Akin’s Spiritual Mentor

Good morning!

If you’ve been watching the news like I have, Akin seems to be getting his 15 minutes…and really more, whether he wants it or not. I found this article that tells the disgusting thoughts that go through the minds of some men.

Akin’s Spiritual Mentor: Women Occasionally Invite Rape, Victims Are ‘Hysterical’

By Zack Beauchamp on Aug 20, 2012 at 11:37 am

Reverend D. James Kennedy (Left) and Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO).

Rep. Todd Akin’s (R-MO) spiritual mentor Reverend D. James Kennedy harbored extreme and sometimes flatly misogynistic views about rape and abortion, according to a ThinkProgress review of Kennedy’s sermons on the topic. The Senate candidate, who set off a massive controversy by claimingthis weekend that victims of “legitimate rape” don’t get pregnant, has deep ties to Reverend Kennedy, having cited some of his sermons as key intellectual influences and having been namedin Kennedy’s book How Would Jesus Vote? as one of the Reverend’s “favorite statesman.”

Kennedy, who the Anti-Defamation League has termed a “Christian supremacist,” repeatedly railed against legalized abortion, calling it the “American Holocaust” and suggesting that it would lead inevitably to genocide in the United States. But Kennedy’s discussions of rape and abortion in particular betray extraordinarily disturbing views about rape victims:

1. Kennedy believed that rape victims who chose abortion are “hysterical.” In “Abortion: Myths and Realities,” Kennedy labels victims of rape who chose unsafe abortions when safer procedures are illegal “hysterical,” saying “We are told by some of the radical feminists that the women will become hysterical, that they will abort themselves with coat hanger.” Abortion rates are, in fact, higher in nations where the procedure is criminalized, and men describing women whose choices they disapprove of as “hysterical” has a storied sexist history.

2. Kennedy suggests rape victims can be responsible for being raped. In “Life: An Inalienable Right,” Kennedy expresses concern that rape victims who chose to get an abortion are occasionally responsible for their own rape, saying that “Even if they want to say the woman had some part in it—which in most cases they probably don’t—surely the baby did nothing wrong, so the only innocent party is killed and the rapist often goes free.” He doesn’t elaborate on how this might be true, but another Kennedy sermon says “the immodest woman is contributing to the lust of other people” by wearing revealing clothing.

3. Kennedy held that the Bible should set our laws about rape and abortion. Kennedy is very explicit on this point, saying “In the Bible, the child of rape was allowed to live and the rapist was put to death. Today, we find that the penalties against rape have become more and more lenient, whereas the child is now the subject of capital punishment. Justice has been totally destroyed and perverted in that the guilty are practically allowed to go free and the innocent are killed.” This fits with Kennedy’s general view that we should “rebuild America based on the Bible.”

4. Kennedy thought husbands should determine if their wives can have abortions. Though not specifically addressing rape, Kennedy approvingly cited a Roman prohibition on abortion motivated by the husbands should have control over women’s reproductive choice, saying “That newly created life is as much the husband’s as it is the wife’s. Historically, it is interesting to note that when the Roman Empire did away with laws that allowed abortion, it was done not because of the woman or the harm that abortions were doing to women (and indeed they do vastly more harm than most people are aware of), but because the husband was being defrauded of his progeny.” Interestingly, Akinhas worried that criminalizing marital rape provides women “a legal weapon to beat up on the husband.”

Given that Akin’s rhetoric and policy views bear clear marks of Kennedy’s influence, it’s perhaps no surprise that Akin co-sponsored (with Paul Ryan) a bill that could, by limiting federal funding of abortion to cases of “forcible rape,” make rape survivors give birth to their rapist’s child.

Readers: What do you have to say about this? Blog me.

So many compelling comments from yesterday and the day before. I just perused them but I need to catch up and comment because there are some that I really want to address. Let’s see how much time I’ve got.

Holly: I love a girl who sees the glass half full. I HOPE the skies are shining blue on you today in Missouri.

KS: Bravo to your comment. Sounds perfectly logical to me.

XXX: Why should one only be blessed once? If you want a second shot at ecstasy, give me a call. I am tempted to say I will pencil you in but we both know that you are way bigger than a pencil. I would say more, but at the risk of losing my ladylike modesty, I will simply say, you give as good as you get.

