Monday Madness

Good morning!

My goal is to bring more joy and humor to my life. Perhaps that is your goal too. So it’s Monday – Let me help. I’ve been out all weekend at a 2-day summit where their was a lot or learning and a lot of laughter. I missed Jon Stewart this past week, perhaps you did too. I want to keep the laughter going – how about you?

Here’s a little recap of the show:

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes,Political Humor & Satire Blog,The Daily Show on Facebook

Readers: To me the news lately is just shocking. Did I say “lately”? It has been shocking always. We just get it faster and more of it. Between the hypocrisy, the lies, and the republicans trying to slip in between women’s thighs, when they haven’t been invited (That’s a nod to you ZL), one has to laugh or one could cry all day long and where would that get you? At least with laughter, it gives me a moment to pause with a smile so that I can continue to do what I do.

Dhuka: I am still reading up on the march in Damascus. How did it go from your perspective? I HOPE you are safe.

SD: I hear ya. It is tough but I give it a good effort. Unless I really need something and I can’t find it made anywhere else, and these days I rarely do, I do not buy the “made in China” label. I can honestly say that I do this 90% of the time. If people would get more conscious about labels, like they do the labels of food products, instead of giving in to their whims, we could have a huge impact.

MM: I am sorry, I never got your e-mail. Please try again.

Tom: Your nomination of Paul Babeu, Pinal County Sheriff to the LSOS Club is noted. Yes. the list is growing and it is not difficult to see why.

Oh Kelly: Your post made me laugh. So true..what is wrong with Democratic dick?! SantorumRomney…at some point the truth will be revealed.

Ethel: Love it. You know I’m in.

Al: Nicely said. With respect to the note of our furry friend…as usual your humor brings me a smile.

From The Desk Of Anonz: I live for the day when the news is good. But I also appreciate the information that you share. I HOPE you are enjoying the game. Be well.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

    Relaxing Treatment for Menopausal Symptoms

You probably know that yoga has been scientifically proven to ease many types of health problems, including muscle soreness.

A new study has discovered that yet another group of people might benefit from the calming practice—postmenopausal women who are suffering from common symptoms such as sleeplessness, stress and depression.

To find out more about how this natural therapy might help, I called the study author, Helena Hachul, MD, PhD, a gynecologist and a professor at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo and a researcher at the Sleep Institute in São Paulo, Brazil.

Her research is the first to look carefully at the effects of yoga on postmenopausal symptoms in a controlled and randomized study. It was published in the February 2012 issue of

    Menopause.

    SAY “OM”
Study participants were 44 women ages 50 to 65 years old. They all had experienced menopause (the one-year anniversary of their final periods), and all had been diagnosed with insomnia, were not using hormone replacement drugs and had never tried yoga.

Researchers recorded their sleep patterns before and at the end of the four-month study, and participants completed questionnaires on common complaints associated with menopause, including stress, depression, insomnia and overall quality of life.

During the study, the women were divided into three groups: A control group of 15 that wasn’t asked to do anything special…14 women who were stretched by a physical therapist twice a week for an hour…and 15 women who took yoga classes, also twice a week for an hour.

During the stretching sessions, a physical therapist stretched the same muscles that most yoga poses tend to stretch—the front and back of legs, the arms, hips, upper and lower back and chest. In the yoga group, the techniques used were poses based on Kundalini Yoga (Yoga of Awareness) that involves sequences of poses, deep breathing and meditation.

The results: The control group reported little difference at the end of the study, while the stretched group reported at least some improvements in all criteria.

However, only the yoga group’s end scores were significantly better than their starting scores. For example, they reported far less severity of insomnia (31%), depression (27%) and stress (36%), and they reported a 27% increase in their quality of life, compared with when they began.

    WHAT IS IT ABOUT YOGA?
    W
hen I asked why yoga showed the most significant results, compared with the stretching and the control groups, Dr. Hachul told me that the main difference is yoga’s emphasis on awareness.

Yoga is more effective at easing multiple types of menopausal symptoms, she said, because it calms your body and your mind by forcing you to focus on your pose and your breath and therefore forget about whatever physical or mental pain you’re experiencing.

Another theory is that yoga is more of a true exercise than merely stretching, as it improves stamina, strength and overall fitness.

What’s especially interesting is that the positive effects that yoga had in the moment appeared to carry over into everyday life, even when the women weren’t performing the exercises and meditations.

