I applaud Clinton for a compassionate well delivered speech that is needed and needs to be heard, here in the US and around the world.

Howie: I appreciate your post and your concern, but almost everyday I post topics on current events. I love the post office. I am one of those who does not trust on-line banking. I am also very tactile – I love writing checks almost as much as I appreciate a handwritten card or letter. So I am concerned about post office – These days picking just one topic a day is difficult, as there is so much happening in this world daily. That is why I rely on my readers to post current topics as well so that we can all be informed of what is important to a few, as well as to many. So keep it coming.

But like Robert,RT, I too believe that this blog is the place for “Peyton Place”, but it is also every other place you can imagine, to share, rant, bitch, drool over, revel in etc.

Afghan woman, jailed for being raped, wins pardon

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghanistan has pardoned a woman who was raped by a family member but then jailed for adultery, a statement from the presidential palace has said, in a case that highlights deep concerns about women’s rights in the country.

It remained unclear whether the 21-year-old-woman, known as Gulnaz, would still have to marry the man who attacked her, her cousin’s husband, after an earlier release offer which stipulated they must marry.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s palace issued the statement pardoning Gulnaz late on Thursday, a rare pardon in such a case in staunchly conservative Muslim Afghanistan.

Her case attracted international attention after she took part in a documentary film commissioned by the European Union but later withheld.

Gulnaz had eventually agreed to the condition she marry her attacker under the earlier release offer but her lawyer said the release granted this week did not depend on her going through with the marriage.

It was not clear whether she still intended to marry the man, her lawyer, Kimberley Motley, said. Her attacker is serving a 7-year prison term for the crime.

Motley said she hoped her client would be released shortly, and that there was a place for her in a women’s shelter.

The palace statement said Justice Minister Habibullah Ghalib asked a panel of top legal officials to order her release. Gulnaz sought a pardon from Karzai earlier this week.

“After assessing Gulnaz’s case, (they) decided that her remaining sentence in jail should be pardoned under the current rules and regulations of the country and she should be released,” the palace statement said.

Gulnaz was initially sentenced to two years in jail for “adultery by force,” which was later increased to 12 years on appeal. She was given the choice of marriage or serving a jail sentence.

Her sentence was then cut to three years after a third appeal, and the requirement for her to marry was dropped.

Gulnaz became pregnant as a result of the attack and gave birth to a daughter in the Badam Bagh women’s prison in Kabul almost a year ago.

Motley also welcomed what she said was a decision to review the cases of other women in the same jail.

“The judiciary has effectively supported the Elimination of Violence Against Women Act by allowing for her to be released, for allowing for her to be pardoned,” Motley said.

“Precedent definitely has been set. As I understand it, the judiciary today was also reviewing the files of other women in Badam Bagh,” she said.

The presidential palace declined to comment on whether other cases were under review.

FILM BLOCKED

The film in which Gulnaz featured, a documentary on women in prison, was blocked from release by the EU mission in Afghanistan over fears it might compromise the safety of the women involved because it showed their identity.

The film-makers have been pushing for the film to be released, and say Gulnaz wanted her story to be told.

“I made a promise to these women that I would get their stories out. I am glad that I’ve been able to honor that promise to Gulnaz,” said the film’s director Clementine Malpas.

“I still hope that our film can be released, so people can hear the stories of the other women, and perhaps increase their chance of getting justice as well.”

EU spokeswoman Lynne O’Donnell welcomed news Gulnaz would be freed but declined to comment on whether the film would be released.

Gulnaz’s case had been condemned widely by human rights groups. An online petition started by Motley has been signed by more than 6,000 people.

Motley said she is still trying to ascertain whether the attacker will also be released if they agree to marry.

So that being said, here’s a follow-up to the phone tracking and recording of all text transmissions by their customers, that I blogged a few days ago:

Carrier IQ: Verizon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, AT&T And Others Speak Out On Phone ‘Tracking’ Controversy

Mobile software company Carrier IQ has responded to the massive outcry following researcher Trevor Eckhart’s damning video that exposes a CIQ app embedded deep into the operating software on many smartphones. According to Eckhart, the software shown in the video logs text messages, dialed calls, URL searches and more — all without the user’s knowledge.

While some believe that CIQ’s software may violate users’ rights to privacy, the company disagrees.

In a statement emailed to The Huffington Post, CIQ asserts that its software, which is not easily removed by the average user, is merely a diagnostic tool used by its mobile operator customers to assess and improve the quality of a network’s services.

“Carrier IQ acts as an agent for the Operators,” the company said in its statement.

“We measure and summarize performance of the device to assist Operators in delivering better service,” the statement also read. “[O]ur software does not record, store or transmit the contents of SMS messages, email, photographs, audio or video.”

CIQ said that its services are used to address problems with call quality and device battery life.

In an interview with AllThingsD, Carrier IQ CEO Larry Lenhart said that operators — not Carrier IQ — decide what data to collect from users. “They make that decision based on their privacy standards and their agreement with their users, and we implement it,” Lenhart said.

The emailed statement from CIQ goes on to state that users’ data is transmitted only to the mobile operators who use the company’s services. “Carrier IQ does not sell personal subscriber information to 3rd parties,” the company said.

CIQ admitted that, while it transmits data to mobile operators via encrypted channels, the ultimate security of that data rests in the hands of the operators.

On Thursday, Senator Al Franken said that Carrier IQ’s software may prompt Congress to consider new legislation regarding the protection of consumers’ personal information. Franken, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law, wrote the following in a letter to CIQ: “The revelation that the locations and other sensitive data of millions of Americans are being secretly recorded and possibly transmitted is deeply troubling.”

As a result of the controversy, a number of mobile carriers and device manufacturers have come forward to clarify their relationship with CIQ. Take a look at our slideshow (below) to read statements from Apple, Google, Microsoft, Verizon, AT&T, HTC, Nokia, RIM and others.

The second day of elections took place in Egypt yesterday. In the mean time, another brave young girl comes forward and takes courageous and bold actions, suing the Egyptian army.

Egyptian women sues army over forced virginity tests, abuse

Samira Ibrahim, 25, made a seven-hour train ride to Cairo Monday night, to hear the verdict in her case against the Egyptian army.

She sued the army and accuses the miliaty of subjecting her to torture and abuse, including a so-called “virginity test,” while in military detention back in March. Judges had promised to issue a verdict on Tuesday.

Standing on the front steps of a Cairo courthouse, her round face wrapped tightly in a fuchsia headscarf, Ibrahim admitted she was nervous. But there was something that gave her confidence. About a dozen Egyptian friends, activists and lawyers came to court to support her.

A young, bearded Egyptian engineer named Hossam al-Din introduced himself as a Salafi, an ultra-conservative branch of Islam. Al-Din said he met Samira Ibrahim in early February in Tahrir Square. He has gotten to know her since then and he’s here because what happened to Ibrahim could happen to any Egyptian girl – Christian or Muslim, he said – under this military government. That’s not acceptable.

Tuesday in court was a big disappointment. The judge did not make a ruling. Instead the case was postponed until late December. After the announcement, Ibrahim was visibly frustrated.

“I’m not angry,” Ibrahim says. “They’re just stalling, trying to kill my case. But I’m not going to give up.”

Ibrahim, along with 16 other women, were detained during a demonstration on March 9. She was held for four days and during that time, she said, soldiers beat her repeatedly. They subjected her to electric shocks, screamed at her and threatened her. Then, worst of all, they made her strip so a man in a military uniform could check to see if she was a virgin.

She felt like she had been raped.

In June, Ibrahim filed a criminal complaint against the army, but the case has gone nowhere. So she filed suit in civil court, with the help of several human rights groups. They are asking judges to rule on the legality of Ibrahim’s treatment by the military. If they win the case, it could amount to a serious legal blow to Egypt’s military rulers.

Ahmed Hossam, Ibrahim’s lawyer, stood outside the courtroom smoking one cigarette after another. He said this case was incredibly sensitive politically. Hossam is not sure how the judges will rule.

Observers say it is hard to overstate just how much courage it takes for Ibrahim to go through with her case. Ibrahim isn’t the only woman who has been subjected to “virginity tests” while in military detention, but sexual abuse carries a powerful stigma, said Heba Morayef of Human Rights Watch.

“Egypt remains a very conservative society and even talking about the fact that these virginity tests took place is very difficult for young women,” Morayef said. “In fact, most of the women who’ve been subjected to these forced virginity tests have not wanted to come forward.”

Ibrahim’s lawyer said the case is probably being held up because the political atmosphere is so sensitive right now, with the recent violence and ongoing parliamentary elections.

“There’s not much to do now,” he said. “Except to wait.”

