Chikan = Pervert
Posted by Michelle Moquin on August 31st, 2011
Good morning!
Miyu: Okay…so I did a little reading on Chikan. I don’t think your actions are the least bit humorous – You may “grope for fun” with your friends, but it sounds like this “fad” is a bit more serious and not very amusing for the school girls who are really getting molested on trains.
Chikan Subway Gropers Beware!
Japan hosts a large population of over 125+ million citizens trapped within the confines of a 143,619 sq mi island, which for clarification is slightly smaller than the US state of California (163,707). Suffice it to say, Japan is an extremely overcrowded nation—making it an ideal spot for perverts that like to grope innocent women.
In Japan, a man who commits such an act is known as a chikan. And it just happens that the overcrowded subway cars of Japan’s capital city Tokyo are the chikan’s favorite spot to practice their iniquitous behavior. In fact, chikans sometimes even group together for a mass grope, wherein one man holds the victim in place while the others take turns violating her body.
Added to that, a 2001 reported cited by Wikipedia claims that more than 70% of Tokyo highschool girls have been groped by a chikan at least once while riding the subway.

Japan Railways, the largest subway operator in Japan, finally struck back earlier this year by creating “females only” cars for the Chuo Line (Japan’s busiest line) that passes through Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station—which itself is the world’s busiest train station. Unfortunately, getting a ticket is quite difficult; plus those fortunate enough to get in can expect to be “crammed like sardines.”

Fast-forward to April and we start to see some real action. Between April 15 and 21, over 120 police officers from Japan’s National Police Agency (NPA) congregated in metropolitan Tokyo for a mass takedown of gropers, aka the chikan. The operation netted 77 suspects, 49 of who were arrested on the spot, and six who were busted on the previously mentioned Chuo Line.

In addition, another popular rail operator, East Japan Railway Co., jumped on the bandwagon by installingcameras in each of its subway cars. The effort resulted in a 50% decrease of molestation reports. And according to the Daily Yomiuri, JR East intends to follow suit and “install cameras in all 30 trains on the line from June.”
It has taken years to occur, but it looks like Japan is finally taking a stand against the chikan. So for any chikan subway gropers out there, beware lest you find yourself groped as the government lays its firm grip on YOUR BODY!
Miyu: You’re taking something that is very serious and making a a joke out of it, at the expense of women. Not a nice thing to do. It is reported that at least two-thirds of women have experienced this. I wouldn’t call this a “fad’ but a huge problem. Calling it a “fad” diminishes it and this is a sick and serious thing that is happening. Once again women’s safety and the concern for women is being made into a joke and not taken very seriously when groups such as you and your friends and “doing it for fun”. Next thing you know it won’t just be “groping”, it will be “rape”. Once something becomes acceptable, the next step is not far behind. This behavior is sickening. I HOPE that you’ll rethink your actions and instead of adding to the problem you’ll start respecting and protecting women and girls and do something. Why not be heros and start a group that finds and condemns the perps?
************
Howie: And now some people are saying that Obama was talking fearful because it turns out that Hurricane Irene wasn’t as bad as they expected in some part of the US. Obama tells it like it is. He erred in the favor of the people that were going to be affected, because it is their lives that are at stake. Whereas the republicans only care about the dollar. They say there is not enough money to help with the damages from Irene, FEMA only has 800 million, yet 900 million is spent on Afghanistan every week. And if Obama didn’t suggest enough that people prepare for the worst and the worst happened, we’d be hearing how he should’ve done more.
The “republikkans” don’t care what Obama does, they just want him out at whatever expense. FOX won’t admit it, but it’s all over MSNBC. I heard on the news last night an example of just how the “republikkans” can’t ever give kudos to Obama. They said that even if a child was drowning and Obama went in and saved the child, the “republikkans” would say that Obama didn’t know how to swim. Kind of sums it all up doesn’t it?
In my opinion, let the rest of the country see just how much the republicans care little about the people and more about stuffing their already overstuffed pockets. The more they show their true colors, the more (I am crossing my fingers) people will see them for how they truly are, and vote differently in 2012. But I don’t know…
ZL: It has been quite the year for drama for you hasn’t it? I HOPE for your sake, this is the last of it. There are some crazies out there ( Japan seems to be full of them) - please be careful. On the up side, happy that you enjoyed yourself on the east coast, and life is fantastic…and it seems a little more zen.
Bob: Thanks for coming back! I have missed your posts. I HOPE that you are recovering quickly from your surgery, and all is well in your life.
Doug: Touché!
I think that is a good way to end this write today. Peace out.

