And Then There Were Three: Kagan Confirmed
Posted by Michelle Moquin on August 6th, 2010
Okay so to date, “four” women have been confirmed to the Supreme Court, but never before have “three” served at the same time. I’m pretty damn excited aren’t you? Women have a stronger voice now…we are now represented in a bigger way than we ever have before…and it’s not bought and paid for. Let’s see what the power of three can do. Bring it on.
Congratulations Kagan!
Elena Kagan CONFIRMED To Supreme Court
WASHINGTON – The Senate confirmed Elena Kagan Thursday as the Supreme Court’s 112th justice and the fourth woman in its history, granting a lifetime term to a lawyer and academic with a reputation for brilliance, a dry sense of humor and a liberal bent.
The vote was 63-37 for President Barack Obama’s nominee to succeed retired Justice John Paul Stevens.
Five Republicans joined all but one Democrat and the Senate’s two independents to support Kagan. In a rarely practiced ritual reserved for the most historic votes, senators sat at their desks and stood to cast their votes with “ayes” and “nays.”
Kagan watched on TV in the conference room at the solicitor general’s office, with her Justice Department colleagues looking on. She’s to be sworn in Saturday afternoon at the court by Chief Justice John Roberts.
Obama, traveling in Chicago, said Kagan will make an outstanding justice who understands that her rulings affect people, and called the addition of another woman to the court a sign of progress for the country. He invited Kagan to the White House Friday for a ceremony marking her confirmation.
The vote, Obama said, was “an affirmation of her character and her temperament; her open-mindedness and evenhandedness; her determination to hear all sides of every story and consider all possible arguments.”
Kagan isn’t expected to alter the ideological balance of the court, where Stevens was considered a leader of the liberal wing. But the two parties clashed over her nomination and the court itself. Republicans argued that Kagan was a politically motivated activist who would be unable to put aside her opinions and rule impartially. Democrats defended her as a highly qualified trailblazer for women who could bring a note of moderation and real-world experience to a polarized court they said was dominated by just the kind of activists the GOP denounced.
Kagan is the first Supreme Court nominee in nearly 40 years with no experience as a judge, and her swearing-in will mark the first time in history that three women will serve on the nine-member court together.
Her lack of judicial experience was the stated reason for one fence-sitting Republican, Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts, to announce his opposition to Kagan’s confirmation Thursday, just hours before the vote.Though calling her “brilliant,” Brown – who had been seen as a potential GOP supporter – said she was missing the necessary background to serve as a justice.
“The best umpires, to use the popular analogy, must not only call balls and strikes, but also have spent enough time on the playing field to know the strike zone,” Brown said.
Democrats said they hoped Kagan would act as a counterweight to the conservative majority that’s dominated the Supreme Court in recent years.
“I believe she understands that judges and justices must realize how the law affects Americans each and every day. That understanding is fundamental,” said Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the Judiciary Committee chairman. With her confirmation, he said, “the Supreme Court will better reflect the diversity that made our country great.”
Most Republicans portrayed Kagan as a partisan who will use her post to push the Democratic agenda from the bench.
Kagan “is truly a person of the political left – now they call themselves progressives – one who has a history of working to advance the values of the left wing of the Democratic Party, and whose philosophy of judging allows a judge to utilize the power of their office to advance their vision for what America should be,” said Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee.
Just one Democrat – centrist Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska – crossed party lines to oppose Kagan.
A handful of mostly moderate Republicans broke with their party to back her: Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, South Carolina’s Sen. Lindsey Graham, retiring Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, and Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar.
They argued that partisanship should play no role in debates over the Supreme Court and have called Obama’s nominee qualified.
Still, it was clear that unlike in past decades – when high court nominees enjoyed the support of large majorities on both sides – party politics was driving the debate and vote on Kagan, much as it did last year when the Senate considered Obama’s first pick, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and former President George W. Bush’s two nominees, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito.
GOP senators have criticized Kagan for her decision as dean to bar military recruiters from the Harvard Law School career services office because of the prohibition against openly gay soldiers. Republicans spent the last hours of debate accusing her of being hostile to gun rights, and they have also spent considerable time criticizing her stance in favor of abortion rights.
Kagan revealed little about what kind of justice she would be in weeks of private one-on-one meetings with senators and several days of testimony before the Judiciary panel, despite having famously penned a law review article blasting Supreme Court nominees for obfuscating before the Senate. She dodged questions about her personal beliefs on a host of hot-button issues and declined repeatedly to “grade” Supreme Court rulings.
But her public appearances and documents unearthed from her time serving as a Clinton administration lawyer and domestic policy aide painted a portrait of the kind of personality she’ll bring to the bench. She came across as a sharp intellect who enjoys the thrust and parry of legal debate, someone who’s willing to throw elbows to make her opinions heard but nonetheless eager to facilitate consensus. She also showed flashes of a playful, dry wit senators said would serve her well in sometimes tense court deliberations.
Kagan will be no stranger to the eight justices she is to join on the Supreme Court, having served as the government’s top lawyer arguing cases before them in a post often referred to as the “10th justice.” She’s already friendly with a number of them, not least Antonin Scalia, the conservative justice who is her ideological opposite.
Kagan’s nomination to a seat on the nation’s highest court drew relatively little notice this summer, with the public and elected officials preoccupied by bad economic news and the Gulf oil spill, and many lawmakers nervously eyeing the November midterm congressional elections.
But senators used the debate to press their dueling visions of the Supreme Court.
When sworn in, Kagan will join two other women on the court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sotomayor, who was Obama’s first nominee. Sandra Day O’Connor was the first woman appointed to the court, by President Ronald Reagan. She served from September 1981 to January 2006.
Not since 1972 has the Senate confirmed a Supreme Court nominee without experience as a judge. That year, both William Rehnquist and Lewis Powell Jr. joined the court.

What is happening on August 6 and 7 is something you have never seen in your lifetime and will probably not see happen again. Planets will square off in four packs, each in a different corner of the sky.
On one corner you have Jupiter and Uranus. On the other you have Saturn, Venus, and Mars clear across the sky in in the opposite corner.
On the third corner you have Pluto directly opposite your moon which fills the fourth corner.
Each planet will be in very early degrees , so when they move into position on August 6 and 7, they will calibrate into a perfect square pattern with a giant X in the middle.
The Emperor’s ship will occupy that X as a signal to all who would enter this space that He is the sole Arbiter of what occurs within this Solar System.
Should any wish to contest His absolute authority and dominion, they will be met with all force available until the issue is resolved militarily.

