Good morning!

A big congratulations goes to this girl, Jennifer Granholm, former Governor of Michigan. About a week or so ago Current TV announced that they were giving Granholm her own show, following Keith Olbermann’s “Countdown”.  The title of her show?  “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm.” , geared toward “political junkies…and anyone who cares about the future of our country.” I think that’s me, (although I prefer “animal” to ‘junkie”) and quite a few of you out there too, if I’m not mistaken. :)

Jennifer Granholm Gets Current TV Show

Jennifer Granholm

Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm is getting her own show on Current TV.

The network announced the show on Wednesday. It will be called “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm.” Granholm’s new show will premiere in January and focus on Election 2012 coverage. It will air at 9 PM, directly following Keith Olbermann’s “Countdown.”

Granholm’s addition to the Current TV lineup marks the next step the network is taking to rebrand its programming. Olbermann has made no secret of his desire to launch a show after his. With the addition of Granholm to the lineup, Current now has three straight hours of news programming in the evenings. Besides Olbermann, Cenk Uygur is due to launch a 7 PM show on the network.

According to Current TV, Granholm’s show “will feature in-studio commentary by political insiders, campaign veterans, opinion leaders and newsmakers whose unique perspective will inform and inspire.”

Granholm was the first woman ever elected to be Michigan’s governor. She served from 2003 to 2011. In a statement, Granholm said her new show will be for “political junkies…and anyone who cares about the future of our country.”

UPDATE, 12:45 PM from Deadline.com: Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will anchor The War Room from San Francisco so she and her husband can continue with their temporary appointments teaching at the University of California at Berkeley. She’ll also continue to appear on Meet The Press. Granholm says her show will focus primarily on politics and public policy with a special focus on “solutions to the most pressing problems out there.” But she hopes to leven the mix by regularly featuring contributions from satirist Brett Erlich as well as viewer-generated content such as videos from the campaign trail. Granholm describes herself as being “on the left end of the spectrum” but with views that were shaped by her experience as “a pragmatic governor.” Current co-founder Al Gore says that he’ll appear from time to time on the network’s shows, including Granholm’s — and may participate in coverage of election news events. Although Granholm has no experience as a talk show host, the former vice president says he’s confident that she’ll be a fast learner: “If she had not been born in Canada, she’d be a leading candidate for president,” he says.

Here’s Current’s release:

San Francisco, CA, October 12, 2011–Current TV will launch THE WAR ROOM WITH JENNIFER GRANHOLM, hosted by the former two-term Michigan Governor. The announcement was made today by Al Gore, Chairman and co-founder, Current TV; Joel Hyatt, CEO and co- founder, Current TV; and David Bohrman, President of Current TV. Produced live in San Francisco at Current TV’s headquarters, the weeknight program is the most recent addition to the progressive news network’s primetime lineup. Granholm, an outspoken and passionate political leader, was the first woman to hold the office of Governor in the state of Michigan.

From the caucuses to the campaign trails to Capitol Hill, the hour-long program will shed light on the news of the day and will feature in-studio commentary by political insiders, campaign veterans, opinion leaders and newsmakers whose unique perspective will both inform and inspire. Granholm, a regular contributor to NBC’s “Meet the Press,” recently co-authored a new book, A Governor’s Story: The Fight for Jobs and America’s Economic Future, with her husband and leadership consultant, Daniel G. Mulhern. The book explores how Michigan pioneered its way out of an economic storm—and offers proven advice for a nation desperate to create jobs. In addition, Granholm is a distinguished practitioner of law and public policy at the University of California, Berkeley. She will continue teaching interdisciplinary courses on energy, leadership, state budgets and the economy at the UC Berkeley School of Law and the Goldman School of Public Policy.

THE WAR ROOM WITH JENNIFER GRANHOLM (www.current.com/thewarroom) will cap off a nightly roster of thought-provoking content beginning at 7:00 pm ET/PT with Cenk Uygur’s THE YOUNG TURKS (launching November 2011) to be followed at 8:00 pm ET/PT by COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN.

