasm at any time of day.
She explained: “Anything can set me off. Even the hairdryers cause funny pulsations through my body.
“As a skin care specialist I have to use tools which vibrate a lot of the time for micro-dermabrasion and they sometimes set me off.
“I find if I’m nervous I’m less likely to get over-excited. So sometimes I try to psyche myself up and worry to control my orgasms.
“Some of my regular customers know my problem. But with new clients it’s hard to explain.
“I have been in the middle of a treatment and it’s happened and I’ve had to carry on.
“I was doing a bikini wax and you have to really concentrate and keep your hands very still, and mine go a bit wobbly when I orgasm.
“I had to pretend I had cramp in my foot and just stood there wriggling around on the spot and stifling my moans until it was over.”
Sarah’s friends think she is the luckiest girl ever, although her family think her behaviour is sometimes slightly odd.
She said: “The best way to describe how I am when I am with my family and I have one of my ‘moments’ is that I behave like Sheila from Shameless.
“I just get a bid giddy and yelp out and try to control myself. I’ve never sat down and explained it to my mum and dad.
“They just think I get a bit hyperactive round them.
“My friends think it’s great. I have more orgasms in one day than most of them will probably have in a year.
“They say to me that they feel lucky if their boyfriend makes them have one orgasm-some days I have one every ten minutes.”
It has proved to be a problem for Sarah in some relationships.
She said: “I dated one guy who was very selfish and he was that way in the bedroom too. He’d just lie back and expect me to please him.
“He just figured that because I could climax without him even having to touch me, he didn’t need to do anything to please me.
“I just thought that was rude and inconsiderate. It didn’t last very long with him.”
Noisy
She has also had embarrassing moments in public. Going to noisy bars and clubs is out of the question as the vibrations send her wild.
“We have to find nice quiet bars,” she explained. “I have more orgasms if I have a drink as it relaxes me so I tend to drink very little now.
“It can be a bit embarrassing if I’m tipsy and guys who don’t know me talk to me, because I find it harder to hide.
“The most embarrassing thing that has happened was when I answered a market research questionnaire and had an orgasm in front of the researcher.
“She knew what was happening and looked at me like I was a weirdo. I tried to explain that I couldn’t help it, but I was blushing so much I had to walk away.”
Sarah has even been to a Sex Addicts’ Anonymous meeting in despair over her sex drive.
She said: “At first when the problem started I just wanted to have sex all the time, I thought I was a sex addict.
“But when I looked around the room and heard the stories other people told, about how desperate they were for sex, I realised I wasn’t like them.
Problem
“With me, it was a means of releasing my orgasm, but now I know I don’t have to have sex to do that.”
Sarah has looked into the condition and believes it may have been triggered by her taking anti-depressants.
She said: “I’ve found studies that say that taking anti-depressants and then stopping has an effect on the sexual organs. That is the only thing that explains what happens to me.
“But I’ve heard of other girls who have the same problem and it just appears out of the blue. I’ve spoken to my doctor about it but she wasn’t a great deal of help but that’s mainly because there’s very little known about it and no one yet knows how to cure it.”
Thanks to her understanding friends and colleagues, Sarah feels like she can now live with PSAS.
She said: “I’m lucky because people around me are very kind and appreciate that sometimes this is a problem for me and it can be embarrassing.
“I need to concentrate on something sad or worrying when I talk to people and I don’t want to get carried away.”
During our 40-minute interview, Sarah told us she had five orgasms.
Years of dealing with the problem means that sometimes she can hide it quite well.
Her voice goes high pitched and she will lose her train of thought and have to stop talking completely for a few seconds. She says disguises this by coughing when she is in awkward situations.
“But it’s also nice to have so much excitement every day! It’s strange because it came from nowhere and I guess it could go away just as quickly, so I’m making the most of it while it lasts!”