Everything I Know About Leadership I Learned at McDonald’s
Paul Facella
Inside Management, Ltd.
In these trying economic times, strong leadership seems elusive. But even during times such as these, there are principles that you can adopt to help you become a better leader — whether it’s in the office, in your community or at home.
There is no better place to learn about these principles than McDonald’s, one of the most highly regarded, well-run corporations in the world. Even during this recession, McDonald’s stood out as one of the few companies to post gains.
To learn more about the principles that define leadership, Bottom Line/Personal talked with management consultant Paul Facella, who spent the first 34 years of his career at McDonald’s, rising from behind-the-counter cashier to regional vice president
. There he developed an understanding of the company’s culture and the principles of leadership underlying it.
LEAD BY EXAMPLE
At McDonald’s, I learned that effective leaders model the behavior that they want to see in others. This started first and foremost with Ray Kroc, McDonald’s founder.
I saw humility and graciousness the first time I met Ray. He was known for visiting with regional employees whenever he came to town. Because I was the highest-ranking staff member in the New York franchise where I worked, it was decided that I would dine with him.
I was a director of operations at the time, and so this was quite an honor for me. In the limousine, Ray insisted on taking the small “flip seat,” offering me the most comfortable seat because I was his guest.
Having the head of one of the most successful businesses in the world put me at ease made a huge impression on me. I have never forgotten his efforts to make an ordinary employee feel special. I vowed to adopt this mind-set in my own life.
Even today, I always try to remember the impact I have on others. When new members join an organization that I belong to, I go out of my way to interact with and welcome them.
It was not unusual at McDonald’s to see leaders, such as Ray himself, demonstrate what needed to be done. No task was too humble, even for the boss.
During a visit to one New Jersey restaurant, Ray picked up cigarette butts in the parking lot, setting the tone for cleanliness. When executives were out in the field, they always made a point of pitching in. If there was a problem, they would jump behind the counter and help out.
The influence of Ray Kroc and others at McDonald’s has always stayed with me. Even though I am a senior member and former officer of my local volunteer fire department, I always try to be the first to pick up a mop or a broom. When junior fire department members see me doing this, they invariably pitch in as well.
FOSTER RELATIONSHIPS
Integrity is valued above all else at McDonald’s and permeates the culture of the company. Everyone is treated as a partner. Some even say it is like a surrogate family.
There was an unprecedented level of trust between people involved in all aspects of the business.
We called it the “three-legged stool.” This meant that the relationship between the three interdependent partners — the franchisees, the suppliers and the corporate staff — was understood to be vital to the company’s success.
Making the “three-legged stool” work often required taking gutsy steps that might have seemed counterintuitive.
Example: There were times when Ray told suppliers to raise their prices. He figured that for these companies to become long-term partners, they needed to succeed, and they wouldn’t if he forced them to accept profits that were too low.
This worked. When vendors increased profits, the result was stronger loyalty to McDonald’s. Vendors had so much faith in McDonald’s that they actually helped bail out the company in 1959, when it was in trouble because of a real estate deal gone bad.
This culture of trust was so strong that important agreements often were made with a handshake rather than a written contract. Many suppliers, now second- and third-generation businesses, haven’t had a formal contract with the company for 50 years.
The high level of trust also reaped rewards for the company. Because they felt such loyalty, suppliers, franchisees and employees often suggested some of McDonald’s most successful products and concepts.
Example: Herb Peterson, a franchise owner, was the creator of the Egg McMuffin in 1973.
RAISE THE BAR
At McDonald’s, the company mantra is “Never be satisfied.” We always were looking to break our records, whether it was increasing the number of customers or lowering costs.
To raise the bar as high as possible, we used metrics, or measurements, to determine whether we had reached our goals. We measured everything from hourly sales to how many bags of potatoes were used each day.
We made goals measurable. This especially helped team members know what they were working toward and gave them a sense of ownership. It also encouraged an environment of friendly competition.
Example: When I was a manager, many cashiers were coming up short each day, so I put up signs showing just how over or under each cash register was. Within 24 hours, every person’s total was perfect. No one wanted to be the lowest performer in the store.
PROVIDE RECOGNITION
At McDonald’s, recognition is everywhere. The company makes it a way of life, encouraging managers to recognize employees regularly. Ray knew that there is no better way to inspire people. Even front-line employees were recognized.
You might think of a crew job at McDonald’s — working the kitchen — as menial, but if you worked hard, you were noticed and rewarded. For many, that meant being promoted and advancing from crew to operator to the corporate office.
Result: About 42% of the current worldwide leadership at McDonald’s started out as crew members. Whenever possible, employees at McDonald’s are recognized in public with fanfare.
Example: To acknowledge a McDonald’s staff attorney who had joined a national Hispanic organization, the company president addressed the entire floor of the office to congratulate him and then gave him an all-expenses-paid week at a corporate retreat. The move also encouraged other employees to join similar organizations.
At McDonald’s, recognition always is sincere, meaningful and tailored to the individual — whether it is a bonus, concert tickets or time off. When I was an assistant manager, I was out one evening with my future wife at a restaurant that I could barely afford. I saw the owner/operator of the franchise where I worked.
We waved to each other. When I was ready to pay the check, I found that he had paid for our dinner. At times such as these, I felt as if I would do anything for the company.
Bottom Line/Personal interviewed Paul Facella, president and CEO of Inside Management, Ltd., a management consulting firm based in Lynbrook, New York. He is author, with Adina Genn, of Everything I Know About Business I Learned at McDonald’s: The 7 Leadership Principles That Drive Break Out Success (McGraw-Hill). http://www.InsideManagement.com

Thanks for the article about international cell phone rip offs by American cell phone companies.
ATT uses their rips to pull another. Rather than notify you that your are racking up roaming charges they offer to sell you a special international rate.
Another reason to vote out republicans. They haven’t found a corporate rip off they don’t like. As long as the corporation contributes to the republican campaign coffers, they can do what they want to the public.
let’s stay focus come November.

The missing link for hypertension
It’s not the salt–it’s the sugar.
For years, the mainstream has been screaming that sodium is a leading cause of hypertension… even as they admit that they have no idea what causes 95 percent of all high blood pressure cases.
The latest study should clue them in, because it finds that the real problem may not be in the saltshaker after all. It’s in your sweet tooth–and the more added sugar you have in your diet, the higher your blood pressure is likely to be.
Researchers looked at data on 4,528 Americans over the age of 18 with no history of hypertension, and found that those who consumed 74 grams of added sugars a day or more were 77 percent more likely to have of a blood pressure reading of 160/100.
And that will have your doctor reaching for his prescription pad faster than you can say “high-fructose corn syrup.”
It doesn’t take much, either–74 grams of added sugar is roughly what you’ll find in two and a half 20-ounce soda bottles, and less than what you’ll find in some of the cola buckets sold in convenience stores in fast food restaurants.
That’s also roughly equal to 18 teaspoons of sugar–which is actually lower than the national average, since most Americans consume 22 teaspoons a day (and plenty of people take in a whole lot more).
It doesn’t take a lot of math to see why a third of us have hypertension today–versus between 5 percent and 10 of Americans just a century ago, when people consumed much less added sugar.
The new study also makes perfect sense when you consider that lower blood pressure is one of the more immediate benefits of a low-carb diet, which contains no added sugar.
Better blood pressure is just one more reason why giving up the sugar habit is one of the best things you could ever do for your body. It may not be easy–added sugars, especially high fructose corn syrup, are in everything from soda to salad dressing and bread to barbecue sauce–but it’s worth the effort.
One simple change can give you a taste of what’s to come: A recent study found that just cutting out soda alone can shave a couple of points off your blood pressure.
But the best reason of all is this: Lower your blood pressure on your own, and you won’t have to be among the millions of Americans who take blood pressure meds.

I agree with you. White america is so quick to make shrines of crimes against them. And equally as quick to tell the OTW to get over any injustice they have done to them.
The black farmers are still fighting to get back a pittance owed to them by the actions of whites working in the federal agriculture department. Congress, the press, and white american ignores their plight.
But one misunderstood statement by a black woman and the entire lot of them were clamoring for her head.
I agree with Ricardo. LOCK & LOAD!

Beets beat high blood pressure
Soda might raise your blood pressure–but there’s one drink that may be able to lower it.
You might even say it can’t be beet, because a new study finds that beetroot juice is just as effective at lowering blood pressure as nitrate pills.
That shouldn’t be a surprise since beets contain high levels of natural nitrates, but a new study shows how quickly this simple juice can hit the bloodstream and go to work.
In three separate studies, researchers assigned healthy volunteers to either potassium nitrate (in doses ranging from 248 mg up to 1488 mg), potassium chloride, low-nitrate water, plain water, or 250 ml of beetroot juice (roughly 8.5 ounces of the dark purple punch).
The researchers took blood samples and blood pressure readings at the start of the study, and at regular intervals for the following 24 hours. And here’s the root of what they discovered: The patients who were given 1488 mg of nitrate shaved about 7 points of their systolic blood pressure levels, while those who drank the juice lowered it by 5.4, according to the study published online in Hypertension.
The potassium chloride, low-nitrate water, and plain water had no impact on blood pressure, according to the researchers.
The study was done on healthy patients, but the researchers say there’s no reason to believe it won’t work for people who suffer from cardiovascular disease as well. But of course, talk to your doctor before you consider skipping your nitrate pills in favor of a glass of beetroot juice.
If you do give it a shot, you might want to start out with a blended juice (just make sure you have 8.5 ounces of beetroot in it). Beetroot juice has what some might call an earthy taste… which is a nice way of saying it tastes like dirt. By adding some carrots, tomatoes or berries, however, you might be able to make it a little more palatable.
Beetroot juice has long been believed to have beneficial effects on the bloodstream. It’s also a good source of the dietary silica needed for healthy bones. And another new study finds that a glass a day may even boost your stamina by up to 16 percent.
Looks like we’ve found one more way to beet the Big Pharma system.
P.S. For even better control of your blood pressure, get your own device and keep tabs at home. One recent study found that home-based readers are much more accurate and more reliable indicators of heart problems than readings taken in the doctor’s office

