Hans Rosling’s 200 Countries, 200 Years, 4 Minutes

Good morning!
Readers: I like this. I thought you might too. For those of you who saw this yesterday morning, please disregard. :)

Hans Rosling’s famous lectures combine enormous quantities of public data with a sport’s commentator’s style to reveal the story of the world’s past, present and future development. Now he explores stats in a way he has never done before – using augmented reality animation. In this spectacular section of ‘The Joy of Stats’ he tells the story of the world in 200 countries over 200 years using 120,000 numbers – in just four minutes. Plotting life expectancy against income for every country since 1810, Hans shows how the world we live in is radically different from the world most of us imagine.

Pretty Cool huh?

Have anything to say…say it here. Blog me.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Homeopathic Help for Colds and Flu

    Richard Mann, ND
Bastyr University School of Naturopathic Medicine

You may never have tried homeopathy, a form of alternative medicine that boosts the body’s own healing responses.

But if you get sick this winter, chances are that homeopathy can bring relief — if you pick the appropriate homeopathic remedy for your specific symptoms. What you need to know…

    HOW HOMEOPATHY WORKS

Like vaccination, homeopathy seeks to stimulate the immune system. A vaccine contains a tiny amount of the pathogen that causes a certain disease.

Principle of homeopathy: Substances of plant, animal or mineral origin that can cause symptoms of disease also can cure symptoms when given in the form of very highly diluted remedies.

Homeopathy is not a one-size-fits-all therapy. Rather, the remedy must be carefully matched to a particular person’s specific symptoms and his/her physical and mental reactions to these symptoms.

This individualization makes it difficult to devise clinical studies that accurately reflect homeopathy’s effectiveness. What is known: For more than 200 years, homeopathy has helped people heal.

People who have colds or flu often respond to self-treatment using nonprescription homeopathic remedies sold in health-food stores and online. Key: Match the right remedy to your symptoms.

What to do: Follow directions on product labels, taking 6C, 12C or 30C potency remedies. “C” stands for centesimal and indicates that one part of the active substance was mixed with 99 parts of alcohol…

the numbers reflect how many times the mixture went through a dilution process.

Paradoxically, the more dilute the potency, the greater the effect.

Remedies usually are sold as tiny pellets that dissolve under the tongue. Oils or other substances on your hands can inactivate pellets, so use a spoon to remove them from the container and place them in your mouth.

Do not put anything else in your mouth for 30 minutes before or after taking a remedy.

Homeopathic remedies generally work quickly. Unless otherwise directed by your practitioner or product labels, follow these instructions…

If there is no change in symptoms after several hours, repeat the dose once more. If symptoms still do not change after several hours, try a different homeopathic remedy that corresponds to your symptoms.

If you feel somewhat better after taking a homeopathic remedy, repeat it at four-hour intervals until you feel significantly better, for a maximum of four doses in total.

Once you feel significantly better, do not take another dose. If symptoms return, repeat dosing according to the instructions above.

When to seek help: In some cases, patients need prescription-potency homeopathic remedies and/or conventional medical treatment.

See a homeopathic physician or your primary care practitioner if…

None of the remedies below seem appropriate for your specific symptoms.

You have tried three or four of the homeopathic remedies below without result.

You are over age 65 or have a chronic health problem.
    You are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Important: The flu can be deadly, so if your symptoms are severe — for instance, you have a very high fever, have trouble breathing and/or feel extremely weak — seek immediate medical care.

    THE RIGHT REMEDY FOR YOU

The following homeopathic remedies are among those most commonly indicated for colds or flu. Choose the remedy that most closely correlates to your symptoms.

    Use Arsenicum album if you…
    Have alternating chills and fever.
Are thirsty and prefer warm drinks to cold ones.
Have a runny nose or burning sensation in the nose.
    Feel extremely weak.
    Are anxious or restless.
Feel worse from 10 pm to 3 am.

    Use Belladonna if you…
    Spike a sudden fever.
    Cough a lot.
Have a hot, red face (though hands and feet may be cold).
Have glassy eyes or dilated pupils.
    Have a throbbing headache.
    Cannot tolerate light.
    Feel slightly delirious.

