“You Gotta Give ‘Em Hope”
Posted by Michelle Moquin on August 27th, 2009
A little over a week ago President Obama posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the highest civilian award in the United States – to San Francisco’s legendary former Supervisor Harvey Milk. In honoring Milk, Obama repeated Harvey’s immortal standard: “You gotta give ‘em hope.”
As I read his mantra this morning, it is all I want to think about after reading Alexander’s account of the atrocities of slavery, that not only left me sick to my stomach, but left me feeling hopeless and with little faith in humanity. Not a good place to be, but knowing myself I know those feelings won’t last. It only fuels my fire. There is always hope.
And speaking of slavery….Did you see the comment of Governor Sanford of SC this morning talking about the flying of the confederate flag of their state capital? Some whites don’t have the sensitivity one would expect a normal human to have towards others. I mean we are all human….all from the same planet, and yet they seem abnormally fixated on their own self interest, with no interest, in any way, shape, or form, for the otw’s on this planet.
I write here everyday hoping to inspire and bring about change and I wonder constantly if I am doing enough. Much of the time I feel that I am not, and I wonder what more can I do.
Harvey lived his entire life creating opportunity for others. How can we do the same in our own lives? What steps can we take to create opportunity in other people’s lives and “give ‘em hope”?

ANXIETY MAY ELEVATE RISK FOR DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE
Medical research shows that anxiety may increase your risk of death by heart disease two to three times over, and now researchers at the University of Bonn in Germany think they know one of the reasons why. Their new study discovered that people with an acute anxiety disorder tend to have higher levels of blood clotting activity than psychologically healthy people. Blood clots, we know, can cause blockages in coronary arteries, leading to heart attack.
SHOULD ANXIOUS PEOPLE WORRY ABOUT HEART ATTACK?
The researchers studied 29 people suffering from panic disorder with or without agoraphobia (a fear of open spaces), social phobia or both conditions. “We chose patients with these two disorders because of their high prevalence and clear diagnostic criteria,” says lead researcher Franziska Geiser, MD, a psychiatrist at the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the University of Bonn. A blood analysis concluded that, compared with a control group of 29 psychologically healthy people, the anxiety patients showed significantly more coagulation (blood clotting) and less fibrinolysis (a process that keeps blood fluid and breaks down clots). The researchers designed the study to control for other factors, including medication and smoking.
Why does the body’s coagulation system become impaired in people with an anxiety disorder? “Anxiety activates the sympathetic nervous system with the release of catecholamines (hormones released by the adrenal glands in situations of stress). By binding to special receptors in blood vessels, catecholamines influence the concentration and activity of clotting factors in the blood,” explains Dr. Geiser.
GOOD NEWS ABOUT REDUCING RISK
The study results should not be interpreted to mean people with anxiety disorder should be really worried about having a heart attack. Anxiety is a factor that increases probability of heart disease, but is not a prediction. In fact, says Dr. Geiser, “none of the patients in the study were in acute danger.”
A follow-up study shows that coagulation activation subsides in patients who have completed successful therapy for their anxiety disorder. Dr. Geiser and her colleagues treated their patients with a combination of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy (CBT). Both treatments were effective, although there’s more evidence of success with the cognitive approach.
Dr. Geiser advises anyone who thinks they may suffer from an anxiety disorder to seek help. “Early intervention is important because the illness impacts quality of life,” she said. The longer you live with an anxiety disorder, the less likely therapy is to help. Learning how to manage your anxiety productively will not only make life better, it may also make it longer.

