Good morning!

Racist: You’re either a racist, or not and defend against racism, or one who stands by witnessing racism and does nothing.

Bullying isn’t much different. You’re either a bully, the one getting bullied, witnessing bullying and doing something, or one witnessing and doing nothing.

This is a story of kids on a bus bullying an older woman, saying horrific things to her, and everybody witnessing this ugly behavior does nothing about it.

I am outraged by the behavior of kids these days. Where are their manners and what type of upbringing did they have that they feel so comfortable badgering and disrespecting a woman. And what about the other kids? Where were their manners when it came to defending a woman who is being treated so horribly by others?

The ugly words that are used is simply shocking, and deeply disturbing to watch.

Karen Huff Klein Bullying Video: Upsetting Footage Causes Community Outrage (VIDEO) (UPDATE)

Karen Huff Klein, a bus monitor for the Greece School District in Greece, N.Y., is receiving an outpouring of support after a ten-minute video of her enduring vicious bullying while watching over students on a bus ride home was uploaded to YouTube.

WARNING: The above video contains explicit language and may be upsetting.

After the footage surfaced, Reddit user razorsheldon posted a call to arms in support of the school official who was brought to tears by the group of children.

From Reddit:

Now, as awful as this was, there was a silver lining in not only the universal condemnation of the actions of these kids, but also in a call for support for this poor woman. Her name is Karen Klein, and if you are so compelled, please feel free to reach out to offer support. She has been a widow for 17 years, has lived in the same town she grew up in and is about to have her 50th high school reunion in the same school district, and deserves so much better than the actions shown by those in this video. Let’s show her that there are still good people out there…

In the disturbing video, the children can be heard yelling at Klein, calling her an “ugly fat ass” and telling the widow, “you don’t have a family because they all killed themselves because they don’t want to be near you.”

Now, under pressure from the local community, the Greece School District and Greece Police Department are launching investigations into the incident, telling WHEC-TV that the children involved will “face disciplinary action.”

The Reddit call to arms has generated many comments showing support, including one that summarized a local radio show’s admiration at Klein’s lack of response. Thecall to arms also included an email address in case users wanted to reach out to Klein.

Klien Talks on ‘Fox and Friends’:

Readers: After this video went viral, there was an outpour of support for Karen Huff Klein. If you would like to give your support click here to read how you can. If you would like to donate, even $1, click here. Five thousand dollars was asked to send Klein on the vacation of her life. To date over $500,000 has been raised.

Thoughts? Give it up – start flapping your lips. Blog me

Barbara Espinosa’s Racist Remarks

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 21st June 2012

Bookmark and Share

Good morning!

The blog comments finally came in and it looks like one certain topic is on everyone’s mind. It’s on my mind too.

I found this write to be the best stated, thanks to :

‘I call him a monkey,’ says radio host Barbara Espinosa

Barbara Espinosa is a lady who hosts a radio show on KFNX in Phoenix, Arizona, and if you haven’t heard the clip of her as she purposely disrespected the President of the United States Barack Obama during an exchange with a caller, this is your lucky day.

Espinosa was talking to a caller who was referring to President Obama as ‘rabbit ears,’ when she decided to up the ante by attacking Obama’s race as she said: “I call him a monkey! I don’t call him the first Black president. I call him a monkey! I voted for the White guy!”

But, President Bush 43 is a White guy too, and how did that work out for the country? So in case you’re wondering, Espinosa is part of a programming line up out in Arizona with people like Laura Ingraham, Neal Boortz, and other right-wingers, and after hearing this Espinosa character it is clear to me that there is nothing worse than old ignorance, because you can’t be old and ignorant without a lot of repetitively embraced practice.

And, I don’t want to hear anymore about this post-racial society crap either. This society is about as post-racial as Fox News is post-biased, because you can’t be that unbelievably numbing with just plain, old facts, and an audience full of willingly, happily bought-in people like Barbara Espinosa is just what the conservative, Fox News, propaganda doctor ordered.

Propaganda is propaganda regardless of the content, so it should be no surprise that old adages like black monkeys, coons, and the inevitable, forthcoming slippage of the N-word will continue to re-emerge and surround the legitimacy of this president, as long as he is the president. From Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner complaining about Michelle Obama’s rather ‘large posterior,’ to Glenn Beck unrelentingly mocking and berating Malia Obama with a hideous impersonation of her before he overtly criticizes the educational level of both of President Obama’s daughters, to the infamous photo of the Obama family being depicted as a family of apes, the dehumanizing, propaganda machine has been in full swing.

Whether it’s Espinosa’s propaganda or the Tea Party’spropaganda, the overwhelming agenda is White supremacy, and the overwhelming, non-White thorn in the side of this institutionalized ideology is President Obama’s constitutionally elected ability to sit his Black ass down in the White House!

And however you put it, it’s just very difficult to justify the ideology of White supremacy within the reality of a Black president, and this is where the Black monkey/King Kong stealing away the good, innocent, White woman undertone comes into play through the age-old, Jim Crow fantasies of Blacks being the offspring of Charles Darwin’s monkeys, while Whites are legitimately put on this Earth by a WhiteGod!

So in essence, when some bigot who just happens to be White calls an African-American a monkey or a baboon, they are saying just as much about their staunch beliefs regarding White origins as they are about Black origins, and Barbara Espinoza knows this all too well. That’s why she made the monkey comments, and she was not just talking to President Obama. She was talking to me, to you, to anyone with a Black face, and to anyone who supports someone with a Black face—hence her statement: ‘I voted for the White guy!’

This is not just about defending the president. This is about no longer accepting racist spit in our ethnic eyes. Now when these Espinosa types call President Obama a Kenyan, it doesn’t have to mean they’re calling me a Kenyan. And when his critics believe that his ideas suck, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are saying that my ideas suck. But when they call him a monkey or the N-word, they are definitely passing it on to me as well, and this is when it becomes my fight, and this is when it goes far beyond the politics!

So when proud conservatives, along with a significant number of cowardly liberals and Blue Dog Democrats wag their yellow tails to express their desires that the president chooses not to respond or that I choose not to respond to this kind of monkey business is the equivalent of telling a modern day Rosa Parks to stay on the back of the bus and don’t challenge the system. But, when a system of oppression is vehemently despised yet still unopposed, that is the essence of true slavery.

Barbara Espinosa is just a wannabe, talk radio, big shot who was only able to garner her 15 minutes of fame by putting on an ideological, Ku Klux Klan hat and burning an ideological cross on the radio, and she should be bounced out of KFNX and off of the air quicker than Jimmy ‘The Greek’ Snyder was bounced off of CBS for his inappropriate comments about Blacks, which sound very tame compared to the monkey comments made by Espinosa. Nevertheless when and if she is fired, she’ll probably be offered a job on Fox News &Friends, or she could be offered a position with Glenn Beck. He just signed a radio contract for $100 million. He can afford it.

But remember this conservatives and right-wingers. If the president’s polices are truly as unsightly as they’ve been made out to be, you shouldn’t have to resort to burning ideological crosses on the radio to convince people of it.

*******

Readers: And typical of republicans, they spout off disgusting, racist remarks from lips that can’t seem to stop flapping, and then come back with an disingenuous apology, said only to CTA (cover their ass).  Barbara Espinosa is pretty much the same same.

Barbara Espinosa: The beauty and benefit that we have from freedom of speech is that we say what we mean because we can. The good news is we don’t have to hold back – we can say what we naturally want to say…what we feel, right off the top of our heads. No censoring necessary. That is also the bad news. And by the way, know that I don’t buy your apologetic lie.

Happy Summer! Peace out.

Good morning!

Police Are Using Phone Tracking as a Routine Tool

WASHINGTON — Law enforcement tracking of cellphones, once the province mainly of federal agents, has become a powerful and widely used surveillance tool for local police officials, with hundreds of departments, large and small, often using it aggressively with little or no court oversight, documents show.

The practice has become big business for cellphone companies, too, with a handful of carriers marketing a catalog of “surveillance fees” to police departments to determine a suspect’s location, trace phone calls and texts or provide other services. Some departments log dozens of traces a month for both emergencies and routine investigations.

With cellphones ubiquitous, the police call phone tracing a valuable weapon in emergencies like child abductions and suicide calls and investigations in drug cases and murders. One police training manual describes cellphones as “the virtual biographer of our daily activities,” providing a hunting ground for learning contacts and travels.

But civil liberties advocates say the wider use of cell tracking raises legal and constitutional questions, particularly when the police act without judicial orders. While many departments require warrants to use phone tracking in nonemergencies, others claim broad discretion to get the records on their own, according to 5,500 pages of internal records obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union from 205 police departments nationwide.

The internal documents, which were provided to The New York Times, open a window into a cloak-and-dagger practice that police officials are wary about discussing publicly. While cell tracking by local police departments has received some limited public attention in the last few years, the A.C.L.U. documents show that the practice is in much wider use — with far looser safeguards — than officials have previously acknowledged.

The issue has taken on new legal urgency in light of a Supreme Court ruling in January finding that a Global Positioning System tracking device placed on a drug suspect’s car violated his Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable searches. While the ruling did not directly involve cellphones — many of which also include GPS locators — it raised questions about the standards for cellphone tracking, lawyers say.

The police records show many departments struggling to understand and abide by the legal complexities of cellphone tracking, even as they work to exploit the technology.

In cities in Nevada, North Carolina and other states, police departments have gotten wireless carriers to track cellphone signals back to cell towers as part of nonemergency investigations to identify all the callers using a particular tower, records show.

In California, state prosecutors advised local police departments on ways to get carriers to “clone” a phone and download text messages while it is turned off.

In Ogden, Utah, when the Sheriff’s Department wants information on a cellphone, it leaves it up to the carrier to determine what the sheriff must provide. “Some companies ask that when we have time to do so, we obtain court approval for the tracking request,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a written response to the A.C.L.U.

And in Arizona, even small police departments found cell surveillance so valuable that they acquired their own tracking equipment to avoid the time and expense of having the phone companies carry out the operations for them. The police in the town of Gilbert, for one, spent $244,000 on such equipment.

Cell carriers, staffed with special law enforcement liaison teams, charge police departments from a few hundred dollars for locating a phone to more than $2,200 for a full-scale wiretap of a suspect, records show.

Most of the police departments cited in the records did not return calls seeking comment. But other law enforcement officials said the legal questions were outweighed by real-life benefits.

The police in Grand Rapids, Mich., for instance, used a cell locator in February to find a stabbing victim who was in a basement hiding from his attacker.

“It’s pretty valuable, simply because there are so many people who have cellphones,” said Roxann Ryan, a criminal analyst with Iowa’s state intelligence branch. “We find people,” she said, “and it saves lives.”

Many departments try to keep cell tracking secret, the documents show, because of possible backlash from the public and legal problems. Although there is no evidence that the police have listened to phone calls without warrants, some defense lawyers have challenged other kinds of evidence gained through warrantless cell tracking.

“Do not mention to the public or the media the use of cellphone technology or equipment used to locate the targeted subject,” the Iowa City Police Department warned officers in one training manual. It should also be kept out of police reports, it advised.

In Nevada, a training manual warned officers that using cell tracing to locate someone without a warrant “IS ONLY AUTHORIZED FOR LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCIES!!” The practice, it said, had been “misused” in some standard investigations to collect information the police did not have the authority to collect.

“Some cell carriers have been complying with such requests, but they cannot be expected to continue to do so as it is outside the scope of the law,” the advisory said. “Continued misuse by law enforcement agencies will undoubtedly backfire.”

Another training manual prepared by California prosecutors in 2010 advises police officials on “how to get the good stuff” using cell technology.

The presentation said that since the Supreme Court first ruled on wiretapping law in 1928 in a Prohibition-era case involving a bootlegger, “subtler and more far-reaching means of invading privacy have become available to the government.”

Technological breakthroughs, it continued, have made it possible for the government “to obtain disclosure in court of what is whispered in the closet.”

In interviews, lawyers and law enforcement officials agreed that there was uncertainty over what information the police are entitled to get legally from cell companies, what standards of evidence they must meet and when courts must get involved.

A number of judges have come to conflicting decisions in balancing cellphone users’ constitutional privacy rights with law enforcement’s need for information.

In a 2010 ruling, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, in Philadelphia, said a judge could require the authorities to obtain a warrant based on probable cause before demanding cellphone records or location information from a provider. (A similar case from Texas is pending in the Fifth Circuit.)

“It’s terribly confusing, and it’s understandable, when even the federal courts can’t agree,” said Michael Sussman, a Washington lawyer who represents cell carriers. The carriers “push back a lot” when the police urgently seek out cell locations or other information in what are purported to be life-or-death situations, he said. “Not every emergency is really an emergency.”

Congress and about a dozen states are considering legislative proposals to tighten restrictions on the use of cell tracking.