Current TV co-founder and Chairman Al Gore said: “THE WAR ROOM WITH JENNIFER GRANHOLM is at the core of Current TV’s strategy to be a trusted resource for intelligent and compelling commentary during what is sure to be a critically important election year with many complicated and emotional issues.“ He added: “Jennifer Granholm is a supremely talented and dedicated public servant whose deep understanding of the issues makes her one of the most relevant voices in politics today. She would be an asset to any news organization, and I am delighted that she has chosen Current TV as her new home. I have no doubt that her ability to illuminate and provide context to the issues of the 2012 election will prove to be of inestimable value to Current’s audience as well as to the public policy discussion surrounding the election.”

Joel Hyatt, Current TV’s co-founder and CEO, added: “Jennifer is a proven leader in understanding and articulating the concerns of middle-income families, of working Americans, of those struggling to cope with these difficult economic times. Her authenticity, compassion and intelligence define Jennifer Granholm. We are very pleased to bring someone of Governor Granholm’s stature and experience to Current TV. We are thrilled that she will use THE WAR ROOM as a platform to frame the issues and the policy prescriptions during the election year of 2012.”

David Bohrman, President of Current TV, said: “As we rev up and get to the starting line of the 2012 election year, it was important to have someone like Governor Granholm at the helm of THE WAR ROOM. Her knowledge of the political landscape truly sets her apart from the rest of the pack. The Governor will help viewers navigate through the many topics dominating the national conversation and will bring her distinctive point of view to every issue we address. We are delighted to have her playing this important role on our team.”

Ms. Granholm said: “THE WAR ROOM will be a nightly show for political junkies like me and anyone who cares about the future of our country, focusing on the 2012 election from all angles. As a former governor, I want to take the viewers backstage to the great American drama that is democracy. The show will be dynamic, fun and informative. We will actively engage viewers with a blend of smart analysis and relevant commentary from guests on the cutting edge of politics, business and entertainment. Democrats will love it. The far right will hate it. Those in the middle will appreciate it. I can’t wait to get started.” She added: “And, it is a privilege to be part of a team of outstanding journalists, led by Keith Olbermann, along with dynamic progressives like Cenk Uygur and The Young Turks, whose integrity and commitment to excellence are unwavering.”

In addition to its emphasis on campaign updates and political headlines, THE WAR ROOM WITH JENNIFER GRANHOLM will introduce Current TV viewers to the New Faces of 2012—the up and comers who might not be immediately familiar but will most certainly be part of the changing face of politics in the year ahead.

And, tapping into Granholm’s personal passion to improve the lives of working Americans, THE WAR ROOM will put the spotlight on progressive heroes–individuals whose decisions and actions have made a positive difference, including those in the business community whose leadership has supported their employees and in turn, the U.S. economy. THE WAR ROOM will also feature regular field reports from the voters’ perspective, amplifying the voices of everyday Americans. Other regular segments include: By The Numbers: A daily analysis of polls in key contests and key states; Inside Out: A conversation with one or more of the pros that looks at the day’s events, and projects what will happen next; and Campaign InfoMania: Satirist Brett Erlich’s daily feature on the highlights and lowlights from the campaign trail.

And, in a nod to the program’s home base of San Francisco, THE WAR ROOM’s regular contributors will include some of Silicon Valley’s brightest innovators.

Pick a fight with a liberal on:
    IQ.

According to some dumbass survey, the mean IQ of adolescents who identify themselves as “very liberal” is 106, but the mean IQ of adolescents who identify as “very conservative” is 95.

Yeah, and we know the real reason why that is: most of those “very liberal” adolescents are I in fact ultra-smart conservative kids who know that when you’re that age the best way to get all the hottest chicks is to pretend you’re some kind of tree-embracing, world-saving bunny-hugger.

  3. Connie Says:

So all 47 Republican Senators voted against Obama’s job’s bill. I guess that says what they think about jobs for the many versus jobs for the few of them.

Too bad they are right. Their followers will continue to vote for them because they need to get the black man out of the White House. The same black man that got our foreign policy they claim to be so concerned about right for a change.

Racism practiced by some of my race makes me ashamed to be white, sometimes.

  4. TAO Says:

    We are in 1890:

The murder of New Orleans’ Police Chief, David Hennessy, has uncovered an immigrant underworld. Mr. Hennessy was investigating the criminal activities of two Sicilian immigrant families.

Both belonged to the historic secret society “the Mafia”, murderous extortionists exerting an evil stranglehold over Sicily.

