She Shines

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 23rd May 2009

I have very little to say this morning which is why I am writing so late. I would love to get into it with you Al and Brittany, as you know me, I usually have much to say. But today I am not inspired to communicate. I am sure that the conversation will take its own shape and form as it usually does, so no worries…someone is always around to chat. And if not…I’ll be back again tomorrow.  (Hi ZL: Have a good long weekend too :)

But in the mean time, I will leave you with a poem that I quite like. It is written by someone that I know nothing about…but who cares…I still like the poem.

She Shines

Through the haze, just below the horizon

Glistening, golden rain reveals itself

Piercing the soft, ivory cushions

Nestled just below Earth’s grandiose ceiling

Hidden inside her golden suit of armor,

Rests the softness of strength and courage

Protecting her from the storm that engulf her

Overcoming temptation to be the protector

Who is this woman

So strong, yet so vulnerable

The overseer of tumultuous subtleties

Embracing life’s abundance

Passion reveals compassion

A gentle soul full of life’s will

Absorbing all that is good

Rising above the turbulent

A whirlwind of vivid memories

Complacent in their tempestuous views

Glide swiftly across the ceiling

Riding the storm,

Conquering nature’s wrath

She shimmers, sparkling glamorously

Becoming the glistening, golden rain

Subtly piercing soft, ivory cushions

Through the haze,

Just below the horizon

She shines

Code 420

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 21st April 2009

Yesterday was National Pot Smokers Day.  Did you know? I’m sure there are at least a few of my readers that are ‘pot smokin’ hippie freaks’. And I say that tongue ‘n cheeky, with respect.  So…were you all out late tokin’ it up big or just takin’ a few puffs and layin’ low?

And why on yesterday,  4/20 was it decided that this would be the day to celebrate ‘getting high’? I’ll tell you why. Leave it up to marinites (Those are the peeps that live Marin County), to come up with a code, aptly named ’420′ to signify that it was time to get high.

According to the editor of High Times, Steven Hager, the term “420″ originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking students who called themselves the Waldos. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 a code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation through various vehicles like the music of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Other versions say 420 originated from a police dispatch code that identified pot smokers or that 420 was the number of chemical compounds that are found in pot.

However this day came about, it has raised some other questions and discussions. Many have been saying for years that marijuana should be legalized. And now with the way the economy is people are thinking outside the box and getting creative with the ‘green’….meaning, “Can the green bring in some green?”

Recently in California, San Francisco lawmaker, Tom Ammiano, introduced a bill to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. “With the state in the midst of an historic economic crisis, the move towards regulating and taxing marijuana is simply common sense,” Ammiano told reporters. “This legislation would generate much needed revenue for the state, restrict access to only those over 21, end the environmental damage to our public lands from illicit crops, and improve public safety by redirecting law enforcement efforts to more serious crimes. California has the opportunity to be the first state in the nation to enact a smart, responsible public policy for the control and regulation of marijuana.”

Huh…Interesting. Your thoughts on Pot? Blog me.

First All Black Female Flight Crew Flies To Nashville

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 17th March 2009

I’m a tad bit late in congratulating these 4 girls, but nonetheless, they deserve congratulations. Captain Rachelle Jones, first officer Stephanie Grant, and flight attendants Diana Galloway and Robin Rogers, who all all work for Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA), happen to be on the same ASA flight from Atlanta to Nashville creating the first ever all black female flight late last month.

They never expected to make history, but they did by chance when the first officer became ill and was replaced with Stephanie.

“We did not realize the historic ramifications of it,” Rogers said. “We were just like, okay this is gonna be fun.”

But Captain Rachelle Jones got it right away. She and Grant in the cockpit, Galloway and Rogers in the cabin — all black, all female.

“I said this could be a first, so let’s be on our P’s and Q’s,” Jones said.

“I think we had a little more pep in our step,” said Galloway. “I think we were just so proud.”

They took a lot pictures because their history just happened to be during Black History Month. How cool is that?

As young girls they never saw anyone who looked like them piloting a plane. Watch the video to hear their personal stories, telling us what inspired them. Today, they are an inspiration to all young girls out there. They are great examples that show young girls that they can be anything they set their minds to be.  And in my mind, we need as many female role models to be an inspiration, as we can find.

Congratulations again girls…I’m so excited for all of you!  Want to congratulate the girls yourself? Everyone loves to be recognized and appreciated. Click here to do so.

Hi ZL:  Yoga on the beach? Sounds so divine! I used to do that in Cabo…oh the good times we had there! So you finally rented ‘Mongol’.  It is such a wonderful movie.