Breaking news: After Target’s contribution to a far-right candidate in Minnesota ignited a public outcry, the company’s stock took a hit. In one day, it lost $1.3 billion in value—and some observers said the threat of a boycott was one cause.1
But Target won’t stop trying to buy elections.
In fact, Target’s CEO is already talking about “future donations.”2 Maybe he’s listening to the analysts who are “downplaying” the downsides of Target’s political activity.3 So we need to turn up the heat to make sure that Target—and ALL corporations—understand that Americans won’t tolerate corporations hijacking our elections.
We’re working round-the-clock on new, visible ways to get our message across—including skywriting above Target’s headquarters, viral videos from angry customers, and live events outside stores around the country.
We need to hold Target accountable, and help show other corporations that they better not follow Target’s example.
Target gave a right-wing candidate $150,000. We need to raise at least that much right away to keep fighting back.
It’s clear that we’ve got real momentum. A Facebook group protesting Target ballooned to over 40,000 members in less than a week.
A woman with a gay son went to her local Target to protest respectfully—and the resulting video racked up over 200,000 views on YouTube.4 Target was forced to set up a special phone line to handle the volume of customers’ phone calls.
But Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel hasn’t promised that the company will stop intervening in elections. He emailed Target employees and defended the donation as focused on “business objectives”—and, later, pledged to set up a “review process” for future donations.
As long as corporations like Target think that it’s OK to plow money into political campaigns, we’re in trouble. Corporations are not people. We need to make sure that Target and each and every corporation in the country gets this message: Stay out of our elections!
To bring that lesson home, we need to use all our movement’s creativity and energy. So today, MoveOn members at over 1,100 Target stores around the country (!) will drop by with letters expressing their disappointment.
And when we go to deliver our massive packet of signatures from disappointed customers to Target’s headquarters, we’ll make sure our message is also displayed in the sky overhead!
We need resources to pay for these high-profile tactics. If we can raise $150,000—the same amount as Target donated to a right-winger—we’re confident we can break through the media chatter and spin.
Thanks for helping us bring home this message to Target and other corporations—and for all you do.

??She directs him down the correct aisle.??
A few minutes later, he deposits a huge bag of cotton balls and a ball of string on the counter.
??She says, confused, ‘Sir, I thought you were looking for some tampons for your wife?
??He answers, ‘You see, it’s like this, yesterday, I sent my wife to the store ??to get me a carton of cigarettes, and she came back with a tin of tobacco ??and some rolling papers; cause it’s sooo-ooo–oo- ooo much cheaper.

Friend –
On March 7th, 1965, 600 of us lined up to walk from Selma to Montgomery, to march for voting rights.
When we tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge over the Alabama River, we were met by state troopers. They attacked us with tear gas, bullwhips, and nightsticks.
It became known as Bloody Sunday, and the national outcry over the brutality that day led to the enactment, exactly 45 years ago today, of the Voting Rights Act.
The progress we’ve made since then is remarkable.
But the expansion of voting rights for millions did not happen overnight. It was the product of a continued struggle, by many people, over many years.
And just as change did not come easily then, it does not come easily now.
Discrimination still exists in America — its effects can be as harmful as they were decades ago. And we can always become a better, more just society.
Two years ago, this movement — led by Barack Obama — brought millions of people into the political process for the first time.
I’m told that many of you are working hard now to get as many as possible of those folks — and others from across the country who are with us in these fights — to the polls this year.
It’s an important effort, and the legacy of the fight for the Voting Rights Act is that it is not only our right to vote, and to help others do so — it is our duty.
Can I count on you to help out between now and the elections in November?
When I was a child, I tasted the bitter fruits of racial discrimination — and I did not like it.
That was what spurred me to act. In those early days, we sacrificed our very selves for our rights as Americans. But we never gave up.
And now barriers that kept an entire people from full participation in this country have been removed.
No longer are people who look like me met with violence when we register to vote.
No longer is the idea that an African American could become president just a dream.
We live in a better world, a better country.
But our work is not complete. We cannot wait for someone else to make change.
We must all do it. You must do it. I must do it.
Please sign up to help millions more vote:

The Right often lies about the shape Social Security is in to frighten voters who are senior citizen into voting the republican ticket. Here are some truths I got for MoveOn.org. I checked them out and found everyone to be true. You can too by simply googling the assertions.
======================================================
Top 5 Social Security Myths
Myth #1: Social Security is going broke.
Reality: There is no Social Security crisis. By 2023, Social Security will have a $4.6 trillion surplus (yes, trillion with a ‘T’).
It can pay out all scheduled benefits for the next quarter-century with no changes whatsoever.1 After 2037, it’ll still be able to pay out 75% of scheduled benefits—and again, that’s without any changes.
The program started preparing for the Baby Boomers’ retirement decades ago.2 Anyone who insists Social Security is broke probably wants to break it themselves.
Myth #2: We have to raise the retirement age because people are living longer.
Reality: This is a red-herring to trick you into agreeing to benefit cuts. Retirees are living about the same amount of time as they were in the 1930s.
The reason average life expectancy is higher is mostly because many fewer people die as children than they did 70 years ago.
3 What’s more, what gains there have been are distributed very unevenly—since 1972, life expectancy increased by 6.5 years for workers in the top half of the income brackets, but by less than 2 years for those in the bottom half.
4 But those intent on cutting Social Security love this argument because raising the retirement age is the same as an across-the-board benefit cut.
Myth #3: Benefit cuts are the only way to fix Social Security.
Reality: Social Security doesn’t need to be fixed. But if we want to strengthen it, here’s a better way: Make the rich pay their fair share.
If the very rich paid taxes on all of their income, Social Security would be sustainable for decades to come.
5 Right now, high earners only pay Social Security taxes on the first $106,000 of their income.
6 But conservatives insist benefit cuts are the only way because they want to protect the super-rich from paying their fair share.
Myth #4: The Social Security Trust Fund has been raided and is full of IOUs
Reality: Not even close to true. The Social Security Trust Fund isn’t full of IOUs, it’s full of U.S. Treasury Bonds. And those bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the United States.
7 The reason Social Security holds only treasury bonds is the same reason many Americans do: The federal government has never missed a single interest payment on its debts
. President Bush wanted to put Social Security funds in the stock market—which would have been disastrous—but luckily, he failed. So the trillions of dollars in the Social Security Trust Fund, which are separate from the regular budget, are as safe as can be.
Myth #5: Social Security adds to the deficit
Reality: It’s not just wrong—it’s impossible! By law, Social Security’s funds are separate from the budget, and it must pay its own way. That means that Social Security can’t add one penny to the deficit.
8 Defeating these myths is the first step to stopping Social Security cuts. Can you share this list now?

Clean teeth, healthy heart
If you’re not brushing after your meals, you could be doing a lot more than giving yourself bad breath and yellow chompers.
A new study confirms the evidence that has been building for years: People who brush their teeth the most have the lowest risk of heart disease. And people who brush the least may be setting themselves up for a lifetime of cardiovascular woes.
That’s in addition to being the most unwanted partner during “spin the bottle.”
Researchers asked roughly 12,000 Scots about their teeth- brushing habits, and found that over the course of eight years, people who said they “rarely or never brushed” (turns out some people will admit to that, at least in Scotland) had a 70 percent increased risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attack or stroke than those who brushed at least twice a day.
Those who seldom brushed also had higher levels of the inflammation marker C-reactive protein, which has been linked to an increased risk of heart problems, according to the study published in BMJ. Some docs even prescribe cholesterol meds based on CRP levels, and not cholesterol.
Turns out these people don’t need statins–just a new toothbrush.
Other studies have made a similar connection between bad teeth and grimy gums and poor cardiovascular health. One recent study found that periodontal disease boosts heart disease risk by 19 percent, and up to 44 percent in patients under the age of 65.
Your own mother probably taught you the basic keys to a clean mouth years ago, and her advice still holds up today: Brush after meals and floss daily. But don’t stop there– you can also get a boost with green tea, which has been found to lower the risk of gum disease, and fish oil.
One recent study found that people with the lowest levels of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA were 1.5 times more likely to have periodontal problems such as tooth decay and gum disease than those who got the most.
Of course, the best oral hygiene habits in the world won’t make much of a difference if you’re constantly brushing off the residue of cola, candy, cake and anything that comes from a drive-through window–so make sure your healthy lifestyle begins with what you put in your mouth in the first place.
Then, get a firm grip on some soft bristles and take better care of your beak. Your heart will thank you… and so will your spouse.

