Michelle Malkin: Conservative Firebrand

May is for Malkin

She’s the subject of racist rants from left-wingers.

She has been assaulted by some of America’s nastiest political activists.

She had her home address published by progressive crazies.

She and her family moved from the D.C. area to get away from the threats.

She’s been spat on, screamed at and cursed by ever-so-tolerant liberals.

So she must be doing something right.

Its Michelle’s spirit, courage and feistiness that makes us proud to announce that May issue of Townhall features an exclusive profile and interview with this conservative warrior, written by Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey.

Michelle Malkin has been making a killing doing what she does best: exposing the corruption and lunacy of America’s liberals. And the Left can’t stop her.

Most people know her as a conservative firebrand who has written best-selling books, including “Culture of Corruption,” which dealt with the shady characters that have populated the Obama administration, and “Unhinged,” which exposed the lunacy of the Left. She has been a regular analyst and contributor on Fox News for years. Week in and week out, her columns are always among the most read on Townhall.com. And her eponymous blog reaches millions of readers.

Michelle is where she is because she’s smart, brave, intelligent and right. But she didn’t get there overnight or without sacrifice.

She knowingly puts herself in the line of fire from the far-Left day after day; gets up at 4am to make a drive to Denver just to do a morning news hit on Fox News; invested countless hours and lots of money to create one of the most popular conservative websites in the world: HotAir.com; supports American troops and paid for a trip for her and a Hot Air producer to report from Forward Operating Base Justice in Baghdad; and invests hours of research and writing (and re-writing) for her top-selling books

Oh, and she’s a mom and wife who has kept her priorities in tact.

Here’s a taste of Michelle and Ed’s conversation that you can read in the May issue:

She would hardly seem like the type who gets vulgar hate mail on a constant basis. What causes the kind of rage and calumny Michelle regularly receives, both in her in-box and in person? Her 2005 book “Unhinged” described some of the disgusting insults she regularly received during the years preceding its publication. Did her success as a pioneer in New Media soften some of the personal attacks? Not really, Michelle tells me in an exclusive interview for Townhall.

“Death threats, racial epithets and sexually explicit taunts are par for the course,” Michelle explains. “I still post an occasional â?~Hate Mail of the Day’ on my blog, but always more out of amusement than anger.”

Her impassioned opposition to Barack Obama has certainly stoked more outrage on the Left, although Michelle found herself more amused by the increased indignation of the “entitlement liberals” who demanded that she stay on the minority reservation. “If not for pioneers like Barack Obama, you wouldn’t be where you are today,” she hears from people who clearly don’t realize that Michelle has been a national figure far longer than President Obama.

“I never cease to be amazed at the claim of entitlement liberals hold over minorities, women and minority women.” She calls these eruptions of outrage “ululations of the aggrieved.”

Not all of the threats come from the Left. Michelle covered the 2008 Democratic Convention in Denver and expected to get challenged, but the most disturbing experience involved an altercation with conspiracy-theory extremist radio host Alex Jones. While attending a demonstration of “anarchist loons trying to levitate the Denver Mint,” Jones charged out of the crowd toward Michelle.

“This bug-eyed hulk came stalking up and screaming at me about how I was a threat to his First Amendment rights,” Michelle recalls. “He was spoiling for a fight with a 5-foot-2-inch, 100-pound mom; his clenched fists, bulging neck veins and spittle-flecked face were, I must say, rather disturbing.”

That and other incidents have been lessons learned for Michelle, who now carefully considers safety when conducting business. “Conservative speakers have long known they are potential targets and magnets for fame-seeking trolls,” Michelle notes. “But I won’t be covering another DNC gathering without a bodyguard, that’s for sure.”

People like Michelle Malkin need to be more than just thanked and admired by those of us on the right–they need to be held up and supported.

Readers: So…what do you think?

Brittany: I am so sorry that you and your mother were not able to view my blog on Sunday. I was disappointed too as I was looking forward to seeing everyone’s ‘six words’.

Zen Lill: That play sounds like  hoot – how fun! Happy to hear that you two enjoyed each other.

Jackie: Yes, Zen Lill is real. Why she doesn’t have an issue getting in is a mystery to me.

Doug: So, in light of what you wrote, do you think Obama should’ve nominated Wood or someone else?

Mildred: I still have to admit, I don’t know much about Kagan, nor Wood for that matter. But from what I’ve read I think she will be an asset to the court. She may not be a progressive, but she certainly isn’t a conservative, and she is a woman – those factors alone, gets me to give her a thumbs up.

