Giving Thanks

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 27th November 2008

In America, today is the day for expressing what we are thankful for in life…it is a day for giving thanks to all that you feel grateful for. I like Thanksgiving because it is a celebration of giving thanks, and if one can step into the true meaning, it can be a very moving experience.  It can remind us just how blessed we are and in today’s state, I think that we as Americans need to realize the abundance that we have, and a reminder is in order. And if the true meaning of giving thanks is honored today, it gives me hope that the daily practice of giving gratitude will become a habit.

I have mentioned that I used to send out ‘Weekly Gratitude’ to my friends and family. Unfortunately, as much as the ‘receivers’ and I enjoyed it, I had to give it up. But it does not mean that I don’t tell or show my friends and family how grateful I am that they are in my life.

It was also a habit of mine to start my morning writing down 5 things that I am grateful for. It always uplifted me to do this especially when I felt that I didn’t ‘have’ enough in my life or I wanted something more to happen. To me just feeling grateful for things was not enough…to see the gratitude on paper is powerful. If you have ever written down goals before, you know what I mean by the power of the written word.

I don’t write in my ‘gratitude journal’ every day like I used to, but today is a reminder that I want to be that diligent with it again. I saw results in the writing of my daily gratitude, and I saw an attitude change in myself, that not only affected myself, but those around me.  We all know how energy spreads and can be contagious and uplifting to others and ourselves. Why not express your gratitude and have it spread like wild fire?

And the wonderful news is that you don’t have to be an American celebrating Thanksgiving…  Giving thanks is worldwide :).

Today I am thankful for….

…the love that I feel from my husband, my family and my friends.( Lucy too :)

…how resourceful and adaptable I can be with change. And still laugh in the midst of it all!

…the freedom to choose how I want to live my life.

…all of my experiences in life that have added to the totality of who I am.

…my blog.  A venue to speak my mind and express myself to all of you out there, and a place for you, my readers, to do the same. The growth that I have experienced and the people that I have met have had a profound effect on me.

I am so grateful.

Hey ZL:  Oh…pig out and enjoy yourself! :)

Gleia:  So do I; I love bananas.

Hi Sheila:  Thanks for your comment. I so appreciate your candidness. It’s hard to imagine a woman with your smarts in the shadow of your man. Don’t think that I haven’t been there before; I have. I was just lucky enough to see the light early.  I’m delighted that you have chosen to do the same.

Readers: How will you express your gratitude today and for the rest of your life?  Share – blog me.

‘Who Would You Choose?’ continues…

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 26th November 2008

Good morning readers:  It seems the topic the day before hit a cord for some of you. I didn’t think that people had a hard time getting in, (because really I have no idea unless you speak up). I just thought that few felt inspired to comment. But I can see that I was wrong.

To me, it was a rather personal article, but I am delighted that it was thought provoking enough for you to try and write in to broach the subject again. Zen Lill and I had a convo about it the day I wrote it and I remember saying that I didn’t think that many would choose themselves as the one with all of the power, and I was curious to see if I was correct in my assumption. We’re about half and half – Interesting.

I read my article again and since we are still on the topic of ‘who would you chose?’ l wanted to clarify something that may have been misleading.  When I say, If someone’s going to have all of the control…If anyone is going to have all of the power, my answer would always be in any circumstance, ‘It is going to be me’, it means also that I would have the power to choose for someone else to be in control of a specific situation. I did not state that because I feel that I am all knowing – it did not come from ego – far from that.

I was not comparing myself to leaders of this world nor was I saying that I wanted to be president of the US. As I mentioned it was a personal article and quite broad in the scheme of it.  All of your answers were interesting to me and I’m pleased that although the day before was a lockout, you persevered.

Hey, I’ve got news too: Thanks for the heads up on Heparin.  Readers: Not sure if you read the health info or other such comments that are off topic and somehow get in. But as I mentioned before, I don’t believe in coincidences so if there are any of you with health issues I would pay attention. There is some good advice that gets in here, and quite possibly with you in mind…just a thought.

Hi Linda: Your professor sounds like a pretty amazing and inspiring man. How lucky you and your fellow students are to have a teacher in your lives that gets you thinking and challenges you. I miss that connection that one gets in school between students and their teachers.

I had to laugh about his comment about me. No one has ever called me a bullshit artist before. I find that quite amusing.  - I would love to see a comment from Joseph. So Joseph, if you are reading, how about chiming in sometime?

