What Love Means…

…to a 4-8 year old

My good friend Tracey sent this to me:

Touching words from the mouth of babes.

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, ‘What does love mean?’ The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

  • ‘When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.’ Rebecca- age 8
  • ‘When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’ Billy – age 4
  • ‘Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.’ Karl – age 5
  • ‘Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.’ Chrissy – age 6
  • ‘Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.’ Terri – age 4
  • ‘Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.’ Danny – age 7
  • ‘Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that.? They look gross when they kiss’ Emily – age 8
  • ‘Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents ?and listen.’ Bobby – age 7 (Wow!)
  • ‘If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,’ Nikka – age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)
  • ‘Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.’ Noelle – age 7
  • ‘Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.’ Tommy – age 6
  • ‘During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.’ Cindy – age 8
  • ‘My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.’ Clare – age 6
  • ‘Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.’ Elaine-age 5
  • ‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.’ Chris – age 7
  • ‘Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.’ Mary Ann – age 4
  • ‘I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.’ Lauren – age 4
  • ‘When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.’ (what an image) Karen – age 7
  • ‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross.’ Mark – age 6
  • ‘You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.’ Jessica – age 8
  • And the final one…The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. ??When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, ‘Nothing, I just helped him cry’

Readers: Tell me you loved this as much as I did. I don’t even have children so I can imagine the reactions from those that do. :)

Debbie: It sure is time isn’t it?

Sharon: Good for you. Let the training begin. And I love that…yes! Let’s wake up the sleeping sisters!

Elle: Yes, get off that wagon. I appreciate the beauty that I have. Beauty can take you far but it only goes so far, and then there better be something else. I won’t deny that I work on trying to stay young looking and in shape, (what woman who cares about herself doesn’t?) but I work on the something else much more. Appreciating your true beauty, and not trying to be someone else, is where it’s at. :)

Ursla: Your needs are just as important.  Next time your man needs something cleaned asap, show him how to use the washing machine, and take that time you’re saving and do something for yourself.

Margarieta: Wonderful – Love it. Be an example for your girlfriends, and your daughters – Break the pattern.

Maria: Your advice to Latina women is really advice for all women. No woman should have to put up with the Bull shit men try to feed them. Happy to see that you aren’t.

Imo: I HOPE the comments from the other girls here will inspire you to not be that way anymore.

Claire: I can’t imagine what you and other models must go through emotionally over your looks. I know that it is a secret dream of many young girls – fame and fortune…the fast exciting life. I admit, when I was young I wanted it. Thankfully I didn’t fit the ticket. I wasn’t a strong enough girl to handle the constant rejection or feedback on my looks.

I’m not against finding a rich husband. Rich men look for pretty models for wives, such as yourself all of the time. And as Ruth said, “You can love a rich man as well a poor man” or something like that. Anyway…I am not a financial advisor, But in the mean time, if I were you, I would be socking away and investing as much money as I could to build your own little next egg just for you. Do so even when you get married, because you never know if something younger and prettier will catch his wandering eye.  Men do it all the time so, as I say, “What is good for the goose is good for the gander”. Oh…and congratulations on your new job! I HOPE to see that cover shot.

Hera: I had to laugh about your husband. :)

Zen Lill: I think I remember that comment with Kate Winslet. It is raining here too and I kinda like to also. I am off to lunch at NM with a group of girls that I haven’t seen in ages. Should be fun – I HOPE your holiday parties have been fun too.

Everyone have a wonderful Sunday! Peace out.

Crying, Compromise, and Tax Cuts

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 13th December 2010

Good morning!

Ha! I love it when Anonz chimes in. My number of comments always go up, and the focus isn’t on me or what I’ve blogged. Makes my following morning write so much easier when most of the comments are directed toward… “The Nobleman”. :)

So speaking of my morning write – what is going on? So much to chitchat about.

We watched 60 minutes last night – did any of you watch it? Did you catch cry-baby Boehner? Is that too harsh on a man who is just showing us his soft side? Maybe I should lighten up and address him as Boo-Hoo Boehner. Stil harsh?