Mr. Hennessy discovered that the Provenzanos’ and Matrangas’ extortion rackets control the New Orleans waterfront, and they were fighting each other for domination.

He announced that he would produce evidence of this “Mafia” activity at the trial of two Provenzanos who murdered a Matranga.

On October 15, Mr. Hennessy was shot down on the street. Sicilians are used to murdering their own policemen and judges with impunity, and imagine they can do the same in America.

They are wrong. Nineteen “mafiosi” have been rounded up, and 60 witnesses will testify against them.

With luck, Mr. Hennessy’s tragic death will keep this vile corruption out of America.

Michelle, I couldn’t find my favorite blog yesterday. I received a note from a friend and a request that I post her daughter’s horror story on your blog.

Why she didn’t feel that she could post it on her own, is her secret, but here it is.
    ===============

    THE NOVEMBER NIGHT

It was a dark, cloudy November night, when I Daisy Dinkle appeared on the scene. I had been over my mom’s barn to pitch hay, when all of a sudden a figure appeared.

This frighten me to know end. For I had know idea as to what this man wanted from me. Wheather to murder or to rob me of my money.

All I heard as I walked down the cobblestone street was echoing footsteps. At first I thought they were my own, but I found out they wern’t.

It was a very dark night I couldn’t see in front of me. So I didn’t see this figure approach me with a lighted cigarette. He drew blood from my neck.

Later I learned that this someone was a firebug, not only did I have a sizzling neck from that terrifying burn, my neck was dripping with blood.

I couldn’t understand why, or with what reason this someone would want to burn me. I tried to reason out why this person would try a thing like that.

Still I made up my mind to find out more about this person no matter how I had to. This was just the beginning.

One day, while I was crossing the street a car drove in front of me. I began to tremble, thinking about my burn.

There were several more attempts. For instance, the time I was in the front room watching television, and I heard a noise.

I was scared stiff. I was afraid to move. I turned around and there was a man with a gash three inches long on his cheek to his chin.

He was horrid looking. One side of his face was puffed out, he had frog eyes rotten teeth, he was at least two hundred pounds.

You’ve never seen any one as ugly as he. His next attempt was to try me again. Well, this was he forth time.

I was in bed, when all of a sudden, I heard a noise. I got scared on account of the other times. On the other side of my door was that horrifying face It scared me so, I shook in my slippers.

I struck a chair under the door. While I was asleep, he finally opened the door he came toward’s me with a lighter. He burned my face very badly. I suffered pains of the burns, I was scared for life.

The man who ever he was or what ever he wanted, he must had gotten his wish. He was caught by one of the tenants while running in the hall, he had heard Daisy Dinkle scream and come rushing out. The police took care of him, buT good Ol’ Daisy was his first victim.

The police told me his name was George Brent. He loved the gleam of fire. When he was a shafer he stole matches. Also, wheN he was three he Burned his sister’s nose to a crisp.

    THE END

I like that, Mischa, animal instead of junkie, I don’t like using that negative reference either…

Howie, I stand corrected, any other info on the subject?

    Luv, Zen Lill

  8. HOWIE Says:

    Hi Zen Lill:

You do not need to stand corrected. It was as good a guess as any.

The truth is that there are MANY countries using thousands of Hackers to stop people from gaining incite about the unedited and uncensored news at such horrible places as MM Blog and others — where they may learn the truth about what is going on in the world.

Knowledge can be a strong weapon against tyranny and injustice. Blocking access to knowledge can temporarily prevent this knowledge.

  9. Al Says:

Hi Michelle, I catch Keith Olbermann on Current TV as often as I can. Thanks for the heads up on Jennifer Granholm following his show starting in January. From the video you provided, I am sure to be interested in what she has to say.

It would take a small and obscure station like Current TV to get some freedom of speech back on the airwaves (cable). A station not owned by or affiliated with corporate America to hear the truth and an opposing point of view to the mainstream networks, which are all owned by the same corporate entities, all of which are trying to form public opinion to fit their OWNERS agenda.

    Al

  10. Kevin Says:

One of the reasons I prefer your blog, over others Michelle is because it is so diverse. It so happens I have looking into old stories about the origins of the Mafia in America.

AH has added to my chest of lore. I include this “The Mafia” I found and am waiting to see the results. I think your blog will find it interesting in many ways. It did set a few firsts.

