…in Dancing with the stars, Nancy Grace slipped a nipple causing a huge uproar. On Argentina’s version of Dancing with the Stars, Cinthia Fernandez ends up totally naked.
Hmm…I wonder how many of you are going to click over to watch. :) I have to say it is quite a site.
…
…some men are just rude asses. (And yes, I am judging) I went and saw Cassandra Wilson perform a few weeks back. As I was saving a seat for my friend who had not arrived yet, a man came up to the seat and stood in front of the saved seat. I politely informed him that the seat was taken. He looked at me and said, “I was told to sit here.” I said, “Well there must be a mistake because there are two of us and this seat is taken by my friend.” He just coldly stared down at me and repeated himself, an then ignored me.
I got up and went to clear up the situation since this guy was not about to budge. I rectified the situation with the gentleman who seated me and he said he would be right there to assist. I walked back to my seat, looked at the man and told him that he was not a gentleman but a rude ass. Well…I can tell you that he then got up and in my face and said, ”Do you have any idea who I am?! You have no idea who the fuck I am!” As he slammed his hand on the table. I just said, I don’t care who you are; you are in my seat.” Then he proceeded to yell at me telling me that I didn’t have to call him an ass or yell at him. Wha’at? I was not yelling but yes, I did call him an ass, which he clearly didn’t like.
Finally the gentleman who seated us caught him in mid sentence of his slam and decided it was best to split us up, and guided the man to a table further back. It all happened within a minute but totally riled me. Here this man was up in my face yelling at me, getting physical and he was “upset” because I called him a “bad name”.
Oohh…. As you might’ve guessed, the thought that came to my mind was, “Gee I wish “name calling” was the only thing a woman needed to worry about, you pussy. No, no, no, you ‘wuss’ – to call you a pussy is too good of a thing.” Thankfully, I was in a pubic place filled with people or who knows what he might of done with his fist, instead of slamming it on the table. And worse yet, a man was sitting right in the seat next to me, and while this ass was yelling profanities and slamming the table, he sat there watching and did absolutely nothing!
…that not much has been said about Seth MacFarlane’s “I Saw Your Boobs” song at the Oscars. I thought it was sexist and offensive, and found no humor in it at all. (And yes, it is pretty obvious I am making a judgment here again too.)
And last but not least, I must handle a little BLOG BIZ:
…I get the feeling that a few of the people that I have met in public seem to think that I am writing the articles that I choose to post. Although they have not clearly stated this, I want to be sure that mistake is corrected. I check the news to find writes that I feel reflect the objective of my blog, which is to help women and the world in the best way I can. As most of you may know, that on occasion, not as often as before, I do write articles or at least some commentary. If I have not made a clear distinction before, I will make sure that the difference between what I personally write and what I post from other sites is known. I apologize for any confusion.

It is the weekend. I usually post things that are a bit of a lighter read on the weekends because some of you might take the weekend off and may not be here reading. But then I thought, do rapists take the weekend off? No. Do abusers take the weekend off? No. Do women get time off from their suffering and living in fear because it is the weekend? Unfortunately no.
Women here and around the world who endure such horrific lives, do so on a daily basis. There is no relief. Their only relief is that they didn’t get raped that day…or that they weren’t abused on a particular day. But the fear is still there…the fear of when is the next time going to happen?
Many of us thankfully, have no idea what it is like to live in fear on a daily basis, but many women do. Just because it is the weekend and we are taking some time off, the abused women around the world need to know that we still care and are not forgetting about them.

Yes,Patricia, I did hear about it, and it was in my queue to blog it. Sickening. Here’s the write for those of you who didn’t read about it.
“The father is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away,” the mother of the girl told officials, according to the AFP.
“Due to her young age, we don’t know if she is being entirely truthful,” Lino Ginzalez Corona, spokesperson at Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, said in a press conference, ABC reports.
There have been only a handful of recent reported births among children this young, including a 10-year-old Colombian girl who gave birth last year, and a 9-year-old Chinese girl who gave birth to a healthy baby boy in 2010.

Victoria: I hear you. Last Thursday the Senate rejected the GOP’s alternative to the bill, and rightfully so. Their version would have stripped out protections for LGBT victims of domestic violence, removed a key protection for Native American women and shifted the overall focus of VAWA away from women and more toward men.
Can you believe that? VAWA is about protecting women, and repub Senator Grassley obviously only care about the men. If he and other repubs had their way, tribal courts wouldn’t have the ability to prosecute non-Native American men who abuse Native American women on tribal lands. Basically a free right to rape and get away with it. Gee, do ya think that is why this sort of thing happens at such high level?
And…if they had their way they would remove the word “women” from VAWA’s largest grant program – Hello? The “W” in VAWA stands for “Women” (!) By removing the word “women” they are effectively broadening the scope of the original 1994 law to include male victims of violence, who face far less victimization than their female counterparts. Sickening isn’t it? Propose something else if you want to protect the men.
Oh… and it doesn’t stop there.
Grassley’s proposal would also take out protections for LGBT victims of domestic violence and place new restrictions on U visas, which are given to immigrant victims of domestic violence who help law enforcement officials to identify and prosecute their abusers.
The Senate is lining up a Monday vote for the bipartisan bill, authored by Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho). It has 62 cosponsors, which essentially ensures its passage.

…My heart is feeling especially heavy today. I heard about this young 17-year old girl in India who was gang raped and killed. I heard her story on the radio, and the details of the rape, and it was one of the most brutal stories that I have ever heard. I went to bed the other night thinking of her and I couldn’t sleep. I just can’t seem to get it out of my head how men can do this to women.
The following day I perused the net to find the story only to hear about the rape but none of the details of the rape. No one was talking about it because it was so horrific, and the family didn’t want to release the details. The articles stated that the people who found her were so affected by the scene of her body that they needed to be counseled.
I found this article this morning. It gives the horrific details but one was left out from the chronicle that I heard on the radio. Not only was a broken glass bottle shoved inside of her, but her stomach was sliced open and her organs were pulled out and strewn all over the site. I only bring this up not to sensationalize the story, as it is what I heard on the radio, but because it is what happened and should be told. It should be told how horrific men are. This is a brutal actdone by men to women, and no details should be left out showing how sick men are.
If that doesn’t inspire you to do something, I don’t know what will. What is it with men on this planet? Why is there so much hatred toward women?
The brutal rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl has shaken the country’s consciousness—and inspired South Africans to share their own stories of sexual violence.
Eight days ago, in a crime that shocked South Africa, 17-year-old Anene Booysen was brutally gang raped. Her throat was slit; her fingers and legs shattered. The attackers had stuck a broken glass bottle inside her body and left her for dead on a construction site in the small, quiet Southern Cape town of Bredasdorp, about 120 miles from Cape Town. A security guard found her near lifeless body. She identified and named at least one of the alleged rapists, but died soon thereafter.
South Africa, a deeply wounded nation that still grapples with the scars of a violent apartheid past, has been jolted to its core by the gratuitous act of violence visited upon this young woman. Booysen’s case has also shattered the silence around the country’s rape crisis, which seldom gets the national attention it deserves.
This time, though, the national reaction to a rape–finally–seems to be different. This is a good thing. But it is also surprising, because collective denial about South Africa’s outrageous rape statistics has become as normal here as the rapes themselves. According to officials, rape is massively underreported in the country due to low conviction rates and the chilling effect of silence and shame. But the Medical Research Council estimates that up to 3,600 rapes happen daily in this nation of close to 52 million people. This places South Africa among the countries with the highest incidences of rape worldwide–and, outside of war zones, makes it one of the most violent societies, especially towards women.
It is difficult to know why this particular attack has yanked South Africans out of their complacency. For years now, there has been a particularly brutal epidemic of rapes and murders of black lesbian women in South Africa’s townships, for example. But activists have never really succeeded in getting South Africans to react with urgency and collective determination to root out sexual violence.
The newfound outrage over Booysen’s death might be connected to the global focus on a similar gang-rape in India, which has enflamed that nation and set off calls for harsher sentences for rapists. It’s possible that the India case could have quietly touched the hearts and minds of South Africans more than they realized—and that Booysen’s tragic demise might herald South Africa’s own awakening on the issue. Whatever the reason, the country is now embarking, somewhat clumsily and haphazardly but with unprecedented frankness, on a journey of talking about an evil that had been ignored for too long.
Over the last two days alone, I’ve lost count of the number of stories listeners have shared with me on my daily chat show on Talk Radio 702. One married man is grappling with the memory of a woman who molested him when he was very young. She was his mother’s friend. Another man stopped his car while driving to call in to the show and publicly, for the first time, talk about criminals who had hijacked him years ago but only drove off with his car after gang-raping him. Women and girls make up the highest number of victims, including many of my media colleagues who have shared their stories with me in confidence after reading about my own rape in my recent book A Bantu in My Bathroom.

