Palin: Propriety Politicization Or Prime-Time Propaganda?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on January 13th, 2010

So…what’s on everyone’s mind?

I can tell you what’s on my mind, like you haven’t guessed from today’s write title. :) Sarah Palin. Did you hear that she has taken a job on FOX News as a ‘news analyst? Really. Not surprising though. How perfect for her. I can’t wait to see how she performs her prime-time one-woman dog and pony act. She’ll certainly be surrounded by her kind of peeps.

So, speaking of not waiting, I took a peek. Here’s a clip from last night; her first evening on FOX with O’Reilly, so you can take a peek too, if you haven’t already:

Yep Sarah…you set the record straight all right. Uh huh. Not much of a dog and pony act; more like a side-pony. Did you catch how she avoided setting the record straight and kept using her book as a diversion? Congrats Sarah – My views of you haven’t changed one bit. Not that I thought they would. It was just a bunch of same same.

Oh and I’ll end it with a quote that I think deserves some blog time. It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news,” Palin said in a written release. (Of her new position at FOX News)

Madam Palin: My guess is your recipe for success will be easy. Just live up to your book title, and throw in some prime-time propaganda, mixed up with a bunch of rhetorical reporting. The tea party peeps will eat it all up: “Pass me a Bud so I can wash it all down.” Ahh….the satisfaction of good brain food and a beer.

Readers: Comments? What do you think? Blog me.

So happy to see that the lines are open again! Welcome back! Nice to hear from all of you.

Doug and Dan: I am closing my accounts too. I have found a local bank with a good rating and as soon as I can I am moving. Thanks for spreading the word Dan. I think it is catching on.

Peter: I can understand your concern. Reading all of your posts in regards to this unwanted growth is concerning me. It sounds like Guam is going to be way over crowded, not to mention the environmental and provision issues that will arise.  What to do? Hafa Adai.

Mike: Nice to see you hear from you again. Thanks for the update. It is much of what I expect. Keep bringing it on. Thanks.

Al: Thank you. Your support is just as important as anyone else. Every number adds up.

Update: 12:00 Noon – I just wanted to add that I have been reading about the tragic earthquake in Haiti. It is devastating. I hope that all of my readers who are from there or who have family and friends living there, safety, and a warm place of shelter and food for you and your loved ones.

Peace out….

I have my family and friends eating “cake.” I predicted that Sarah was angling for the big bucks as a fox propagandist.

Now my republican family and friends are avoiding me. Afraid of the “I told you so,” I guess.

Too bad, the woman is like most of the leaders and representatives of that party, they are out for making all the money they can from the ignorance, bigotry, racism, religious zealots, gun fanatics, and nationalism of their followers.

Appealing to one or more of those issues will make the powerful, rich and admired by the republican core and white males in general.

My husband is one of them. He loves spouting how god says a man is head of his house. I used to buy that malarkey until I realized how many stupid financial mistakes he has made with our family’s resources.

Now I take charge of the investments and we have had an amazing turnaround. He defers to me in all investments matters because we have become very well off with my financial leadership,

Yet, he is still spouting that inane mantra. God made man the head of the household. What an idiot! I haven’t cheated on him, but I am tempted.

I know that he would have jumped at the opportunities that I have had to cheat. I also know that he has cheated on me with his secretary.

  3. Health Info Says:

    THE STRETCHING MYTH

A recent study challenged that old, vague admonition to stretch before exercise. Apparently, it’s not that simple. Guidelines on who needs to do what kind of stretching and when should be individualized, depending on your exercise or sport, according to experts on the subject.

A recent study performed at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), examined how two kinds of stretching affect muscles used in different physical activities.

Twenty-four healthy college students first warmed up with five minutes of treadmill walking, followed by one of three options — three 30-second periods of static (the “stretch-and-hold” style) stretching…

the same three 30-second periods of ballistic stretching (where you bounce back and forth between a starting point and the “stretched muscle” sensation)…

or no stretching before engaging in a variety of performance-related activities examining quad and hamstring strength, lower body power and vertical jump, which are important to different degrees in a variety of sports.

There were 48 hours between testing days and the order of the stretching alternatives was carefully rotated.
STATIC OR DYNAMIC: ?WHICH STRETCH FOR YOU?

As it turned out, for sports that involve vertical jumping (for instance, basketball and volleyball) and quadriceps or hamstring strength (soccer, tennis, running and biking), it won’t really matter what kind of stretching is done — neither version helped or harmed performance.

What researchers did find, however, was that for sports that involved speed and leg muscle power (sprinting 800 meters or less, for example) both forms of stretching negatively impacted performance.

This is a finding that may turn out to be significant for competitive athletes in sports that demand bursts of power, such as track or football.

