Wall Street CEO’s = Reckless Gamblers

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 16th February 2010

Good morning.

So many comments coming in these past two days, all I want to do is respond. And when I get to the end maybe I’ll have something more to say in the form of a write…but then, maybe not.

Rose: Well I’d say you handled the situation with your husband and the $$ generator very diplomatically. It rarely, or should I say “it never” serves to say, “I told you so”, although it can be so tempting. :)

Thanks for the Vit D article and the compliments. It always makes me especially happy when I and others encourage women (and men!) to see another point of view…to question what ground they have been standing on for all these years: Is this really me or someone else’s thoughts, ideas, etc., that I have taken on as my own? And then…the best part? When those that have changed and decided to stand up, think for themselves, and get some ‘backbone’ as you say, turn around and inspire and persuade others…oh the ripple effect…change can happen one person at a time.

Lastly, I am so moved when I hear that people feel my blog has been so great for them. It has been great for me too. I have always loved inspiring people in any area that I am passionate about. Never in my life did I expect this would be my main venue. Thanks for tuning in…your daughters as well. :)

Bob: That one doesn’t work for me – I loved algebra. Numbers have always been my thing. Now history…ugh – hated it – I had such a dry teacher. I have learned more history, or should I say more truthful history on my blog than any school could have taught me. I like yesterday’s quote though. So far the only thing that leaks or dries up is supposed to. :)

Kay: Loved it.

Suz:  I like both of those. Here’s a good one and dedicated to those in the Bay Area, and everywhere else the earth shakes. THE EARTHQUAKES. When rearranged: That Queer Shake

Kaylani: I am thinking of you. I hope that your Valentine’s Day wasn’t too lonely for you. I wish for your love to contact you so that you can start to heal and move on in your life.

Helena: Thanks for taking time to check in with us – sounds like you have a busy schedule -congrats to your sister and her new born. You are obviously a very caring sister.

As far as the LA fashion school chum – I wish she/he would chime in and say hello. My curiosity is peaked, and I would love to know who it is. Shy? Me? Hmm…I wouldn’t ever call myself shy, but I was definitely not as outgoing living in LA. My  mind was on school and elsewhere. Say hello to my friend, and if you’re reading, ‘friend’:  Why not comment and say hello?

Liz: All I can do is laugh. When I said, “If you can’t be with the one you love…..love the one you’re with”, I wasn’t promoting infidelity, but evidently you and a few others took that as an okay to do so? Maybe, maybe not – I don’t know your relationship rules with your man. So…I’m not judging – just noticing :) Peace girl, and may your man be safe and come home soon.

Anon: So…you were checking out my ass eh? Too bad I didn’t notice you, noticing me; I would’ve bent over a little bit further so you could just get a glimpse where the top of my thigh meets the curve of my ass – that’s the sweet part. Ahhaha…don’t get me going…just having a little fun with you. :)

Frances: Again, I can only laugh. Happy to hear you enjoyed your valentine, and she enjoyed you. :)

Will: I was looking forward to responding to your comments when I read what you wrote. If I am correct, we had another gentleman reader of my blog, BTK, who had the same experiences as you have had on the Huff Po. It seems even the Huff Po, which I love to read, disapproves of the content that readers want to express when the brutal truth isn’t what they want to hear. So much for freedom of the written word. BTK and Robert, another reader, got on their soap box and flapped their lips quite frequently here. And now that I think about those two, I really miss their presence and input. Guys are you still reading?

Anyway, welcome to my blog Will. Feel free to stay and say whatever inspires you to write. I look forward to hearing more from you. Guaranteed you will be greeted with applause from some, and nasty remarks by those that oppose. Ah..and yes, I can see in the later comments, we have been invaded again by the ‘little penis’ men.  Oh…I haven’t referred to the less-endowed white man like that in a very long time. It feels good to hit ‘em where it hurts, but sadly it doesn’t hit hard enough to stop ‘em.

And please, Charles, Jack, Larry and Edward – come up with a different tag line “I want my country back” – boo hoo…. – it is soo 2009.  Shouldn’t you all be hitting on some birthers at some picnic tea party down south? Off you go…shoo now!

Yes Thomas: They do believe they are better than the rest of the world because they are white. Sick and sad isn’t it?

