Flap Your Lips Friday
Posted by Michelle Moquin on June 15th, 2012
Good morning!
Michigan Democratic woman lawmakers Rep. Lisa Brown, and Rep. Barb Byrum were banned on the House Floor yesterday after they made remarks opposing an anti-abortion bill the day before.
Brown used the medically accurate word “vagina” in her comments, and apparently offended Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas. Oh, Jimmy boy, you love diving into vaginas, controlling vaginas, but you can’t take hearing the word vagina.
Byrum used the word “vasectomy”….oooh…can’t say that either. Just the thought of it makes Stamas cringe. What a wimp.
And speaking of wimps, to make matters worse, House republican leader Jase Bolger, couldn’t man-up…didn’t have the balls to speak to Brown and Byrum. Instead he relayed the women’s speaking ban through their party’s House leader, and gave no explanation as to why the women were banned nor how long they would be banned.
And from the HuffPo:
Ari Adler, a spokesman for House Majority Leader Jase Bolger (R-Marshall), said the lawmakers were banned from speaking because of their behavior, not because of their word choice. “They behaved in a way that disrupted the decorum of the House,” Adler said. “For Brown, it was not the words she used, but the way she used them that resulted in her being gaveled down.” In Byrum’s case, Adler said, “I hate to put it this way, but she essentially had a temper tantrum on the House floor.”
Temper tantrum? Please…Adler doesn’t have clue or he must not have children, because if her did he would know that Brown was far from having a “temper tantrum”. (Do you think Adler calls Boehner “Crybaby Boehner” when he continually sheds tears? I think not.) But ya know what? Would I blame Brown if she did? Women are sick of having to defend the rights of our bodies. I wouldn’t blame her if she sat right down and screamed “Leave my vagina alone!”, out of sheer exhaustion, knowing her pleas are falling on deaf ears.
Byrum’s ban was because “she spoke out of turn” after trying, unsuccessfully, to be recognized to speak. This is technically a violation of House rules, which means that the Speaker has within his rights to reprimand her. But from what I have read this sort of thing happens pretty regularly. Legislators that speak out of turn only rarely are told to sit down and shut up, officially. But when it comes to men wanting to control women and their bodies, I’m sure it was quite easy for Stamas to ignore Byrum’s will to speak, and then ban her for doing so.
Here’s a segment from the Rachel Maddow Show. Watch these women flap their lips:
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Readers: Applauds to Brown and Byrum, and yes, State Rep. Rashida Tlaib too, for asking women to boycott their men, stop having sex with them, until bills such as these move out of the House. Is that what it’s gonna take guys?
Because it’s getting worse out there for woman, and we need some help. We need everyone to start flapping their lips in support of women and our rights. Because from what I can see, basically, when it comes to our bodies we are told to “shut the fuck up” when we start flapping our upper lips…and when it comes to flapping the lower lips it’s, “c’mon baby spread ‘em whenever we want it.” “I want Control baby, control.”
Fuck that. You get control when I say you do…when I want you to.
It’s Friday…the women flapped their lips. Now it’s your turn – start flapping. Blog me.
I can’t post: Sorry - please keep trying.

Yeah, I love when women get shut down for speaking up yet it’s readily accepted that men will do so.
Banning her for using the word vagina, when clearly that’s what they’re chatting about is absurd. I love how repub men are basically so uptight about sex and it’s variety of – outcomes…and their obsession with micro-managing women’s lives and bodies.
Love Tlaib’s call…right on.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Misch, call me whenever, no presh – would love to chat though so – I’ll be in and out and around all weekend : ) catch me if you can : )

