Wonderful Women Of The World

MSNBC knows how to say it. Or perhaps I should say, Maddow and Olbermann know how to say it. Yesterday’s post, is still on my mind. God I love good news, even if it is bad. I love when someone is so right on and honest…telling it straight up and like it should be told. Give us the facts, instead of FOX’s word salad with fact-free dressing.

Olbermann had his day yesterday. I just had to give equal time to Maddow. Why not. She definitely belongs in the category of “Wonderful Women Of The World”. Kudos to Rachel for once again, having the guts to tell it like it is, and backing it with real facts, not just some made up ones to suit one’s own believed truth. And by the way Shirley Sherrod belongs in the titled category too.

The subject? More of the same same. Racism on a roll? Well yes and no. The title below hints at the content. And if you didn’t watch Maddow the other night, it is another must-watch video that brings it all home.

Rachel Maddow: Fox News Stoking Racial Fears Among Whites (VIDEO)

Rachel Maddow tore into Fox News again Wednesday night, accusing the channel of stoking racial fears among whites.

Maddow used the channel’s role in hyping the Shirley Sherrod story as a springboard for a broader discussion of the history of using the media to pit whites against blacks in the United States. She connected Fox News’ recent pushing of the ACORN, Van Jones, Sherrod and New Black Panther Party stories to the old Southern Strategy, where conservatives played on white fears of increased black equality to gain political power.

Maddow described the messaging as:

“Be afraid, white people. There’s a threat to take you over. The black people are coming for you…and you better band together to not surrender, to fight back.

Maddow then played clips of conservative figures such as Rush Limbaugh – in this case, a clip of the radio host calling whites “the new oppressed minority” in the Obama era.

She concluded by saying that Fox News was operating almost as a political group by advancing the Van Jones, ACORN, New Black Panther Party and Shirley Sherrod stories.

“What is the same about these four ginned-up Fox News-initiated would-be scandals?” Maddow asked.

Maddow said that the stories aren’t about racism, or about targeting black people, but rather a political effort to target “white people, white voters or white would-be voters to feel afraid of black people, to feel afraid of African American people as if they are not fellow Americans but rather a threat to what white people have.

“The message is a political one, clear as a 1960 campaign-funded segregationist comic book: stand up, white people, stand up against the black threat,” she continued.

“This is a political strategy, advanced not by a news organization, but by political activists who use a cable channel as a political outlet. And they are pros at this. There’s no reason to expect them to stop doing stuff like this – unless it stops working someday.”

    Zen Lill

I sent this to you I think June 14 2009 via this blog. I and my BFFs were asking to become Girlz. Since then they have all passed away mysteriously.

I am the only one left. I did not mean to offend you. I will do anything to become a Girlz. If will jump off the highest building I can find if you tell me. I will prove to you that I really have the heart to be a Girlz.

I am not a nut. I graduated at the top of my law class. I earn a very handsome living. I have an equally full social life.

Except for the loss of 4 of my very best friends, my life is great. My request springs from a genuine belief in alien life forms.

I had an extraterrestrial experience when I was 11. It has changed my life beliefs. I am 29 years old. I would like to spend my 30th aboard a space ship headed out.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Zen Lill

I do not want to offend a Girlz. i do believe in aliens and I want to become a girlz one day. But I have to ask you why you are encouraging those to cry babies, AL and Howie? They get to say whatever they want. But when they have to hear what others think they complain. Their complaint is fashioned as if the commenter is talking only to them.

Who died and left them as the representatives or protectors of all things male? Why as a strong woman do you feel that we as women must cater to or cajole men into accepting our right to be treated as equals?

I can see the need for diplomacy if two equals are discussing issues in which they differ. As you suggested respect for each person’s point of view would be essential in that circumstance.

Men that respect women’s equality deserve and are given respect on Michelle’s blog. It is the hypocrites like Al and Howie who profess the belief in that equality that don’t get it. I am only 17 but I think that the fact that they get so mussed by what is being said by women about men is because they are not men who genuinely believe in the equality of women.