I want to add before Robert chimes in with the race card, I am very much aware that the Italians were immigrated to the South by the millions to increase the population of whites there because they were out numbered by their black slaves that were emancipated by Lincoln.

So, I will stipulate that it was the racist whites of the south that were directly responsible for the birth of the Mafia in America.

Here is the article I found.
    ————-
    THE MAFIA

This secret society has, within living memory, only existed for the purpose of brigandage and extortion. Yet it dates back centuries, and purports to be an alliance to protect native peasants against foreigh rulers.

Mafiosi call themselves “Men of Respect” (meaning “Pay our Demands or We’ll Maim You”) and protect temselves from reprisals by the code of omerta (Silence – or You’ll be Killed.)

The “Honourable society” are actually coarse and despicable ruffians.
    ——————–
Now can we get on with the history. Your turn AH.

    Kevin

  11. MoveOn.Org Says:

    Dear MoveOn member,
Today, President Obama formally announced the end of the war in Iraq, as the remaining 48,000 American troops in Iraq will be brought home by year’s end.1

After almost nine years, the loss of more than 4,400 American troops and countless Iraqi civilian lives, and a cost of $800 billion that was badly needed at home, a war that should have never begun is finally coming to an end.2

It’s bittersweet relief from an ongoing tragedy—and for MoveOn members who lost loved ones, a very personal tragedy.

While it’s long overdue, it’s important to remember that even up until today, conservatives and military advisers have been pressing to keep tens of thousands of troops in Iraq indefinitely.3

So there is no doubt that we would not be here without the dedicated work of millions of Americans nationwide who struggled tirelessly to bring this war to an end and our troops home.

From small vigils to massive marches, from phone calls to our leaders to letters to the media, you and many others helped make this day possible.

Yet, it’s also true that the struggle to bring our troops home continues, as long as tens of thousands of troops remain in Afghanistan.

The future of Iraq will now be left to the Iraqi people, and it’s long past time to leave the future of Afghanistan to its people as well.

And though the war is ending, tens of thousands of troops will continue to struggle with the physical and psychological wounds from their service in Iraq.

We encourage you to visit the Wounded Warrior Project to learn more and to donate to support those who served: http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

We can’t rest until all troops are safely out of harm’s way—and our veterans and families are given the support and care they deserve.

Thanks for all you did to fight for this day and for all you do to fight for a safer, more peaceful world.

–Justin, Carrie, Elena, Sarah, and the rest of the team

  12. From the Desk of Anonz Says:

If you think the financial debacle is big, wait until the American public gets their financial and health bill from the free for all, no regs attached, permission given to the oil industry to mine natural gas given to them by the republicans.

When the public learns that the huge figures they were given about the amounts of natural gas available for exploration was inflated by 80% and the lies they were told about its cleanliness.

It has been learned that the industry has lied about the by product of natural gas production. That would be the release of methane gas. That stuff is far more lethal to the environment and human health than CO2.

The bought and paid for five on the Supreme Court have made it so lucrative for the politicians to get unlimited corporate support they are soliciting us for ways to sell out.

It is so much easier not to bribe federal regulators. Although we benefit from the lax even potential lethal deregulation of the oil industry, we can see how this ends up being our own worst enemy.

By the time the stupid investor who thinks he will get rich from his stock investments in the oil industry so he welcomes his republican government representatives deregulating the industry finds out that whatever he realizes in a few profits there will be eaten up by the cost of the ecological damage to the infrastructure and the increased health cost to every living being within the vicinity of the extraction.

Can greed really be so powerful that one sacrifices the health of his own and others for the enrichment? The proven answer is yes.

Once again we are being put in the position of not taking advantage of the stupidity and greed of those who would empower the wealthy to exploit everyone else so that they can possibly join the wealthy.

So when we pull into you neighborhoods with huge trucks tearing up your roads, polluting your lungs, and wrecking your local economy blame no one but yourselves.

You are forcing us to use you or others will profit from using you because that is the environment you have created with your support of the republican party.

  13. Cynthia Says:

Anonz, I am always delighted to hear from you. I pray for you safety every night. My father is one of those who back the republicans. He is always spouting one talking point or another given to him by one of those Human Events writers or Fox.

He thinks that we think he is a deep thinker because he can spout that inane garbage. But mother tells us to just shut up listen nod and take the money before he gives it to that woman hating party.