Have a beautiful day! That goes for the rest of you readers too.

Looking For Sweteno

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 12th March 2009

Hello fellow Earthlings….

I just got a brief thought for you to consider.  Google the satellite that was recently launched by the United States government to investigate Earth-link planets out there in the galaxy. I think you’ll find it interesting. You bet I am.  And when you find something…care to share? Blog me.

~~~~~~~~
Hey Meleea D:  If you didnt get catch my typo yesterday…so sorry, I meant to say your anonymity is safe NOT your animosity!  Just where did that come from? Ugh, I guess it was a bit early when I was writing, and my mind was not awake enough. :)
Hello Zen Lill: I can honestly say that I am not attached to my tech products, nor do I feel entitlement towards them. I have never been the one who has to own the latest and greatest. Maybe that’s good….maybe not. I’ll check out your video though; I could use a good laugh.
However, I will say, I do appreciate them. I am grateful that when I need to make a call my c-phone is there to assist me. I am grateful that when I need information, my good friend Mac, is always reliable. But…there are so many days when I wish I didn’t have to tap on Mac, or turn my c-phone on. When I do feel tied to them, it is almost the same feeling I get when I ask the question, ‘Do I own my house or does my house own me?’ So I ask, ‘Am I in control of my tech products or do they run my life?’ I believe many people are slaves to their little machines. Who is really in control? Ohh the satisfaction I get when I hit the ‘off’ button!…..Something I am going to get pleasure doing right now :)
Peace out peeps.
Girls: We Are All ‘Precious Jewels’
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 7th March 2009
I woke up stranded this morning….at Tiffany…yes my fave jewelry store. You know the one. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky as Holly Golightly.  No, I wasn’t strolling by in the early morning, decked out in pearls and a ‘LBD’ (That’s ‘little black dress’ for those of you not in the know :), enjoying my breakfast, after a wonderful night of partying.
No, in fact, I wasn’t strolling at all; I was literally stranded. And not outside of Tiffany, but inside. Oh, but this could be good; the ‘jewels’ are inside! So it seems they locked the doors and I was left inside.  Impossible? Well, yes, in real life. But dream life…anything is possible. And yes, this was definitely a dream.
My biggest worry was that I was in a very short and tiny sleep slip with no underwear. (TMI? Sorry.) And bending over without flashing my ‘jewel’, was going to be a problem. But why did I need to bend over? Who knows…it was a dream and you know how strange dreams can be. Unfortunately, I wasn’t stranded where the jewels were – darn. No, it felt like I was the jewel, because I was locked up in some huge safe with an elevator like door. It was completely empty except for me and my girlfriend, also in a short and tiny slip.  And in real life, she happens to actually work at Tiffany. No kidding.
Oh it gets even weirder. Girls, you relate to me about this. You know how when you go clothes shopping and the lights in the dressing rooms are just a nightmare? The hideous florescent lighting shows every bump and bulge that you don’t see when you look down at yourself, and you never seem to see in your own mirror at home?  Ugh, I just hate that about shopping.  Well…somehow this room had that effect and instead of seeing yourself in a mirror staring at all of your bumps, bulges and that ugly ‘c’ word, you got to view it on your actual body in the form of ‘white lines’ enhancing all of those wonderful areas.  White lines saying ‘Look! See!’   Needless to say, my girlfriend looked ‘striped’ on her thighs and other areas on her body…and yes so did I. It was not a pretty sight. Oh…the ‘jewels’ were flawed. :)
Okay, so we went to a party last night at ‘The Factory’, a tribute to Warhol’s ‘factory’ in NY, thrown by Amoeba Music to showcase local artists.  I wore my original Emelio Pucci pants and the wild colors in the black light room came alive on my thighs. I take it, that this image was subconsciously thrown into my dream and was the influence of the ‘white lines’. Yeah, that’s it. Because really, I can’t look that bad. And if you want to get into the psyche of it all….I really don’t have a bad self image. So what’s the deal?
The last thing I remember was being rescued from Tiffany. I did bend over. Why? I really don’t know, but fortunately, those unsightly ‘white lines’ disappeared.  And, did I get a glimpse of the gorgeous jewels? Ha! – someone did! :) But me? No. However,  I did wake up this morning with a smile on my face.  But sadly, not a pearl or rock in sight.
Oh…what does it all mean? Who cares. I don’t. But hey, if someone out there wants to analyze my dream – go for it. But I will say one thing: Girls: We are all precious jewels! :)
It is a beautiful day – the rain has passed and I am just delighted. I’m also done. Enjoy the weekend!