HIGH-FAT DIET HELPS KIDNEYS
Not only is diabetes a difficult disease in and of itself, but it also brings some terrible complications, some of which are life-threatening — including kidney damage, long thought to be irreversible.
But maybe it’s not… I just read a fascinating new study showing that there is a way to reverse kidney damage from diabetes (type 1 and type 2), and believe it or not, the key is eating a high-fat diet!
IS THIS FOR REAL?
It’s not quite as simple as dining regularly on marbled steaks and rich ice cream, however. This research focused on what’s called a ketogenic diet, a type of diet that has been used for decades to control seizures in children with severe epilepsy.
It’s a rigid eating plan in which people typically eat about four times as much fat (described in detail later) as carbohydrates and protein, for a diet that is 75% to 80% fat.
Charles V. Mobbs, PhD, professor of neuroscience, geriatrics and palliative medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, told me that this study is the first one ever to suggest that dietary intervention can turn around kidney damage and possibly other diabetes-related complications as well.
At Mount Sinai, Dr. Mobbs and his team examined the effects of a ketogenic diet in mice bred to have diabetes.
They allowed the diabetic mice to develop kidney failure and put half on the diet (in this case 87% fat, 8% protein, 5% carbohydrates) and half on a high-carbohydrate control diet of standard mouse chow (11% fat, 23% protein, 64% carbohydrates).
After eight weeks, kidney failure was reversed — meaning that urine analysis showed normal, healthy levels of albumin and creatinine — in mice on the ketogenic diet. The mice on the control diet died.
TRICKING THE BODY
Here’s how the ketogenic diet works: Similar to the low-carb, high-fat Atkins diet, it essentially tricks the body into believing that it is in starvation mode, a condition that produces lowered blood glucose levels and higher blood fat levels.
These cues trigger the body to manufacture molecules called ketones — an indication that the body is using fat to provide fuel for energy to the cells. (Normally, the body uses glucose for fuel.)
People with diabetes have elevated blood sugar (as you know), causing excess glucose metabolism — this is what causes diabetes-related kidney failure, Dr. Mobbs explained.
But once blood glucose is relatively low and ketones are high (providing an alternative source of energy), the kidneys can take a rest from glucose metabolism — and thereby regenerate themselves.
These findings were published in the April 20, 2011 issue of PLoS ONE.
If this process is found to work in humans — and Dr. Mobbs told me he believes it probably will — using a ketogenic diet would be a dramatic improvement over dialysis or a kidney transplant, which are at present, the only ways to treat kidney failure.
IT WORKS FAST
The problem, however, is that the ketogenic diet is so strict and extreme in its requirements (for instance, even toothpaste is restricted in case it has sugar in it) that people find it hard to follow for any length of time.
To illustrate: Children put on this diet to control seizures are hospitalized and begin with a 24-hour water fast.
Their diet is gradually modified, eventually comprising 75 to 100 calories per 2.2 pounds of body weight with a ratio of three or four times as much fat as carbohydrate and protein — emphasizing lots of butter, heavy whipping cream, mayonnaise and oils.
The children are closely monitored for adverse reactions — since this is a high-calorie diet, their calorie intake is also watched to be sure that they don’t gain weight — and if all goes well, they are sent home to continue the diet for several months.
So it’s logical that the next question would be how long does a person have to follow this eating plan for it to work — forever? The answer is, probably not.
Dr. Mobbs told me that he believes that following a ketogenic diet for a short period of time — perhaps only a month — may be enough to “reset” the kidneys to begin functioning normally.
But this is only a guess, he said, noting that he and his team are conducting further mouse trials to determine exactly how many weeks or months are needed to reverse kidney damage.
The research team is also organizing trials in humans, and Dr. Mobbs sees great potential for additional future uses of the ketogenic diet.
In years to come, we may see it prescribed to treat a variety of both diabetes-related and nondiabetes-related complications — for instance, age-related kidney failure not caused by diabetes.
No question, this is compelling stuff, and I promise that you’ll be hearing more about it in Daily Health News — but in the meantime, Dr. Mobbs asked me to emphasize that the ketogenic diet is a serious medical intervention that should be attempted only under a doctor’s supervision.
Do not try it on your own.