    So we do.

I was reading the “Times” when I stopped to check Michelle’s blog to see if it was up again when I spotted your post. Timely and pun definitely intended. Here’s what I was reading and it illustrates your point.
    =====================

    Among the revelations uncovered by The Times’ admirable reporting;

Sewage treatment plants in the Marcellus region have been accepting millions of gallons of natural gas industry wastewater that carry significant levels of radioactive elements and other pollutants that they are incapable of treating.

An EPA study published by The Times shows receiving rivers and streams into which these plants discharge are unable to consistently dilute this kind of highly toxic effluent.

Most of the state’s drinking water intakes, streams and rivers have not been tested for radioactivity for years — since long before the drilling boom began.

Industry is routinely making inflated claims about how much of its wastewater it is actually recycling.

EPA, caving to industry lobbyists and high level political interference reminiscent of the Bush/Cheney era, has narrowed the scope of its national study on hydrofracking despite vocal protests from agency scientists.

The EPA had, for example, planned to study in detail the effect on rivers of sending radioactive wastewater through sewage plants, but dropped these plans during the phase when White House-level review was conducted.

Similar studies in the past had been narrowed by industry pressure, leading to widespread exemptions for the oil and gas industry from environmental laws.

The Times revealed an ongoing and red hot debate within the EPA about whether the agency should force Pennsylvania to handle its drilling waste more carefully and strengthen that state’s notoriously lax regulations and anemic enforcement.

The Times investigation also explodes the industry’s decade old mantra that a “there is not a single documented case of drinking water being contaminated by fracking.” The Times investigation of EPA archives exposes this claim as demonstrably false.

  15. Health info Says:

    KUDZU ROOT TAMES ALCOHOL DRIVE

Way back in 1876, to combat soil erosion in the southeastern US, scientists here imported a Japanese climbing vine that would spread faster (one foot per day!) than anything we already had.

As many of us have seen firsthand all these years later, this may not have been a good plant to bring to our country…

in fact, kudzu is so aggressive and fast-growing that the US government declared it a “noxious weed” in 1997 because the unstoppable vine has been engulfing and destroying trees and other vegetation across swaths of the country. It has even been known to engulf houses!

But in matters of health, it turns out that kudzu may be a real boon. The latest discovery: It has a novel ability to help people who drink too much.

The idea that kudzu has health benefits isn’t new — practitioners of Eastern medicine have a wealth of uses for kudzu root powder, including as a tea to treat such conditions as tinnitus and vertigo, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

It’s true that when it comes to drinking too much alcohol, it’s best to “just say no” — but at Harvard’s McLean Hospital, researchers have been studying whether kudzu can help quell the urge in people more apt to say yes. They’ve now confirmed that it can.

    A PARTY FOR STUDY PARTICIPANTS

Study author David M. Penetar, PhD, in McLean’s Behavioral Psychopharmacology Research Laboratory, told me that 14 male and female volunteers in their 20s who, according to their own reports, regularly had three or four alcoholic drinks per day but had no family history of alcoholism were given either kudzu extract or a placebo for nine days.

At the end of the nine days, they were invited to sit in a laboratory setup “apartment” — with a sofa, TV and beer-stocked fridge — where they could hang out, watch television and drink as much as they wanted.

There was a specially designed table where they rested their beer mugs (between quaffs), equipped with a built-in scale that measured how much beer was swallowed each time a person picked up a mug to take a sip (or gulp, as the case may be).

Meanwhile researchers also took blood samples to measure each person’s chemical response to alcohol.

Interestingly, they found that the concentrations of blood alcohol climbed slightly faster in the group that had been taking kudzu, but their peak blood alcohol levels climbed no higher than peak levels in the placebo group when compared with those who had consumed an equal amount of alcohol. In other words, kudzu sped up but did not strengthen the alcohol’s effect.

Researchers believe this was because kudzu contains several isoflavones, in particular diadzin, diadzein and puerarin, which are known to decrease ability to absorb ethanol (alcohol).

Whatever the cause, it seemed that taking kudzu reduced the desire for alcohol, resulting in a significant decrease in how much the study participants actually drank, with the kudzu group averaging 1.8 beers per session while those in the placebo group drank on average 3.5 beers.

