Good morning!

Just noticing…

…Is that a rat on Mars?

Mike, TM: Not sure if the life on Mars you’re speaking of is the “rat?” looking creature that was discovered recently on Mars. :) Or perhaps some other life form, more likely.  But this did come across my plate about a week ago.  I figured since you brought up Mars, it would be fun to post it today. I HOPE all is good with you.

From the Huff Po: Please click on the title to watch the video.

Mars Rat? Blogger Spots ‘Creature’ In NASA Curiosity Rover Image (PHOTO)

Is that a rat… on Mars?!

Yes, according to a theory from one determined man in Japan who recently scoured dozens of NASA photos taken by the space agency’s Mars Curiosity rover. A post onUFO Sightings Daily shows the “Mars rat,” which appears to be a creature with legs and a tail among rocks on the planet.

(SCROLL FOR PHOTOS)

As the blog notes, the figure “seems to resemble a rodent but also may be a lizard.”

The alleged Mars rat should not be confused with a similar sighting first pointed out in December: An image taken by the Curiosity rover at the “Rocknest” site in September shows a rodent-like figure that most closely resembles a squirrel. However, as UFO Sightings Daily notes, that observation may have been staged by NASA as part of an experiment.

While this most recent rodent sighting may be yet another NASA test (or the result of a few perfectly placed rocks), it’s most likely not a living creature. After all, this is something NASA would make an announcement about, right?

Earlier this year, the agency revealed that the Curiosity rover uncovered signs that life may have once existed on Mars. NASA scientists cited a rock sample the rover analyzed in February that contained elements necessary for supporting life.

“We have characterized a very ancient, but strangely new ‘gray Mars’ where conditions once were favorable for life,” John Grotzinger, Mars Science Laboratory project scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., said in a statement at the time. “Curiosity is on a mission of discovery and exploration, and as a team we feel there are many more exciting discoveries ahead of us in the months and years to come.”

Check out the original NASA photo and the UFO Sightings Daily version that points to the “Mars rat” below, and let us know what you think.

Good morning!

“Just noticing…” And yes, I am judging too.

In my opinion, this girl is an idiot. If you ask me she has been listening to and taking advice from Pat Robertson. Or perhaps just her husband and his hurt feelings and prayers.

Here’s the write from the Huff Po:

Kylie Bisutti, Former Victoria’s Secret Model, Says She Quit Modeling For Husband, God (VIDEO)

Former Victoria’s Secret model Kylie Bisutti stopped by HuffPost Live Wednesday and opened up about her decision to quit modeling to protect her marriage and her relationship with God.

Bisutti told host Alicia Menendez that while her husband never asked her to stop modeling, she did feel that her flirtatious model persona hurt his feelings.

“He did not [ask me to stop modeling], he was very supportive. He just prayed, and his prayers have been answered,” Bisutti said.

She also said that God spoke to her during her modeling career, telling her to leave the industry because she “wasn’t being the right kind of role model.”

Good morning.

“Just noticing…”

…If we keep demanding cheaper prices on the clothing that we buy…if we keep supporting stores such as Walmart, Target, Primark, Matalan and Mango, etc., we are having a direct effect on the livelihood of women garment workers. Team that up with a factory owner who cares more about his bottom line than the safety and well-being of his workers, and you get a catastrophe such as the recent one in Bangladesh.

BANGLADESH: Corruption harms women garment workers in building collapse

Migrant women garment workers

The often overlooked woman migrant garment worker in Bangladesh is extra vulnerable to exploitation and violence by employers, as well as dangers in working conditions. These women are part of the “Network for Prevention and Protection of Women Migrant Workers from Violence” sponsored by the United Nations last year. Image: UN Women

(WNN) Dhaka, BANGLADESH, SOUTH ASIA: In a city where work comes hard, the often grueling work of a woman garment workers, including migrant garment workers, in Dhaka can be filled with unseen danger. In the past 7 months the Tazreen Fashions building trapped mostly women textile workers as doors were locked shut killing 100 of the women who could not escape when fire broke out. The most recent danger in a different 8 story Rana Plaza Building collapse has killed over 380 garment workers in what has been described as the worst industrial accident for workers throughout Bangladesh. Over 2,220 people have been trapped in the rubble with injuries flooding medical facilities.

