‘Just Noticing’: Observations Of A Blogger

Keeping it light today….but keeping it real…  :)

Just Noticing…

  • …that Sonny boy, er ‘disappointed’, hasn’t chimed in. Think we scared him?
  • Tiffany:  I didn’t include you in my list of girls yesterday.  My apologies to you. I wanted to comment on your write. First to say good for you for recognizing that you are beautiful – I wish I had when I was your age. And secondly, congratulations for being the first in your class in high school. It doesn’t surprise me, as I read your wisdom in the comments of your write, that you are one to watch. Lastly, I like the honesty and openness that you experience when your parents express their thoughts to you. With such support, I have no doubt you will go far. Nice to hear from you. I hope that your mom and dad will comment some time too.
  • …that when I am sleep deprived, I am just worthless. (That’s a jab at you Sonny boy.) I value my sleep, so yes, I do base my worth on a good night’s sleep, and last night I just didn’t get it. :)

No judgement…‘just noticing’.

***********

Carol: From your comments you seem to have the temerity to me. You got it goin’…keep it goin’. Welcome to the sisterhood. :)

Floyd: Very telling. And you certainly told it like it is. Thank you. Obviously, spoken like a true gentleman.

Janice and Rhea: In regards to both points, I believe Obama has. I too am proud and happy to have Mr. Barack Obama as our president. Did you get his latest e-mail? I thought I would paste it so that you and all my readers can read. PS: Janice, thanks for sharing your personals. :)

Yesterday, I visited Caminada Bay in Grand Isle, Louisiana — one of the first places to feel the devastation wrought by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. While I was here, at Camerdelle’s Live Bait shop, I met with a group of local residents and small business owners.

Folks like Floyd Lasseigne, a fourth-generation oyster fisherman. This is the time of year when he ordinarily earns a lot of his income. But his oyster bed has likely been destroyed by the spill.

Terry Vegas had a similar story. He quit the 8th grade to become a shrimper with his grandfather. Ever since, he’s earned his living during shrimping season — working long, grueling days so that he could earn enough money to support himself year-round. But today, the waters where he has worked are closed. And every day, as the spill worsens, he loses hope that he will be able to return to the life he built.

Here, this spill has not just damaged livelihoods. It has upended whole communities. And the fury people feel is not just about the money they have lost. It is about the wrenching recognition that this time their lives may never be the same.

These people work hard. They meet their responsibilities. But now because of a manmade catastrophe — one that is not their fault and beyond their control — their lives have been thrown into turmoil. It is brutally unfair. And what I told these men and women is that I will stand with the people of the Gulf Coast until they are again made whole.

That is why, from the beginning, we have worked to deploy every tool at our disposal to respond to this crisis. Today, there are more than 20,000 people working around the clock to contain and clean up this spill. I have authorized 17,500 National Guard troops to participate in the response. More than 1,900 vessels are aiding in the containment and cleanup effort. We have convened hundreds of top scientists and engineers from around the world. This is the largest response to an environmental disaster of this kind in the history of our country.

We have also ordered BP to pay economic injury claims, and this week, the federal government sent BP a preliminary bill for $69 million to pay back American taxpayers for some of the costs of the response so far. In addition, after an emergency safety review, we are putting in place aggressive new operating standards foroffshore drilling. And I have appointed a bipartisan commission to look into the causes of this spill. If laws are inadequate, they will be changed. If oversight was lacking, it will be strengthened. And if laws were broken, those responsible will be brought to justice.

These are hard times in Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast, an area that has already seen more than its fair share of troubles. The people of this region have met this terrible catastrophe with seemingly boundless strength and character in defense of their way of life. What we owe them is a commitment by our nation to match the resilience they have shown. That is our mission. And it is one we will fulfill.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

Zen Lill: I hope your day was beautiful. :)

Kaylani: Not sure if this is the same Kaylani that blogged awhile ago, but no matter…thank you for the kudos. :) Hope you are doing good.

Linda: It’s been going on for a long time and it is time for it to end.

Peacin’ out…have a sensational Sunday!

The Readers Have Spoken

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 5th June 2010

Now it’s my turn.

