Michelle Jenneke: Australian hurdler
Posted by Michelle Moquin on July 21st, 2012
Good morning!
Today, I’m going to keep it light and fun. I’m just in that kind of mood.
A source sent me this write. And the video…well the video is a fun watch. It will put a smile on your face as it did mine. This girl is awesome at her talent, blows past the competition, and is just too cute for words.
Michelle Jenneke, Dancing Australian Hurdler, Wins World Junior Championship 100-Meter Heat (VIDEO) (UPDATED)
Michelle Jenneke, a young Australian hurdler, is taking the Internet by storm with her performance during the IAAF World Junior Championship last weekend in Barcelona.
But while she completely dominated her first women’s 100-meter hurdle heat (and placed fifth in the final), it’s Jenneke’s warm up dance that’s making her famous around the Web.
According to Bleacher Report, the sports blog With Leather originally posted raw, live-stream footage of the 19-year-old’s pre-race routine, but it was taken down and replaced with an “overt celebration of Jenneke and her dancing and running presented in gratuitous slow motion, and with an awful song over it.”
With Leather was rather unapologetic about sexualizing Jenneke’s warm-up dance, releasing its own super slow-motion cut.
USA Today took a more sedate angle on what it called Jenneke’s “unique way of stretching,” writing, “You have to appreciate anyone who enjoys themselves this much.”
Update:
Jenneke’s fame continues to spread, and the Australian media aren’t holding back on her routine, calling the teenager’s warm-up “sexy” and claiming that she’s “set hearts ablaze.”
“Fans are confident this is only the beginning, and expect to see the [Jenneke] wiggling — and racing — at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016,” Sky Newsreported.
Australian news also added details about the track starlet’s personal life. According to News.co.au, Jenneke is a Sydney-area native from the northwest suburb of Kenthurst. Apart from hurdling, her hobbies include Australian football, soccer, handball and taking care of her pet cats and dogs.
“As far back as she can remember, [Jenneke] has had a passion for hurdling, even lining up teddy bears for jumping practice at her parent’s home when she was very young,” the News Limited wrote.
Jenneke will not compete in the London Olympics this year, but the sexualization of female athletes in the media has been a widely discussed topic surrounding the 2012 games. On the other hand, there has also been coverage that celebrates the power of female athletes.

Readers: I think this girl just loves what she does and is no doubt having some fun.
Howie: I realize that I have not been commenting on the tales of Tsarme/Tsarmi, but I have been reading and I have to say that it is quite amazing. I HOPE that the healing process is going well and that the aliens come together on this and return Tsarme to Earth for his protection. I can’t imagine what his mother Uyber must be going though.
PS: I also enjoyed the story of the little blueberry sized crabs. The visual is fantastic – the story fascinating. Thanks for sharing both.
Before I sign off, I want to first say how deeply sorry I am for the two boys lives taken in Chicago, and the 17 people + the many hurt in Aurora, Colorado. My heart goes out to the families and friends affected. This is just crazy that this is kind of thing is happening in this world.
Peace & Love…where was it in Aurora? Spread it today wherever you are.
Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.
Gratefully your blog host,

Stop Driving Drowsy! How to Stay Awake at the Wheel
The last thing Willa remembers is yawning hugely, blinking hard to focus her gaze and thinking, “It’s just after midnight. In 15 minutes, I’ll pull over, wake my husband and let him drive the rest of the way home.” Then she must have dozed off, because at 12:05 her van bashed against the highway guardrail and her terrified kids started screaming.
No one was badly hurt, thank goodness, but it was a bad end to a family vacation. My friend Willa, having learned her lesson that scary night, was never again tempted to keep driving when she was fighting sleep.
Unfortunately, a whole lot of people have not learned that lesson. In a recent AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety survey, nearly one-third of participants admitted that, just within the previous month, they had driven when they were so sleepy that they could barely keep their eyes open!
In fact, AAA says, one out of every six deadly crashes involves a drowsy driver. Bad news for women: In comparable car crashes involving seat-belted motorists, female drivers are 47% more likely than male drivers to sustain severe injuries, according to a University of Virginia study.
With vacation season upon us, I asked William Van Tassel, PhD, manager of driver training programs at AAA’s national office in Heathrow, Florida, for suggestions on how to stay alert at the wheel.
His strategies…
Avoid driving at the times when drowsiness is most common. AAA reports a peak in drowsy-driving crashes between midnight and 6:00 am, when most of us are accustomed to sleeping.
What you may not know:
Reaction time and eye-hand coordination can become as badly impaired after 17 to 19 sleepless hours as when your blood-alcohol level is .05, which is almost the legal limit, Dr. Van Tassel noted.
Another surprise:
Drowsy-driving accidents also spike in the two hours after lunch. That’s because the body diverts blood toward the digestive tract, which leaves less invigorating oxygen for the brain…and our circadian rhythm naturally dips in the afternoon, triggering the urge to nap.
It may not be practical to swear off post-lunch driving altogether, but you can try to limit prolonged afternoon drives.
On long trips, stop the car every two hours or every 100 miles, even if you don’t feel drowsy, and walk around for five to 10 minutes. This increases blood flow, sending more oxygen to your brain and enhancing alertness.
If you start to feel sleepy and are less than an hour’s drive from your destination, you might consider trying what Dr. Van Tassel calls the “2 + 20” trick.
Pull over somewhere safe, take a double dose of caffeine (two cups of regular coffee or two cans of caffeinated diet cola, for example), then nap for 20 minutes.
While you snooze, your brain gets a bit of rest…and by the time you wake up, the caffeine will have entered your bloodstream and provided an energy boost.
Try this only if you have less than one hour left in your journey, because once the caffeine wears off, your drowsiness will likely be worse than before, Dr. Van Tassel cautioned.
And don’t go for a second round, as your body won’t fall for this trick twice without getting some real sleep in between.
Travel with a passenger—in AAA’s survey, this reduced the risk for drowsy driving-related crashes by nearly 50%.
Conversing with a passenger helps you stay awake…and you can share driving duties. Stagger your caffeine consumption so your companion starts to feel her energy burst and can take the wheel just as your caffeine buzz is waning.
Avoid sugary or fatty foods, as they can reduce a driver’s alertness, Dr. Van Tassel advised. (Personally, I find it helpful to munch on foods that keep my mouth busy and take a relatively long time to eat, such as carrots and celery sticks.)
Watch for warning signs of drowsiness. If you yawn repeatedly, bob your head, can’t keep your eyes focused, drift from your lane or fall into a momentary micro-sleep, do not tempt fate.
You’re lucky that you didn’t crash already! Pull over at the first safe spot and get some shut-eye. Yes, this will delay your arrival a bit—but better late than never.

He has published peer-reviewed articles in various journals relating to public health and safety. http://www.aaa.com

I love the way she gets into the state to compete, a little dancing goes a long way to leave any stress behind, she’s amazing : )!!
I have a word from Urban dictionary for you: Mittconceptions, and how about Mittperceptions, and if he’s the best the GOP can do I am going to feel free to use these words bc Mitt’s got several of each that are ludicrous, insane and the adjectives keep a comin’….
have a good weekend, I’m outta here, it’s gorgeous out there!

Mitt Romney has an equal chance of winning the White House without lying and taking Obama out of context, as he does surviving a skydiving jump without a parachute.
July 21st, 2012 at 12:56 pm
If I was Obama and Axerod, I would start a campaign of hating the rich, and business people who started their own businesses. That should get votes.

Michelle, that is one hot lady.

Michelle, the way I see it is this tragedy was due to the white boy having to be able to buy assault weapons.
Nothing else needs to be discussed until AR- 15 assault rifles are illegal for civilians to own. What are you going to hunt with it but human beings?
White america needs to grow up and recognize that those types of weapons are dangerous to the civilian population.

What Romney is doing is cementing in the minds of Americans that there are different rules for the incredibly wealthy than there are for the average working guy.
Who can connect to a message like that? How do we trust this man who says he wants to ‘FIX” our economy? Fix it for whom, himself and his billionaire friends or the rest of us who don’t earn $350,000 dollars a WEEK!
Just how does Romney plan on ‘Fixing It” he never gives us the details. How creative would Romney be as our President. Would Romney, as President, create more colorful loopholes for his banker friends, would he be a Sidney Pollack?
Painting a fascinating economic mess, up, down sideways, with many angles and colors? Just what is it? A big redhole were money flows to the wealthy via a tax portal loophole?
Could Romney’s economic masterpiece turn out to be as indescribable as Romney’s secretive tax records? Willard’s refusal to allow voters to see what are in his own finances places Romney on a Royal Thrown, high above all others, including his own father who released twelve years of tax return to the American people.
Romney deflects every question about his taxes and Bain by saying Obama has ruined the economy. But it is men like Romney who ruined the economy by skirting US tax laws and shipping jobs to China.

Until the myth that law abiding, stable citizens who are ‘responsible’ gunowners aren’t responsible for a significant number of the shootings in the US is directly and repeatedly attacked, the effort to reduce the number of those deaths by reducing the number of people armed with guns will fail.
And attacking that will involve tackling the ‘if they don’t have guns, those with murder in their hearts would find another weapon’ line, which relies on people not realizing that putting an easy to use weapon in the hands of someone who is feeling an impulse to commit an act of violence both increases the odds of that person acting on that impulse, and the act being lethal.

I think we need to have laws that let anyone who wants to carry a gun(openly or concealed) be allowed to do so.
Imagine how many lives would have been SAVED if everyone of age in that theater had been carrying.
A dark theater,a tear gas canister set off, nobody knowing who fired first and everybody wanting to be the one to kill the criminal. Just speculating !

If there were limits on political donations (thank you SCOTUS for your insipid decision allowing Citizens United), term limits to prevent year after year obligatory influence to doners, our representatives on both sides of the aisle could finally have an intelligent discussion.
Of course, that would eliminate the Bachman, and those who would share her warped views, from participating. We desperately need reasonable gun laws based on 2nd Amendment interpretation to 21st century realities without fearing NRA’s scandalous retribution.
We need to make the NRA less relevant and pass sane gun laws that serve to reassure our 80 million or so gun owners, that no one is threatening their right to posess firearms, like those used when Jefferson and company, wrote the 2nd Amendment.
Their guns were relevent at the time. That is what our forefathers had in mind, yes? It should be evidence enough to eliminate the NRA’s spewing its message of paranoia.
It’s unfortunate we have elected a group of scared individuals who lack the courage and belief systems to address the hypocrisy of the NRA.
As a thought, would Jesus be a member of the NRA?

It’s that kind of logic that needs to be watched. You have a very wild imagination,,, almost cartoonist… You don’t own a gun do you? I hope not.

Pump Up Your Protein with Quinoa
If you don’t know quinoa (keen-wah), you should. It is a seed that is widely regarded as a grain—and can be used in place of rice or oats in recipes.
It’s an excellent source of gluten-free fiber and a complete protein—one-quarter cup of uncooked quinoa has about six grams of protein, about as much as one egg.
Easy to prepare and digest, quinoa can be added to a range of recipes from pancakes to stews. Natural foods nutritionist Patti Tveit Milligan, RD, CNS, in Phoenix, who developed the delicious recipes below with Gregory Anne Cox, a chef in Hampton Bays, New York, shows us how to introduce quinoa into the kitchen! Many people love quinoa’s chewy texture the first time they try it.
But if you are still acquiring a taste for this remarkable seed, try mixing it with more familiar foods. Example: Add one or two tablespoons of uncooked quinoa to uncooked oatmeal or rice—and cook them together. Quinoa makes a great addition to homemade energy bars in place of oats.
QUINOA RECIPES
The following recipes demonstrate two ways to prepare quinoa as a side dish or as a main course.
Lime-Scented Quinoa with Black Beans, Tomato and Cilantro
Serves four as a main course
3 cups chicken or vegetable stock
1½ cups uncooked quinoa
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup fresh lime juice
¼ cup finely chopped cilantro or flat-leaf parsley
Salt and pepper to taste
Zest of one lime
1 Tablespoon hot sauce
1 15-oz can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup diced red or yellow tomatoes
1 cup diced red bell pepper
Bring stock to a boil, and add quinoa. Stir, and bring back to a simmer. Cover, and cook for 12 to 14 minutes or until the quinoa is fluffy and tender. Strain and let cool. In a small bowl, whisk the oil, lime juice, cilantro, salt and pepper, zest and hot sauce.
Place quinoa, beans tomatoes and red pepper in a medium bowl. Add the olive oil mixture, and toss. Suggestion: Serve with sautéed kale or spinach lightly tossed with olive oil and garlic.
Quinoa with Roasted Walnuts, Leeks and Apples
Serves four to six as a side dish
2 cups chicken or vegetable stock (Water may be used instead, but stock adds more flavor.)
1 cup uncooked quinoa
2 Tablespoons walnut oil
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 cup cleaned leeks, white part only, thinly sliced into half moons
1 cup chopped green or red apple with peel
½ cup chopped roasted walnuts
Salt and pepper to taste
Bring stock (or water) to a boil, and add quinoa. Stir, and bring to a simmer. Cover, and cook for 12 to 14 minutes or until the quinoa is fluffy and tender. Strain, and let cool. Heat a medium-sized sauté pan, and add the oils. When oil is fragrant, add leeks, apple and walnuts, and sauté until leeks are tender. Mix all ingredients. Can be served warm or chilled.
WHERE TO FIND QUINOA
Quinoa is available in the grain section of your grocery or health-food store. When you purchase prewashed quinoa, there is no need to rinse it, but when you buy quinoa in bulk, rinse it well and drain before using.
This rinsing removes a bitter taste associated with naturally occurring trace resins called saponins that coat unwashed quinoa.

When you watch the news you see the gun crazy folk making twisted claims to avoid admitting the obvious that this would never had happened if there were still on the books a law against purchasing assault weapons.
The NRA paid off politicians to vote that law down. So now anyone who wants to kill a large number of people in a short time(in this case he kill and injured all those people in less that 5 minutes.) need only walk into any store or go on line and buy a weapon that fires 200 plus rounds a minute and 6,000 rounds.

Those who are pro-gun should be really angry right now. Angry that someone just put another nail in the coffin of the right to bear arms.
Personally, I choose not to have a gun. There will never be a gun in my home. But those who do want to have the right to have a weapon need to look deeply into their hearts and think about all the accidental shootings (2-year old toddler shot himself in the head in Sandy, Utah), the elevated amount of mass shootings, and the shootings with illegally purchased guns/non-registered guns.
There is the argument of “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, which is true. But how do you prevent guns getting into the hands of children, the mentally unstable and lifelong thugs/criminals? That is the biggest part of the issue for me.
How do we keep guns out of the hands of those who aren’t RESPONSIBLE enough to use them?
Again, those who want the right to bear arms should be very angry about everything that is occurring that sabotages their right to have a gun. If you respond to my post, leave the “conceal/carry” argument out.
I want to hear what solutions you have about ensuring guns don’t get into the hands of children, the mentally ill and your common thug. What repercussions should occur when a baby can access a gun that should be UNLOADED AND LOCKED AWAY.
July 22nd, 2012 at 9:32 am
I agree with you Mary. It is obvious that if one can not buy a tank they can not blow up you house with a gun big enough to blow up you house.
We are not trying to outlaw guns. We just want to prevent a person from being able to kill a huge number of people with a single gun that allows that person to do it at an incredible pace.
This is not rocket science. No regular citizen needs to have the right to buy an assault rifle. And we need background checks on people who want to buy guns.
But mostly we need to get in the face of these tiny dick white boys and tell them that we will no longer accept the ludicrous claim that by not allowed them to purchase an assault rife that somehow our 2nd Amendment rights are being threatened.

Here in Virginia is a Senate race that could change the balance of power between the Reps and Dems in the White House.
Rep. George Allen and Dem. Tim Kaine are the players. White america is so caught up in race that they are willing to put Allen back into office because he is anti Obama the black man.
This white woman isn’t going to fall for that racist trash talk. I don’t feel better because I am white. It is so pathetic that white Virginians fall for that manipulative crap.
If we return those anti-Obama-at-all-cost republicans to the Senate we deserve what we get.

I’m no statistician, but
“The support for Kaine and Allen break down among highly polarized party lines: Republicans back Allen 92 percent to 4 percent, while Democrats back Kaine 87 percent to 5 percent.”
suggests that the man matters little in the race, and any two candidates with a “D” or “R” after their name would be doing about the same.

If you are an American patriot, you will want to vote Romney and the GOP. Instead of having Obama on his knees to Wall St. for another four years, Romney wil finish the job that Bush and Cheney started with a massive wealth redistribution from the working classes to the 1%.
By the end of four years of Romney, no sane American will ever want to see another Robber Baron in government. Only after the Romney disaster can we begin to take back our country from the bankers, Wall St. and the oil industry.
VOTE GOP and let’s get this over with.
July 22nd, 2012 at 11:55 am
diehard dem: In Virginia, Romney has closed in the past two months from 8 points behind to dead even, according to the poll quoted here.
This, despite Obama’s add blitz here and his recent appearance in Roanoke, which is not factored into this poll. He didn’t do himself any favors with that speech.
If Tim Kaine is planning on riding Obama’s coattails, he’d better think again. We’re trending toward Romney here, and you’re going to have to look elsewhere for comfort.
July 22nd, 2012 at 11:57 am
Yep, Obozo the Clown is just out to keep his gubbmint job.
July 22nd, 2012 at 11:59 am
Who are you and what country do you people live in? President Obama spent months drumming up support for his jobs bill then cut it up into pieces to find any parts that the Republican congress would actually pass.
The unemployment rate is as high as it is largely because congress simply refuses to pass legislation to do anything about it. Thank you hate mongers who are willing to throw your fellow citizens under the bus because of your dislike of the President.
A year or so ago unemployment was at the ugly level of 10% and the press was all agog about how the President could not get elected if it remained there. It didn’t. American automobile workers still have jobs.
Having just taken a driving vacation, I can tell you that some of our federal tax dollars are hard at work fixing roads and making bridges safe for automobile traffic.
Cuts in the federal budget have caused cuts in state budgets, since states have received a healthy portion of their money from the federal government since Nixon began “revenue sharing,” which then became block grants, etc.
Because of decreased state revenue, states then reduce the amount of money they give to localities. For example ask any local government how much ABC store revenue they received this year…or last.
Some of that money used to be returned to the localities but that faded away several years ago. All of this has resulted in decreased government spending which manifests in layoffs and decreased government hiring.
And the decrease in all US jobs since 2007 is almost exactly equal to the decrease in government jobs (those are teachers, firefighters, police, building inspectors, election officials), despite the fact that conservatives postulate that a decrease in government spending will somehow increase jobs.
Meanwhile, the jobs, jobs, jobs Congress votes again and again to repeal the Affordable Care Act and restrict abortion, because that is apparently how they plan to put Americans to work. Abortion inspectors perhaps?
July 22nd, 2012 at 12:01 pm
This is great news for us conservatives. We have the energy, time, and money to crush Obama and his minions.
You read it here first..Michelle. Obama and Kaine are going to lose big time in Virginia.
July 22nd, 2012 at 12:03 pm
Boy, Obama’s mother must have been pretty smart when she decided 50+ years ago to get the State of Hawaii to fake a birth certificate for her son, just in case he ran for President.

I don’t buy this poll. I was a pollster for over 5 years and I know how easy it is to skew a poll. It does not make sense that with all the heat Romney has been taking recently that Romney would be climbing in the polls. And like Judge Judy says “if it doesn’t make sense it is a lie.”
