White House Window Hit By Bullet: Secret Service Says Ballistic Glass Stopped It

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service says a bullet hit an exterior window of the White House and was stopped by ballistic glass.

An additional round of ammunition was found on the White House exterior. The bullets were found Tuesday morning. A spokesman for the Secret Service, Edwin Donovan, declined to answer additional questions about the incident including the caliber bullets recovered or what room of the White House was behind the window that was hit, citing an ongoing criminal investigation.

The discovery follows reports of gunfire near the White House on Friday. Witnesses heard shots and saw two speeding vehicles in the area. An assault rifle was also recovered.

President Barack Obama, who was headed to a summit in Hawaii, was not at the home at the time of the shooting.

The Secret Service said it has not conclusively connected Friday’s incident with the bullets found at the White House. Previously, authorities had said the White House did not appear to have been targeted Friday night.

U.S. Park Police have an arrest warrant for Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, who is believed to be connected to the earlier incident. He is described as a 21-year-old Hispanic man, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 160 pounds, with a medium build, brown eyes and black hair.

He is believed to be living in the Washington area with ties to Idaho.

After the gunfire was reported, police said they found an abandoned car Friday night near the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge that crosses the Potomac River to Virginia.

U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser has said items found in the vehicle led investigators to Ortega. The suspect hasn’t been linked to any radical organizations but does have an arrest record in three states, Schlosser said Monday.

In 2010, there were a series of pre-dawn shootings at military buildings in the Washington area, including the Pentagon and the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Police charged a Marine Corps reservist with those shootings earlier this year. The suspect, Yonathan Melaku of Alexandria, Va., remains in custody.

Readers:  So much back and forth on this Penn State rape. I just have to give my two.  I’m with Sarah. It’s simple. There is no excuse for how McCleary reacted when he walked in to that shower scene and saw that young 10-year old boy getting raped. It’s not like he had to fear anything by going in and picking up the boy and leaving. They were both naked – no weapons to be afraid of  - and McCleary is a huge guy. So…why didn’t he? Why didn’t he just walk in, pick up the boy and leave? That simple action is stopping the rape. And…If he did that simple action, he would’ve have truly stopped the rape and we would all know who that victim was.

No matter what McCleary says, what was the excuse for him to leave the kid there? There is no excuse. Unless I hear McQueary say that he picked the kid up and took him out of the locker room, in my opinion he didn’t stop the rape. He may want to think that he did something. And he may want everyone to think he’s the big hero that he stopped it, so he can get some credit for it…and escape being considered an accomplice. Because in my opinion, anything less than rescuing that young boy, at that given moment by taking him out of the scene and away from Sandusky, is not stopping the rape, but acting as an accomplice. Period.

Think I’m too harsh on McCleary? I don’t think so. But blog me, call me out if you do.

Thoughts on this or anything else? The forum is now open. Blog me.

Peace out.

  1. Health info Says:

Watch Out for That Time Change

    Michael Terman, PhD
    New York State Psychiatric Institute

At 2:00 am on Sunday, November 6, 2011, the US officially switches from daylight saving time (DST) to standard time (ST) — you “fall back” one hour. On March 11, 2012, the US switches from ST to DST — you “spring forward” one hour.

Warning: These time changes can be dangerous to your health. Researchers looked at the rate of heart attacks around the time switches — comparing the seven days right after the switches with the seven days two weeks before and two weeks after the switches…

In spring there was a 5% to 10% increase in heart attacks during the three days after the switch to DST.

In fall there was a significant spike in heart attacks on the Monday after the switch to ST.

The researchers theorized that sleep disruption from switching the clock may hurt the heart by increasing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which speeds heart rate, and by increasing the level of cytokines, immune cells that spark inflammation and damage arteries.

Research also shows that the sleep-disturbing switches can cause other health-related problems, including insomnia, daytime fatigue, a decrease in daytime alertness and negative mood states, such as depression and anxiety.

We asked Michael Terman, PhD, one of the world’s leading experts in this field, how to protect your health…

    WHO IS MOST VULNERABLE?

Every person has an internal clock that matches wakefulness and sleepiness with the day-night cycle — a phenomenon called circadian rhythm.