I am a black woman and my grandmother has always warned me about certain whites who proclaim loudly in the belief of the equality of OTWs. She says that if all those white men in both houses of congress believed the honeyed words they utter to please their electorates, we OTWs would be treated as equals by now.

I see this same deception in those two. If they really believed in the equality of women, they wouldn’t be so upset by their equals voicing a contrary opinion to their own. It seems we as women are their equal until our opinions are not of their liking.

Have you noticed the respect they give to George Who says the most god awful things to them. They may disagree with him, but in doing so, they don’t attack him as a person as they do Michelle. They attack his ideas or his words. That is what one does when she/he considers the person who has a different opinion an equal.

Zen Lill, I occasionally read your blog. It is not always an easy read, but it is a place a girl can go to get an opinion from a strong woman. But lately, it seems you have switched to being a woman who believes that a man is something special.

By that I mean you seem to be expressing a different point of view. One that suggests that we as women should give difference to males less they not give us our do rights and equality. You say that they control 44% of this country.

I can count. that leaves 56% of woman control. Why not encourage the women to band together and elect women to the great houses of congress and the office of President(after Obama has served his second term, of course).

Then we would not have to “change” or “show compassion until WE effect change”., Control of Congress would mean we would not have to worry about selling “the benefit” to men or be concerned with them buying it.

We could do what they have been doing for the last two centuries. We can enact laws that make it a crime to discriminate against women. We can back up those laws with people authorization to arrest and punish offenders that violate those laws. It is really that simple. Women can take control exactly the way men did.

That is what you can use that gift for writing so eloquently you have for. Use it; to motivate us women to respect each other; to encourage us to not allow men to cheat on their wives with us; to educate us on the ways men us to divide and conquer us by pitting one against the other in competition for his “affections;” and to come to the aid of women who put themselves on the line for the cause.

God gave you that gift. She had a plan. Go with it.

Michelle, you have maintained a steadfast allegiance to women of all races, religions, and backgrounds. You have encouraged us to be more than what we have been told is possible for us. You have become that woman we would like to be.

You are free from the morals that men would force us to accept. Morales that only serve to keep men in a privileged place.

Even their religions are designed to make god a male, and to put men at the top of the humans who are closest to their male god. They get to be the Popes, priests, head of the religions hierarchies of the protestant churches, and Hebrew synagogues. The chief religious cults like Islam and Mormans are about keeping women as sex slaves and pedophilia.

When one looks at the diabolical ways men use our cultures, mores and laws to keep them in control of women the world over, it is hard to argue that they are not cruel if not evil.

I may be young but I know that just because a human is born a man that doesn’t make him cruel or evil. But one can argue that if he denies that he has all these advantages because he is a man he is a hypocrite or a liar.

The same is true for white men who claim that there is no longer a privilege place that they occupy in America because they are white. I noticed that Al is often guilty of making that claim. But I will leave that situation to Robert to argue.

Robert I think you are as important to Michelle’s blog to OTWs as Michelle is to women. You state the obvious to those who would pretend that it does not exist. I study your writings so that when I get to Harvard I will be able to hold my own with those witty white boys who will use their intelligence to cleverly deny the need for Affirmative Action.

They will respond as Howie does when he says that white men never benefited from Affirmative Action. I will definitely use your definition of Affirmative Action, Robert, rather than the one whites like Howie want us to use.

I looked it up in the dictionary and the white boy wants us to think of Affirmative action as only something that has benefited OTWs. They think that if they can control the definition of the word they can control our thoughts and memories.

Thank you for pointing out so succinctly that Affirmative Action is anything a government does that gives an advantage to a group or race over another. Under that definition white men have had the exclusive use of Affirmative action for more than 150 years in America.

I will use this in my arguments when I get to Harvard during my study of law. I know that I must finish college first. I am looking forward to attending Stanford in Palo Alto, CA. My parents love bragging about their southern daughter heading to the west coast.

I have never been to California, but I can’t wait to go. I hope to meet you Michelle when I get there. I have a full scholarship so I will be living on campus. How far is it from San Francisco? Will you come to see me?

