Tax Scam Targets

I love the early mornings. Especially because of the light. Right now the light is so stunning on the houses across the street, as I look our through my office window. And the birds are singing. All is good from my perspective. I hope yours is too. :P

So…tax time is here again. And I am sure like myself, many of you are still in the midst of doing your taxes, that is if you’ve even started them yet. Perhaps this weekend is the day to get it going.  If so, you might want to read below:

What Are the Latest Tax Scam Targets?
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>

With a record number of Americans expected to file their IRS returns online this year, authorities expect to see a corresponding rise in Internet- and email-based tax scam tricks.

There’s new concern too that the rise in the number of home-based businesses could spark a bout of phony tax schemes that fool people into making expense claims they’re not entitled to.

And for those who prefer a non-technical, offline approach, the IRS continues to warn taxpayers of the need for caution when selecting a tax preparer. We have 7 tips to help you make a wise decision.

But first, those online tax scams…

Bogus Websites and Emails

By one estimate, at least 5,000 phony websites, hosted in more than 50 countries, will be online this year, claiming to be part of or linked to the IRS.

Victims usually arrive there by clicking a link in an email, which, again, seems to come from the IRS or an associated group such as the Free File Alliance (a legitimate organization) or the IRS Antifraud Commission (a non-existent body).

Under the guise of the Free File Alliance, a real organization comprising tax software companies and the IRS, a bogus message directs users to file tax returns electronically via the site.

The crooks do actually file the form — but not before altering the bank account details, so they get the refunds!

In the case of the Antifraud Commission, the bogus message claims that someone has registered the recipient’s credit card with the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) and that the card is being used to make payments.

Following a link in the email takes victims to a phony web page where they are asked to provide their card details, Social Security number and other personal information.

This identity theft / phishing ruse is a common approach in most of the online tax scams.

Other recent examples of IRS scams include messages that tell victims they have to complete an online updated version of their W-2 forms.

Action: The IRS never, but never, initiates correspondence with taxpayers by email and they never ask for your SSN or other financial details because they already have them on your form or on file.

If you’re filing directly, rather than through tax software, the only free file site is via irs.gov — and note that a tax site without that .gov extension is NOT the IRS.

And when it’s all done, any email that tells you there’s money waiting for you is an out and out tax refund scam, nothing less.

For more information on online tax scam tricks, check out the following Scambusters issue.

The Home-based Business Tax Scam

The huge shift towards home-working, whether through ”telecommuting” as part of a regular job, or by setting up and running a home-based business, provides tax scam artists with another route to get at your pocket.

In this case, the crooks promote schemes via both websites and email. Their message is usually that they can help you claim or write off large chunks of your personal and living costs as legitimate business expenses.

In some cases, these IRS scam tricksters sell kits that are supposed to point you towards these expense claims; in other cases, they simply suggest you inflate business expenses.

In yet other instances, tax preparers have been known to suggest clients simply invent a non-existent home business as a source for deduction.

Action: With the growth in this type of work, the IRS is casting a closer eye than ever on home business expenses. Their guidelines: expense claims must be “ordinary and necessary” in relation to legitimate business activity.

Tax software can often guide you through this but the bottom line is that if you’re not sure about what you can claim, contact your tax preparer, and if that’s not possible, the IRS. And if you’re not in business, don’t pretend you are!

Selecting Your Tax Preparer

Using a qualified, reputable tax preparer is often the least painful route to paying the least amount of taxes. On the other hand, using a bad one can cost you a lot of money and could even put in you in jail, since you are ultimately responsible for the information that goes on your tax form.

We covered this subject in the Scambusters issue above. You will also find more useful information in last year’s Scambusters special on the IRS “Dirty Dozen” tax scams and tax relief scams.

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=8JUKO&m=1cxv3kgiM0tWfo&b=c0iE4_YFhUACn18yWkzSiA

Meanwhile, here are 7 simple tips that will help you find and work successfully with a reputable tax preparer:

1. Check if they’re “enrolled” tax preparers (which means they have taken an IRS exam) and/or qualified CPAs. Over the next three years, every tax preparer will have to be registered with the IRS, but not right now. So, find out just how qualified your preparer is.

