Happy Anniversary! The Blog Is 2-Years Old

Posted by Michelle Moquin on July 14th, 2009

Well, I blew it again….Just like last year. Can you believe I did it again?….I thought the 2-year anniversary was today, but it was actually yesterday.  I guess from now on, I might as well just celebrate it on the 14th because that is what is stuck in my mind.

Last year I had much to say about this blog and how it has affected my life. And this morning, I am in a different place, feeling a different vibe…..really I’m at a loss for words. So, this year, I am leaving it up to you to give me your two, if you choose. If not that is okay too.

Readers: What were the highlights for you? What were the down lows? What did you learn about yourself? Others? Share if you dare. Or vent if you wish.

Or talk about something entirely off the board. You choose.

I will say that I am always grateful that you read, that you spend your time here when there are so many blogs to browse.  I am always delighted to hear from you, whether in the form of opinions, interesting discussions, exchanging of knowledge, ranting, or just even a simple hello or thank you.

Thanks for hanging out with me these past two years, and being my virtual vitality.

Love, love, love….to all of you.

Blogging out…

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

    Happy Blogday Michelle!

Hi Viv, I am relieved to hear from you and have commented on yesterday’s blog, but then Michelle posted her new blog immediately after my comment this morning. You might not have seen it, so I am posting it again today.

I still look forward to your passage to Andromeda. Since you have told me where I would be stationed, I have so many questions about that Galaxy. For instance what are the planets like in that galaxy? Would there be many Solar Systems with Planets orbiting them?

I have been told that space is very bright for many years but have had a difficult time comprehending this. Now that I hear it from the TAO, I can picture it as true.

The fact that you can reach another Galaxy in 9 Earth days is truly impressive, since we could never get there on our own. 2.5 million light years would take Humans many millions of years to reach with the best technology we could possibly come up with.

I would love to hear more about our neighboring Galaxy since I might be put there to serve the TAO.

Viv what are the inhabitants like there? how many planets with sentient life are there?

I am happy to hear from you.

    HOWIE

A Happy Birthday to Michelle’s Blog:
I know that I wasn’t present at this blogs inception, but I stumbled on to it not too much later.
I feel compelled to buy it a cake or better yet give a gift. Now what would a two year old blog like (those terrible two’s), my best thinking came up with “more respect”. Not a brainstorm, if you have read any of my less than dignified comments.
Yes, one year of nothing but respectable comments from Al.
This does not mean all will be peaches and cream, but if comes down to slinging shit, it will be done with the utmost respect, only when absolutely necessary, and never, ever at our host Michelle.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MICHELLE MOQUIN’S “A DAY IN THE LIFE OF…”

i don’t know about the rest of you good people watching the Sotomaypr hearings, but it sickens me to see declared avowed bigots grilling her about being a racists.

Senator Sessions who was denied a federal seat for calling white attorneys who represented OTWs traitors to their race gets to accuse Judge Sotomayor a racist.

How does he come by this privilege? Easy, bigots in South Carolina elect their representatives based on them keeping white interest above all others.

Hence, avowed bigots and a party that is proud to brag that it is the party of whites gets their full support year after year. Racists like Jeff Sessions will continue getting elected.

So little hitler wanna be’s have no fear of being turned out by whites who themselves are bigots.

    Robert

  5. North Says:

Sotomayor told Sessions that she decided the white firefighters case based on the precedence of case law. She stated as most legal scholars that was the law until the Supreme Court changed it to say that NOW, the courts have to decide if the municipalities “have reason to believe that a legal court challenge would be successful.”

Notice that we don’t hear white pundits implying that the 5 justices who made new law to allow the white firefighters case to prevail were pandering to the white race.

The elephant in the room is why did the 5 justices have to establish a new test to validate the right that the white fire fighters were asserting.

If they could prevail on the merits of the case, why was it necessary for the 5 justices to make NEW law?

The white pundits place their arguments on the 4 justices that followed the established rule of law and refused to make new law from the bench.

Thank you Robert for waking me up

    North

  6. Sally Says:

How about the men in this country. A bit like the men in Iran. It’s okay for government sponsored insurance to pay for viagra so that men can impregnate women.

But it is not okay for government sponsored insurance to pay for the impregnated women to abort those babies.

Like the Iranian women who say the men want Madaline to help them get their liberty but they have no intentions of giving the same liberty to the females, the males are arguing they need insurance but they have no intentions of granting the same coverage to their females.