Sonny: Well, I guess you got an eye full from my readers – They were certainly flapping their lips. – bet you wish you had kept your mouth(s) shut now. I say ‘mouths’ because you can’t fool me. I wouldn’t be surprised if you and ‘disappointed’ are the same person. In fact, I would bet on it. You are just a tad upset that I hit you where it hurts aren’t you? And now with all of the comments from my readers you probably just want to bury your head and hide. I guess it’s a good thing no one knows who you are so you can quietly disappear.

I’ll speak for myself as Zen Lill has already given her two. And FYI: I won’t be as gentle and accepting of your ‘points’ as ZL. Your points are not taken at all, and they are not accepted by me.

Pt1: Bragging about it “spoils any natural beauty that you have.”. I think Bert said it best, thank you, but I’ll add my two. If you’ve been reading my blog which I doubt you have, or you would know, my blog is rarely about me. And when I do speak about myself, I don’t brag about my beauty. Okay maybe a few times, but so what if I did? A fact is a fact as many of my readers have pointed out.

And another fact, besides posting a new picture now and then, which yes, I do enjoy doing, I prefer the attention to be off of myself and on the subject at hand which to me is way more important than a beautiful face. But, don’t misunderstand me, if my beauty is going to help get me where I want to go, if my beauty is going to inspire someone to take action in something that is important to me, then believe me I am going to put my pretty face out there along with the rest of my assets to get what I want. Don’t men do that too? The difference is, I’m going to use all that I have to get where I want to go without putting others down to get there.  Which brings me to your next point….

Pt2: Bragging about it “is an insult to women who may not have these equal physical attributes” (being boasterous is an unatractive quality no matter who it comes from because not all can make those same claims.) I think Ike made a great point, but I’ll add my two also.

If you’ve been reading my blog, which now I’m sure you haven’t, you would know that the last thing I would do is make any woman feel uncomfortable reading my blog. I am a girl’s girl. My goal is to uplift women….my goal is to empower women…my goal is to combat the criticism and cruelty and give women the courage to stand up for themselves and not take this kind of crap that men feed them daily. Yeah, there’s enough men out there putting women down as you and aka: ‘disappointed’ have just displayed.

I’ll say it again: Most men and women who read know that I am a girl’s girl through and through. In fact, men like you who try to keep women down, who know how much I promote and support women, have often called me a man hater more than a few times on my blog. I deal with it. They call me a man hater because I expose men and the atrocities that men do against women, against our planet….whatever. And I will continue to do so until women take their rightful place beside men, and if we have to leave the men behind, so be it.

Pt3: Bragging about it “says that women are mere eye candy (and we all know that a woman is much more than her physical appearance)” Who said that women are mere eye candy? I never did, and the women who read my blog would never think that I would ever think that about women. That is a fact. And in respect to me basing my worth on my looks: I won’t even take the time to address that ridiculous statement.

So…why not dis ‘disappointed’? He’s the one who chimed in only when I posted Zen Lill’s photo. She’s been commenting on my blog almost daily for two years and he only makes a comment when I post her picture, to tell her she’s not all that. Obviously he’s been reading her comments but he only responds and comments over the ‘physical appearance’.  Talk about someone who is only seeing ZL as mere eye candy. Oh yeah…but you can’t dis ‘disappointed’, you and ‘disappointed’ are one and the same aren’t you?  Obviously that is what you think. It goes without saying that I am aware that there is so much more to women than their physical appearance. Do you? I think I’ve made my point.

However, don’t get me wrong, do I recognize physical beauty when it is in front of me? You bet. I recognize all the amazing qualities that women embody. Whether we want to admit it or not women are considered second class even in this country. So, as I said above, if a woman wants to use all of her assets: brains, beauty, charm, and whatever else, to propel her to where she wants to be, I say go for it, and I support her 100%. Again, if you were an avid reader of my blog you would know that about me….you would know that is how I feel about women.

As far as saying that,  “good looking women (and you both are) are not rare”. I’ll just answer with, “Decent men (and you aren’t) are rare.”