2. Check out their credentials too with state licensing bodies (a few states, such as California and Oregon, actually have specific regulations for tax preparers). And ask them for verifiable references.

3. Establish who is actually going to do the work — the preparer or an assistant down the line? Unqualified preparers often miss key deductions.

4. Ask if they would represent you in the event of an audit or other review. This may turn out to be important — and will also give you an idea about how reputable and confident they are in their own abilities.

5. Get an upfront quotation on their fees. Usually they charge by the hour — and also find out how many hours they expect to spend. Don’t work with a preparer who offers to work for a percentage of your refund.

6. Monitor how much detail they ask for. If they don’t want to see receipts or scrutinize income and expenditure, they’re not doing their job.

7. Beware of scaremongers — preparers who try to persuade you it’s unsafe to take legitimate deductions — and very aggressive preparers. You likely want a tax preparer who will take all the legitimate deductions available, but no more.

And remember, as we said above, you are ultimately responsible for what goes on your tax form. So check every line before you sign off on it.

That’s a wrap. Good luck with your 2009 tax preparations, follow our simple guidance, check out the irs.gov site — and stay tax scam free!

Olivia: As they say, “Truth is stranger than fiction.” I say, “Some people are more stupid than one can imagine.” Ah…but it makes life so interesting and funny, doesn’t it?

A good article Ruth. Obesity is a huge problem. Doug was funning with me when I didn’t finish my dinner one night awhile ago, “There are starving people in China,” he said. I came back with, ‘Yeah and there are fat people in America.”  He burst out laughing saying he wished he had said that when he was a kid and his parents made the same comment to him when he didn’t finish his dinner.

How are you? How are the girls? Hey Evelyn – What’s happening with you?

Emily: Another cute one.

Knowing as little as I know of you Mike, I still somehow don’t think so.

Wayne: That is a great observation.

  1. Health Info Says:

Tired All the Time? It Could Be Anemia

    Shersten Killip, MD
    University of Kentucky

There are many types of anemia, but the most common form is iron deficiency anemia. Women usually are the ones diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia.

Anywhere from 9% to 12% of non-Hispanic white women have it, and nearly 20% of black and Mexican-American women have it. About 2% of adult men have iron deficiency anemia.

It occurs when the body does not get enough iron as a result of nutritional deficiencies or because you are bleeding somewhere in your body, most likely your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Such bleeding may be due to colon cancer, infection, ulcers, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhoids or regular aspirin use.

Symptoms of iron deficiency anemia include fatigue, weakness, dizziness, shortness of breath, feeling cold in your fingers and toes, headaches, chest pain and blood in the stool.

If you have any of these symptoms, see your doctor. If he/she suspects internal bleeding, usually an endoscopy or colonoscopy is required to find the origin of the bleeding. The endoscopy would involve an examination of the esophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine. A colonoscopy examines the entire large intestine.

If no disease is detected, patients are prescribed iron supplements and usually retested in several months. Patients also may be advised to increase their intake of iron-rich foods, which include raisins, meat (liver is the best source), fish, poultry, eggs, legumes and whole-grain bread.

Bottom Line/Personal interviewed Shersten Killip, MD, associate residency director and assistant professor of medicine in the department of family and community medicine at University of Kentucky in Lexington. She coauthored a study on iron deficiency anemia for American Family Physician.

  2. Mike Says:

Now the republicans are trying to use abortion to stop the “blue grass democrats” from voting for health care. I’m from the South and I recognize when whites are using an issue to say to other whites “I’m no nigger lover.”

That is really what being a “blue grass democrat” means. Some whites will use any excuse to stay aligned with other whites. I do it subconsciously sometimes myself.

Here is the bullshit they are emailing.

