Flap Your Lips Friday

This story just makes me so sad, and angry too. This is a case of the police and the community being willing to sentence a 21 year old man with no criminal record to death, for killing a police officer who was part of a raid on the wrong house and who was shot as he and others broke into the man’s home without warning.
Cory Maye To Be Released From Prison
MONTICELLO, Miss. — After 10 years of incarceration, and seven years after a jury sentenced him to die, 30-year-old Cory Maye will soon be going home. Mississippi Circuit Court Judge Prentiss Harrell signed a plea agreement Friday morning in which Maye pled guilty to manslaughter for the 2001 death of Prentiss, Mississippi, police officer Ron Jones, Jr.
Per the agreement, Harrell then sentenced Maye to 10 years in prison, time he has now already served. Maye will be taken to Rankin County, Mississippi, for processing and some procedural work. He is expected to be released within days.
Maye’s story, a haunting tale about race, the rural south, the excesses of the drug war, the inequities of the criminal justice system and a father’s instincts to protect his daughter, caught fire across the Internet and the then-emerging blogging world when I first posted the details on my own blog in late 2006.
Shortly after midnight on December 26, 2001, Maye, then 21, was drifting off to sleep in his Prentiss duplex as the television blared in the background. Hours earlier, he had put his 18-month-old-daughter to sleep. He was soon awoken by the sounds of armed men attempting to break into his home. In the confusion, he fired three bullets from the handgun he kept in his nightstand.
As he’d later testify in court, Maye realized within seconds that he’d just shot a cop. A team of police officers from the area had received a tip from an informant — later revealed to be a racist drug addict — that there was a drug dealer living in the small yellow duplex on Mary Street. It now seems clear that the police were after Jamie Smith, who lived on the other side of the duplex, not Maye or his live-in girlfriend Chenteal Longino. Neither Maye nor Longino had a criminal record. Their names weren’t on the search warrants.
Maye would later testify that as soon as he realized the armed men in his home were police, he surrendered and put up his hands. There were three bullets still left in his gun. But Maye had just shot a cop. And not just any cop. He shot Officer Ron Jones, Jr., the son of Prentiss Police Chief Ron Jones, Sr. Maye is black; Jones was white. And this was Jefferson Davis County, a part of Mississippi still divided by tense relations between races. Maye was arrested and charged with capital murder, the intentional killing of a police officer.
After a long series of delays, Maye was finally tried in 2004 in Marion County, Mississippi. Maye’s family shied away from retaining Bob Evans, the Prentiss public defender, a decision they’d later come to regret. Instead, they pooled their money and hired Ronda Cooper, an attorney in Jackson who made a number of critical mistakes during Maye’s trial. There were other problems with Maye’s trial as well, including testimony from Mississippi medical examiner Steven Hayne, who performed the autopsy on Jones. I’d later report on a number of questions about Hayne’s workload and credibility as an expert witness. He eventually resigned from the National Association of Medical Examiners and was barred from doing any more autopsies for Mississippi prosecutors.
In early 2007, after reading about Hayne’s case on a number of blogs, attorneys from the D.C. law firm Covington & Burling agreed to represent Maye pro bono. Maye’s family also went back to public defender and defense attorney Bob Evans. (Evans would later be fired as Prentiss public defender for his decision to represent Maye.) In the fall of 2007, at a hearing in Poplarville, Mississippi, Judge Michael Eubanks threw out Maye’s death sentence, finding that he had received inadequate defense counsel during the sentencing portion of his trial. Maye was to be taken off Parchman Penitentiary’s Death Row. Eubanks resentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In November 2009, the Mississippi State Court of Appeals granted Maye a new trial, finding that he should have been permitted to move his trial back to Jefferson Davis County after his attorney mistakenly asked for a change of venue. In 2010, the Mississippi State Supreme Court upheld the order for the new trial, but on the grounds that Maye should have been permitted to offer the defense that he was defending his daughter on the night of the raid.

