Which Pup Will Be Chosen For The Presidential Pooch?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 12th November 2008

You know I was so excited for the election to be over so that I could get back to writing about my other passions in life, write about other important issues besides, ‘Who’s gonna be the next president?’…but as you can tell, I am having a hard time letting go. In fact, as delighted as I am about Obama being the President elect, I feel a bit sad that it is all over. I loved the camaraderie that was so present in the community. It’s like we were all in it together, for once…and really, we were. I loved feeling the connection, being a part of something big, and seeing the progress towards a common goal.

I didn’t have much time to focus on myself, which was a good thing. But now?…time to get back to real life and focus on my life a bit. Although I have to say, it was much more fun focusing on something else.

So, excuse me if it takes me awhile to let this election and everything surrounding this election go. It was a big election and quite frankly, employed some pretty important issues, so at some point or another they will continue to show up here. The election is over, but our economy and the many issues and topics of interest happening around the world are far from over.

Okay, so onto the topic of today…one of my fav subjects to talk about:

Which Pup Will Be Chosen For The Presidential Pooch?

Well…we know that they need a hypoallergenic one because Malia, their daughter is allergic. I heard that they were looking for a Goldendoodle which is a hybrid of a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. And in my opinion, a fake dog.  Yes, they’re cute but over-bred…the latest in designer dogs, next to the Labradoodle, another popular hybrid dog. Not a good choice for the First Family and certainly not a good message to the American people, when it is widely known that over 4 million pooches are put to death every year.

Obama did say that he wanted to adopt a rescue dog from the shelter (yippie!), “A mutt like me”, he joked. So I doubt that it is going to be a Goldendoodle – not many of those in need of rescuing.  And even if there was, I still think it would send the wrong message.  The last thing we need is for Americans to be heading to the breeders ordering their Goldendoodle puppy just ’cause the First Family has one.

“But ever since President-elect Obama mentioned to the world that his kids are getting a puppy, dog lovers around the world have been panting with anticipation to learn what kind of dog will become ‘first pup’.”  It is a fido frenzy out there!

So, I hear that Peru has suggested its native Peruvian hairless dog, a bald, toothless breed, which in my opinion looks cuter than it sounds. Ugly can be cute and hey at least you don’t have to worry about him chewing up the ‘first furniture’.  You tell me – here’s a photo:

This little precious 4-month-old pup named Machu Picchu is nicknamed “Ears,” ( Gee, I wonder why? :) was offered formally to the future first family in a letter sent to the U.S. Embassy. Also noted was that this little breed was once favoured by Inca rulers.

Hmm…not exactly the typical choice of a breed for the White House, but then the Obama’s certainly aren’t typical. Nope no same same here – thankfully.

Lastly, it’s a difficult decision but I am sure that they will make an informed conscious one, and….the bottom line is, the pup will be well loved, I’m sure.

Readers:  Any guesses on what the Obama’s will do? Blog me.

Hey Doug: Prop 8 should never have passed. As Olbermann said, ‘Do unto others…’ But people fail to honor that because it is not happening to them.

Hi ZL: Yes, I believe in the power of love too, and it shows face in very strange ways sometimes. And speaking of food…these friends up here in No Cal could help relieve the pressure cooker – come cook for us!

Hi Carl: You’re welcome.

Hey Heather: My feelings exactly. The effects of the economy as well as so many other things can have a huge affect on us…but this? In my mind, non whatsoever. There is so much more to be concerned about in life.

Anonymous: I’m not avenging anyone. My motto is still ‘Peace & Love: Live it, Give It.’ But who am I to step in the way of someone else’s  personal destiny? I wouldn’t want someone to butt in my life and prevent me from doing what I felt that I needed to do, regardless of whether that person understands or agrees with me or not. It’s called freedom‘the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.’ I’m all for that. I am in control of my life and I want it to stay that way. Somehow in spite of what you say, you feel the same – no?

My motto: ‘Peace & Love: Live it, Give It.’

Isn’t Love Worthy of Supporting?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 11th November 2008

I feel bad because I didn’t put any time into Prop 8. I focused on prop 2 for the farm animals because, simply put,  I really thought that Prop 8 would not pass…not here in liberal California. Boy was I wrong.  Yeah we’re liberal here but only in the coastal cities – I forget how drastically life and attitudes change when you head inland; It’s like going to another state.

