Blog Biz

Posted by Michelle Moquin on September 30th, 2009

Readers:  As you may have noticed this past week, I have posted some Google ads in the side columns and at the very top of my blog. I have limited them to only a few so I hope that they are not too in-your-face.

Google places ads that are relevant to my site’s content. That’s the good news. The bad news is, I don’t have a choice of which ads are shown. This means that if I choose to show political ads, or health care ads, there will be ads shown from all sides. Kind of a bummer. But for the most part, I am okay with what is being shown.  However, there are a few that go against my grain, and every time they pop up, I get more than a little irritated. For example, as you all know, I support Obama’s health care and it is disturbing to me when ads are displayed in the contrary.

Making money is a necessity in life and my plan, in regards to advertising on my blog, is to generate an income. However, my integrity is a characteristic I take pride in. And right now some of these ads being displayed are messing with my integrity. They are not ads that I support, nor do I want to see them on my blog.

So, bear with me; I have been working on it. If these ads are bugging you, you can imagine what they are doing to me as this is my blog and I don’t like not being in control of the ads being placed. But as I said, I have been working on it, and recently I discovered just how to filter out those ads that rub me wrong: ads that I definitely do not want on my blog.  So to date, I have filtered out a few.

Since I don’t have control right now, (hopefully that will change in the future)  of choosing the ads that I want to place, the most I can do is when I see an ad that I do not like, is to have it immediately filtered out.

I am also going to continue researching other avenues. I have been offered assistance in the past by a few of my readers out there to help me market my blog. I have expressed interest but I have not heard from any of you. Perhaps you could e-mail me or try again if you already have. I could certainly use some assistance and I would be so grateful – thanks.

I’m keeping today’s post strictly biz, but I want to wish all of you a wonderful day in your world where ever you happen to be! Thank for tuning in. I’m always delighted to know you are reading.  As always…..

….peace out.

Gratefully your blog host,

Here’s an article I got from Huffington Post. It is about men trying to justify their rape of young women. It was brought to my attention by one of my staff. I just love those two words “my stafF That may change if it keeps getting bigger. I got staff to handle staff. I have a MBA, but this is getting a bit much.

The article, the article. oh yes, here it isl
——————————–Genius and the lure of young flesh.

Until recently, in the western world, the right of a Great Man to man-handle a reluctant, pliant young woman was simply not questioned. With the advent of sexual harassment laws, the old order is under attack. It won’t go down easily. Novels by and about angry and accused men have been written about unfortunate incidents, movies made. J.M Coetzee’s Disgrace, Philip Roth’s The Human Stain, even Zadie Smith’s On Beauty, tend to greater or lesser degree to sympathize with the accused. These Great Men, it seems, are helpless against their urges. In fact, their genius may well depend upon their consummated desires, and young women are fuel for the fires of their brilliance. And in the end, they are really willing minxes, whether they know it yet or not.

Supporters of the brilliant director are many, and they generally come from the intellectual, artistic world. Their cries of outrage are on this website today, including a petition from that great French feminist, Bernard Henri Levy, signed by equally well-known advocates of women as Salman Rushdie, Mike Nichols, Claude Lanzmann, Diane von Furstenburg (OK, the DVF wrap dress should be considered a great advancement for women).

To these artists and other supporters of the arrested director, the incarceration of the director is the end of a witch-hunt, the persecution of a genius by low-level, un-imaginative legal drones, who wear un-cool suits and wouldn’t know a semiotic deconstruction if it smacked them in the face. If Polanski did anything wrong, and some, I think, would even say he did not, he should be forgiven for a single folly, committed way back in the ‘lude’ and hot-tub heyday of 1970s Hollywood debauchery. The rape of a 13-year old was hardly the worst offense committed at Jack Nicholson’s pad.

