The Road We’ve Traveled

Good morning!
For those of you who need to be reminded just how much President Obama has done for this country, and it seems the GOP is doing their best to make you forget, here is a 17 minute video by Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim.
For those who don’t need reminding, you’ll enjoy this as well. I certainly did. Last night there was over 300 screenings across the country. Election time is here – this is a great tool to use when canvassing in this very important election that will be here sooner than we know. Interested? Plan an event and show the video.
All I can say is I am getting very excited….and I’ll echo the words of Tom Hanks, “…let’s remember how far we’ve come and look forward to the work still to be done.”
Remember how far we’ve come. From Academy Award®-winning director Davis Guggenheim: “The Road We’ve Traveled”.
This film gives an inside look at some of the tough calls President Obama made to get our country back on track. Featuring interviews from President Bill Clinton, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Elizabeth Warren, David Axelrod, Austan Goolsbee, and more. It’s a film everyone should see.
Obama Campaign Releases 17-Minute Ad: “The Road We’ve Traveled”
CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jessica Yellin, CNN White House Producer Adam Aigner-Treworgy
Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign unveiled Thursday a 17-minute long video painting a glowing portrait of the President’s first three years in office. The theme: President Obama inherited one of the worst financial meltdowns in history and, despite the odds, improved the economic picture while racking up accomplishments that should make key Democratic constituencies happy.
The video, narrated by Tom Hanks, features interviews with former President Bill Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, former Senior White House Adviser David Axelrod and former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, among others. Academy Award winner David Guggenheim directed the spot.
Watch the video here.
The ad’s overarching theme is that the President made tough decisions based not on political expedience but instead for enduring change, but that he has more work to do. The message seems geared more toward base voters who are already inclined to support him, not toward swaying the undecided.
The video, called “The Road We’ve Traveled,” begins with dire descriptions of the state of the U.S. economy immediately following President Obama’s election. Axelrod describes a post-election briefing this way: “There was a screen set up for slides, but we might as well have been showing a horror movie because what was described in that meeting was an economic crisis beyond what anybody had imagined.”
Emanuel says in the film: “You had people telling you that the auto industry was literally days from collapse. The financial sector – kind of the heart that pumps blood into the economy – was frozen up in cardiac arrest.”
Narrator Tom Hanks then weighs in: “Not since the days of Franklin Roosevelt had so much fallen on the shoulders of one President.”
The ad, which the campaign refers to as a documentary, reminds viewers that the Recovery Act gave middle class voters a tax cut, funded job training programs and helped pay the salaries for police, first responders and teachers.
A significant portion of the video focuses on the decision to bail out the now-recovered American auto industry, making the case that the President’s choice to fund a second round of bailouts was fraught with risk.
Former consumer advocate and Assistant to the President Elizabeth Warren, now running for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, is featured saying, “If he fails to invest in the auto industry it implodes, the economy goes down and blood is on his hands. The President invests and the auto industry just can’t pull out? That’s on the President’s hands as well.”
There’s a reminder that the George W. Bush administration invested $13 billion in Detroit and that Mitt Romney penned an op-ed entitled “Let Detroit go Bankrupt.” In the words of former President Clinton, “He didn’t just give the car companies the money and he didn’t give the UAW the money. He said, ‘You guys gotta work together and everybody’s gotta have some skin in the game here.’”
The narrator concludes, “Because of the tough choices the President made the stage was set for a resurgent auto industry.”
Despite the controversy over health care reform, the campaign’s video doesn’t shy away from presenting it as a major accomplishment. This section includes the only appearance by first lady Michelle President Obama. In explaining why the President wouldn’t back down when it looked like the Affordable Care Act would fail, she said that he was encouraged by the memory of his mother, whose death from ovarian cancer was complicated by inconsistent health insurance.
Bill Clinton describes health care as a “huge economic issue,” and narrator Hanks says of the President, “He knew he couldn’t fix the economy if he didn’t fix health care. He wanted to bring Washington together to face the tough decisions but he faced an opposition hostile to compromise.”
The section ends with the passage of President Obama’s signature health care reform law, but the ad later comes back to health care, with the message that more Americans now have coverage because of the legislation.
The most dramatic portion of the documentary deals with the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound. It features nighttime video of military helicopters and familiar images of the President and his team before and during the operation.
Here, President Obama is featured saying, “A lot of people have asked, ‘How did you feel when you first heard that it was Bin Laden and he’d been killed?’ And truth is I didn’t have time for a lot of feelings at that point because our guys were still in that compound. And it wasn’t until I knew they were across the border – they were safe, everybody was an accounted for, including the dog – that I allowed some satisfaction.”
For dramatic measure the narrator adds, “It was the ultimate test of leadership. A victory for our nation. And there would be many others.”
Reminding viewers that the President ran on the promise to end the war in Iraq, the ad shows images of the President welcoming home returning troops. Hanks succinctly describes it as “a promise kept.”
From here the video offers something for just about every Democratic interest group. There are reminders that health care reform expanded coverage to young adults and women with children. For the green energy crowd, he signed into law new mileage standards for vehicles. For young voters, he reformed student loan programs. For gays and lesbians, he ended Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. For women, he signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and nominated two women to the Supreme Court. And the campaign’s closing message on the economy makes the case that the jobs picture is improving and Detroit is now booming.
The President Obama campaign is screening the video Thursday at more than 300 locations across the country, according to a campaign spokesperson. Axelrod, now a senior strategist on President Obama’s reelection campaign, will conduct a question and answer session online following the screenings. The ad also streamed live on the campaign’s website at 8 p.m. Thursday night