Thank God we have Obama as President because now for the first time in history we have THREE women serving on the Supreme at the same time.
Now as Emily, if we could replace a couple of “KARTS” with two more women, this country will find its true path.

My congratulations to both Obama and the Congress for getting the job done. And to Mrs. Kagan, you go girl!
If you are reading this, here are some more lies the Right feeds the public to scare them into buying their books.
Don’t bother reading it in detail. You will get the gist by just scanning these scam articles. It’s all about suckering the stupid into believing only the Right has the solutions for a crisis they caused.

The Feds are going to be furious when they see this report!
That’s because they want you to believe that everything is under control… your bank and all your savings safe and secure….
But the truth is, America is in serious trouble.
U.S. banks are going bankrupt before everyone’s eyes… yet the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance fund has only $18.9 billion to cover $4.4 trillion in deposits.
Excess government spending to the tune of $7.4 trillion is set to skyrocket inflation putting even basic necessities out of reach for many Americans.
All while power-mad government snoops quietly monitor you bank accounts… brokerage accounts… and credit card purchases.
Let Me Help Protect You and Your Family from
the Coming Dark Age!
Find out practical strategies for Protecting
Your Family from the Worst Financial Crisis in
100 Years…
Dear Fellow American,
My name is Bob Livingston, editor of The Bob Livingston Letter.
I am writing to you because I am convinced that the U.S. is now facing some of the most serious economic and political threats in its history.
After nearly 30 years of unprecedented prosperity, the U.S. economy is now in shambles.
Millions of Americans have lost their homes… their life savings… and their jobs.
While the U.S. military remains the most powerful force in the world, the most immediate threats America now faces are closer to home:
…failing banks…
…soaring government spending that will lead to Hyperinflation…
…runaway taxes…
…an increasingly totalitarian government that believes in illegal surveillance of law-abiding citizens…
…older citizens no longer able to retire and live what used to be known as “their golden years.”
Fortunately, you DON’T have to just sit by and do nothing. There are simple, easy, inexpensive steps you can take right now to protect your family.
I’ve prepared a 21st Century Survival Guide called Surviving a Global Financial Crisis and Currency Collapse that I believe can help you prepare for the worst financial threats America now faces.
This manual is chock-full of proven strategies, techniques and information that can make all the difference in a financial emergency.
In fact, Surviving a Global Financial Crisis and Currency Collapse will actually make your life better even if, God willing, we sidestep some of the economic catastrophes that I fear are coming.
That’s because the steps you take now to prepare for some of these possible disasters will end up making you financially stronger… more independent… and more self-reliant than you are now.
You won’t find this privately printed dossier in stores. I’ve developed it exclusively for my extended family of readers, and packed it with practical, real-world strategies for coping with a financial catastrophe.
Let me give you one example…
Protect Your Savings from Failing Banks
America’s biggest banks are running to the Federal government for emergency loans and bailouts. Hundreds could end up failing.
Yet the FDIC has only $19 billion in insurance funds to cover an estimated $4.4 trillion in deposits.
The government tells YOU that everything is just fine, not to worry… but that’s NOT what it tells the bankers.
“Without substantial amounts of additional assessment revenue in the near future, current projections indicate that the (FDIC) fund balance will approach zero or even become negative,” FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair wrote in the letter to the chief executives of the nation’s 8,305 federally insured banks and thrifts.
The truth is, when a bank fails, the Feds close it down without advance notice. It’s policy. You show up at the bank to make a withdrawal and the doors are locked shut.
There is usually a notice on the door instructing depositors how they can gain access to their money.
That’s what happened to depositors at Colorado National Bank in March 2009. The bank issued a notice telling depositors that their money had been transferred to Herring Bank of Amarillo, Texas.
There are usually few delays in gaining access to your money—usually but not always. And do you really want to take that chance?
When IndyMac Bank of Pasadena, Calif., failed in July 2008, the second largest bank failure in U.S. history, angry depositors lined up around the block trying to get their money. Many were turned away.
Police threatened anxious customers to remain calm or they would be arrested. It was estimated that 10,000 depositors had as much as $1 billion in uninsured IndyMac accounts.

Feds Plot to Make Foreign
Bank Accounts Illegal
For American investors worried about the safety of U.S. banks, it will soon be too late to seek an alternative.
That’s because the new Democrat-controlled Congress has plans to make it virtually illegal for an American citizen to open a bank account in another country—even for legitimate business purposes.
It’s already very difficult. Many foreign banks no longer will do business with Americans due to the onerous reporting requirements of the USA PATRIOT Act.
Led by Michigan Senator Carl Levin, the Democrats believe foreign bank accounts allow ex-pats and others to avoid income taxes—at least $100 billion worth—and they are determined to collect it. In March 2009, Levin proposed new draconian rules to make it almost impossible for a U.S. citizen to open foreign bank accounts.

Even a Temporary Freeze on
Accounts Would Be a Disaster
What worries economists is that a large number of bank failures could overwhelm the FDIC and result in significant delays for depositors in gaining access to their savings.
If that were to happen, many Americans would be unable to pay their bills or their mortgages.
What’s more, widespread bank failures are quite possible. In the 1980s and 90s, more than 700 savings and loan institutions failed or were taken over by Federal regulators. The total cost to taxpayers was estimated at $130 billion.
Some depositors had to wait years to get their money. The Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) covered accounts up to the maximum of $50,000.
But depositors with large accounts often had to wait—and some never did get their money returned.

Never, Ever Keep Gold or Cash
in a Bank Safety Deposit Box!
Bank officials have been informed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that all safety deposit boxes will be seized in the event of a national disaster.
As occurred sporadically during the Great Depression, Federal agents will examine all safety deposit boxes and determine which items may be returned to bank customers. No weapons,
cash, gold or silver will be allowed to leave the bank—only paperwork will be given to its owners.
Bank officials have been instructed not to reveal this policy to bank customers, even if asked.
Bottom line: Only use safety deposit boxes for family documents you don’t mind being inspected by Federal agents. Never use them to store valuables.

And the Current Banking Crisis
is Far Worse Than the S&L
Crisis of the Early 1990s
For one thing, the current crisis doesn’t just affect small savings and loans in Middle America but the largest banks in the world—banks like Wachovia, Citibank, Bank of America and Washington Mutual.
They have all been forced to get large loans from the Federal government to cover bad debts worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
The size of these bad debts, known as derivatives, are difficult to imagine. Derivatives are investments that are “derived” from IOUs like mortgage loans, corporate bonds and card debts.
Investment bankers take these bundles of debts and then sell them as investments. According to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, banks in the U.S. currently hold more than $180 trillion in derivatives. The Bank of International Settlements estimates the total worldwide to be a staggering $683.7 trillion.
That’s why, in March 2009, New York University economist Nouriel Roubini predicted that the banking crisis has just begun.
He said that “many” banks will end up being nationalized because the government’s $750 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) does little more than help the banks meet their current obligations. It does nothing to address the underlying problem of bad debts (so-called “toxic assets”) the banks are carrying on their books.
Fortunately, there are now steps you can take to protect your life savings from the very real possibility of a global banking collapse.
In your copy of Surviving a Global Financial Crisis and Currency Collapse I’ll help you prepare for the worst so you’ll never have to be a victim of a failed bank and unable to access your own money.
You’ll discover…
Why the global banking system is nothing more than a massive Ponzi scheme designed to keep citizens 100% dependent upon government.
The truth about the national debt and why the Federal government has no intention of ever paying it back.
Why you should get most of your money out of banks RIGHT NOW, only keeping in enough to pay your routine bills.
How the Fed will deliberately devalue the U.S. dollar, wiping out the life savings of millions.
Three steps you simply MUST take right away to prepare for a global banking collapse.
How to legally withdraw large amounts of cash from your local bank without causing suspicion.
Why you must buy gold as fast as you can and keep it in your physical possession—and the one type of gold you should NEVER buy.
The best type of gold coins to purchase.
Why U.S. government bonds are the WORST possible investment you can own right now.
The only stocks you should own in the event of a global banking collapse—and why it’s essential you hold the actual stock certificates.
Why stockpiling durable goods is essential whenever a nation’s banking system is unsafe.
Why you should diversify your assets outside the United States and outside the U.S. dollar.
And lots, lots MORE!
The good news is you can FIGHT BACK and prepare to meet and overcome these threats!