Readers: How can you get first degree murder when there is no way he could’ve premeditated this? He didn’t know the cop. He didn’t mean to shoot anybody deliberately. This is just so wrong. Then they force him to confess to manslaughter. This man didn’t do anything except try and protect his family from someone breaking into his home. And they give him the death penalty. Another example of ”Justice”…
I know there are many of you who have a lot more to add to my statements. Blog me.
Alycedale: I have to add too that I like your addition of handing out condoms along with the speech. Then all bases are covered. The woman has done all she can – Now it’s up to the man. Let’s HOPE he does the right thing.
Howie: Loved the title of your write. Thanks for enlightening us with the truth. I find it humorous and unfortunate. A missed opportunity. Although, if they did have an encounter of the third kind, would we even be privy to it – would it have been kept from the general public? Or shared? I guess we’ll have to HOPE that another chance presents itself, and we don’t head for the hills again.
Sharon: No need to apologize. Men are deceiving, and it is painful when you learn the truth. And the truth that you just revealed was more than I had imagined. Although, now that you know, please get yourself checked out because your man not only has a problem keeping his pants on outside of your home, but he’s obviously not having protected sex. I HOPE that you have not gotten anything from his uncovered pleasures. What a cad. I’m sorry you had to discover this but I wish you the best in your divorce.
Nora: Thanks for posting. Let’s HOPE we don’t have a country that’s so dumb to put a woman such as Bachmann in the white house. I for one will do my best to make sure it doesn’t happen.
Ellie: Thank you. And thanks for the update. I HOPE you don’t discover what Sharon did. But if you do, it’s better to know isn’t it.
Peace out

