Flap Your Lips Friday

Good morning!
So it looks like many of you watched the last evening of the RNC. All I can say is that I was sickened and disturbed by Eastwood’s speech last night as he spoke to the empty chair, whom he pretended was filled by Obama. For him to act as if our president would say words to him, such as “Fuck yourself”, was so off base…so out of touch when it comes to knowing our president. Obama would never speak that way – he’s a gentleman, a man who chooses his words carefully and diplomatically, and would never lose his cool when it comes to addressing characters such as Eastwood.
Eastwood was a joke. I agree with Maddow, “It was bizarre”. The big hook should’ve come out, grabbed him, and dragged him off stage. Yes /SB, Eastwood’s guest appearance was a definite “surprise”, and one that will never be forgotten.
Harrietta: I feel the same way. Romney, to me, is still not connecting with anyone. Yes, his speech was probably the best he has given but that doesn’t make it a great speech – except maybe for him, but not when it comes to great speeches in general. And certainly not “brilliant”. There was nothing inspiring about his speech. And I have no problem giving kudos where it is deserved even if I and not fond of the person. But Romney didn’t do it for me. Probably because he is such an LSOS, I can’t see past that fact. And for some reason, I always notice that whenever I watch him, his eyes sometimes gets that pansy glazed over look like he’s dreaming or spacing out.
And Lies? Yep, we all know Romney is a LSOS. He says that he had hoped when Obama took office he would succeed, but we all know that is a lie. No republican wanted him to succeed and Romney is no different. Obama did succeed in many things, more than any past president, but they will never admit that it took a black man to do many great things for all in this country.
Look, that is why they have to make up so many lies so the stupid ones will believe and vote for Romney. And if it wasn’t for the party of no, Obama would’ve been even more successful in his agenda and our country would be that much better off. But no, whatever they needed to do to get Obama out they are going to do, no matter what the consequences are for our country. And if Obama isn’t re-elected we will find out just how bad it will be.
“Now is the moment when we can stand up and say, ‘I’m an American. I make my destiny. And we deserve better. My children deserve better. My family deserves better. My country deserves better!’” Romney said.
Another lie. How can I make my own destiny, when for women, you want to control our bodies and take away our choices? Women don’t have control over their future when women are being told what they can and cannot do….with their bodies…with their unborn. My plans for my future would get tossed into the garbage, if I got pregnant and didn’t want the baby, under your administration.
Notice how he keeps saying “my”? My children…My family, My Country. What happened to “The country deserves better? All of our children deserve better?…
If he’s speaking in terms of “My”, you can be rest assured he is someone only concerned about me and mine. Everything else he says, every promise he makes to get you to vote for him, is most likely a lie.
And Romney adds:
“This president cannot tell us that you’re better off today than when he took office.”
Well, I guess he’s not talking to all of those people who not only would’ve lost their health benefits, but their lives too. I’d say being alive than dead is better off wouldn’t you? But he’s not thinking of anyone but himself. Once again, he and his family can afford high health costs so why bother helping those that can’t. You can kiss the Affordable Care Act goodbye if Romney wins, and for those about to lose your health care, you can kiss your family goodbye too.
Linora: I have had similar feelings about Matthews for awhile now. Although his rant the other night I have to give applauds to, his comments last night left me with those same same similar feelings again.
Paul: Thanks for raising those stats again. I posted them months ago but it is a good reminder for readers who just don’t know the real truth when it comes to welfare and who is really on it.
Michelle Obama: Thanks for posting this. I will do what I can.
Readers: If you’ve waited all year and haven’t made a donation to the Obama administration, now is the time, like /SB, to give what you can. Thank you.
PS: A major victory in Ohio today. The Federal Court restores early voting in Ohio. A big Thank you goes out to Obama. Another action that ends in success proving that once again he is the president that truly cares about all of the American people.
I’m done. It’s Friday…start flapping.
Peace & Love….