WARNING: Collapse of U.S. Dollar
Could Wipe Out Half of Your Wealth!
Hyperinflation is not as rare as governments would like you to believe. Whenever a government spends far more than it takes in, the risk of Hyperinflation is there. It wipes out the value of accumulated savings, leaving even affluent people penniless.
2008, Zimbabwe: The socialist dictatorship of Robert Mugabe has created an annual inflation
rate of 11,250,000%, resulting in currency that is basically worthless. At independence in 1980, 1 Zimbabwean dollar was worth approximately $1.25 in U.S. dollars. By mid-2008, one U.S. dollar was worth 688 trillion pre-August 2006 Zimbabwean dollars.
2007, Turkey: Turkey has suffered from chronic inflation for decades. In 1980, one U.S. dollar was worth 90 Turkish lira. By 2004, a U.S. dollar was worth 1.3 million Turkish lira. As a result, in 2007 the government simply declared a revaluation of the Turkish lira. One million Turkish lira would henceforth be worth only 1 lira.
2005, Romania: In 1998, the highest denomination in Romania was 100,000 lei. By 2005, it was 1 million lei. The Romanian government then devalued its currency, declaring that 1 new leu would be worth 10,000 old lei.
2001, Argentina: Overspending by the Argentine government resulted in massive inflation in the 1980s and 90s. By 1992, one new peso was worth 100 billion pre-1983 pesos. (Had you stuffed cash within your mattress during one of Argentina’s many recessions, not trusting their shaky banks, you would have ended up with nothing.)
1994, Russia: Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the new Russia saw annual inflation of between 2,500% and 8,500% a year. The value of the ruble declined from 40 rubles to the dollar in 1991 to 30,000 rubles to the dollar by 1999.

I also want to show you…
How to Live Through Hyperinflation
In the past few months, prices have been falling. Real estate is down. Prices for some commodities have declined.
But don’t be fooled! The current, temporary period of deflation will soon be followed by massive INFLATION.
That’s because Barack Obama and his allies in Congress have embarked on the biggest government spending spree in history.
This socialistic expansion of government will inevitably lead to a devaluation of the U.S. dollar (hyperinflation) that could wipe out your life savings.
Imagine a world of $20 per gallon of gasoline… $30 hamburgers… and housing rentals costing $10,000 a month or more.
The economic stimulus package alone (estimated at $850 billion) is nearly DOUBLE what the U.S. spent on FDR’s New Deal in inflation-adjusted terms.
It’s 8 times more than the U.S. spent on the Marshall Plan rebuilding Europe after World War II. It’s more than we spent on NASA, the Race to the Moon or the Iraq, Vietnam or Korean Wars.
And the stimulus plan is only the tip of the iceberg!
When you add in the bailout lending for Citigroup and skyrocketing federal deficits, the U.S. government is spending $10 trillion it doesn’t have over the next few years.
Whether the government borrows it or prints it, an increase that big in the money supply is going to do only one thing: Send inflation through the roof!
The last time the U.S. government tried to spend its way out of a recession, in the 1970s, the inflation rate increased by 500%—from a 70-year average of only 2.5% to a high of 13.5% in 1979.
But government spending in the 1970s is practically ZERO when compared to what the U.S. government is spending today.
$7.4 Trillion in New Government Debt
Will Send Inflation Skyrocketing!
In the past 12 months alone the U.S. government (both Republicans and Democrats) have promised to spend $7.4 trillion in bailouts. According to Bloomberg.com, this includes…
…$1.8 trillion in Net Portfolio Commercial Paper Funding through the Fed…
…$1.4 trillion in FDIC Liquidity Guarantees…
…$900 billion in the Term Auction Facility (TAF)…
…$540 billion in the Money Market Investor Funding Facility (MMIFF)…
…$700 billion in TARP…
…$300 billion in the Hope for Homeowners program run by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA)…
…$200 billion for the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac bailout…
…$128 billion for the American Insurance Group (AIG) loans…
…$250 billion for Term Securities Lending…
…$139 billion loan guarantee for General Electric (GE)
That’s why you need to take steps right now to protect your retirement savings from the ravages of hyperinflation.
Currency depreciation (inflation) robs retirement pensions and all savings, but most people don’t notice because it is gradual up to the latter stages when it is already too late.
In your copy of Surviving a Global Financial Crisis and Currency Collapse, you’ll learn some practical, real-world strategies you can put into place right now that will help you get through the worst financial catastrophe to strike America in its history.
You’ll discover…
Why stuffing CASH within your mattress is the worst thing you can do. Do this instead.
Why you still have TIME to prepare for hyperinflation—if you act right away.
The right way and the wrong way to diversify your assets—and the three asset classes that are essential to surviving hyperinflation.
The consumables most likely to be affected by hyperinflation—and which ones you should store now.
What bankers don’t want you to know about Certificates of Deposit (CDs).
Why hyperinflation will result in DOZENS of new taxes on the “rich”—including a hefty value added tax (VAT), as in Europe.
How to avoid a forced conversion of savings and pension fund assets into Treasury bonds.
Why the government will try to defeat all attempts by individuals to protect their savings and personal security.
Why certain blue chip stocks—yes, stocks!—are a great hedge against hyperinflation.
How to take physical delivery of stock certificates—and why it’s more important now than ever before.
One conservative investment you should NEVER own if you’re worried about inflation.
And lots, lots MORE!

Protect Your Family’s Privacy
from Illegal Surveillance
The U.S. Constitution protects citizens against “unlawful search and seizure.” U.S. courts have long insisted that police agencies must have “probable cause” that a crime has been committed before they can search through your home, subpoena your bank records, tap your private telephone calls and so on.
But in the name of catching terrorists and “tax cheats,” all these constitutional protections are being flagrantly (often illegally) ignored by many government agencies.
Laws that were designed to catch terrorists are now being used instead for domestic spying in the U.S…. illegal investigations of political organizations… monitoring of bank accounts and credit card companies… routine scanning of private emails and web browsing… tracking vehicle movements… and lots more.
Both liberal and conservative organizations are outraged at the current scope of government surveillance—which now far exceeds anything George Orwell imagined in his chilling, anti-authoritarian polemic, 1984.
Worst, the USA PATRIOT Act requires tens of thousands of private businesses—from banks and brokerages to credit card companies and precious metals dealers—literally to spy on their customers for the government.
In the name of catching money launderers and terrorists, the government forces private businesses to report any “unusual” activity involving transactions over $3,000—and all the data is fed into a massive government supercomputer known as the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
What’s more, if employees of these businesses warn their customers about these spying activities, they could go to prison.
Continued Below…
Now It’s the Democrats’
Turn to Spy on Americans!
If you think the election of Barack Obama will end illegal government surveillance of its citizens, you haven’t been paying attention.
One of Obama’s first acts as president was to file a brief in federal court siding with the former Bush Administration and insisting that the government should be allowed to eavesdrop on Americans without warrants.
Privacy advocates insist Americans will have just as much to fear from Democrat spies as
they had from the Bush Administration—perhaps more.
That’s because, while George W. Bush and the Republicans trounced on civil liberties and used warrantless wiretaps in the pursuit of global terrorists, Barack Obama and his Democrat allies are going to use the same spying technologies… on U.S. taxpayers!
“Hundreds of billions of dollars in taxes are owed to the government each year but are not being collected,” warned Rep. Charles B. Rangel, a Democrat from New York and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, himself investigated for criminal tax evasion.
According to The New York Times, the kinds of “tax cheats” Obama and the Democrat-congress plan on targeting include “…self-employed painters and plumbers, small family businesses (from local florists and dry-cleaners to restaurants) and the growing legions who sell things over eBay and other Internet auction sites.”
“Tax cheats come in all shapes and sizes,” explained Democratic Senator Carl Levin of Michigan, Chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Levin is pushing through a bill in Congress that would make offshore bank accounts virtually illegal.
“This bill contains innovative and powerful measures that could strike an immediate and strong blow against these tax dodges,” he said in 2008. “These provisions would recover billions that could help pay for healthcare, education, manufacturing support, aid for wounded warriors and more.”