What is it with people out there who just have such an issue with other people being happy and being able to express their love and commitment, regardless of whether they understand that love, and whether they like it or not?  Why would you want to prevent people from being able to marry and form a union of love?  Isn’t love a good thing? Shouldn’t we support the act of love in any way we can? Isn’t there enough hate in this world that we should all be delighted to be proponents of love between people? Shouldn’t we cheer love in any way we can?

To all of those people out there who voted yes on prop 8:  How would you feel if someone said to you:

‘Oh..sorry, you can’t marry the one that you are in love with. The law has changed.  I know it’s not any of my business who or why you love someone, but I don’t think it’s right for you to marry someone of the opposite sex anymore. Nope, you’ve lost your privilege, you’ve lost your rights.   I don’t think your love should be recognized and honored anymore, So sorry.  I mean, divorce rates are over 50% for heterosexuals so what does it matter whether you have the right to marry anymore? – After all…you have a big chance of it not working out. Get over it. ‘

‘But let me go and live my life married to the person that I love.  Same-sex marriages are the only marriages that are honored now.  I get to have the chance to make marriage work; I get to honor my commitment to the one I love, even if you don’t. Even though I have the freedom to marry my partner in life, sorry, you don’t get the opportunity to be married, because you don’t have the right to get married anymore.  Times have changed.  See ya. Have a good life. ‘

This fight is a kick back to the late 60′s when racial marriage was illegal in 16 states- It was wrong then to prohibit those that wanted to get married and it is wrong now.  To me marriage is a celebration of love and commitment. Sometimes it is just about mergers and acquisitions, but the point is….for whatever reason one is getting married, one should have the right to do so. And that includes everyone.

Out of all things to fight for in this world…things that really matter, things that effect us, we have people fighting over the rights of others to seal their commitment of love, something that has no affect on us whatsoever, but has a huge affect on those wanting to seal their commitment with marriage.   How silly and even more so, how selfish. Can we just get past this? It is none of our business who the parties are that are involved. Love is love…and isn’t love worthy of supporting?

Keith Olbermann from MSNBC said more than a few words on this worthy of listening to.

Readers: Comments? Questions? Blog me.

Peace & Love:  Live it & give it.

Early Voting? Make Sure You Have Election Protection

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 31st October 2008

Good morning!

Thanks to Anonz, as promised I said that I would post the poll pointers again. Since so many of you are voting early I wanted to bring it up one more time before Election Day, November 4th.  So here is your heads up…things to heed while doing the voting deed. :)

Either party can preset the computer to give a preset response. In most cases McCain’s name is posted first and the pressure to activate his name is extended to the space below which has Obama’s name.

If the person just presses Obama’s name and doesn’t bother to check he will have pressed Obama but the computer will register McCain.

Michelle and you should tell all voters to stay and see what the computer registers on the screen as to what vote was cast. He/she can just reset and hit Obama again. If McCain continues to post as his/her choice, a pole assistant should be called over to correct the problem. The voter should also call several government numbers*, including *CNN, *MSNBC and report their problem. I don’t have the numbers presently, you and Michelle can look them up and post them on your blogs.

An additional problem in those states controlled by republican employees is that they will do everything in their power to steal your vote. It is a badge of honor for them to steal votes for republican candidates. Hence, it is imperative that the voter check all his/her votes so that any other democratic candidate or Initiative he/she has chosen is registered as he/she intended to vote.

Anonz also suggests that you take your cell phone with you to the voting booth and take a photo of your voting card showing how you voted.  I did yesterday and photographed the section where I voted for Obama. Ya know…just in case. Not that I don’t trust Madaline’s bad-ass-abilities, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. It only took a few seconds and hey, it’ll be my souvenir…history in the making.

Any how, the phone numbers took me forever to find but here they are should you have any problems at the polls:

No citizen should be deprived of their right to vote by reason of their race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, or national origin, or by reason of fraudulent practices.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) encourages anyone with a complaint about voter discrimination to inform them of the problem, where it is, and how it affects voters. There are no special forms to use or procedures to follow. If you feel that your rights have been violated you can file a complaint under the Voting Rights Act.