It’s easy and inexpensive to try a yoga class or two, and if you can’t find any beginner’s classes in your area that focus on Kundalini yoga (DVDs are sold online), Dr. Hachul said, it makes sense to start with Hatha yoga, a widely available type that is also performed at a slow, easy pace.

Your goal, she said, is to work your way up to practicing yoga at least three times a week for at least 30 minutes at a time.

Some women suffer from menopausal symptoms long after menopause. If something as simple as yoga can bring relief, and with no dangerous side effects, it’s a godsend—and that’s not a stretch!

  2. From the Desk of Anonz Says:

There is more oil in production in the US than any other time in its history. The problem is the republicans have worked with the gas companies to take many of their refineries off line to create an artificial shortage.

The companies can make more money selling the oil they claim they don’t have the ability to refine into gas to other countries and then buying it back as refined gas.

When the oil comes back as refined gas they can sell it at a much more hyped price.

So the shell game of pretending there is a shortage of oil, when they are artificially creating a shortage of gas by moving US oil out and bringing in back as gasoline to gouge the customer.

Add to that the manipulation of the stock market by the speculation on the future price of gasoline by controlling the supply.

The Koch brothers are one of the main players in this game.

There is a new scam on the island. People calling to steal your personal identification information.

The Guam attorney general’s office, is cautioning island residents against sharing their personal information to a phone caller pretending to be a jury duty coordinator.

The AG’s office called it “a new and frightening kind of fraud.”

“A caller claiming to be a jury duty coordinator will assert that you, the receiver, has failed to report for jury duty and there is a warrant out for your arrest,” according to the AG’s office statement, released over the weekend.

“Upon the receivers’ denial of having received jury duty summons, the caller then asks for personal information such as a Social Security number and date of birth so that they may verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant,” according to the AG’s office.

The jury unit of the Superior Court of Guam does not serve summons, and neither will it ask for confidential information, and clear arrest warrants over the phone, according to the AG’s office.

When an individual is selected for jury duty, a specific number is assigned. It is the only piece of information asked for during phone communication, according to the AG’s office.

The court does not place calls to jurors.

“Island residents must be wary of any deviation from this process when selected to do their civic duty,” said Attorney General Rapadas. “It is important to keep the integrity of jury selection so that when someone sits on jury, they have confidence in the system, functioning to serve justice for our island.”

    REPORT JURY DUTY SCAM
Anyone who is contacted by someone claiming to be a jury duty coordinator is asked to report it to: Bernie Alvarez, consumer advocate for the Office of the Attorney General by phone: 475-3324 ext. 171
    email: balvarez@guamattorneygeneral.com

    FOR MORE INFORMATION
Residents may also call the Superior Court Jury Unit at 475-3440 to clarify any questions concerning the juror selection process.

  4. Dhuka Says:

I am safe. But those in Homs are in terrible hopelessness. Assad has sent more military there to kill all resistance.

We in Damascus are being chased, kidnapped, tortured, and killed by what we call corner boys. ‘They are paid to beat up any one in their area.

We will remember who they are. When the time comes for Assad, they will be remembered for their cruelty and it will be returned in tenfold.

Speculators with a political agenda, the ultimate PAC. This is how the banks intend to tear down Obama. Time to send to regulators loose with those wiretaps in the name of national security. Trace the money.

  9. NW Says:

All that Western sanctions have done is drive Iran into the willing arms of China, a nation that is quite comfortable investing in the pariah nations of the world. Here is an article that shows how China is investing tens of billions of dollars in Iran’s massive oil and natural gas reserves at the expense of developed nations:

    http://viableopposition.blogspot.com/2011/12/iran-oil-giant.html

Iran will still be able to sell huge volumes of both commodities to China (and India) and, more importantly, it is these two nations that will be the drivers of the world’s economy in the coming decades.

  10. JJ Says:

US Refiners ideling their operations has nothing to do with the price?? Right? Corporations are people..

HOVENSA announced earlier this month that it would shut down its St. Croix refinery in the Virgin Islands. Sunoco and ConocoPhillips have already announced plans to idle two refineries in the Delaware Valley.

Sunoco said it could decide to idle another refinery in the East Coast by mid-2012. The Department of Energy said those closures could “cut as much as 50 percent of current East Coast refining capacity.”