Michelle,
Thanks for your very kind thoughts. I never missed one of your blogs. When I woke up from my surgery the second thing I asked for was my computer. The first was my wife(I had to know if she was still willing to put up with troublesome and Sick man).

Dear MoveOn member,
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is pushing a settlement with the big banks and Wall Street firms that caused the mortgage crisis—letting them get away with a slap on the wrist.
1. Wall Street bankers have not faced any serious punishment for the widespread fraud that crashed our whole economy—pushing bad loans, lying to investors, forging foreclosure documents—and banks are making profits again while homeowners continue to suffer.
2. Unbelievably, Geithner wants state attorneys general to agree to a sweetheart deal where these banks would pay only $20 billion—a fraction of what they could owe if fully prosecuted—and would get immunity from investigation and prosecution of the criminal greed, negligence, and fraud that caused this crisis.
This would eliminate any leverage regulators have to pressure banks to help out the homeowners they’ve hurt.
3. This settlement is only possible because it’s flying under the radar. So we’re joining with Rebuild the Dream to send a strong message.
If we can shame Geithner and the Obama administration with a massive public petition, we can stop Wall Street from getting a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Tell Treasury Secretary Geithner, “No more sweetheart deals for Wall Street. Let states investigate and prosecute the crimes that crashed our economy.”
By pushing bad loans and peddling risky mortgage-backed securities as safe investments, these banks cost the world economy $7.7 trillion.
Their widespread fraud and corruption also cost millions of hardworking Americans their jobs, their homes, and their shot at the American Dream.
And instead of making them pay the price for their actions, we handed Wall Street nearly $2 trillion in loans to get back on their feet, while every day Americans are still struggling to make ends meet.
4. Thankfully, some state attorneys general are standing up to Geithner and Wall Street.
They refuse to settle with the banks until a full and real investigation exposes the role these banks and their executives played in the crash of our housing market and economy.
Eric Schneiderman and Beau Biden, the attorneys general of New York and Delaware, are holding strong despite enormous pressure from the administration to accept the deal.
Schneiderman’s insistence that these crimes be investigated and prosecuted has now gotten him kicked off the settlement committee.
5. Owning a home is part of the American Dream, and justice for homeowners is part of the American Dream movement.
We have to stand behind Schneiderman, Biden, and other state attorneys general, and not let Geithner and a yes-man settlement committee brush banks’ criminal behavior under the rug.
Tell Treasury Secretary Geithner, “No more sweetheart deals for Wall Street. Let states investigate and prosecute the crimes that crashed our economy.”
Thanks for all you do.

Howie:
I read this on Huff – “North Carolina police say a mother accused of violently killing her two young daughters with a hatchet is claiming that a “ghost” committed a double-murder.
Naiyana Gauri Patel was hospitalized on Saturday with self-inflicted injuries after attempting to take her own life with the same weapon she allegedly used to kill her daughters, 4-year-old Piya and 7-year-old Jiya, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported.
Laji Patel, Naiyana’s husband, returned to the family’s East Asheville home at approximately 10:00 am Saturday to discover his injured wife and daughters. Police said Naiyana went into her brutal assault shortly after Laji left for work that day.
Sitting in her hospital bed, Naiyana Patel, 33, told police Saturday that “the ghost killed her children,” according to an officer’s statement obtained by the Asheville Citizen-Times. The newspaper added that the mother resisted treatment and wished not to live.
Police are investigating the effects that Naiyana’s depression medication, prescribed to her after an incomplete pregnancy, may have had on her behavior, according to local NBC affiliant WYFF.
Naiyana Patel is charged with two counts of first degree murder.”