Brittany: That is a good question. At this point I don’t even think it is common sense but just stupidity. I am assuming that you read Talibah’s comment from yesterday’s write.

I rarely skip around when commenting to readers that I want to address, but since you broached the subject I have to first say to Talibah: You are so right on. We do suffer much in the same way, and that is frightening to me. Especially because with everything that is happening in the republican party…with men (not all) that just can’t seem to leave our vagina’s alone and out of the political environment, our rights are in danger. We are not far from losing all that way have unless we act fervently.

This is not the time to sit back and be dispassionate.  Any woman not voting, and I know 1 or 2 women that don’t, (stupid) is a vote for the other side. It is frustrating, infuriating and stupid when women have a voice, a voting right, and don’t exercise their rights and use it for their own health, life, and betterment of all concerned.

As you stated, “American women GIVE their men over and over again the right to control their bodies and lives.”

We women have the power at the polls. If we don’t we will lose them, plain and simple because although there are men who support us, there are not enough. Hell, there aren’t enough women who support women.

With this kind of radical, no longer fringe, thinking,  republican women just have to come to their senses. But when I read comments from Charlotte and Frances, my conclusion is yes, white women (not all) are that stupid. But I still HOPE and continue to talk about it. One just can’t give up when it comes to these kinds of issues.

Mary, and all of the other women who are anti abortion: Think about it this way – what if the shoe was reversed? Say our planet was over populated and we were running out of resources. Or maybe men just decided that they wanted to control women in a very extreme way (sounds familiar huh?)

What if the law were that all women had to abort babies? No more babies allowed. And lots of women who were on board with this idea to “save the planet” or they were just following their men lock step.

How would you feel then? Forget getting all the mens’ support. And there would be no way to get all women to vote their needs over saving the planet, or sadly, to speak their own minds. So would you be fighting for pro-choice? Would you be telling everyone to just stay out of your vagina –  that you should be able to have a baby if you wanted one? No doubt you would.

Does the scenario sound pretty extreme? Well it is and that is how we pro-choice women feel the way it is today.

If you want to have a baby then you have that choice, but then allow me as well the choice to make the hard decision to have an abortion if that is what is best or needed in my life. That sounds fair and logical to me. But for some reason I know the extremists won’t want to give in to this logic.

The freedom to choose: We all deserve it. This is an area where women can support women, and sadly, the support is not strongly there.

I am done for the day. Your turn. Blog me.

Peace & Love and ladies…don’t be apathetic when it comes to your rights of your body, your health.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. 2. Human Events Says:

    What people are talking about:

THE AKIN MUTATION by John Hayward: “…His weird attempt to minimize the frequency of rape pregnancies was not required to make the subsequent, much more crucial point that “the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.” Plenty of people may disagree – various polls suggest that only 20 to 30 percent of Americans are in favor of outlawing abortion for victims of rape. But the point is a legitimate topic of challenging debate. It does not deserve to be conflated with widespread derision for whatever Akin claims he “understands from doctors” about the biological response to “legitimate rape…”

Republicans and conservatives have to make it abundantly clear that these statements have no place in the party. The Democrats now can slam the GOP, and by extension, Romney-Ryan on the faux ‘war on women’ and not have to talk about real issues. It’s exactly what they want, and now have, thanks to Todd Akin.

Please take a look at some of our offerings below and make sure you come back to Human Events to see the latest on Akin and the most update to information on the campaign trail.

Have a great Wednesday and I’ll see you tomorrow.

    -Adam

  3. Olga Says:

I love american politics. My friends usually agree that american white women’s logic lie somewhere between bizzare to stupid.

We are betting that those stupid women will put the most inept group of white men in modern history in powerful political positions.

Europe and the rest of the intellectual world are bracing themselves for the onslaught of these fabricators.

  4. General Info Says:

Finally, Better Cell-Phone Reception at Home

Nearly 70% of cell-phone users report spotty coverage in their homes because wireless signals from a cell tower often are blocked or degraded by landscaping and a home’s walls.

There are various amplifying devices that can be effective, but not all types work well in all homes.

Ways to get better reception in your home…

Boosters or “signal repeaters” capture a weak cell-phone signal from a cell tower, amplify it and rebroadcast it at four- or five-bar signal strength.