By this way of thinking, to arrest Polanski now is like arresting a woman for riding a bicycle in public because it was illegal in the 19th Century. But, to arrest Polanski now is also like apprehending a war criminal many years after the fact. The war criminal may be living in South America, tending his garden and making sheep’s cheese, and his victims blissfully reaching the age of non compos mentis, but it means something to the world that justice be served.

Comparing a Hollywood child rape to war criminal behavior will inspire outrage, guffaws, ridicule. Bring it on. But first, let’s consider this fact: women are dying at the hands of male partners around the world at a greater rate than cancer and heart disease. Sexual violence is endemic on the planet. Some studies in Europe say 50 percent of women have been abused before they become adults.

There will be supporters of the Great Man who say that men and women are different, and that women simply don’t have or can’t comprehend the desires of men. The philandering middle-aged husband of a friend of mine comes to mind: he excused his romance with a younger woman by explaining that it was all about “the life force.” It was the recovery of that force he craved, as much as an easy lay. For women, eternal youth lies not in the bed of a younger man, but at the end of a scalpel. Twisted, right? Where is the older, creative female genius arrested for seducing the boy? There they are: perverted school-teachers. And if you know about them it’s because they are in jail. Mary Kay le Tourneau comes to mind. Look inside your hearts, women, and ask yourselves, do you secretly crave a 13-year-old boy? Maybe. The cultural taboo against such behavior is so strong that you maybe couldn’t admit it if you did. Would you drug one to get him into bed? Hmm.

Great Men – and other men – sometimes do find pliant, young flesh irresistible. Geniuses are usually forgiven for it. It’s a good bet Woody Allen won’t be signing Henri-Levy’s petition, but he could offer Roman some comfort in a jailhouse visit in Zurich about now. The Woodman’s story has a happy ending. So do the sagas of the millions of wrinkled, calloused, old smelly geezers in places like Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Africa, where marriage of men 40 and older to girls at puberty is only just beginning to be considered locally – and only by a very, very few – to be, perhaps, not so healthy.

In the end, that is precisely why the arrest of Roman Polanski is a good idea, and should stand. It doesn’t matter whether he is a genius. The world will have to live without his lifetime tribute ceremony, at least for a few months more. It doesn’t matter whether his victim – 30-odd years on and handsomely paid off – forgives and wants to forget.

What matters is that the rape of a 13-year old girl, in a nation of laws, in a nation where women are striving for equality with men, in world where we are hundreds of years away from that right and good goal, be discouraged, by example if necessary.

Hi Mischa, I knew what was up, tried those google ads on my blog a while back but couldn’t control content so I took em’ off, I’ll figure something out eventually…my goal right now is get enough topics to be two weeks ahead of release dates and edit/answer q’s/comments daily, almost there…

I have to come back to read Ruth’s article, on the fly right now, just wanted to tell all the women of MMblog this: my roomie we’ll just call her K from here on out, K has lost 6 lbs and feels way better, she’s got numerous issues that you’d never know about by looking at her, she’s a miracle, seriously…she has pins in both legs, a fake hip, knee, etc…from a car accident years ago so she’s on a modified version but I am so pleased she’s pleased!

So, Barbara, Susan, Stacey, Maple, Janet, Reba, Anna and chammaras, Uwella, Caroline and 4 cuzs, Ma Qin, and the French women oui oui ; ) Delaney, Grace (how’s the face accupressure thing going?) and Mindy (excellent and thanks for reporting in!) – how’s it going? I know some of you have families so it’s tough to eat 5-6 smaller meals a day but if you can try it, keeps the blood sugar even and here’s a few examples (K looked at me funny when I said this so I guess it needs an example or two) – so AM, cottage cheese 4 ozs and an apple, mid-AM 20 pistachios and 3 tablespoons of blueberries, lunch 4 ozs chicken and salad with olive oil & Braggs (or lemon) with garlic salt, I’ll give more examples tomorrow bc it seems necessary until you get creative on your own. I’ve got so much good stuff coming your way it’s not even funny : ) oh, but QUINOA – this is a perfect protein, you can cook it up (so easy, and it looks like cous cous) I just eat it plain with tomatoes or sprinkle it on a salad. I’ll give you the ZL tablouli recipe tomorrow, it’s not Middle Eastern – hee hee – I changed it…have to run and pick up my kid and then it’s month end, so work ends at midnight!