My last point: I shine daily on my blog and it is not just because of my beauty, but from the readers that inspire me here every day. So go back into the archives and read, or stick around and read. You have no idea the type of girl I am. You’ll soon learn that your quick judgement of me and Zen Lill is way off, and you’ll be eating your word salad with fact free dressing. (I just had to use that again:)

So…Sonny aka, ‘disappointed’: I do have more to say to you. “Your ego got the best of you…your ego got bruised, and you’re taking it out on women. Typical of many men. Get over it. Women have to get over much worse things men say and do to women daily, and we have a lot more to endure than just a bruised ego. “

Doug: I love your poem – can’t wait to hear the words when you put it to music.

Linda: Right on.

D.C. Al: You said it better than I did.

Cybil, Julia, Ellen, Lois, Michelle, Regina, Barbara, Helena, Luisa, Marianne, Ito, Sua, Eileen, Dorrie, Noreen, Fredia, Marlene, Fala, Dung, Zela, and all the other girls that possibly tried to get in a ‘brag’ but couldn’t: I love it! – You are all beautiful in so many ways – keep bragging the facts!

PS I would love to say more about the other topics but I must go eat…I’ll address the other comments tomorrow. Thanks.

Peace out…

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. Flap Your Lips Friday

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 4th June 2010

Bookmark and Share

A long time ago I was advised, firmly but gently, by the TAO, that I must control my emotions when I am dealing with life matters. The problem, is that I am a very emotional being. I always have been. That’s the good news and the bad news. And when life matters that are important to me, when they are dear to my heart, and I feel empathy or anger from danger or plight, the first thing that I do is cry. I cry because I feel so much, and at times feel helpless, wishing that there were more that I could do.

The reason that I was advised that I must control my emotions is because when one gets emotional and overwhelmed by feelings it is difficult to be levelheaded, which is needed to think clearly. I was advised to address the issue by merging with the situation, and by merging with it, one creates the environment needed for a solution to arise. Don’t waste energy protesting or complaining. Except the ‘isness’ of the moment: This is how it is. Then act from being, not ego. Actually the last two sentences were my additional advice to myself. :) But nonetheless, good advice all around – thank you TAO.

Now, because of my blog, I have much more exposure to world issues and matters. I dive much more deeply into things that touch me deeply. Therefore, I have had to heed this advice or I would mostly be a wet-eyed, tear-stained face, useless mess of a girl, going nowhere, lost in her emotions and drowning in unresolved affairs. Okay…that’s pretty dramatic…so maybe not that bad, but on some issues, yes, I was that bad.

Quick to tears, I still am, but now I don’t let me emotions overwhelm me…well most of the time I don’t. I allow myself a few minutes, no more. And then, like I have said here before, the words, ‘Deal with it’ pops into my head and stop my tears in their tracks. They are words that I say to myself all of the time, else I would be that girl described above a lot more.

And what good would I be to anyone then? Compassion is a wonderful quality that I do pride myself in having. I used to think that if I didn’t emotionally feel…if I didn’t physically feel (tears), I wasn’t compassionate, I wasn’t alive. Compassion alone only goes so far. I have learned that I can still feel really deeply about something, not be overwhelmed by my emotions, and actually do something that can help. To have an impact and create change, compassion needs to be hand in hand with action.

So why am I writing all of this?  I got on the Huff Po last night and saw the photos of the animals soaked and matted with oil from the BP spill.

An oil covered seabird sits on the beach at East Grand Terre Island along the coast of Louisiana, June 3. As the Gulf of Mexico oil spill continues to extend, concern is growing for the wildlife that stand in its path, especially since many of the coastal animals are currently in their reproductive seasons.

I posted this photo wondering what was going on in the mind of this bird. One day this bird is in Paradise and the next day in peril, and having no clue as to why.  And this morning I can still feel my emotions begin to arise (I am still learning :) I am so familiar with this feeling now; it is the same feelings I get when I receive a PETA catalog in the mail, or read about women being abused.

But now, I can still feel compassionate but I am able to deal with it, and every day I get stronger and stronger, and I learn how to deal with it better and better. And yes, when I am in a calm state accepting the ‘isness’ of the moment, I create the environment for solutions to arise.

But today, as I stare as this photo of this bird matted in oil, I am calm, but I have no solution. I can only feel its pain and confusion…and I wish I was there to give this bird care, and return her to paradise.