    Sally

  7. Zen Lill Says:

Hi Mischa, happy blog anniversary : )

I’ve been learning a lot about myself both on and off this blog this past couple of years…

My only low light is that too many ‘anonymouses’ in one day leave me feeling diconnected to their thoughts/the subject and/or the person behind it especially when another anonymous follows on with a counter argument, but whatever…

Robert, she’ll get the nomination regardless, it is a pathetic show of white haired penile implants being hipocritical assholes. Unfortunately, I also know my own bigoted daddy would be making the case for the white fire-fighters (he was a cop, same testing for promo’s) stating that if you can’t pass a test then wtf should you get a promotion, and claiming reverse racism. I say if you can do the job what the hell are they testing you for anyway? It’s only a revenue generator for the ‘study seminars’ and all that supporting money making BS surrounding the ‘testing’ all of which is paid for by the candidate (upwards of $1000 to do it right). Practical training is given to all the men regardless (cops and firemen) so doing well at that and showing leadership qualities should be the basis for the promotions. FYI-New Haven, CT is a strange demographic in that Yale Uni is located in the middle of what can only be described as a low-income ghetto so there is a huge divide between the ‘have’s’ and ‘have nots’ and the general attitude of whites living and working in the area, it’s rather odd and an amplified example of the financial divide there…it’s no shock to me that white men there would even file a suit like this to begin with, so arrogant…

I heard today that 430,000 people in CA are earning over 500K/yr and are paying 50% of the tax bill here, hmmm, hope they plan on staying : ) and guess what else, when banks finish all that crap with balance sheets and what not and real estate is re-valued (values after the glut of foreclosures hit the market, banks are holding inventory so people don’t totally freak out but I hear they have 42 mos worth in So Cal alone), real estate taxes being collected in general will go down overall, so I’d make a guess that RE taxes will be doing the old double/triple down in the next year so the ‘poor’ will be paying their share – uh yeah, and how about having some money to buy luxury items like – oh say – food??! OK, that’s my vent : ) Thanks!

Congratulations to you Misch, love you and love it here : ) – Zen Lill

  8. Ida Says:

My daughter who turned 18 yesterday gave me this to mail in to the blog. She has finally been allowed to read your blog Michelle.

When she originally discovered it and told me about it about 6 months ago, I used software to prevent her from accessing your blog Michelle. I did it because of the free wheeling conversation that exist on your blog.

I haven’t missed a day reading it since she recommended it to me. I have not yet caught on all the archives. It is definitely interesting reading.

Cathy wanted me to tell the story about the only woman to win the Congressional Medal of Honor, Dr. Mary Walker. It is claimed that she was the first woman to keep her maiden name that was married in America.

Dr. Mary Walker was born November 26, 1832 in Oswego, N.Y. She graduated from the Syracuse Medical College in 1855. She was the only female in her class because the Medical Association refused to accept women as doctors.

When the Civil War broke out, she attempted to enlist but was rejected; she then volunteered. She provided medical assistance to soldiers on both sides and to civilians as well. She received the medal in November 1865.

White men rescinded her award in 1917. They didn’t want a woman winning such a prestigious award over white men. They called it an unwarranted recognition.

Dr. Mary Walker refused to give back her medal. She often wore it around her neck until she died in 1919. In 1977 President Jimmy Carter signed a bill reinstating her medal of honor.

My daughter said that when it comes to white men as in just about every thing they stand for, even their highest award for military service has its hypocritical origins.

My daughter said that 10 presidents served until Jimmy Carter signed a bill reinstating her medal of honor in 1977. Do women need any other reason to replace white men in the White House?

    Ida and Cathy

  9. Al Says:

    Robert,
I have been reading your stuff since you started commenting on this blog, once I learned to shut my own mouth, it was apparrent that you do know what you are talking about (which never was in question).
This is the second time that I have had to admit to being an arrogant asshole on this blog. I am beginning to see a pattern forming here.
So you have another reader who thanks you for waking him up. Black Boy (just kidding)

    Al

  10. Julian Says:

    Robert

I too have been reading this blog for about 2 years. I live in Miami, too Al. I have been silently listening to Al and Howie complain about their situation.

When my parents arrived from Cuba, they were treated like shit from the whites. It took a while but we became politically savvy and joined the Republican party. The party of white bigots.

They thought they were duping us by pretending to have our best interest at heart. We saw how they duped the white bigots and racists into supporting them because they pretended to have their racists attitudes.

The truth the republican politicians are in it for the money and power, mostly the money. So we cultivated that party. Now the likes of Howie and Al complain about the power of the Latino.

It was all right when they had the numbers. They just don’t like it when the tables are turned. That is the white fire fighters story.