How to Make Your Lab Tests More Accurate
Kandice Kottke-Marchant, MD, PhD
Cleveland Clinic
ast fall we held a health fair at our office. One employee who had recently had her annual physical decided to have her cholesterol levels measured again at the fair. To her surprise — and dismay — the reading on the second cholesterol test was almost 20% higher than the first. Which results should she believe?
I recounted this incident to Kandice Kottke-Marchant, MD, PhD, clinical pathologist at the renowned Cleveland Clinic. She told me that many factors can influence test results. These include diet, medications, differences between laboratories, even season (cholesterol counts tend to increase in winter). Patients can’t control all of these factors — but there are ways to increase lab test accuracy. Steps to take in advance…
Make sure the lab is accredited. The physician and the insurance carrier dictate where a test is performed. Labs are typically accredited by reputable organizations, but it is a good idea to check that the lab has accreditation.
Use the same lab every time, if possible, since there can be significant testing differences between laboratories. In my colleague’s case, only the first test actually involved lab work. The health-fair test was the “instant” kind — so disparate results were more likely.
Follow all instructions — for example, eating a meal exactly two hours before a two-hour postprandial blood sugar test or abstaining from sexual intercourse for two days prior to a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test.
Review your medications, dietary supplements and herbal remedies with your doctor. These can affect lab test results. For example, high levels of vitamin C interfere with certain tests… birth control pills can increase blood sugar… some antidepressants and blood pressure medications can decrease blood sugar. Generally, these factors can be taken into account when interpreting the test results, but your doctor may advise a change in your regimen before the test.
If you have experienced significant stress recently or exercised strenuously, tell your doctor. Those factors can increase blood levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammation indicator associated with heart disease.
To avoid bacterial contamination, clean yourself with soap and water before giving a urine sample, or particularly for women, use the special wipes available at testing facilities.
Dr. Kottke-Marchant warns that patients should keep a watchful eye during a test, too. For example…
If blood flows too slowly as it is drawn, clots may form, invalidating the results for some tests, especially hematology and coagulation tests (drawn in tubes with purple or light blue tops). A simple tilt of the tube back and forth may detect a clotted sample.
Check that the sample is labeled accurately. Confirm your name, type of test, date drawn and, if at a hospital, patient ID number.
Treatment decisions generally should not be made on the basis of a single out-of-range reading, says Dr. Kottke-Marchant. A second test, drawn from a new sample, helps to confirm whether an out-of-range result is in line with prior results.
Sometimes trends can be more important than absolute numbers. A Johns Hopkins University study, for example, suggests that the annual rate of increase in PSA may be more significant than simply looking at whether the numbers are within the normal range.
As for my colleague — after her elevated cholesterol readings, her physician decided to change her cholesterol-lowering medication. Her total cholesterol count is now lower, and she expects it to continue to drop. She is delighted — and so am I!

RULES FOR BEING HUMAN
1. YOU WILL RECEIVE A BODY.
You many like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period of this time around.
2. YOU WILL LEARN LESSONS.
You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called LIFE. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.
3. THERE ARE NO MISTAKES ONLY LESSONS.
Growth is a process of trial and error: Experimentation. The “failed: experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately “works”.
4. A LESSON IS REPEATED UNTIL LEARNED.
A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can then go to the next lesson.
5. LEARNING LESSONS DOES NOT END.
There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.
6. “THERE” IS NO BETTER THAN “HERE”.
When your “there” has become a “here” you will only obtain another “there” that will again look like “here”.
7. OTHERS ARE MERELY MIRRORS OF YOU.
You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects some thing you love or hate about yourself.
8. WHAT YOU MAKE OF YOUR LIFE IS UP TO YOU.
You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
9. YOUR ANSWERS LIE INSIDE OF YOU.
The answers to LIFE’s question lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
10. YOU WILL FORGET ALL OF THIS.
11. YOU CAN REMEMBER IT WHENEVER YOU WANT.
From “Rules for Being Human” by Cherie Carter Scott