And how interesting that you would say that he would make a great wise ‘alien’. Why do you say ‘alien’ instead of ‘man’ or ‘human’? Anyway, I’m happy he ‘switched’ many of you.  I was initially for Hillary too but Obama’s got it going.  Hey, congrats on being a straight A student! The column will continue… :)

Hi Nawzad:  I know you have written in before yes? If it was you, I remember the last time you said, Sometimes I dream that you let Madaline loose and she destroyed all the evil men in my country.’  I cannot say that the thought has not crossed my mind. The more I hear and learn about women of the world, the more such thoughts enter.  How to weed out the good is easier said than done but it is possible…it has been done on other planets.  But I can see from your most recent comment that you are upset enough to not care about the weeding process.  And considering the life that you lead daily, (which no matter how hard I try I would never be able to comprehend) and now this recent action…I can understand your comment.

I had read about the acid throwing and it is horrible. I am really sorry that your sister was one of the victims.  I wish her well….and I wish that I could help, but right now all eyes are open. I can tell you this: You and the women of this world are continually on my mind. My situation is nothing compared to what you endure everyday and yet, at this moment there is not much that I can do to assist but write and enlighten when and if I can.

Hey George: Thanks for sharing your story. All I can say is I am happy that you said ‘enough is enough’ and you stuck to your gut and held onto your rights as a voter.

Rezar:  You should be ashamed of the way YOU conduct yourself.

Hey Jerold: AHahaha! Love the comment. Not sure we’re on the same wave but hey you have the right to say you want to control the world. Cheers!

Shawn: I think the readers have said it all…but I am curious of ‘respect’ and ‘relations’ is who you think it is.

Hi ZL: ooohh I know how much you like those artifacts :(- Times will change and I’m sure you will have the money to buy more later if you choose :)

Write on! Read on…

Where is your ‘happiness’ investment?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 25th November 2008

I took a break from the news, partially because I felt so entrenched by it these past many months, but mostly because there are other priorities in my life that have not let up to give me the time to watch and read. It has been frustrating as I feel a bit out of it..but life goes on…

However, there have been questions that have been going through my mind on a daily basis, and always they are in regards to money.  Just where is this bailout money going and is the average American going to benefit from it or just pay the tab?  I have more to say on this but I’ll save it for another day.

And then…People are committing suicide over…you guessed it ‘money’ or the lack of it. I was just talking to a friend whose husband works for Chevron and he was on Wall Street last week and the topic was ‘suicide’.  Wall Streeters are committing suicide. Not like the days during the big crash but it is still happening.

I heard this news while I was lying on a table getting a chiropractic adjustment. I was pretty relaxed as you can imagine but this news left me unsettled.  Suicide over the lack of money. It weighed heavy on my mind. All I could think of was, ‘It’s just money.’ Yes we all need it to survive in this world but isn’t life more valuable than money? Maybe I don’t have enough to lose that would make me want to commit suicide. But then I remember reading about the 80-year old, or was it 90? No matter…this woman killed herself because she lost her home – it was all that she had.  So suicide is across the board from the poorest to the wealthiest. I read this while perusing the net this morning:

Early in November from the Huffington Post:

After learning that he would lose his job at Bear Stearns and not be hired by J.P. Morgan, a 51-year-old employee takes a drug overdose and leaps from the 29th floor of his apartment building. Elsewhere, a futures trader fatally shoots himself after reportedly sustaining huge losses to his personal portfolio. And, thousands of miles away, one unemployed financial manager murders his own family before committing suicide.

All over the loss of money. What kind of hold does money have over us? Evidently too much if it is going to push one to take their life. When I get a bit frazzled over money, I always break it down. Meaning I look at money and what it means to me.  And it mostly means the ability to have a lot of ‘things’.  Money buys things. The basics: a roof over my head, food in the fridge, cash in the bank for more things’. A life of ‘ease’ if we have an abundance of it.  It also gives us freedoms and the ability to do ‘things’ that we can’t do without the help of money such as helping others who have less than us.  But so much of it is based on our own desire and need for ‘things’. Nothing wrong with owning and having beautiful ‘things’ – I myself, love beautiful ‘things’, and I am grateful for all that I ‘have’.

The issue is when you lose all of those ‘things’, how you feel afterwards.  How much of a happiness investment have you made in purely yourself, or is your happiness investment solely based on what is in your bank account and the materialistic ‘things’ you surround yourself with? Having a tough time keeping up with the Joneses?  The state of the economy can be a very humbling experience for many if you choose, or it can put you over the suicide edge.