Dr. Penetar told me that taking kudzu did not get participants more drunk or less drunk — they know this because they measured how the same amount of alcohol impacted body stance and vigilance/reaction time.

He said that the kudzu-takers reported feeling the effects of the beer sooner than they would have without kudzu.

    DRINK TO THAT?

Based on the study findings, Dr. Penetar says that people who tend to drink too much may want to consider taking kudzu root in order to reduce their alcohol consumption.

Study volunteers took two 500-mg capsules with meals three times a day for a daily total of three grams per day.

Kudzu capsules are available in health-food stores, but none of the products currently on the market has an active ingredient level of the isolated target compounds of 25% — 19% puerarin, 4% diadzin, 2% diadzein — which is the formulation used in the study.

The McLean research team is working with a lab to formulate such a capsule and hopes to bring it to market in a year or so.

Dr. Penetar told me that researchers are currently trying to learn whether taking kudzu immediately before drinking will help curb the desire for alcohol, but he explained that people who suffer from alcoholism will need more than just an extract of kudzu.

“They need to go through normal medical detox, but after that, taking kudzu might help them if they have a relapse,” he said, adding that alcoholics would probably need to take kudzu every day to achieve the constant and protective level that would best serve them.

On the surface this seems like a harmless joke. But it is just another way to continue to perpetuate the lie that Obama is going to tax EVERYONE when the reality is he is just attempting to get those who make $1MILLION or more to pay their fair share.

So this kind of insidious lie works. The republicans who are BAPF by the wealthy know this so the use every subliminal trick to keep the average american thinking it is he/she who Obama is attempting to raise taxes on.

Guam loves you Obama. You ended Bush’s illegal and stupid war against Iraq.

All of America’s troops in Iraq will be home by the end of this year, marking the end of a long and unpopular war.

“Over the next two months, our troops in Iraq — tens of thousands of them — will pack up their gear and board convoys for the journey home,” President Barack Obama said Friday.

“Across America, our servicemen and women will be reunited with their families,” the president said.

The nearly nine-year war has cost the United States military more than 4,400 lives, and more than 32,000 have been wounded, according to The Associated Press. About 40,000 troops remain in Iraq, the AP reported.

Forty service members and civilians from Micronesia have died in support of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to Pacific Sunday News files. More than half were from the Guam National Guard.

“I am grateful for the efforts of our men and women in uniform who helped bring down a tyrant,” Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo said in a statement.

The U.S. led an invasion of Iraq in 2003 after reports — later discredited — that the country was developing weapons of mass destruction, the AP reported.

Longtime Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was ousted and captured that year, then executed in 2006, but the war continued.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost the United States more than $1.3 trillion, the AP reported.

The troop withdrawal is “welcome news,” said Maj. Gen. Benny Paulino, adjutant general of the Guam National Guard.

However, Paulino said, the end of Iraqi operations doesn’t affect the Guam Guard’s pending deployment to Afghanistan.

About 800 Guam Guardsmen are expected to deploy to Afghanistan in 2013.

    ‘Ready for transition’
Capt. Ken Ola, Guam National Guard spokesman, was stationed in Iraq with the Guam National Guard from 2005 to 2006.

“It’s good to hear that our brothers and sisters in arms are coming back,” he said.

During his stay, there was a pressing role for American forces, but maybe now the country can focus on its own political and military issues, Ola said.

The president said Iraqis are ready for the transition, USA TODAY reported. In 2005 and 2006, a time of heightened sectarian strife, there were more than 1,500 security incidents each week. Now there are about 100 security incidents a week.

  18. Human Events Says:

Vice President Joe Biden is the gift that keeps on giving to Republicans. He pumps out the final absurd reduction of Obama policy with a frequency that dismays conservatives who were really looking forward to performing that absurd reduction themselves. For several years, he’s delighted audiences by reading every third word in his talking-point memos, and blurting out hilariously inconvenient truths while holding forth in front of cameras.

Recently, he’s been pushing President Obama’s moribund “jobs” bill by warning that if the Administration which drove America to record heights of debt is not given more money to spend, a shortage of police and first responders will result, leading to higher crime rates. Biden trotted out this foolishness again at a University of Pennsylvania speech on Tuesday… and retooled it to the brutally stupid wish that opponents of Obama’s “jobs” bill could be raped, so they would understand the consequences of defying the President’s demands.