They work with most US phone carriers. These are best for people who want a portable device that they can use not just in the house but in a car or office, too, and who only need to rebroadcast the cell-phone signal over a small area—within 20 feet.

Disadvantages: You need to install a little antenna near a window or on the roof of your car, and there must be at least two bars of signal strength from a nearby cell tower to amplify.

    Popular:
Wilson Electronics Sleek is a compact amplifier that boosts voice call signals and 3G data speed on all US networks except Nextel’s. $85 at online retailers such as Amazon.com.

Femtocells are miniature cell-phone towers that you plug into your Internet router. They work by acquiring a cell-phone signal through your Internet connection and then redistributing the signal inside your home.

These are best for rural areas where there may not be any cell-phone signals to amplify or in dense urban areas where the signals can be too weak to boost.

They typically give you five-bar coverage across an area of up to 100 feet away. Make sure to buy a femtocell that supports your particular cell-phone network. Typical cost: $200 to $300 at online retailers such as Amazon.com.

You also may be able to purchase one directly from your cell-phone service provider. You may have to pay a monthly $5-to-$20 fee in addition to your monthly cell-phone bill.

  5. Human Rights Campaign Says:

Just yesterday, one of Mitt Romney’s highest profile supporters, and a member of the GOP platform committee, said same-sex marriage is something the government should condemn – along with drug use and polygamy.

And on top of that, the platform will call for a ban on marriage equality nationwide. This is the platform that Romney will endorse – and it could dictate policy decisions at the highest levels.

Of course, this isn’t the only area where GOP stalwarts are woefully out of touch. Just last week, Republican Rep. Todd Akin claimed that “legitimate rape” survivors don’t get pregnant.

We won’t sit idly by and accept discourse like this. It’s not an option. With over one million members and supporters – straight and LGBT alike – we’re calling out this brand of bigotry and exposing the poisonous motivation behind it.

But our movement’s message is only as powerful as our base, and right now we’re severely outnumbered and outfunded. We need only 765 more new members to step up by midnight tonight to hit our critical members goal.

This fall, we’re honestly facing more threats at once than we have since 2004. We’ve got heavily-funded, extremist-backed marriage campaigns in Maryland, Washington, Minnesota, and more – and rights are on the line. They want to throw equality beyond our reach.

Anti-LGBT candidates could grab hold of everything from state houses to the White House. And a constitutional ban on marriage equality? That’s on the table if things don’t go our way.

We’re doing everything we can to win marriage equality in states across the country and elect pro-equality candidates. But every dollar and every staff hour we put toward these fights is one that doesn’t support our work beyond the election – getting every member of Congress on record about marriage equality, making schools safer and more inclusive, or battling to end the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) once and for all.

So when all is said and done, our best option for winning – and continuing to change hearts and minds around this country – is to grow. If we don’t grow, the damage that’s done could take decades to undo.

If there was ever a time we needed a force for equality, this is it.

    For victory,

    Chad Griffin
    President

  6. Whose White? Says:

The United States Census Bureau defines White people as those “having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. It includes people who reported “White” or wrote in entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Lebanese, Near Easterner, Arab, or Polish.”

  7. Holly Says:

Michelle, I wish. But the creep is continuing to run. The reason is actually been articulated in your blog vehemently recently.

He knows that in this state, women will continue to support his kind of man.

I can’t account for why my sisters continue to support these men who want to undermine women’s rights. I am pro choice, but I can distinguish between someone that supports my values and a man who is out to destroy a woman’s right to self determination.

Why white women in this state continue to support men who view them as just vessels for their sperm is just mystifying to me.

    Holly

  8. George, WN Says:

Olga you foreign bitches are not welcome in America’s politics. White women for the most part are God fearing followers of Jesus Christ. They know that God put placed the man at the head of the household. Therefore it is there duty to support their men.

This thing about Congressman Akin is much to do about nothing. A few silly bitches get riled by the term legitimate.

Look you bitches know that you fake rapes. When you have enticed a man and then think that you can just tell the bull to just turn around and go back into the barn find out that is not true, you cry rape.

My advice is don’t tease men with the pussy if aren’t planning on giving it up. We will take that pussy, if you do.