“Sources: Immunity granted to certain immigrants,” is the title of an AP story this morning. The lede reads: “The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies.”
A political move, plain and simple. This president has been asleep at the wheel for 3+ years, and will yet again circumvent Congress because he has zero political capital left. November’s choice couldn’t be starker. More to come from this for sure…
Walker’s choice for Romney veep: Paul Ryan
From Gizzi’s story: “[Scott] Walker [at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast yesterday] went on to make clear his first choice for Romney’s running mate was his ‘fellow cheese-head [Republican Rep.] Paul Ryan,’ who, he said, ‘has incredible respect on both sides of the aisle,” and that is “even among people who don’t agree with him.’ Read more below. PLUS, he won’t pursue right-to-work in Wisconsin… for now.
Florida ‘purge’ update: 96 illegal voters found and counting
Many states are trying to quell a surge from the left in regard to the voter ID legislation. Democrats and their liberal special interest groups are working hard to make sure “every vote counts” this November, which actually means, “We’re not sure Obama can win, so let’s get everyone we can, legal or illegal, to vote for him! John Hayward has been following this story out of Florida, so make sure to read it below. Sen. Rubio and Rep. Allen West have voiced their concerns.
And as I conclude, a great, must read, featuring a shout out to Gizzi: Strange coincidences lead to fascinating conversations with former 5-term congressman
That’s all from me. Have a nice weekend!

The most sickening thing is how these women who are the voice of their constituents both men and women are being ignored an silence. Weather you are for the cause or against the cause this should outrage you.
June 15th, 2012 at 3:55 pm
It is the right of every women to chose if she wants to have the child, if your not a women who is faced with this choice then it is none of your business period.
I hear your opinions about how this is wrong, but I do not hear you volunteering to support these kids. I hear you bring in God, well guess what again, someone else s relationship with God is none of your business.
June 15th, 2012 at 3:56 pm
Have you ever heard the stories of child abuse that some children suffer. I know first hand what happens to little girl that have no one to protect them.
All these same Republicans also voted against equal pay for women. So if they are so concerned for fetus why then aren’t they concerned for the already born.
Why are they not rushing some bill through the house to do something about all the fathers who don’t support their children?
June 15th, 2012 at 3:57 pm
Have you ever been pregnant? Have you ever been faced to raise a child on your own because Daddy got scarred and ran? Have you ever had to consider that your life was on the line if you went through with the pregnancy?
If you die who is going to take care of that child? Are your voices being silenced? Why would you have a child to raise it in poverty? Have you ever had to watch a child suffer because it was hungry and there was nothing to eat? Have you ever had to live without the basics?
June 15th, 2012 at 3:58 pm
It’s embarrassing that we have such raunchy representatives in Michigan. Therapeutic abortions? What about…”Hey, you are a minority and in poverty; let’s get rid of this baby.”
These raunchy women sure are for “women’s rights”, aren’t they? There are certain things that professionals just shouldn’t say…Please stop trying to force your views on others, Brown and Byrum. Are either of you proud of your own abortions? We don’t want to hear about your private parts.
June 15th, 2012 at 4:01 pm
I have often wondered why the Left so rabidly defends its often extreme views on the abortion debate. It strikes me that the crowing plank of the Left’s platform is the RIGHT to kill babies in the mother’s womb (tomb). Seriously?!? You’re gonna go to the wall for THIS?!?! Unreal.
But, we mustn’t forget that when it comes to the Left, blood MUST be shed (think Stalin, Pol Pot, Mugabe, Mao, etc.) The more innocent the bloodshed, the more their demon-god is appeased and will grant a rich harvest and hold back the inclement weather….
June 15th, 2012 at 4:09 pm
If you women don’t want to have babies, then quit having unprotected sex with jerks. Be responsible for yourself and the community and wait until you find a good, decent man who will honor his responsibility to be a father.
I’m not saying that you need to be married to have sex (that would of course be the best option) but don’t just go around splaying out your goods to anybody with a pulse.
You women have the power and you should be using it wisely. Believe it or not there are men out there who are honorable and good, you just have to weed out the bad ones until you find one. Far too many women are jumping into the sack with guy after guy trying to find “the one”.
They get pregnant and find that the guy could care less about his responsibilities (if they even know who the father is), then they have to get on welfare because they can’t work and raise their kids at the same time.
Can’t you all see that this cycle needs to be broken and that killing more babies is NOT the answer! This has absolutely nothing to do with what your religious beliefs are, but has everything to do with being a decent, civil human being.
June 15th, 2012 at 4:10 pm
Libby, What about the blood shed from your rightie president GWB in his feable attempt to spread democracy in the middle east?
So the right is so pro life, except when they are killing millions of iraqis? Except when they could care less is poor people have access to life planning?
If your party was so “Christian” then why doesn’t it fight abortion by leading more people to God? People who have a true relationship with God don’t have abortions. The right simply wants to control everyone, and they use fear tactics like your illogical statement above
June 15th, 2012 at 4:12 pm
It’s absolutely amazing that a bunch of men are deciding what is viewed as primarily a woman’s issue only because so many men don’t want to be fathers while other men value the sanctity of life only before the child is born.
We have an epidemic of fatherless children already but they don’t matter because they are already born. Apparently few see the connection between these abandoned children and the fact that we have the highest incarcerated population in the world.
So let’s make sure we have more unwanted kids and push more women into near welfare states who cannot afford to even provide medical coverage for their children.
Am I the only one who sees a vicious cycle here? If we are going to mandate that all these unwanted babies are born then we should hold the fathers as responsible for their lives as the mothers.

Hair-Product Alert: Beware of Formaldehyde
There are many toxic chemicals out there, but one in particular has made headlines because it has been found in hair salon straightening products—and that’s formaldehyde, the colorless gas that, at room temperature, emits a noxious odor.
It is believed to cause cancer and allergies…to disrupt the immune system…and is linked to incidents of hair loss, nosebleeds and respiratory problems.
As it turns out, formaldehyde also has been found in hair products used at home, such as shampoos and styling gels.
Good news/bad news:
Formaldehyde in baby shampoo (yes, in products for babies) also made headlines last year—and for good reason. Last year, Johnson & Johnson announced that it was phasing out formaldehyde-releasing chemicals in its baby products.
So there’s one less product to worry about. But as an Environmental Working Group (EWG) report pointed out, when it examined 16 hair-straightening products used in beauty salons, 15 of them not only contained formaldehyde, they exceeded the safety limit set by the US government.
The EWG, a consumer protection organization, is concerned that companies are using products that contain agents that turn into formaldehyde gas when exposed to the air and/or the heat of straightening irons.
This might mean that even if the manufacturer didn’t add pure formaldehyde, formaldehyde is being created by a chemical reaction inside the bottle. When you open the bottle, the gas is released.
Speak to your hairdresser about the products used at your salon.
Read the labels of the products you use at home. Formaldehyde-releasing preservative agents can be found in some shampoos and styling gels.
They are called quaternium-15…dimethyl-dimethyl (DMDM) hydantoin…imidazolidinyl urea…diazolidinyl urea…and sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, among others.
To ensure that the hair products you use at home are safe, consider using products from companies such as Aubrey Organics, EcoColors and Modern Organic Products, which use nontoxic ingredients. They are available at some health-food stores and online.

Here’s another first for an American President, being heckled by a reporter during one of his speeches. And by a member of the White House Correspondents.
But it happened to this black president. Once again we see that their are two distinct set of rules. One for the white boy and one for the rest of us.
The asshole was Neil Monroe with the Daily Caller.
To those hypocrites that know I am calling them on their tolerance of racism here is a response from former George W. Bush spokesman Tony Fratto, “Reporters don’t interrupt presidential statements. Period. @NeilMunroDC should be banned from WH. #fb.”
That is the problem with the white boy and the white race in general. The white boy is basically an out right racist. The majority of the white race continues to look the other way whenever he practices his racists ways.
Guaranteed he will be defended as some kind of hero. We don’t live in one of those countries where the news media is quieted. There was nothing “brave or courageous” about the assholes behavior. It was simply rude. But then again to most white americans, an OTW can be insulted by a white man.
The level of disrespect the white boy has shown this President is atrocious. Yet white america sits back and refuses to ask for the respect they used to demand for the office.

Once again we heard it first here Michelle. It looks like the Right is attempting to steal the election in the battle ground states by manipulating the vote.
==========================
Florida Republicans, including Scott, Secretary of State Ken Detzner and Sen. Marco Rubio, defend the purge. Preventing ineligible voters from diluting the votes of others ranks among the state’s responsibilities, Scott has said. Florida this week sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, blaming blocked access to a U.S. immigration database for any violation of the law.
Scott has said the purge uncovered 87 non-citizens on the voter rolls, including 47 who have voted in the past. A state list of nearly 3,000 suspected ineligible voters also included the names of at least 500 citizens. The entire group received letters earlier this year asking for proof of citizenship.
That list included so many people of color that some voting rights advocates insisted the purge is a database-driven example of old-fashioned voter intimidation, discrimination and suppression. Nearly 60 percent of the voters on the list are Latino, yet Hispanic voters make up only 16 percent of the state’s electorate.
“If that’s not disparate impact, I really don’t know what is,” said Baylor Johnson, a spokesman for the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida.
======================
The question is will they get away wit it? If they steal this election from Obama, the country will be forever run by the 1% and those willing to do anything to win.