I have never lost every ‘thing’  and I do not wish the experience upon anyone or myself.  But if I did lose all that I have, I would hope that I would feel a greater sense of joy like Eckhart Tolle did when he was poor and living on a park bench for a year.  Having no’thing’ and feeling pure joy from life itself.  Now that is living on a totally different level than most of us are accustomed to.

Considering where I am at in my life these days, I would say that I have a pretty good happiness investment in myself. You?

*********

Hi ZL:  Yes it was a good ‘catch up’, and always good to laugh – thanks for your time.

Respect: I have always said that falling in love could be somewhat easy but that it was difficult finding someone to love who loves you back just as deeply. But respect…I agree too that it must be a mutual feeling between two.

Love & Respect: Give it.

Listen To Your Mother

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 22nd November 2008

Okay this is to all you men and women out there, but especially  to men…and for once I just don’t mean white men…I mean ALL men including otw’s – got it? I don’t want to get ripped a new one. This pertains to your health, your safety and the safety of others.  And the reason why I say especially men because men for some reason have a difficult time with this very simple little task. No matter how much I speak about it to friends and family, I continue to get grossed out by the fact that men still refuse to do this and make it a habit.

So what is this simple task?  Something your mother has been screaming about since you were a child and if you haven’t taken on the habit now, your wife or sig other is probably bitching at you too.

It’s time to grow up and WASH YOUR HANDS!

If this little video doesn’t get you to change your nasty little ways, I am not sure what will and quite frankly, I am going to label you ‘hopeless’.

My cousin…and I won’t name names because if you have been reading my blog, you’ll remember way back I blogged about a dream that I had which included my beloved grandmother, and shit hit the fan big time in my family….anyway…my cousin (who is male)  who just always has me in stitches, tells me, “Shit man, I not only wash after I go to the bathroom, but I wash my hands before I even get near to touchin’ ‘my guy’!” Amen.

I mean c’mon guys…you’re out doing whatever you do, hands contacting whatever they touch all day long. Too much morning coffee…oopps gotta go take a piss. You unzip your pants, pull out the big guy, coddle him in your hand while you relieve yourself….and guess what? EVERYTHING you touched that day is now on your dick.

And ladies…say you’re meeting your sig other on your lunch break for some afternoon delight…Now I’m not talking about  flings here – if this is a ‘fling’, rubbers should be in the picture…but that’s a whole other story.  We”re talking about a ‘significant’ other…someone you trust and know is ‘clean’.  Are we clear on that? Okay, so moving on….

…You meet your sig other on your lunch break and you want to give him some head….well guess what? You’re not exactly sucking on something freshly showered and clean like you thought you were.  And girls….if you aren’t washing your hands either, and unless you give head and don’t use your hands, (What girl doesn’t use her hands?!)  EVERYTHING you touched that day is now on his dick too.  He might not mind but your mouth might. Kind of makes you think about it huh? Just want to give all my girls out there a heads up – yes that pun was intended. :)

Guys, Girls: Watch the video. Listen to your mother….WASH YOUR HANDS.

Hi Zen Lill: Sorry, I did not get it. And not sure why Caroline’s comment got in with all of those url’s and yours did not.

Hey Caroline:  I didn’t get a chance to respond yesterday. As far as the blond thing…Why is it that blonds seem to think that brunettes hate them? I don’t – Most of my girlfriends are blond, not that their hair or skin color for that matter means anything to me.  And why is it that ‘natural blonds always have to publicize that fact that they are ‘natural’  like it is some big thing to be ‘naturally’ blond? I think it’s funny, that’s all. Anyway, it’s apparent you didn’t get my point nor did you feel like addressing my questions. No worries.

Anonz: Happy to hear you are well. Thanks for the heads up the other day. And I will look into your suggestions.

Readers: Have a good one – I’m gonna go out and have some good ‘clean’ fun myself.

Racism Unveiled

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 18th November 2008

Well, I thought I was done with racism for the week but I read an article that just got me so heated that I needed to blog about it again.  This act of racism involves those that preach to us on the weekends if not on a daily basis….Well, they don’t preach to me because I am not a church goer. I am speaking of  priests.

What is it with some priests?  Obviously no matter how much they hide behind the veil of religion, preaching love and the acceptance of  all, true colors eventually emerge. First priests were boofing young boys…and now, what color are they showing?

Their racist white side. A Greenville priest says that his parishioners should do penance if they voted for Barack Obama.  Rev. Jay Scott Newman, sent a letter to all of his parishioners at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, stating that his congregants shouldn’t take communion until they do penance for supporting “the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president.”  Radical?  Interesting choice of words.  Yep that Obama – his ideas are just so radical.   That is exactly how I would describe our president elect – yeah ‘radical’ is the first thing I think of…uh huh.

The Catholic Church says that abortion is one of five “non-negotiable issues” for Catholic voters and that any church member voting for a pro-choice candidate would be disobeying the church.

Oh I get it…so because Obama is pro-choice, he is considered radical. Hmm…I guess  most of my friends and family are radical then, not to mention the millions of others  living in this country.

“Abortion is understood as intrinsically wrong, meaning it’s not made wrong by intentions or circumstances, it’s wrong in itself.” Newman told WYFF News 4’s John Eby.

I’ll tell you what’s wrong.  Why doesn’t someone ask the catholic church why they never said that if you were a member of the KKK or some other hate group that you couldn’t take communion? If anyone is going to be labeled ‘radical’ this group should be at the top of the list.  But no, the catholic church didn’t do a thing. But of course it had nothing to do with the fact that the KKK were white supremacists. True colors were flying.

And why did the church never protest segregated churches? Which to me, is wrong in itself. The answer: The catholic church is racist. Isn’t it interesting that they can take such a great interest in politics when it doesn’t involve discrimination against OTWs.

The Catholic church is losing ground. Exit polling showed that most Catholics didn’t follow that church teachings this year, with a significant majority voting for Obama.  And the nations Roman Catholic bishops vowed Tuesday in their annual meeting to forcefully (!) confront the Obama administration over its support for abortion rights. Yeah, like Obama is the first person in office to ever to speak about the freedom of women’s rights to choose.  True colors are showing…

The bishops said the church and religious freedom could be under attack in the new administration. Oh you’re so worried about your religious freedom – Yes, Obama is definitely about preventing people from choice of religion.  Please! What about my rights? You know the rights over my own body.  How easily you can take away my rights and be so outspoken about it, yet, when did Obama ever say that you don’t have religious freedom.  If he did, I don’t know about it. So someone please blog me if you have evidence of this.

“President-Elect Obama wants to make it possible for a minor anywhere in the United States to get an abortion without her parents even knowing about it,” Newman said.

I agree with Obama and so did 52.6% in California who voted ‘No on Prop 4′.  This is a whole other issue for another time.

Church leaders have said that they fear that the Freedom of Choice Act, which Obama has supported, would lead to the removal of “conscience clauses” that allow Catholic hospitals to choose not to perform abortions.

Again, it is and should always be a woman’s choice. In my mind, if you are a doctor, you are paid to do your job. If, you’re going to deny women the right to have an abortion because you don’t believe in abortion, therefore you are not going to perform your duties as a doctor, what’s next? Hmm…I’ll tell you what’s already happening.  Young girls and women are being refused access to birth control because of pharmacists “conscience”.  It is a vicious cycle.  You can’t get birth control because someone (pharmacists) says that their “conscience” will not allow them to give it to you. Then you get pregnant because of the obvious, and surprise…you can’t have an abortion either because someone says that don’t believe in abortion. Control. Control. Control.

Did I say these priests were racists?  Let me add they’re sexists too. More power to Obama.

Hey ZL: Happy you are back to being Zen Lily :)

Hello An American High school:  It is scary. I don’t want a race war but then I am not a racist.  It is the people who are racist that feel they must do anything they can to prevent OTW’s from succeeding therefore creating turmoil and war. It is any generation that includes people who are racist and they will try to influence any generation that will listen and conform.

What to do? Good question. Communities need to come together to support the OTW’s and this includes whites who take their freedoms for granted.  This includes whites standing up and fighting against racial discrimination even though they are not directly affected by it. As world citizens we are all affected. It’s about pushing for equality for all, no matter what color, race, or sex. Speak out – don’t be silent.

Your generation has so much power because you are the generation that is the future work force etc. You are the generation that can influence change now by coming together in mixed groups as you have done. I think it’s awesome that you can have your racial clashes because it brings forth discussion and understanding.  And, the fact that in spite of expected clashes you can still hang as a group. You have the desire to do something by the fact that you have inquired. You care and that is the first biggest step. I am inspired by you and your group. I also suggest you click ‘calling all women…’ under the heading ‘Madaline Speaks‘, located in the left column of my blog. It is a good read.

Peace out….

Gratefully your blog host,