Besides if you weren’t enjoying it, you wouldn’t get pregnant. That is scientifically proven. Check out Dr. Jack Willke’s information on this fact.

I assure you that women who rely on this spokesman for advice in our party know that a legitimate rape won’t cause a woman to get pregnant.

Those women will be out in force to vote for him.

Fuck all you liberal and foreign bitches.

    George,WN

  9. Fernanda Says:

I see the american tourists when they come to my country. I listen to the white women they bring as wives. Most of their husbands are flirting and trying to cheat right under their noses.

I fully understand why america is so messed up. White women put Bush in the second time around. They put the men who are pushing them towards the state of women in the Middle East back into power in your 2010 elections.

I love reading the input of Social Butterfly, but she must feel desperate being white among the most brain dead voting majority in history.

    Fernanda

  10. John Says:

While everybody is jumping on white women for supporting their white men, let me point out how stupid nigger leadership is.

Take the group the National Urban League they are out wasting the money niggers contribute to their organization trying to stop Nike from making the price of their new Lebron James tennis shoe more than $300.00.

Get real you dumb niggers. There have got to be more important issued than trying to tell a company what to charge for its product. How about allowing the market place to do that.

Don’t you think your time and their money would be better served by checking on whether that drug dealing nigger Chavis Carter was murdered?

  11. Fred Says:

Why shouldn’t men have a say in the use of the body that brings our children into the world?

Just because women are the ones that bear the children shouldn’t mean they get the right to do what they want with their bodies.

That will never happen as long as men have the ability to enact laws to keep the irresponsible woman from endangering our future children.

God made man first for a reason.

    Fred

  12. Alycedale Says:

Never say never, but when you are right, you are right. And John you are right. Why is the National Urban League wasting money and embarrassing their brand by trying to influence the price Nike intends to charge for a shoe?

I’ve fired off a letter to management saying they have lost my contributing support and I expect them to drop this silly endeavor if they expect to continue my support in other areas.

John as you pointed out, and if I may give Social Butterfly a nod, as she pointed out first, “dumb” is not an exclusive adjective for any group, sex, race or entity.

    I agree.
    Alycedale

  13. Lewis Says:

The reason it is so easy for the republicans to lie in the face of known facts that they are lying is because the people they are lying to don’t want the truth to be anything that differs from what they already believe.

  14. Robert,RT Says:

The problem is the deference that the white media gives to their fellow whites. For example they say the republican party is a “faith based” party.

Here they are trying to convince us that the republicans see everything thorough faith. As if to say they may be wrong but it comes from an honest place.

That is the lie that aids those monsters. They are NOT a based party. At best they are a Market based party, at worst they are Greed based party.

They use “faith” exactly the same way they use racism, bigotry, lies, and anything they think will motivate others to support them or to continue supporting their party.

The media allows it by refusing to call them on obvious lies. They encourage these greedy consciousness liars to use one lie after another to get their way.

Sure many white women fall victim to the lies of the white boy, but so do many others of all sexes, and races.

    Robert,RT

  15. Tom Says:

Fuck you niggers. Romney leads that nigger 53% to 40% for the white vote. We are going to take our country back from the slopes, kikes, wets, muds, rag head, camel and regular niggers.

If you white women want to stand with your men we welcome you, but come with God. White men were chosen by God to rule His planet. Your place is to follow that edict and obey your White man.

That goes to the white working class too who have leaned towards the propaganda of that nigger. You had better see the way or you will pay with the rest of that trash.

How to Offer Comfort to Someone Who Is Dying

It’s one of the most dreaded pieces of news we can receive—a friend or loved one is dying. How you respond to the situation can affect not only the person’s death, but also your own eventual grieving process.

But few of us have much experience in being with someone who is dying. What should we say—and not say?

What if the prospect of a visit seems overwhelming? Whether your loved one has months or just days to live, here’s what helps most…

    PLANNING THE VISIT

Anxiety about visiting a dying friend or relative is very normal. Death can arouse uneasiness and worry about how the person will have changed—particularly if you have not seen him/her for some time.

But if you can, go ahead and visit. The fact that you care enough to overcome your discomfort will mean a great deal to your friend or relative. And the fact that you got to visit or say good-bye to your loved one before he died may help you avoid any regrets.