While cell tracing allows the police to get records and locations of users, the A.C.L.U. documents give no indication that departments have conducted actual wiretapping operations — listening to phone calls — without court warrants required under federal law.

Much of the debate over phone surveillance in recent years has focused on the federal government and counterterrorism operations, particularly a once-secret program authorized by President George W. Bush after the Sept. 11 attacks. It allowed the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on phone calls of terrorism suspects and monitor huge amounts of phone and e-mail traffic without court-approved intelligence warrants.

Clashes over the program’s legality led Congress to broaden the government’s eavesdropping powers in 2008. As part of the law, the Bush administration insisted that phone companies helping in the program be given immunity against lawsuits.

Since then, the wide use of cell surveillance has seeped down to even small, rural police departments in investigations unrelated to national security.

“It’s become run of the mill,” said Catherine Crump, an A.C.L.U. lawyer who coordinated the group’s gathering of police records. “And the advances in technology are rapidly outpacing the state of the law.”

Social Butterfly: Yes, there is an lackadaisical attitude of “What can I do?” Or “That’s just the way men are.” – Ugh! The latter really bothers me the most. No, that is just what men do because they can get away with it because women accept it. Well this girl does not accept, it. And like Alycedale said, “Now were (sic) are the women who can get behind you and help support and make our case.” Women are the majority – where are our voices girls? Let’s get rid of the cramp that men have put on us and our vaginas.

PS: Writing out that word is definitely not as much fun as saying it out loud.

Jim Messina: My answer: Yes.

The Vaginas Are Here To Stay

Good morning!

Photo from La Figa

Don’t you just love the title? Thank you Eve Ensler, author of “The Vagina Monologues” for that wonderful quote! Yes, /SB I heard, and I saw,  and I thought it was the perfect thing to post this morning.

Lisa Brown Performs ‘Vagina Monologues’ On Michigan Statehouse Steps

LANSING, Mich. — A state lawmaker who says she was barred from speaking in the Michigan House because Republicans objected to her saying “vagina” during debate over anti-abortion legislation performed “The Vagina Monologues” on the Statehouse steps – with a hand from the author.

Eve Ensler, whose groundbreaking play about women’s sexuality still packs theaters 16 years after it debuted, oversaw Monday night’s performance by Democratic state Rep. Lisa Brown, 10 other lawmakers and several actresses.

Capitol facilities director Steve Benkovsky estimated about 2,500 spectators – women and men – watched the play in downtown Lansing from lawn chairs and blankets. Billed on Facebook as the “Vaginas Take Back the Capitol!” event, the combination play and protest included political signs and chants of “Vagina! Vagina!”

Ensler, who flew in from California, where she’s overseeing production of her new play, said she was thrilled to be involved and likened the punishment meted out by the Republican leadership of the state House to “the Dark Ages.”

“If we ever knew deep in our hearts that the issue about abortion … was not really about fetuses and babies, but really men’s terror of women’s sexuality and power, I think it’s fully evidenced here,” Ensler told The Associated Press by phone Monday before arriving in Lansing.

“We’re talking about the silencing of women, we’re talking about censoring people for saying a body part,” she said. “Half of these people who are trying to regulate vaginas, they can’t even say the word.”

Brown made her comments during debate last week on legislation that supporters say would make abortions safer but that opponents say would make it much harder for women to get abortions. While speaking against a bill that would require doctors to ensure abortion-seekers haven’t been coerced into ending their pregnancies, Brown told Republicans, “I’m flattered you’re all so concerned about my vagina. But no means no.”

Brown was barred from speaking in the House during the next day’s session. House Republicans say they didn’t object to her saying “vagina.” They said Brown compared the legislation to rape, violating House decorum. She denies the allegation.

“Her comments compared the support of legislation protecting women and life to rape, and I fully support Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas’ decision to maintain professionalism and order on the House floor,” GOP Rep. Lisa Posthumus Lyons, of Alto, said in a statement last week.

Democratic Rep. Barb Byrum, of Onondaga, said she also was barred from speaking last Thursday because she referred to vasectomies during the debate.

“I’m overwhelmed by how much attention we’re getting around the world,” she told Monday’s crowd.

Before the play began, Ensler joined Brown and Byrum on the Capitol steps and called for an apology from the Republicans who barred them from speaking.

“These women stood for our rights,” Ensler said to applause. “The vaginas are out. We are here to stay.”

The speaking ban lasted only through Thursday, when lawmakers left for a five-week break. But the incident has garnered attention internationally and on social media, where the hashtags (hash)vaginagate and (hash)sayvagina are attracting a flurry of posts.

Susie Duncan, 68, watched the play while holding a placard handed out by the American Civil Liberties Union reading, “Vagina. Can’t say it? Don’t legislate it.”

“I hope this will spur people to go vote,” the East Lansing resident said. “We’ve got to change this.”

Brown says it isn’t just women who are upset with the House GOP leaders’ actions.

“I’ve heard from a lot of men. It’s not just women who are speaking out,” she said. Her father and mother attended the play.

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan – whose 650 members include men – criticized taking away Brown’s and Byrum’s right to speak. The group said it wasn’t taking a position on the bills in question, but on the lawmakers’ free speech rights.

“Representatives Brown and Byrum had a right to have their constituents’ 150,000 voices recognized on June 14, 2012. They were neither vulgar nor disrespectful,” the group wrote in a Monday release. “When the minority is silenced, justice cannot prevail and democracy suffers.”

Flap Your Lips Friday

Good morning!

Michigan Democratic woman lawmakers Rep. Lisa Brown, and Rep. Barb Byrum were banned on the House Floor yesterday after they made remarks opposing an anti-abortion bill the day before.

Brown used the medically accurate word “vagina” in her comments, and apparently offended Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas.  Oh, Jimmy boy, you love diving into vaginas, controlling vaginas,  but you can’t take hearing the word vagina.

Byrum used the word “vasectomy”….oooh…can’t say that either. Just the thought of it makes Stamas cringe. What a wimp.

And speaking of wimps, to make matters worse, House republican leader Jase Bolger, couldn’t man-up…didn’t have the balls to speak  to Brown and Byrum. Instead he relayed the women’s speaking ban through their party’s House leader, and gave no explanation as to why the women were banned nor how long they would be banned.

And from the HuffPo:

Ari Adler, a spokesman for House Majority Leader Jase Bolger (R-Marshall), said the lawmakers were banned from speaking because of their behavior, not because of their word choice. “They behaved in a way that disrupted the decorum of the House,” Adler said. “For Brown, it was not the words she used, but the way she used them that resulted in her being gaveled down.” In Byrum’s case, Adler said, “I hate to put it this way, but she essentially had a temper tantrum on the House floor.”

Temper tantrum? Please…Adler doesn’t have clue or he must not have children, because if her did he would know that Brown was far from having a “temper tantrum”. (Do you think Adler calls Boehner “Crybaby Boehner” when he continually sheds tears? I think not.) But ya know what? Would I blame Brown if she did? Women are sick of having to defend the rights of our bodies. I wouldn’t blame her if she sat right down and screamed “Leave my vagina alone!”, out of sheer exhaustion, knowing her pleas are falling on deaf ears.

Byrum’s ban was because “she spoke out of turn” after trying, unsuccessfully, to be recognized to speak.  This is technically a violation of House rules, which means that the Speaker has within his rights to reprimand her. But from what I have read this sort of thing happens pretty regularly. Legislators that speak out of turn only rarely are told to sit down and shut up, officially. But when it comes to men wanting to control women and their bodies, I’m sure it was quite easy for Stamas to ignore Byrum’s will to speak, and then ban her for doing so.

Here’s a segment from the Rachel Maddow Show. Watch these women flap their lips:

Readers:  Applauds to Brown and Byrum, and yes, State Rep. Rashida Tlaib too, for asking women to boycott their men, stop having sex with them, until bills such as these move out of the House. Is that what it’s gonna take guys?

Because it’s getting worse out there for woman, and we need some help. We need everyone to start flapping their lips in support of women and our rights. Because from what I can see, basically, when it comes to our bodies we are told to “shut the fuck up” when we start flapping our upper lips…and when it comes to flapping the lower lips it’s, “c’mon baby spread ‘em whenever we want it.” “I want Control baby, control.”

Fuck that. You get control when I say you do…when I want you to.

It’s Friday…the women flapped their lips. Now it’s your turn – start flapping. Blog me.

I can’t post: Sorry  - please keep trying.

/SB: Fan of Hillary. She is a girl’s girl –  Love it.

…Just saw some more comments come in but this girl has got to run. Peace out.