The science of how circadian rhythm affects health is called chronobiology — and it has shown that each person has a genetically determined chronotype.

“Owls” are chronotypes that usually go to sleep very late and have difficulty waking up in the morning for a normal workday.

“Larks” feel sleepy at a so-called normal hour of the night (such as 10:00 pm) and wake up easily in the morning.

The vast majority of the population is somewhere in between an owl and a lark. But about 10% of the population are owls — and they have far more difficulty adjusting to time switches than larks.

Owls are more likely to suffer from switch-caused health problems in the days and even weeks afterward.

If you’re not sure whether you’re an owl or a lark — or somewhere in between — go to the Web site of the Center for Environmental Therapeutics, http://www.cet.org.

On the home page, click on “Therapeutic Resources & Tools,” then “Self-Assessment Tools” and then “Your Circadian Rhythm Type,” which will open the “Automated Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire.”

The 19 questions take about five to 10 minutes to answer, after which you will receive detailed feedback about your likely chronotype.

    PROTECT YOURSELF

If you’re an owl, there are many ways to modulate your internal clock so that you’re less vulnerable to health problems from the sudden time switches…

Gradually set the alarm later. For the fall switch from DST to ST, your goal is to allow your circadian clock to drift one hour later during the week or so after the switch.

If you typically wake up to an alarm clock at 7:00 am, set the alarm for 6:00 am ST on the Sunday morning of the switch, which is when you’ll be inclined to wake up anyway. Over the next six days, set your clock 10 minutes later each day until you arrive at 7:00 am ST.

Reverse this process in the spring, starting six days before the ST to DST switch. Set the alarm 10 minutes earlier each day so that you arrive smoothly at 7:00 am DST on Sunday morning.

Exercise daily. Daily aerobic exercise helps stabilize the circadian system, preventing an owl’s tendency to go to sleep later and later.

It will help manage both time switches. But avoid aerobic exercise in the hours right before sleep, which can cause insomnia.

To help with the spring transition: As soon as the sun starts to rise after 7:00 am, take a brisk 20-minute walk outside right after you wake up, to jump-start your day.

This is the best measure owls can take to prevent health problems caused by the March transition from ST to DST.

Eat regular meals. Owls rarely feel hungry when they first wake up, so they skip breakfast. They then eat a big meal around 1:00 pm and tend to eat again late at night.

Best: Eat breakfast within a half-hour of waking, eat lunch around noon and finish dinner before 8 pm. This helps normalize your circadian rhythm.

Take melatonin — the right way. Melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain, helps control wakefulness and sleepiness.

It’s usually not detectable in the blood at midday but begins to rise in the evening, about two to three hours before you feel sleepy.

In the general population, there is a six-hour spread between the average times that melatonin rises. If you’re an owl, you tend to have a late onset — in some cases, as late as 1:00 am, so you don’t feel sleepy until about 3:00 am.

To decrease vulnerability to the time shift, an owl needs to feel sleepy earlier and can do that by taking a melatonin supplement.

Most people who take melatonin mismanage it, taking it like a sleeping pill, 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime. But by that hour, the brain has already started to produce the hormone, and the additional supplement has little effect.

Better: Take a very small amount of melatonin — 0.25 milligrams (mg) — five hours before your desired bedtime, starting a week before the springtime switch to DST.

Your circadian clock will sense that nighttime has begun and will adjust itself toward earlier sleep onset. Move the melatonin earlier as your sleep adjusts earlier, then stop it when you reach your goal.

After taking melatonin, remain in dim, indoor light because bright, fluorescent light or outdoor light reverses the effect. Also, refrain from intense physical exercise.

Resource: Microtonin, a 0.5-mg melatonin supplement (which can be cut in half), is available from The Vitamin Shoppe (866-293-3367, http://www.vitaminshoppe.com, $9 for 60 capsules).

Use a “dawn simulator.” You can adjust your circadian rhythm using a sophisticated device that plugs into your light fixture and “simulates” the outdoor transition from a starlight level of light to a sunrise level of light.

The device allows you to gradually move “dawn” later in the day during the week or so after the “fall backward” switch to ST, and later in the day during the week or so before the switch to DST.