Rescue efforts for the survivors have been overwhelming and difficult as substandard equipment was the only equipment available and fire broke out during the recent rescue efforts out causing more deaths. Hopes for finding anyone else alive has at this point grown slim says the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Following his arraignment, the owner of the collapsed multi-floor building, Mohammed Sohel Rana, left the courtroom in Dhaka yesterday on his way to jail after receiving charges surrounding corruption with negligence, illegal construction and forcing workers to work under duress. To protect him from an intensifying protesting crowd Sohel Rana wore a police riot helmet and a bulletproof vest as he left the court and walked to a vehicle on his way to jail under police escort. He is one of 8 other people connected to the daily operations of the Rana garment factory who were arrested after the dramatic collapse of the building took place.

Ignoring earlier warnings by inspectors that the illegal building housing thousands of garment workers was unsafe, critical cracks in the structure were discovered and reported by inspectors. But no direct action nor response followup ever happened.

Human rights advocates call the act an industry-wide endangerment and abuse of workers, as well as a government oversight.

“Reforms should include a drastic overhaul of the government’s system of labor inspections and an end to government efforts to thwart the right of workers to unionize,” said Human Rights Watch.

In an Bangladesh industry that has brought in almost 9 Billion dollars, today’s average pay for a women garment worker is $38 (USD) per month. Long hours, that can include unsafe 24 hour work cycles, along with few breaks and other work allowances have been found.

“All the factory buildings visited except one are over-crowded, congested and poorly ventilated. The floor space per worker is small and stairways are narrow. In one factory, bundles of cloth and cartons were found on the staircases,” outlined Dhaka University associate professor and researcher Momtaz Jahan. “The workers work under hundreds of powerful electric bulbs for the whole time of their work. It was observed that, the sound of the operation of 100-200 sewing machines in the same work floor exposed the workers to high noise that exceeded tolerable level.”

Other sharp criticism of officials at top levels in the Bangladesh government include their refusal to allow an international rescue country teams to go in and assist immediately when the collapse occurred as United Nations sponsored INSARAG -International Search and Rescue Advisory Group was turned away.

In an area especially prone to earthquakes it is thought that government officials, as well as building owners, have looked the other way on enforcing building codes for a long time that might otherwise have saved lives. In 2012 only 18 government inspectors had been issued to work to inspect approximately 100,000 factory buildings in Dhaka outlines Human Rights Watch.

“This company [Rana Plaza Factory] has to take action immediately to support the families of the people who were killed and injured,” said London based advocates War on Want Campaign and Policy Director Ruth Tanner, who was in Dhaka on the scene.

As giant retailers juggle a history of buying from Bangladesh companies like U.K. based clothing distributor Primark, along with The Gap, Walmart and subsidiaries under The Gap like Banana Republic and Old Navy, no corporations to date have been implicated with any direct connection to the Rana Plaza Factory operations.

Canada based child clothing distributors Loblaw as well as Primark have recently made statements promising that families of the catastrophe will be receiving financial assistance through their corporate channels, especially children who have become orphans.

Because of an increasing rate of garment worker deaths affecting hundreds of women as well as men, the corporate clothing push is now on for greater managed transparency and integrity with partnerships for Bangladeshi manufacturing practices and conditions.

But management efforts against corruption in Bangladesh have a long way to go say global advocates for women garment workers.

In a recent public release The Gap said it did not have any connection to the Rana Plaza operations. Last month the corporation pledged 33 Million to improve safety with inspectors to its facilities by hiring independent contractors working in Bangladesh. Walmart is doing the same with 1.8 Million that is now going for factory safety management.

“Given the long record of worker deaths in factories, this tragedy was sadly predictable,” said Brad Adams, Asia director at Human Rights Watch recently. “The government, local factory owners, and the international garment industry pay workers among the world’s lowest wages, but didn’t have the decency to ensure safe conditions for the people who put clothes on the backs of people all over the world,” he continued.

“Just Noticing”: Observations of a Blogger

Good morning!

“Just noticing…”

I am trying to keep up with the news and make sense of everything that is being said about these two Boston bombers. But as usual I have some comments and a lot more questions. I am wondering if some of you are thinking the same same.

When I listen to all the pundits and MSM shows talk about the bombers, I am disturbed by the fact that the elephant in the room, “gun background checks”  is never mentioned. That fact would be the “lack of” background checks for their purchase of guns, is not brought up.  With all the talk about background checks lately, why isn’t it being talked about in this scenario?