During visits, one of the most important messages we can convey to a dying person is a sense of what has not changed—that deep down inside, your loved one is still the same wonderful friend, beloved brother or cousin.

To maintain that sense of connection, remember that dying doesn’t change your fundamental relationship. Be who you are—don’t act differently or phony.

If humor has been a big part of your relationship, don’t stop now. If you and the ill person typically talked about sports, then it’s fine to mention a recent game.

If you’re the kind of friends who got together once a month, resist the temptation to visit every other day—others may have the same idea, putting a burden on the dying person and caregivers.

To maximize your time with the person: A good rule of thumb is to increase the frequency of your get-togethers by half—for example, every two weeks instead of every three.

Ask caregivers about the frequency of visits. They will know what other visits are planned and can gauge the dying person’s condition and mood.

Always call, text or e-mail the caregiver (depending on the method of contact he prefers) before you come.

If you are living with a dying person, recognize that he may become quiet and introspective and may not want a lot of conversation or communication with you. Pay attention to signals.

    WHAT TO SAY

At the end of life, it’s common for the dying person to focus less on physical infirmities (assuming pain is controlled) and increasingly on emotional and spiritual concerns and worries about those being left behind.

What helps: Rather than asking, “How are you feeling?” a gentle query such as “How are things?” is often a more appropriate opening. Also, you may want to ask, “Is there anything you’d like to talk about?”

If the person doesn’t wish to talk, don’t persist. If you don’t know what to say, you can praise the person, if it seems appropriate. “I really admire how you’re handling your illness. I don’t think I could deal with it with such dignity.”

Also helpful: If words fail you at the moment, don’t be afraid of silence. If it’s appropriate to your relationship, put your hand on the other person’s. Touch can be more eloquent than speech.

    Important:
If the dying person is in a phase of denial about his impending death, be compassionate and do not try to break through with the truth.

For example, if your brother talks about joining you at the family beach house, there’s no need to tell him that he won’t be going. Instead, validate the feeling behind his wish.

“What a delightful place! We’ve always had so much fun there, haven’t we?” You can then reminisce about the happy times you shared there.

    SHOW HOW YOU FEEL

You may think that you need to put on a brave face. But the fact is, you’re sad about the person’s impending death, so you won’t fool anyone by acting otherwise. Even worse, it could leave the impression that you don’t care.

    What helps:
Let yourself cry. Don’t worry that if you cry the dying person will start crying, too. Perhaps he will, but there’s nothing wrong with crying together.

    Important:
Avoid the temptation to shelter children from these painful emotions. How else can they learn to grieve and cope with such situations later in their lives?

You can take children to visit a dying person. If excluded, they often imagine something far worse than reality.

    Exception:
Avoid taking children to the intensive care unit (ICU). Many hospitals do not allow anyone under age 12 in an ICU, and children tend to get frightened of the medical equipment and machines.

    CAN YOU FACE IT?

If you feel that you just can’t face the prospect of being with someone who is dying, stay home. Uncontrolled sobbing won’t help anyone.

If you’re not able to visit: Send cards, letters and e-mails showing that you care. Think of practical ways that you can ease the burden on the dying and the caregivers—for example, shop for food or cut the lawn.

Leave a pot of tulips on the person’s doorstep with a heartfelt message written in a card. Or drop off a CD of music that you know the dying person likes.

    YOUR GIFTS TO THE DYING

As most people prepare to leave the world, they look back and need to know—has my life made a difference? Whether you’re a son or daughter or friend, let the person know how he has enriched your life.

    What helps:
You can say: “You’ve taught me so much,” “Remember all the great times we had?” You can also put together an album of photos recalling your life together.

And contrary to one common myth, it’s fine to recognize that life will go on after the person is gone. You can tell him that his loved ones will take care of one another and that their shared memories will be a continuing source of strength.

    Also:
As time grows short, most people have a final need—to convey the wisdom they’ve acquired during a lifetime. Listen. You also might want to write down or tape-record these remarks.

If there really is a rape, the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down.

That statement is met by so many white women in that state saying we still agree with him though the we think he misspoke.

Ladies he said “… that whole thing…”. He was referring to a part of your body as “that thing.”

C’mon ladies how can you vote for a man that calls your body part, “that thing?” Actually 32,000 of those “things” a year because that is how many rapes that end up in pregnancies EACH year.

You are voting for a party that is ore than 90% white male dominated. Males who will say and do anything to keep women in virtually the same place Middle Eastern men keep their women in. That would be virtual sexual servitude to you slow thinking, ones.

Your brand is so negative because you refuse to think before you accept the lies of those men.

  20. Keo Says:

Obama has lowered taxes on most Americans.
Romney would raise taxes on most Americans.

It’s been a hundred years, or so, since starting a business were as low-cost as it is today. Taxes have never been lower in modern times, and neither has the cost of borrowing money.
The wealthiest Americans have gotten wealthier over the past 30 years. Over the past ten, none of that wealth at the top has translated into jobs.

It makes me sick that these dishonest factophobic rightwingidealogues keep insisting that the same things that got America into its economic mess will get America out of its economic mess. They’re lying, they know it, and they don’t care.
America has been getting bullied by the cryptofascistrightwing ever since Reagan got inaugurated and look what has happened: the middle class has shrunk, wealth has bubbled up to the top, our education system has deteriorated, our roads and bridges have deteriorated, and we were brought to our knees by a bunch of lunatics from Yemen.

How anyone thinks that American kids, learning creationism rather than science, being deprived of opportunities in art, and being taught to fear what is foreign and not-yet-known are going to be able to succeed in the future is absolutely beyond me.

Obama put forth the American Jobs Act–which, according to Mooney’s, and others–would have created a couple of million jobs and boosted the GDP. And the rightwingobamahaters killed it.

That’s Why Obama has 94% of the black vote and Romney has O% of the black vote.

The really stupid is the racist, bigoted phony religious factor of the white race that will accept any platform that justifies their vote based on their any one but Obama philosophy.

You have a party determined to block any success in the country Michael Grunwald’s book “The New Deal” reveals the cold bloodied policy behind to destroy the country at every opportunity to insure that the country would be in dire straits for the next election.

The worst disgrace is that the white media went along with it. Even today they say Obama’s policy didn’t work rather than reveal the fact that the republicans deliberately refused to cooperate with anything that they thought would help the country recover economically or in any other way.

I can’t count the phone calls and visits I have had with crying (for the dead babies that will die if Todd doesn’t get in the Senate to save by voting against all abortions) Todd’s lost of his $4million political backing by the republican party.

So these crying white women are out in droves trying to make up the money he’s lost so that dear ole Todd can continue his pursuit of NO exception for abortions.

I look out my window and watch thousands of women working to give men more control over the most private and intimate parts of their bodies, emotions and acts.

I am afraid that we are going to have to come up with a more powerful word for ” Dumb As A Box Of Rocks” American white women to describe the absolute ignorance of my pathetic race.

Lisa, thank you and I have a hard time trying to get anyone other than another agnostic/atheist female to understand. There is a giant conservative women’s movement who have decided that this ‘…whole thing…’ (their bodies, no less) is exactly the thing to minimize in this race, and they are running at the mouth on FB about jobs/economy/bail out money and in CAPS, writing ‘and your ovaries are more important than that???’ oy vey is all I can say. Although I threw a post in about not understanding the difference between ‘legit’ as opposed to ‘ill’(sick a-hole)-legit’ rape, etc….we’ll see where that goes : )
I’m happy to help where i can but I can tell you that the anti-choice forces are out in numbers. *sigh* and they do not care how the US is perceived around the world, as long as they can say pro-choice women murder babies (we won’t mention their approval of taking out an abortion doc or two, but I suppose g-d told the to do it so it’s okay…) and claim that Dems under Obama’s reign has been disasterous for women’s jobs, quoting numbers that are overall unemployment numbers, etc…they use anything they can spin doctor…

This country has a problem though, any pres has to wait till term 2 to make any real and lasting changes, it’s just the way it is – to protect getting voted into that 2nd term, it has been a horrible set back in many cases (or just a place to pardon every crony on the way out of office) bc while the economy is hurting and we know why rethugs put that strategy into play, bc it keeps peeps in limbo, econ in limbo, and most folks just aren’t comfortable there, in limbo. I am, I know limbo very well, sometimes it’s a nicely laid out long term strategy, and I’m HOPING Obama thinks like I do, at the strategy for winning the end game…and winning it in a BIG way. I’d love to watch a sweep on the TV on election night, the collective smell of rethugs pooping themselves silly will permeate the atmosphere and I will still party on down : )

I agree with you Gwen. Todd Akin could still win a seat in the US Senate. Women in this state are our in droves supporting this creep.

