Who’s Got Your Money? Steven Hemsley: The Man Behind UnitedHealth Group
Posted by Michelle Moquin on August 10th, 2009
Remember the questions I asked yesterday? Well…here is your answer.
Another great film by Brave New Films was just released a few days ago. The subject? One of our biggest current concerns: Health care, and more specifically, UnitedHealth Group and CEO Steven Hemsley. I briefly mentioned UnitedHealth a few weeks ago. Here’s a bit more:
What does UnitedHealth Care CEO Stephen Hemsley have to lose if Congress passes real healthcare reform this year? Well, for starters, his nearly three quarters of a billion dollars in (sic) unexercised stock options might lose a few pennies on the dollar.
What does Isabella, a four year-old girl in Winsconsin who is physically incapable of eating and has had to be tube fed her entire life, have to gain from healthcare reform? The treatment she needs to live a normal life.
Brave New Films is launching a major new campaign to reveal the truth about the health insurance industry, and we need your help to do it. Contribute $25 today so we can create more campaigns exposing the obscene wealth of the CEOs of Aetna, CIGNA, Humana and WellPoint and the policyholders they’ve abandoned for profit.
Readers: The server that hosts my blog has been down all morning. I have 5 minutes to post as I need to get to work. Unfortunately this is all you’re gonna get from me this morning, which is too bad, as I had a lot more to say on this subject. So why don’t you chime in for me and give me your thoughts on the above, or anything else for that matter.
I’ll check back in with all your comments tomorrow. Got to run…
Gratefully your blog host,

Health Care Part 2,
Yesterday I was lip flappin’ about the high cost of medicine for my knees.
$2,640.00 US Walgreens vs. $330.00 Canadian Internet for the same product.
Of course my insurance ain’t going to fork over $2,600 bucks to Walgreens, they’ll pay a lot less. But way more than the $330.00 Canadian price.
If I had no insurance at all I couldn’t afford a doctor to presrcibe it in the first place.
What do sick people do who can’t afford health care. They get sicker and poorer that’s what they do.
I have seen a lot of sick people struggling with life, due to overpriced healthcare, I count my blessings.

Secrets of Becoming a Late Bloomer
Connie Goldman
We generally think of late bloomers as people who were not successful until late in their lives. In fact, most late bloomers had fulfilling careers before taking their lives in new directions. Groucho Marx, for instance, was a famous movie actor whose career had ground to a halt when, at age 60, he began hosting a new type of TV show. When Winston Churchill was around the same age, many thought that he was washed up as a politician. Soon afterward, he became prime minister of Great Britain. And even Grandma Moses — who was nearly 80 when she began creating her now-famous paintings — had been long known among her friends as an expert embroiderer.
Most late bloomers, of course, never make headlines, though they also move forward in new and fulfilling ways…
Natalie was age 67 when she joined the Peace Corps, learned Spanish and became a schoolteacher in Peru.
Martha was 71 when she used her experience in stamp collecting to start a successful mail-order business.
Robert, an attorney, was 65 when he began caring for his ailing wife and mother-in-law. After attending to those obligations, he started a new career as a teacher at a local college. Now 80, Robert is still teaching.
OVERCOMING HURDLES
As we grow older, most of us become so wrapped up in old routines that we don’t consider striking out in new directions.
Trap: Many of us spend our later years moping around because we never fulfilled the biggest dreams of our youths, such as skippering a sailboat around the world or becoming a professional ballet dancer.
Better: Keep in touch with your dreams, but make them more realistic. Instead of ruminating about sailing around the world, for instance, think now about buying a small sailboat and taking less ambitious trips. Or, if you aspired to be a ballet dancer in your youth, now consider volunteering at the local ballet company. What’s important is that the activity you choose is personally rewarding.
STRATEGIES THAT WORK
Each late bloomer moves forward in his/her own way, and the first step is often difficult. Strategies…
Keep a journal for a week or two. Write down your daily activities as well as the goals that you would like to pursue. Keeping a journal of this type is an easy way to spot the activities that are now unnecessary, usually because they’ve been part of your routine for many years.
Example: Socializing regularly with friends whose company you no longer truly enjoy.
Written words are powerful. Once we see our goals written down, we’re far more likely to take them seriously.
Discuss your goals with others. Many older people have struck out in new directions, and how they did it can be both instructive and inspiring. Some friends are likely to encourage you, but others may point out drawbacks that you hadn’t thought about.
By talking with a friend who went back to school late in life, you may discover that the process is easier than you imagined. Someone else, on the other hand, may point out that starting a consulting business may take far more time than you thought.
Exploit your creativity. History shows that becoming a late bloomer nearly always involves using creativity that may have been neglected for many years. There’s creativity in everyone, whether it’s in managing a company, coaching a sports team, inventing new recipes or even arranging flowers. If you have any doubts about your creativity, jot down in your journal what you most enjoy doing. What you’ll see is a list of ways to be creative.
Some late bloomers make use of their neglected creativity to start a new and profitable career. Many more use their creativity to help friends and/or family members. Regardless of which path you choose, using your creativity leads to more enjoyment in life and the building of self-confidence.
Learn something new. Take a course in a subject that’s always interested you — a foreign language, painting or computer programming, for instance. Classes at local colleges and adult education centers can also be great places to make new friends. Don’t feel obliged, however, to finish a course you don’t like.
Going on trips and joining book clubs can also be enjoyable ways to increase your knowledge. Or you can ask friends to teach you something that you always wanted to learn.
Learning also has an advantage that’s not always appreciated — it makes you more open to new experiences.
Laugh more often. No one knows why humor helps us deal with problems, but it usually does. And when you strike out in new directions, problems will almost certainly occur. You might, for example, sign up for the wrong course at a local college. By laughing about the mistake, you won’t let it discourage you from enrolling later in the right course. In fact, laughing at your mistakes is a well-known way to build self-confidence.
Give it a try. Early in life, changing directions can be risky. That’s because we’re on a career path and may also have family obligations. Later in life, the risk is usually lower. Take advantage of the opportunity. If you say, “I can’t do that,” you’ll never really know if you could.
In fact, nearly all late bloomers have one thing in common — their willingness to take a chance. If you have any doubts, look at the originality of a Grandma Moses painting or read one of Churchill’s defiant wartime speeches.

