“Just Noticing”: Observations Of A Blogger

Acts of racism is something that takes place on a daily basis. Some acts are blatant…in our faces, and some we have to really pay attention…really notice the nuance to see the everyday acts of racism that are there, but are delivered with much more subtlety.

I discovered one of these subtle acts recently.

“Just noticing…”

  • …that there are companies, that you and I may support, that do not want the black business.

In recognition of BHM I wanted to publish this article that lists some of these companies, so that OTWS and concerned whites could boycott them.

Companies that do not want Black Consumer businesses (NUD)

Tom Joyner wants this information to reach his listeners. You have probably heard of ‘NUD’ as a result of the Tom Joyner morning show related to Comp USA.

NUD (Non Urban Dictate) is the acronym for a very subtle and little-known marketing term specifically directed toward people of color. ‘Non Urban Dictate’, these three words essentially mean that a company is not interested in the Black consumer. A NUD label means that a company does not want their marketing and advertising materials placed in media  that claim an urban audience B (Black folks) as their main target.

There are legitimate reasons for companies not using urban radio. It may be that  Blacks don’t index high in certain categories or that a company’s strategy is  to market to the Black consumer down the road after they have established a  strong position in their primary target. But, NUD usually means that a company is not interested in the Black consumer. Companies evade discrimination liability by embracing it as theory rather than policy.

As a service to Black consumers, the Urban Institute will list all companies that have a NUD policy. Armed with this information, we feel that Black consumers will be able to make informed buying decisions.

Here’s a list of Companies with NUD policies:

1. Starbucks

2. Jos. A Bank

3. Comp USA

4. Weight Watchers

5. Keebler

6. Life Savers

7. Continental Airlines

8. Northwest Airlines

9. America West Airlines

10. HBO – Apollo Series

11. Paternal l Importers

12. Calico Corners

13. OMScot

14. Pepperidge Farms

15. Ethan Allen

16. Busy Body Fitness

17. Mondavi Wines

18. Builders Square

19. Pottery Barn

20. Lexus

21. Aruba Tourism

22. Ciba Vision

23. KinderCare

24. Grady Restaurant

25. Eddie Bauer

26. Don Pablo

Please spread this information on to any other consumer that you consider a friend and advise them to do likewise. Remember, you CANNOT act wisely unless you are informed wisely.

Companies Not Interested In Black Consumers

************

Readers: I am one that has never heard of NUD. This is a good one to not only  ”just notice” but one that you can take action too. As I mentioned above, not only blacks, but other concerned OTWs and whites can take this information and be able to make informed decisions. So…now you know. And now you can choose to not give any of your business and support to the list of companies above.

So I say to all of these companies: “Just noticing” your subtle discrimination...not judging…But you will no longer get my money anymore. Hey, nothing personal; it’s “just business”.

Peace & Love…

Right (and Wrong) Ways to Clean Out Your Ears

    Richard M. Rosenfeld, MD, MPH
    Long Island College Hospital

Earwax lubricates the ear’s delicate skin and traps germs and debris. When you talk or eat, jaw motion pushes excess wax out of the ear canal to the point where it is visible. It can then be wiped away with a damp cloth or swab.

But: Sometimes the ear gets clogged as wax builds up. Do not try to dig wax out of the ear canal — this could abrade the skin, inviting infection… compact wax further… or puncture the eardrum.

    Better…
Wax may get stuck if it’s too dry. To soften it, once a week use an eyedropper to place two drops of unscented baby oil in each ear.

Clogs may occur if you secrete excess wax or have narrow ear canals.

To unclog: Tilt your head sideways, clogged ear up, and drip an eyedropperful of body-temperature water into the ear. Wait five minutes… tilt to the other side to drain… suction out the ear with an infant nasal aspirator.

Repeat twice daily for up to three days. If you want, you can try an over-the-counter product that dissolves earwax — but usually this is unnecessary because earwax is water-soluble.

See a doctor if… the above methods don’t help, hearing is impaired or you hear ringing.

Your doctor can remove excess wax with irrigation, suction and/or a tiny looped instrument using a magnifier for guidance.

Also, to minimize infection risk, leave earwax removal to a doctor if you have a perforated eardrum or diabetes.