You may contact the Voting Section of the DOJ Civil Rights Division by phone or mail at:

*Phone: 1-800-253-3931 or 1-202-307-2767
TTY: 1-202-616-1415
Fax: 1-202-305-0752
Department of Justice
Civil Rights Division
Voting Section, Room 7254, NWB
950 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, D.C. 20530

*CNN: If you experience any issues while voting please call our national voter hotline at 877.GOCNN08 (877.462.6608) and provide us with the information regarding your experience. This hotline is fully staff 24 hours a day seven days per week with a team who will investigate each reported issue.

* MSNBC: For information or to report voting problems, 866ourvote.org can help or call 1-866-OUR-VOTE.

Additional tips for voters:

Verify your registration.

Before going to the polls, confirm your voter registration at 1-866-OUR-VOTE. You can also contact your Secretary of State office. Click here for a list of sites.

Confirm your polling location.

Even if you’ve voted in the same place for 30 years, polling places can change, so make sure you know where to go on Election Day. Check Google Maps for your polling location right here.

Vote early.

Record turnout is expected this year, so if your state offers early voting (before Election Day), take advantage of it to avoid long lines and alleviate the strain on local election officials.

Remember your ID.

Every state identification law is different and many have changed recently, so make sure you know which forms of ID are accepted in your state before you get to the polls.

Don’t give anyone an excuse to keep you out of the polls.

In some states, wearing campaign paraphernalia into a polling place —shirts, a buttons, etc.—is against the law. Cover up your campaign materials to ensure a smooth voting experience.

Do not be intimidated by false rumors.

Eligible registered voters cannot be denied the right to vote because their homes have been foreclosed upon, they are late on child support payments, they have outstanding parking tickets, or they are students at local universities.

If you have been convicted of a felony, know your rights.

Many states allow people who have been convicted of a felony and completed their sentence to vote. Know your state laws and don’t be intimidated by misinformation.

Do not use a provisional ballot unless you absolutely have to.

Provisional ballots often aren’t counted until after a winner has been declared.

Bring your family, friends and neighbors.

Help elderly voters, disabled Americans, and people without transport get to the polls – no one should be left behind on Election Day!

********

Hey ZL: I have got to hear about this! Does it really work?

Doug: And as Madaline stated so clearly…men are so unwilling to have an otw be president that they would rather have a white unqualified man as our CIC protecting the ones that they supposedly love so much. To me McCain in office is just as risky as fucking without a condom.

Women Readers: Take Maddie’s advice.  Women, and just white women alone, are 51% of the vote – Don’t be an echo of your husband’s; make your own voice heard this election.

Readers:  I know many of you are from overseas and we have been so focused on ‘America’ lately.  I am ready for this election to be over and Obama to be in – how about you?  After November 4th, life will get back to some normalcy and we won’t be so focused on politics…or will we? Hmm…we shall see but my plan is to gab about some other important issues as well as some fun ones too.  Speaking of fun…

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

(My favorite Holiday! – Have some fun!)

Racist, or Just Plain Stupid and Lazy?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 12th October 2008

It never ceases to amaze me that people over seas are more informed and more intelligent about the state of our economy, and the presidential candidates, than some of the people in our own country.

Here is an example:

I received an email from my friend Pratiwi on the Island of Java, Indonesia. This email below was in response to an email that I sent to her asking her how she was doing.  I never mentioned to her that I was voting for Obama, and with her internet issues, (her internet is down most of the time in her area.) she has informed me that she can rarely read my blog. It has been about 2 months since we have corresponded. In her words:

“Oh, yes i (sic) followed the world news, and your election over there. Few days ago i (sic) even followed the presidential debate and I do hope that Obama gets in. Seems like he’s the one who would be able to bring the changes in America. Yes, the bailout and Wall street brought crazy things to our market here as well. Dollar reached 10,000 rupiaH/USD and can be worse. Prices of basic needs went skyhigh and many paople (sic) cannot afford to eaT (sic) 3 meals a day. So, we are still gratefull (sic) that no matter how bad our financial situation is, we are still together and we eat proper food (even though sometimes humble).”

And then one of my sources sent me this video that is just downright scary.  These people live in America, and seem so out of touch compared to my friend Pratiwi who lives in a very small town on the Island, rarely has internet, and yet she manages to stay informed about our country, and make an unbiased, intelligent comment.