Look, I don’t knock a man who cries – I think everybody should be able to have a good cry now and then. I think crying is good. (I certainly do. More often than I like – hey, it’s a great stress reliever.:)

But it seems lately that every time John Boehner appears on TV, in public, he gets chocked up and tears start streaming. I know he is an emotional guy…

And I also know, that if a woman politician showed her soft side so often, chocking up, tears streaming down her face, she would be known throughout the political world as being too soft…too emotional, she won’t be able to handle the job. (And we’ve also heard negative comments when a woman is too strong. Ugh!) But what about Boehner? How will he be perceived? Well…I guess his tears, in time, will eventually tell.

Thoughts? Are you moved by his emotions? Do you buy it or ??

And what about Boehner’s thoughts on “Compromise”? Not a word in his vocabulary. He rejects the word.

Boehner: When you say the word “compromise,” a lot of Americans look up and go, “Uh-oh, they’re gonna sell me out.” And so finding common ground, I think, makes more sense.

Uh..Okay.

What are your thoughts about the Bush tax cuts?

Will the tax cuts plan pass? That is the big question for today.

First Senate vote expected on Obama-GOP tax deal

WASHINGTON – Senators get their first chance Monday to vote on the tax-cut deal struck by President Barack Obama and Republicans, but whatever the outcome of the test vote, the White House expects the bill to pass by year’s end.

“Everybody understands what it would mean for the economy if we don’t get this done,” Obama adviser David Axelrod said Sunday.

The No. 2 Senate Democrat, Dick Durbin of Illinois, said a “good cross-section” of senators in his party are ready to accept the deal.

The legislation would avert a Jan. 1 increase in income taxes for nearly all Americans, including middle and high earners. The package also would renew a program of jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed and put in place a one-year cut in Social Security taxes.

“We believe that when it comes back to the House, that we will get a vote, and that we’ll prevail there, because at the end of the day, no one wants to see taxes go up on 150 million Americans” on New Year’s Day, Axelrod said. “No one wants to see 2 million people lose their unemployment insurance.”

While many House Democrats have criticized the tax deal, Axelrod said he didn’t foresee “major changes” being made by the House.

Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, a member of the Democratic leadership who represented the House in negotiations with the administration, made clear that Democrats strongly object to extending breaks to estates as large as $5 million. He said the package will be taken up in the House in some form, but there would be an effort to change the estate tax provision.

“We’re not talking about blocking the whole thing,” Van Hollen said.

At the insistence of Republicans, the plan includes a more generous estate tax provision: The first $5 million of a couple’s estate could pass to heirs without taxation, and an additional $5 million for the spouse. The balance would be subject to a 35 percent tax rate.

That provision infuriated Democrats who are already unhappy with Obama for agreeing to extend tax cuts at incomes of more than $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for couples, and who say the tax breaks will unnecessarily add to the rising federal deficit. In all, the package would cost about $855 billion, according to a preliminary congressional estimate.

Axelrod spoke on ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’ “Face the Nation” and CNN’s “State of the Union.” Van Hollen appeared on “Fox News Sunday” and Durbin was on CNN.

Nancy: Loved your comment. There is not a call for girls right now but stay tuned and keep reading. When more girls are needed, I will always announce it here. Don’t give up the studying. We could always use more intelligent women economists.

Philby: I have yet to read the General Info entry so I can not make an intelligent comment. But I will say, in response to your comment, that there is nothing wrong working for fast food companies. And I appreciate those that do and enjoy it, because there is a need for that kind of work. But there is never a need to apologize for ranting here. Rant on as you feel the need. :)

Elliot: I don’t have any expectations of my readers. They come here for a variety of reasons. Read what you like, and don’t read what you don’t. It’s really that simple.

Mary: Anonz hasn’t been here in quite some time. So I suggest you read the archives at least 9 months back, maybe more. And, even though it was a long time ago, I am still sorry for your loss.

Peace out.

This ‘n That Chitchat

Good morning!

I don’t know if it was my server, but last night I couldn’t see my blog, nor even get to the administration part of my blog to see what was going on. But this morning, I am back up and running. Running? Well maybe my blog is but me personally. I am really just taking a slow stroll. I have been running all week and today I just want to check in and say hello.

Hi Stacy: You commented a few days ago and I wanted to respond – Better late than never. Congratulations for finding your love here too. I just get a kick out of the fact that so many people have met through my blog. It would be interesting to find out just how many. All I can say further is, any brother who takes the time to write e-mails for his sister because she is unable is a sweetheart in my mind. I can understand why you would fall for him. I HOPE that you have a successful, long lasting, loving marriage. Hello Glenda!