Zuvan:  The Sun. I love that. I worship the sun. I wish I could see your wooden ship. I bet it is fantastic. You seem young or maybe just young at heart. Either…doesn’t matter. Your write for some reason makes me feel maternal, like I want to sweep you away and take you and the rest of the girls to my great ship in the sky. There is always room for more girlz. :)

Anonz: When I saw the headlines yesterday on the Huff Po, my first thought was, “Hmm….why is he quitting?” And now, your comment. I went back and perused an article briefly this morning: “…a two-term Indiana Democrat who has never lost an election either on the state or local level, leaves a gaping hole for national Democrats to fill. A top operative in the party told the Huffington Post that the decision was “last minute” and “personal,” seemingly not driven by prospects of defeat.” No he was driven by dirt digging republicans.

What can I say? Why is it that when I think the republicans couldn’t get any worse, (silly optimistic me) there always seems to be evidence that they can? Thank you for enlightening us once again. And once again, our work is cut out for us. If you have any ideas on what more I/we can do here,  blog me. I hope that you are hanging in there…where ever ‘there’ happens to be.

Brenda: Ain’t that the truth.

Zen Lill: The Starlight Room is a fun place. Next time you’re in town we’ll go. So sorry the poison oak has got you. I hope that it leaves soon so you can enjoy the stellar weather – we’ve had a taste of it up here too, and I am loving it.

Hi Al: Thanks for the update. Keep us posted as things progress. I hope you are okay.

Doug: Don’t you have more to say?

Okay…we’ll I’ve said enough for the day, so I will leave you with this ad video:

Titled “Casino,” the spot is the latest in a series of regulatory reform ads put out by Americans United For Change, a progressive organization that has become the tip of the spear among groups advocating for Democratic-authored legislation. Joining AUC this time around is American Family Voices, an organization designed as a lobby of sorts for working class interests.

If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Peace out.

‘Just Noticing’: Observations Of A Blogger

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 7th February 2010

Hellooo…

It has been a very social weekend for me, so most of my ‘observations’ are going to be from a more personal view today.

  • I noticed that there is a drastic difference in the faces and hands of those who have smoked and drank, and abused their bodies for most of their adult life, compared to those that did it only casually, if any at all.
  • I noticed that most people don’t drive the speed limit, including myself.
  • While dancing Saturday night, I noticed one of my girlfriends got asked to dance consistently throughout the evening. The rest of us felt like wall flowers.  It became the standing joke between us girls the entire evening. Four out of the six girls were brunettes – The one out on the dance floor? A long haired blond.

  • I noticed that although many years out of high school, and many years of experience in whatever, when I am around  a large group of my high school friends, I feel as if I have stepped back in time, and no time has passed. It is not because conversing comes easily and effortlessly, but more because I don’t ‘feel’ as if I am that much older.
  • I noticed that the weatherman is not very accurate at predicting the weather.
‘Just noticing’, not judging.

Any observations you would like to share? Blog me.

************

Bob: I liked that one. A good one for today’s ‘just noticing’.

Mike: To justify slavery by commenting that these people were ’immensely charming’ is to put it bluntly, ‘disgusting’. If the party could ‘charm’ their way back into the slavery days, and worse as you had mentioned, I wouldn’t doubt they would either.

Al: I find them and sources send them to me. Some are funnier than others but I really liked this one too. We can never have enough humor in our lives.

Suz: Another great observation. Thank you for bringing to my attention as well as my readers. I read labels all of the time in regards to food product contents, and I’m constantly checking out clothing and product labels to see their source of origin.  But usually not on everyday products such as you mentioned. Thanks for ‘just noticing’.

Readers: Enjoy the Super Bowl if you are a fan.

This ‘N That Chitchat

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 6th February 2010

Good morning….I am writing extremely late so who knows when I’ll post. It happens. Blame it on the GNO last night at The Starlight Room.  It’s been awhile, actually too long, since I’ve gone out with the girls, so it was  much needed, and so much fun. What went on in your world last night?

Anyway, while I am tapping the keyboard, unless, a topic sweeps my mind that I am dying to write about, all you’re going to get from me this morning, is a few hellos and responses.