…Ann Hathaway has been on my radar lately. Almost a week ago I mentioned her standing up for her gay brother and leaving her church behind. Yesterday I briefly mentioned her in my write.
Today I want to blog further about the incident of Hathaway’s vagina being exposed in a photo and posted in the media for all to see, since the hot topic these past few days has been talk of media exposure with respect to the young victims in the Sandy Hook Massacre.
The Media. It can be your best friend or worst enemy depending upon what is said or in this case what is “seen.”
“It was obviously an unfortunate incident,” she continued. “It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it–and do the decent thing–sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants which brings us back to ‘Les Mis,’ that’s what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there’s no social safety net.”
With respect to Hathaway’s “wardrobe malfunction”, (is that what we call it when a woman is not wearing underwear and the media snatches a photo of her vagina?) and in light of the above comment from Hathaway, the question I want to ask is, why is the cameraman’s photo focused on her crotch instead of her face? My guess is…no let me rephrase…I know the media is looking for things like this to post, and hoping that they will snatch a look good enough to sell. Which is exactly what happened.
I am sickened by the media and their disrespect for women. This is no “wardrobe malfunction”, as if her dress malfunctioned in some way and it is Hathaway’s fault that her vagina was caught on film. This is an intentional, “let me put my camera low enough, or at a specific angle, to see if I can snatch something that I can sell for the big bucks”.
But unfortunately the media…okay let’s just say it (because the photographers are mostly men) “men” are not decent or they wouldn’t be focused on her lower body parts to begin with. The media has every intention to try and capture whatever they can so they can expose it to the public for the big bucks. And women are almost always the victims when it comes to this sort of thing. And if a photographer does happen to catch something unintentionally, then be pleased that you got a peek and then delete it. I agree with Hathaway - The decent thing to do is to delete it.
Women have every right to dress as they feel and should not have to worry that should they have a “wardrobe malfunction”, they need to be concerned about seeing their private parts exposed to the public. Once again, this goes back to men disrespecting women (Lauer is a perfect example) , and money being the motivating factor because sex sells.
I could go on but I’ve got a group of girls that I am meeting for lunch and this girl’s got to put on her party dress and get ready to leave. So…I’m going to open the forum and let you finish. Give me your two.
What are you “just noticing”? Blog me.

…In her review of 1058 Hoagie, a newly opened sandwich shop in San Francisco, SF Weekly’s Anna Roth took issue with what she perceived was a lack of creativity in the menu. Her piece ran with the headline, “Deli Bored”:
[T]he hoagies follow the standard Italian sub playbook almost exactly, and when they do deviate from the expected, their flavors aren’t special enough to seek out.
1058 Hoagie, not a restaurant to take such a slight sitting down, fired back in menu form by re-naming its daily specials board on Wednesday “anna roth is boring,” and “anna roth, still boring” the next day. It seems the feud is lowering to a simmer, however, because Friday’s specials board was named “onward. talking about anna roth is boring.”

Colin Powell’s former chief of staff condemned the Republican Party on Friday night, telling MSNBC’s Ed Schultz, “My party is full of racists.”Retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson made the comment in response to Mitt Romney campaign surrogate John Sununu’s suggestion on Thursday that Powell’s endorsement of President Barack Obama’s re-election was motivated by race. Wilkerson, who served as Powell’s chief of staff when the general was secretary of state during the first George W. Bush term, told Schultz that he respected Sununu “as a Republican, as a member of my party,” but did not “have any respect for the integrity of the position that [Sununu] seemed to codify.”When asked by Schultz what, if anything, the remark said about the attitudes of the Republican Party, Wilkerson said:
My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people — not all of them, but most of them — who are still basing their positions on race. Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that’s despicable.
No shit. Finally a republican tells the truth.