Aspirin: Still the Miracle Pill?
Stefan Gluck, MD, PhD
Even though most people think of aspirin as that “good old drug” that relieves pain and helps prevent heart attack and stroke, researchers now are finding strong evidence that it may fight other devastating medical conditions—including cancer and dementia.
Latest development: A study recently published in The Lancet showed that people who regularly take aspirin have a dramatically lower risk of dying from cancer—up to 58% lower, in some cases. Other recent research suggests that aspirin also may help promote prostate health and perhaps even curb one’s risk for Alzheimer’s.
With such positive findings, you might assume that everyone should now be taking aspirin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). But aspirin can have certain serious—and sometimes hidden—side effects. Here’s how to safely take aspirin to reduce your risk for…
CANCER
Previous studies have shown that regularly taking aspirin may reduce one’s risk of dying from colorectal cancer by 35% and one’s risk of dying from the most common form of breast cancer (estrogen-receptor positive) by up to 28%.
But the recent Lancet study, which looked at data from more than 25,000 patients, concluded that taking low-dose aspirin daily was associated with even greater reductions in some cancer deaths.
For example, aspirin reduced mortality from colorectal cancers by 40%… lung cancer by 30%… and esophageal cancer by 58%.
How aspirin helps fight cancer: It inhibits the effects of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which promote a type of cell damage that can lead to cancer.
My advice: I often recommend daily low-dose (81-mg) aspirin for patients who have one or more risk factors for any of the cancers mentioned earlier.
For example, a patient with multiple polyps in the colon would be a good candidate. So would those with a personal or family history of breast, lung or pancreatic cancer.
If aspirin causes side effects such as stomach bleeding: Ask your doctor about taking celecoxib (Celebrex), a COX-2 inhibitor in the NSAID class.
This drug reduces inflammation but is less likely than aspirin to cause gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Typical dose: 400 mg daily. Note: Celecoxib may increase risk for heart disease and stroke. If you have heart disease, talk to your doctor about the risks versus benefits of taking celecoxib.
ENLARGED PROSTATE
A Mayo Clinic study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, found that men who took aspirin or some other NSAID, such as ibuprofen (Advil), daily were 25% less likely to develop moderate-to-severe symptoms of prostate enlargement—also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Symptoms include frequent and/or urgent urination and a weak urine stream.
Researchers speculate that inflammation plays a role in BPH, which would explain the benefit of aspirin and other NSAIDs.
My advice: If you suffer BPH symptoms, ask your doctor about taking aspirin daily.
ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
A study of nearly 13,500 people, published in the journal Neurology, found that people who regularly used aspirin or some other NSAID were 23% less likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s than those who didn’t take one of these drugs.
It’s possible that the drugs reduce the accumulation of plaques in the brain, which have been linked to Alzheimer’s.
My advice: Don’t take aspirin as an Alzheimer’s preventive. The research isn’t quite strong enough yet to make it worth risking aspirin’s side effects.
However, if you regularly take aspirin or another NSAID for some other condition, such as arthritis, you may also be reducing your Alzheimer’s risk.
HEART ATTACK AND STROKE
About one of every five American adults now takes a daily aspirin to help prevent the blood clots that can lead to a heart attack or stroke.
Even patients who go to emergency rooms with heart attack symptoms such as chest pain or discomfort are now routinely given aspirin.
A large multicenter study found that people who took aspirin within 24 hours of a heart attack were 23% less likely to die than those who didn’t get aspirin therapy.
For men of all ages and women age 65 and older, daily aspirin has been shown to help prevent or reduce the risk for a first and second heart attack.
For women of all ages, studies show that aspirin therapy reduces risk for a first stroke. For unknown reasons, aspirin does not appear to prevent stroke in men.
My advice: Talk to your doctor about your risk factors for heart attack and stroke—the most common include high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, a sedentary lifestyle and/or a family or personal history of heart disease.
Your doctor may recommend that you take 81 mg of aspirin (one baby aspirin) daily if you have one or more of these risk factors.
If you think you’re having a heart attack: Immediately chew, then swallow, one uncoated regular-strength (325-mg) aspirin or two to four baby aspirin. Taking aspirin this way can reduce clotting within 10 to 15 minutes.
Do not take aspirin if you think you may be having a stroke—testing is needed to determine whether the stroke is caused by a blood clot or bleeding in the brain (aspirin can worsen bleeding).
THE DOWNSIDE OF ASPIRIN
About 50,000 Americans die every year from GI bleeding caused in part by aspirin or other NSAIDs. High doses are more likely to cause problems, but even low-dose aspirin can cause bleeding in some patients.
To protect yourself: Be sure to talk to your doctor before taking aspirin—at any dose—on a daily basis. Let him/her know if you develop stomach pain, cramping or other symptoms after taking it.
If you experience symptoms when taking aspirin, ask your doctor about trying the enteric-coated variety. It’s less likely to cause stomach upset, and it appears to thin the blood and reduce cancer risks as effectively as regular aspirin. However, enteric-coated aspirin can still cause bleeding in some people.
What most people don’t know: Aspirin-related damage to the stomach/GI tract may not cause symptoms. To detect problems: Ask your doctor to perform a fecal occult blood test about three months after you start aspirin therapy and annually thereafter.
If it’s more convenient, consider using an over-the-counter test (such as Hemoccult or ColoCARE) that detects small amounts of blood in the stool, which can indicate damage to the GI tract. Discuss this first with your physician.
Caution: Bleeding risk is increased if aspirin is combined with certain prescription medications such as warfarin (Coumadin), corticosteroids and some antidepressants, as well as some supplements, including ginkgo biloba, fish oil and willow bark. Taking another NSAID, such as ibuprofen, with aspirin also increases bleeding risk.
Using high doses of aspirin has been shown to cause ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and/or hearing loss in some people, so be sure to have your hearing checked if you notice any changes in your hearing while taking aspirin.

Michelle, the bottom line is it is dangerous to be a black male in America. White juries are ready and waiting to believe any lie law enforcement tells them about a black male.
My advice is for OTW to stop avoiding jury duty. Try to make every jury call with the express motive to get accepted on the jury. It is like registering to vote, if you don’t take your civil responsibility seriously.
When you get on the jury make it your business to ignore the judge telling you to give the cops the presumption of honesty, They will do everything in their power to convince the jury that a cop is exemplary.
When in fact he/she is merely a high school diploma with a license to kill OTWs. Fuck the judge and the robe he strolled in with. Find the blood innocent. Whites do it all the time and go home without a tinge of conscious.
I say until the bastards change, we do the same.