Mr. Hamilton, your reporting of my History is fascinating, yet embarrassing to me. I have never read a history book that contained the information of Black Northern Soldiers fighting the Confederacy knowing that they would be horribly tortured and killed upon capture by the South. They were truly brave Soldiers.
As far as Zmiv or Viv thinning out this overpopulated population which is consuming more resources than the Planet can give up does not bother me any more. I can understand their point of view. Should they desire to wipe out the Human population, it would be punishment well deserved. Humans are a plague to this planet and I am ashamed to be one of them.
As far as apologizing to Heba, Mr. H., It is not warranted. Even though you are discovering the truth of our history and the treatment of Blacks in that era, Heba is proudly giving praise to a Mad Man who attempted to conquer the World and Murdered tens of millions of Russions, Americans and the rest of our Allies, as well as Millions of total innocents. He believed in Eugenics — the changing of the population to Arian (blond hair, blue eyes) by murdering off everyone else, when he himself was an Austrain with black hair and brown eyes. He was insane and that is a fact. He was a sick sociopath and does not deserve praise no matter how awful America treated its Southern Slaves or any other race.
I have a hatred inside me which was nurtured by my Parents who spent three years under the worst conditions imaginable by Humankind, forced on them by Hitler. He was on an equal par to the Confederacy and does not deserve mentioning or apologizing to anyone for his actions.
There is no place in our civilization for either Hitler or anyone capable of atrocities to their fellow Human. Remember, the ones who write the History Books are the victors, not the losers so we are given a one-sided view of history by the winners. This does not mean they were innocents.
Mr. H., the invitation is still open for both you and Adam or any of the Tao. I anxiously await your visit one day. Hopefully sooner than later. Miami Beach is a Beach Resort. You may love it here for a weklong visit. You can work on your suntan at the beach where we can exchange ideas.
Thank you for bringing us this information, no matter how ugly it is.

Let’s all hope that Ted Kennedy will inspire a new breed of politicians much more like the old breed. Less personal ambition and with fire in their gut to stand up for what the less priveleged. We will all be in debt to the handsome Kennedy brothers. it is sad to think they are not here to protect us any more. We need more like them

Mr. Howie:
You are very correct. I did not mean to imply that I condoned Helba’s support of the Nazis. I just meant that maybe I wasn’t the one to be condemning her since my country is not exactly blameless. Even when we knew that Hitler was slaughtering those people we were willing to send him jews to put to death.
But you are correct in your statement. There is no place in our civilization for either Hitler or anyone capable of atrocities to their fellow human beings. I think that the aliens have chosen well by selecting you to be an ambassador with your convictions to be a part of their universal plan.

GUAM – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission found that 28,778 sheets of tainted drywall from China were imported into Guam, Saipan and American Samoa in 2006, according to Saturday’s Saipan Tribune.
The Commission found that the tainted Chinese product has been linked to 810 incident reports since July.
An excerpt from the Tribune states:
Tainted Chinese drywall has been tied to corrosion of metal components, foil smells and complaints by homeowners of health issues, including headaches, respiratory problems and nosebleeds. Complaints about the tainted product first surfaced in Florida.

The CPSC Drywall Information Center homepage states:
CPSC has received about 877 reports from residents in 24 states and the District of Columbia who believe their health symptoms or the corrosion of certain metal components in their homes are related to the presence of drywall produced in China. State and local authorities have also received similar reports.
Homeowners report corrosion or blackening of metal in or on electrical fixtures, appliances, plumbing and air conditioner coils.
Consumers largely report that their homes were built in 2006 to 2007, when an unprecedented increase in new construction occurred in part due to the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005.

