The Other “Other” – LGBT’s – Their Right To Human Rights

Good morning!

Readers: In recognition of International Human Rights Day this weekend, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave this speech yesterday – All I can say is that it is exceptional and so worth the watch. I applaud Clinton for a compassionate well delivered speech that is needed and needs to be heard, here in the US and around the world.

For those that would rather read the transcript, click here.

*****

Readers: And let’s not forget that this is another accomplishment by Obama and his administration for puting into place the first U.S. Government strategy dedicated to combating human rights abuses against LGBT persons abroad. Kudos are due.

Speaking of Obama…I am happy to give Clinton top billing today, but Obama gave a remarkable speech yesterday as well. - And also well worth the watch:

********

Connie: I am not sure I like being the “one who tipped the scale”. :)  I just thought that the opportunity to leave was certainly tempting. But you are a grown woman, so I am sure you know what you really want to do. I wish you both the best. And I HOPE that if you do decide to become 19 again and are here for a few more years, that you’ll check in with us and let us know how you’re doing.

Garth: You are probably correct on the spying. And I agree with you with respect to regulation.

Howie: I appreciate your post and your concern, but almost everyday I post topics on current events. I love the post office. I am one of those who does not trust on-line banking. I am also very tactile – I love writing checks almost as much as I appreciate a handwritten card or letter. So I am concerned about post office – These days picking just one topic a day is difficult, as there is so much happening in this world daily. That is why I rely on my readers to post current topics as well so that we can all be informed of what is important to a few, as well as to many. So keep it coming.

But like Robert,RT, I too believe that this blog is the place for “Peyton Place”, but it is also every other place you can imagine, to share, rant, bitch, drool over, revel in etc.

Zen Lill: Romney’s dropped down to second place. Now we’re dealing with the Newt on top.  And his trace record isn’t looking so good. (Thanks to Rachel Maddow for exposing the dirt)

Jullie: Thanks for your faith – yes – we will prevail!

Anonymous: These are the kind of stories that drive me to continue doing what I do.

Gretchen: I love it when I read that a reader has been reading for years and finally makes a first comment. I’m always delighted and then I wonder, “What took you so long?” :) “Fire brand”  - that is how I think of Maddow as well – love her commentary. And thrilled that you made the switch. Thanks for the good wishes.

What’s on your mind? Blog me? Peace out.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

That you may be a lover tried and true,
My wish and will are that your heart be fixed
In one sole place whence it can not depart
    But whole and undivided there remain;
For no halfhearted service pleases me.
He who in many a place bestows his heart
    Has but a little part to leave in each;
But of that man I never have a doubt
Who his whole heart deposits in one place.

Did you catch the documented UFO ship near Mercury and just as large. It was cloaked and then hit with a solar flair which uncloaked it momentarily.

This is definite proof that planet-sized mother ships exist and are in our solar system.

It was filmed and seen by hundreds of thousands on You Tube. The next line is the link to the video.

YouTube-user siniXster said in his video commentary

There is no other explanation except that this is a cloaked space ship which temporarily uncloaked when hit by solar energy.

We caught you on video this time.

Hi Mischa, cool that you posted this today, I was thinking about Hc as VP this run 2012 would be a great idea esp after I saw her on her Myan Mar trip last night on the news, she’s a shoe in and still leaves her an opportunity for 2016 presidency.

Howie, great linnk, sure looks like an uncloaked ship to me, no doubt about it. Thank you.

Other anon, I agree about sex, maybe I’ll elaborate on my pendulum theory when I have some more time, bc somewhere in the mid section lies the method to the madness on this subject.

That’s it, I’m on a 12 hour day today, and I better get back to it, : 0

    Luv, Zen Lill

Howie I clicked your link and it didn’t take me to a video. It was a page with lots of links. So I just picked one. I’m sorry but I had to watch that over and over before I could even figure out what exactly the narrator was trying to get us to watch. I’m not convinced. You tell a good story most of the time but I’m still no closer to believing after watching that.

  6. Dave Says:

Is a giant, cloaked spaceship orbiting around Mercury?

That’s been the speculation from some corners aftera camera onboard NASA’s STEREO spacecraft caught a wave of electronically charged material shooting out from the sun and hitting Mercury.

Theorists have seized on the images captured from the “coronal mass ejection” (CME) last week as suggestive of alien life hanging out in our own cosmic backyard. Specifically, the solar flare washing over Mercury appears to hit another object of comparable size. “It’s cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle. It definitely looks like a ship to me, and very obviously, it’s cloaked,” YouTube-user siniXster said in his video commentary on the footage, which has generated hundreds of thousands of views this week. Now, how this user was able to determine that the object was “obviously” a cloaked spaceship with no other natural explanation remains as much a mystery as the object itself.

Of course, there’s another scientifically sanctioned explanation for the curious images, though we’re not certain that skeptics and UFO enthusiasts such as SiniXster will endorse it. Natalie Wolchover of Life’s Little Mysteries put the question to scientists in the solar physics branch at the United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). They’re the people who analyze data from the Heliospheric Imager-1 (HI-1)–better known in this context as the camera that shot the footage in question.