    Use Gelsemium if you…
Ache all over (particularly if this comes on gradually).
    Feel exhausted and weak.
Have a trembling sensation running up and down the spine.
Sneeze and/or have a runny nose.
    Develop a sore throat.
    Get dizzy.
    Feel apathetic or antisocial.

    Use Hepar sulphuricum if you…
    Have a thick nasal discharge.
    Develop a sore throat.
    Cannot tolerate cold drafts.
    Are extremely sensitive to touch.
    Perspire heavily.
Feel bothered by everything and everybody.

    Use Nux vomica if you…
    Are shivering.
Sneeze frequently or feel a tickle in the nose.
    Have a backache or headache.
Have stomach cramps, nausea or constipation.
    Get more congested at night.
    Have trouble sleeping.
    Are sensitive to noise.
    Feel irritable or anxious.

    Use Pulsatilla if you…
Have had symptoms for several days.
Have a thick green or yellow nasal discharge.
    Must blow your nose often.
    Have an upset stomach.
    Crave cool, fresh air.
    Feel worse at night.
    Feel weepy or want attention.

Bottom Line/Women’s Health interviewed Richard Mann, ND, chair of the department of homeopathic medicine at Bastyr University School of Naturopathic Medicine and a faculty member in clinical practice at Bastyr Center for Natural Health, both in Seattle.

He is a diplomate of the Homeopathic Academy of Natural Physicians.

  3. Zen Lill Says:

Hi Mischa, great catching up with you, and twice! I’m happy now…like to hear your speaking voice rather than your writing voice every now and again : )

I love this video, great visuals…

Yesterday someone posted a great quote about the mix of Americans that were represented at the scene of the Gifford shooting though referring to Obama as African American only gets me, the man’s daddy was Kenyan but his mommy was whiter than me : ) – just sayin’

Women of MM blog, wahhaha…I’ve been negligent in my duties, please forgive me, had a crazy end to the old year and start to the new year, then the kiddie b’day…now the only thing between us is my total Jonesing for a SKI…! OK, so anyway, here’s your starter, start or still do that power walking only now take a watch and every 3 minutes I want you to pick up your speed to almost a full out run for 1 minute, then back it down to fast walking again and 2 minutes later, kick it up to almost a run again for 1 minute and then 1 minute of power walking and 1 minute of almost running, you can start by doing the every 3 minutes for a week and then go to every 2 minutes and eventually to every other minute…you choose…all I know is that this takes your heart straight up to training rate very quickly even at the every 3 minute level, good things are going to happen : ) a healthier heart for one thing and tighter buns and thighs for another, any other benefits are created by you ; ) so, crank it up! If you’re feeling lazy one day just go with it and power walk for ten minutes and then add this new almost running thing in for the every 3 minute interval bc even if you only do this 2-3 x’s within a given workout you will still reap the benefits. Make sure you have a dose of protein within an hour afterwards, a piece of cheese and an apple will do in a pinch but an egg or 2 would be better.
oh and breath! This is going to sound crazy but breath through your diaphragm and still hold in whatever part of your belly you can, and there is the challenge bc I want you to breath deep and strrengthen your belly muscles at the same time, hahaha…

Catch you all tomorrow, Luv, Zen Lill

  4. Aliens Says:

Eating, drinking and breathing non chemical additives gives the human body the potential to function agelessly forever. Doing them in the correct proportions satisfies that potential.

The human body like your automobile could function endlessly with the proper maintenance. if the human body is given the correct balance of chemical additive free nutrition in the presence of chemically free water and air it will not experience disease.

If it does not experience disease, it will not age because the parts will continue through cellular reproduction to replicate itself. Cells will continue to make the same tissue that comprise organs that comprise systems.

Without disease to impair the memory of the cells, they continue to make identical cells.

Your elders were not aware of the need to eat a balanced nutrition before the chemicals came. Think of relying on keeping the oil level balanced in your car but neglecting the fluids for the transition, power steering, brakes, etc.

The correct balance is necessary to keep the body functioning to its optimum. But the single greatest threat before chemicals as it is today to the body functioning agelessly was Stress!

The difference today is that stress in the presence of chemically induced substances is a certain death sentence.

Your science has turned towards cloning. Their logic is: Why be concerned with maintaining the part when it can be use to its maximum and replaced just prior to complete failure.

    Good Luck.