It is April 06, in the year of our Lord 1865. Adam suggested that I appear on the Confederate side as a rebel. I accepted. I am with Robert E. Lee’s command. We are the diminishing Army of Northern Virginia entrenched at Petersburg, Virginia.
We are awaiting an army commanded by Ulysses S. Grant. It is several times our size. On April 2nd, the Union Army broke through our lines. We have been on the retreat ever since. We are presently retreating west towards Amelia, Virginia. There are supposed to be rations there for us. We are tired and starving.
We have ran into a Union Army that was waiting for us. The fighting is fierce. I am hoping Adam is near by. I don’t think that he will let me die. But the pains of wounds and other injuries are very real.
We discovered no provisions at Amelia. The ambush at Sayler’s Creek today cost us about a third of our men. We retreat through the bodies of the dead, dying and wounded and blood. The cries of pain from the wounded and dying are deafening. Men are deserting right and left.
General Lee says he has received a letter from General Grant asking him to surrender to save some of his men. I got Adam to bring me the letter it said to spare
“further effusion of blood.”
General Lee said that he had no plans for surrender. He said that we would make a run to the Appomattox Court House. He said that we would find provisions and more troops there.
Adam transferred us to General Grant’s camp. He was ordering General Sheridan to race ahead of Lee and destroy his provisions. General Grant had spies throughout the South. His spies had informed him of all of Lee’s provisional locations.
Grant sent troops on fast fresh horses to rush ahead of Lee and destroy his provisions. His intentions were not to take on Lee’s army directly but to wear it down first. He used superior wit to defeat Lee.
He kept Lee thinking the next possible savior was the next provisional location. He made sporadic attacks on his troops. He could ambush Lee at will because He knew their route and intentions.
Grant was 15 years younger than Lee but he was a superb tactician. He out maneuvered the experienced Lee at every turn.
He had Lee convinced that his was the bigger army. Then he whittled Lee’s forces down with precision planned ambushes. All the while pushing Lee toward the next possible salvation.
General Sheridan had raced ahead of Lee and captured several thousands of gutless rebels anxious to surrender. They also surrendered all the food and supplies Lee was counting on to General Sheridan.
Lee was beside himself. He ordered us to burn more than 600 supply wagons. I asked Adam to switch us to General Sheridan’s 6th Corps. I wanted to see this situation from the Union side.
When we arrived about 9:00 AM on Saturday. The Union army was leaving Farmville. After traveling a few miles we came upon the burned trains I had helped Lee’s army set afire yesterday. The roads were full of the things we had thrown away. I had personally scattered the desks, papers, and other equipment that were part of Lee’s headquarters equipment. I watched with fascination as I came upon my actions only a day earlier when I was a rebel doing General Lee’s bidding.
I could hear cheering all around. It soon became clear that the men were excited that General Lee had sent in terms for his surrender. I was anxious to read what those terms were so i asked Adam to take me to Grant’s tent.
He said not to bother because General Grant had sent a note back to Lee that he was only a General following the orders of President Lincoln and as such he had no authority to make peace. He told Lee that he would accept nothing but an unconditional surrender.
I noticed that the 2nd and 5th Corps had taken many more rebel prisoners. I sensed the end was near so I asked Adam to return me to the rebel camp.
Adam brought me back to Lee’s troops. It is now April 9th, Palm Sunday. Lee is in his tent dressing for his surrender to General Grant. Or rather as he said to “discuss surrender terms.” He sent a note to General Grant under a flag of truce asking for a meeting with Grant to discuss surrender terms.
General Grant repeated that he would accept nothing less than an Unconditional surrender. Lee sent word that he would not surrender then.
General Grant being the superb tactician that he was had sent General Thomas to take Lynchburg with the 4th Corps. He also sent a troop of calvary to attack the rear of the rebels in Lynchburg to support the 4th Corps. The rebels were so disheartened and beaten that more that three times the number of the 4th Corps, 45,000 confederate soldiers surrendered to General Thomas.
With the taking of Lynchburg, General Grant had effectively surrounded General Lee. Grant’s strategic attacks and ambushes had killed or caused to desert so many of Lee’s forces that he could not defend any side that General Grant chose to attack from. Plus General Grant had in reserve the 2nd Corps ready to charge Lee’s rear.
General Grant sent word to Lee that he would give him until 5:PM to surrender. It had taken General only one week to destroy Lee’s whole army. It is a tribute to the South’s skills that history does not give credit to the skill of General Grant who took a much smaller force and conquered the South’s best in a week.
When the exploits of great General’s are discussed, the south’s still powerful influence prevents General Grant from taking his proper place ahead of the line. His victory is excused away with lies about the South’s forces being much smaller and weaker than his.
I was there and now so were you. All LIes!. The reason the South lost is because of superior military tactics employed by General ulysses S. Grant. He would not take losing as an option. He instilled in his men the idea that they had a cause and that cause was worth dying for.
For all the South’s claim to gallantry and valor, when it came down to putting one’s life on the line, they folded their tents and went home. I was there and the fear and cowardice was palpable. These were men used to employing power in situations in which others were powerless to resist them. But when faced with a determined enemy capable of inflicting equal harm, they were basically gutless wonders looking for a reason to exit the field of battle.
All the South has left is the lie of gallantry, and the paint of valor they paint themselves with. General Lee put on his finest uniform the one he had ordered us to protect and transport to one of the lighter wagons. So Lee dressed in an immaculate gray uniform met with Grant dressed in a rumpled, mud splattered uniform to surrender.
The Union camp exploded with shooting in celebration. Artillery, rifles, guns, anything we could explod was exploded. The sky lit up with exploding fire. General Grant ordered us not to celebrate any more. He came out and said stop “the war is over, the rebels are our country men again.”
Adam suggested that we head out further South and West because the war would continue there for a few more months. But I am through. Besides on April 3rd while I was in Petersburg, I saw President Lincoln. He was surrounded by crowds of freed black slaves thanking him for their freedom. White women and children were standing behind them swearing and throwing dirt and rocks at the ex slaves.
I am heading to the Ford theater to see the assignation of Mr. Lincoln. Adam said that he would allow me to attend the plot to set Mr. Lincoln’s assignation in motion. The plot was initiated one year after he was elected during his first term. The opportunity didn’t present it self until he entered his second term.
If anyone is interested i will spill the beans. I love the new colloquiums, I have picked up.