Responding to the criticism that Obama-style “stimulus” jobs tend to be temporary, Biden said “it’s not temporary when that 911 call comes in and a woman’s being raped, if a cop shows up in time to prevent the rape,” and wished his critics “had some notion of what it’s like to be on the other side of a gun or a 200-pound man standing over you telling you to submit.”

How about it, feminists and journalists? The Vice President of the United States, looking to work up public pressure on behalf of a bill that died in the chamber controlled by his own party, just told a crowd of college students that he wishes his opponents—many of whom are women—could find themselves underneath a 200-pound rapist, so they could appreciate the need for trillion dollar tax hikes. If Biden were a Republican, he’d be out of office by the end of the week.

It obviously makes a world of difference to the media that Biden has a (D) after his name. Let’s find out if that world of difference orbits anywhere within the solar system of intellectual honesty and common decency. It’s time to go, Joe.

  19. HOWIE Says:

This is a Huffington post article I read recently and posted for all to see. It is about how the Air Force of the United States and Canada have deleted rules to Pilots and Radar Operators who spot a UFO. The military deleted a passage about unidentified flying objects from a 2008 Air Force personnel manual just days after The Huffington Post asked Pentagon officials about the purpose of the UFO section.

Before the recent revisions, the document, Air Force Instruction 10-206, advised pilots, radar operators and other Air Force personnel on what to do when they encountered any unknown airborne objects. Now in the 2011 version, the reference to UFOs — which simply means “unidentified flying objects,” not necessarily spaceships with little green men — has been eliminated.

What makes this so intriguing is that the U.S. government officially stopped investigating UFOs in 1969 with the termination of the Air Force’s Project Blue Book.

The 22-year study, led by high-level military officials and academic experts, ruled that UFOs weren’t extraterrestrial visitors, nor were they technologically advanced aircraft, nor were they a threat to national security.

With that, the military essentially shut the book on flying saucer research, concluding that “nothing has occurred that would support a resumption of UFO investigation by the Air Force.”

“The reason why the military is claiming they don’t investigate UFOs is because they don’t want to respond to people like you,” former Air Force Captain Robert Salas told The Huffington Post.

“They don’t want to respond to reporters or to the public as to what the heck is going on, and it’s been going on for so long. They just don’t want to have to answer that question.”

Yet more than 40 years after the close of Project Blue Book, there were still written orders on what Air Force personnel should do in the event they spotted a flying vehicle that couldn’t be identified.

As recently as early September, Air Force members who came across anything they didn’t recognize were told to note “altitude, direction of travel, speed, description of flight path and maneuvers, what first called attention to the object, how long was the object visible and how did the object disappear?”

Eyes in the sky and on the ground were commanded to treat a UFO as they would if they had seen a missile, hostile aircraft or unidentified submarine.

All details were required to be included in a report to NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), which protects the airspace over the U.S. and Canada.

On Sept. 2, The Huffington Post made inquiries to the Air Force about the UFO directives. A spokesman said he’d arrange an interview with an appropriate officer. But before the interview was set up, the 111-page instruction manual was revised on Sept. 6, and the UFO instructions were deleted, as were other portions of the document, now shortened to 40 pages.

For several weeks, military officials failed to respond to HuffPost inquiries about the rewritten manual, which included changes to areas unrelated to UFOs.

Finally, on Oct. 5, after several follow-up calls, an Air Force major e-mailed a response, informing HuffPost that UFO reporting is not a duty of the armed forces branch. He denied any cover-up, and instead said it was a coincidence that the document was updated after this news organization asked for an explanation.

“UFO reporting is a NORAD requirement, but not a requirement for Air Force operational reports,” Air Force Maj. Chad Steffey told The Huffington Post in the e-mail.

“All Air Force Instructions are reviewed/revised on a regular basis (about every two to three years). For this revision, we merely deleted a procedure that did not apply to this AFI.

“For any other questions about requirements for UFO reporting, I’ll have to refer you to NORAD,” Chad Steffey wrote.

Unlike the Air Force, officials at NORAD acknowledge that looking into UFOs is part of their job description.
Of course, most UFOs are eventually explained as something far less extraordinary than little green — or grey — men.