Happy Friday!
The Republican National Convention is over – brought to a roaring conclusion with nominee Mitt Romney’s acceptance address. Coming into the convention, many were skeptical about whether Romney would be able to accomplish everything that needed to be done. Could he connect with voters, could he convey a sense of warmth and genuineness that has often been lacking? Could he make the policy arguments for lower taxes and a freer economy in a convincing and authentic way?
Personally, I think he achieved this and more. Perhaps I set the bar low – I wasn’t expecting much to begin with – but Romney’s speech was everything it needed to be. He isn’t the greatest orator to speak for the Republican Party, but Romney achieved the messaging and well-rounded pathos that has been missing for so long.
He made the arguments for a free nation, a nation that looks forward, seeking to provide future generations with the opportunities afforded by liberty and prosperity – and he did so, not in a mechanistic and cold manner, but in a very human way. He told the story of his parents and he was able to fulfill the path laid out by his wife Ann’s speech by speaking from his heart.
We have a lot of fantastic coverage of the Republican National Convention from Tampa, and we’ll bring you the latest analysis through the day and into the Democratic National Convention, which begins next week in Charlotte, N.C.
We’ve also compiled all of our team’s stories from on the ground in Tampa, as well as some of the best speeches in one place for your viewing and reading pleasure, here.
Before I sign off, though, be sure to read the latest reports and reactions to the speeches from Hope Hodge and John Gizzi, below.
Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day holiday!

This was the worst Convention I have ever seen and I have seen many! I know the people were pretending to be excited but it was a sleeper! Mitt Speech had no specifics only empty promise and heavy on the finger pointing.
He would have gotten a huge bump if he would have plastered his Taxes on those silly Flat Screens! To me as an Independent he did nothing to change my mind as of today I am still voting Obama!
August 31st, 2012 at 10:50 am
A flying squirrel has more personality than Mitt. His ratings were not too bad,but some cable shows and college football game did better than his speech.
By the way, Obama’s speech will be on the same day as a college football game that I am going to next week(Pitt-Cincinnati),but it sounds like that they could show some of his speech on the Jumbotron during the game, but that hasn’t been decided.

Having lived in Louisiana and having grown up in a small town in Oregon, I know racism is alive and well and living in America.
Much of it is white provoked and African American response. Much denial about it, often on both sides.
But it is a terrible thing in our country, and in the land of the free and home of the brave, we can do better.