Aircraft carriers USS John C. Stennis, front, and USS George Washington sail in formation with an escort vessel during a training exercise in waters near Guam, earlier this month.
TOKYO – It’s probably just a coincidence; no need to worry yet. But the U.S. has quietly assembled a powerful air, land and sea armada not far from where Japan and China are squaring off over disputed islands in the East China Sea.
Two Navy aircraft carrier battle groups and a Marine Corps air-ground task force have begun operating in the Western Pacific, within easy reach of the Senkaku Islands. That’s where Japanese and Chinese patrol boats are engaged in an increasingly tense standoff.
Chinese vessels have repeatedly entered territorial waters around the small islands in recent weeks and Coast Guard vessels from Japan and Taiwan fired water cannons at each other last week. The islands are controlled and administered by Japan, but claimed by both China and Taiwan.
No warships have been directly involved in the confrontations, so far. But China has vowed to continue sending patrol vessels into territorial waters and Japan has assembled scores of Coast Guard vessels to “defend” the islands.
The U.S. hasn’t taken sides in the ownership dispute, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called for “cooler heads” to prevail. Nonetheless, U.S. officials have stated clearly that the Senkakus fall under the U.S.-Japan security treaty, which would require the U.S. to come to Japan’s aid in case of attack.
Navy officials confirmed Sunday that the USS George Washington carrier strike group has begun operating in the East China Sea, near the disputed islands. The USS John C. Stennis group is only slightly further away in the South China Sea. Each carrier is armed with more than 80 warplanes, and strike groups typically include guided-missile cruisers and destroyers, submarines and supply ships.
In the nearby Philippine Sea, some 2,200 Marines are embarked aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard and two escorts. The Marines are equipped with amphibious assault vehicles, light armored vehicles, artillery, helicopters and Harrier fighter jets.
Carrier groups and Marine task forces often operate alone, so the convergence of the three groups in a relatively small part of the Pacific represents an unusual concentration of firepower. All three are fresh from training exercises in and around Guam. Those exercises included live-fire with missiles and joint beach landings by U.S. Marines and Japanese ground troops.
A spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Command says the training missions and carrier deployments are not necessarily related to the Senkaku tensions. The islands are called Diaoyu in China, and Tiaoyutai in Taiwan.
“These operations are not tied to any specific event,” said Capt. Darryn James, a spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Command in Honolulu. “As part of the U.S. commitment to regional security, two of the Navy’s 11 global force carrier strike groups are operating in the Western Pacific to help safeguard stability and peace.”
In truth, the carrier and Marine deployments may have as much to do with the “re-balancing” of U.S. forces in the Asia-Pacific region, and with an unrelated crisis in the Middle East, as with the squabble in the East China Sea.
The George Washington battle group and the Marine task force, both based in Japan, were scheduled to conduct separate but overlapping exercises in the Guam region well before the Senkaku dispute heated up. Guam and nearby Tinian Island have been tabbed as a hub for the “re-balancing” of U.S. forces in the region — a hedge against China’s growing military power and ambitions in the region.
The Stennis is being sent from its homeport in Washington state to the Persian Gulf, four months ahead of schedule in response to the escalating crisis over Iran’s nuclear program. The Guam exercises allowed the Stennis to grab a few days of extra training with the George Washington group en route. The Senkakus are situated close to the major sea routes from Pacific to Mideast; it is unclear if the Stennis group is simply passing, by or will remain awhile.
The Marines, meanwhile, were expected to move from Guam to the Philippines for previously scheduled training with the Philippines military.
Navy spokesman James said he could not comment on future ship movements.
Although significant oil and gas deposits may exist within the islands’ territorial waters or exclusive economic zone, the Senkaku dispute has centered largely on old grievances and resurgent nationalism. U.S. officials have privately expressed frustration with the lack of diplomatic progress in resolving the dispute. China placed two-page ads in major U.S. newspapers this weekend, accusing Japan of “stealing” the islands and citing claims that date back hundreds of years.
The Senkakus are located about 100 miles (160 km) northeast of Taiwan and about 200 miles (320 km) east of the Chinese mainland.
While the big U.S. fleet might have been intended as a warning to China not to escalate the islands dispute, it may have been intended to focus Japan’s attention, as well.
Or, it could have been a coincidence.