Readers: This bird can not flap its wings, but you thankfully can still flap your lips. Does anyone have any solutions for this monstrous disaster that this oil spill is causing? Blog me.

************

Hi Helena: How are you? Nice to hear from you. I have nothing to add to your comment except to say that your point is well said.

Beatrice: Please don’t take this personally as I would say this to anyone asking this request.  I am sure that you will understand, once I explain:

If I posted your photo today, everyone else would then blog me expecting me to post theirs. The reason why I posted a photo of Zen Lill is because she has not only been an avid reader of my blog for over two years now, but she is a regular commentator and has a following. If you or anyone else puts the time and dedication that ZL does into my blog and you too have a following, then I would most certainly consider posting your picture. But I am sorry, not until then.

So ladies and gentlemen…readers of my blog, do not e-mail me any photos or send them to me via the post office. I will not be posting them on my blog, nor will I return them.  Thank you.

Zen Lill: Well….hey, nice to know I’d be on your radar should that thought ever come to mind :) I liked your comment to ‘Disappointed’ in regards to loving yourself – well said. Speaking of…

Disappointed: I wasn’t sure if Zen Lill was going to ignor you or say something, and I wanted to follow her lead so I withheld my comment to you until now.  And since she did, I will give you my two. It seems to me that when a man cuts down a woman as you have, it is not only rude, and disrespectful (What did she do to you to deserve such words?), but what this really tells me is that you know that you’ll never get close to anything as pretty as this woman. That’s what men like yourself do when they know they can’t have it – they cut a woman down like what she has is nothing special (She’s not good enough for me!) They reject before they are rejected. Yeah, that’s your ticket all right.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Walk On Water

Good morning. No topic to speak of today. This morning I had issues getting into my blog, so I will be posting late. I was logged out for some reason and my password would not work. I was not receiving the e-mails to allow me to reset my password so that I could login. It is finally resolved.

So I am just going to respond and let you all do the chatting. Although before I do, since it is Wednesday, hump day…how about having some fun and challenging yourself to a walk on water? Impossible? These guys don’t seem to think so. As in the words of ‘Alice’: “Sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

Readers: Think you can walk on water?

Doug: From what I posted the other day and have read, I agree with Trish too: Good argument – I’m with you too. I too would prefer Wood over Kagan, but Kagan is who Obama nominated. Kagan may not be the best choice, considering the conservativeness of some of those serving the court, but she could quite possibly be the right choice.

Not my first choice, but certainly my second. But as we know, the Republicans would never go for Wood, so I think Obama made a good choice, and I support him. But more than anything, I am just delighted that we’re going to have another woman on the high court. So like Caroline and Ruth, I’ll run with Kagan; at least he listened to his right hand lady and picked a woman. I’m excited for Kagan and I look forward to her taking her place for a long time.

Peter: Interesting. Please keep us posted of your findings.

Mike: Obama and his campaign team knew how to get it done via the net. The Republicans are now hip to the power. It is going to be one crazy helluvan election. Oh…and it seems Ann Coulter is getting a little competition from Michelle Malkin. Conservative cat fight, or will they be the Townhall team?

Alice: Thanks for your persistency in getting your article posted. It is important. And nowadays with camera’s on almost every phone, if not every phone, taking photos is so convenient and easy.

Van: I was wondering if anyone was going to make the connection. Interesting Huh? We’re pretty much the opposite in what we stand for…I won’t say everything, because I don’t know enough about her, but a lot of what she seems to stand for is what I want to lay down and bury.

Ruth: Hi. Nice to hear from you. I hope that you and Evelyn had a lovely Mother’s Day together. Nice write – Thanks for the much needed reminder. I hope you and the girls are well.

Sidney: Girl, you need to go for it with the sister. You’ve been waiting way too long. If it doesn’t pan out, at least you gave it a shot and you can move on. There are plenty of pretty fish out in the sea for you to catch.

Tazib: I read your story last  night, and like so many others who share your plight, it bothered me so much. You would not need to worry about your leg if you were a girlz, and certainly being a cripple would not prevent you from being one, that I can promise. If you truly want to go, I will put in a word. Until then, I wish you safety. Take care of yourself.

Tal2: Welcome.

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

My Blog Reflects The ‘Real World’

Vince: In regards to your request, I will never bite the bullet and screen my blog. The last thing that I want my blog to be is unauthentic and artificial. What I hear on the blog is what I hear outside in the real world. My blog reflects the real world, and that’s how it should be.

Just the other day while Doug and I were riding the ferry going to San Francisco, we were passing San Quentin Jail, and a group of guys going to the baseball game starting making comments. I listened to a man say, “I don’t feel sorry for any one in there. They all deserve to be there.” Now how does he know that? So many people are convicted of crimes that they did not commit, and so many criminals are never convicted that are guilty. How can one make such a cold bold blanket statement? I looked at him, a white guy, and then my eyes were drawn to his arm where I noticed he had a tattoo of the face of a Bull dog against the American flag. I looked at Doug, ‘Just noticing’, not judging.

He then started joking with an older couple visiting from the midwest. I lost track of their conversation amongst his other friends joking and laughing around him. But the one thing I did hear was that this guy was a cop. And then the last thing that I heard come out of his mouth, and said with pride: “Oh yeah and I was in Texas. Those people down there, they’re a lot more prejudice than you and me.” He and the couple began to laugh. I was disgusted.

This cop not only admitted that he was a racist, but expressed pride that he’s not as racist as the people in Texas. So I guess he feels his racist attitude can be excused because there are people who are more racist than him? Since when is a degree of racism okay? Like Minnie said, ‘We keep our niggers under control but we treat them with compassion.” That’s like a murderer saying, “Leave me alone. I only killed one person. Arrest the guy down the street; he killed more than I did.” They’ll say and do whatever is needed to justify their racism. And this cop has the prefect job to act out his racism. Feeling safe and cozy now in the real world?

So why should I have an artificial world here and not reflect what the real world is like? Why should I make it all cozy so that people feel comfortable? The world is not always comfortable. In fact for many it is unfriendly and unsafe to say the least.

My blog is not like the many blogs out there that screen and edit as they see fit…so that no one is offended or no one’s feelings get hurt. People are offended and feelings get hurt in the real world. It should not be any different here on my blog. I am not delighted with some of the comments, actions or thoughts, on my blog, nor am I in the real world, but I allow them here because they are real.

Why should racists and sexists etc., not be allowed to express their viewpoint? We could live in a fantasy world and pretend that they don’t exist or that if we ignore them, they’ll disappear. Been there, done that. Guess what? They’re still here. Yes, ignorance is blissful, but it does nothing to advance the betterment of our world. It does nothing for those that are the target of the perpetrators. It is only for our own self; to make us feel better…to make us think that what exists out there is really not that bad.

I have news for you; it is that bad. And the more we are aware that there are many Leroys, Georges and Minnies of the world walking and living amongst us, the more that we can learn and power ourselves up…ban together and end the ‘isms’ that are destroying our country…our world. It is the only way.

If you don’t want to to feel uncomfortable….if you don’t want your buttons pushed, or a sick feeling to arise…or the disbelief that people can actually feel and act as they do towards each other, then perhaps you might want to find another blog to read, that suits your needs.

Vince, please don’t take my comments to you personally. They are said to all who have asked me before to censor my blog. I appreciate that you broached the subject again, as I have never given my answer much thought as I have done today. So I thank you for inspiring my write. And I hope that you will continue reading knowing that I will always be keeping it real.

*****************

Robert: You already know the answer to your statement. It’s not going to happen.

Floyd: Your words were meaningful and inspiring. Much more so than mine would’ve been had I chosen to respond to Leroy. I can see your heart, soul and mind are in  the right place. If only words were enough….

Randoff: Thank you for your apology. As much as I did not expect one, of course I graciously and sincerely accept it. And please don’t feel that you reacted too cruelly. My skin has thickened quite a bit since I started this blog.  I have endured much worse criticism than your quick witted response. :)

Again, thank you for the recognition and your words. I assure you they have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. And by the way, I’m addicted to my blog too. Now…before the entire staff starts to complain that I haven’t launched yet, I will end this post and wish you and all of my readers a beautiful day!

Peace out…