Finally, a Great Substitute for Mayo in Recipes
Editor’s Note: So many recipes call for mayo! But mayo is so high-fat that I try to avoid it. I was delighted to find a nutritious (and yummy!) solution to this problem.
My colleague Tamara Eberlein, who edits sister publication HealthyWoman from Bottom Line, recently talked with an expert who told her about a delicious, healthy alternative to mayonnaise. Check out the article, below, and to sign up for a free subscription to HealthyWoman from Bottom Line, click here. —Carole
Did you catch my recent Q&A on the health benefits of Greek versus regular yogurt, which ran in the December 22 issue of HealthyWoman from Bottom Line? (Check it out here.)
As I was talking with Rebecca Scritchfield, RD, LD, a Washington, DC–based dietitian and my expert source for that article, I mentioned that I had tried substituting plain nonfat yogurt for high-fat mayo or sour cream in various recipes, with disappointing results.
She told me that the secret to successful substitution with yogurt is to go Greek.
“Nonfat Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular nonfat yogurt, so it makes a superb substitute for high-fat mayonnaise and sour cream in many types of recipes,” Scritchfield explained.
“Not only does the extra creaminess satisfy the taste buds, but Greek yogurt’s higher protein content satisfies your appetite longer, too.”
During our conversation, Scritchfield also shared two of her favorite recipe makeovers that substitute Greek yogurt for the traditional high-fat ingredients to reduce calories and fat without sacrificing taste. Now I want to pass these yummy recipes along to you. Enjoy!
TANGY TUNA SALAD
Using regular mayonnaise, this dish would have about 250 calories and 12 grams of fat per ¼ cup serving… this makeover version has just 110 calories and 1.4 grams of fat per serving.
Note: The tiny bit of mayonnaise this recipe calls for is enough to lend it mayo’s characteristic tang without overloading the fat and calories.
Ingredients…
2 six-ounce cans of water-packed tuna, drained
2 Tablespoons dill pickle relish
½ Tablespoon mayonnaise
½ Tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
½ cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
Place all ingredients in a bowl and stir well to combine. Serve over lettuce leaves. Makes five servings.
NUTTY BANANA-YOGURT BREAD
Traditional banana bread made with sour cream and oil has about 290 calories and 15 grams of fat per one-inch slice… this Greek yogurt version trims those numbers to 190 calories and 5.5 grams of fat.
Ingredients…
1⅔ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
⅔ cup sugar
2 eggs
½ cup unsweetened applesauce
3 very ripe bananas, peeled and mashed
2 Tablespoons plain nonfat Greek yogurt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
⅔ cup chopped toasted walnuts
In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl, beat sugar and eggs with an electric mixer or whisk until fluffy, then beat in applesauce.
To the sugar mixture, add the mashed bananas, Greek yogurt and vanilla, blending well. Fold in flour mixture and toasted walnuts. Pour into a nine-inch loaf pan lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350° for 45 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool, cut into one-inch slices and serve.
USING GREEK YOGURT IN YOUR OWN RECIPES
To substitute Greek yogurt for higher fat ingredients in your own favorite recipes, you may need to experiment to find just the right consistency and taste.
Scritchfield’s simple rules of thumb can get you started. For instance…
full-fat or reduced-fat mayo or sour cream, substitute an equal amount of plain nonfat Greek yogurt.
If a recipe calls for both mayo and sour cream, substitute nonfat Greek yogurt for half the mayo and half the sour cream.
For each cup of buttermilk (for instance, in pancakes or sauces), substitute one-half cup nonfat Greek yogurt plus one-half cup skim milk.