??PETITION to STOP ABORTION-FUNDING IN OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE TAKEOVER. Please select, sign, and WE WILL FAX your petition (even if you already signed before), to all 52 “Blue-Dog” House Democrats and all 100 Senators, right away (saving you hours of labor!) We’ve already sent approximately 420,000 faxes, can you help us reach 500,000? ??LEADER BOEHNER REBUKES OBAMA OVER ABORTION FUNDING, NEEDS HELP.??House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) rebuked President Obama over abortion at the “health” care summit last Thursday, saying “for 30 years we’ve had a law that says there will be no taxpayer funding of abortion. This bill, that we have before us, for the first time in 30 years allows for the taxpayer funding of abortions.” Obama’s new version 2.0 actually increases abortion funding above and beyond the massive increase already in Harry Reid’s Senate version of the bill.  Boehner also issued a written request to include Congressman Bart Stupak (D-

MI) in the discussions, but Obama refused to include Stupak, or even speak to him since September, as punishment for how Stupak led a House amendment last fall that would have significantly reduced Obama’s abortion funding.  Obama bristled that he and Boehner/Stupak “profoundly disagree” about whether tax-dollars should fund child-killing.??House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Tuesday that the abortion dispute cannot be resolved in the companion bill Democrats plan to use to settle the main differences between the House and Senate.  In other words, she plans to ram the massive Harry Reid Senate amended version of H.R. 3590 (which already passed with 60 votes) through the House without any changes, then use “reconciliation” in a later companion bill to amend minor budgetary items, leaving the vast Senate abortion funding untouched, bypassing Stupak’s amendment by arm-twisting moderate Democrats to first pass Reid’s plan as-is.??But Obama thinks even more abortion funds are needed.  The National Right To Life Committee revealed Obama’s hidden “reconciliation” abortion fund-increase in their analysis of the new White House proposal, which will become Pelosi’s companion bill:  “None of President Obama’s proposed changes diminish any of the sweeping pro-abortion problems in the Senate bill.  And he actually proposes to increase the funds that would be available to directly subsidize abortion procedures [with $11 Billion for Community Health Centers like Planned Parenthood] and to subsidize private health insurance that covers abortion (through the premium- subsidy tax credits program).” ??Boehner, Stupak, NRLC, and babies need help.  Our petitions can change history…??SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL ??Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council also condemned Obama’s new plan: “It also calls for $11 billion for community health centers with no restrictions on funding abortions, [can you say Planned Parenthood?] mandates so-called ‘preventative’ services for women including abortion, reauthorizes the Indian Health Act without abortion funding restrictions, and creates a national plan run by the Office of Personnel Management to contract with plans that include abortion.” ??But the good news was confirmed by Newsweek.com’s analysis (repeating what I’ve been saying for three months), that a handful of the 37 moderate House Democrats led by Stupak can stop the entire Obamacare bill, because it funds massive increases abortion with our tax-dollars.  ”What matters now is how large that ‘unclear number of Democrats’ is, how many representatives will oppose the Democrat’s compromise bill because of softer abortion language,” said Newsweek.com.  ”If we’re talking Stupak and one or two other members of Congress, then the Democrats are probably safe. But if the ranks of Stupak-followers reach into low double digits, Pelosi may have a serious threat on her hands. When we know more of the numbers, we’ll better understand whether they will pose a threat to health-care reform moving forward.”  ??While Newsweek doesn’t know the head-count, we do. And YOU can influence them.??SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL??10 – 12 OF THESE 37 CONGRESSMEN CAN STOP TAX-FUNDED ABORTIONS??Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI) told the New York Times that he and 10 or 12 unnamed “blue-dog” Democrats will try to sink the entire bill, unless their partially pro-life demands are met. But we know their names, and we’re not yet satisfied of their commitment to follow Stupak. We’ve identified 36 supposedly moderate democrats and 1 Republican who pretends he’s a Democrat (names below) who voted WITH STUPAK to reduce abortion funding, but then also voted WITH PELOSI to pass socialism in H.R. 3692.  We need just a handful of these 37 to switch votes and stand firm against President Obama and Harry Reid’s pro-abortion amendments. If they stand firm against abortion, we can stop the entire socialist “health” bill in its tracks. ??Please make time today to call the 37 Congressmen listed below at 202-225-3121 or 202-224-3121 and tell each “you are not pro-life unless you oppose entirely President Obama and Harry Reid’s pro-abortion amendments, and we are watching your vote.”  Or if you don’t have time to make 37 calls, you can save time by simply signing our fax-petiton, and WE WILL FAX your petition to all 52 “Blue-Dog” Democrats…??WE NEED JUST A HANDFUL OF THESE 37 CONGRESSMEN TO SWITCH.  PLEASE CALL ALL 37 TODAY:   Baca, Berry, Bishop (GA), Cao, Cardoza, Carney, Cooper, Costa, Costello, Cuellar, Dahlkemper, Davis (IL), Donnelly (IN), Doyle, Driehaus, Ellsworth, Etheridge, Kanjorski, Kaptur, Langevin, Lipinski, Lynch, Oberstar, Obey, Ortiz, Perriello, Pomeroy, Rahall, Reyes, Rodriguez,  Ryan (OH),  Salazar,  Snyder,  Space,  Spratt,  Stupak, Wilson (OH) …Call 202-225-3121 (or 224-3121) asking for each, 37 times, and tell them to vote against Harry Reid’s “health” amendment to H.R.3590. ??Don’t have time to make 37 phone calls? Simply SIGN OUR FAX-PETITION and we will fax your petition to all 52 “Blue-Dog” Democrats automatically. ?

Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com the health care summit is a great time for Obama to retreat on his demand to fund abortions: ”So in this new conciliatory mode, if he ignores the 80-percent consensus opposing abortion coverage in healthcare, the most intractable and divisive issue thus far, he reveals what many have suspected from the beginning – that abortion ideology is more precious to this president than his top domestic priority.”  So let’s help de-fund child killing, right now…??SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL??Despite Scott Brown’s (R-MA) victory as Senator-elect from Massachusetts, leading Democrats were quick to dismiss the voice of the people and promised to push ahead by funding abortion with our tax dollars.  Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), who forced her pro-abortion funding scheme with Senator Ben-Nelson (D-NE) into H.R. 3590, defended her own victory over pro-life advocates, stating “it’s only an ‘accounting procedure’ that will do nothing to restrict [abortion] coverage.”  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi likewise thumbed her nose at the voters’ strong anti-Obamacare rebuke in Massachusetts.  ”Let’s remove all doubt,” Pelosi told reporters in San Francisco the week of Brown’s election. “We will have health care – one way or another.  Certainly the dynamic would change depending on what happen[ed] in Massachusetts, just the question about how we would proceed,” Pelosi added. “But it doesn’t mean we won’t have a health care bill.”   Make no mistake, pro-abortion forces still control Congress, the Senate, and the White House, and vow to aggressively ram their “tax-and-kill” agenda against the voters will.??Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) caved in to pressure from the White House, and broke his pledge to “draw a line in the sand” against abortion funding, by instead reaching a compromise with pro-abortion Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to fund some elective abortions with our tax-dollars.  According to the Washington Post, Nelson bargained for extra Medicaid money for Nebraskans, and an accounting-scheme that citizens choosing the abortion option in their subsidized “health” care plans must write separate checks for abortion co-pays.  Senator Boxer admits not getting the total abortion funding she wanted, but Boxer claimed victory over the more conservative Stupak-Pitts version of the house bill that would prohibit tax-funding for all abortions except life of the mother, or familial or forced impregnation. ??Politico reported Congressman Stupak (D-MI) is working behind the scenes to block the Nelson-Boxer compromise, and kill the entire bill when it comes to the House this week, and has issued the statement below.  Since the House only passed their bill by two votes last year, we have a realistic chance to stop the entire measure in the House, if we swing just a handful of the 52 “Blue Dog” Democrats to vote against the Nelson-Boxer compromise.  WE ARE NOT DONE FIGHTING YET.??SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL?