To get more detail about what these findings mean, I contacted UNLV’s William Holcomb, PhD, ATC/L, CSCS, of the department of kinesiology and nutrition sciences and coauthor of the study.

He acknowledged that the research is complicated and the results sometimes appear contradictory but noted that the application is simple.

“Avoid static stretching prior to performance if speed is going to be a factor,” he said, whereas “dynamic (also called “ballistic”) stretching should be a part of your warm-up for any athletic activities that require range of motion.

” For athletes who enjoy both kinds of stretching (that’s me), he recommends dynamic stretching and a warm-up beforehand, plus a cool-down that includes static stretching afterward.

IS IT ALL ABOUT THE WARM-UP?

Strength loss and stretching are two specialties of Malachy McHugh, PhD, director of research, Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital, so I called him as well.

He basically agrees with the findings, he said, adding that he believes that what an athlete does to warm up and stretch should be specific to his/her choice of sport or activity.

Though the UNLV study was about stretching, Dr. McHugh pointed to the fact that a five-minute warm-up preceded each stretching protocol.

Warming up raises body temperature and increases blood and fuel flow to muscles so they are ready for use in exercise.

This may be even more critical than stretching, in Dr. McHugh’s view. “The most important preparation activity for a sport is to start with low-intensity exercise simulating the activity you are about to perform,” he explained. “Whether or not you add stretches depends on what the activity/sport is.”

WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOUR WORKOUT

If you’re not a competitive athlete, what does all this mean to you?

    • Warm up your muscles lightly and aerobically before any kind of stretching or workout.

    • Dynamic stretching helps prepare muscles for all types of activity.

    • Don’t do static stretching before your sport if it requires your utmost power and speed.

Achieving appropriate range of motion of your joints should be the goal of pre-exercise activity. Whether you do only a gentler version of your activity or also add sport-appropriate stretching depends in part on your activity — and also on what feels good to you.

    Damn, Washington D.C.!

    This is pretty fucked up!!

Apparently if a woman is stopped by police in a D.C. “Prostitution Free Zone” and is carrying three or more condoms on her, she could be arrested for prostitution!!!!

Both New York City and San Francisco have followed suit with the ‘three condoms and you’re out’ law, which not only is unfortunate for those gals who aren’t sex workers, it also promotes unsafe sex for those who are!

    Not okay!

Our ladies should be allowed to keep themselves safe from STDs no matter what!

Guam – The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, has prompted an outcry of international support. The American Red Cross is contributing an initial $1,000,000 from the International Response Fund to support the relief operations in Haiti and has opened the Wherehouse in Panama to provide tarps, mosquito nets and cooking instruments for approximately 5,000 families.

The Red Cross has deployed six management disaster specialists to the region to help coordinate the relief efforts. Chita Blaise with the Guam Chapter of the American Red Cross says they are accepting monetary donations.

If you would like to make such a contribution, please make checks out to the International Response Fund with a memo to “Haiti Earthquake”. You can drop off the donation at their office in Hagatna.

    ____________
12:10 p.m. — The Guam Homeless Coalition will start its homeless count on the island on Jan. 29.

Greg Borja, who chairs the coalition said the count is important because homelessness on Guam needs to end.

“Guam is behind in addressing homelessness,” Borja said. “Most states provide funding to address homelessness, Guam does not…Right now we are behind the eight ball because we are still learning and growing.”

On Jan. 29, the coalition and its volunteers will make two runs across the island to gather data. The first will be from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and the second will be from at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Though they have enough volunteers, Borja said anyone who want to lend their services can call 477-7671.

It both enlightening and depressing discovering what lengths the right will go to to win an election. Check this bulls**t out by Gingrich.
    ========
    What’s Going on in Massachusetts?

    By Newt Gingrich

With one week to go, who will win the special election in Massachusetts to replace the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D) is still anybody’s guess. But before a single vote is counted, we can be sure of this: The Massachusetts race is already telling us a lot about how unhappy Americans are with the liberal, big government agenda in Washington.

On Monday, Scott Brown raised an extraordinary $1.3 million from over 16,000 donations averaging less than $80.

And a poll released earlier this week by the left-leaning polling firm Public Policy Polling shows the race between little known Republican State Senator Scott Brown and Kennedy’s anointed successor, Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley, in a dead heat.
    Sponsored Content

Another poll by the Boston Globe released this week has Coakley up by 15 points.

There are reasons to trust the first poll more than the second, but the bottom line is that we don’t know what will happen in Massachusetts.

We don’t know if Scott Brown can win.