You’re Guilty Until Proven Innocent
In the eyes of power-mad government bureaucrats, ordinary citizens are guilty until proven innocent—and they’re pushing for NEW, expanded police powers that will include mandatory fingerprinting, iris scans and DNA sampling of all citizens, national biometric ID cards, transponder tracking of vehicles (for mileage taxes!), even geographical tracking of citizens through microchip implants.
The potential for abuse and illegal snooping is massive—and is already occurring.
Two years ago, the U.S. Senate held hearings about possibly revoking the USA PATRIOT Act because of revelations that the FBI was routinely and illegally gathering telephone, email and financial records of ordinary Americans without proper authorization.
Fortunately, there are now steps you can take—100% legal steps routinely used by Hollywood celebrities and the super-wealthy—to shield yourself from government snoops and identity thieves who want to illegally invade your privacy.
For example…
A 100% legal way to move money offshore without violating U.S. reporting requirements. Federal law now requires that you report every bank or brokerage account you have outside the U.S. if the combined total in such accounts exceeds $10,000—or you face up to five years in prison and a fine of $500,000.
However, the wealthy have long used an investment vehicle that is exempt from such reporting requirements—offshore life insurance policies. A life insurance policy purchased from a foreign carrier is NOT considered a “foreign bank, security or other financial account” and therefore not subject to U.S. reporting laws.
What’s more, offshore insurance policies are “invisible” to the asset tracking services used by private investigators and government snoops in the U.S.
They allow you to take advantage of tax-advantaged investments and offshore funds not accessible to U.S. investors. They also enable you to diversify into non-U.S. dollar assets that may gain in the event of future declines in the U.S. dollar, economy or markets.
Best of all, offshore life insurance policies often have lower premium costs… better asset protection than their U.S. counterparts… zero tax on policy earnings… and the same provisions for tax-free borrowing and tax-free receipt of death benefit as ordinary U.S. insurance policies.
In a word: They are the perfect investment vehicle for those who want to escape the illegal prying of U.S. government snoops and predatory lawyers.
Best of all…
This Remarkably Private
Investment is Easy!
You may think an offshore annuity sounds complicated, but it’s not. It’s quick and easy. All it takes is one phone call, fax or email and the people handling the accounts all speak excellent English.
I’ll tell you all about this amazing offshore investment in your copy of Surviving a Global Financial Crisis and Currency Collapse.
Plus, I’ll also reveal…
How to make 100% anonymous telephone calls. Prepaid wireless cell phones (widely used in Europe and now available in the U.S.) make it impossible for government snoops to track your telephone calls. Available at many stores, these new phones don’t require credit cards, credit checks or the use of your real name. As a result, all of your phone calls are private and cannot be traced back to you or end up in a big government database.
How to bank safely and privately within the U.S. Easy, legal steps you can take to keep your money invisible to government snoops.
How to avoid leaving a “digital trail” with credit card purchases (and what you need to know about new anonymous prepaid credit cards).
How to make your real estate litigation—and IRS-seizure proof. If you think a problem is suspected, foreseen or probable, you can safeguard your home, now!
A simple way you can legally avoid probate and staggering estate taxes. This strategy lets you pass the lion’s share of your wealth to your loved ones—and not to a greedy government.
The biggest mistakes people make on their computers that leave them vulnerable to prying eyes.
And much, much more to ensure you financial privacy as it’s meant to be!

How You Can STILL Enjoy
a Prosperous Retirement
Times of great economic upheaval present rare opportunities for investors to make enormous, staggering, life-altering profits not possible at any other time.
People forget that many fortunes were MADE during the Great Depression.
For example, Joseph Kennedy, the patriarch of the Kennedy dynasty, made his fortune during the 1930s, shorting the stock market and investing in rock-bottom real estate that soared in value after World War II.
To make money during an economic crisis, however, you have to identify hidden opportunities that others are overlooking.
How You Could Have Made 245% Profits Over the Past Seven Years Following Our Gold Recommendations!
If you had invested $10,000 in the S&P index at the start of 2002, you’d have seen the market plummet from 1165.27 to 712.00 today—a total net wipeout of -38.8% over seven years.
But if you had invested that same $10,000 in gold coins—as we recommended in January 2002 when the price of gold fell to just $275 per ounce—today your investment would be worth $34,545, less commissions.
That’s a 245% return on your money—or a 19.37% average annual return for seven years!
And here’s the good news: I’m convinced we’re going to see similar eye-popping profits in the next several years as the government depreciates the value of the U.S. dollar… inflation goes through the roof… and the price of gold continues to skyrocket.

A Triple-Digit Buying
Opportunity in Uranium!
There are plenty of reasons to be excited about uranium.
The dawn of the 21st century reveals a world running low on fossil fuels—and the main source in the Middle East is at high risk.
Plus, more people are aware of how fossil fuels, or hydrocarbons, are suffocating the planet! Nuclear is clean! Many Democrats in Congress and the White House now recognize this.
Also, uranium is a particularly good investment now because prices are low. They’ve dropped more than 50% in recent months as the price of oil has fallen.
But this can’t and won’t last. The world’s energy needs—combined with a new push for reducing dependence upon pollution-causing carbon fuels—will force most world governments to turn to uranium as an alternative.
Discover how you could earn TRIPLE-DIGIT profits in uranium despite the current bear market in stocks. Order your copy of Surviving a Global Financial Crisis and Currency Collapse and get a special free gift.
Capitalize on Select Gold
and Energy Stocks!
Of course, for those people uncomfortable building a stash of Kruggerands and American Eagles, you can also capitalize on rising precious metals and commodities prices with select stocks.
Over the past few years, most of our stock recommendations have been in gold and silver mining companies and energy companies, including…
Up 215% in 24 months! I first recommended the uranium stock Cameco (CCO.TO) in the November 2004 issue when it was selling for around $16.41 a share. By May 1, 2007, the stock was selling for 51.70—a gain of 215% in a little over two years!
Up 145% in 36 months! I urged subscribers to buy shares of Bema Gold Corp (BGO) beginning in the September 2003 issue. It sold for around $2.98 a share back then. By the time Bema was bought by Kinross, it sold for $7.32 a share. That’s a gain of 145%.
Up 143% in 48 months! I suggested subscribers consider the energy stock BHP Billiton Ltd (BHP) when it sold for $20.10 a share. Today it sells for $38.10—a nice gain of 89%.
Up 120% in 36 months! Eldorado Gold Corp (EGO) sold for around $2.59 a share when I recommended it in the September 2003 issue. Three years later, it sold for $5.72 a share—a gain of 120% over three years.
Not all of our recommendations have done this well. A few have even lost money.
But in general, our gold, silver and energy recommendations have performed impressively.
And to help you capitalize on what I believe will be the greatest commodities boom in history, I have my best crisis investment recommendations in Surviving a Global Financial Crisis and Currency Collapse.
I’ll tell you about…
Why you DON’T have to depend upon the market to systematically build your wealth.
The secret to earning triple-digit profits in gold stocks, including my top five picks.
An easy way to invest as much money as you want in Swiss francs without having to report it to the U.S. government (100% legal!).
The right way and the wrong way to buy gold coins.
Ten small gold mining stocks to consider for your long-term portfolio…
My favorite energy stocks—and why I believe the price of oil could DOUBLE again in the next few months.
Why it could soon be illegal for you to move money out of the U.S. and out of reach of the government (to stop “money laundering”).
And lots MORE.

