Oceanographic Sensor Installed in Cetti Bay

Guam – NOAA’s Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS) has completed the installation of the first Guam oceanographic sensor package in Cetti Bay.

This sensor array has already begun taking water quality measurements including temperature, salinity, turbidity, pressure, and chlorophyll concentrations and will soon stream the data in real-time over the internet.

“We hope that this sensor array will help the people of Guam monitor changes in water quality that result from watershed restoration projects,”said Jason Biggs, assistant professor of Biology at UOG and PacIOOS Guam representative.  “This is the first of many systems PacIOOS hopes to deploy in Guam over the coming years.”

UOG Sea Grant and PacIOOS seek input on needs for future sensor deployment in Guam and the other US territories in the insular Pacific.

PacIOOS is the Pacific regional component of the larger National Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) and is being run in partnership?with the University of Guam and Hawai’i Sea Grant College Programs and the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology.  In addition to water?quality, PacIOOS measures variables in the coastal waters of the insular Pacific related to coastal hazards, ocean circulation, and ecosystem?health and diversity.

“The University of Guam Sea Grant College Program invite all interested persons to join us during the second Guam PacIOOS Stakeholders’ Workshop, which will be held in the UOG College of Natural and Applied Sciences CNAS) room 127, from 11 am to 4 pm, on July 22, 2010,” said Biggs. For more information please contact the Guam PacIOOS Liaison, Dr. Jason S. Biggs (UOGML),or visit www.pacioos.org.

Your Government: I said that I would get back to you about the trench. I’m getting back to you. I don’t know shit about the trench.

Peter: I’m sure you have something to say about my write today. In regards to yesterday, it is really a shame. I HOPE that with the help of the park, these birds will be able to be removed from the endangered list and be able to be returned to their homes. Of course the brown tree snake issue needs to be rectified too. Hafa adai.

Anonymous: Cute.

Lara: Believe me you can’t rush destiny – I have tried. She takes her dear old time. :) Try to be patient and enjoy your life here – Life is a beautiful, rich, exciting journey, not a means to an end. I have no doubt you being here on Earth is a very good thing for now; for you, for many. Keep doing what you’re doing and know that it matters. :)

Wayne: Hmm…interesting. I am assuming that is your life experience. I am sorry that it is that way for you. Maybe the ones that don’t go away are the ones that have the most to teach.

Aalberts: Yeah I remember flying somewhere used to be easy, fun, and reasonable. Now you have to show up hours early, wait in lines, small bag or pay extra – no liguids, and beg for peanuts – literally. Thanks for posting. We get nothing, and now we even pay for things we got for free before,  and the corps are keeping all of the profits – where are our bennies? In their pockets of course.

Anonymous: I think the princess will want to make up for the lost ardor.

Bob: Another cute one.

That’s it for me. Happy Monday. I HOPE that it is the beginning of a brilliant week. Peace out.

  4. Health Info Says:

ACCIDENTAL ADDICTS — 5% OF SENIORS ABUSE DRUGS

Drug abuse isn’t just a young people’s problem — and it doesn’t just involve recreational drugs. In fact, chances are good that you know someone who is secretly a drug abuser — most likely someone over age 50 who is addicted to prescription drugs. The problem can be hard to spot unless you know the signs.

In fact, according to a new government report, about 4.3 million Americans over age 50 are drug abusers, and this number is expected to double by 2020. While it is true that many are ex-hippies who never stopped smoking pot or using other illicit drugs, many other middle-aged and senior drug abusers slid into their habits unwittingly.

And for a variety of reasons, these “accidental addicts” may be in even greater danger than the aging groovesters, in part because they might not even realize that they are addicted… nor be aware of the very serious risks.

    JUST SAY NO?

The older we get, the more sensitive our bodies are to drugs, notes Ihsan M. Salloum, MD, a professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and chief of its division of alcohol and drug abuse.

So as you age, it’s better to completely avoid potentially addictive drugs such as certain pain killers, sleeping pills and antianxiety medications.

If you must take them to recover from surgery or to get through a stressful period, keep it short-term — meaning take as low a dose as you can for the least time possible.

Dr. Salloum and I chatted about the special challenges drug abuse poses in an aging population.

Prescription drug abuse often begins when a doctor prescribes an antianxiety benzodiazepine (such as alprazolam/Xanax) to help a patient relax or an opioid pain medication (such as oxycodone/OxyContin) following major surgery, such as a hip or knee replacement.

Use of such drugs over long periods can develop into tolerance (when your body adapts to a drug and you need larger and larger doses to achieve the same effect) or addiction — especially in those with a genetic predisposition or personal history of substance abuse.

    SERIOUS RISKS

Dr. Salloum warns that older people in particular face a variety of increased risks from drugs, whether they are illicit or prescribed…

    • Older people metabolize drugs differently — the kidneys and liver don’t function as effectively, so the drugs remain in the system longer.

    • Other age-related changes (such as lower levels of lean body mass) mean that drugs affect older people differently across the board, making them more sensitive to the effects of drugs.

    • Drug-to-drug interactions are more common in older people. If you have multiple chronic diseases, you likely take multiple medicines. The more drugs you take, the greater the chance of dangerous interactions.

    • More prone to falls already, older people are more likely to be dangerously injured when they tumble. If age has already left you a bit unsteady, side effects of drugs may easily worsen balance and cause a fall.

    • Older people are more likely to have heart attacks or strokes caused by medications. Stimulants, in particular, are more likely to cause heart attacks or strokes in older people.

RECOGNIZING AND COPING WITH A PROBLEM

The line between use and abuse can be a fine one, but generally speaking, addiction is what you call it when you lose control over the use of a substance and/or it begins to interfere with daily life. Signs to watch for in yourself or someone close to you include …

    • Missing professional, financial or social obligations.
    • Changes in personality or behavior.
    • Neglecting personal hygiene or appearance.
    • Irritability and restlessness.
    • Driving under the influence or getting into accidents.
    • Preoccupation with getting and using a drug, and inability to stop using it.

    • Feeling that you need the drug to deal with your problems.
If you suspect that you have become dependent on any drug, visit your primary care doctor and share your concern –

he/she can help you evaluate the problem and assess what can and should be done from a medical perspective. You can also learn more, for yourself or to help a friend or loved one, by visiting Web sites such as…

I know that it is not any doing of yours but it has been so difficult to post to your blog. When I eventually get in I wish to thank you for your kind words. I received a message from one of my BFFs. She said that they were safe and very happy. It has changed my life.

Frankly, my mind had been in doubt about what had really happened. On the one hand it could have been that they could have died the separate individual deaths in the accidental manner (one died of cancer on the operation table) in which their deaths happened. But I chose to believe that they were taken aboard space ship. I could have been insane.

Kathy made it clear to me that she nor the others were not dead. She said that it was difficult to view earthlings in the same manner once they donned suits and that though we had made a pact to contact any remaining one(s) that were not taken, it proved difficult to do because none received cyborgs to replace them on earth.

They had chosen not to. This choice prevented them from contacting anyone on earth. But everything changed because she had been rescued from a space accident that occurred about a year ago. They had been traveling in a solar system about three over from earths for Madaline.

They suffered a collision with several huge asteroids that struct their vessel as they were attempting to avoid being pulled into the orbit of a planet’s gravitational pull. The trajectory they chose to escape in put them directly in the path of debris from an exploding star that did not make it to a Sun.

The blast, speed and power of asteroids were more powerful than thousands of nuclear bombs. When it hit their ship. The port side that she and 2300 others were on separated from the mother ship and they were catapulted into deep space.

Their suits instantly when into survival mode for their occupants and as they were separated from the compartments of their craft and being hurled into the unknown, beacons containing their vectors were being broadcast and left floating in nano nodules to be discovered by any craft operating on their frequencies.

I will sum up her story by saying that she and all 2300 of the girlz were discovered and rescued a year and 3 earth month later on a planet similar to our Venus in a solar system with a planet similar to earth except that that earth had two Suns.

She also told me something else interesting about that planet similar to our earth. She said that the USA there had not been conquered by whites. The American Indian was the dominant race in that America. It was still called America in honor of the man who united all the American Indians into a nation of one people.

There were no blacks in America that were citizens as a result of slavery because there was no history of slavery in the USA. Oh, and she said that there were two USAs in the United Nations. The United States of America and the United States of Africa.

The two USAs were the dominant powers on the planet. The planet had never experienced a world war and that whites played a very minimal part in the planet’s history. She said that she spent nine months on the planet as a hawk. She said she stowed aboard one of that earth’s ships that was trading with the occupants on the planet Venus. But when she arrived on earth it was so beautiful and her memories of earth caused her to tear. She said that the experience made her want to explore as much of it as she could, so she ordered her suit to transform her into a hawk.

One of the protective elements of their suits allowed them to morph into some indigenous from of life sustaining planets that their suits pulled them into to preserve their lifeforms.

She said since she was free of the huge mental difference between her new mind and her earth mind, her thoughts of me resurfaced and she remembered our pact with a different emotional vent and she was determined to not allow me to suffer mentally as she new she would have had our circumstances been different.

So she set in place a set of events to occur should be be rescued and be returned to Madaline’s service. She said I would absolutely love being in that service and she had no regrets. Even the 15 months she experienced after the explosion were so exciting as to be unbelievably gratifying.

She made it clear to me that she was who she said she was and she took me for a short ride in the stars. Permission to do this was granted by a Roi. He was the only male I met while aboard. He was also the only human form that I saw beside Kathy.

He said laughing that he was a good friend of yours. We talked about the pollution on earth and he showed me wonders I cannot describe. He said that normally I would not remember this until much later through my dream state, but in my case that would defeat Kathy’s purpose.

Roi also said that although Madaline would prefer otherwise, now that he was a full member of the TAO, he was without concern there. He did not elaborate so I repeat it for what it was. I hope I did not cause any dissension.

How long it lasted. I cannot tell you. Roi said that we were not operating on linear time. All I know is that it seemed like I was there for weeks, yet I have lost but a few hours of earth time. I am very happy and I will wait patiently because I know my time will come.

    Thank you Sir

    Lara

  8. Harris Says:

Thank you all for your kind words. And to you Londoners, I thank you for your respectful solicitations. I will not be posting any further notices of Evelyn and my involvement. We have agreed that that will be her purview.

I will say the first best of three chess games belong to me. I am presently scheduled to play Ruth tomorrow, it remains to be seen whether I will announce my victory in the best of three there. In defense of Evelyn, I will say she said that her competitive juices had not been aroused as my “sweet lips were occupying her mind.”

She said that she was turning our chess match over to her mother temporarily to allow her to get her bearings and to allow her mother to quench a mother’s curiosity. I admit that I am more than just a little taken by Evelyn’s style and presence so whatever pleases her pleases me.

She made me promise to down her mother at chess with a vengeance, if I ever expect to gain an ounce of respect from her. I said as you have observed from our games I ask no quarter and give none from the board.

She laughed and said, “are you in for a humbling when next we play.” “But for now I will allow my mother the fun of wiping that self-pleasing smile off your face.” And if as a claimed gentleman, I may say, she planted a wonderfully pleasing buss upon my wanting lips.

That brings to mind another matter I which to address. Anonymous, that was a beautiful poem. My feelings exactly when I first set eyes upon Evelyn as she sat without knowing I had watched her for a few minutes before I approached her in the lobby.

Yes, Regal, even without the crown jewels. Yes, she was that upon first sight and she has proven to be even more than I dared to expect.

I humbly end this tirade with thanks for all the well wishes we have both received.

The latest scare tactic of the Right.
    =====================

Liberals control Congress and the White House. They’ve taken over health care. They’ve nationalized large blocks of the auto industry, the insurance industry, the banking industry. Once they finish with the oil and gas industry, what’s left?

    You’ll be sorry you asked….

Because next on the agenda for the Control Freaks in Washington is.. you.

That’s right. The liberals controlling government are setting their sights on controlling that reckless and headstrong force of capitalism: you. The typical hard-working, tax-paying, church-going, law-abiding American citizen is about to be blinded by the headlights of a federal government gone crazy.

As veteran political writer and CNSNews editor Terry Jeffrey exposes in his alarming new book: We are living in the era of the “Control Freaks.” They dictate an amazing number of our choices already, but it’s not enough to satisfy their lust for power. These liberals will not be happy until they can control:
what car you drive (better yet, no car at all – ride your bike!),
where you take your vacation (stay at home and save fuel!),
what you listen to on the radio (or don’t listen to!),
what your kids learn at school (no, it’s not up to you, and you may not even have the right to know what your children are being taught!),
    how many children you have!,
what you eat, drink, and brush your teeth with.
the list goes on and on and on.

It would almost be funny, if it weren’t so frightening.

But there is a way to stop them. To fight the control freaks, we must know exactly where they plan to strike next. First step: Get your copy today of Terry Jeffrey’s devastating new book Control Freaks: 7 Ways Liberals Plan to Ruin Your Life. And join the fight against the liberal Control Freaks.

A San Francisco-based attorney with ties to Guam was elected president of the State Bar of California on July 24, according to the Calvo & Clark law firm.

Bill Hebert, 49, will be sworn in as president of the 228,000-member organization in September.

Hebert also is a member of the bar associations for Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and appears frequently in local and federal courts in the region on business litigation matters, the news release said. He also serves as a mediator in business litigation and civil rights cases.

A graduate of Stanford University and Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, Hebert represents clients in business litigation, including unfair competition and class actions. He currently is a partner in Calvo & Clark’s San Francisco office.

“Everyone at Calvo & Clark is very proud of Bill and all he has accomplished as a lawyer and leader of the profession,” said Eduardo “Champ” Calvo, a partner in Calvo & Clark’s Guam office. “We all expect him to make a great contribution to the bar during his year in office.”

I have stopped taking Statins. My life has never been better. My doctors continue to tell me that I need to take statins. Most of my friends my age are on statins. Perhaps they should read this article.
    =================================================

    Statin drug coverup, exposed

Here’s what happens when you let the drug companies run their own research: You get what they pay for.

And they’re not paying for naysayers.

A new study finds signs of bias all over the research used by the feds to approve the cholesterol med Crestor for millions of healthy people with normal cholesterol levels. The study, called JUPITER, found that the drug might help lower the risk of heart problems in people with elevated levels of the inflammation marker C-reactive protein (CRP). (Read “Statins aimed at healthy people.”)

But a new analysis finds that JUPITER–which was paid for by Crestor’s maker, AstraZeneca–had so many problems and was so inconsistent that it shouldn’t have been used to change any of the guidelines for the use of the med.

For example, nine of the 14 researchers behind the JUPITER study had financial ties to the AstraZeneca, according to the new analysis in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

And that’s not even the biggest conflict.

The researchers also note that the study involved the use of a new test to measure levels of CRP–a test that millions of healthy Americans can now expect to receive at their own doctors’ offices now that Crestor has been approved for them.

Well, it just so happens that this test was created by the lead author of the JUPITER study, who is also a co-holder of the patent for it. That means he could soon enjoy a statin side effect that the rest of us can only envy: What to do with all the extra money that will be coming in.

If that’s not a conflict I don’t know what is. Even he admits it is–but seems to think it’s OK because everyone knows about it.

“My conflict has been publicly disclosed literally hundreds of times going as far back as 1997,” Dr. Paul Ridker said in an email to Bloomberg News. “There is nothing new here.”

Maybe it’s not new. But it’s certainly relevant. So are some of the other dirty details–like the decision to pull the plug on this study after just two years, when it was supposed to run for five years.

    Why the hurry?

Take a guess–because no one else has a better answer than you do. The researchers behind the new analysis said that inconsistencies in the data “should have led to the continuation of the trial rather than its premature ending.”