The last thing I would like to say this Sunday morning before I accompany my mother to Mass is that I don’t believe that all women are all that either.

Just because a human being is born a woman doesn’t mean that she is intelligent or that she will support her sisters. Like men it just means her sex has been determined. But unlike men it also means that she will spend her life on this planet as a second class citizen of earth.

I want that to end with my generation. I will dedicate my like to the effort.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As I said, I did not mean to offend you, I just felt that that was something that had to be said at the time.

I really hope you are not holding it against me. I would make an excellent Girlz.

I would also appreciate it if you would allow my 4 BFFs to communicate with me, if they wish.

    Dear Supporter,

It’s shameful. EWG tested 1,606 sunscreens for last week’s special report, and we found that 3 out of 5 offer inadequate protection from the sun or actually contain toxic ingredients.

Yet the federal Food and Drug Administration still refuses to hold the manufacturers accountable for their misleading advertising and dangerous products – despite more than 30 years of promises.

The manufacturers and the government aren’t looking out for your family. But EWG is.

Conducting this research to hold them accountable is the most important part of our work, but this kind of intensive laboratory testing isn’t easy and it isn’t cheap.

EWG tested leading sunscreens from name brands like Coppertone, Banana Boat, and Neutrogena, and the results were not pretty.

We discovered that, despite improvements, 42% of tested sunscreens still contained the chemical oxybenzone, shown in laboratory tests to disrupt the endocrine system and release reactive oxygen species that could contribute to skin cancer.

Overall, only 5% of the products we analyzed met EWG’s criteria for safety and effectiveness.

The FDA should be the ones protecting our families, but they have been pledging to issue final regulations for more than 30 years. We can’t wait to keep our families safe.

EWG is the only organization working night and day to hold the government and the sunscreen manufacturers accountable.

EWG’s mission is to expose the truth to protect your family’s health and to protect our environment. For 15 years, we’ve been doing the FDA’s job – publishing research that lets consumers make safe choices for their families.

Three were tracked down in central Guam and were beheaded. Two others were discovered in northern Guam and were shot.

    July 23, 2010
    Extending Unemployment Insurance
After seven weeks of Republican obstruction, on Wednesday evening, the Senate passed legislation to extend unemployment insurance (UI) benefits to millions of American families. On Thursday, the House immediately passed the extension by a vote of 272 to 152 and President Obama signed it into law.

The law extends unemployment benefits through November 30th and retroactively restores benefits to jobless Americans who may have lost their benefits as early as the end of May — some after just 26 weeks.

Republicans held up these benefits for more than seven weeks, causing an estimated 2.5 million workers and families to lose the lifeline that they have earned through their work. In addition to helping individuals make ends meet as they look for a new job, expanding unemployment benefits is one of the most cost-effective and fast-acting ways to stimulate the economy.

California’s Employment Development Department (EDD) processes all UI claims in California. UI claims can be filed online or by contacting a customer services representative by calling 1-800-300-5616. If you are having difficulty contacting an EDD representative, your local California State elected officials can assist you in obtaining additional information about your UI benefits.

    Enacting Wall Street Reform
On Wednesday, President Obama signed the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act into law, enacting the toughest set of Wall Street reforms in generations – and the strongest consumer protections in history. With this law in place, the homes, retirements, and college savings of consumers in San Francisco and across the nation will come first. These historic changes will help ensure that a future crisis does not compromise the financial security of hard-working Americans.

The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act will put an end to Bush-era taxpayer-funded bailouts, protect consumers from predatory lending abuses, fine print, and industry gimmicks, and inject transparency and accountability into a financial system run amok. This law also empowers consumers to make the best decisions on homes, credit cards, and their own financial future with a consumer financial protection agency.

    No-Stress Way to Pay Bills

    Leo Babauta

It’s amazing how people let the simple, predictable chore of paying monthly bills create so much stress, with paperwork getting lost, deadlines being missed and mad dashes to the post office.