Saving Teachers’ Jobs and Helping Seniors and
Children; Fighting for Marriage Equality
August 6, 2010
Saving Teachers’ Jobs and Helping Seniors and Children
On Thursday, the Senate passed legislation to deliver critical funding to states and local communities and create and save 290,000 American jobs – including 13,500 teacher positions in California and 150,000 police officers, firefighters, nurses, and private sector jobs across the nation.
With this action, Senate Republicans’ tactics of delay and obstruction will no longer deny states and communities the aid they need to create jobs and provide vital services to the American people. I have called Members of the House back to Washington next week to pass this urgent legislation and send it to the President’s desk without delay.
Democrats continue to support the resources needed for the education of our children, for the health of our families, and for the safety of our neighborhoods. Congressional Republicans demean educators and first responders as ‘special interests’ and prefer to see teachers, nurses, and police officers on the unemployment line instead of in our classrooms, in emergency rooms, or on the beat.
Fighting for Marriage Equality
I am extremely encouraged by the ruling announced on Wednesday in the case of Perry v. Schwarzenegger, which found that Proposition 8 violated both the due process and equal protection clauses of the U.S. Constitution. Proposition 8 has taken away individual rights and freedoms, and is a stain upon the California Constitution.
We must continue to fight against discriminatory marriage amendments and work toward the day when all American families are treated equally.
Please feel free to forward this information to your family and friends. To learn more about these efforts, to express your views, or to sign up for email updates, please visit my Web site. I am now on Twitter http://twitter.com/SpeakerPelosi.
Sincerely,
Member of Congress

The question comes to mind why it would take the 44th President to do something that never occurred to the other 43.
Perhaps there were no three women qualified to sit on the USSP. It did seem that 37 sitting US Senators, today thought that.
It may have just been political and not sexist. Yet, I notice it was the republican women that crossed party lines to vote for Kagan.
Hmmmm

God, could there actually be 5 women at one time sitting on the bench. Could the world stand such sanity?
Could the silly republican women be proud to have their rightful place at long last beside those pompous men?
I am just so excited at the possibility.
President Obama you have lived up to your campaign promises for me. You will have my vote in 2012.

So, it took 65 years, and a Black President to send a U.S. envoy to Hiroshima.
Someone pointed out on this blog yesterday that most white Americans see no reason to question shock and horror they visit upon others.
All the while so very quick to erect emotional and physical shrines to shocks they have received from others that pale in comparison to the terror and destruction their Presidents have ordered.
So no white President saw fit to send an envoy to one of the only places on earth man has deliberately dropped nuclear bombs on large populated cities of civilians.
I supposed those white Presidents felt that as long as they didn’t send one, no one would question the judgement of the white President who gave such a terrifying order.
I suppose that would be true, because the majority of white Americans still think their shit doesn’t stink.
Must be nice, to suffer from such a convenient olfactory deficiency.
Along comes the 44th, a Black man and his sense of right and wrong is not so fixed in the contrived history shoved down the throats of the OTWs of this country concerning the motives behind murdering such large numbers of innocent civilians.
By-the-way none of those civilians participated in the planned and deliberate murder of six million Jews, and millions of other innocent men, women and children.
But of course those German civilians could not be bombed, because, oh yes, they were white.
Oh, what the hell, nobody cares. Here’s the piece. Whitewashed of course.

U.S. Sends Envoy to Hiroshima for First Time — But Use of Bomb, Then and Now, Still Defended
Sixty-five years after the atomic attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the bomb is still very much with us, and controversy continues to swirl over the decision to obliterate the two Japanese cities — sparked this time by President Obama’s decision to send a U.S. envoy to Hiroshima, for the first time, for the official ceremony today.
Already some on the right are charging that this amounts to an “apology” for using the bomb against Japan.
Warren Kozak, in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, has attacked the Obama move, equating it with President Reagan going to Bitburg and laying a wreath at graves belonging to SS members.
In contrast, the overwhelming majority of the 130,000 killed in Hiroshima were civilians, mainly women and children.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said U.S. Ambassador John Roos is merely honoring all of the dead of World War II and expressing the president’s endorsement of severe cutbacks in the global nuclear arsenals. No U.S. president has visited Hiroshima while in office.
Hiroshima, in any case, remains a vital lesson for us all, not only for the first use of a nuclear weapon there, but because of the “first use” nuclear policy the U.S. maintains today.
It’s a subject practically off-limits in the media and in American policy circles. Even the current, fine antinuclear documentary Countdown to Zero, which outlines many serious nuclear dangers (from an accidental launch to a terror attack on America), fails to even mention the possibility that the U.S. might choose to use nuclear weapons again.
Resisting a no-first-use policy, in fact, has been a cornerstone of U.S. nuclear policy for decades.
Yet despite some positive signs from Obama, I fear that moving very far in the direction of no-first-use is still a long way off in America.
Perhaps the strongest reason is this: Most Americans, our media and our leaders (including every president), have endorsed our “first-use” of the bomb against Japan.
This remains true today, despite new evidence and analysis that has emerged for so many years. I’ve been probing this for almost thirty years — in articles, a film, in a book — with little shift in the polls or change in heart among our policymakers and elected officials.
There has also been little change abroad — where the use of the bomb in 1945 has been roundly condemned from the beginning.
Indeed, U.S. support, even pride, in our use of the weapon has given us little moral standing in arguing that other countries should not develop nuclear weapons and consider using them, possibly as a first, not a last, resort (that’s our policy, remember).
So it all goes back to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
While I respect the views of a range of historians on this matter, and the opinions of the men who fought in the Pacific, I happen to believe the bombs should not have been used against Japan — directly over massive cities — at that time.
The war would likely have ended very shortly without it (or a bloody American invasion planned for many months later), largely because of the Soviets finally declaring war on Japan — an event long-dreaded by Japanese leaders.
Yes, there was a day when conservatives like John Foster Dulles, columnist David Lawrence, Admiral William Leahy and General Dwight D. Eisenhower — “We shouldn’t have hit them with that awful thing,” Ike declared — clearly condemned the use of the bombs.
They knew that the argument of “saving tens of thousands of American lives” only counted if an invasion actually was necessary.
We had demanded “unconditional surrender,” dropped the bombs — then accepted the main Japanese demand, keeping their emperor as figurehead.
But the key point for today is this: How the “Hiroshima narrative” has been handed down to generations of Americans — and overwhelmingly endorsed by officials and the media, even if many historians disagree — matters greatly.
(And see my piece earlier this week here on Truman editing the first Hollywood movie on the bombing, and an earlier piece on suppression of footage shot in Hiroshima by U.S. military film crews.)
Over and over, top policymakers and commentators say, “We must never use nuclear weapons,” yet they endorse the two times the weapons have been used against cities in a first strike.
To make any exceptions, even in the past and in a horrid situation, means exceptions can be made in the future. Indeed, we have already made two exceptions, with more than 200,000 civilians killed.
The line against using nuclear weapons has been drawn… in the sand.
To cite just one example: Before our attack on Iraqi forces in Kuwait in 1990, then-Pentagon chief Dick Cheney said on TV that we would consider using nuclear weapons against Iraq but would hold off “at this point” — then specifically cited President Truman’s use of the bomb as morally correct.
Some polls at the time showed strong support from the American public for using nukes if our military so advised.
And who can forget Hillary Clinton’s claim, during her run for president, that we might have to “obliterate” Iran.
And, as I noted, the fact that the United States first developed, and then used — twice — the WMD to end all WMDs has severely compromised our arguments against others building the weapon ever since.
Hiroshima was our original sin, and we are still paying for it, even if most Americans do not recognize this.
That is why I always urge everyone to study the history surrounding the decision to use the bomb and how the full story was covered up for decades.
There is certainly, in the minds of the media and the American public, no taboo on using nuclear weapons, and it all started, but did not end, with Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
This is what nuclear abolitionists — or even those who (like Obama) simply want a partial easing of our first-use policy — are up against.
(Note: My “Hiroshima in America” co-author Robert Jay Lifton on Democracy Now today.)
Greg Mitchell writes the popular Media Fix blog at The Nation. He is co-author with Robert Jay Lifton of “Hiroshima in America.”

If I may correct this white wash, No Greg not as you claim ” Most Americans, our media and our leaders (including every president), have endorsed our “first-use” of the bomb against Japan.”
No, what you mean is most WHITE Americans. And that would apply almost 100% to Your citing “media” and “our leaders” and all but one of “every president.”
As I said they don’t think their shit stinks. So why would Greg think otherwise? As for his speculation about continuing a first strike policy. You can bet the farm if a white president is siting in that chair and the perceived enemy is from an OTW nation, the nukes will rain down so quick as to result in the proverbial head spin.
As Greg pointed out. Noting has changed they are still white. And they still can’t smell their shit.
Yet, Greg and other white Americans like him show the rest of us that NOT all white Americans suffer from that olfactory deficiency.
But sadly, for the rest of the world, that may not be enough. As Greg pointed out during the bush, cheney rein “Some polls at the time showed strong support from the American public for using nukes if our military so advised.”
You want to bet on what percentage of those polled were white?
Perhaps it’s best that other contras have nukes, or most surely this country, full of racist white boys, would most certainly use it against some OTW nation.