Peter: I finally got to reading your article. Once again people just want to be recognized, and they deserve the recognition and the reparation. Why is an eye never blinked to fund wars, but when it comes to reparation, nothing compared to what we spend keeping a war going, a blind eye is turned?

And McCain, of all people, opposing paying the heirs of Guam war survivors because the payments could lead to more war claims in future versions of the defense budget. So what? Pay these people. It has been a 30 year quest  - it is time to pay. I HOPE Bordallo doesn’t give up. I have faith that leaving it up to a woman will get the job done – After all it is the Decade of the Woman. :) Thank you for enlightening me more on this subject.

Shasmeen: No your cousin is not deranged. Madaline is real. And a kick ass of a girl as one can be. Take note from Baraheh. :) Be well.

Zen Lill: I have my favorite Ginger brew, but I shall try yours too. Sound so delicious! How is the Christmas tree looking?

Last but certainly not least…Evelyn and Harris: My pleasure. I’m so damn happy for both of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Happiness is what really matters – mix in all the love, respect etc., that you have for each other, and I think you have a recipe for a delicious life together. You will handle the opposing party, as you see fit, and as I can see, you already have.

In regards to me coming even earlier…3-6 months in France hanging out with you et al; it all sounds simply divine. Can I swing it? Hmmm….It is so tempting. Plus, JPG, my fave edgy designer is in the Marais, and how I would love to spend some time drooling over his latest creations. Oh and I can’t forget, Chanel, Maladrino, YSL, Mugler, Castelbajac….the list goes on. Girls and shopping? Ooh…too much fun. Evelyn, I bet you and Ruth will also know the most fabulous places to buy the latest in your blossoming local designers. I love supporting up and comers.

(Sigh)…excuse my fashion moment. It has been a long time since I have been to France. Thank you both for such a warm welcome and for your very generous offer. And most of all for wanting to take the time to spend such a luxurious amount of time together. I promise I will give it some serious thought. And no matter if the time is a month or six, I am sure it will be so very memorable. Doug and I are giddy over it. Thank you again.

Peace out everyone. See you on the flip.

Flap Your Lips Friday

Good morning!

First of all, thank you for the kind wellness wishes. I am not much better than I was yesterday, which is not like me. So, once again I am going to keep it brief.

No topic today. But before I do sign off I want to take my time to address at least a few of the comments and of course most importantly…

…I want to congratulate Evelyn and Harris for their recent engagement!!

Evelyn: I couldn’t be more delighted that my blog brought two wonderful people together and now you are in love, engaged, and soon will be married. I am soooooooo excited for the both of you! :) And, Yes!!!!!!!!! we would love to come to the wedding in France. Thank you for including us in your special day. I wouldn’t miss it!

However, Harris’s offer to pay our way is very generous but not necessary; (Are you reading Harris?) I would rather we pick up our own travel expenses, but I get the feeling that this may not be a topic up for negotiation. So for now, I would not want to upset your man, so if he insists, I accept his grand generosity with warm gratitude. Thank you.

And yes, I would also love to come out early to get better acquainted with you, and of course Harris, Ruth and “the girls“.

I am sorry that Harris’s family is not so supportive, but I am HOPEful that their hearts will open up, or else they will surely miss out.

Hmm…just the thought of finally meeting all of you makes me so happy.

And speaking of “the girls” and my blog…I can’t imagine that my blog will still be around 6 years from now but you never know. I didn’t think it would be around this long. But if it is, I will look forward to their insights and commentary.

But for now, I am thrilled over this news, and just looking forward to your wedding. And if there is anything I can do to assist in any way, please let me know. And of course, my lips will be zipped to protect your privacy. Please do not e-mail me the details of your wedding. Snail mail would be best for all concerned.

Love you back…

Hi Ruth: As always, it is good to hear from you too. I bet you are just delighted over Harris and Evelyn’s good news. I am so looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you as well! Reading about “the girls” and all they are doing is too much fun. You do have your hands full, but you seem quite happy about it. Please give them all big hugs and tell them that I am looking forward to meeting them and spending time with them during the wedding celebration. I will be bringing my tallest stilettos  :) And my best to Anonz – I HOPE that he is recovering quickly.