Taxes for the top 1% are at the lowest levels in fifty years.
For the Republican s to balk at raising the taxes on the top 1% by even a percentage point in unconscion able. It’s not going to hurt the wealthy. You could raise taxes on the top 1% five points and they’d still be wealthy.
Where’s the shared sacrifice? Put taxes back on the table and negotiate in good faith. And don’t give me that crap about taxing ‘job creators’. When they actually create jobs, here in the U.S., then they can get a tax break. Not before.

Little penis white men are so jealous of Obama. The news media owned by LPWs look for ever opportunity to get out a derogatory snipe at Obama. Like the lpw Halperin calling Obama a dick.
He apologizes for it and he gets his job back. Remember when the asian announcer was fired for dissing the first bush’s wife. Different stands for a white boy dissing a black president than an OTW woman dissing a white president’s wife.
Then we learn that this is a repeat offense from Halperin. He called Obama a pussy back in 2008. I guess like most LPWs they can’t seem to decide whether they like pussy or dick better. Perhaps that’s why many of them are closet homosexuals.
I see nothing wrong with being a homosexual, but I take issue with the hypocrisy of voting against and railing against homosexuality when you are out soliciting dick up your ass at every opportunity when you can do it in secret.
Now check this link out – /www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/01/halperin-a-repeat-offender_n_888458.html?ref=email_share
See that picture of Halperin. I don’t know about you, but I’d put a nice wager on the table that one day we will discover that this is a closet gay boy too. Just another tiny weeny looking for a big dick shoved up his ass.
—————————-
The white boys at my office are so intimidated by me. I’m a tall fine black woman who as a CPA doesn’t have to kiss their ass to keep her job.
I’m single with a nice social life. But I never bring any of my black male partners to their dinners. I bring gay white men who pretend to be straight.
Fuck’s them up! They got a white female who works at our firm to ask me why I bring white males to the company functions, but I refuse to date any of the eligible white men at our firm.
I told her that I didn’t believe any of them had in their pants what I needed to satisfy me.
That did it. Now they all steer clear of me. What you gonna do with the tiny dick wonders?

Michelle, it is my opinion they forced him to accept a manslaughter plea to cover their asses civilly.

Yo, Robert, I’m one of those black men who has made it a life’s mission to avoid jury duty. Yet, I complained mightily when my baby brother was sent up on trumped up charges.
He served 3 years before his conviction was tossed because the same cops that framed him were caught in a sting strong arming drug dealers for payoffs.
They didn’t do a lick of time. An all white jury let them go. I promise I will not only make my next summons but I will do all in my power to make the jury selection. And if the OTW is being charged with a crime agains a white boy, he walks.
They like to convict us with the comforting saying, “if the nigger didn’t do that, he did something else.”
I will be able to acquit with the saying, “pay back is a bitch.”

Obama had to fight almost the entire republican senate to get this done. Pfizer had their bought and paid for senate threatening to defund the FDA. But Obama stuck to his guns and wolla.
—————-
FDA Finally Listened and Removed Arsenic from Chickens
The U.S. FDA has announced that Pfizer will stop the sale of the animal drug 3-Nitro. The drug is used in chicken feed, but an agency analysis detected inorganic arsenic in the livers of chickens treated with the drug.
3-Nitro is used to help control coccidiosis, a parasitic disease that affects the intestinal tracts of animals, and also so that the chickens will gain more weight.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
“The agency said it recently conducted a study of 100 broiler chickens that detected inorganic arsenic at higher levels in the livers of chickens treated with 3-Nitro compared with untreated chickens … Pfizer said sale of 3-Nitro would be stopped by early July in order to allow animal producers to transition to other treatments.”
——————–
Yes, that was the compromise. The republicans would allow the FDA to beg Pfizer to stop selling the drug if it would allow Pfizer to continue to sell it until it had another Cash Cow to sell to the industry.
Don’t you just love the way the republicans compromise.

