License Plates Speak Out

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 27th March 2009

NARAL an organization for pro-choice, are calling on Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who also serves as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, to veto legislation that would funnel thousands of dollars to fake clinics that discourage women from choosing legal abortion.

Yes the pro lifers are at it again and there seems to be no end to their fight to take away our right to choose. By opposing this measure, Gov. Kaine will uphold the strong pro-choice platform the Democratic Party adopted last August and stop an anti-choice bill from becoming law in his state. Gov. Kaine rejected the “abstinence-only” funding. Now he needs to step up and do the right thing again.

So how are these pro-lifers pushing their morals on us?  By making sure Bill  SB817 passes. This bill authorizes the creation of special license plates bearing “Choose Life.” A portion of the funds from the sale of these plates would be distributed to these fake “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) in Virginia. Why are theses clinics considered ‘fake’? Because their real agenda is not  pro-choice but to push pro-life.

For years, the anti-choice movement has tried to restrict, control, and manipulate the information doctors give women facing unplanned pregnancies. Unable to shut down legitimate public-health clinics, they are instead building a network of CPCs across the country.

And they are having a huge impact. Women who walk into their clinic hoping to get support are  not getting the support they are seeking. Harassment is dosed out by intimidating and emotionally manipulative tactics to block women from learning the facts about, or choosing, legal abortion.

Some of these organizations even give women medically inaccurate information about abortion, claiming the procedure is dangerous and can cause breast cancer, infertility, and mental illness. Lies, lies, lies. Women leave the clinics, shocked, angry and scared.

So what harm could a few license plates do? Don’t think that small things can’t have a big impact. – These license plates have the potential to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue for these organizations. Florida’s DMV reports that, in that state, the “Choose Life” license plate generates over $65,000 a month for CPCs!

Now is the time to take action.  Again, it only takes a minute. Thanks for all that you do. :)

This ‘N That Chit-Chat

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 22nd March 2009

So here I sit again, in front of my computer ready to write my write, enjoying my hot cup of cocoa…staving off heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and cancer, while I sit in bed blogging. Ya gotta love it. And I also love the fact that I  need no excuse from now on to indulge in one of my faves: Chocolate.

And it seems we are on the same subject today: Recognizing the humor in life. Sans the sickening article on fraudulent Feldman and his faux liver transplants. He is unforgivable and should have his liver removed for punishment.

But let me back track a bit and respond to some of you first before I carry on with today’s write.

Zen Lill:  Say “Hello!”….and have a great time with Lisa! I can’t wait to hear about the Ellen Show too.

Creg:  So, I am so blown away that you took my advice and called your daughter. I am so happy for the both of you. I hope that you both enjoy your new relationship.  And thanks to Gloria too for recommending my blog.

Tina: Your story had me in stitches!

Anna, Peter, Hafa adai:  Again I know so little about Guam. Thank you for posting a little history for all of us.

Anonymous: I don’t blame you about being upset. Getting into Law school is big. I will congratulate you even if your parents won’t. Congratulations – I hope that you do well and pass the bar on your first try.

Ned: Sorry for laughing but how can you live with someone who doesn’t bathe regularly? She gives a new meaning to the term  ‘dirty sex’. Could this divorce be a blessing in disguise?

Blake:  If she is heartless and cruel to everyone including you, why would you want to marry her? An example: Your mother walks out all dressed up and wearing her best sunday hat. She feels so good when she wears this hat but it really looks ridiculous.  Do you tell her when you know how happy wearing that hat makes her? Hell no.  Yet your girlfriend probably would. That is cruel. It is not always in the best interest of others to be so honest. In this case telling your mother that she looked ridiculous would not serve her at all. Let her walk out happy.  People who see her will probably love the fact that she is just so delighted  with herself. I say,  ‘Get a clue. Find someone new.’

Megan, Belinda, Tina, Jerry, Linda, Shawn and Cathy:  Thanks for your stories too. I am smiling and laughing. I love that all of you are so open and willing to share on my blog.

Phillip: You need to get a clue too. I think your girl is tired of driving and wants to feel like the woman in this relationship. Why not pick her up sometime and take her out. YOU drive and if you’re smart, you’ll start opening the door for her to get in and out of the car too. Start treating her like she’s your girl instead of a buddy. Just my thoughts…

Speaking of getting a clue…Sam: You’re ‘thinking’ of not marrying her?  If her words don’t tell you clear enough to get out, I will. ‘Get out. Find someone you want to be with and who wants to be with you.’