A first-grade teacher was having difficulty teaching one little boy to read numbers. At last, in desperation, she asked the child’s father to come to he school.
She wanted to demonstrate to him that his son suffered under a sort of invincible ignorance when it came to identifying numbers.
The father, of course, refused to believe such a libel. He walked up to the blackboard, took a piece of chalk, and wrote a large 3.
“What’s that?” he said to his boy.
“Three?”
He erased the 3 and wrote a big 5.
“What’s that?” he asked.
“Five.”
He smirked in the direction of the teacher, erased the 5 and mad made an 8.
“What’s that?” he demanded.
“Pretzel,” said his son.

Praise the “Burqa” as a truly great symbol of female liberation.
Say you’ve always respected the notion that it’s a woman’s inalienable right to go out in public dressed like a tent.
===========REBUTTAL==========
Again this shows how insensitive and downright cruel the men of the right can be to the plight of women.
However let’s not loose sight of the women in this party who are willing to follow the crude humor their men use when it comes to disparaging the sufferings women endure at the hands of men.
I am from the Middle East. But I am a voting American citizen. I will not vote for a party that considers this a source for a joke.

Wafa, the right will use every opportunity to deceive to get followers. If it means distorting men forcing women to wear burqas or helpful programs, it matters not to them.
They hire slick writers and manipulators of issues to present them in negative light if they are sponsored by dems.
Take this law which encourages an alcoholic(I confess I am a recovering alcoholic) to get help. The hypocrites pretends it coddles drunks.
If they had their way they would rather see a drunken 18 wheeler heading towards you on a highway rather than a person who used the opportunity presented by this program to get help without fear of losing his job.
Audrey Hudson works for the republican party to fine laws she can twist to convince the listener that is so flawed as to be ridiculous.
Listen to this bought and paid for hack.
=========================
Honestly, I thought about a lede for this story for about five minutes, but I just can’t improve on this press release from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC):
“Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., a trucking company with a service center in Fort Smith, Ark., violated federal law by discriminating against at least one truck driver because of self-reported alcohol abuse, the EEOC charged in a lawsuit.
“The company should have met its legal obligation to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) while assuring safety, rather than permanently sidelining self-reporting drivers, the EEOC contended.”
So let me break it down for you: while most folks think of the disabled as someone like a war veteran who is confined to a wheelchair because they sacrificed one or more limbs for their country, it also includes drunken yahoos careening down the interstate in an 18-wheeler.
That’s right, alcoholism is a recognized disability under the ADA and disability discrimination is against the law.
“The ADA mandates that persons with disabilities have an equal opportunity to achieve in the workplace. Old Dominion’s policy and practice of never returning an employee who self-reports an alcohol problem to a driving position violates that law,” said Katharine Kores, director of the EEOC’s Memphis district office.
“While the EEOC agrees that an employer’s concern regarding safety on our highways is a legitimate issue, an employer can both ensure safety and comply with the ADA,” Kores said.
The suit seeks monetary relief, reinstatement to a driving position, back pay, compensatory and punitive damages, compensation for lost benefits, and an injunction against future discrimination. — Audrey Hudson
=======================
It just shows that for a few dollars some people will say anything.
It’s programs like EEOC and the ADA have with AA that enables people like me to believe that we can seek help without risking losing the means of supporting our families and ourselves.