I thought a little humor was called for due to the antics of the 6 astronauts who peed their pants and ran to the escape ships when they witnessed a huge alien spacecraft attempting to hail them, hence the satirical title “Close Encounters of the 0 Kind.”
I believe the situation will present itself again one day and we will be brought into the “Club” of Space Traveling Beings. Until that day comes, we can only hope.
Aliens are from all over the Universe and in their natural bodies, probably do not resemble us. Why would they? Luckily there are “Suits” they can don that resemble different life forms they come across in their travels.
Should contact be made and then made public, we would probably see aliens who resemble us because they do not want us heading for the hills in fear.

Thanks for the cool compliment in your comment. All that and aliens checking in, plus a Blog Host who tells it like it is … all here on MM blog.

Is the Doctor Who Is Treating You a Novice?
Charles B. Inlander
People’s Medical Society
You may have heard that July is not the best time to be admitted to a hospital because that’s the month that new interns (doctors who have just graduated from medical school) join the staff.
Over the years, medical experts have pooh-poohed that admonition, insisting that the quality of medical care does not suffer when new interns arrive at hospitals. But that’s not the finding of a multi-institution study.
This research found that not only are first-year interns more prone to mistakes than more experienced physicians, but so are all residents (the general term for doctors, including interns, who have been assigned to a hospital for advanced training in a medical specialty following four years of medical school).
The errors that these doctors in specialty training programs make, including misdiagnoses, not ordering necessary medical tests, etc., stem not only from their lack of judgment and technical competence, but also from inadequate supervision by senior physicians, who should review the doctors’ diagnoses, test orders and treatment recommendations.
How to protect yourself or a loved one from such mistakes…
Know who is treating you. After one year of training at a hospital, an intern is generally referred to as a “resident” or “resident physician.”
Residencies can last from two to five or more years, depending on the specialty in which the doctor is training.
For example, family practice and internal medicine residencies average three years, while surgical residencies can last five or more years.
Self-defense: Always ask the doctor who is treating you in the hospital or emergency room whether he/she is a resident. If so, ask to see a senior physician (who always should be present or on call) to confirm the diagnosis or suggested treatment.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a specialist’s opinion. Several months ago, I accompanied a female family member who was experiencing unexpected vaginal bleeding to an emergency room.
A resident was the first to see her and, after examining her, he said he thought the problem was a minor irritation. He was about to discharge her with a recommendation to see her gynecologist later in the week when we asked to see the gynecologist on call.
This doctor arrived about a half hour later. He immediately ordered a biopsy and imaging scans and within four hours determined that she had a growth in her uterus. Within a day, it was determined to be cancerous and surgery was quickly scheduled.
Self-defense: Don’t be afraid to ask for a board-certified specialist to deal with your suspected or known problem. If such a specialist is not available, ask to see a hospitalist (a doctor who is specially trained to deal with hospital patients).
Be on the lookout for fatigue. Residents are often on call for 24 hours or more at a time, and many are dead tired from overwork and lack of sleep.
Self-defense: Whether you’re in the emergency room or an inpatient at a hospital, don’t hesitate to ask how long any resident who is treating you has been on call or on duty.
If it is more than 12 hours, ask for a second opinion on any medical advice this doctor gives you.

Michelle, I went back to check on what you were commenting about Alycedale.
Alycedale, I like what you had to say, in particular this quote, “Then they come home with all the sex partners that she has had festering in their dick. And they smile at you, tell you how much they love you and drop that history into your trusting pussy.”
Do you mind if I use it? It’s good, honey, real good! Mainly because it’s so true. My cousin’s husband, gave her crabs. Crabs can you believe it? I mean how dirty was the whore he was fucking.
By-the-way that is another word that should be used regardless of gender. He is a stone whore just like Tiger Woods.
That expression “tell me who you run with and I’ll tell you who you are” says it all for both Tiger Woods and Guy, both are whores.
He comes home grinning like the chest cat and making like he loves her so much in front of us. Then he goes and drops all that disease he got from whoring around without a rubber into my cousin. Sick mother fucker!
We are lacing everything he eats with calcium. Too much calcium will give a male prostate cancer. Oh, yeah, “what’s good for the goose…” baby!
We girls are taking care of business!
Looking for that reply, okay?