Juanita: I am still laughing at your list from the other day. Last night with the girls the calculator wasn’t pulled out but we certainly weren’t tossing twenties on the table either. besides the other ‘truths,  the friendship among men/women was priceless.

Wilma: Thanks for you article on prostate cancer. I found it very interesting. I am also very grateful that we are able to purchase, grassfed beef straight from the cow, so to speak knowing that it is high in Omega-3. I hope the guys out there read your post. And FYI: You don’t have to be rolling in the big bucks to purchase good meat. In my opinion, eating less meat and better quality ie: Organic and/or grassfed, is better for you and the environment. Thanks too Shawn for your input.

Al: I’m laughing…not sure why but keep it coming. You know you have an audience waiting for more.  On and by the way, send pics of those teenage times :)

Grace: Thank you for your kind, supportive words. Nice to hear from the other side, not to mention the better half :) And Grace it goes without saying that you take a little credit for Glen being a good man. There’s probably not a woman out there with a good man that doesn’t deserve some of the credit, if not more.

And I have to say, I agree with you too, in regards to the ‘advances by married men and those toward married men.’ I don’t go there. Never will. I know…’never say never’. But that is one area, where the word ‘never’ feels totally comfortable. I don’t care if the man’s woman is a raging lunatic, she’s a woman, a sister, and I just don’t do that. Plus I’m married, so hey, what more is there to say?

But back to you, I am delighted that you have your sculpted man – another credit goes to you for inspiring him to take care of himself. And I’m happy that you’re going to add a few back on to please your man. The benefits for both of you, will be worth the extra pounds, I’m sure. Oh…the delight and fun you’ll both be having eating your way back to a bod that both of you can appreciate. And then Glen will be dying to get back to the beach and have you crawling all over him –  Enjoy each other – I hope last night was beginning of a new beginning. I just love your story – thanks for writing in and sharing.

Anna: Were you out dancing on a GNO too? Do you love to go out and dance as much as I do?

Mike: Your entries are not going unnoticed.  I hope that my readers are tuning in too.

Changez: I am glad that I could help. I know you were in the best hands possible for your escape out of Pakistan. I am also aware of Faatin’s arrival in Guam – she will be taken care of there as well.

Jameela – 2: I can not help but respond to your write to Faatin. When I read about your personal life and the lives of so many women…and then the story that you posted,  I can feel the anger arise in me. I too want a dull blade…I too have an imagination…I too want slow deaths for those that can so easily dish it out, but we know will cry for mercy when soil is choked down their gasping throats. Be strong Jameela – your time will come.

Readers: That’s all I’ve got today. You have more to say? Blog me.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. Blog Update

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 23rd January 2010

Almost two months ago on November 25th of last year I wrote that I needed  to put my blog second because of some personal things that I needed to get handled in my life first. I thought that a month or so would give me enough time, but as you can see it is now almost two months later.

The parts of my life that have been begging for more time and attention have gotten it. I have been addressing my health and personal matters in my life and they continue to be a priority with some progress but very little change.

And my blog? Well, I am sure many of you didn’t really see a huge difference in my presence here. I tried to put my blog second and I succeeded to a certain degree. I wrote less but as I had mentioned in my last blog update, it is very difficult for me to not put 100% into anything that I do. This was no different.

Yet I discovered my personal integrity was pulling at me in opposing directions. I had decided that in order to give more time to some personal matters, I only allowed myself a certain amount of time to research and write, and if I didn’t complete it in this time frame, honoring my time frame, I was to post it and move on.

However making a commitment to a time frame, and making a commitment to put out the best article in that time frame, was challenging.  Most of the time I felt rushed to complete my blogging in that time frame, which left me with writes that were not as well written and lacked the passion and attention that I love giving me writes…that I look forward to. And when I am not totally happy with the results,  I have a difficult time letting it go and moving on with my day. It is just how I am.

So that being said…sometimes I stuck within the time frame and just let it go, knowing it was the best that I could do within my alloted time. I was rarely satisfied with my writes. Sometimes I allowed myself more time, and I was able to post my write feeling pretty good about it. The latter happened less frequently.

I have to say, it has been interesting these past two months.

Anyway, I came to the conclusion that life’s personal matters will always be there, and that there is always going to be personal things in one’s life that need to be made a top priority, as well as other things in one’s life that also need to be made top priorities. We are all busy and we all have them. This is no new news to me.