The most important comment to the Washington Post story of this incident came from some readers who did NOT vote for Obama. They opined that while they didn’t agree with the President, he IS the President, elected by the will of the people. Disrespect for the office is disrespect for the country and its democracy.
I didn’t vote for W, and I didn’t like his policies. But I was appalled that someone from a third-rate country could throw not one but two shoes at the President of the United States. There has to be SOME respect in our society.

I give oboma the same respect I give DRUG dealers
black or white!
June 16th, 2012 at 7:23 am
Munro was beyond disrespectful for the way he acted. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with a President’s policies and this country was founded partly on the idea of questioning the ruling power’s policies.
That being said, if he had any kind of professionalism he would have waited until the President was finished his statement. Instead, he went for his 15 minutes and only looked like an a**.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:26 am
The level of disrespect that the right wing media has for this President is appaling.
There has never, in my memory, been a sitting US Congressman who yelled “You lie” at the President during a national address.
There has never been, in my memory, a political party whose number one goal is not to help improve the lives of American citizens during a deep recession, but their number one goal is to make Obama a one term President.
Well they will fail at that just like they have failed at most everything else in the past decade.
It’s shameful. They have a right to their opinion and they have a right to their political views. But show some respect for the office if you can’t show respect for the President.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:26 am
Can anyone tell me ONE GOOD thing this guy’s done for AMERICANS? Not Muslims, not Mexicans, not Cubans…but AMERICANS?!
Didn’t think so.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:27 am
A continued pattern of disrespecting the President and the Presidency from the Hate Club! These right wing clowns take any cheap shot they can, then claim that they are just doing their job.
I guess we can be grateful he didn’t throw a shoe.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:29 am
If this happened to Bush the reporter would be getting waterboarded in Gitmo within 24 hrs. but because it’s Obama….the reporter was “just trying to get a question answered” even though he could have gotten it answered if he had the decency to wait until after the speech.
June 16th, 2012 at 7:32 am
GB, I for one am much better off than I was when Bush left office. Do you even remember the financial disaster he left us with or are you so full of racial animosity and hate that you don’t even recognize progress?
Or is it that you are so lazy and unintelligent that you haven’t been able to progress which one is it?

Cheers, Glenda
Roger, only a self righteous man would write your bs, bc everyone else knows we’re not talking about what’s best for mama/baby or abortion as a first method of birth control, we’re talking about the right (under any circumstances really) to carry out or terminate an unwanted pregnancy, every story is different but it’s a-hole males like you that probably don’t know much, there can be extentuating crcumstances, how about that bc pills are 99% protection though if a woman takes an antibiotic for any reason, it brings that down to 87-89%, and that 10% can be a pregnancy and I could give you more examples from stories but you’d righteously act as though if women would just stop spreading them for irresponsible men (the stats on responsible youngish ones are f’ing low, American men act like babies till they’re over 35), all would good in the world, that’s wearing your Doris Day glasses.
Read some of the other comments from women, how about they just cannot afford a baby, what would you suggest that poor people who can’t afford bc shouldn’t be allowed to screw?!
Rethink your pompous man stance please…again, I wish men could be women for a week, then you’d get a clue and realize how dumb as a boz a rox you sound when spouting about women’s health and reproductive care.
Luv, Zen Lill
June 16th, 2012 at 8:44 am
box of rox, and Roger, I didn’t mean for all that to sound so scathing, please remove any vitriol when reading so you get the real message not the pissy part I threw in, it’s just a mechanism to wake you up, shake you up, though my point is that you understand the message: being righteous about something you don’t live with is just a bunch of judgemental talk. – ZL