I used to think that waiting to pay all my bills once a month was efficient and financially advantageous, since it allowed my money to sit in an interest-bearing account a bit longer each month.

Reality: Whenever you create such a “system” to simplify your life, it’s important to do what’s easiest in practice, not theory. For me, the longer a bill sits around, the easier it is to forget about or lose.

And just one late-payment penalty can negate several years of extra interest you might earn by waiting until the last minute to pay.

So now, I keep my checkbook and stamps handy and pay each new bill with the next day’s mail. It’s quick and easy — and there’s never any stress.

Bottom Line/Retirement interviewed Leo Babauta, author of The Power of Less (Hyperion). He created and runs the popular Internet blog ZenHabits (www.zenhabits.net), which has more than 137,000 subscribers and two million visitors a month. Time magazine selected the blog as one of the 25 best of 2009. Babauta lives with his wife and six children in Guam.

Oops! But wait, I also seem to recall the Senate Majority Leader–Dingy Harry–musing about Barack’s light skin and absent “Negro dialect,” don’t you? Where were the NAACP toolbags then? For that matter, where are the resolution-happy members of this group condemning the billy club-wielding, paramilitary-wearing dudes from the New Black Panther Party?

    Coffee, tea and heart health

Love your morning cup? It’s loving you right back, because a new study finds that people who drink the most coffee and tea enjoy some terrific heart benefits.

In fact, coffee and tea drinkers are much less likely to suffer from heart disease than those who don’t drink either.

The 13-year study of more than 37,000 people in the Netherlands was the largest of its kind, and it found that tea offered the biggest heart boost: Those who drank between three and six cups per day enjoyed a 45 percent lower risk of death from heart disease than those who drank less than one cup a day.

Those who drank more than six cups a day had a 36 percent lower risk of heart disease.

And if you prefer java, the study in the Journal of the American Heart Association has some good news for you, too: Drinking between two and four cups of coffee a day can lower your risk of heart disease by up to 20 percent.

Forget love at first sight–this one is love at fourth cup.

Even better, drinking coffee and tea was all gain and no pain. The researchers say those who drank these delicious beverages had no increased risk of other diseases or premature death–just terrific heart benefits.

There’s a lot of good news in this study–but one thing that’s missing from it is the element of surprise, because coffee and tea have been linked to heart health before. Coffee and tea also share something else, and not just a big, warm mug: They can lower your risk of diabetes.

Coffee may also lower your risk of prostate cancer, Parkinson’s disease, liver disorders, skin cancer and gallstones. One study even found that coffee drinkers have fewer cavities.

But if you’d rather sip tea than coffee, don’t worry– you’ll get your share of benefits, too. Polyphenol-rich green tea has been linked to everything from cardiovascular health and cancer prevention to longer lives.

Now that’s something worth filling your mug for.

Of course this could be a plant by the coffee industry

No, I was not aware of that fact but I was of this one and it also occurred in the month of July.

Lara, I’m sorry I didn’t catch your comments originally, why wait a year to ask about it…? I don’t cater or cajole nor do I act strong all the time, I may suffer from trying to be diplomatic but lately I’m pretty tired of that role also. I love and respect some men which is why I give some benefit of the doubt to all till they prove me wrong (doesn’t take that long to spot that) and I love and respect some women though there are many who don’t stand by other women. I dug Al and Howie and treated them like my personal Woody Allen’s : ) bc they were quirky enough to deserve my blog affection. I personally feel that putting men in the wrong when we haven’t just snagged the 56% power is just ineffective and won’t get us what we want. Why rail them let’s just snag what’s ours and be done with all the males that can’t see the light. Some men are good and can stay but if we even are expecting them to fight our fight I think that’s a moot point. Let’s just empower women bc when we do we empower the world. Mischa is the cmsnder and conduit to the Tao for the purposes of being a girlZ I have no say in the matter, just busy being me Zen Lill, a girlZ.
I’m sorry all 4 of your bffs passed away, I cannot imagine such a thing.
Good luck to you, Zen Lill
