Flap Your Lips Friday
Posted by Michelle Moquin on January 20th, 2012
Good morning!
It’s Friday – Yay!!
I just couldn’t resist this one this morning! – who doesn’t love when a man starts flappin’ his lips and croons the words of Al Green? Especially when it is our beloved President Obama singing, “I’m…so in love with you…”! Just how many women are wishing he was singing it personally to them? (heads nodding “yes” – hand in the air, lips saying “uh huh”) If you were a fan on the man before, this is gonna make you drip and drool with delight! Did I just say that?! Yep I did. I just love it!! Made my day – Enjoy!
President Obama Sings Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ During Fundraiser At Apollo Theater In Harlem (VIDEO)
President Obama has a message to his donors: Let’s stay together.
While speaking Thursday night during a fundraiser at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, the commander in chief showed off some impressive singing abilities. After mentioning that soul legend Rev. Al Green was at the event, Obama belted out a short rendition of Green’s classic hit “Let’s Stay Together.”
“I…I’m so in love with you,” sang the President.
Obama then playfully pointed backstage and explained, “those guys didn’t think I would do it. I told you I was gonna do it.” Addressing Green in the audience, Obama said, “Don’t worry Rev, I cannot sing like you, but I just wanted to show my appreciation.”
ABC News explains that about 1,400 supporters attended the event, which included performances from Al Green and India.Arie. As Politico reports, Obama likely raised at least $3.1 million from his various New York fundraisers on Thursday.
Readers…especially the women readers: Isn’t this just the best? FLOTUS is one lucky lady. I know you’ve got something to say. How about sending some lovin’ back to the president. Start flapping your lips. Blog me.
Tsarmi: A timely post and one that is worth giving time.
Doug: Another article that needs to be read by those who really love our four-legged family & friends. Thanks.
That is all I have time for this morning. I’ll catch up with the rest of you tomorrow.
Peace and LOVE

6 Mistakes Even Good Cooks Make
Even experienced home cooks sometimes make mistakes that prevent their food from tasting as delicious as it could.
Here, the most common mistakes made by home cooks…
Buying vegetables that look fresh rather than those that feel fresh.
It’s no secret that the freshness of the ingredients affects the quality of the meal. Unfortunately, most home cooks rely on visual clues to determine which vegetables are fresh.
Produce suppliers and supermarkets know this and use waxes, preservatives and other tricks to keep produce looking fresh as long as possible, but underneath, that produce is losing taste and texture.
Best: Pick produce by feel. Touch the stem, stalk or roots of a vegetable—whatever part would have drawn water from the ground or from the plant. The drier this feels, the older the vegetable likely is.
Examples: The root end of an onion should feel pliable, not dry… the stem of a green pepper or the bottom of a head of lettuce should feel moist.
Using water as an ingredient. Water has essentially no flavor.
Most recipes that call for water would be more flavorful and interesting if another liquid, perhaps chicken or vegetable broth, were used in its place.
Example: Cook white rice in broth rather than water for a far more flavorful side dish.
Adding seasonings without first testing them. There’s no going back when you toss spices into a dish that you’ve prepared, especially when it comes to salt.
Instead, spoon a small amount of whatever you’re cooking into a tiny dish, then add a small amount of the seasonings and taste the result before seasoning the rest of the meal.
If you’re adding spices to a dish and not following a tested recipe, use no more than two or three spices.
More than three spices in one dish starts to confuse the palate.
Trusting the clock when cooking meat or fish.
Just because a recipe says, “Cook for 10 minutes,” it doesn’t mean that’s what you should do.
Your stove, your pan or the size of the cut of meat or fish you selected could be significantly different from the one used to test the recipe, which means that your meal could end up substantially over- or undercooked even if you follow the recipe perfectly.
Some recipes attempt to account for this problem by offering a range of cooking times—such as “Cook for eight to 12 minutes,” for example, but that doesn’t really solve the problem.
Many home cooks arbitrarily select the midpoint when a range of cooking times is supplied, while many others choose the longest time mentioned to make sure that meats are cooked through and safe to eat—resulting in overcooked, rubbery meals.
Instead, use a meat thermometer to determine when the protein you’re cooking has reached its proper temperature.
Poultry, pork and fish typically are cooked properly when the thickest part of the meat reaches 165°F at its center.
The proper temperature for steak depends on how you like your steak cooked.
Rare is 125°F… medium is 140°F… and well-done is 160°F at the center of the cut of meat.
Slicing into meat to see if it is cooked through.
Cutting into meat as it’s cooking or shortly after it is done cooking allows the juice inside to flow out, taking much of the flavor with it.
Instead, use a meat thermometer to see whether meat is cooked sufficiently, as described above.
Meats generally should not be sliced or served immediately after they have finished cooking, either, to avoid similar juice and flavor loss.
Steaks should be allowed to rest for five to 10 minutes. Larger pieces of meat, including whole roasted turkeys, pork shoulder or leg of lamb, should be allowed to rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
Deglazing exclusively with wine.
Fat and tiny caramelized pieces of protein typically remain in the pan after meat, poultry or seafood has been cooked.
Most home cooks know that this residue, called “fond,” has wonderful flavor and can form the basis of a sauce.
But many also assume, incorrectly, that wine is the only liquid they can add to the pan to make this sauce, a process called deglazing.
In fact, pans can be deglazed with just about any cool liquid. Spirits, broth, fruit juice or coconut milk are all valid choices. T
he best liquid to select usually is one closely associated with the ethnicity of the meal you are trying to prepare.
Examples: Deglaze with pineapple juice for a Hawaiian dish… deglaze with tequila for a Mexican dish.
Even if you don’t have a specific ethnicity of food in mind, deglazing with something other than wine is a great way to make a recipe that you’ve prepared many times taste different and new.

Obama sing it to me baby.
January 20th, 2012 at 10:50 am
YES! Michelle, I did all of those. I put it on a loop and just closed my eyes and listened to my President serenade me.
My brother called mom and said sis is losing it again over a black man.
He’s only nine so I excuse him. I’m 18 and voting for O-B-A-M-A.
My dad says one term is enough for a black man. He says we have given them a man in the White House, now it time to return the helm to proper leadership.
I smile and say yes, Daddy. But I am registered to vote and I am voting for O-B-A-M-A.

Just to keep you up on the Newt.
====================
WASHINGTON – Marianne Gingrich on Thursday night reiterated her claim that her ex-husband, Newt Gingrich, asked her for an open marriage in 1998.
“My story is the truth, and if he were really sorry he could have stood up and said so, but he didn’t,” she told ABC.
The remarks were part of an interview that aired in full Thursday night, but the open marriage conversation was released early in the day, causing a media frenzy.
Marianne Gingrich said she “knew” that her husband was unfaithful when he refused to answer yes or no when she asked him directly, but she said it was especially hurtful to learn later that Callista Bisek (now Gingrich) stayed in her bedroom in Washington with him, the same place her husband would call her from every night.
“He always called me .. and always ended with ‘I love you.’ Well, she was listening,” Marianne told ABC’s Brian Ross, her voice dropping to a near whisper.

Men can be despicable. But this cad is one of the worst.
However, it will not deter men from voting for him. Now why a woman, being a republican is no excuse, would vote for him is mind boggling.
She might as well be telling her man it is okay to treat her that way.

Wow. All of Newt’s friends plus his two daughters know it’s a lie? If I wanted an open marriage with my wife, I sure wouldn’t have a family discussion about it.
It would be between me and my wife only. Let’s see. He walked out on wife number one, and had a six month affair with current wife before walking out on wife two.
Hmmm. Who’s credibility should I rely on? I think I’ll go with wife number two.

Apple only has a tiny market share but a huge and ignorant following of fanatically intransigent users in positions of power who are forcing “Mac-only” transitions in several industries.
Apple’s demented goal is to force every music consumer and artist into its iTune, implying that any music outside of iTunes is pirated.
People need to stop supporting these evil monopolies.

I think that was a beautiful tribute to FLOTUS and no I don’t want him singing to me, though I would take a serenade from my own special someone. Our Mr Pres is impressive and fine example of a real man, I don’t like to say ‘she’s lucky’ bc no she’s not, she’s hot, he’s hot and they are a great pairing.

Holly, the reason so many white women are supporting Gingrich is very simple, Racism is that powerful in America.
When I was there on a two year visit. It was so apparent that the whites resented having to share the wealth of the nation with the their OTW fellow americans.
They are ready to believe anything to confirm their hatred and greed.

Padma and Holly, I would love to bitch slap every white woman that I overhear support any of the GOP candidates, and Newt makes me more ill than the rest of them, and that is their whole selling point…’who is the lesser of the 2-3 evils’ – how about we vote for the man who isn’t EeeVil, the one who is already there Obama and if we’re getting rid of anybody to ‘take our country back’ how about impeaching all the members of our bought and paid for SCOTUS (or SCROTUM, whichever you prefer though that gives a bad name to all the nice scrotums I know : ) – white men can justify any behavior with that whole ‘men fight the wars’ and to that I say: you start em’ you should fight em’ A-holezzz.

Rick Santorum is now the winner in Iowa by 34 votes. But eight precincts cannot now show us their votes.
Mitt Romney won New Hampshire.
Last night at the CNN debate, it would not surprise me if Newt Gingrich locked in a win in South Carolina. John King, the CNN debate moderator, was in an impossible situation.
He had to ask the question. It was legitimate news. If he had asked it at the end, he would have been accused of stringing everybody along for ratings. He asked it at the beginning.
And in asking it at the beginning, and in giving Gingrich no real time restriction to follow in answering the question, King let Gingrich off to a strong start, hitting the question out of the park, winning the debate on question one.
Other than Rick Perry dropping out, it was the story of the day.
There were two questions last night that the news has focused on all week. Gingrich’s marriage and Romney’s taxes. Gingrich got a standing ovation. Romney, for the second time this week, flubbed his answer and the crowd jeered.
We may be on the verge of something we haven’t seen in Republican politics in quite a while: A three way split in the first three contests. This has turned into one wild political ride.

Addressing America’s Top Priorities, Celebrating Martin
Luther King, Jr.
January 20, 2012
Instead of getting to work on legislation to extend the payroll tax cut for 160 million Americans, on Wednesday, House Republicans attempted to force the U.S. to default on its debt. Extending the payroll tax cut would put $1,000 in the pockets of the average American family next year.
House Democrats are committed to extending the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits and ensuring that our nation’s seniors can continue to see the doctor of their choice.
One year ago, this week, House Republicans tried to force seniors to pay more for their prescription drugs and take health benefits away from millions of Americans by attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
The health reform law put Americans and their families in charge of their health care. By contrast, a repeal bill would have put insurance companies back in charge – repealing key new consumer protections for Americans and their families.
Instead of actively working to increase health costs for millions of Americans, the GOP should work on our nation’s top priority – job creation.
My Democratic colleagues and I have put forth a back-to-basics, ABCs plan to rebuild the pillars of America that have historically made our economy strong—small businesses, entrepreneurs, and an all-inclusive and thriving middle class:
American Made, Build America, and Community Recovery and Leadership. We are committed to reigniting the American Dream by building ladders of opportunity and tearing down barriers to success for anyone willing to work hard, play by the rules, and take responsibility.
Congresswoman Pelosi visits small businesses on a Merchant Walk in Noe Valley to discuss House Democrats’ commitment to helping small businesses grow and hire.
Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a powerful, inspirational, and unwavering voice for hope and peace, justice and brotherhood, civil rights and civility.
He led a movement and changed a nation; he fought for freedom and summoned a people to live up to our highest ideals.
When Dr. King spoke, Americans did not simply listen – many were inspired to act, to march, to demonstrate and sit in and struggle for equality.
It is an extraordinary tribute to Dr. King’s life and work that our nation now honors him among our greatest leaders and heroes with a memorial on the National Mall. Standing on an axis of leadership between Presidents Lincoln and Jefferson, Dr. King’s words still echo and resonate in the hearts and souls of millions, here and around the world.
We must cherish his memory, build on his legacy, and honor his commitment with acts of service and a renewed dedication to overcome discrimination in our time.
Do you Qualify for an Earned Income Tax Credit?
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) can put up to $5,751 in the pockets of working Americans who do not earn a high income.
The IRS estimated that 20% of eligible tax payers do not claim and receive their refundable tax credit.
Take advantage of National EITC Awareness Day next Friday and find out more here.

Michelle: I have lived in South Carolina all my life. It is a state proud of having had slaves. Most are from white immigrants who were imported to maintain our majority over our niggras.
They are either learned bigots or racists looking for a place to practice their trade. They have certainly found it her in SC. We love to tell ourselves that we are special because we are white.
Meanwhile our state government leaders have sold out to every corporation that will shell out a dollar for the privilege of fucking over the citizens of SC.
We like most souther states have the worst protections from corporate abuse imaginable. Everything is polluted here and we have some of the worst labor laws in the nation.
But each white citizen of SC can look in the mirror and know that the laws and government of the state of South Carolina will ensure that they are treated better than SC niggers.
If in doubt all we have to do is look at our Confederate Flags flying proudly over all our state offices. We proudly say to the world THE WHITE MAN RULES HERE.
Now for the election of the great white hope to lead this nation the way he has led the proud state of South Carolina.
Michelle, when you let Madaline loose. Please send her to South Carolina first to rid us of these pieces of shit first.