Holly:  Don’t pay attention to your dad. He’s probably envious and living vicariously through your chip bro. Congrats on making the dean’s honor list – keep in goin’!

You know, I think I’m going to end it right here. I wanted to write about something today but I’m going to save it for tomorrow, enjoy the ease of this weekends comments,  and just sign off.  I hope that’s cool with you.

Have a beautiful Sunday.

Finding Humor In The Havoc

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 21st March 2009

Good morning…

I have to say that it was fun to read the comments this morning. I enjoyed that we got off of politics and got  personal, whether it was purging or sharing stories from the past.  A friend said to me the other day, that at some point when everything is going down, you need to find the humor in the havoc and have a good laugh. And I thought about it. After all, if you are doing as much as you can, and still things aren’t coming together, life can feel quite ridiculous. And when it does, if you allow it, humor drops in and gives you a tickle.  I have had some moments with humor these days.

Hi Lori:  First of all, no man is perfect, but my man is better than most husbands out there that I have come across. I am grateful for and appreciate his good qualities. Now, your man…I know it must’ve been an upsetting time for you, but hey, in the end I really think you did him a favor.  What better way to leave this world than to go out with a bang? I hope that you don’t mind that I added some humor to your story today.  And like you said, ‘If the roles were reversed….’  I think he got just what he deserved. :)

Zen Lill:  Again, my apologies for being insensitive. I have been in my own little world lately…

Hi Creg:  You are right..men aren’t the only ‘aholes’.  Still, pardon me for laughing a bit at the fact that your young daughter was mimicking your wife’s love-making noises. Again, I know it must’ve been a difficult time for you but looking back, does it not make you laugh a little? I hope that you have moved past the bitterness and you have a fresher look at things.

Which speaking of…I don’t blame you for leaving your wife but also not speaking to your daughter feels a bit harsh to me. I think you are missing out by not having a relationship with her. I don’t think that your daughter was conspiring with your cheating wife.  I think your cheating wife acted very unfairly to her young daughter by putting her in that position. I think she is innocent in this. After all, it sounds like your daughter wanted to tell you but was probably told by her mother to keep silent all of those years.

What a horrible thing for a young girl to have to hide from her father. And how it must affect her as a woman today. It seems she finally got the courage at age eighteen to tell you and you write her off. I hope you don’t mind me saying that I think you should call her up and try to salvage your relationship with her. It’s never too late.

Jodi, Susan, Loni, Sandra, Michelle:  All of your stories were so much fun to read. These past few weeks I have gotten together with some of my girls from high school and we have been laughing so much at all of the funny stories that happened to us ions ago. And Sandra, thank you for saying that you found Colette’s story hilarious; I did too.

I’ll share one that happened to me when I was young that I find pretty funny.

I was meeting this guy that I had a total crush on, at a party, and we were kind of  ‘going out’…nothing official but we were definitely into each other. We decided to take a walk to a nearby park to make-out. Well, things got pretty hot and heavy with the kissing. About an hour or so later I needed to leave. So, we walked back to the party and my friend’s parents picked us up and dropped me off at home.

I walked in the door and my mother asked me how the party was. I went on and on about how much fun it was. She asked me if I went anywhere else. And I lied and said no. She said, “Michelle, where were you? Your sweater is on inside out and you have grass all over you.” I was so embarrassed then, and she was a bit ticked.  But of course we both laugh about it now.

I hope that 20 years from now I will be laughing at the times today. Enjoy your Saturday and make it something worth laughing about…now or later.

Chewin’ The Fat Friday

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 20th March 2009

So many topics this morning….

I know these A.I.G. bonuses are on the forefront of everyones minds.  I’m pissed about it. Once again, our tax dollars rewarding those that should not be rewarded.  And CEO Edward Liddy tells the employees to ‘step up and do the right thing. Return at least half of those payments.’ Okay, so it’s fine to ask them to return at least half but don’t include in the same sentence, ‘Step up and do the right thing’.  In my mind,  doing the right thing would mean to return it all. That would be doing the right thing. And really doing the right thing is to not accept those bonuses from the get-go at all.  It’s money that should not be handed out in the first place.

And what about Geithner and his position in all of this….what are your thoughts about him?

Anna, Peter, Wayne:  I am delighted that Obama is recognizing Guam as it should be recognized, and stimulus money is flowing your way.  As you mentioned Wayne, That is the good news.  But why is it that you paint a picture of Guam as being the dumping ground for all things toxic and bad?  I had no idea. The stats that you have been laying out on us are disturbing and shocking…from the smoking down to the chemical releases into your harbors. What is being done to prevent this mess?  Is there anything that I can do?  Maybe I need to research Guam a bit. Thanks for clueing us in.