I found this article on the web. It shows how racist this country still is. Some whites still harbor the racist thought that OTWs have to prove they are citizens.
Ask yourself if this article would have legs if the President were white?
——————————————————
Less than half of Republicans believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America, a new public opinion poll finds.
Only 42 percent of Republican respondents in a Research 2000 survey, conducted for the liberal website Daily Kos, said they thought Obama was a natural born citizen; 28 percent said they did not believe Obama was born in the United States; 30 percent said they were not sure.
The responses, which were gathered after several prominent conservative media personalities fed suspicion that Obama was unconstitutionally holding office, show the extent to which the conspiracy has taken hold in the GOP.
That only a plurality of Republicans were willing to acknowledge the president was born in America is nothing short of astounding, considering the preponderance of evidence that confirms his Hawaiian birth.
The conspiracy has a regional flavor. Overall, even including Democrats and independents, only 47 percent of respondents in the South said they believed Obama was born in America, with 23 percent saying he was not and 30 percent saying they were unsure. In the Northeast and Midwest, the percentage of respondents who believe Obama was born in the U.S. was over 90 percent.
Ninety-three percent of Democrats say the president was born in the United States, as do 83 percent of independents.
The Research 2000 findings were pulled together from a survey of 2,400 adults.

Hello Chamorros and the rest of the US. Our Guam representative to Miss Universe is moving on up.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
GUAM – She’s gained a lot of ground in a day. Since Guam News Factor relayed information yesterday from Pacific News Center that Miss Guam Universe Racine Manley was impressing judges and locals at the Miss Universe Pageant in the Bahamas, the contestant’s rankings in online voting have shot up impressively.
Today, Manley has hovered between 21st and 22nd of 84 total contestants. That’s up considerably over her 29th positioning yesterday. Her online score has climbed right alongside her ranking to 2.63 stars from 2.59 stars yesterday, putting her within two tenths of a star of top-ranked Miss Brazil’s online score.

The fact that republicans and the majority of southerners believe that Obama was not born in the US may not be due to just racism. It is due more to the fact that these are stupid people.
They believe it something is in the news, it must be true. Plus their IQs would have trouble rivaling that of eight year old.

Oh, did I mention that Contentinental Airlines is going to have a direct flight from Honolulu to Guam? Here is the article.

Continental Airlines to begin direct flights from Guam and Honolulu
Posted at 23:05 on 10 August, 2009 UTC
Continental Airlines will begin direct flights from Guam and Honolulu to Nadi, Fiji, in December this year.
The flights also will offer connections from Japan and the U.S. mainland to Nadi.
A release from the airline says Continental Micronesia will operate the new service using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 14 seats in business class and 141 seats in economy on the routes.
Charles Duncan, the president of Continental Micronesia, says Fiji has been a popular destination for high-end repeat visitors from all over the world and has also had a strong demand as a honeymoon destination.
Continental Micronesia is headquartered in Guam and operates a Pacific hub from the A.B. Won Pat International Airport.

Let’s take a poll…How many Democrats think Republicans are of this earth. You will probably get a similarly hyperbolic and (somewhat) sarcastic result.

Can you check on this? I heard that the US will be using unmanned aircraft to accost an alien ship they ran into. The Ship was mentioned in a comment on this blog.
Has the Navy mentioned the arrival of any unmanned aircraft being station on Guam?

AS A REPUBLICAN, AND FROM WHAT I HAVE OBSERVED OF WHAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW? I, SINCERELY, HOPE I AM FROM A SMARTER PLANET, AND THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THAT WE ARE WAY TOO INTELLIGRENT FOR EARTH.

Wow, how thick can you get? So, they think the Hawaiian newspaper announcements of his birth were put there fraudulently because his mom knew he would one day be running for Prez?

Nice article. I received this yesterday from moveOn.
With Congress home this month, right-wing extremists are crashing town hall meetings, shouting down members of Congress, making death threats—they even hung one congressman in effigy.
In order to win on health care—and the rest of President Obama’s agenda—we’ve got to double our efforts with a bold, ambitious plan of action to show that the overwhelming majority of Americans continue to support Obama’s plans for change. We’re calling it “Real Voices for Change.”

Anon9, how many of you geniuses think that the world is flat, or that biological science is the work of the devil?

‘considering the preponderance of evidence we want to see the prufe. Show us the REALcertificate, show us the student documents that show the citizenshi p(foreignS tudent) and the passportThat was used to travel. If that evidence was presented, we could KNOW. The open and transparent guy is really closed to showing his own information and has spent a whole lot of money keeping it hidden. We want to know, Why?
All the ‘evidence’ so far, has been a paper that anyone born outside the USat that time could aquire (not saying that is prufe, just saying it leaves room for doubt).
This man is the commander and chief of our military: the best military leader, leads by example, not one of our people in the military could join without presenting that information, why should we ACCEPT less from the supposed leader? It is all about HONOR&INTEGRITY.