Zen Lill I liked your link to http://www.jacquelinehellyer.com/_blog/The_Tantra_Fusion_Blog/post/Female_Bodies_Are_Sexual_Pleasure_Machines/
Great read but this should be corrected by the author. It is probably a typo but if not it kills the entire concept for me. I am referring to the this paragraph by Jacqueline Hellyer.
=====================
There is nothing a man likes more than to give his women this level of sexual pleasure. It satisfies him to his very core. It makes him feel like a Real Man. He may not be able to experience the level of feeling that she can, but he can feel fantastic for getting her there.
==============================
I would have liked it better if it had read – There is nothing a man likes more than to give his WOMAN this level of sexual pleasure. — After all this was an article about the discovery of the woman’s body, and any experienced woman knows that no man can satisfy woman in the plural the way a woman can satisfy a man in the plural.
And the implication that women should accept the concept that a man should be pleased with “his women” in any capacity sexually is a slap to women in general.
Hence that sentence should have been written to read –There is nothing a man likes more than to give his womAn this level of sexual pleasure.– Yes, I can get in front of that.

Having Trouble Driving at Night? 10 Ways to See Better
Fatal car crashes are three times more likely at night than during the day, per mile driven.
The dark makes it more difficult to spot trouble on the road, and the late hour makes it more likely that we share the road with drunk or drowsy drivers.
Older drivers in particular often have trouble at night. Our eyes’ ability to see in limited light declines steadily starting in our 30s.
This happens so gradually that many older drivers don’t realize how much night vision they have lost.
Fortunately, minor adjustments to our driving habits and vehicles can make a major difference in our nighttime driving risks…
NIGHT-DRIVING STRATEGIES
Five things drivers can do to see and drive better at night…
Shift your gaze down and to the right to avoid being blinded by approaching headlights.
Use the edge of the road or the line marking the outside of your lane as a reference point until the headlights have passed.
If you are blinded by oncoming headlights, drive conservatively until your eyes readjust to low light—that typically takes around six seconds—but resist the urge to brake if there are cars close behind you.
The drivers behind you might have been temporarily blinded by the oncoming headlights, too, and not notice that you’ve slowed.
Increase your following distance. In clear daytime conditions, three seconds is considered a safe following distance—pick a fixed object along the roadside and count off the seconds from when the car in front of you passes it until you do.
At night, five or six seconds is more appropriate, since, among other things, our reaction times are slowed if we’re drowsy.
Check your mirrors frequently. This increases your awareness of what’s happening outside the beams of light cast by your headlights. It also keeps your mind active and attentive while you are driving.
Also: Avoid using cruise control after dark, and alter your speed periodically. This, too, keeps the brain more engaged, combating drowsiness.
Tap your brakes a few times before stopping if there are cars behind you. This makes your brake lights flash—and flashing lights grab the attention of drowsy or drunk drivers much better than steady lights.
Also: Use your blinkers well before you slow to turn. Use your hazard lights if you must stop on the side of a dark road.
If you wear glasses, choose ones that have an antireflective (AR) coating. This clear coating cuts down on lens glare, improving your ability to see at night despite oncoming headlights.
AUTOMOTIVE ADJUSTMENTS
Five ways to prep your car for safer night driving…
Adjust your side mirrors so that you can almost, but not quite, see the outside of your own car in them.
Most drivers angle their side mirrors a bit too far to the inside, which allows the headlights of vehicles behind them to reflect into their eyes, reducing their night vision.
Side mirrors angled too far inside also increase drivers’ “blind spots” behind and to the side of the car at night and during the day.
Also, don’t forget to switch your center rearview mirror to its night setting after dark to avoid headlights reflecting into your eyes.