Head NRL group scientist Russ Howard and lead ground systems engineer Nathan Rich say the mysterious object is in fact Mercury itself. And what we’re seeing in the footage is the equivalent of Mercury’s wake, “where the planet was on the previous day,” as it travels through the solar system on its natural gravitational path:

To make the relatively faint glow of a coronal mass ejection stand out against the bright glare of space—caused by interplanetary dust and the stellar/galactic background—the NRL scientists must remove as much background light as possible. They explained that they determine what light is background light, and thus can be subtracted out, by calculating the average amount of light that entered each camera pixel on the day of the CME event and on the previous day. Light appearing in the pixels on both days is considered to be background light and is removed from the footage of the CME. The remaining light is then enhanced.

The analysts say the practice works even better when applied to far-off objects such as stars, which don’t move much relative to the sun. But for moving objects, especially planets, the process is a little more complicated. And making matters even trickier is Mercury’s staus as the closest planet to the sun.

“When [this averaging process] is done between the previous day and the current day and there is a feature like a planet, this introduces dark (negative) artifacts in the background where the planet was on the previous day, which then show up as bright areas in the enhanced image,” Rich explained in an email.

  7. Janet Says:

Once again this blog has proven that aliens do speak on it. It was at least a year ago when aliens and Howie stated that their mother ships are the size of our planets.

Those of you that are newbies get prepared to discover what other UFO blogs can’t even imagine. One day our science will discover as aliens on this blog have told us years ago. That is space travel involves light not darkness.

Oh to have at your archives Michelle. What proofs are hidden there.

    Janet

Mourning the Loss of a Beloved Pet
When I ran into a friend and casually asked how she was, she replied, “Fine”—and then burst into tears.

She explained that her cat had died the week before, and my heart went out to her. She works at home and had relied on her kitty’s constant companionship and unwavering devotion.

“Maybe it’s silly, but I almost feel as though I’ve lost my best friend,” she said. It is not at all silly—or uncommon—to feel bereft in such situations, given that many pet owners consider their dogs, cats and other lovable critters to be members of the family.

Yet because some people regard a pet as “just an animal,” they may not offer appropriate emotional support (as they would if you had lost a relative, for instance)—and the lack of understanding makes it harder to get through this difficult time.

You may even doubt the legitimacy of your grief, believing it to be excessive, which also stymies attempts to mourn and move on.

I called psychologist and grief counselor Alan D. Wolfelt, PhD, author of When Your Pet Dies: A Guide to Mourning, Remembering and Healing, to discuss ways to ease the pain after the loss of a pet.

His suggestions… Recognize the depth of your grief as a reflection of the strength of your love. “The more profound the attachment to your pet was, the more profound your grief is likely to be,” Dr. Wolfelt said.

Accept that all your feelings are valid. Along with sadness, you may experience a surprising array of emotions… anger, denial, confusion, relief (if the animal had been suffering), even guilt (if you euthanized your pet or were unable to keep it safe from harm). These feelings are normal.

Seek support from other pet lovers. Friends and relatives who care as deeply for their animals as you did for yours can sympathize, understanding the bond you shared with your pet.

Also helpful: Pet grief support groups. Ask your veterinarian for a referral to a local group… or check http://www.pet-loss.net.

Express your grief. Write in a journal, compose a song, paint or sculpt… any activity into which you can pour your grief helps you process painful emotions, said Dr. Wolfelt.

Consider whether there is a deeper well of pain within you. If you seem stuck in your grief, perhaps losing your pet triggered a subconscious review of an earlier loss.

Dr. Wolfelt explained, “You may not have mourned adequately for a previous death… for instance, of a parent.

The pet’s death can bring out those repressed feelings, making your current grief seem out of proportion.” If you suspect this, consult a therapist or grief counselor for help in finally mourning your earlier loss.

Create a ritual to honor your pet. Having a funeral or memorial service for your pet encourages family members to openly express their emotions, formally acknowledge the loss and share comforting memories.

Also helpful: Create a scrapbook dedicated to your pet, with photos and small mementos such as a collar tag. Think carefully before getting a new pet.

The decision about whether or when to acquire another animal is highly individual, so only you can say when you’re ready.

But: If you bring another pet into your home before you have truly accepted that your previous companion is gone and cannot be replaced, you may be disappointed.

As Dr. Wolfelt said, “First you must allow yourself to mourn the death of your pet—because that is what lets you open your heart to the love and companionship a new pet can provide.”

Source: Alan D. Wolfelt, PhD, is a psychologist, founder and director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado, and faculty member in the department of family medicine at the University of Colorado Medical School in Denver.

He is the author of more than 25 books on grief and loss, including When Your Pet Dies: A Guide to Mourning, Remembering and Healing (Companion). http://www.centerforloss.com

  9. Gretchen Says:

Michelle, I hope you won’t be sorry because now that I have made the leap. I have so many opinions on so much that is discussed here.

As a republican(really just the wife of one. This time I am voting for Obama.) who contributes heavily to the republican candidates(no more for me) we get the inside details.

The governor who is about to throw his hat in the ring has petitioned many of the very wealthy, like us, to form secret corporations to donate one million or more to his campaign and then dissolve the corporations leaving no trace of the donors.

The STACK on the Supreme Court were part of the deal that made this legal.

They were paid to make the ruling to enable us to donate huge sums secretly to republican candidates we supported.

The law is extremely valuable because it enables us to legally give huge sums to a needed candidate if the slate we had put forward doesn’t seem capable of defeating the democratic opponent.

Here the consensus is if we can’t get the rank and file to back Romney we need someone else to enter the race.

    Three Super Greens

It seems to me that everyone cooks with spinach because it is easy to do. But other dark green leafy vegetables are some of the most healthful and delicious foods around. So why don’t we eat more of them?

Brimming with nutrients, kale and mustard greens are cruciferous vegetables full of anti-inflammatory antioxidants and indole-3-carbinol, a chemical believed to block the growth of some cancer cells.

And Swiss chard has lots of calcium plus abundant amounts of beta-carotene.

Despite these health benefits, many people are put off by these unfamiliar greens. I find that once people know how to cook kale, mustard greens and Swiss chard, they discover them to be both tasty and easy to serve.

Nevia No, the owner of Bodhitree Farm in Burlington County, New Jersey, sells these greens and others at farmers’ markets in New York City.

Her vegetables are a favorite among Manhattan chefs… and she often can be found providing cooking demonstrations to show how easy it is to release the flavors of these greens.

Nevia No’s Easy Way to Prepare Greens

Wash the leaves well and shake lightly. Lay each leaf flat, and run a sharp knife down either side of the center vein. Lift out the center vein and stem, and discard them.

Stacking several of the V-shaped leaves together, roll them into a long cigar, and cut crosswise into half-inch slices that unroll into ribbons.

Heat one to two tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet. Sauté two or three sliced garlic cloves until golden, then remove to prevent them from burning.

Add the damp greens to the pungently flavored oil. Cook over medium heat, stirring often. Add two to three tablespoons of broth or water to avoid burning.

Cook until the greens are tender or done to your taste. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Since these greens will shrink considerably during cooking, allow eight ounces of raw greens per serving.

    How the Greens Stack Up
To select the freshest produce…choose greens with leaves that look firm and perky. Avoid bunches with limp, wilted or faded leaves.

While all of these greens can be eaten raw, fresh greens are most flavorful when cooked for just a short time—about five to six minutes.

    KALE
Flavor: Sweet with a nutty undertone.

Nutrition: Contains vitamins A and C, calcium, magnesium and iron.

Ways to Cook: Sauté or steam, boil, braise with broth. Add to soups and stews. Add raw to salads.

For healthy bruschetta, sauté 1 cup steamed kale in olive oil with 3 finely chopped garlic cloves. Add 1 can rinsed cannellini beans, partially mashing them, and ⅜ tsp ground black pepper.

Serve spooned onto toasted slices of whole-wheat Italian bread.

    SWISS CHARD
Flavor: White-stemmed is sweetest…red-stemmed is most earthy tasting.

Nutrition: Contains vitamin A, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. High in sodium. Use caution if following a restricted sodium diet.

Ways to Cook: Sauté. Braise with broth, add to soups and stews.

For easy chunky soup, place 3 cups vegetable broth, 4 cups chopped chard, 1 can rinsed canned chickpeas, ½ cup each frozen corn and cut green beans, a small chopped red onion and chopped garlic in a deep pot.

Simmer 15 minutes, uncovered. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.

    MUSTARD GREENS
    Flavor: A peppery, radishlike bite.

Nutrition: Contains vitamins A and C, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.

Ways to Cook: Sauté, steam, slow-cook southern style with preservative-free chicken or turkey sausage. Add raw to salads in thin shreds.

For Asian-style greens, sauté ½ cup chopped onion and 1 cup sliced carrots for 3 minutes. Add ½ cup chicken broth and 1 Tbsp soy sauce, and simmer until crisp-tender, 5 minutes. Mix in 2 cups steamed mustard greens and 1 tsp roasted sesame oil.

WASHINGTON — A bill that would give the controlling party of either chamber of Congress veto power over any major new regulation passed the House of Representatives Wednesday.

Environmental advocates have been especially alarmed about the REINS Act because many environmental regulations fall into the “major” category, with their impact often exceeding $100 million in cost. They fear the measure is simply a way to let the Tea Party and special interests shoot down any new rule to protect the air and water.

The Act’s opponents also note that it’s ironic the GOP legislative attempt comes during an administration that has promoted fewer regulations that the previous one, and that the regulations Congress wants to block stem from laws passed by Congress itself.