As for Ibrahim, she won’t wait for anything. Minutes after the disappointing announcement in the courtroom, she joined a small group of demonstrators and together, they marched straight back to Tahrir Square.

Readers: The abuse of women around the world is just so disturbing to me. It leaves me feeling helpless but I know that feeling doesn’t help the women who endure this kind of life. It is something that must constantly be talked about so that these women are in the forefront of our minds and are not forgotten.

Yes we women do need to stand in unity. As you can see from my write today, this abuse is not only a daily thing from men, but the military is not much different from our police force;  just a bunch of thugs with guns as well.

I did not read about the added restrictions to Saudi women – thank you for posting. This is insane isn’t it? How many more restrictions can you put on a woman’s life when it is already restricted so much? This just upsets me so much. It really proves that men who are trying to have control really have none since they obviously can not control their sexual urges, that they resort to needing to cover up their woman from head to toe.

Even though we know this is just an excuse to control their women, keep them down – I mean c’mon is it really that tough to keep your dick in your pants? Still if that is their excuse, the message that is put out, to me is loud and clear: They are admitting (even if this is not the real reason for the head-to-toe cover-up), that they have no control over their dicks. That is how I see it – How weak is that? If a man can not control his sexual urges, if he has not mastered his emotions and can’t handle seeing a woman, even viewing her “eyes” without raping or pawing her, so much that he needs to hide what appeals to him, he has got to be the most pathetic thing on this planet. Oh yeah…he is.

Really in my opinion and to answer to your question: Because I think many men just like men better. Period. Control or no control of their dicks, the bottom line is they don’t give a fuck about women. If they did, they wouldn’t be treating them as less than dirt. They would want to revel in their beauty and love and joy, and not hide it, only to disrobe it when they are ready to abuse it.

Lois: I never knew now crazy until I started reading and watching. I can see why a man would want to join such a cult, but a woman?

Before we get to “The True Origins of Mormonism Part 2″, I just have to post these two interesting videos. One, is from a young girl who is “no longer Mormon”, and tells us why. And the second…well, it is a surprise that you just can’t miss.

Readers: Yes, you heard correctly.  Marie Osmond did just say, “…as far as speaking her mind, that should be the man’s job”. And there you have it. I wish that I could say, “Oh that was then; these modern times are different. – Women are not like that TODAY.” But…we all know that some women still think this way. Why?…is beyond me. But women did and still do. Every woman out there can speak her mind better than a man can. Why would a woman ever think any differently? Why would a woman ever give that kind of power to a man…to anyone, really? Get over it whatever it is you need to get over – Speak up! Woman-up! Speak your mind.

Along with having a difficult time posting, my blog may not show up at all sometimes – like I don’t exist. I do. I posted this information last week, but will continue to post it periodically to keep those that have just started reading my blog informed.

Google is blocking my blog…whether they know it or not.

There are hidden instructions to block access to “blog.michellemoquin.com.”

The blocking is designed to frustrate the potential reader. It doesn’t happen all the time but enough to discourage most looking to check out or continue to tune into my blog.

Believe me, it has been frustrating as well for me. It has been hell for me sometimes to find my blog, and be able to access it so that I can write. I am continually bugging my server about it so that it can be rectified as quickly as possible. No one seemed to have an answer.

Yesterday I got this from a loyal reader. (Much gratitude – you know who you are) He/she showed me what was hidden in the search instructions when one attempts to find my blog through google.

So…as you can see, below is the e-mail, that I received, informing me that Google is blocking my blog. Don’t ask me how I found out. Don’t ask me who gave me this information. I got it and that’s all that matters.

It is nothing that anyone sees when they Google my name or my blog, but it is there. This is the hidden message that is directing Google and others to block access to my blog.

I highlighted the important part in RED – Notice it says, “Block all blog.michellemoquin.com results.” If you google blog.michellemoquin.com you don’t see the hidden message, but it is there.

Readers: The only way I won’t be blogging is if I CHOOSE to shut my blog down. Other than that, I will be here. So please don’t give up.  As Social Butterfly informed us the other day, she was able to get on, then clicked on a link, tried to come back to my blog, but got a message over and over: “Error establishing database”.

However, by switching to a different window Social Butterfly was able to get on my blog again. I HOPE like Sally, you’ll give it a try and not get easily discouraged, because I am doing all that I can do and it might get worse at times. I promise though, your time here is worth it.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.