You niggers and nigger lovers get your idiotic rants accusing white people of racist attitudes towards niggers from the likes of people like Chris Matthews.
That is just White Liberal Guilt. The guy needs to be put out of his misery.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:12 am
Michelle, that Ohio ruling by the federal judge is an example of Obama using the courts to “Fix ” the election , Why this is worse than Acorn
August 31st, 2012 at 11:14 am
Sorry, John you are wrong. I must say Chris Matthews is a true patriotic American and God fearing man.
He puts his “money where his mouth is” and call out those who seek to benefit by preach hatred and division thru lies and propaganda (yes FOX, CNN, RIGHT TALK AND THE GOP ) all are guilty of this.
They lie and plant the seeds of hatred then stand back as those seeds bloom into plants of hatred. They can deny all they wish but their actions prove Mr Matthews to be correct.
They preached hate ever since President Obama won the election and they have not stopped one day since then.
Check their records no one prove their critics correct more than they do.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:15 am
You nailed it John. Matthews is absolute liar..and lives in a guilt ridden world, he hates being white!
He needs to project his guilt on all that does not approve of the job Obama has done…he is the one making ridiculous accusations..
he cannot back up any of his slanderous comments that reek of his hate for the those who have a different political view…
Matthews is a hatemonger and only poisons the airwaves.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:16 am
Tom, Seriously? You missed the point that the GOP has been using their positions of power to limit opportunities of all people to vote in this election.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:18 am
That diatribe coming from the King of race baiting, Chris Matthews is really funny!
Maybe he can tell us WHY Obama would rather put more people on the government plantation versus encouraging them to work?
August 31st, 2012 at 11:19 am
Keeping the voting laws as they have been, preventing one party from changing the laws for transparently partisan reasons- to prevent legitimate voters from voting because they are “urban, read African American”- that’s “fixing” the election?
What kind of Through the Looking Glass thinking is that? It’s clearly the Ohio republicans who are trying to “fix” the election, as this federal judge properly found.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:21 am
Tom, ARE YOU THAT UNEDUCATED? AND MISINFORMED? OR JUST NOT USED TO READING? The more you read the less you retain is that it?
Stop your bigoted perspective and ask yourself who started this voting conspiracy..perfect example why USA is not even in the top bracket when it comes to education!
August 31st, 2012 at 11:23 am
Racism will always be around, hateful people will always exist on all sides! No one person or group is immune too such beliefs.
The problem is not that racism exist, it is the constant drum beating of how prevalent it is…when it is not! That is what angers most people, including people in minority communities!..
The words and actions of a few get resounding attention by people like Matthews who is locked in what must be his own feelings of guilt, and others who live off of racism i.e. Sharpton, Black Panthers, Nation of Islam..etc. Want too stop racism…stop talking about it, and act as good people should…treat others as you would want to be treated.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:24 am
Matthews is a cringe inducing sanctimoniousness self loathing white lib who’d I love to see go take a stroll around Overtown(outside N Miami) at night then he might see some real racism.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:25 am
Tom, Acorn? You mean that little thing Republicans created back in 2004? Then we all found the whole thing was a set up done by Republicans?
Ah Memories: Due to their success in registering voters, ACORN has long been a strawman target for the GOP. In 2004, for example, just days before the Presidential election, the wingnut media even went so far as to falsely report that the group had registered a terrorist to vote in Ohio.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:25 am
Michelle, It good to see that the courts are still some what for America. its also good to see the string of victory’s out number the one or two that the court blew.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:29 am
Michelle, that was FABULOUS news, for me as an Ohioan as well as for the hope it might bring to other states facing similar GOP discriminatory voting restrictions. Clearly, the GOP (even by their own admission) has targeted limiting the opportunity of some Americans to vote as one strategy to win this election.
I hope these court rulings have not come too late to positively impact the rights of voters to allow their voices to be heard on election day!
Thank you, Michelle, for keeping this in the country’s purview in ways that calls to the question what the racists are up to and make GOP legislators’ racist laws known for what they are. You are awesome!
August 31st, 2012 at 11:31 am
Michelle, I didn’t care for the speech but I was not his intended audience. One aspect that I found a bit worrisome was the angle of: “it’s okay if you don’t want to support him anymore.
He tried and it didn’t work. No one will blame you for moving on . .” That could resonate with some folks. Not enough to make a difference necessarily but he gave people permission to walk away. He planted that seed.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:34 am
Michelle, when you said, “How can I make my own destiny, when for women, you want to control our bodies and take away our choices? ” it resonated with me.
I was amazed to listen to republican woman going along with being thrown under the bus because they said that the economy needed to come first.
What, republicans can’t fix the economy and take care of the citizens at the same time.
Then how in the heck do you think I’m going to vote for a party that can’t walk and chew gum at the same time by their own delegates?
Ruth,ms
August 31st, 2012 at 11:36 am
Jerry#9&14 is one of those conservative(code for racist) “plants” that scroll through the posts and push racial buttons. Don’t mind them. Who reads one story and asks “why isn’t this the story?”
Let’s just make sure we vote.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:39 am
He actually seemed a bit human when talking about his parents, but then ended the speech with what felt like the same chickenhawk republican warmongoring by bring up Putin, Iran, and the superiority of the US (ie; long arm of uncle sam).
It overshadowed everything else he said. It made me feel like the 12 million jobs would all be soldiers. And those soldiers would have a gun in one hand a the book of mormon in the other.
August 31st, 2012 at 11:42 am
Wimpy speech. Boehner must’ve been a crying mess.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:00 pm
Nate
Thanks for following up. But your explanation still doesn’t make sense to me. If I am a private individual making a private contribution on my private time – how does my employer become relevant? One has nothing to do with the other.

Tom Brokaw is one of those white boys that is given so much esteem because he is supposed to be all that.
He is a closet bigot, who wants a white man back in the White House. If you think I am off point, consider when Obama was running for election in 2008.
Both he and Charlie Rose showed themselves to be white boys with the concept that only a white man was qualified to be president. Check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzMas1bVidw
You will notice the subtle hints that Obama is not qualified to handle foreign affairs and he may not be intelligent enough to hold the office.
All the while one or the other mentions the qualifications or how well read McCain was. If McCain had become president this country would be still in the ruts Bush put us in and there would have been on end to “Don’t ask , Don’t tell.”Only a white boy could have come up with somethings as ludicrous and duplicitous as that.
The country would still be in the grips of the greedy health insurance companies and we would be fighting wars on all fronts and still chasing Bin Laden.
Tom Brokaw admitted that he knew very little about Barack Obama. A nationally recognized newsman knows very little about the man about to be elected POTUS? Why does his opinion count for anything?
August 31st, 2012 at 12:12 pm
Social Butterfly, when you give to a federally registered political action committee. They are required to disclose to the Federal Election Commission the name, address, occupation and employer of their contributors, and verify that they are permanent legal residents of the United States.
One of the ways is to check with your employer. They don’t need to disclose that you are a donor. They only need to verify that if you employer hires none citizens that the donation didn’t come from one of them.
It is natural that you would feel that this is a bit much since STARK of SCOTUS gave corporations regardless of country affiliation the right to give unlimited to political campaigns.
What could have been their purpose?

I used to be a big fan of Chris Matthews……..watched his show every night.
But over the last several years, something has happened to him. If it wasn’t so frightening, it would be sad. Something is wrong with him……..seriously wrong.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:17 pm
As long as you allow groups to exist like La Raza, Congressional Black Caucus, Aryan Nations, NAACP, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, or any organization that has race in their name, there will be racism.
Until all of the minority groups in this country decide to assimilate into society in general there will be racism.
Now, when you have an entire group of people scanning every single arcticle or broadcast or event trying to find anything that can be construed as harmful to their cause remotely connected to race it is glorified and made into a national affront.
To me, this is the racism. Like the Todd Akin incident. He was pointing out something he had learned about biology which was affirmed yesterday by a renowned physician. Since the word rape was used and it obviously had something to do with abortion it is blown out of proportion.
Rape is a heinous crime and I do not understand why it has a statute of limitations is how I personally feel because I will be attacked for daring to comment on this.
What is the shame here is that 23 million Americans are out of work and we talk about nonsense.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:18 pm
Fred, What in god’s name is wrong with him begging for this country to get past racial animus?
August 31st, 2012 at 12:26 pm
TPM#28, You people are either just ignorant or so full of your own bullshit that you think others can’t see through it.
I only have time to address this comment you made before my boss returns – “To me, this is the racism. Like the Todd Akin incident. He was pointing out something he had learned about biology which was affirmed yesterday by a renowned physician. Since the word rape was used and it obviously had something to do with abortion it is blown out of proportion.”
————————–
I can’t believe that you came on to Michelle’s blog attempting to push the lie that if a woman is raped she has ways to shut that whole thing down bullshit with the assertion that the statement had biological backing from “a renowned physician.”
Are you an idiot or a fucking idiot? One more time, women can get pregnant from rape.
And racism by white idiots like you does exist. I am a renowned white woman who backs that statement. Is that good enough for your dumb ass?
Alexandra
August 31st, 2012 at 12:27 pm
Another sign of the racist is that when someone of another race does something they don’t like, they condemn the entire race, but if someone of their race does someting they don’t like, they claim the race cannot be blamed for the individual.
And if you want to touch a racist nerve, simply state the gospel truth that the confederate states of america started the civil war to protect the institution of slavery.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:28 pm
Lisa #29, I make this comment in response to the last several years of his vitriol.
And BTW…..HE is obsessed with racial animus…..he sees it where it doesn’t exist.
Like I said…….I have followed him for years………something is off.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:29 pm
Fred, Uh, maybe he is fed up with racism in America. You know, many of us are.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:30 pm
Jim, you think this country needs him to CONSTANTLY talk about racism and place his labels of racism on people with whom he doesnt agree? This guy is a cancer
August 31st, 2012 at 12:36 pm
Maybe Chris Matthews is trying to make us all aware of uncomfortable truths like racism?
If you were not white and subject to daily racism, you would want it pointed out all the time too. I mean look at how upset you are about hearing how racist our race can be to others.
Imagine if you were the blunt of that racism. If your emotions are so frazzled by hearing about it you wouldn’t survive having it tossed into your face 24/7 by whites who feel they are entitled to benefits because of their white skins.
I know how privileged I am to be white. I don’t go around like you and pretend that it isn’t so and thus the OTW is just playing some race card.
You sound like that tea party idiot making inane assertions to justify his beliefs.
Elliot
August 31st, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Fred, And what is it exactly that has you so scared of Chris Matthews? What is it you think is “wrong with him”? I think he’s telling a sad truth about this country and you simply, proverbially, can’t handle the truth.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:40 pm
To all of you jumping on me. I’m scared for him……not of him. I was a fan…bought his books……watched his show. I’m not some far right winger. I liked hearing the other side.
But now? There is no truth in what Chris says………..only a desperation to prove the other side is “evil”.
It’s not my style…………..and it has nothing to do with handling the “truth”. I’m fully aware of the flaws on both sides. Someone who thinks one side is evil and the other is right about everything………is avoiding the truth.

Give us the quotes of all the things that make you so afraid FOR Chris Matthews. This BS is ridiculous. You don’t agree with something he says. Fine.
If he lied about something PROVE IT. Don’t site there with all this wiffle-waffle nonsense. And believe me, you couldn’t be more wrong.
Plenty of times Chris defends “the other side” and I don’t necessarily agree with his assessment. But I don’t jump directly to “he’s mentally ill”!

I live in Tacloban City, Philippines. That was the strongest earthquake I ever felt. People went out of their houses, some were crying and some were praying, some where shouting and some where just speechless.
A few hours after the earthquake some people were running towards the streets and one guy said there is a tsunami coming.
But thank GOD there was none. To GOD be the glory.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:55 pm
Excuse me for asking Emil, but who the fuck caused the earthquake in the first place if it wasn’t your gottdamn god?
My love and prayers go out to those affected. Hoping all my friends and family are safe.

Some black motherfucker left work and returned with an AK47 and killed some people in the store where he worked.
Niggers don’t usually fit that profile so it the niggers are doing it, it may be time for some gun control.
August 31st, 2012 at 12:59 pm
Josh, you may have something, I’m about to change my mind on gun control…but gun or no guns, I’m sure these deranged people will find a way to hurt another. It’s very sad.
August 31st, 2012 at 1:00 pm
How about going back to spanking little white boys!! Before they kill someone!!
August 31st, 2012 at 1:01 pm
My condolences to the victims loved ones. Every week there is somebody else going postal. No civilian whould have access to an AK-47 assault rifle. They should be for military use only.
August 31st, 2012 at 1:01 pm
More guns. We need more guns. Every problem can be solved with more guns. A chicken in every pot, and 13 AK-47′s in every closet.
Let’s start sending our first graders to school with a Glock. They gotta learn early. Yep, more guns are the answer to all our problems.

What we have here is a society that is going mad. During good times people are happy. The fact is…….and spin this anyway you want……Starting in the bush administration we have gone downhill fast.
If this is not a depression, its damn close. you would think that one of the jobs of the politicians during bad times is to rally the troops together under the banner of hope.
By troops I mean us. While the ship sinks we have people arguing who is responsible for it when they should be manning the life boats.
Soothing peoples fears. What they?….If you are truely following the political stage you know who “they” are…
What they are doing is using this to promote fear and hate for each other. They are standing in the way of any legislation that could possibly lighten the burden or give us a ray of hope.
They are so consumed with their personal gain that we are nothing to them. People see this. They lose hope. They lose the ability to care for thier families. They snap.
Look at the news this past year. People have gone past the breaking point. The politicians are fanning the flames in the hope that we turn all this on each other.
If this continues my fear is the people will turn this in the direction of the politicians. Anarchy is a bitch. You don’t want to live there.