Anton: Thanks for being persistent in getting in so you could give us an update. I didn’t hear about Twitter. Another reason why I love this blog: I learn so much from all of you. All I can say is if the government can have someone monitoring my blog everyday (?) they can put out the same, if not more effort, to protect the livelihood of the American people from hackers 24/7. The question is, ‘Will they?”

Gloria: :>)

With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. Thanks Michelle, It takes a woman to understand.

  2. Doug The Main Dude Says:

I certainly like the fact that Diane Wood has sat on a bench before. She has laid claim to opinions that are documented within court records. She supports Abortion rights as she has has sat on rulings in support to women prisoners and their rights to abortion, on partial birth abortions…she has shown her ability to persuade wavering justices in the middle. I do not know of any ties to Goldman Sachs, or any Wall Street executives…

MEDICAL TESTS — NO NEWS IS NOT GOOD

What a relief it is when a few days… or a week… or even several weeks go by after you’ve had an important medical test and no one has called you with results. No news is good news — right?

Not necessarily. Disconcertingly, new research has revealed that one in 14 patients who had routine blood tests or screenings were not informed of clinically significant findings. That’s right — patients were never told that their test results were abnormal.

    COMMUNICATIONS BREAKDOWN

At Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, researchers examined the medical records of 5,434 individuals aged 50 to 69 at 23 primary-care practices around the country.

They focused on patients who had had abnormal findings on at least one of 14 standard medical tests in the preceding year, searching specifically for evidence that results had not been communicated. They also asked doctors to describe their office policies for communicating test results.

Researchers discovered that the rate of failure to communicate abnormal test results exceeded 7%. Specifically, they found…

In 117 out of 1,889 significant clinical findings, doctors did not inform patients, while for an additional 18 patients, the doctors said that they had communicated results but had not documented that they had done so.

Very few of the practices reported having a specific process and rules for communicating test results to patients, and in eight practices, the policy was to tell patients that if they heard nothing, they could assume all was well.

These findings were reported in the June 22, 2009, issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

    DANGEROUS OMISSION

This is a very big deal — not learning your test results may mean that you don’t get medical care you need. It’s not an exaggeration to say, in fact, that it can put your health at serious risk by leading to delays in potentially lifesaving treatment.

After reading about this research, I spoke with patient advocate Trisha Torrey, author of You Bet Your Life: The 10 Mistakes Every Patient Makes.

She said it is important to take charge to be sure this doesn’t ever happen to you. Here is her advice for all patients getting medical tests, including blood work, imaging tests, cultures, genetic tests and anything and everything your doctor might order…

Ask to be notified of test results no matter what the findings are.

Ask when you will be notified of results. Some tests can be read immediately while others take a week or even several weeks (for instance, to grow a culture or analyze genes).

If you don’t get your results by the time you are told to expect them, don’t wait — call the office. If your results are not yet available, ask for clarification on when they will be. Reiterate that you expect to learn your results no matter what they are.

Ask how you will be notified. If it is by telephone, be specific about whether you prefer to be called at home, at your office or on your cell phone.

Ask to receive a copy of the results in the mail. This serves as your official record in case of future difficulties or misunderstandings.

In today’s overburdened health-care system, we all need to be more proactive than ever about our care. Don’t assume that you’re fine because you don’t hear back after a test — call and ask.

A WOMAN’S WEEK AT THE GYM
This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine.

    Dear Diary,
For my birthday this year, my Husband (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.

Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

Don’t quote me on this one. But I hear the government is conducting exercises on rounding up aliens that get loose into the population of Guam. I heard they would be using the premise that they were practicing dealing with a chemical attack.

I thought it was another ruse until read this.
    _____________________________________________
Guam – Don’t be alarmed if you notice soldiers running around at the former Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority housing in Dededo this week. The Guam Army National Guard’s 95th Civil Support Team is only conducting a required exercise that will help them prepare in the event that the island is faced with a chemical attack.

Guard Spokesperson Captain Ken Ola says the evaluation and training is done about every 18 months to test the troops’ technical skills in the field. “They’re the first responders for incidents like chemical and biological incidents where you may have a potential of mass impact on the population,” he stated.

The exercise will continue throughout the week.

The Right is focusing on the Net as the way to brainwash the young into accepting their propaganda and lies. Here is the pitch to their Base to give them the donations to do just that.
    ========================
    Dear Fellow Conservative:

In 2008, Barack Obama lobotomized a generation.

For an entire year, otherwise clear-thinking members of the most affluent, information-drenched generation in American history fell prey to the most expensive, hi-tech, laser-focused marketing assault in presidential campaign history.

Twitter messages were machine-gunned to cell phones at Mach speed. Facebook and MySpace groups spread across the Internet like digital fire. YouTube videos featuring celebrities ricocheted around the globe and into college students’ in-boxes with devastating regularity.