GT: Merci.

Now…what else is going on out there?

Larry: Thanks for clarifying. A tall blond I am certainly not. Zen Lill is obviously your pick and a good one it is. :) Hi ZL!

Jata: I have blogged about this exact same thing before.  Here’s a little excerpt from my write, “Aids, Rape For The Cure”, as I don’t think I can say it any better:

Oh please…just where did men get this idea? Answer: From their traditional healers – my guess is they were all men. No woman would ever succumb to such a myth. And what about the child? Now you’ve just infected a young girl (and yes, babies too!) with a disease in order to purge it from yourself? Gee thanks. How sick is that? And sorry….if one believes in this ridiculous act and then goes out and commits this heinous crime, and one isn’t cured of HIV or AIDS, doesn’t it prove that this myth holds no validity? Oh no….they just continue raping virgins.

Larry: I felt bad when I read your story. But it is probably for the best, as hard as it is. I usually read about men who tell their wives that they are gay, and not much news the other way around, but it does happen evidently. I HOPE that you find someone. Perhaps on my blog…you never know. :) Thanks for the kind compliments, and no you did not offend; not at all.

Okay that’s it for me today. It’s your turn to “flap your lips”…Blog me.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Gratefully your blog host,

Good morning!

First, I want to step back a few days and respond to some of you.

Girlz: Liang, nice to hear from you. It has been quite a while since you have commented here. How about telling me and my readers what you have been up to.

Zen Lill: Hey…Looking forward to it.

Howard: I didn’t notice that was a pattern here. It seems that quite a few were able to comment this time. I don’t think the subject matter matters as much as how many readers are trying to get in and comment on a particular topic at the same time, and how much my blog is being watched and trying to be blocked at that same time.

Robert: If this is our regular reader Robert, I was hoping you could tell us. You always have some enlightening answers and comments, but rarely ask questions. :)

Jessica: Thanks for enlightening me on the subject. It still amazes me that log cabin Republicans even exist. Who would side with the Republicans knowing that the Republicans are anti-gay? It is so illogical for gays to side with a party that opposes who you are and doesn’t support legislation that is important to gays, including equal rights.

And now after you present to your brother everything that Obama has done for gays, (thank you, I was not aware.) he still opposes him because he is black. How stupid is that? It just shows you how deep racism is amongst whites, even gay whites, that they will let their own racists beliefs prevent them from attaining equal status, and living their lives as fully as they can. A perfect example of cutting off your nose to spite your face. I feel the same in regards to Democrats who decided not to show up at the polls.  How stupid to default to a party that screwed up this country in the first place.

Not to mention the stupidity of the same same stupid Republicans who voted in the same same Republicans this past election, like the previous 8 years, before Obama wasn’t bad enough.

I see racism as a sign of weakness. Only someone weak would think they are better because of the color of their skin. Only someone weak would allow insane racist beliefs to rule their thoughts, knowing that their chosen thoughts are the demise of our country; our world. A strong person would see the ridiculousness of it all, and not chose these insane thoughts over logic.

But doesn’t disease act the same way? Living and feeding off the host, until that which supports it dies and the disease itself dies, because it no longer can prey on that which kept it alive. A disease, like racists, are only about self-aggrandizement…are only about living in the moment…what is best for me and mine, with little care about others and the future.

When, and not if, the Republicans mess up our country again, and they will. Will those that once again voted them in, or decided to “not bother”, finally learn, or will they continue to cut off their noses time and time again?

Uma: Consider yourself considered. :)

Iris: They are the same same as they have always been: Racists. Racism is nothing new. But it seems to me, as your father has admitted, when otws take their rightful place, beneath whites, whites are okay with otws. But if they become equal to, and God forbid, succeed whites, well them oh  no, that is not acceptable. They have forgotten their place. That is the reason why whites are screaming, “I want my country back!”. Your father had no reason to “complain” when he was living his cushy life, and otws were in their place. But now it is a different story. I am sure many families such as yours are being enlightened to the true feelings that are emerging because our president is a black man.

Bob: Thanks for that – Haha! Loved it.

Well I thought I was going to have a topic to write about today, but no. And I have more to say, but it is late so I’m going to end it here. The forum is open…Blog me.

It’s a beautiful day, enjoy it! xoxo