So this creepy guy from Holland is coming to America to protest a Mosque being built in America.
===================================
The Holland Times Friday 06 August 2010, 12:08
Geert Wilders will be in New York City on 11 September, his spokesperson announced Friday. The PVV-leader plans to speak during a demonstration against the construction of a mosque near Ground Zero.
The demonstration is being planned by the organisation Stop Islamization of America and will take place close to where the September 11, 2001 attacks on the WTC towers occurred. Other speakers include Republican politician Newt Gingrich and attack survivors.
Wilders has long fought against the construction of a mosque in the complex, which the City of New York has given permission. He finds it “absurd” that a mosque would be built near a place “where Islam committed the worst crime in recent years. That is an insult to the thousands of victims and their relatives.”
Previously, Wilders has questioned the Dutch alleged involvement in the mosque project. The Netherlands contributed a one million euro subsidy to the American Muslim organization Asma. According to the PVV, this organization was involved in the construction of the mosque, but the government denies such claims.
==================================
Need more be said about the arrogance of the american white man. I was born in this country, but any visiting white man has a greater claim to what happens in this country than any OTW born here. Some white politician from the Netherfucklands gets to have a say so in where we islamic americans build our Mosque.
No wonder some angry people blew the fuck up some white boys buildings. White america has killed more blacks and wiped our entire black towns without so much as a peep in their history books.
My parents and my parents’s were born here I have as much right to disagree with my government as that white racist Tea party that was formed to take “their country black” from our Black President.
What the fuck makes the whites think this is their country alone? If I can forgive the bombing of 9/11 fuck them if they can’t take it. I may not condone their actions, but I can certainly understand their frustration.
White america is getting on the nerves of nearly every american OTW. So imagine what the arrogant bastards are doing to non american otws?
If they can find a building occupied by whites only, go for it.
At this point who the fuck cares but those white bastards.
Let the Dutch mourn your racist asses.
Now, how fast will I be condemned. Way faster than that white priest who put up a black man dress as the president for target practice for school children.
That’s not treason, or unamerican. But me disagreeing with their position on the 9/11 shit is too much for them to stand.
I say get over yourself and the fucking 9/11 shit. The number of dead pales in comparison to the number of innocent women and children you killed the first day you bombed Iraq.
It was murder plain and simple. But we are supposed to look the other way because you murdering white racist bastards say so.
I say fuck you and all your prodigy.
I’m with you Ricardo and Omar. Fuck taking this shit off these racist bastards.

Calm down Bost. I may be white but I am not insensitive to what you are feeling. You have as much right to build a Mosque near the 9/11 site as any other religious establishment.
As far as my race is concerned it is a given that a third of us will always be die hard racists. That’s because of their ignorance, their poor white trash roots, and the fact they have nothing going for them but their white skin. So the politicians play on that for their votes.
Then there is the second third of my race. The wanna bes, the almost middle class and the just made it because of the color of their skins. So it is in their interest to remain America’s preferentially treated class.
They don’t usually have the stomach for the severe acts of racism or bigotry.
But they have no qualms about benefiting from such acts. They are America’s affirmative action darlings and although they will falsely accuse the America’s OTWs of holding the title, they will fight to the death to continue holding that special position.
So they willing support any politician who uses code words that say I will keep you the affirmative action class of this nation. Hence it matters not how racist or bigoted the white candidate is they will support him or her.
This third will look the camera squarely in the lens and deny that racism is a big part of this nation. That is the third that you help the crooked white politician appeal to when you rant what I feel is just words because you have no other outlet.
He will use your words to say “see you need me to protect you from the OTWs.” I will keep them in their place. That fear is what keeps whites supporting what they know is police brutality and bias against OTWs.
They see the white policeman and racist politician as the wall between them and the outraged OTW who is becoming more and more tired of the white man being America’s Affirmative Action race.
That two thirds are so willing to look the other way when racists, and bigots join the police force to enable them to act out their racial hatreds without fear of retribution.
I am not asking you to sit by and take this “shit” from my race. But I am asking you to tone down the rhetoric. If you must act out do it. Don’t talk about doing it.
But if you do, will you be any better that the white racist if you do it to a person just because he/she is white?
What purpose would that serve other than to possibly harm an ally, or give emotional and fear mongering ammunition to those who would gladly sacrifice a few of their own to win an election or gain a bit more power.
That expression “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” means one should plan carefully out what he/she is going to do.
If you do that, I have no fear that you will target the deserving white bigot or racist. I have no use for them either.
We, believe it or not, are in this together. We are Americans looking to improve our country not at the expense of the rest of the world but as world citizens.
Citizens who care first for the land, the animals, and the human beings that share the planet with us.
We are not enemies. We are allies. Sure I have benefited from being white and rich. That two thirds suck up to me at every opportunity.
The politicians beg me to allow them to give me tax breaks and special privileges. The problem is that my class is no longer elite. Any, as you say, white bastard, can lay claim to being rich by virtue of his ability to loot the middle and poor classes.
The politicians have sold out to so many special interest groups that all the money in the world won’t save me and mine from getting some form of cancer.
The Chinese are poisoning our food, plastics containers and glasswares. The big Pharmaceuticals are poisoning us at every opportunity.
The big Corps are sending our jobs to other countries. And the people are shopping at walmarts or other places that sell only chinese goods.
Finally the banks and oil companies are only concerned with their profit margins damn the country and its people.
So we rich whites need you OTWs as much as you need us. I’m not talking about the one who made their money though fear mongering, race bating or our right theft from the government through government affirmative actions like Halliburton.
I’m talking about those who love their country as much as you do and don’t think they have any special right to it because of the color of their skin.
There are plenty of whites that are not rich that fit in this category. We do not all suffer from the neurosis of thinking we are better because of the color of our skins.
As Michelle said we prefer to put our claim to being special on the specific talent(s) we have.
I know that you wish no harm to our country. You love it as much as I do. When the national anthem or American the Beautiful is being played your pride is as great as mine.
It is our country. Let’s work together to take it back from the racists and hate and fear mongers whatever the color of their skin or religion.
Your call
Claire
They see nothing wrong with the degradation of the Office of the President since it is occupied by a black man.
They may not act that way themselves, but most will condone the actions of the racist third and all will openly deny they think the third’s actions are motivated by racism. They are the ones accusing any OTW who complains

of playing he race card. Don’t continue to react to their taunts. Face them squarely at the polls. Vote your anger.
Change this nation into what the Constitution once promised only to landed white men to a Constitution for every American.

That was certainly a mouthful Claire. I actually find myself agreeing with most of what you said.
I am not in a position to judge America too harshly because I live in a country ruled by Islam and it is hell for women.
So, I really don’t have any sympathy for islamic men in any country weeping about their rights. The religion is basically a cult designed to give men total control over their female population.
However on your issue of equal rights for all, I will say that America is still the place most women hear see as the place to go to.
It is reassuring to hear that you are trying to improve your country for all its citizens.

Several European countries have either banned hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils
or have set future dates for elimination of their use in foods.
Those people blamed this innocent oil for something she did not do.
There are many health benefits associated with coconut oil, so
yes you can call them omega 3 coconut oil benefits if you feel like
it.

Coconut oil helps to prevent inflammation, and hence it can also prevent acne.
Although coconut oil is mainly used within soap for
structural purposes, its added skin care benefits make it an element
not to be overlooked by the cosmetic world.
Take fewer baths or showers; they’ll dry out your skin even more.

Look at my web-site … Haarausfall stoppen

It has a high content of lauric and myristic acids which have a melting point relatively close to the human body temperature.
Because the under eye area is one of the first places to
start showing signs of aging, the moisturising action
of this oil is especially beneficial here. We don’t typically take natural ingredients into consideration when we plan our daily and weekly beauty routines.