We are constantly exposed to the fact that the FBI  conducted a background check on the older brother because of an alert by Russia. Later he visited an area in Russia, (Chechnya)  where there is a lot of islamic activity going on, but the FBI did not do a second interview.

Yet there is no mention that if the very gun law that was voted down recently – you know the one that said we need background checks on people before they are able to buy a gun – was actually in place, the FBI would’ve been alerted of this person who had just visited Chechnya and was on a watch list. No such luck this time and probably not next time either because that gun law was just voted down. You can thank the Senate for that and blame them too for any future mass gun murders, because with the way our world is today, sadly, there will most likely be a next time.

All we hear is “The FBI dropped the ball in 2011.” They didn’t drop the ball  – there were no balls to drop  – the ball was taken out of their hands when there was no background check to alert them. In my opinion, it is really that simple.

The older brother was firing an automatic weapon – where did he get it? No mention about that. It is almost as if there were no guns involved, at all. All we hear is talk about  “a bomb”…”a bomb”…”a bomb.” But guns were involved too. How did they kill the MIT guy? Because they had guns? How did the get the car? Because they had guns. How did they escape the police? Because they had guns! If we are so concerned about guns, why is no one talking about them?!

Back to dropping the ball…It was the Senate who dropped the ball when just this week they voted down a huge tool that would have enable law enforcement to catch these guys. Wait until terrorists discover how easy it is to just come here and buy guns and use them against us. Will we as citizens have to experience a mass murdering by one or more terrorists using our own easily bought weapons against us before we get those BAPF, by the gun industry, representatives, to understand that we need to prevent the unwanted from getting their hands on guns?

As horrific as this Boston bombing was, we were lucky this time. The older brother was stupid and thankfully he was. By choice, not because he couldn’t, he only had a certain amount of bullets. And because of that, he was caught by the police because he ran out of bullets. If he had  30-round magazine, this story could’ve turned out a lot different. More people would’ve been dead and the brother bombers could still be at large and who knows what plans they had that could’ve been played out. We have no idea how many more lives could’ve been lost. But we can certainly say that the older brother’s stupidity to not carry a larger magazine for his automatic weapon, most likely saved lives – this time. Wouldn’t it be nice if this law had passed so we wouldn’t ever have to contemplate should another killer be smarter next time?  Why is this kind of logic not  being addressed and discussed?

On another note, we are constantly exposed to Senator Graham saying the bomber should be tried as a “enemy combatant.” It seems that the republicans have no problem depriving people of the civil rights to gain protection of the population as a whole, but they refuse to deprive the gun industry of their profits from the sale of guns to anyone for similar protections of the population as a whole. Crazy right? So those republicans refuse to deprive a few of the right to purchase guns without background checks in order to protect the safety of the general population.

Readers: Any comments on your take on why there is no buzz or questions such as these from any in the media? Or discussions on why having gun background checks would have done to alert law enforcement to their situation? Anything else you’re “just noticing?” Since no one is talking about it, let’s get the conversation going here. Blog me.

Peace & Love….

“Just noticing…”

  • …Putting an eel up your butt isn’t a good idea.

Eel Removed From Man After Getting Stuck, Chewing Through Colon

Do not try this at home. Do not try this anywhere. Just do not try it.

A man in China’s southeastern Guangdong province admitted himself to a local hospital after he reportedly got a live eel stuck inside him. According to British tabloid The Sun, the man inserted the 20-inch-long Asian swamp eel into his anus after seeing it done in a porn movie, and he had to endure all-night surgery to have it extracted.

According to a HuffPost translation of a blogger’s post on Chinese message board forum Mop.com, the eel reportedly chewed through the man’s colon, perforating his large intestine, and became stuck in his body cavity. A graphic X-ray image (seen below) shows how far inside the eel was when the man came in for treatment.

Medical team members reportedly said the eel, which was “simply trying to find its way out,” was alive when removed but died shortly thereafter. According to The Sun, the man is still recovering at the hospital and might face animal cruelty charges.

The Asian swamp eel — also known as the rice eel or rice paddy eel — is a snake-shaped fish that is commonly sold live at food markets in East Asian countries.

Although this type of eel is known as an invasive species in parts of the United States, this isn’t the first time that it’s made its way into (ahem) foreign habitats.

In 2012, a New Zealand man had to have an eel removed from his posterior. In 2010, a Chinese man died after his friends allegedly inserted an eel into his rectum as a joke.