The result: An unthinking mass of young voters marched in lockstep to elect the most radical, untested President in American history.

And Jason Mattera — one of the country’s top young conservative activists, and now the editor of Human Events — saw up close how it all unfolded.

Now, in Obama Zombies: How the Obama Machine Brainwashed My Generation, Mattera reveals the true, behind-the-scenes story of the methods and tactics the Obama campaign unleashed on youth culture.

For a limited time, Human Events is making Jason Mattera’s Obama Zombies available to you absolutely FREE.

Here’s what Human Events’ legal correspondent Ann Coulter has to say about Obama Zombies:

“Jason Mattera is a national treasure. You’ve seen him ambush interview and demolish some of liberalism’s biggest names. Now he’s served our nation yet again by exposing the liberal lunatics who gave us President Obama. Piercing, eye-opening and deliciously witty, Obama Zombies is required reading for an entire generation who have been sold liberal lies.”

And here’s what Human Events columnist Michelle Malkin has to say about Obama Zombies:

“A heat-seeking missile aimed straight at the Cult of Obama. Explosive, devastating and rib-crackingly hilarious, Obama Zombies is a must-read for every citizen who cares about protecting freedom for future generations of America.”
    ===================================
Get ready for a hotly contested election featuring both parties using the net to win.

  9. Alice Says:

I tried to write about this yesterday. I feel it is so important that we take Sexting seriously that I am trying again. What is sexting.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Some teens don’t take sexting seriously. Prosecutors do.

“In addition to the criminal charges a young person may face, there is of course the possibility of being in prison for some term,” Limtiaco said. “You’ll have a criminal record … and they may end up being a registered sex offender at a young age.”

    So, what is sexting?

If a teenager or another person takes a sexually explicit photo of a minor, even themselves, and sends it to another person by e-mail or text messages, they are sexting, Limtiaco said.

That person has also committed a first-degree felony — the dissemination of child pornography — said Assistant Attorney General Basil O’Mallan.

The dissemination of child pornography was made illegal long before camera phones, texting and e-mail became commonplace, especially in the hands of teens, O’Mallan said. But the statute still applies directly to this modern, illegal act of sexting, he said.

A conviction of this crime leads to a minimum of three years in prison, he said.

A convicted sexter could also be added to a national registry for sex offenders for a decade or longer, he said. Even if a sexter pleas down to a lesser crime, they could still go on the registry.

“If we can make sure they understand all the full legal ramifications of their actions, hopefully they won’t do all the stupid things (they might otherwise do).”

If you’re 16 or older and caught sending explicit photos of yourself, You could be charged with a crime and end up being labeled a sex offender.

Shop till you drop may sound fun and funny — but compulsive overspending is no joke.

Warning signs: Hiding purchases from family… spending money when you swore you wouldn’t… falling into debt.

    To rein in spending…

Identify underlying needs that fuel your spending — then satisfy them in other ways. Want to impress people? Read up on current events and get noticed for your insights instead of your outfits. Feel lonesome? Phone a friend. Deprived? Buy a cappuccino, not a new purse.

Explore alternative activities. To surround yourself with beautiful objects, skip stores and visit an art museum instead. If you love books, try the library, not a bookstore.

Get a healthful “high.” The brief thrill of the purchase often leads to buyer’s remorse. Get regret-free joy from exercise — even just a brisk walk — which releases “feel-good” endorphins in the brain.

“Shop” in your own closets. Pull out clothes seldom worn, pictures still unhung, cosmetics never opened. Pretend you’re in the store seeing them for the first time.

Invite friends to bring their own little-used stuff and have a swap, donating leftovers to charity. You’ll clean your closets, rediscover previously purchased treasures, get new goods, feel generous — and won’t spend a cent.

Doug i like your choice of Diane Woods. I think she would make a fine Supreme Court Justice. But I like Kagan better. I like the idea that she has never served as a judge.

Sure, you could be right that we could be surprised at some of her choices to support. But I think it is worth the risk.

Have you wondered if the name Michelle Malkin sounding so much like Michelle Moquin is not just coincidental?

  13. Zen Lill Says:

HI Mischa, hmmm what’s Van inferring there huh huh huh? : ) I can’t say I know myuch about her, though I’ve heard her name for years. I’ll check out the link, I found her statement about liberals having the handle on OTW’s (including women) and interesting comment to make to back up her conservative background so I’ll find time to follow up…after all the other stuff I need to do today/this week, it’s a busy one, that’s good and bad : )

I don’t have any idea why I always get on this blog with no trouble ever, I’ve noticed that sometimes it seems like right after I comment it ocassionally opens things up or that could be coincidental, not sure. I am real though : ) thanks for asking.