If your car has a self-dimming rearview mirror, double-check to make sure this function is turned on and working.
Clean your windshield, windows, headlights and taillights frequently. Windshield and window smudges and grime that are barely noticeable during the day can cause tremendous glare when hit by other vehicles’ headlights at night.
Remember to clean the inside of the glass, not just the outside.
Dirt also builds up on headlights and taillights, dramatically reducing their brightness over time.
Consider installing enhanced replacement headlight bulbs on your car. These may help you see more of the road ahead for perhaps just $10 or $20 extra per bulb.
Dim your interior gauges slightly. The glow from a bright dashboard can detract from your eyes’ ability to see outside the vehicle at night.
Turn gauge brightness down a bit, even if this means that you must strain a little to read the gauges—seeing what’s outside your car is more important than reading dashboard gauges.
Also, don’t allow any passengers to have lights on inside the car when you’re driving.
Turn on your headlights at dusk, or use them all the time. Headlights won’t provide much help seeing the road until it’s quite dark—but they do help other drivers see you at all hours, which reduces the odds of collisions.
Using your high-beam headlights can further improve your vision at night. Just be sure to dim them when you detect another vehicle, either coming toward you or traveling ahead of you in the same direction.

Investing in Our Infrastructure, Fighting for Our Fair Share
March 16, 2012
Investing in Our Infrastructure
On Wednesday, the Senate passed a bipartisan transportation bill by a vote of 74 – 22 to create jobs, invest in road, rail, transit, and highway construction, rebuild our infrastructure, and strengthen our economy.
Now, House Republicans must end their efforts to put forth a partisan bill that destroys half a million jobs, cuts highway investments in 45 states, bankrupts the Highway Trust Fund, and weakens our economy.
We must pursue a different path – the bipartisan path of sending the Senate bill to the President – to make the investments necessary to strengthen our economy and our middle class, create jobs, and rebuild America.
My Democratic colleagues and I are committed to reigniting the American Dream and rebuilding the pillars of America that have made our economy strong: small businesses, entrepreneurs, and an all-inclusive and thriving middle class. Congress must take action to create good-paying jobs and aid our economic recovery.
Fighting for Our Fair Share
As our nation’s hub for innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, a center for international commerce, trade and finance, and the home to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Bay Area is one of our nation’s at-risk regions and, as such, deserves the appropriate investment of federal resources to ensure our region’s security and the safety of our citizens.
That is why I recently wrote a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, expressing concern over a disproportionate proposed reduction in preparedness funding to the San Francisco Bay Area.
These critical funds, which enable our region to stand prepared to effectively respond to a disaster or emergency, were slashed by 38.3 percent, from $42.8 million to $26.4 million.

President Announces San Franciscan to Lead AIDS Policy
The announcement by President Obama this week that Dr. Grant Colfax will serve as the New Director of President Obama’s Office of National AIDS Policy brings enormous pride to many San Franciscans and prestige to our city’s efforts to increase prevention, ensure treatment, and support research.
As Director of the HIV Prevention Section in the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Dr. Colfax has been essential in ensuring a decline in new HIV infections.
With experience as a health care practitioner, researcher, and public policy thinker, Dr. Colfax is uniquely suited to lead the lifesaving efforts of the Office of National AIDS Policy.
He has pioneered groundbreaking, evidence-based prevention strategies, such as monitoring and mapping ‘community viral load’ for decreasing new HIV infections.
San Francisco’s model of care for HIV/AIDS has become the national standard, and today, with the appointment of Dr. Grant Colfax, President Obama has recognized our efforts.

Happy Friday to all of you, and here’s to a great weekend ahead. We’ve got an exclusive with Sen. John Hoeven of North Dakota, who has been one of the Republicans at the forefront of the Keystone pipeline controversy in the Senate. As Audrey Hudson reported last week, an amendment from Sen. Hoeven was defeated in the Senate that would have overturned the president’s decision to block construction of the pipeline. The president did some hard lobbying to ensure the amendment’s defeat, signaling yet again that this president is playing politics at the expense of the American worker. But today, Hoeven explains that his legislation addressed all of the president’s original concern with the project, and Obama still lobbied against it. Just another instance of Washington not working for us, but against us.
If you are new to Daily Events, you probably haven’t seen our contributor James Edwards. He is our immigration expert and has a wonderful piece today analyzing the administration’s budget cuts in immigration enforcement. They are dangerous and pose a security threat.
Audrey Hudson has been following the jobs bill from start to finish, but today a new wrinkle is coming to light. Senate Democrats are hoping to drive a wedge between Capitol Hill Republicans by attaching a contentious measure to reauthorize the Export-Import (ExIm) Bank to the bill that passed in the House last week. Don’t miss the story below.
Our columnists have several great pieces today, ranging from Patrick J. Buchanan’s commentary on the Rush Limbaugh controversy, and Michelle Malkin is uncovering the myth of ‘middle-class’ Joe Biden.
Also — don’t forget next week’s election coverage of the Illinois primary. John Gizzi will be showcasing several House races from the Illini state that are pitting conservatives v. conservatives, and John Hayward follows the presidential primary. Will Mitt Romney win Illinois or will Rick Santorum put another wrench in to this muddled primary? Stay tuned to HUMAN EVENTS beginning Monday.
Have a great weekend!

Hey, whatever happened to that “if you don’t support the president, you you should still respect the office.” talk we used to have?
Does that only apply to White presidents?
March 16th, 2012 at 6:15 pm
I realize that not all white people are racists and filled with hate for black people.
It really is sad that the election of a president whose father was a black man has brought out the hatred and evilness of the days of slavery and the years of fighting for civil rights for all non-whites.
This country has really shown its true colors during the presidency of Barack Obama.

Something is VERY wrong when a “statesman” , and I use the term loosely, thinks it appropriate to act like a jerk! Something is VERY wrong when the “governor” is regarded in the same company as the likes of Snookie, the Sopranos, Beavis & Butthead and other ignoramuses. There is Something VERY wrong when the “governor” is proud and unapologetic of such behavior or not ashamed of being regarded in such company… How dare him suggest that because he is “governor” he can say what he wants and deserves some respect. He has forgotten the cardinal rule, You have to give respect to EARN it! No title simply warrants it…
Just wondering in what regard does he hold his status as “governor” when he is being a loud, obnoxious BULLY and our children are watching. Does it matter then that he is GOVERNOR??? Does he consider then that he be respected as a role model, not to mention FATHER, or is he just GOVERNOR with no such responsibility nor accountability? I’m Just Wonderin’…
Christie is INCORRIGIBLE! He makes me embarrassed to be a Jersey Girl and ashamed that he confirms EVERY negative NJ stereotype. Governor? Really???
For the record, I, too, am a Rutgers Camden Law School graduate and opposed to the hostile takeover. I am convinced however, that the more we push we back, the more he is energized to move forward and force his will. Because that’s what BULLIES & “Tough Guys” do!
Thank You Mr. Brown!!!

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON — National Zoo officials say two rare Guam rail chicks have hatched there. The birds are extinct in the wild.
The small, flightless birds hatched March 3 and 4. The total population of the birds is now 162.
In several weeks, zookeepers will perform routine medical exams and take feather samples to determine the birds’ sexes.
Eighty-two chicks have hatched at the zoo and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Va. Some have been sent to Guam for release and breeding.
Guam rails were plentiful on the island until the brown tree snake arrived in military equipment shipped from New Guinea after World War II. The snakes had no natural predators and hunted the Guam rails and eight other bird species to the brink of extinct

I’m sure that women’s access to family planning in Texas has no effect on the Governor because it wont hurt women that are successful enough to carry their own private insurance.
Just another example of Republican politics at its worst.
Women in Texas need to unite and stand up for their rights.

Never in a million years did I ever imagine by this year 2012 that women’s issues would go backwards just because of religion. I thought religion would help humanity today but instead I’m reminded of the crusades.

Women from Texas should start protesting or do whatever it takes to get those services back!. I Seriously dont understand the GOP!
They dont offer any solutions for the health care crisis and now they want to take away services that many women use since they dont have healthcare.
What are we? A third world country? If this is not a war against women then what should we call it???
My point is if they are taking these services now what would it be next?

The more I read these comments the more scared I am for our country. God will surely abandon us.
What would we do if not for a man like Perry who is fearless in the face of the relentless attacks by the dems and harlots.
Gov. Perry you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

It was the Dems who cut off the funding for political reasons. All Texas did was use hospitals instead of Planned Parenthood. That was enough for the Dems to cut funding. Texas hasn’t denied anyone the care they need.

Although there is nothing worse than an elected official trying to impose his version of religion on everyone. In this case it is easy to fix. But it won’t be.
White women in Texas are like white women everywhere else in the US. They are basically children with adult tits and asses. My experiences are you can tell the dumb bitches anything and spread their legs.
I used to think the nigs and spicks were dumb, but most of them have wised up. But our white bitches have gotten dumber.
I see no reason why we shouldn’t continue using religion to fuck their tiny minds up when we aren’t fucking them elsewhere.
Now, I know that you women of Michelle’s blog are going to be tempted to rant at me. But I would look out my window first.
Yes, take a look into the real world.
Because we both know that if I were running for political office, those of you not ranting at me would be out campaigning for me or lining up to vote for me come election time.
So don’t waste your time ranting at me get off your asses and convince your mentally retarded sisters to vote their own interests.
Of course you will have to TELL them what that is better than we males do or they won’t know. Like I said spread’em and fuck’em. Basically what white women have legs for. Why God gave them a head, who knows, the only useful item on it is that mouth and tongue.
When it isn’t giving head or licking my ass what comes out of it is just shit. Probably why they have shit for brains.

The crazies seem to have a following just as the candidates have a following even Rush has his followers.Just as long as the following stays in select groups then it is just the old saying.
“It takes all kinds”. In other words as long as the sane outnumber the crazies then let them live in there world. Remember America is the land of the free.
Of course if the sane ones don’t get out and vote then that will pretty well let us know which side of the fence we end up on.

Touch Here for Persistent Back Pain
“Oh, my aching back!”
If you have ever uttered this common lament—or ever feel tempted to in the future—you will want to know about the surprising results of a recent study.
Participants included 401 patients, mostly middle-aged women, who had been suffering for at least three months from chronic low-back pain with no identified cause.
Patients were randomly assigned to receive either “usual care” (the standard treatment doctors typically recommend, including painkillers, anti-inflammatories and/or muscle relaxants) or hour-long massages once per week for 10 weeks.
Massage recipients got either the commonly available relaxation massage (also called Swedish massage), which aims to produce an overall sense of relaxation…or structural massage, which uses specialized techniques to alleviate musculoskeletal problems that can contribute to back pain (for instance, by lengthening constricted muscles and mobilizing restricted joints).
Results: After 10 weeks, 36% to 39% of patients in the massage groups reported that their back pain was “much better or gone,” versus only 4% of patients in the usual-care group.
Also, massaged patients reported spending fewer days in bed, being more active and using less medication than usual-care patients.
Surprising: Contrary to expectations, researchers found that relaxation massage was just as effective as the more specialized structural massage at relieving pain and improving patients’ ability to function normally.
While the benefits of massage began to decrease after treatment ended, improvement was still evident six months later.
Bottom line: Massage is a generally safe therapy that can be used alone or as a supplement to other treatments for chronic low-back pain.
Though relaxation massage typically is not covered by health insurance, some policies do cover structural massage, which is considered similar to physical therapy.
Source: Daniel C. Cherkin, PhD, is a senior investigator at Group Health Research Institute in Seattle and lead author of a study on lower back pain and massage published in Annals of Internal Medicine.

Believing in God is one thing. Believing that he has a special plan for you is a whole other level of vanity.
How can anyone really think there is some creator so fascinated about the goings on of these clowns?
I will never trust anyone that says they were chosen by God.
