Personhood Prevails

Good morning.

This to me is unbelievable and inconceivable…but it is happening.

Girls and concerned guys: This is a must watch from Rachel Maddow’s Show last night. Anybody who votes for any republican presidential candidate, know that you are voting for this Personhood pledge, because all of the republican presidential candidates back it.

Operation Rescue is there to help, and they are going nationwide. They are determined to rid the country of abortion clinics. They list who the doctors are, what they look like, and even where they live. They have labeled them as “Cartels”.

Abortion doctors have been killed in the past – do not think for one minute that the murdering of abortion doctors is over.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Readers: Maddow may not be hysterical, but in my opinion we need to get hysterical and stop this madness.

Thoughts? Blog me.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

They are playing dirty — listing the private addresses of Doctors is targeting them for possible assassination from fanatics who believe in the sanctity of life for the unborn … but it is OK to kill Doctors in the prime of their lives.

Abortion Doctors have been killed in the past and certainly will be again.

Women should have complete control over their bodies. No one should be able to tell Women that they must sacrifice themselves to death in order to give birth to a baby which might not live anyway, due to complications. This causes 2 deaths. It does not sound like a viable solution for God-fearing, Christians. It is just another way to control Women.

These people need to follow the 10 Commandments in the Bible — “Thou shall not kill” is a good one for this situation.

Wasn’t Merianne having an affair with Newt while Newt was married to his first wife and wasn’t she the cause of his first divorce? Why has she suddenly become so moralistic at this late date?

So the Employment statistics are getting better for Obama.
What will the republicans say now?
    =====================
WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (Reuters) – New U.S. applications for unemployment benefits dropped to a near four-year low last week, a government report on Thursday showed, pointing to continued improvement in the labor market.

The Labor Department said initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 50,000 to 352,000, the lowest level since April 2008 and the biggest drop since September 2005.

The prior claims data was revised up to 402,000 from the previously reported 399,000.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected claims to fall only to 385,000. Last week’s claims data covered the survey period for January nonfarm payrolls and claims dropped by 14,000 between the December and January survey periods.

Payrolls increased 200,000 in December, with the unemployment rate dropping to 8.5 percent.

A Labor Department official said claims for six states, including California and Virginia, had been estimated owing to the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday.

He said there was nothing unusual in the unadjusted data, which showed a sharp decline in claims.

The four-week moving average of claims, considered to be a better measure of labor market trends, dropped 3,500 to 379,000 last week.

The number of unemployed workers still collecting benefits after an initial week aid fell 215,000 to 3.43 million – the lowest since September 2008. (Reporting By Lucia Mutikani; Editing by Andrea Ricci)

The lies just keep coming. When our candidate lost Rick Santorum was supposed to have lost by 8 votes all the media was blaring that Romney was the winner of Iowa.

Now that it has been verified that Rick won by 34 votes, It is being declared a “virtual tie” by the Romney spin machine.

Why were those votes held up in the first place?

    Keith

  6. JL Says:

Interesting how this pundit did not refer to the election of Bush, and how, around 3-4 in the morning, Ailes of Fox News declared Bush the winner under the most questionable circumstances, and of course centering the whole thing around Florida.

You could say “Fox stole the election by a squeaker.”

Truth be told, there is a steep mountain to climb in making America’s elections honest, but the real housecleaning needs to begin with the media.

  7. CH Says:

The media was in on it from the beginning. Since when do you not question an 8 vote victory when you knew all the votes hadn’t been counted?

No one even bothered to caveat the victory with a disclaimer, all you know is Iowa GOP said he won and you just reported it like little bobbleheads.

  8. SS Says:

It’s hilarious to me that the right grabbed onto the tea party, then built it up with money from establishment republicans with Americans for Prosperity, and now, it will truly be their downfall.

They expect people to just fall in line with who they want to run, and not report anything about them that may be the truth and end up being a totally negative issue.

They don’t want to talk about the real reason why Mittens has his $$$$ overseas — it’s untraceable! There is no way to see how the money is made offshore.

There are two reason why people keep their money in the Caymans. 1) to avoid taxes and 2) to launder it!

It’s that simple! And it’s all going to come out! If you love the US so much, Mitt, why not keep your $$$ in this country?