So back to the video…It is filmed in Ohio. Do they not know how to filter that which is truth and that which is propaganda? We have unlimited resources.  What is their excuse? Is it just laziness? I really don’t think so. I believe that these people just want to believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts. I believe that these people are racist and in no way do they want a black man to be president.

The answers that are given to the reporter have no substance….nothing to back what’s coming out of their racist mouths. They will do and say anything to support their racism.  Either that or they are just palin stupid….oops I mean plain stupid.  Or maybe they are just watching too much of Fox news. They are brainwashed and just too dumb and too lazy to seek the real truth. You be the judge.

Hi Zen Lill:  How are you?  Glad that someone besides me got a laugh!  Yep..we’ll just have to wait and see how things go. Thanks for the offer – much appreciated. :)

I am out of here peeps. Enjoy your Sunday…

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

If The World Could Vote Who Would You Vote For?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 11th October 2008

Good morning.

My cousin Mary emailed this to me and I found it so interesting. Thanks Mary!

So…to all my readers around the world, if you could vote for our next President, whom would you vote for? Go to ‘If the world could vote’  website and vote. The results will show you who (what country) and how many people in that particular country around the world voted on who they would like to see as our next President.  Will it be Obama? Or will it be McCain? You must vote to see the results.

~~~~~~~~~
Ah..Al: Are you feeling the angst and worry of the country and taking it out on me?  Not too long ago your words would’ve sent me over but today they mean nothing. They are only words spewing from your mouth.
If you remember way back when I discussed advertising you suggested that I ask for donations and that you would donate. Do you remember Al? Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is?
This may be a PT job for ZL; she’s a trained writer, but as for me I am not, and it feels like a FT job.  This blog is work for me, and hard work it is. I have never been a writer and I am not sure I consider myself one now, even though I have written every day for the past 16 months. Unfortunately writing has never come easy to me, and to this day it is still challenging.
I don’t do anything half assed. So when I started this blog I got inspired when I realized that I could channel my creativity through writing.  I made a commitment that I would write everyday and do my best no matter what I wrote about. Some subjects are very easy to write and some are very challenging. But because I care about what is written, it is paramount that I read and research, no matter if my readership is a thousand or a hundred thousand.
It’s no one’s business where the state of our finances are, but if I can make money on my blog and not have to abandon it for work that I know I can make a living at, (I have been designing clothing for the past 20 years and I am good at it.) then I would rather do just that, so that I can continue to do something that I love and be here everyday for my readers who look forward to the daily writes.  It’s really that simple.
No Al, your words did not bother me. What bothered me is what Anonz said, “…I doubt the gov’t would allow her to experience that kind of encouragement.” If I do not make money on my blog, at some point I may have to abandon it. That is a fact.
This is not a ploy to get people to contribute. There are plenty of people asking for donations that are far more in need than I am and still…people don’t donate. And really Al, if there are only a few readers as you seem to think, then why be concerned that I am profitable.  As far as advertisers are concerned, they know how to get the numbers if they are interested.
Lastly, I have never had the word cunt used in a derogatory way towards me before, and especially not ‘greedy cunt’.  No…my cunt is very ‘giving’.  ”You have the most beautiful cunt.” “I want to fuck your cunt.” “Your cunt is the tightest, hottest, juiciest, sweetest piece of meat I’ve ever had.” Now, those are words that have been spoken. I never thought I’d write about my cunt on my blog. How delightful…
So…Got the visual? Just in case you haven’t, let me tease you with a little photo.  I know you don’t like my face, so I’ve cropped the photo just for you. I left my mouth though….just for a little added pleasure.
PS: Don’t try to zoom in and see my cunt. Hahhaha! I know you’re messed up Al, so I’ll let you slide. Tao’s been screwing with your mind getting you ready for that space travel that you so desire. Just remember….If we ever do have that ride together, I’ll let you smell it, but you’ll never get a taste of it.  You’ll wish you had the chance to be pussy whipped by this!…C’mon… tell me your laughing.
I just had to end there…much better with a laugh than anything else…yes?
Loyal Readers: You know who you are…Comments? You know what to do.  As always….