However, since I can not make all of the things that matter most to me a top priority all of the time, I decided that from now on I am going to honor what matters the most on any particular day and make that a top priority. Some days it will be blogging, and some days it will be personal matters. It is all about balancing my priorities, and having personal integrity throughout. I think its doable.

And hopefully the days that I make blogging my top priority, you will not only get a great write, but I will feel good about it too. And some days when blogging is put second to my personal matters, my write might be shorter, and less involved, but hopefully still good for you, and satisfying for me too.

Readers: How does that sound?  Comments on the above or anything else is welcomed.

Zen Lill: Hi – thanks for checking in. Happy to hear you are having fun. It has been quiet and I miss seeing the comments from my readers but at least I know they are out there.

So my faithful readers, I am sending out love where ever you are…miss you.

This ‘N That ChitChat

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 4th January 2010

Good Monday morning.

I have to admit, the holidays have influenced me in a bad way. I have been sleeping past 8 and as much as I love the extra (?) sleep, I need to get back into my routine of waking @ 6 to get my day going.  Today was not the day to start, but tomorrow will be.

I blogged a little over a month ago that I needed to put my blog second behind some personal matters. I have, but the ease of the holidays, parties, and family gatherings sort of slipped in there too and occupied some time that I didn’t factor in. Such is life.

And I have to admit that trying to write my write and not connect with all of you, or give my full two, has been challenging. I am not very good at doing anything and not putting my whole heart into it.  I have seen a difference in my writing as I had expected, but I have to say I don’t like it. Love is in the details, and in this case ‘good editing’. Well, it is what it is – Ugh, that sounds so 2009. Can we think of another catch phrase for twenty-ten? :)

I guess the saving grace, although not for those of you who have been trying to comment,  is that it has been challenging for all of you to write in, let alone ‘see’ my blog these days so there are not many comments to respond to. That in itself gives me a break, but hey, it is not my desire. Except, of course, the lucky regulars who seem have a free pass when it comes to commenting. I’m not sure who’s got their finger controlling the flow.

Zen Lill: I wanted to make a comment back in regards to ‘happiness’. I appreciate your thoughts on this. I just want to add that I do think that happiness can be manifested. I am not saying that there are not things in life that can make someone unhappy. There are plenty. But I do find that when one is unhappy about something, one can always find something that can change their emotion instantly if one chooses.

I am not saying to not honor unhappiness, but it is easy to dwell on all that is not good, and continue down that path. I say choose happiness instead. Again, it may not be as easy as said, speaking from experience :), but it is a choice that one can choose, in my opinion.  I have seen this time and time again in my own life. I can read, or even think about something sad or disappointing in my life, and find myself in tears and upset, and I can ‘switch’  to a beautiful thought, or appreciate and be grateful for something, and my emotional state can instantly change, if I chose to change. That is really the key…to choose. Sometimes I choose to stay with my unhappy thoughts and be miserable…be with it.

It is our thoughts that bring on the emotion of happiness or unhappiness. So yes I do think you can focus on happiness or plan it. Actions are a part of it, but too many people rely on an actions to fulfill their happiness. “Oh I’ll be happy when I get this new job, or this new relationship, or this (action) happens.” Thoughts precede action. And as we all know, the mind is a very powerful thing. Pleasure can be attained strictly by the power of thought, and sometimes a lot easier than by the action itself. Happy thoughts are accessible now. Happiness is a state of mind. And again, just my two. Thanks for continuing the discussion!

I would love to catch up with you live. Let’s try to talk this week -okay?

Anna: I just want to tell you that I finally did receive your DVD in the mail – thank you! That was so kind of you.  Your persistency worked.  I watched it and I have to say that Guam is beautiful. Of course I love the beaches, being an island girl at heart! Ritidian Beach is so appealing, and ‘lover’s point’…well what can I say, I would love to go there with my lover :). Hopefully some day I will. And the food…my kind of nibbles. It all looked simply delicious. Thank you for sharing your world with me. Hafa Adai.

Readers: I’m done for the day. If you have anything to say, blog me. Otherwise, I’ll catch you here tomorrow.

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle
