Making Love With Music

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 19th February 2009

I needed to unwind last night, cut loose…get my ya ya’s out in the form of dance. I love to dance and it has been awhile since I have. Ever since my girlfriend and I have gone dancing with our men (we always have so much fun), she has been inviting me to go with her to her Wednesday evening dance class. She knows how much I love to dance and thought I would love this atmosphere.  So last night I decided to join her and another good friend.

I was so looking forward to great music and a cool space to just get down and dirty.

When I arrived, I paid my 10 bucks and entered this candlelit room, which is actually a fellowship hall for a spiritual congregation.  It was a good size space with a cool vibe and I was excited to be there. I met with my two friends who introduced me to a few others.  We chit chatted for a few minutes until the music began to play and everyone started warming up

My body was stiff – I hate to admit it, but I can’t remember the last time that I did my yoga, let alone any type of stretching.  It felt good.

Three songs later everyone was up and dancing and I was still on the floor. Why? Well, to be perfectly honest, I was not inspired to get off of the floor. The music so far was not my kind of music. My girlfriend had warned me that the regular person spinning the tunes was not there for a few weeks and that this person had a bit of a different take on music. Uh…ya got that right.

Let me just say that I am one who loves music but I am not one that needs to listen to it all of the time. I don’t like having music on just for the sake of having it in the background.  Music needs to do something for me to appreciate it.

For instance, when I go to the Symphony, I love the way the music moves me, the feeling that I get as it enters my body and my mind. I could just close my eyes and lose myself in it and be perfectly happy. It is an orgasm of the mind. Of course, not every symphony has that effect on me. It may just bring out the joy in me or the child in me depending on what I am hearing and what the music evokes in me.

But, when I go dancing, I want the music to hit me so hard, to inspire me so much…that I can’t contain myself and I must  get off my feet.  I want to feel the beat, the pulse of the music enter my body…to move me in a tribal way…I know it sounds cliché, but I want to be one with the music. I want to feel as if the music is making love to me. And when the music is right, I can make love for hours. It is truly a sensuous, and yet very primitive dance between me and the song.  A good dance partner can inspire me even more so, but at times it matters not whether I am dancing with someone or not. My relationship is with the beat of the music. And like making love with the one you are in love with,  and you lose yourself in the act, I too can lose myself in the music. Now…that to me is dancing.

This class was not that for me, unfortunately. The music didn’t necessarily have a beat to connect with. It was Greatful Dead’ish in slow mo, if you know what I mean. Movements were very animated, and very playful for some. Others floated around the room in their own world, and some just rolled around on the floor.  No judgment, it just was what it was.

I believe this class is for people who want to connect with their bodies and emotions through music, which is fine. However, I am not one who needs music to connect me to my body. I am very connected to it.  I did this type of dance many years ago when I was seeking to connect with myself. I did this mostly in workshops that were of the ‘self help’ kind, and I totally got that this was probably what this class was about for some.

Minutes later when I finally picked myself up off the floor and became a wall flower for the first time in my life :), my instinct was confirmed. A woman walked over to me and said, ‘I know this is a bit weird, being this is your first time, but we try to keep moving even when we are standing.’ I smiled and said, ‘Oh this is not weird (and I thought, I go to Burning Man – this is mild!), I am just not inspired by the music yet.’ Her reply was, ‘Oh, well in spite of not being inspired, you must dance to what does not move you.’….or something like that. And she walked away. Oh Okay. And I thought, ‘I came here to dance my ass off, I paid my 10 bucks, the music isn’t inspiring me, and now I have someone telling me that I must move and dance to music that doesn’t move me.’

Being the open-minded person that I am, and since I was already there, I decided to take her advice. Fortunately, the next song did inspire me…well sort of. I floated around the room for the next 2 or 3 songs hoping that the music and I would at least start dating.  We did for a song or two but I knew the relationship wouldn’t last. The chemistry was not there.  We never did make love.

I said my goodbyes and walked away relieved that I was out of this uninspiring relationship. And yet I was smiling knowing that true love was always around the corner just waiting for me…and I knew exactly where to go.

Readers:  What is your relationship with music like? Are you making love or just dancing through the motions?  Blog me.

I have read all of your comments this morning and I will reserve my thoughts till tomorrow. Until then…

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

Sunday Morning Post

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 15th February 2009

Goood Morning!

I hope that you gave some good lovin’ yesterday….and got some too. I sure did :) I can see that we had a few poems posted.  We have some talented poets out there. Even one from my Doug. How lovely.  I just love reading about love.  The romantic inside me just loves receiving poems, especially ones written just for me - Thank you. But c’mon – What girl wouldn’t?

So, I slept in late. And….so of course I am posting this late. And being that it is late and it is Sunday, a day for rest and reflection, (I just made that up:)  that is exactly what I am going to do. However first I wanted to say hello to those that commented the other day.

Perry:  Maybe it was not obvious from Madaline’s comment the other day:

Failure to observe admonition could result in further loss of satellites attempting observation or interception”

But I suspect that the US and Russian  satellites that collided did not actually collide. I mean think about it logically. Two satellites and all of that room up there in space and they just happen to run into each other and collide. What are the odds?  My guess is that something else happened up there and a skirmish occured resulting in destruction of the satellites. It’s just an instinct. If Madaline is able to confirm, she will, because I am sure she doesn’t care if our government knows we know or not.

Madaline:  Can you confirm this?

Zen Lill: Hello.  How are you? I got your message and I will call you later today.  I hope that we do hear from Azza soon.  Miss her. And yes, I did see the Durex ‘recruitment’. I just love that video and can’t stop watching it.

Robert: I assure you, I do not know why you could only get in under Anonz, but it looks like you finally did. I also assure you that I have no idea why your poem is changing (?). Strange….

DNSR!:  I’m happy that you found a ‘safe area’ and I totally understand your prudent precautions.  I followed your link and I too am so touched by the words of Lasantha Wickramatunga.  I realize that the more I learn about this world the more that I find out that war is everywhere and happening all of the time. This is not  news that I take lightly. I don’t mean to put you off. I have more to say and I feel an inspiration rising that I will reserve for another day.

Oh, one last thing….The General info post on yesterday’s post….well worth the read just in case you decided to skip it.

Peace out…

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

What is Love?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 14th February 2009

Is it the desire one feels in the morning wrapped up in the arms of your lover?

Is it the warm feeling one gets when cuddling with a puppy?

Is it the feeling of connectedness that you get inside when thinking of someone or even of self?

I suppose it can be all of the above and much more.

I wanted to write about love this morning and what it means to me, since it is Valentine’s Day today. But I am at a loss for words, which is surprising for me.  Is ‘love’ that hard to describe? Instead of expressing my thoughts on love, I decided to share someone else’s.

It is by loving and not by being loved that one can come nearest the soul of another,  yea where two love it is the loving of each other, and not the being loved by each other, that originates and perfects and ensures their blessedness.

George MacDonald, 1824-1905

I just love the meaning of those words. Having the ability to love is one of the greatest pleasures in life.

I am one who loves to be loved, but if I did not have the capacity to love, would being loved, even matter? In other words, does one need to know love, to feel love inside…to appreciate the love that is given?

I know for me, my love is not conditional on someone loving me, but I do know that when I am loved, truly loved, the gates of my love open up, and my love flows in abundance.  It is the most wonderful feeling to feel the essence of who I am shine.

Enough about my thoughts. I’d love to hear your thoughts on love. And if you’re not too busy making love, blog me. Oh…and for those who had comments yesterday, I will address you tomorrow.  Happy Valentine’s Day….be love and give love.

Given with love….

Get It On!

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 13th February 2009

TGI Friday!

And if you’re hoping to get some this weekend…remember to put it on before you get it on! Seriously, to those of you having sex without a rubber – First of all, shame on you. Secondly, if you don’t care about your life, that’s one thing,  but at least consider others that you are putting at risk. Be responsible – Don’t be inconsiderate and stupid.

Okay, I wanted to keep this light and fun. If the previous paragraph didn’t inspire you to put a jacket on it, I’m hoping this humorous video will be a reminder and flash through your mind the next time you decide to have sex. And if this doesn’t inspire you, (and make you laugh out loud) sadly, nothing will. But, I’m gonna be optimistic and trust that you will heed my advice :) Enjoy!

*************

Burt:  Get in line. Hahha!

Zen Lill: I’d love to hear what you have to say.

Doug:  Oh yes, I am well aware of this! You know I posted this picture for you know who :)  And yes it is getting hot around here.

Scott: Bend over so I can spank you. And don’t love it too much like I know you will.

Meymaneh: I agree.

Madaline: Great to hear from you. And thanks for the Azza update. It is good news and I hope that it continues to be. So, the US and Russian satellites that collided on Tuesday was just ‘a story’ then eh?  Oh, I would love to hear her side of it. Keep us posted. Thanks.

Phoebe: Your story is an inspiring one and I hope that many more people will take an interest and learn.  Thank you for writing in and providing the name of the movie. I have not seen it but I am now inclined to rent it.

DNSR!:  You have written in twice before. Thank you for your reports. I know little of the civil war between LTTE and the Sri Lankan government, except for the fact that this war has been going on for decades and civilians are having a difficult time reaching the safe zones.  And it was unclear to me of your position until now. I need to discover and learn a bit more before I comment further. Peace to you.

Okay, I’m done. I know…I know…it was a quickie. (Pun intended :)

Happy Birthday Mr. President!

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 12th February 2009

Good morning.

So it seems the topic of yesterday swung to the stimulus side, no surprise. And surprise, I don’t feel like talking about it.

I have a few things to say today but right now I want to honor Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.  He would be 200 years old if he were alive today.  Obama seems to hold a special place for Lincoln; he borrows quotes every so often from his inspiring mindful, soulful, heartfelt speeches. It is written that ‘no other president possessed such compelling literary power and grace.’  Well maybe not until now. :)

Speaking of….I wonder if Adam and AH are gonna go back in time and party with the birthday boy, or will they surprise Lincoln and pull him to party in the present?  Oh…wouldn’t it be just delightful if he blogged a few words. Adam, I’m sure you could make that happen if you are reading this.

Anyway…

Happy Birthday Mr. President!

Zen Lill: I was just thinking that the other day. I must do more; writing about it is not enough. I have to Brainstorm but right now my mind is too full this morning with ‘stuff’ to say much more about it. You and I seriously need to talk. How I wish you lived here so we could just go meet for coffee.

Gina: No disrespect  to you but I simply can not order Madaline to kill at will for you or anyone else…especially over money.  I’m sorry but you are going to need to figure this one out yourself.

What else?  Oh yeah, my girlfriend Domi sent this to me the other day. Just for fun I thought I would post it:

George was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business.  When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune.

One evening at an investment meeting he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

Her natural beauty took his breath away.

“I may look like just an ordinary man,” he said to her, “but in just a few years, my father will die, and I’ll inherit $65 million.”

Impressed, the woman obtained his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother.

Women are so much better at financial planning than men.

Oh ya got that right.  Speaking of George…

George:  I really don’t have much more to say to men like you that I haven’t said already. FYI: Honor is something that is earned, not just freely given. Secondly, I never made an oath to ‘obey’ my husband. That was not part of my vows.

As far as walking behind my man – Get real! Here’s me walking all right, but not behind my man – This is me turning my back and proudly walking away from your BS. Get used to it! You may be following my ass but I certainly won’t be following yours, or any man for that matter. PS: You’d be lucky if any woman chose to walk by your side, but with an attitude like yours, don’t count on it.

Readers: As always, if you have something to say, say it here. Blog me.

Gratefully your blog host,