Cautions: Never irrigate an ear with a dental device, such as Water Pik — the pressure could rupture the eardrum.

Never try ear candling, a procedure that involves placing one end of a hollow candle in the ear and lighting the other, supposedly to create suction — it does not work and can cause burns even if done professionally.

Women’s Health interviewed Richard M. Rosenfeld, MD, MPH, professor and chairman of otolaryngology, Long Island College Hospital and State University of New York-Downstate, both in Brooklyn, and editor-in-chief of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery.

How about this scheme to defraud your creditors and the federal government in the bargain.

Former Marine says he stole ID to join Navy
By Brett Kelman – Pacific Daily News (Guam)

A former Marine has admitted in federal court that he stole his brother’s identity, worked at Naval Hospital Guam for about 19 months under a false name and faked his suicide to cover up the scheme.

Jason Robert Daniels has offered to plead guilty to identity theft, multiple forms of fraud and misuse of a Social Security number, according to a proposed plea agreement filed in the District Court of Guam on Friday.

Daniels, his attorney and prosecutors have all signed the plea offer, but the agreement won’t be official until a federal judge approves it. A plea hearing hasn’t been set yet.

    MULTIPLE CHARGES

Jason Robert Daniels has offered to plead guilty to these crimes:

    • 10 counts of wire fraud.

    • Four counts of financial institution fraud.

    • Access device fraud.

    • Six counts of misuse of a social security number.

    • Four counts of aggravated identity theft.

According to the proposed plea, Jason Daniels first swiped the identity of his brother, Douglas Arvil Daniels, when he enlisted in the Navy in Detroit in January 2008.

Jason Robert Daniels had been discharged from the Marine Corps for “disciplinary infractions” about six months before that, the proposed agreement states.

Once in the Navy, Jason Robert Daniels was sent to Guam to work as a corpsman at the hospital from Feb. 2008 to September 2009, during which time about $60,000 of wages was directly deposited into a federal credit union account, the proposed agreement sates.

During this time, Jason Robert Daniels also used his brother’s identity to open bank accounts, get credit cards and personal loans, the proposed agreement states.

Finally, he attempted to kill off his fake identity while leaving all his earnings to his true identity, the proposed agreement sates.

Jason Robert Daniels changed the beneficiary of his $400,000 military life insurance policy to his purported brother, who was really himself, and created a will that left his property to “Jason Daniels.”

“[Jason Robert Daniels] attempted to prevent detection of his fraudulent scheme by leaving a purported suicide note in his residence; … [Jason Robert Daniels] departed Guam on about Sept. 2 2009, on a commercial flight to Chicago, Illinois, and was subsequently discharged from the Navy on about Sept. 21, 2009,” the proposed agreement states.

The credit union closed Jason Robert Daniels’ accounts, and incurred a loss of more than $16,500, the proposed agreement states.

Jason Robert Daniels was arrested in the town of Bolingbrook, Ill., in August 2010, according to District Court files.

  6. TAO Says:

The treats that present itself to the planet earth come from the Emperor. Many other visiting aliens are going about their business as they have for millions of years.

The Emperor represents the aliens that have existed on this planet well before earthlings became the apparent masters of the land surfaces. The Emperor considers these beings as more entitled to the planet than you talking monkeys that have polluted most of your surface area and are now bringing your pollution to the oceans and subsurface areas that belong to the true indigenous beings of this planet

As they still have control of three quarters of the planet, they are not yet angry enough to emerge and take the planet over. But, the Emperor is not above an occasional show of strength.

If you continue to pollute the environment of those that have been here longer than you have existed as a species, they will eventually decide that your value to the intergalactic community as a source of food is not worth the pollution that you are exposing the planet to.

They will appear over your cities and exterminate you and introduce a new top dwelling species. You as a species can be replaced. Your stewardship of the planet is rapidly becoming one of pigs in a trough.

  7. Feber Says:

In my country the specter of an invasion from outer space is ludicrous. I enjoy the tenor of this blog because it seems most here take the presence of aliens on this planet as real.

I find it silly that adults could entertain the idea that aliens are on the planet earth. I would remind those that cringe at their apparent threats that we have nuclear bombs and we know how to use them.

I would say let the aliens fear us.