I’m not just talking about the old indoctrinated biddies. There are thousands of young teenage to middle aged white women knocking on doors, making phone calls and generally doing whatever is asked of them to support Todd Akin.

Yesterday, Akin released a letter from Dr. Jack Willke, founder of the International Right to Life Federation.

It stated – “The pro-life movement and I unequivocally stand with Rep. Akin. How could we not? Rep. Akin will make the U.S. Senate a safer place for the most vulnerable in our nation.”

“It’s time for Republican leaders to rise to the level of Rep. Akin’s principle and courage and stand with him and the Republican platform that stands for the protection of every human life.”
    ======================
The republican platform bans abortions without exceptions for rape or incest. This includes women who’s pregnancy endangers their lives.

  34. Kevin Says:

Islamaphobia, Xenophobia, and every other phobia of things not white, preferably male, and middle class or better off, and a phobia of what might happen if they let women have free reign over what happens in their vagina seems to be the platform of the Republican party these days.

I work with a Democratic candidate for state legislature who told me he thinks this is the “last dying gasp” of the Republican party.

I sure hope so! I believe that having a less than cogent and serious opposition party actually makes ours/mine less so as well.

We could’ve killed this Great Recession once and for all if legislation hadn’t come to screeching halt after the 2010 elections. The blame for peoples’ (including my own) economic suffering rests squarely on the Republican Party’s shoulders and they should be ashamed!

  35. Ricky Says:

That we still have “strategic race-baiting,” and we most definitely do, and that it is a strategy of choice for Republicans because it can swing an election, is a condemnation of us all.

One would like to think that a party or a candidate who would choose to use such a strategy would suffer a loss of all credibility, but they don’t. It goes on, and on, and on, and on, and it becomes increasingly difficult to accept the proposition that we will ever be rid if it.

It is, in it’s present guise, more ingrained in our culture and it is more intricately and deceptively than ever a part if our more uncompromising and angry national divisions along partisan lines.

  36. Andrea Says:

I disagree with you Kevin. Claiming that the Obama campaign is running on things that insight anger and division amongst us is hardly racist.

However it leads to the bigger, more important argument, about how many more negative campaign ads/materials are circulated by campaigns as oppose to ads that highlight why a particular candidate is the best, not why the other is the worse.

Many of those in support of the Obama administration try to make everything about race even when its not. Obama doesn’t need that, he can run on his own merits.

He doesn’t need his supporters trying to excite people to vote for him by stirring them up with the passionate feelings that come with real racisim.

  37. Roger Says:

Kevin, I believe you have it about right, but I happen to believe the president was stymied before 2010.

A true leader doesn’t make senseless comments such as my sole goal is to ensure the president doesn’t receive a second term.

No matter how much you dislike a person or individual, as a representative of your country, your goal should be about the state of the entire country itself, and not a specific individual.

I’m also dismayed at the number of governors who have undertaken steps to disenfranchise black and latino voters. Voter fraud is not, in and of itself, justification for denying people to vote. This is especially egregious when the facts show that there never were any cases of voter fraud in the first place.

The politicians are simply lying to pretend that steps should be taken to correct a problem that doesn’t exist.

  38. Donna Says:

    Andrea:

First off, you can’t even give us supporters credit for independent thought. You don’t think we ALL hear the double talk we’ve been hearing our whole lives.

How would any caucasion Americans know anything about systematic racism? In every part of your life, from going to the corner store to getting on an airplane, you get to do so without having to deal with the racist attitudes and actions of your sick race.

I’ve been looking at monkey posters and all kinds of degrading bigoted stuff all my life. When was the last time you saw a picture or read a diatribe denigrating your race?

You insensitive bastards make me sick. I just want to live to see the day when your race is no longer the majority in this country.

I can only imagine how sensitive you will become to the slightest hint that your race is being discriminated against. Judging from how much press you give to the slightest perceive “reverse racism” it will be a real hoot nanny.

