Stress vs SATU

Good morning!

I chose to attend a seminar on “stress” last night instead of being present to watch Obama’s State of the Union address. Nothing against Obama of course; I was actually bummed that I made a commitment to attend in support of a friend and colleague, as well as in support of myself, and it just happened to be on the same evening.

So…I have yet to catch up and listen to the address this morning.  But I have been reading that the word “Salmon” seemed to be a big hit when more than 4000 listeners were asked to describe Obama’s speech in three words, with “inspiring” and “HOPEful’ coming in second and third, depending upon which group you looked at: Democrat, Republican, Independent.

Not surprising about the words “inspiring” and “HOPEful”, but “Salmon”? Guess you had to be there. :) And if you weren’t there listening like me, it seems Obama, made a funny, and that is what many are remembering.

Why is “salmon” so big? As The Two-Way explains, NPR’s Facebook followers were referring to one of the night’s humorous moments — when the president joked about the complicated and convoluted way the government regulates salmon.

“The Interior Department is in charge of salmon while they’re in fresh water, but the Commerce Department handles them when they’re in saltwater,” Obama said. “I hear it gets even more complicated once they’re smoked.” That last line drew big laughs from lawmakers in the Capitol.

~NPR.org

Hmm…all I can say is that those who oppose…those that bash Obama, seem to constantly want to put the state of our country on a “slippery slope”. We could all use a little humor, even if it’s just throwing a slippery “salmon” into the State of the Union mix. :)

Ok, just in case you missed this early morning comment…

Yes Steve, let’s have an address so i can come kick your ass, it won’t be convenient (neither will I) but you may be distracted by my very long lovely leg just before my size 9 swings upside your pathetic head. Oh dear – not so zen? – tough shit, you deserved that and a lot more….ZL

PS women watch your backs, one of you is probably married to Steve or a ‘Steve’

Now, about today’s post : ) I watched last night, and the salmon line was funny, especially his timing on the word ‘smoked’ hahaha…loved it. It gave some undertone to just how convoluted some of our regulation agencies are, and in this case it brought to our attention just how ludicrous it can be and that’s just about salmon : )

Stress reduction as well as a myriad of other things like poor eating etc…can really all be linked to the amount of rest we allow ourselves to have, rest/sleep regulate hormones and lots of other major body functions, get more of it and your vitey D and you’ll be amazed at how little stress you feel. Of course, changing your life to do this requires some work on your part. I’ve been modifying my sleep time by shutting off all technology (tv included, though I don’t really watch much anyway, my iPhone and reading news/this blog are more at play for me) by 8:30, and lighting candles with very little use of other light also, love it so far, and I’m hoping it helps lower my electricity bill which was just crazy high last month : )

That’s my two on Obama and stress (and Steve), caio for now, Luv, Zen Lill

…wanted to share also, a total stranger I was chatting with (weather, the party, politics and my pendulum theory of life) told me I was a ‘bit of a seductress’ hmm, I asked why would he say that? He claimed that no matter what I talk about, serious or not so serious that I pepper my conversation with smiles. Hmm, I said, doesn’t everyone? Him: no everyone doesn’t, especially when speaking about serious subject matter and your smile is a dazzler. Ok, so I’m a bit of a seductress and that apparently is why I pepper my comments here with ‘: )’ a lot (just noticed when I reread above), so I guess I really do write just as I speak : ) just thought I’d explain myself – not that anyone ever asked about all my smiling attachments…just sayin’ – ZL

  3. hrhsun Says:

Sorry, I know this is off-topic Michelle but its Wednesday and I’ve been meaning to let you and others know that there is a group called Marin County Women Seeking Women (yahoo group and facebook page) that meets weekly at Jason’s restaurant in Greenbrae. I noticed some postings about where do they women go when I first made an appearance on your blog and I wanted to get it out there and also apologize for not responding sooner. Its a social group for lesbians and their friends, straight or gay, couple and singles. We start meeting about 5:30; happy hour goes until 6:30. When the weather is nicer, there is a patio outside the bar area where canine friends are also welcome to attend. Tonight’s the night (Wednesday). It would be great to see some new faces there.

  4. Zen Lill Says:

Great idea for the bay area, Suzanne, hope you have a great turn out!

Just caught up with all your writes : ) took some time, and just to let you know, I will not be road tripping for the Gimme Shelter event this weekend, boo hoo, but Larry, it would’ve been my pleasure to meet you and chat about writing (anything else also), you are having a career at it apparently, meanwhile I’ve been writing volumes for years, much was lost and tossed in my house moves…and currently I’m engaging my little offspring in a tweenie book (series) treatment : ) so much fun, love stimulating that brain of hers…as well as my own, she loves to read, so do I, so why not indulge ourselves?

    - ZL

Michelle, happy birthday. I would have had a very happy day myself if you were going to attend the Gimme thing. I was all set to go.

But, alas I”ll wait for your next appearance. Do hope your day will be a good one.

I saw your comment to the not so subtle come-on. You think he could have been more clever?

Sorry guy, if it was that easy, we’d all be doing it.

    Jerry

  12. Chris Says:

    Michelle(Happy Birthday)

In my household the men are so against Obama it really doesn’t matter what he does or says. They just want that black man out of the white house.

    Chris

  13. Marianne Says:

My family has really surprised me since Obama won the White House. I never suspected my parents were bigots. We were raised to be respectful of the other races.

But now all we hear are snide remarks about Michelle Obama. The women in my family never miss an opportunity to dis Michelle’s hair, weight, attire or what she says, even to how she says it.

It is not lost us that our parents and elders are against a non white being in the White House as President and First Lady.

We discuss it privately. It is strange to refer to your parents and their friends as hypocrites. But suddenly they are openly anti black.

We have can’t help but notice that they can find nothing nice to say about the race since the Obamas got in the White House.

    Marianne

  14. Zen Lill Says:

Mischa, happy birthday!!! Check your mail on Sat though bc somehow I convinced myself the day was Jan 29 and I know why : ) have a great celebration day! Luv, Zen Lill

Family disagreements often escalate during the holidays. Ways to keep the peace: Ask yourself whether what is bothering you really matters enough to disrupt the holiday event.

If you feel that you need to confront the situation, keep it as positive as possible — prepare what you want to say ahead of time, and discuss the issue in private, not in front of the whole family.