My friend,
It’s very early in the morning. Unable to sleep I have decided to share my thoughts with you.
I realize my life is ready for a change. Two of my kids are off in this world building their own future. Two remain home.
This year I have decided to put Nitasha and brendon in an online school. This gives me the ability to travel. That my sole intention.
I am in a rut. And find I am not living or enjoying my life. I need to reinvent my future. I need to be a better mom. I need to become financially independent.
So where do I go. What do I do. How do I get there.
I first have to organize my surroundings. Minimize my possessions. Expand my visions.
This is something I can do. Small steps, leading to large investments.
My focus has been on surviving. Greatful for the success of literally producing a meal maybe two in a day.
The struggle of life brought my focus on a minute by minute existence. Now I must expand my vision. Plan further into the day, month, year.
I realize it is time to accomplish this task. I also know in each pursuit I must be prepared to help and care for the kids. All of the kids.
My greatest disappointment has been not having the ability to help the girls when they are in need.
I am over this mental breakdown I once had. It has been 8 years. A long road. Though still shaky and a bit frightened, I will grab the reigns and proceed forward.
So my friend, wish me well. Guide me gently. Support my moves. Help my soul.
I don’t know where this will lead. When one is climbing back up the latter it can only go well.
Thanks for your ear.

Michelle, this is pretty much the plight of asian women in any country with mass transportation.
Asian men are so degenerate. They subject their own female relatives and friends to this degradation so that they can enjoy the sick pleasure of molesting when they are on public transportation conveyances.

HI Misch, yes, I’ve been reflecting on the last year and yep, it’s been a dramatic one and my role has been to just keep on keeping on and not allow any one issue of it throw me, though I’ll admit the texts/email content threw me. I’m glad I found out and not sure if I’m in the clear yet but I know exactly how to play with that now…write a text that’s meaningless but sounds juicy and see what happens…though I’d rather let sleeping dogs lie. If any of it becomes unmanageable I’ll take care of it but I’d rather just…watch and learn…people show so much of their true nature when you do that, and it’s the zen thing to do : )
Bob, so glad you’re back and feeling better. I thought you’d just run out of jokes and took a hiatus to dig some up.
Cynthia, sounds like you’ve had quite the life journey…I am also turning minimalist, just in case I take myself up on that flight to Bali where I will blog happily ever after (or maybe I’m romanticizing it), either way, I’m travelin’ light…good for you, it sounds like your taking care of life business, keep checking in with your heart though, that life/heart/psychic energy needs to be and stay congruent or it all goes to hell in a handbasket…

Since Anonz gave his care of us to the UN, the UN does nothing about his attacks. He is bombing almost daily. My entire village and many thousands of men, women and children in the area have been forced to get out so he can bring in the chinese and arabs.
You are our one big hope. The media has ignored us and the UN has put most of their efforts in keeping the bombings and killings by al-Bashir out of the news.
We know that certain UN officials are taking huge bribes to look the other way. I think Anonz was deceived into believing that he was doing what was best for us. But we need him back.

Zen Lill, I read your story and many are the same. It seems that the phone companies in order to track your buying potential and to market personal data about its users have installed secret tracking devices on their phones.
Here Miicrosoft is being sued.
By Dan Levine
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Microsoft allegedly tracks the location of its mobile customers even after users request that tracking software be turned off, according to a new lawsuit.
The proposed class action, filed in a Seattle federal court on Wednesday, says Microsoft intentionally designed camera software on the Windows Phone 7 operating system to ignore customer requests that they not be tracked.
A Microsoft representative could not immediately be reached for comment.
The lawsuit comes after concerns surfaced earlier this year that Apple’s iPhones collected location data and stored it for up to a year, even when location software was supposedly turned off. Apple issued a patch to fix the problem.
However, the revelation prompted renewed scrutiny of the nexus between location and privacy. At a hearing in May, U.S. lawmakers accused the tech industry of exploiting location data for marketing purposes — a potentially multibillion-dollar industry — without getting proper consent from millions of Americans.
The lawsuit against Microsoft cites a letter the company sent to Congress, in which Microsoft said it only collects geolocation data with the express consent of the user.
“Microsoft’s representations to Congress were false,” the lawsuit says.
The litigation, brought on behalf of a Windows Phone 7 user, claims Microsoft transmits data — including approximate latitude and longitude coordinates of the user’s device — while the camera application is activated. It seeks an injunction and punitive damages, among other remedies.
The case in U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington is Rebecca Cousineau, individually on her own behalf and on behalf of all others similarly situated v. Microsoft Corp., 11-cv-1438.