Alfonzoil, I could take that G spot remark a few different ways and it’s all good, I can afford myself and men can just watch me to see how it’s done ; ) though setting up an LD fund is tempting : )

Hi Michelle, now we get down to the nitty gritty. But first, last night at 5:00 AM I stepped out on my terrace and actually saw stars for the first time in 7 or 8 years of living here. Orion, Big and Little Dipper, and others. I live within 6 miles of the South Florida Coast. Must have been a smog less morning.

    “Homeland Security”

In the wake of 9/11 homeland security became a topic of utmost importance. However, instead of securing the homeland, offensive actions were taken against countries abroad. Instead of working to patch up the foreign relations nightmares that led to the attack by Al Queda, it was decided to head out guns blazing. It is precisely this attitude that led to the terrorist acts in the first place. Here, we moved from the land of the free to the land of suspicion. Now you can be held without bail or notification of your crime, and tried without counsel before a military tribunal, all for ‘acting suspicious.’ Heavily armed guards, and concrete emplacements appeared before government buildings, and a color-coded system of terror alerts was hastily created, but these serve better to frighten and worry the public than protect them or inform them of danger. Still, as long as the public is frightened they will vote more money for defense. Money spent to finance and expand our various military footholds around the globe.

  6. Health Info Says:

    VACCINE LAYERING EXTRA RISKY

You’re planning a trip to Central Africa so you need a vaccination for Yellow Fever… your doctor has urged you to get immunized against shingles… and you still haven’t gotten a flu shot this season. Getting all three at once may seem efficient — but not so fast.

Multiple simultaneous vaccinations are commonly given to people of all ages, but there’s little evidence that this is safe to do — and in fact, a growing list of research studies indicates it’s actually quite dangerous. Having more than one vaccine at a time increases the risk you’ll have a reaction, possibly a severe one.

There are significant safety concerns regarding multiple simultaneous vaccinations, cautions Vicky Debold, PhD, RN, volunteer director of patient safety at the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), a non-profit dedicated to the prevention of vaccine injuries and deaths. We talked about why this may be risky.

    VACCINES: NOT JUST FOR KIDS

In addition to immunizations needed for certain types of travel, many adults assume that the vaccinations they received as children are sufficient — but, in fact, immunity may have faded over the years. Newer and stronger vaccines are available today, and as people grow older they become more susceptible to infections such as flu and pneumonia.

The CDC now urges adults age 50 and over to get an annual flu shot (younger adults as well, depending on work, health or lifestyle) … a tetanus-diphtheria or diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis booster shot every 10 years… and vaccinations against pneumococcal pneumonia and varicella (the virus that causes chickenpox).

For the sake of convenience, it has become commonplace to administer more than one vaccine at a time, but unless a vaccine is licensed as a combination it may not have been tested for interaction with other ones — and there are no regulations requiring evidence that administering it with another is safe.

Once a vaccination is licensed by the FDA, safety issues are primarily evaluated through reporting of adverse reactions to the government’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS, //vaershhs.gov/and Dr. Debold estimates at best 10% of adverse effects are reported.

Another issue: Drug company clinical trials (which is how vaccines are studied) typically test them on healthy adults. Little is known about vaccine effectiveness or safety when vaccines are given in combination… especially to older adults who may also be taking other medications or have multiple chronic illnesses, says Dr. Debold.

    WHY ARE WE WORRIED?

Several studies highlight the risks of co-administration of multiple vaccines…

    • In an NVIC analysis of Gardasil (HPV or human papillomavirus vaccine) reports submitted to VAERS through May 31, 2007, investigators found that people who were vaccinated with Gardasil and the Menactra meningococcal vaccine simultaneously were at least twice as likely to experience serious adverse events, such as seizures and Guillain-Barré syndrome, a paralyzing neurological disorder that has been linked to vaccinations. ?

    • Joint research from the CDC and the FDA found an association with seizures when DTP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis) and MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) were administered on the same day or even within 14 days of one another. ?

    • In a study of adverse reactions to vaccines in travelers, researchers found that the rate of local (skin) reactions increased from 45% with one injection to 78% in people who had more than three. ?

    • In Japan, where multiple vaccination is uncommon, people who had simultaneous vaccinations reported significantly more frequent adverse events than those who had single vaccinations.

Awareness is growing and leading to more research on the problem, which is good news. But there are many nuances that must be explored as well.

For instance, many vaccine clinical trials are small and conducted over a short time, sometimes only a few weeks or months — which means not much has been studied about the relationship between vaccines and unexpected and rare events, as well as to chronic illness. Dr. Debold believes many more studies of this type are needed.

    PROTECT YOURSELF

Multiple vaccinations should be avoided if at all possible, as they may indeed magnify the likelihood of problems. And for all vaccinations, even single ones, Dr. Debold recommends…

    • Educate yourself about the risks and benefits — Web sites such as cdc.gov/vacccines and nivc.org are a good place to start. ?

    • Be aware that there are scientists who believe that the immune system actually benefits from experiencing illness — in a way that is more robust, providing complete and life-long immunity from the disease, compared with the vaccine that may provide only partial and time-limited immunity, Dr. Debold explains.

Note: For vulnerable seniors, for whom the risk of complications from illness is greater than risk from vaccines, immunization may still be advisable. ?

    • Check on reports of reactions to a vaccine at the government’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) Web site at http://vaers.hhs.gov/. Also the National Vaccine Information Center at http://www.nvic.org/Report/report.htm, has maintained a vaccine adverse event database, which is based on VAERS data, since 1982.
    ?
    • If you have a personal or family history of reactions to vaccinations, discuss the risks and benefits of immunization with your physician before coming to a decision, and avoid having multiple vaccinations at the same time. If you have a history of seizures or neurological disorders, severe allergies or immune system disorders, likewise carefully consider which vaccines you need and weigh their risks and benefits. ?

    • Consider rescheduling if you are ill. Reason: You are more apt to suffer a reaction.?

    • Always try to spread out vaccines by one or two months.
There’s nothing to be lost and likely much to be gained by spacing vaccines out by one or two months or even longer, Dr. Debold notes — it’s a way to increase the likelihood you will stay healthy.

If you come to Samoa, we will organize a parade for you. My brother thinks you are so hot, he asked me to tell you to say this when you meet him ‘O ai lou igoa.
He is attempting to use an old custom to say to you later in the evening “Ua leva le po, ina tatou momoe ia.”

The first question you are asking him his name. This he thinks would allow our customs to let him to say to you later in the evening the second which translates “It is late in the night, let us retire to sleep.”

You get his horny drift. Smack him for me.

We are trying to keep a happy face on in the presence of this calamity.

Stunned Samoans dug through the sodden wreckage of their homes and told of the terror of being trapped underwater or flung inland by the tsunami that
ravaged towns and killed at least 149 people in the South Pacific.

“The devastation caused was complete,” Samoan Minister Tuilaepa Sailele told New Zealand’s National Radio on Wednesday after inspecting the southeast coast of the main island of Upolu, the epicenter of the damage. “In some villages absolutely no house was standing. All that was achieved within 10 minutes by the very powerful tsunami.”

His own village of Lesa was washed away, as were many others in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga.

Military transports flew medical personnel, food, water and medicine to Samoa and American Samoa, both devastated by a tsunami triggered by an undersea earthquake. A cargo plane from New Zealand brought in a temporary morgue and a body identification team.

Officials expect the death toll to rise as more areas are searched. Among the hardest hit areas was the southeast coast of Samoa, with authorities reporting that several tourist resorts were wiped out.

“To me it was like a monster—just black water coming to you. It wasn’t a wave that breaks, it was a full force of water coming straight,” said Luana Tavale, an American Samoa government employee.

Survivors fled to higher ground after the magnitude 8.0 quake struck at 6:48 a.m. local time (1:48 p.m. EDT; 1748 GMT) Tuesday. The residents then were engulfed by four tsunami waves 15 to 20 feet (4 to 6 meters) high that reached up to a mile (1.5 kilometers) inland.

The waves splintered houses and left cars and boats scattered about the coastline.

“I was scared. I was shocked,” said Didi Afuafi, 28, who was on a bus when the giant waves came ashore on American Samoa. “All the people on the bus were screaming, crying and trying to call their homes. We couldn’t get on cell phones. The phones just died on us. It was just crazy.”

With the water approaching, the bus driver sped to the top of a nearby mountain, where 300 to 500 people were gathered, including patients evacuated from the main hospital. Among them were newborns with IVs, crying children and frightened elderly people.

A family on the mountain provided food and water, while clergymen led prayers. Afuafi said people were still on edge and feared another quake.

“This is going to be talked about for generations,” said Afuafi, who lives just outside the village of Leone, one of the hardest hit areas.

Samoa National Disaster Management committee member Filomina Nelson told New Zealand’s National Radio the number of dead in her country had reached 83 — mostly elderly and young children. At least 30 people were killed on American Samoa, Gov. Togiola Tulafono said.

Officials on the island of Tonga said Thursday nine people had been confirmed killed on the northern island of Niuas, and four critically injured people had been flown out for treatment. Two of the island’s three villages were destroyed.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said it issued an alert, but the waves got to the islands so quickly that residents only had about 10 minutes to respond. Another system designed to alert aid agencies suffered a hardware malfunction that delayed notification, but that did not affect residents.

On Samoa, the two-hour drive from the Apia airport to the heavily damaged southeast coast became little more than a link between flattened villages. Mattresses hung from trees, and utility poles were bent at awkward angles.

It was clear that tourists were among the casualties, but officials said they had no solid number of visitors in the area.

Three of the key resorts on the coast are scenes of “total devastation” while a fourth “has a few units standing on higher ground,” Nynette Sass of Samoa’s National Disaster Management committee told New Zealand’s National Radio on Thursday.

Dr. Ben Makalavea from Apia’s main hospital told the broadcaster that some couples can’t find their children, and fear they may have been washed out to sea. “One woman we saw was so confused that she doesn’t even know where she comes from,” he said.

Makalavea added that the hospital needs nurses, doctors, surgeons and blood to treat the increasing numbers of people with broken bones and cuts.

Red Cross relief workers were providing food, clothes and water to thousands of homeless now camping in the wooded hills above the coast. Volunteer Futi Mauigoa said water was in short supply.

“Tonight they are all going to be back up in the hills because the air out here is not really healthy for them,” he said of the rotting stench in the disaster area.

In Sale Ataga village, more than 50 police searched for bodies underneath uprooted trees.

Tony Fauena, a 29-year-old farmer, said the bodies of his 35-year-old niece and her 6-month-old son were found Tuesday but four other family members were still missing. “We don’t know if the rest are under there or released out to sea,” he said.

Suavai Ioane in Voutosi village said he was carried by a wave about 80 yards (meters) inland. Eight bodies were found in a nearby swamp.

The quake was centered about 120 miles south of the islands of Samoa, which has about 220,000 people, and American Samoa, a U.S. territory of 65,000.

Another underwater earthquake of 7.6 magnitude rocked western Indonesia on Wednesday, briefly triggering a tsunami alert along the Indian Ocean. At least 75 people were reported killed. Experts said the seismic events were not related.

Officials in the South Pacific islands struggled with power and communications outages.

In American Samoa’s capital of Pago Pago, power was expected to be out in some areas for up to a month, and officials said some 2,200 people were in seven shelters across the island.

The waves lifted a building housing a hardware store and carried it across a two-lane highway. Crews later found the two employees in the debris.

A Coast Guard C-130 plane loaded with aid and carrying Federal Emergency Management Agency officials flew from Hawaii to Pago Pago, where debris had been cleared from runways. President Barack Obama declared a major disaster for American Samoa.

Australian officials said they will send an air force plane carrying 20 tons of humanitarian aid, as well as aid officials and medical personnel to Samoa.

New Zealand provided 1 million New Zealand dollars ($710,000) in immediate aid to Samoa, Tonga and the Samoan Red Cross on Thursday. Acting Prime Minister Bill English said it was the first “of a long haul for … New Zealand … providing resources.”

He said Prime Minister John Key is cutting short his U.S. vacation to fly to Samoa to inspect the damage.

Hundreds of people bombarded American Samoa’s radio stations with requests to announce the names of their missing loved ones. Broadcasters urged listeners to contact their families immediately.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs said three Australians were among the dead. The British Foreign Office said one Briton was missing and presumed dead.

While the earthquake and tsunami were big, they were not as large as the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed more than 230,000 in a dozen countries across Asia.

    I agree with you Ruth.

The point is that 13-year-old girls should have rights too, and if we let every rich guy rape them and then pay them off handsomely, what will stop the poorer rapists from doing the same and then going the economy route? And all we’ll wind up with is a lot of f£ucked-up 13-year-old girls. Which is not good. For the girls or the society as a whole.

Sorry, Roman Polanski. I like your films too. But you did the crime. You gotta do the time.

  11. LTAL Says:

That young girl was lured into Polanskis’ company only because he was Polanski. She was not answering the call of any 44 year old man, he was allegedly shooting for French Vogue Magazine. So he used his stature to get her there. And now he wants to use his stature to get away with the drugging and rape of a child. He is a film director for gods sake

  12. JB Says:

Does it bother you that the raping and drugging charges were never proven, that the prosecutors after looking at the evidence didn’t even include that in the deal? This is a he-said/she-said situation. The jury would be looking for corroboration before sending Polanski to prison. Had the prosecution had this corroboration, they would have gone to trial, would they not?

Quick Adjustment Fixes Acceleration Problem On Popular Models

    By Michael Rudolph

GUAM – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a vehicle safety alert that urges all Toyota and Lexus owners to remove the driver’s side floor mats immediately. Do not replace the original floor mat with any other floor mat.

According to the NHTSA, the safety alert was issued because of numerous instances in which the driver’s side floor mat has created an interference with the gas pedal. The interference can cause “the accelerator to get stuck open under certain conditions” and can cause the vehicle to speed up and crash, possibly resulting in serious bodily harm or death.

Atkins Kroll Is Ready To Act

Guam News Factor was able to reach Mr. Larry Nicely, Customer Service Manager at Atkins Kroll Toyota for a comment. Nicely made it clear that the recall was related to the “driver’s side floor mat and clip” only. Atkins Kroll will not charge its customers for the recall repair and it is best to make an appointment. However, no appointment is necessary to have this life-saving repair made.

    Affected vehicles include the following:

    2007-2010 Camry
    2005-2010 Avalon
    2004-2009 Prius
    2005-2010 Tacoma
    2007-2010 Tundra
    2007-2010 ES 350
    2006-2010 IS 250 and IS350

Guam residents who own any of these cars should call the Atkins Kroll service department at 648-1876 regarding the safety recall alert. Nicely was pleased to provide us this valuable information because this is a real life safety issue.

In the NHTSA press release, Ray LaHood, the NHTSA Secretary, stated that “this is an urgent matter…for everyone’s sake, we strongly urge owners of these vehicles to remove mats or other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration.”

According to the New York Times, “3.8 million vehicles” are affected under this recall and “the recall is the largest ever for Toyota.”