    Caio for now, Zen Lill

  14. Doug The Main Dude Says:

    Caroline,
I do agree there is a different perspective as to the fact that she has not sat on the bench. I don’t like that fact because we are unsure as to her position on nearly anything, excepting what might be in the press, which we all know can be weighed to any opinion deemed necessary…Note Palin…

  15. Zen Lill Says:

I just spotted this bumper sticker:

Religion is for people who fear going to hell, spirituality is for people who have been there and back. : )

I wanted to say this about children, since six words were supposed to cover moms : ) having a kid was so much different than I thought it would be, I thought I had so much to teach her, to give to her emotionally/intellectually and pyschologically, blah blah and blah…and the truth is not that she teaches me so much (true but not my point) about parenting, the point is being this particular kids mother has thrown me into learning and knowing who I really am and taught me more me than any other party, thing or situation ever could have…and I’ve dealt with lots of ‘things’ and ‘situations’ (and ‘parties’ for that matter) – parenting may not be for everyone but I am truly glad I changed my mind, bc I was the original ZPG girl : ) (that’s zero pop growth). This little soul and I exchange personal wisdoms and not always using words, it’s a lovely and novel thing.

…and I guess we both admire a nice six pack ; ) tee hee hee

    Michelle

As long as you are real, I’m happy. You are one hot babe!

  17. Ruth Says:

The way I see it is if Eileen Kagan served as Marshall’s clerk, she must have something trustworthy going for her. And she was selected by the women behind Obama.

I’m sure they had a talk with her. It probably was no different than the one Bush had with his selections. The difference is the Left selections come with integrity.

The Bush selections were from a batch that would sell their souls for the job. Most were and still are on the take. And the core requirement that they were bigots was a given.

Even the token Negro Thomas fit the “hate I’m black” mode.

The Left selection is full of independent minds. It is difficult to force an agenda on them and they are not adverse to reveling a litmus test forced upon them.

The Right has demonstrated that they will vote to a white man on command. The republican voting record in the Senate and the four of the five “conservative” SPC justices is all the proof one needs that they are for sell.

Doug, I understand your hesitation to accept her when in the wings is Diane Wood. And given that four of the five conservative justices are the most conservative of any judges in the history of the court, perhaps you are right to insist upon a more staunchly liberal justice.

But, my nod goes to Eileen Kagan because she is 10 years younger and therefore has a chance to be on the Court longer.

    Ruth

  18. Sidney Says:

Pay no attention to Jerry. He is a cad. He is just a 19 going on 13 trying to be a playboy. He typed that on my computer after we had made love in my parents’ bed while I was cleaning up before they came home.

He read your blog because it was the last thing on my computer when he came over. I closed it and opened my heart to him. It seems the only thing he was interested in me opening was my legs.

Now that I’ve done that, the cad gets on my computer and tells you how hot you are. Men.

If he only knew I started dating him to get next to his sister. That is a HOT girl! I didn’t know I was gay until we took a shower in my pool lounge after a day at the pool.

She volunteered to wash my back and when her hand accidently slipped between my legs, I had a mini orgasm. She smiled and hugged me and said if I was more than barely legal she would introduce me to the world of woman or women. I was too excited to remember.

That was a year one month two weeks two days and 11 hours ago. She is as cruel as her brother.

    Why are men so cruel?

My three brothers and father sent my sister off to marry a man 41 years older than she is because of a debt owed to his family. I believed in Islam before I started reading your blog.

I fear I will die here. I am cripple so I am not wife material. I have been allowed to study what I wish as long as I don’t leave the compound.

I am the daughter of my father’s third wife. He has seven. The women are for the most part kept illiterate. Under islam we are but sex slaves for the men.

I live in fear of being raped because if it happens I will be put to death to save the family honor. There is no God or I would pray to Her to take me from this earth. My only pleasure is to hope to be a Girlz one day.

Do you accept cripples (I broke my leg in several places when I was six. There were on female doctors and my father refused to allow a male to treat me. So my leg had to be amputated.

Are there any one legged Girlz?

Ruth, 10 years longer can mean a lot longer timeline of retribution…that should NOT be a means to reach this decision…

Space debris has caused a tiny space ship to collide with a satellite forcing it out of it’s orbit.

By my calculations this will become more frequent in the future. Why do humans have to pollute space as they have polluted their planet?

More satellites will be forced out of their orbits as space travelers attempt to negotiate the junk humans have left in space. Therefore humans who depend on satellites for their communications better get used to interruptions.