The subtly intensifying light passes through your eyelids, entraining your internal clock to the time you want to start your day — no matter what is happening outdoors.

Resource: You can order a Dawn Simulation System at http://www.cet.org. Cost: $115.

Personal interviewed Michael Terman, PhD, professor of clinical psychology at Columbia University, director of the Center for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms at New York–Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, research scientist at New York State Psychiatric Institute and president of the Center for Environmental Therapeutics (www.cet.org), all in New York City.

He is author or coauthor of more than 75 scientific papers appearing in leading medical journals.

  2. Doug The Main Dude Says:

The responses from yesterday show just how much society needs to invest themselves into cognitive thinking and ethics in society and human relations…

When someone is in college, as many responders who chimed in were, the general age is around 20 or so. Who can’t remember back 10 years to when one was a child and didn’t know shit, to then make such a statement that “maybe the kids liked it”. That is simply asinine and uneducated.

Another person chimed in and stated that the reason that McQueary didn’t take them to the police station was because he was not a cop, is again asinine and uneducated in a response.

If this is the kind of ethical thinking that is being generated in universities in the United States, I stand by my firm belief that the education system in this country is designed solely to create lemmings who sit quietly in a cubicle, say yes, and die.

  3. Emily Says:

This is a letter from a 10 year old girl. She is writing a letter to a children’s book club. The club had sent the child a volume about penguins, enclosing card urging the child to express her opinion of it.

    She wrote:

This book gives me more information about penguins than I care to have.

  4. HOWIE Says:

    Zen Lill:

I agree with what Tsarme said in #6(yesterday)about hypnosis. The brain can be coaxed while under hypnosis, to believe something occurred that never did. It can become a permanent memory when the imagined experience never really happened.

It takes a tremendous amount of experience to keep totally objective when putting someone under. Your beliefs can be transferred to the one under hypnosis.

You do not realize that you are playing with fire.

    HOWIE

  5. HOWIE Says:

    Tsarme (#3 yesterday):

I must disagree with your opinion that enhanced humans “would be as dangerous as a mad gorilla in charge of the Kitchen.”

The TAO know what they are doing – they took you and made you a Tao, albeit a temporary one.

They spend much time and energy choosing whomever they choose to command other worlds. They do not act randomly.

Not ALL humans carry tendencies toward greed or racism. You should not be one to talk. It appears that you need to spend more time in the simulator to learn more about humans and their usefulness.

We have made a mess out of our own planet. This did not need to happen this way. It could have turned out completely different.

    HOWIE

  6. Zen Lill Says:

Howie, I will exercise great caution in my scripting, thank you for your input. I understand the fire you speak of, it is very clearly spelled out in the manifesto of mind control, a lengthy one at that by Fritz -verylongGermansurname-, I know exactly what types of words to use for motivation, my usage is for weight loss/sports-athletic performance and a few other areas of interest that shouldn’t create any serious mind turmoil, only the rearranging of un-motivational subconscious wiring, that’s it. I don’t do parlor tricks, that’s dangerous indeed.

  7. AH Says:

Michelle, it’s been difficult to find your blog. The powers that be are trying to make it difficult for your blog to hold its coveted position atop the blogistphere.

I will answer an inquiry concerning who really killed Miss Lizzie Borden’s father and step mother.

Bita and I went back to discover the who, how and why of the killing of the step mother and the father of Miss Lizzie Borden.

First let me say that Miss Lizzie did not get along with her step mother because her step mother was going to inherit the major portion of her fathers property.

Second Miss Lizzie no longer had the privacy she enjoyed before the arrival of the step mother. This would prove to be the fatal cause of their deaths.

Third Lizzie knew that her father didn’t like the fact that she had spurned the proposals of at least two men he thought would have made good catches.

The week before the murders Lizzie had purchased Prussic Acid from the store to poison them via their morning mutton. She had administered small doses into the mutton every day for a week. The best it did was make them sick the day before the murders.

On the day of the murders, at 8:33, the step mother, Mrs. Borden went looking for Bridget Sullivan who was the live-in help. She had a room at the back of the house.

So when Mrs. Borden couldn’t find her in the front doing her chores, she went to the back to look for her. She entered Bridget’s room but didn’t see her.

Miss Lizzie’s room was also located at the back of the house. So she decided to check with Miss Lizzie to discover if she had seen Bridget. As she approached Lizzie’s room she heard strange sounds and decided to approach cautiously.

Rather than announce her presence she eased open the door of Miss Lizzie’s room. She screamed in shock as she discovered Miss Lizzie and Bridget naked in each others embraces. They were in the passions of love so deep that they barely heard Mrs. Borden’s screams of disgust.

However they did feel the blows of the objects that Mrs. Borden was hurling in their direction as she swore that she would have them arrested and jailed for their sins against God and nature.

While Bridget was begging Mrs. Borden not to reveal what she had seen, Miss Lizzie calmly put went out side and returned with a small hatchet and smacked Mrs. Borden in the head knocking her cold.

She slapped Bridget and told her to grab her feet and help her move the body to Mrs. Borden’s bed room where she threw the body on the floor.

While they were trying to decide what to do Mrs. Borden came to. Miss Lizzie pounced upon her and told Bridget to go get the hatchet. Bridget discovered an axe close by and returned with it.

She discovered Mrs. Borden getting the better of Miss Lizzie in the tussle and promptly swung the axe into the body of Mrs. Borden as Mrs. Borden recoiled and reached for the axe Bridget swung it and hit her again, this time Mrs. Borden lay mourning and bleeding to death.

Miss Lizzie ran out and retrieved the hatchet and in her anger pummeled the dying Mrs. Borden until there was not mourning or breath coming from the body.

They both still naked were covered with blood. So they promptly bathed each other and set about about making her alibis.

Miss Lizzie began rehearsing their alibis and had Bridget go into her room and clean up the blood while she thought of what to do when Mr. Borden returned home.

She told her to say that she had been washing windows as Mrs. Borden had commanded her to and that she had seen nor heard anything when Mrs. Borden was being bludgeoned to death. the heat had made her ill so she went to her room to lie down.

Then Miss Lizzie made some tea and put a little prussic acid into it to make her father drowsy when he drank it. She told Bridget to hide the hatchets behind and beside one side of the couch.

She told Bridget that upon her signal she was to do to Mr. Borden what she did to Mrs. Borden and they would swear that they knew nothing of what had happened.

Mr. Borden returned home at about 10:30 and asked for Mrs. Borden. Miss Lizzie told him she was sleeping off a very hot day up stairs and offered to bring Mr. Borden a glass of cold tea before he went to arouse Mrs. Borden.

He accepted and sat on the couch to have his tea. Miss Lizzie went to get the poisoned tea, but Bridget was discovered crouched behind the couch by Mr. Borden with the small hatchet in her hands.

As she tried to wield it against him he grabbed her and screamed for held from Miss Lizzie. Miss Lizzie returned promptly and picked up the big hatchet on the other side of the couch and swung it down into the top right shoulder of the back of Mr. Borden.

As he turned to defend himself Bridget began to pummel him with the small hatchet. He fell back upon the axe that was in his back and slowly lost the will to resist.

Miss Lizzie was distraught with Mr. Borden resisting her attempts to remove the axe from his back so she took the hatchet from Bridget and pummeled him until he no longer moved.

Their clothes were full of blood. Miss Lizzie didn’t feel it would dry in time no matter how hot it was so she ditched it in favor of a brown dress.

She told Bridget she could wash hers and claim it was still wet from the window washing and change into a dry dress and lie down in her room with the story that she had felt faint for all the window washing. And was asleep when Mr. Borden was attacked.

Miss Lizzie was left with the dilemma of coming up with an explanation for her absence. She hid one of the weapons and attempted to wash off the blood of the other and then rub it in the hot ashes of the boiler.

Two days later she attempted to clean the blue dress of the blood stains she missed the on the first cleaning attempt, but the dress was confiscated and the blood stains discovered.

She told her sister what she had done without mentioning the part Bridget played. Her sister knew that they stood to inherit all their father’s lands if Miss Lizzie got off but only a very small part it if Mrs. Borden’s relatives protested as would be their right if Miss Lizzie were convicted of the crime.

So she hired the ex governor, Mr. Robinson, telling him that they would both be very generous if he got Miss Lizzie off.

Ergo, Mr. Robinson took the case knowing that if the jury panel were made up of men who had voted for and supported him in his governorship they would not embarrass him by voting a guilty plea making it seem that he attempted to get a murderess off.

Thus, he set about assuring the jury panel were of men who supported him even though they may have believed that the evidence supported Miss Lizzie’s guilt.

As history has attested his gamble paid off and Miss Lizzie was acquitted.

    Howie;

I agree with you on both accounts. Hypnosis is dangerous in the wrong hands and Tsarmi should consider that he was a pick by the TAO to come to earth and work with us.

What harm has he done? Is he trying to tell us something?

    Laurie

  9. Cookie Says:

Zen Lill I agree with you when you say hypnosis can help with certain bad habits. I used to bite my nails to the quick.

But after six hypnotic session back in 1997, I never did it again.

  10. Madhavi Says:

Michelle: I agree with you and Sarah. There is no excuse for that man’s behavior. Not to stop it by taking the victim from the scene of the crime is unforgivable.

My sister was raped and the people who came to her rescue did not admonish the perpetrator and then leave. The beat him dragged him away and took my sister home.

America is sick. We read all the excuses the americans were making for that man’s behavior. How can americans condemn what happened to that little boy in China and they turn around and make excuses for a huge man leaving a little boy in the clutches or a pedophile raping him?

    America is sick!!!!!!!!!

    Madhavi

  11. Lundon Says:

Howie, you were right to tell Tsarmi that he has no right to criticize the TAO for wanting to do with us what they have done with his kind.

What makes him think that he makes a better ambassador that we will?

    Lundon

  12. Anonymous Says:

Why are we worrying about a bunch of deviate kids that were getting showered with gifts and attention.

  13. Tsarmi Says:

I stick by my opinion. I can see other beings being selected to go out and lead other societies, but not earthlings.

The potential of their brains coupled with the inner sickness of their psyches is so dangerous as to demand that all other beings working with them err in favor of not allowing these sick creatures to leave this solar system alive.

I would most definitely be for killing any human destined to get their brain’s ability to expand. These creatures need to spend centuries on this planet allowing for the possibility of natural selection to weed out those sick elements that make humans disgusting beings.

Would you want a super brained human loose on the planet earth? I doubt it. If it were a white bigot, a christian or Muslim Zealot. The rest of the population could go the way of entire villages under german occupation during WWII.

Humans have no consciousness when it comes to harming others in the name of their particular belief.

In america alone 33% will agree to any deprivation or harm to OTWs for whatever reason. My intellect tells me that if humans have so little emotional connection to fellow humans, they will have even less to the angst, mental or physical suffering of aliens.

My feelings remain the same. Treat them as cattle until the natural selection process has bread that insensitivity out of them.

The best thing going for humans is their value as a tasty snack. They do not care about the death of other humans on their planet.

They kill each other with chemicals, cigarettes, wars, fluorides, flu shots, bad medicine, the refusal of access to medical care, and individual acts of violence.

So they can hardly complain when we eat a few. You who complain about my comments aren’t the ones who have to be the victims of your fellow humans’ sickness.

You may not be one of those callous humans but are you willing to force non humans to risk getting one of your sick humans as their commanders.

AH: Loved your revealing the truth behind the mystery of who killed Lizzie Borden’s father and mother. Often as is said, Truth is stranger than fiction.

But just to show that I have a few good stories up my sleeve. Here is an account of a 65 year old Cessna Pilot trying to fly a plane that is not made to fly across oceans because it does not have the fuel capacity to do so.

He left Monterey CA and attempted to fly to Hilo air port in Hawaii.

Out of Fuel Cessna Ditches in Pacific; USCG Rescues Pilot

Traveling at an average 175.2 mph, Charles Brian Mellor’s flight plan would have him reach the picturesque black beaches of Hilo just shy of 13 hours. During the flight, he had ample time to check and recheck his calculations.

In doing so he came to a disturbing conclusion. He would not have the opportunity to fly into paradise. He was going to run out of fuel long before reaching the islands.

At 12:30 p.m. the command duty officer, at the 14th Coast Guard District Joint Rescue Coordination Center, answers the phone and receives a briefing of Mellor’s situation from the Federal Aviation Administration in Honolulu. Lt. Bridget Fitzgibbons learns that Mellor, a 65-year-old man is flying his Cessna from Monetary, Calif. to Hilo, Hawaii, and is running out of fuel about 500 miles from land.

Fitzgibbons calls FAA Oakland for flight details that will help her make accurate decisions in planning Mellor’s rescue.

[HONOLULU – Coast Guard aircrews rescue a pilot who was forced to ditch his Cessna 310 aircraft approximately 13 miles northeast of the Big Island, Hawaii Oct. 7, 2011.

A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Barbers Point assisted the pilot during the process of ditching his aircraft.

The Hercules aircrew maintained communications with the pilot during the ditching process and vectored a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and the Coast Guard Cutter Kiska to the scene.

The Dolphin aircrew deployed a rescue swimmer to pick up the pilot. The rescue swimmer hoisted the pilot into the Dolphin and the aircrew transported him to Hilo Medical Center. U.S. Coast Guard photo.]

When Mellor made his flight plan in Monterey he determined how much fuel he would need to travel to Hawaii.

The Cessna’s internal fuel tanks do not allow for trans-ocean flights, so he was allowed extra internal fuel bladders to complete the transit.

Mellor stripped out the back seats of the aircraft and replaced them with the extra fuel tanks required to make the trip.

Although tailwinds pushed Mellor and his plane 60 percent of the way, he encountered headwinds after crossing the point of no return.

It was at this point his calculations indicated something was wrong. He had enough fuel for 14 hours but had been airborne for 13 of what should have been a 12 hour flight.

Meanwhile, Fitzgibbons reaches out to Richard Roberts, District 14 response management deputy branch chief, to explain the impending rescue. Roberts, a former Coast Guard pilot, has vital experience and knowledge to contribute to the rescue.

Although rescue of Mellor was imminent, he must first survive ditching his aircraft somewhere in the Pacific. Roberts and Fitzgibbons begin to formulate a plan.

“The very first thing that needed to happen was to ensure all response coordination efforts are being managed to the fullest capacity,” said Roberts.

“Phone calls were made to not only to Air Station Barbers Point, but U.S. Pacific Command, the Navy, the nearest hospital and then to Coast Guard Pacific Area Command Center in California and Coast Guard Headquarters.”

The plan was to have a Coast Guard Air Station Barber’s Point HC-130 Hercules airplane aircrew rendezvous with Mellor. The aircrew would coach Mellor through the complex process for ditching the Cessna.

At Air Station Barbers Point, Hercules aircraft commander Lt. Eric Majeska gathers the aircrew to determine the best course of action.

Majeska noted that the challenge facing them would test each crewmember’s ability to function in a high stress situation.

As the aircraft commander, Majeska explained “everything is depending on your ability to remain calm and confident to help someone who is going to have to make decisions that will determine their own fate.”

For the aircrew, the confidence to help Mellor would come from their training and experience. Majeska and his co-pilot, Lt. j.g. Bryan Weber, reached out to other seasoned pilots to tap into decades of flying experience.

For Webber, a junior officer and pilot, gaining the knowledge of others was crucial for developing the best course of action.

”His ability to ditch this plane successfully would depend on all the knowledge we would be able to lend him,” said Weber.

Once Mellor entered the water there would be little the Hercules aircrew could do. That is when the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew takes over the rescue plan.

They would meet the Cessna 310 at sea and deploy a rescue swimmer to recover Mellor after the plane ditched. As both aircrews prepared to launch, Fitzgibbons was busy developing the check list for the rescue plan.

In gathering information, Fitzgibbons realized that Mellor may have to ditch outside the 80 mile range of the helicopter. If this occurred, a backup plan would be necessary to rescue Mellor.

Fitzgibbons made a call to the commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Kiska, a 110-foot patrol boat stationed in Hilo. He was directed to get the cutter ready and underway within the hour.

“Our biggest fear at this time was Mellor may have to ditch his aircraft approximately 100 miles off the Big Island,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Chris Sena, a watchstander working with Fitzgibbons.

Dolphin helicopters only have an approximate range of 80 miles. For this reason the Kiska and crew might become necessary.

As the rescue crews were preparing, Mellor’s plane caught a small tailwind and was covering more ocean than previously anticipated. Sena and Fitzgibbons coordinated a track line with the cutter to ensure they would intercept the Cessna.

By this time the Hercules aircrew launched, and headed northwest to rendezvous with Mellor.

As the multiple Coast Guard assets took to the ocean, and air or stood by the radio, all the elements of the rescue began to come together like a well-oiled machine. All with one goal; get to Cessna and rescue Mellur.

More than 150 miles off shore from Hawaii, the Hercules crew rendezvous with Mellor. By this time the Dolphin helicopter crew had landed at the Hilo International Airport for fuel and waited for their call to launch.

The Hercules crew established communications with Mellor and the pilots began to talk him through the ditching sequence and recue.

“As soon as we found him on a frequency, we introduced ourselves and told him we are the Coast Guard and we are here to help him get through this,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Miguel Martinez, the radio man with the Hercules crew. “Immediately he seemed relieved and we switched to a radio frequency with less traffic.”

The aircrew instructed Mellor to secure anything that was loose in his aircraft and began to review his two options for ditching the plane. Mellor’s options would be a power-on ditch or a power-off ditch.

During a power-on ditch Mellor would have full control of the plane’s engine, Webber explained. This allows the pilot to add power and make the airplane more stable or add power to gain altitude to go up and then back down.

A power-off ditch is where the engine is already gone, whether it was secured by the pilot or not. In this situation, Mellor would have only one shot at landing the plane in the water.

“Mellor originally wanted to perform a power-off ditch,” said Weber. “However, we stood by our advice and said it would be best to conduct a power-on ditch.”

The reasoning behind the power-on recommendation lies in the Cessna’s twin engine design according to Webber. It would be very unlikely for both the engines to cut off at the same time during a power-off ditch.

This would make the plane very unstable and Mellor would be forced to disable both engines manually, adding another task to the already complex situation.

As Mellor debated which ditch to perform, the cutter Kiska and crew staged approximately 40 miles northeast of the Big Island. The Dolphin helicopter crew finished re-fueling and stood by for notification that Mellor was within range.

Sector Honolulu watch standers instructed the Dolphin rescue crew to launch as Mellor crossed the 80-mile mark. With the guidance of air traffic control personnel, the helicopter crew also rendezvoused with Mellor.

At this point the the command center watchstanders could only listening to the radio traffic and wait for the air crews to execute the next phase of the mission. From this point on it was up to Mellor to follow the instructions given by the Coast Guard aircrew and ditch his aircraft into the rolling seas off of Hawaii.

13 miles from the Big Island the Hercules dropped to 1,000 feet and the Dolphin helicopter crew came in behind Mellor and tailed him as he descended into the South Pacific Ocean.

“Looking out, at first I was sure he had it, he was going to be fine and we’re just out here for protocol,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Jeffery Moeschler, flight mechanic aboard the Dolphin helicopter.

“But as I’m watching him drop down to 400 feet and lower, he just kept dropping. I just think it isn’t going to happen.”

In the front of the dolphin, aircraft commander Lt. Matthew Matsuoka, watched as the Cessna glided above the water. He calls for “rescue check two” and Moeschler and the rescue swimmer prepare for the impending rescue.

They watch as Mellor glided his Cessna along the tops of the rolling seas, kicking up spray as the plane made several light brushes before dropping the nose and skidding across the surface as the Cessna spun 180 degrees in froth of turbid water before coming to a stop.

Mellor kept the plane vertical, but within moments it begins to sink. The Dolphin crew approached as Mellor crawled out of the Cessna and onto the wing, clutching a life raft.

Within seconds, the rescue swimmer, Petty Officer 2nd Class James Clyne, was lowered to the water. He swam to Mellor and guided him off the wing. Together, they swam to the rescue basket.

Mellor was safely placed in a rescue basket and hoisted into the helicopter by Moeschler. Moments later the Cessna slipped beneath the surface and sank in more than 6,000 feet of water.

Mellor was taken to Hilo Medical Center in good condition with no visible injuries. In the command center Fitzgibbons made final notes in the official operational summary report which was filled with a complex web of agency interaction, information sharing and asset coordination which led to the successful rescue.

But the final piece of information recorded was perhaps the simplest and most important. One life saved.

I’d like to make a few comments on recent conversation here:

My experience has proven to me that the simulator doesn’t always help ABs “get their moves down”. Just like anything, only the real thing gives the full experience, and with that knowledge to make it better. ABs often skip crucial modules when they get frustrated and/or feel its taking too long. They often miss the full context of things.

I have had many a call from an AB who has “successfully” gone through a simulator experience, in this example I’m going to use, learning to drive, and then they are unbelieving that the wheels of the car are physically touching down on the roadway, while they are on an actual road.

As for sex and the simulator, it appears they do not orgasm in the simulator. It’s a shocking experience for them when they ejaculate in a real-time situation.
Also, I have been told they do not get the sensation of feeling when having sex in the simulator, its just going through the motions. So, having real-time sex creates sensation and that in turns makes them better lovers, not necessariy what they learned in the simulator.

As for HBs and what ABs may or may not be using them may be a bit misleading. Some HBs are really HBs. I’m not convinced they are ever used for anything other than a food source, unless an AB “falls in love/creates an attraction” to their food source. Some HBs are actually AB/HBs. Some know it; some it don’t. I’m more inclined to believe that those in that gene pool may be more usable to ABs.

As for the size of the HB brain, HBs have yet to fully understand and harness the enormous power of the collective thought. It may well be that the “unused” brain is temporary “RAM” if you will, for temporary storage of collective thought. This is still just a theory of mine; I have yet to actually discuss it with anyone (well, except for just now!).

I do know that you can contact your subconscious outside of hypnosis. HBs are constantly communicating with their subconscious by their own thought process, during the wake cycle. How you talk to yourself and what you believe about yourself impacts your subconscious directly. If you have the awareness, you can also contact and communicate with your subconscious during the sleep cycle.

My subsconscious is telling me my phone is about to ring, and its a call I’ve been waiting for so I’m done for now. Ciao.

Tsarmi, as much as I hate to admit it, your estimation of the human condition is spot on. I wouldn’t want to be ruled by one with a super brain.

So why would I wish that upon some alien society? Those who do so are speaking from the narcissistic egos humans have. With it we can only see our own value.

We refuse to acknowledge that we are terrible to each other the minute we get a little unchecked power. The police, air line personal, civil servants, and of course the fucking meter bastards are a few positions that allow people to abuse the power given them. Almost without exception they all do.

The greater the position of trust the more likely they will abuse it. In religion, and sports, Sexual abuse and pedophiles abound. And if there is personal enrichment involved there is no level we won’t stoop to to get it(See 16.A Concerned Citizen Says:

Big news. President Barack Obama has announced that he will personally make the decision on whether to approve a major 1,700-mile oil pipeline project right through America’s heartland.

This gives us a critical opportunity to share our concerns with President Obama. and make sure he hears directly from our 750,000-strong EDF Action Network.

    More Background
The proposed Keystone XL pipeline is a terrible idea. Among other things, the pipeline would:

    • Transport tar sands oil – an exceptionally dirty kind of oil known as diluted bitumen – 1,700 miles from Canada’s boreal forest to American refineries in Texas.

    • Cut across the already-stressed Ogallala Aquifer, one of the largest aquifers in the world and a critical source of fresh water for more than 2 million Americans and the U.S. High Plains’ agricultural industry – part of America’s “breadbasket.”

    • Bisect the Sandhills of Nebraska, 1.3 million acres of wetlands and home to more than 1,000 species of mammals, birds, fish, and plants.

    • Accelerate the refining of the gooey toxic tar sands oil, which generates more global warming pollution per barrel than conventional oil.

President Obama had it exactly right when he shared his concerns about the pipeline to a local Nebraska television station this week:

“We need to make sure that we have energy security and that we aren’t just relying on Middle East sources. But there’s a way of doing that and making sure that the health and safety of the American people and folks in Nebraska are protected.”

Simply put, the Keystone XL project will not protect the folks in Nebraska, the American people, or our environment.