They benefited from keeping the OTWs from getting government jobs on any level. But as soon as the OTWs began to ask the government to level the playing field.

They decided that the government shouldn’t be in the business of quotas. When they made up 100% of the quota system that was okay. But to allow the OTWs to be 10% of the quotas to level the playing field is unconscionable.

Suddenly it is just horrible to consider race. It is just as horrible to consider putting a qualified woman on the bench to balance off all the men who got the job because they were men.

Now, it is unconscionable to let gender be a consideration now that most of the positions on the bench are held by white men.

Hypocrisy is a term that will describe just about any position taken by the republican party. We cubans just play it better that the white republicans in the party in Miami.

So Robert when Al calls you a “Black Boy,” of course he means it. To him I am just a wet back that is usurping the privileged position he used to hold in miami.

He is just another ignorant white boy who knows nothing about the origins of our country. Our country, because I was born here just like he was.

Spanish being my ethic language doesn’t lessen my citizenship or give me less claim to my American rights.

If Al knew anything about the history of his own country, our country, he would know that the country originated from people of a dozen or more different languages.

Early americans spoke German, Spanish, Italian, French and many different dialects as much as they spoke english.

That is the reason why the country doesn’t have a national language. Sure english eventually won out as the general language. But even today there are neighborhoods that reflect the individual cultures of those original ethnicities.

Whites are proud of their european culture and history. Yet they label OTW ethnic pride as some how unamerican. President Obama was vilified for having a Kenyan heritage. But the other 43 white men got to be proud of their european heritages.

The hypocrisy of the white male and their racism makes it difficult for them to allow the OTW the same cultural pride. That is just too bad because I am as proud of my Cuban heritage as they are of their Greek, Russian, English, Irish, etc heritages.

So, Al, you can count me too as a latino who has been awaken by that “Black Boy.” Keep up the good work Robert. The more of us OTWs that you awaken the better our country will be for all americans. Yes, Al, I may speak spanish as a preference, but I have no animosity towards you as a fellow american.

As Obama said when he was elected, he is the President representing every american. I am a war veteran who served his country to protect the rights of every american. I respect your right to speak english, perhaps one day you will respect mine to speak spanish.

    e pluribus unum

    Julian

  11. Lois Says:

Julian, I read your comment this morning. It was very moving. I rushed to work to be able to write this before my day began. I live in NC.

I like reading Al’s comments. Sure he gets carried away sometimes, but he has a good heart. I don’t think he made the “Black Boy” comment maliciously. He likes to provoke the readers occasionally.

I am an OTW who sees Al as someone I would be delighted to sit down with and swap stories. Al, have often wanted to slap you myself when you went off on Michelle, but when you apologized, I believed they were genuine.

You are often as critical of yourself as you are of others. That speaks to your honesty and desire to have a little fun with the too serious on this blog.

Makes me come back for more.

Michelle has put together a very good place to come to for advice, to give advice and to just have fun.

You Al are a much appreciated member of that family from this hispanic girl. You, Zen Lill, Howie, Robert, and of course that delicious Anonz are missed when we discuss the topics Michelle brings up.

We often say “stay tuned for Al” when we read Michelle’s latest topic. If it is a topic by aliens we say the same thing about Howie. His desire to explore space is so moving sometimes.

Michelle you are our Harry Potter books. A sort of an adult version with aliens replacing the magic. We don’t all take your commenters seriously. But we love the read.

My husband said that he has not seem a comment by me yet. Well, darling, I am here, love the special coffee you made for me this morning.

And thanks for getting the kids off for me to mothers. I was in a hurry to get to work today. I love you.

    Lois

  12. Al Says:

    Yeah Robert,
    Keep up the good work.

    Julian,
What leads you to believe that I know nothing of the origins of our country? And who says I have a problem with you speaking your native tongue Spanish. Why would I give a shit what language you choose? I am not on this planet to worry about what language Julian chooses to use. You are an American same as I. I speak enough Spanish to get by. And I just love Latin women.
Your comment reeks of animosity towards me, why is that Julian? Am I supposed to hate you for being Latin, or for speaking Spanish? No, not me.
Whatever “Power” you speak of you are welcome to, don’t need it ,don’t want it.
I, like you, am an American and I love this land and it’s people.
    Buenos Dias Julian

    Al

  13. Julian Says:

Bravo Al, I heard Lois loud and clear.

I hope you accept my sincere apology.

    Julian

  14. Al Says:

    Julian,
Don’t mention it. I was not going to become an obnoxious asshole again, and you hit a few of my triggers too, glad I misfired.

    Lois,
Thank you for your kind words