Congressman Bart Stupak issued the following statement about the Nelson-Boxer compromise:  ”While I appreciate the efforts of all the parties involved, especially Senator Ben Nelson, the Senate abortion language is not acceptable.  A review of the Senate language indicates a dramatic shift in federal policy that would allow the federal government to subsidize insurance policies with abortion coverage.  Further, the segregation of funds to pay for abortion is another departure from current policy prohibiting federal subsidy of abortion coverage.”  Stupak is now asking for help to lobby his fellow Blue-Dog Democrats in the House to stop the bill entirely.

Please call both your Senators and your Congressman today at 202-224-3121 today and tell them “You are not pro-life unless you filibuster abortion, and oppose and filibuster the entire Obama-Reid plan to kill children with our tax-dollars. Abortion isn’t health care.”

Then please join our fax-campaign, and we will fax your petition to all 100 Senators and all 52 “Blue-Dog” Democrats…WE ONLY NEED A HANDFUL OF THE 52 BLUE-DOGS TO STAND THEIR GROUND, AND WE CAN STOP THE ENTIRE BILL!

SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL

Last year the full Senate voted down 54-45 on Senator Nelson (D-NE) and Hatch (R-UT)’s proposed “long-shot” amendment to prohibit most abortion funding in the Harry Reid “Obamacare” Health Care Bill, but it required 60 votes to overcome Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA)’s filibuster.  Boxer refused, and bullied Sen. Nelson into a compromise that was not close to the Stupak language adopted by the House of Representatives on November 7 by a vote of 240 to 194.  Although I do not personally endorse the Stupak legislation because it still funds child-killing in the rare cases of familial or forced impregnation, the  Nelson-Boxer compromise is far worse, and would fund elective abortions by gutting the Hyde Amendment which has barred federal funding for abortion in Medicaid and all other federally funded health-care programs since 1977. Yet aggressive pro-abortion Democrats remain eager to kill even the old Hyde Amendment, which no longer fully applies to the proposed “Obamacare” plan offered by Harry Reid.  But WE HAVE A PLAN….

We have a very short time to act, but either way, we have a back-up strategy that can kill the entire socialist health care bill.  ALL WE NEED ARE A HANDFUL OF “BLUE-DOG” DEMOCRATS TO STAND THEIR GROUND.  So please join our fax campaign to all 100 Senators and all 52 “Blue-Dog” House Democrats, to completely remove abortion funding from the “health” care bill, or vote it down entirely to defeat.  WE STILL HAVE A REALISTIC CHANCE OF VICTORY.
SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL??Over 50 young people prayed with me in Washington DC during our all-night “27 hours of Prayer” vigil on the West Lawn of the Capitol Sunday night, with national pro-life leaders like Pat Mahoney and Chris Slattery, and we prayed specifically that abortion funding would be struck from the President’s health care bill.  ??Time Magazine confirmed: “Under the [Senate] plan, like the House plan, certain individuals would get government subsidies to help buy private insurance in a publicly-established exchanges. There would be a guaranteed choice in each health insurance exchange between at least one plan that does not offer abortion services beyond life [of the mother, or familial or forced impregnation], and at least one plan that does, allowing consumers to choose their preference.”  Senator Nelson’s compromise did not significantly change this.??In other words, if you couldn’t afford an abortion yesterday, it will be free tomorrow, so long as you simply choose the right plan and $12 co-pay, tax-payers will fund your abortion, even elective abortions of convenience, above and beyond the also-funded cases of familial or forced impregnation.  Ironically President Obama will sign a bill that fulfills Margaret Sanger’s racist vision to exterminate poor children, many of whom will be African-American, through abortion. ??By creating an “accounting scheme” child-killing providers must pretend “to segregate funds internally, so that only private dues, and not federal subsidies, pay for actual abortion services,” but they are not required to increase the co-pay, so the abortion is essentially free to the young woman who receives federal dollars to electively kill her child, or costs the same as any other doctor’s office visit.??SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL??Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) issued an apology after his outburst, “you lie,” toward President Obama during his health care speech to Congress on Wednesday.  ”I let my emotions get the best of me,” Wilson said in a statement. “I extend sincere apologies to the president.”  We commend Wilson for his quick humility.  But questions remain:  ??Did Obama tell lies during the speech?  Was Wilson right after all?  And why doesn’t Obama apologize just as quickly for calling conservatives liars?  In their fact-checking, the press confirmed FIVE WHOPPERS told by the President himself:  ??OBAMA LIE #1: “No federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.”  ??THE TRUTH:  Obama’s plan will likely mirror Harry Reid’s amendment to HR 3590 which has a Section that reads: “Abortions for Which Public Funding Is Allowed. — The services described in this subparagraph are abortions for which the expenditure of Federal funds appropriated for the Department of Health and Human Services is permitted.”  The Washington Times reported:  ”You can’t get more explicit than that.”  And FactCheck.org exposed Obama’s lie too:  ”Despite what Obama said, the House bill would allow abortions to be covered by a federal plan and by federally subsidized private plans.”  So President Obama lied, plain and simple.  ??OBAMA LIE #2: “I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits either now or in the future. Period.”    ??THE TRUTH:  The Democrat controlled Congressional Budget Office said Obamacare would add $220 billion to the deficit over 10 years, but will not succeed at shrinking the overall costs of our nation’s health care.  Republicans claim it’s more like $600 billion increased deficit spending.  (Confirmed by Associated Press, 9 Sep 09.)  Either way, Obama lied.    ??OBAMA LIE #3: “Don’t pay attention to those scary stories about how your benefits will be cut…That will never happen on my watch. I will protect Medicare.”    ??THE TRUTH:  The Washington Post reports Obama proposes “to squeeze more than $500 billion out of the growth of Medicare over the next decade….[which has] fueled fears that his effort to expand coverage to millions of younger, uninsured Americans will damage elder care. As a result, barely one-third of seniors support a health-care overhaul, several polls found.” (Washington Post, 9 Aug 09)  Even the Post admits, Obama lied.  ??SELECT HERE TO SIGN PETITION, AND WE WILL FAX ALL 37 UNDECIDED DEMS, ALL 52 “BLUE-DOG” HOUSE DEMOCRATS, AND ALL 100 SENATORS, TO COMPLETELY REMOVE ABORTION FUNDING FROM THE HEALTH CARE BILL??OBAMA LIE #4:  ”If you lose your job or change your job, you will be able to get coverage.” ??THE TRUTH:  Whether working or not, rich or poor, you will be ordered to get mandatory government-run health-care coverage, or pay a fine a $3800 fine per family, under the new Senate plan being railroaded through the finance committee by Max Baucus (D-MT).  (New York Times, 9 Sep 09).  Obama pretends you’re “able” to get coverage, when he knows it’s mandatory (with a big tax increase or “fine” penalty).  Obama lied.  But the biggest of all…  ??OBAMA LIE #5:  ”The claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens, such a charge would be laughable if it weren’t so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.”    [Note that Obama accused us of lying, first.]  ??THE TRUTH:   Money incentives for “end of life” counseling in Pelosi’s HR 3962 included pressuring counseling to the elderly, giving doctors a monetary incentive to persuade you to sign a “do not resuscitate” (DNR) order to pull the plug on Grandma, just like the Obama administration already pressures all Veterans to sign them.  (Confirmed by the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal, read extensive details at www.prayinjesusname.org.)  And under the British NHS government-run health plan, “Patients with terminal illnesses are being made to die prematurely under an NHS scheme to help end their lives, leading doctors have warned.”  (The Daily Telegraph, 2 Sep 09).  Dr. Ewing Cook just admitted intentionally killing patients who signed DNR authorizations during Hurricane Katrina.  ”I gave her medicine so I could get rid of her faster…there’s no question I hastened her demise.”  Bottom line: Grandma, don’t sign Obama’s DNR order, even if your doctor gets a bonus check from the President for talking you into that.   ??Obama lied at least five times during his speech.  Congressman Wilson was right after all.  ??ABC NEWS VIDEO:  John Stossel destroys Obamacare by explaining Socialism.

Why all the concern suddenly about Guam’s communication network. Any Ideas Howie?
    ========================
TeleGuam to invest USD10m in network in 2010

Telecoms operator GTA TeleGuam has announced plans to spend about USD10 million on 2010 in its integrated communications network in Guam to better position itself for intensifying competition on the island. According to Enhanced Online News, the company will invest the funds in the expansion of its third-generation mobile infrastructure as well as in increasing coverage of its digital television service. ‘By continuing to make smart investments in our network, GTA TeleGuam will continue to lead the introduction of innovative and affordable communications products and services that customers expect today,’ Rolando S. Certeza, executive vice president of sales and marketing for GTA TeleGuam commented, adding, ‘Right now, we are the number-three cellular company and the number-two pay television provider in terms of customers, but our speed and nimbleness in serving our customers is fueling our competitive growth and success.’

In the five years since it was privatised in 2005, GTA TeleGuam has invested nearly USD75 million to help reposition itself from a government-run local telephone company to a competitive integrated communications provider. As well as pay-TV and wireless telephony, the operator offers fixed voice and DSL internet services, and is currently upgrading and modernising its copper and fibre cable networks. Based in Tamuning in Guam, GTA TeleGuam is a privately owned and locally managed company, with California-based private equity firm Shamrock Capital Advisors and infrastructure, finance and media company GE providing financial backing.

Naval Training to The South of Guam & Target Practice To the North This Coming Week

Guam – The Navy will conduct training south of Guam in Warning Area-517 on Thursday, March 11, from 6:30-9:15 a.m. and next Saturday, March 13, from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. W-517 supports surface and aerial gunnery, missiles, and laser exercises. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank.

The general public especially fisherman, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are advised to stay clear from these areas during the times and dates indicated.

In addition, the Navy and Air Force will be zeroing in on the island of Farallon de Medinilla on Tuesday, March 9, from 7:45 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and from Wednesday through Saturday, March 10-13, from 7:45 a.m.-10:30 p.m.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants. Farallon de Medinilla plays a special and unique role in national defense because its location provides access frequency that supports established training requirements. In addition, the air and sea space in the Farallon provides sufficient room for the many different attack profiles necessary to replicate training opportunities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

They use camera openly and boldly to record the license plates of the cards of my visitors and they follow some of them.

The government is using these terror tactics to silence us and dry up our information sources. I refuse to be cowered.

This discussion about the Rove book is being discussed as if no crimes were committed by the characters he and the Bush administration.

The white media is discussing it by saying it is the past. Does this remind you of previous atrocities.

The Bush administration is guilty of high crimes and white america is looking the other way. They are whining about the death of 3,000 twin tower victims when the bush administration sent 5,000 of our young men and women to their death with this phony war.

Let’s not forget they murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent arabs, men, women and children in that war Rove has written about.

It is disgusting that he made money waging the war and now he is making money telling us how he tricked us into the war.

There is definitely two different justices systems operating with impunity in this country.

One for white men and one for the rest of us.

    House Passes Jobs Bill

    Friday, March 5, 2010
House Passes the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act
This week, the House took another step forward to create jobs and strengthen our economy with the passage of the HIRE Act by a vote of 217-201. Getting Americans back to work is our number one priority, and with $15 billion in critical investments, the HIRE Act builds on the success of the Recovery Act to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs.

This bill includes a payroll tax holiday for businesses that hire unemployed workers to create some 300,000 jobs, an income tax credit of $1,000 for businesses that retain these employees, and additional tax cuts to spur new investment by small businesses. The HIRE Act also extends the Highway Trust Fund, allowing for tens of billions of dollars in infrastructure investment, and makes it easier for states to borrow for other infrastructure projects, such as school construction and energy projects.

Congresswoman Pelosi greets Police Chief George Gascón and a new cadet hired with
Recovery Act funds for San Francisco.

The HIRE Act builds on the foundation of economic recovery laid by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Congress passed one year ago. On Wednesday, we learned that America’s manufacturing base grew for the seventh straight month, and it is now at its highest level in five years. Today, the Department of Labor released a report showing that the unemployment rate is holding steady at 9.7 percent. The report is cautious evidence that America’s businesses are gaining confidence and that the Recovery Act continues to restore strength in key sectors of our economy.

In December, the House passed our Jobs for Main Street Act— a broader measure for creating good-paying American jobs, paid for by redirecting TARP funds from Wall Street to Main Street. While the HIRE Act is one key element of that legislation, the House and the Senate are both committed to taking further action on additional job creation measures.

Congress will continue to act with the urgency felt by millions of families and small businesses struggling to make ends meet. While the unemployment rate held steady, we know steady isn’t good enough. We must keep fighting to reach our goal: putting Americans back to work

Please feel free to forward this information to your family and friends. To learn more about these efforts, to express your views, or to sign up for email updates, please visit my Web site.

    COULD YOUR BIFOCALS BE DANGEROUS?

Could it be that the glasses meant to help you see better actually put you in danger of a potentially fatal or disabling accident? It could, according to findings that have linked bifocals and trifocals with an increased likelihood of falls in older adults.

    WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

It’s not hard to see the root of the danger. The common vision problem called presbyopia, caused by a hardening of the lens of the eye, typically arises at around age 40. Presbyopia makes it more difficult to see images close at hand, which is why middle-aged people have difficulty reading without glasses.

If this is your only vision problem, the solution is easy — to read, you wear glasses that magnify. But for those with additional vision problems that also need correction, the usual solution is multifocal glasses or contact lenses (bifocals, trifocals or progressive lenses) — and this is where people, quite literally, run into trouble.

A growing body of research, much of it originating at the Falls and Balance Research Group at the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute in Sydney, Australia, has demonstrated that when older folks wear multifocal lenses while walking and also performing a secondary task — like reading a sign — they tend to “contact more obstacles” (as in, trip or bump into something).

The glasses focus differently for near and far, which means that the wearer’s ability to see obstacles near his/her feet gets compromised. The fact that falls are the leading cause of death from injury among older adults in the US makes this especially worrisome.

    A SIMPLE SOLUTION

Stephen Lord, PhD, laboratory director at the Falls and Balance Research Group, University of New South Wales in Australia, told me that there’s an easy solution to this problem.

People who wear multifocal glasses or contact lenses should also keep with them a pair of single-focal glasses — with a prescription for distance vision only — to wear when walking outside their homes.

Easy enough and worth doing, I think — far better to spend the money on an additional pair of glasses than on a ride in an ambulance.

  16. Doug The Main Dude Says:

    Member of Congress,
    Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the $15B for the 300,000,000 people of this country. That just might come in handy. Oh, and perhaps you might tell AIG, with a personnel of 96,000, who received $180B to give us our money back. I mean since they are asking for another $9B, and you will probably give it to them. Oh, and because they are giving bonuses on a failing company using our money…

Also, I would like to have you look further into the unemployment numbers you all keep touting. I understand you are beginning to learn from the Repugnicants on how to maipulated the mob mentality of the general public. It is rather easy as most people seem too lazy to learn information themselves, however, your unemployment numbers are incorrect. This number you tout and are basing the economic recovery on are baseless. It does not account for the millions of people that have been unemployed so long that their benefits run out. It does not take into account those that have gotten fed up with the system and cannot find employment and have given up, therefore ending their benefits through the program. it does not take into account the millions of people that were self employed, and subsequently due to the failings of YOU, Wall Street and AIG who now all have our money, and are unable to collect unemployment benefits. It does not take into account the people that have been subjected to employers reducing hours to 10-20 work weeks and who now pay using cash because the system has completely broken.

You are touting that the government will begin to employ 1.3M people for the Census. This will be minimum wage earners at 20-39 hours a week. We know this because the government won’t want to pay for health care…

I really don’t want to rain on what some might perceive as good news, but until you straighten up shop, get me my money back from yourself, Wall Street, and the failing financial institutions, none of this means shit!