But there are some things we do know about what’s going on in Massachusetts – and they are all bad signs for President Obama and his party.
Even if Brown Doesn’t Win, the Election is a Negative
Referendum on Democratic Rule in Washington

First and foremost, we know that a combination of persistent unemployment, taxes, liberal health care reform and national security fears have made this race to fill the seat of the late liberal lion of the Senate, Ted Kennedy – in a state in which Democrats outnumber Republicans by three to one – closer than anyone would have dreamed three years ago.

The very fact that this race is even close is a sign of how unhappy Americans are with Democratic rule in Washington.

Brown has run hard on the kitchen table issues that Americans care about.

He’s highlighted the ever increasing salaries being paid to growing numbers of government employees with the tax dollars of recession-battered Bay Staters.

He’s reminded Massachusetts voters of Coakley’s penchant for taking more of their money, repeating her assertion from just a few months ago that “We need to get taxes up.”

Brown has also pushed back on Coakley’s commitment that terrorists, like the would-be Christmas Day bomber, receive all the rights and privileges of criminal defendants rather than be treated as enemy combatants.
Opposition to Democratic Health Reform is Motivating Voters

But the issue that seems to be working more in Mr. Brown’s favor than any other is Democratic health care reform.

The Public Policy Polling data that shows the race in a dead heat also shows that opposition to liberal health care reform is motivating the electorate. The survey found that Massachusetts voters who are planning to vote in the Jan. 19 special election are opposed to the Obama health care plan by 47-41.
    Sponsored Content
“Former U.S. Congressman and Washington insider blows the
    whistle on Official Congressional
    “Doomsday” Report and reveals…”

How you can safely (and legally) protect yourself against the two nightmarish financial scenarios just issued by Congress, why hyperinflation is inevitable – resulting in your dollars being worth only pennies, and why a complete “lock-down” on your money is right around the corner. But most important, find out…what you can do about it today!

And the Washington Examiner’s Byron York reports that even in the Boston Globe poll in which Coakley is up by 15, voters cite health care as the main concern and only 43 percent of Massachusetts voters, who have had real experience with a state health plan that closely resembles the Obama plan, support Democratic health reform.

Among independents, only 33 percent favor reform with 43 percent opposed and 23 percent undecided.

And again, the intensity among voters lies with opponents of health reform. Sixtyfive percent of Republicans say they “strongly oppose” reform, while only 28 percent of Democrats say they “strongly support” Democratic health care reform.
A Plan to Stall Brown’s Swearing-In Until Health Reform is Passed?

There’s one more thing that the Massachusetts special election is telling us about the party in control of Washington today: That their will to power is stronger than their respect for the will of the people.

If he were to win, Scott Brown would be the deciding vote in the Senate to block Democratic health care reform.

But to be the 41st vote, Brown would have to first be sworn in as Senator. And to be seated as a Senator, he would first need to have his victory certified by the state of Massachusetts.

But the media is reporting that some Massachusetts officials are prepared to delay certification of Brown’s potential victory until after the vote is held in the Senate.

In other words, supporters of Democratic health care are willing to do anything – even defy the democratically expressed will of the people – to ram through liberal health care reform.

If you aren’t yet convinced of how strongly Americans are rejecting the liberal Democratic agenda, keep your eyes on the Massachusetts Senate race. Whoever eventually wins, it’s already told us a lot.
    Tell Washington You’ve Had Enough
    at http://www.healthtransformation.net

And while we’re on the issue of health care reform, there’s an opportunity for you to tell the liberal leadership in Washington that you’ve had enough of the hypocrisy and false promises of “openness” when it comes to health care reform.

President Obama promised us an open and democratic process. What we’ve gotten has been precisely the opposite—a process full of backroom deals, secret negotiations and anti-democratic maneuvering.

Tell Washington you’ve had enough. Join the Center for Health Transformation letter writing campaign to open the House-Senate negotiations over health care reform to the American people through C-SPAN coverage.

Just go to http://www.healthtransformation.net and add your name to the nearly 10,000 Americans who are calling on President Obama and the Democratic congressional leadership to permit C-SPAN coverage of the health care negotiations.

There’s too much at stake for you and your family not to get involved. Join us in holding Washington accountable for their past promises and their future results.

    Your friend,

    Newt Gingrich

I saw AVATAR today. It is a disguised tale of the genocide of the American indian by white america. Watching those people fight cannons and guns with bows and arrows was horrifying.

I cried thinking of how more than 12 million human beings were exterminated like vermin. Is it any wonder my ancestors were called creatures as opposed to being human beings.

I can only imagine some of my male relatives running around with their 45′s with the right to kill at will another human being because the being was considered a “savage.”

Today the sons of the real savages are stocking up on guns hoping for a race war so they can kill other human beings at will.

I am starting to believe that my race are creatures with the occasional human being like the few who helped the blacks in south africa to overthrow the creatures that kept them in slavery for 50 years.

    Marsha