Brittany: Thanks for sharing the letter that your friend sent to the New York Post. He was right on and I appreciate that he took action. We all need to be more active and proactive when it comes to standing up for ourselves and others.

Zen Lill:  Oh it sounds like you are really enjoying this new job. I am so happy that it is a huge success for you, and women are buying. I will see if I can come down and join the party. I’ll let you know. It would be great to see you!

Mike: Let’s not forget that in the midst of all this craziness that is happening in our country and the world, that we all are still living our every day lives. When you say, ‘Get a life’, it is their life they are talking about. They have one. And I don’t think that the stories that Colette, Tom, Viola, and Ashley shared with us, is silly shit. No, it may not be world headline news, but for them, it is a major headline in their lives.

I have learned that we can not dismiss the every day trials and tribulations that all of us go through because that is what life is. At least part of it.  Understanding and being compassionate for what others are going through in their own personal lives, is what makes us human.  There is a reason why the word human is part of the word humane.

To end today’s entry I will steal a line from Arianna Huffington from The Huffington Post, “Toxic thinking is worse than toxic assets.”  I think she’s got a point there.

Peace out and always….

michelle

Girls: We Are All ‘Precious Jewels’

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 7th March 2009

I woke up stranded this morning….at Tiffany…yes my fave jewelry store. You know the one. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky as Holly Golightly.  No, I wasn’t strolling by in the early morning, decked out in pearls and a ‘LBD’ (That’s ‘little black dress’ for those of you not in the know :), enjoying my breakfast, after a wonderful night of partying.

No, in fact, I wasn’t strolling at all; I was literally stranded. And not outside of Tiffany, but inside. Oh, but this could be good; the ‘jewels’ are inside! So it seems they locked the doors and I was left inside.  Impossible? Well, yes, in real life. But dream life…anything is possible. And yes, this was definitely a dream.

My biggest worry was that I was in a very short and tiny sleep slip with no underwear. (TMI? Sorry.) And bending over without flashing my ‘jewel’, was going to be a problem. But why did I need to bend over? Who knows…it was a dream and you know how strange dreams can be. Unfortunately, I wasn’t stranded where the jewels were – darn. No, it felt like I was the jewel, because I was locked up in some huge safe with an elevator like door. It was completely empty except for me and my girlfriend, also in a short and tiny slip.  And in real life, she happens to actually work at Tiffany. No kidding.

Oh it gets even weirder. Girls, you relate to me about this. You know how when you go clothes shopping and the lights in the dressing rooms are just a nightmare? The hideous florescent lighting shows every bump and bulge that you don’t see when you look down at yourself, and you never seem to see in your own mirror at home?  Ugh, I just hate that about shopping.  Well…somehow this room had that effect and instead of seeing yourself in a mirror staring at all of your bumps, bulges and that ugly ‘c’ word, you got to view it on your actual body in the form of ‘white lines’ enhancing all of those wonderful areas.  White lines saying ‘Look! See!’   Needless to say, my girlfriend looked ‘striped’ on her thighs and other areas on her body…and yes so did I. It was not a pretty sight. Oh…the ‘jewels’ were flawed. :)

Okay, so we went to a party last night at ‘The Factory’, a tribute to Warhol’s ‘factory’ in NY, thrown by Amoeba Music to showcase local artists.  I wore my original Emelio Pucci pants and the wild colors in the black light room came alive on my thighs. I take it, that this image was subconsciously thrown into my dream and was the influence of the ‘white lines’. Yeah, that’s it. Because really, I can’t look that bad. And if you want to get into the psyche of it all….I really don’t have a bad self image. So what’s the deal?

The last thing I remember was being rescued from Tiffany. I did bend over. Why? I really don’t know, but fortunately, those unsightly ‘white lines’ disappeared.  And, did I get a glimpse of the gorgeous jewels? Ha! – someone did! :) But me? No. However,  I did wake up this morning with a smile on my face.  But sadly, not a pearl or rock in sight.

Oh…what does it all mean? Who cares. I don’t. But hey, if someone out there wants to analyze my dream – go for it. But I will say one thing: Girls: We are all precious jewels! :)

It is a beautiful day – the rain has passed and I am just delighted. I’m also done. Enjoy the weekend!