Zen Lill,
I want you to know that I have no problem with you going to the gym to work on your physique. And you should know that if I said anything to the contrary, I was just being an asshole, jealous cause I can’t, or don’t do that anymore.
You do whatever makes you feel good and gets those endorphins pumping, I remember how good that can feel.
We have been friends for a long time, and anything you decide to do is probably a good idea.
I hope that things are working out for you (I know they are) and please accept my apologies for any rudeness. You know you have been a great blog sister to me. Just stay you and all will be fine.

Alexander H. I wonder How you are enduring the physical and mental strain that you must be going through. The culture shock of awakening in the future alone must be freightening. Then meeting Adam and accepting his existence as fact requires an open and accepting mind. Then witnessing and even taking part in what you have written about must be very fatiguing.
Commenting on a computer blog must be a strange experience to you, yet you have adapted to it all like a duck to water. Not to mention learning the vernacular of this day and age.
It would take a very special Human to adapt to all these changes in such a short time even with the accompaniment of Adam, this must all be a difficult yet fantastic undertaking for you.
Have you ever questioned you own sanity? I have questioned mine many times because of the company I have kept and the situations I have gone through, including reanimation.
You are witnessing a war which took place 60 years after your demise and yet you are familiar with future wars and happenings — even people such as Adolph Hitler and WWII. How have you taken it all in? How have you learned so much?
From your writing I sense your acclimation to all these new situations and knowledge. You have become a contemporary Human in every sense of the word.
I too wish to acquire many of these qualities and hope to do as well as you have.

Mr. Howie:
I feel that you with you association with Carr can truly understand my dilemma. You were very correct when you asked” if I doubted my own sanity. I used to doubt it a lot. Now only occasionally.
I see Adam do things with the casualness of me getting a glass of water. It seems to be no more difficult or impressive to him. I am in awe. To be Still around 252 years after I was born is amazing. I don’t recognize the death history says occurred 12, 1804. I don’t remember the event. I do remember very clearly every thing else I experience during those times.
I fully deny current claims that i was born in the year of our Lord 1755. Who are these experts claiming to know more about me than I do? Sounds like there more Edwards out there than we suspect.

Mr. Alexander H. It has been very fulfilling having a dialog with you via Michelle’s blog. I thank her for designing the means for us to chat. I have been so patient, not hearing a word of confirmation from the Tao except when I was angered and my over inflated ego called Carr into the picture.
I have learned a lesson in humility and outbursts like that will NEVER happen again from me. The Tao are our Friends and I will always remember that. I will give them 100% loyalty. I was so anxious to hear from them, and being a linear being, time moves more slowly for me. It feels like an eternity since I first met them on this Blog.
Carr was assuring me on one hand and the Tao were ignoring me on the other. I acted inappropriately and thought they would never want to hear from me again. I was torn apart. They do not feel the ravages of linear time. I do.
I am walking around without my feet touching the floor since we began our dialog a few days ago. Carr says “I told you so” and I am a fool for doubting.
I know you are enjoying the education you have received from Adam and I look forward to my experience beginning. I suppose I need to learn a lesson about patience — It is a virtue, you know.
I am changing topics to Humankind. I agree with Adam. My species has acted so cruel and selfish over the millennia and broken down many of the Earth’s Ecosystems. Global warming is just one problem to worry about. Humans have actually turned the Earth into a Garbage Dump and many species are disappearing forever. The end result is that the future for life on this Planet looks bleak. I blame Humankind for transgressions against their own Planet. We flush our excrement into our oceans and destroy the underwater Ecosystem as well. When the Planet looses the capability to support human life, we certainly deserve it and I hope to not be around to witness this sad event.