  9. Lois Says:

Michelle, I emailed this story to a woman who is having an affair with my husband.
    ====================
A former NASA specialist allegedly drove 250 miles to shoot and kill her husband’s mistress after he refused to end the extramarital affair.

Police say that Shannon O’Roark Griffin left a marriage counseling session in Kansas on Friday after her husband Roscoe Griffin revealed he was having an affair and refused to break off the romance, The Associated Press says. He told his wife that he wanted to get a divorce, police told The AP.

Later that afternoon, O’Roark Griffin, 52, arrived at the home near Kansas City, Mo. of psychiatrist 46-year-old Irina Puscariu, Griffin’s lover, and shot her in the face three times, KDAF says.

Puscariu’s mother was home and witnessed the shooting, police said according to ABC.

However, it’s possible that the affair was already over by the time O’Roark Griffin showed up in Kansas City.

A retired Kansas City police officer who was friends with Puscariu told KCTV that she ended the relationship with Griffin, an Air Force colonel, when she learned he was married.

Officers from the Kansas HIghway Patrol caught O’Roark Griffin near Wichita, who admitted that she had two unloaded handguns in the car, WFAA reports.

O’Roark Griffin is being held in jail on $1 million bail for first-degree murder charges.
    =======================
She called the police and claimed I threatened her. But now her secret is out. Her husband called me and said he wanted me to testify at their child custody hearing.

I wonder if I should tell him that my husband thinks the child is his?

  10. Nora Says:

Michelle republicans for the most part are just to race crazy to make intelligent decisions. This won’t matter.

  11. Human Events Says:

Texas governor Rick Perry suspended his presidential campaign today, saying “there is no viable path forward for me in this 2012 campaign.”

Perry strongly endorsed the candidacy of Newt Gingrich, who he called a “conservative visionary who can transform our country.”

Perry addressed the issues in Gingrich’s past that have troubled many social conservatives, declaring his belief in “the power of redemption” — a timely vote of confidence in Gingrich’s character, given that ABC News is planning to air a great deal of dirty laundry from his angry ex-wife tonight.

Perry was actually polling below Jon Huntsman in both South Carolina and Florida before Huntsman withdrew from the race.

Perry was pulling an average of about 7 percent nationally, after a disappointing finish in Iowa, and New Hampshire prospects so gloomy he didn’t even try to compete in the state.

South Carolina was his big hope for a comeback, but he only scored 3 or 4 percent in the last few polls for that state, taken as recently as yesterday.

It’s a tough finish after a sensational campaign launch. Perry’s excellent resume as Texas governor didn’t help him as much as many observers thought it would.

His endorsement of Gingrich could prove crucial, far beyond merely tossing his 3 percent support into the Gingrich column…

although a new Rasmussen poll says Gingrich is now 2 points ahead of Mitt Romney, an astounding surge of nearly 17 points in just a few days, and another 3 percent could make all the difference in the world.

The greater significance of the Perry endorsement is that Gingrich supporters in other states have seen another vote of confidence cast for their man, while the Romney steamroller slows down a bit.

Perry is also promising to actively campaign for Gingrich. The most recent departure from the GOP race might just end up having a Texas-sized impact after all.

Tobacco Sales to Minors Decline; But Not By Much

    Guam News – Guam News

Guam – The Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse is reporting that the sale of tobacco to minors declined last year.

Their report is based on what they say is a reliable survey of vendors which showed that illegal tobacco sales to those under 18 years of age dropped to 7.8% last year, down from over 10% the previous year. That is below the national average of 9.3%.

DMHSA Spokeswoman Sara Dimla credits GovGuam restrictions on smoking in government offices and on the increase in the tobacco tax which has pushed the price of cigarettes beyond the reach of many young people.

Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz, who sponsored the bill that raised the tobacco tax is glad there has been some decrease, but regrets it was only 2.4%. He was hoping for a drop of more than 28%.

The survey results were based on the unannounced tobacco vendor compliance checks which are conducted by Rev and Tax every year.

In September of last year, 23 stores were found in violation of selling cigarettes to minors and they were assessed fines ranging from $500-dollars for first offenders, to $5-thousand dollars for repeat offenses.
    =====================
    Hello, people.

Tobacco sales to minors are illegal. There shouldn’t be any.

QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE CATARACT SURGERY

While most people come away from cataract surgery feeling satisfied, a friend was recently disappointed by his results.

He thought that after surgery — voila! — he would have perfect vision both up close and far away, with no need for glasses or contacts. In reality, that kind of result isn’t common with cataract surgery.

In my friend’s case, the procedure greatly improved his ability to see where his golf ball landed, but he found that doing a crossword puzzle still required reading glasses.

So what happened? Perhaps my friend’s doctor hadn’t explained how cataract surgery really works — and hadn’t told him that certain compromises must often be made in terms of near and far vision.

Either that, or my friend hadn’t listened carefully to the doctor. It would have been much better if he could have decided himself what sort of vision he wanted after the surgery — but now, of course, it’s too late for that!

    THE TRUTH ABOUT CATARACT SURGERY

Unlike LASIK surgery, where you can try on a pair of contacts or glasses to simulate what your “new” vision will look like, it is impossible to do this with cataract surgery —

so it’s important to have an in-depth conversation with your doctor about how you really use your eyes in daily life before you have the surgery.

To find out more about what exactly a patient needs to know, I called ophthalmologist Brett Levinson, MD, who practices in Baltimore.

His office performs 900 cataract surgeries per year, and the staff is trained to help patients understand their options.

No one has to get cataract surgery, noted Dr. Levinson, but it can greatly improve some patients’ quality of life.

Sixty percent of people above the age of 60 have at least one cataract — a hazing of the natural lens in the eye.

If the resulting blurred or decreased near and far vision (which some people say is like peering through a dirty windshield) or glare (for example, being blinded by oncoming headlights at night) become sufficiently disturbing, an eye surgeon can remove your cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial, corrective one.

In most cases, this is a fairly simple outpatient procedure that takes less than 30 minutes per eye and doesn’t require general anesthesia.

And the lenses tend to last a lifetime. But here’s the trickier part: There are three sorts of artificial lenses — and which you choose determines the kind of vision you will have after surgery.

It doesn’t matter how good your near or far vision is before surgery, because your eye lens is being replaced, so you have a choice to make about which kind of vision you’d prefer.

The good news is that your “new” vision will last forever, because unlike a natural lens, an artificial lens isn’t vulnerable to age-related vision changes.

    WHICH LENS TO CHOOSE?

If you want cataract surgery, make sure that your doctor offers these three lenses, said Dr. Levinson. Then discuss the pros and cons of each…

Monofocal lens. This is the most basic and most commonly used lens because it is covered by medical insurance.

It is a single-focus lens, meaning that it allows your eye to focus sharply either near or far — your choice.

So with this sort of lens, you can opt to improve distance vision only, which means that you will probably still need glasses for up-close vision…

or, if having sharp up-close vision without glasses is more important to you, you can have your eyes focused for near vision, but you’ll probably still need glasses for distance.

A third option: You could put a near-focused artificial lens in one eye and a distance-focused artificial lens in the other — then your brain can blend the two together to improve both your up-close and distance vision (but the experience can be annoying for some).

This is called monovision, but perfect 20/20 vision can’t usually be achieved. Also, monofocal lenses do not correct astigmatism.

So if you have a moderate or severe amount of astigmatism (usually due to an irregularly shaped cornea) before cataract surgery and choose a monofocal lens, you may still need to wear glasses after surgery — two pairs, one for distance and one for reading.

Toric lens. This lens is similar to the monofocal lens — the only difference is that it corrects astigmatism for one type of vision (distance or up-close). You’ll still need glasses — but only one pair, for the other type of vision that is not corrected.

This type of lens carries an additional out-of-pocket cost — typically about $750 to $1,500 per lens.

Multifocal lens. This is the most advanced type of lens — the design is only about 10 years old — and not all doctors offer it.

So if it interests you, be sure to ask about it. This lens corrects both up-close and distance vision (but does not correct astigmatism). Multifocal lenses work by splitting light entering the eye into a near and distance focus.

The brain then learns to interpret these images, creating the ability to see well at a distance and close.

The big advantage: Most people with the multifocal lens will not need glasses for most situations. But your eye has to be completely healthy for you to be a candidate — for instance, if you have macular degeneration, the lens won’t work properly.

And the surgery to implant a multifocal lens demands high precision — there is little room for error, or else your vision could end up blurry or with glare or halos —

so make sure you are choosing an experienced eye surgeon who is board-certified.

Also, ask how many surgeries he has performed and if you can speak to past patients. Insurance plans don’t cover these expensive lenses, which run about $2,500 per eye. If your vision does end up blurry and it bothers you, you can have laser vision-correcting surgery or wear glasses or contacts.

Bottom line: Cataract surgery can leave you very happy with your vision… but for the best chance of that, you’ve got to really talk thoroughly to your doctor about the options that are open to you and the compromises that they involve.

This is one place where you do not want to be surprised!

Shannon O’Roark Griffin Why didn’t Shannon O’Roark Griffin target her husband rather than drive all that way to kill the woman?

I don’t get it — the person in the marriage who cheats is at fault, not the outsider!

    I agree.

  20. PCH Says:

Yeah, I would’ve saved my gas and just shot him…

  21. JM Says:

No matter WHO is at fault of being “unfaithful”, straying from a marriage..…..it cannot happen if the OTHER person simply refuses to allow it……

Women, get PROOF of a man’s marital status….…IF he’s married, back off. It’s just not worth it. Hurts TOO many people, ruins lives.

Find a single person. The world is full of potential partners/lovers. Hands-off those who have previously committed. If someone wants OUT……this is what Divorce is for. NOT murder.

  22. Uma Says:

I can understand why she shot the bitch. Contrary to the lie told by the mistress’s friend she had not cut off the relationship.

On the contrary she talked to the husband after the counseling sessions and said she was worth it. So he called the wife and said go ahead with the divorce. Read the Probable Cause statement.

Me, I would finished off the bastard before I went after the bitch. Then I would have put three right where she did in the bitch’s face.

Women should learn that there is a price to pay for fucking around with somebody else’s husband. Men are dogs by nature.

They will carry on the most fateful act while carrying on in you home behind your back. They are just dogs. Women on the other hand are human beings and should be held to a different standard but only by other human beings.

Men have no right to expect anything from a woman since they treat us as if they are our masters. We can’t legally take a shit without them having some law governing it.

But women should be aware that another woman can hold her to a different standard. She should not knowingly encourage a dog to sniff behind her.

If she does and a WOMAN decides to off her ass, then she should take it like the bitch she became for the dog.

I’m not ashamed to admit I am serving time for killing my husband and making the bitch I caught him with a vegetable. I’d do it again but differently. I would plan it so I didn’t get caught.

My advice is make a plan and work your plan. Why do jail time for the cads.

    Uma

  23. Brenda Says:

I agree she should have shot the cheating husband and then the mistress.

  24. Anonymous Says:

Women, I can’t stress this enough; if your husband is cheating, let him go. The mistress is doing you a favor.

  25. Alycedale Says:

Exactly my point, Brenda. Why shoot the mistress without taking care of the dog first? She should have put two in his belly, one in the groin and let him bleed out while she went to take care of the mistress.

    Just joking!

She should have paid to have it done when she had an airtight alibi. No man is worth doing a day of jail time for.

If you are too mad to think straight, seek counseling. Call a professional, a friend, anybody who can talk you down until you can think straight.

Then you can plan the deed with the intent of getting away with it.

Look for more white faces on Guam. The Russians are coming. Me, I say bring your money, enjoy your stay, then take your white asses back home.
====================MOSCOW — As a part of the “reset” in relations between Washington and Moscow, the U.S. Embassy on Thursday said Russian citizens are now welcome to travel to the U.S. for up to 45 days without a visa — but only in the remote Pacific Ocean.

Starting immediately, Russians can go to the U.S. territories of Guam or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands for business or pleasure without a visa, but not to gain local employment or labor for hire.

Guam is 5,800 miles from San Francisco and 6,100 miles from Los Angeles, but only about 2,200 miles from Russia’s Pacific port city of Vladivostok.

“While this decision is not directly connected to the pending visa agreement between Russia and the United States, it is another example of our continued mutual efforts to facilitate travel and establish stronger ties between our two countries,” the embassy said in a statement.

Wanna bet you won’t hear whites complaining on the mainland about these white visitors coming and staying.

    HOW DANGEROUS IS CHARRED MEAT?

We Americans love our grilled meat, fish and poultry, whether from the backyard or in a restaurant — especially those blackened morsels on the edges of, say, a sizzling burger or barbecued ribs.

In fact, we continue to eat our grilled meat even though it was discovered over the past two decades that charring meat produces distinctive chemicals that may raise our risk for colon, prostate or breast cancer.

That’s love, folks! But now a study shows that this cancer risk may be even higher than we thought… maybe high enough to finally take the sizzle out of our grilling habit. Let’s see…

WHAT THE NEW GRILLING STUDY FOUND

Researchers from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health were concerned that previous studies on charred foods could be misleading because the kind of mice used in the studies do not metabolize the potentially dangerous substances in the same way that humans do.

To correct this problem, researchers genetically engineered a group of mice to more closely mimic a human’s metabolism.

(In particular, these mice were bred to have enzymes called sulfotransferases spread more widely within the digestive system, like humans have.)

Next, researchers injected a group of engineered mice and a control group of typical mice with a carcinogenic chemical called PhIP, which is formed in charred meats cooked at high temperatures — and the findings were dismaying.

After 16 weeks, 31% of the typical mice had cancerous intestinal tumors — but in the engineered set, a whopping 80% did!

In other words, the study concluded, humans may be more sensitive to the carcinogens found in charred meat than we previously thought.

    AN EXPERT WEIGHS IN

To get perspective on the study, which was published in the October 17, 2011 issue of Molecular Carcinogenesis, I called molecular toxicologist Robert J. Turesky, PhD, research investigator at the Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health, in Albany.

Dr. Turesky said that the study was interesting, but he thought that it is tenuous at best to extrapolate its findings to human risk. Among his reasons…

The dosage of PhIP given to the animals was massive. Dr. Turesky said that it was “a million-fold, if not more” than humans would ever ingest per day.

The mice received a PhIP compound that was not the natural form present in charred meat, but rather a synthetic chemical that is based on it.

The researchers injected the chemical directly under the skin of the mice, which meant that the animals absorbed all of the chemical.

When humans ingest PhIP, it is just one element in a complex mixture of many other chemicals, all of which influence how the body metabolizes and responds to compounds in foods — so humans don’t usually absorb 100% of PhIP.

The injections were given to pregnant female mice just before they gave birth and then to those baby mice in the weeks shortly after their birth — times when the mice were particularly sensitive to carcinogenic chemicals.

    SHOULD WE WORRY MORE?

You may be wondering why the researchers “stacked the deck” so much in the way they designed the study — but in fact, there was a good reason for what they did.

Their goal was to see whether they were right to be concerned that the sort of laboratory mice commonly used for toxicological research (as opposed to their mice engineered to be more like humans) could have skewed the results of previous studies.

In that goal, they seem to have succeeded — and now scientists are going to have to go back to their labs and design new studies with these and other animal models to see just how dangerous to us our beloved grilled meat really is.

Meanwhile, as Dr. Turesky noted, these results don’t mean that we should ignore the health issue altogether, because there is no doubt that charring meat can create human carcinogens.

However, there are ways to minimize the formation of these chemicals in foods when you grill…

Before grilling, marinate the food — even just 30 minutes is helpful — in marinades containing some combination of vinegar, lemon juice, tarragon, sage, mint and rosemary.

There has been some evidence that this reduces the formation of carcinogens when grilling, though the data is still inconclusive, said Dr. Turesky.

Flip meat on the grill frequently to minimize the burning of surfaces.

Avoid eating well-done meat. The longer the meat is on the grill, the higher the possibility that PhIP will form.

Eat lots of raw or lightly cooked vegetables with your meat.

There is some evidence that cruciferous vegetables in particular (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and others) are protective.

They may change the way the body metabolizes chemicals produced by grilling and therefore cancel out at least some of the negative health effects of ingesting PhIP from cooked meats.

Now that Dr. Turesky has pointed out some of the shortcomings of the most recent study, I admit that I feel a little relieved.

I know that frequently eating grilled meat isn’t the best dietary choice, but I’m not going to stop having the occasional grilled steak or chicken… and we’ll see what future research tells us.