Now when VP Joe Biden uses “back in chains” every GOPer in the country is losing their minds. That’s funny. Considering that party has been portraying Obama in every racist disparaging term and depiction they can think of every since he became President, it is just incredible that you or any of your race can claim to be offended.

Yet, the white media pretends that this “back in chains” remark is so terrible that the VP must be called out on it 24/7 on every channel. Where were you and these hypocritical frauds when Obama was being called everything but a child of God?

Yeah, you were waiting to Claim that we were playing the race card. Fuck you people and that ship full of dead beat debtors you came to this country on.

Aside from murdering 12 million indigenous people to this country and murdering tens of millions of black people in order to bring a few million black people to enslave, rape, abuse to include the practice of systematized incest by raping their daughters, nieces, sisters, granddaughters personally when you weren’t forcing the slaves to participate in systemized incest, what is it you are so proud of contributing to this nation?

White women are killing OTW women by the thousands in this country. In Texas alone that may reach the the 1,000 figure. The State of Texas has been given the right to ban Planned Parenthood from being available to the poor and middle class until it is ruled on by the Texas District court.

I don’t really care what you call these sick white morons or how you justify their ignorance. All I know is those pathetic excuses for human beings are using their moral beliefs to literally kill OTW women.

It is a shame the number of people who died during the Civil Rights struggles in the 60′s that gave today’s white women the equality their white men wouldn’t give them.

All that suffering and death to end up with those pathetic pieces of shit aligning themselves with those white men to kill OTW women today.

  41. Marisol Says:

I want to vomit when I look at the white women in the background supporting Romney & Ryan. We thought that there would be some sort of solidarity among women across all barriers after the successes of the Civil Rights Movement in the 60′s.

That would include color, religion, race, politics, etc.

Yet, for the most part white women have proved to be as callous and racist as their males. As soon as they got some power, they abandoned us for the advantages of being white.

They became exactly like their males. And like them, they will use any tactic to force their moral beliefs upon upon the rest of us. Actually, the proper choice of words would be religious beliefs because to call what they do as moral is ludicrous.

To me it doesn’t matter who or what excuse is proffered to excuse or justify their behavior. The fact is they are an impediment to the attainment of equality for the rest of the women in America.

Obama has the black vote – at the highest rate ever. He is working on the latinos – dangling amnesty and catering to La Raza…

The right wing has been using race in subversive and non- suberversive ways to sway voters. President Obama has done some absolutely great things during his presidency that has helped to save this nation from the inevitable collapse that it was headed for when he took office.

Yes, the Black race in America does have some undermining characters such as Clarence Thomas, but there are also the deceptive infiltrators that we are very ware of. Lies and deception are corner stones of the right wingers who are mostly white wingers.

  48. Chris Says:

The truth is the ultimate defense against a lie; the middle class and poor are not doing well because the rich are doing so well.

The economics, the numbers, it is as plain as day. This system is designed to have the rich, the middle class, and the poor–that is fine, there is nothing wrong with that.

This system was not designed to have the wealth quickly and overwhelmingly accumulate at the top. This is akin to having a blocked artery.

Capitalism requires that capital be in the hands of many, so that they can spend and create demand. This flies in the face of the supply-side economics that Republicans cling to, but supply-side economics flies in the face of observable, objective reality.

Kenneth, cheers to that, although I am over it here, I don’t take any of it personal to me ZL, though I totally understand the anger at white thinking, it’s one of those issues like the 1% (and I’m with you, Ruth, cheers to you as well) – if you or anyone is expecting the 1% to ‘understand’ or care about what they do to the disenfranchised, they don’t and never will, they’re missing the empathy gene, I’m not excusing them, I’m just saying you cannot expect feelings from people who don’t feel for others…they usually don’t even care about each other, life is a financial gain game, love only fits into the equation if it’s for gain somehow (in house sex, baby making to perpetuate the family lines, etc…).

…oh, hmm, sorry, I guess I’ve researched just a titch too much on the important bloodlines of the world and rust me, that’s a rabbit hole that has no boundaries. Its tough to argue these political points when you follow Ruth’s logic (and it is the only logic) – even Anonz has stated that the 1% of true wealth has no country.