“When I talk about UFOs, it is literally an unidentified flying object, not an extraterrestrial,” said John Cornelio, chief of media relations at NORAD headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. “There is a blip on the radar, and we don’t know what it is. And we’re responsible for identifying what that object is. We know it’s an aircraft of some sort, but we don’t know who it is, and so have to go up and identify it.”

But here’s the big question: Did the Air Force really stop investigating UFOs in 1969 as they have repeatedly claimed throughout the ensuing decades?

“Absolutely not! They have continued to look into UFO cases,” said Salas, co-author of “Faded Giant.” “In fact, there are NORAD records from 1975 of UFO sightings — and this was not any general aviation aircraft — objects seen over missile sites and other bases.

“They scrambled jets to intercept these UFOs, which clearly operated at speeds that the jets couldn’t keep up with, and they were sighted by a lot of people,” Salas told HuffPost.

Salas is just one of many former military officers who have come forward in recent years to disclose their involvement with a variety of UFO incidents that occurred over several U.S. nuclear weapons sites, sightings that had been kept secret for decades.

“As a matter of fact, there was that incident in Wyoming last year where 50 ICBM missiles went down and the base commanders instructed the troops not to talk to anybody about this UFO that was seen over the base,” said Salas.

It was a scenario too familiar to Salas, who in 1967 was monitoring a launch control center at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. When UFOs appeared over the base, Salas recalled, “all of a sudden, we started getting bells and whistles going off. As we looked at the display board in front of us, sure enough, the missiles began going into an unlaunchable, or no-go, mode. They couldn’t be launched.”

In the aftermath of that event, Salas was debriefed by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, or AFOSI.
“After we told them our recollection of the incident, the AFOSI captain wanted us to sign papers, saying we’d never talk about this and swear we wouldn’t even talk to our wives or any of the airmen on the base — nobody!”

HuffPost News first received the 2008 Air Force procedure document from John Greenewald, creator of The Black Vault, the largest private online archive — at 600,000 downloadable pages — of declassified documents on UFOs, government secrets, conspiracies, biological nuclear weapons and terrorist activities.

“When I first obtained AFI 10-206 in 2006, UFOs were in it, and were the same procedures as outlined in a previous Army-Navy-Air Force publication called JANAP-146, that was a joint U.S.-Canadian manual for reporting UFOs, that came after 1969,” Greenewald, author of “Beyond UFO Secrecy,” told HuffPost.
“They’ve had many opportunities to take [the UFO reference] off of this publication and now look at what happens,” said Greenewald. “All of a sudden, when a major news outlet like Huffington Post starts asking questions about why UFOs are still on the books — to have that media outlet not get a fast response, number one; and number two, the military completely re-writes the regulation, changes it and UFOs are nowhere to be found — that’s a fascinating coincidence.”

Using the Freedom of Information Act, Greenewald’s 15-year crusade to pry government documents loose has yielded UFO reports from many government agencies, like the CIA, Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of Defense and the National Security Agency, documents that detail UFO accounts beyond 1969 and into more recent times.

“You can find UFO documents that stretch all the way into 2008 on the shelves of quite a few agencies,” Greenewald pointed out. “The CIA and National Security Agency collected quite a bit of material after 1969. The UFO topic is of great importance that never went away.”

At NORAD, Cornelio explains that they can’t investigate every single UFO report that comes along.
“We have our specific role that we’re responsible for, and that is to monitor threats to our nation,” he said. “But at the end of the day, it’s not our job to identify every unidentified object that’s out there. I’m aware of the process by which the command center handles these things, and I don’t believe it’s something that’s releasable.”
Salas doesn’t completely agree with Cornelio about the overall urgency that some UFO reports pose.

“Are you telling me they don’t care about UFOs in general, whether they’re from another planet or not? They do care; they care about anything in our air space,” said Salas. “They can’t just say, ‘No, we don’t investigate UFOs.’ They can’t make a blanket statement like that because that’s their duty, their responsibility, to investigate UFOs.
“To me, they’re talking out of both sides of their mouth.”

So all 47 Republican senators voted against the jobs bill. They could not bring themselves to tax the super rich even 1/2 of 1% to help the middle class.

But since they were playing to their constituents, then that means there are a whole lot of stupid fools out there who believe that since they will soon join those ranks the 1/2 of 1% would be too much for them to bare.

When you think about having that kind of greed, then it is probably best that they will never be able to join those ranks.