Fran you may have something, This happened in West Virginia:
===========================
A gunman who fatally shot a West Virginia State Trooper and wounded another after they took him into custody for reckless driving is dead following a pair of shootings that left two dead and three injured, according to authorities.
Police say that Luke Baber used a weapon he had on his person at the time of his arrest to shoot and kill trooper Marshall Bailey from the rear of a police cruiser, WSAZ reports.
Bailey, 42, and his partner, Eric Workman, stopped Baber at approximately 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night when they noticed the suspect driving erratically near the Wallback park-and-ride off Interstate 79 in Clay County.
The troopers arrested Baber and placed him in the police car. As they waited for a tow truck to collect Baber’s vehicle, the suspect opened fire on the officers using his own 9mm weapon, WSAZ reports. He then used Bailey’s weapon to critically wound Workman.
Following the shootout, Baber fled the scene.
“The suspect traveled a short distance before a Roane County Deputy Sheriff located and engaged him,” police said in a statement.
“The suspect and the deputy sheriff exchanged fire. In that exchange, the suspect was killed and the deputy sheriff sustained non-life-threatening injuries.”

.There’s something strange at work here. Just lurking beneath the surface.
Eastwood got this from Gestalt; it is not original. When I saw Eastwood something clicked as he rambled on to the proverbial “empty chair”.
Need I say this man is a great actor, director, innovator, creator, politician ? His politics of the past generally bore a strong liberal slant.
What would be the most unique, powerful direction he could go if he wanted to sabotage the GOPer grid ?
Posters act with dismay at the “old age” slams, but by the same token are befuddled and deeply disappointed by the presence of this man, a cinema graphic hero, on a neocon stage.
One poster got it right, I believe, when she said one thing is certain, more will be said about the empty chair gig than Mitt Romney. It’s an old magician’s trick, for heaven’s sake. Distraction. Misdirection. Shifting focus.
Does anyone believe Clint Eastwood wouldn’t know that?
Look. There’s no grey area here. Either ole Clint is near the edge now, peeking into the void,
or he intentionally, with great cunning and skill, delivered the most convincing act of his career.
I fear the former. Prefer the latter.

Even though Clint was very disrespectful to Obama and the office of president, he is getting much more negative attention from the media than he deserves. Cable news channels, social media, and blogs are fixated on Clint today and most all is negative.
I found Ryan’s speech far more offensive and disrespectful to Obama, and the office of president because it was a blatant attempt to dupe the American people using outright lies.
It is so disappointing that the media is discussing at nauseum Clint’s not-so-funny attempt at humor instead of doing what professional journalists should be doing–correcting Ryan and Romney’s lies about Obama’s record and accomplishments.
The republicans are known for being dishonest and lying to win–it is time the media stopped letting them get away with it.

Fran and Peter, on the upside, this is evolution at it’s best. Incompetent cops are killed off to make room for better cops with stronger survival/safety instincts.
Going further still, we also lost a half-ass’d criminal to boot. Just looking for the upside folks, but go ahead and let the hateful responses begin. lol

Marking 25 Years of Progress
On Tuesday, I was honored to join many of my friends at a Chinatown community celebration of the progress we have made for San Francisco, the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community, and our country over the past 25 years. Chinatown was the first place I stopped after declaring my candidacy in 1987 and since then, we have strengthened future generations with the Chinese Student Protection Act of 1992, honored the heritage of the city and community by dedicating the Lim Poon Lee Post Office, and righted the wrongs of history with this year’s passage of a resolution of regret for the Chinese Exclusion Act.
With the help of community leaders over the years, we have fought to secure funding to restore Angel Island, support the Chinese Hospital and Nihonmachi Terrace and, more recently, build the Central Subway. By increasing transportation options between the vibrant heart of Chinatown and the economic engine of downtown, the Central Subway project will promote commerce, improve mobility and reduce air pollution for all of San Francisco.
Despite our collective achievements, there is still more to do. Like millions of Americans, AAPI families face economic hardship, a lack of opportunity, and the lingering effects of our recent downturn. As a community and as a nation, we will keep making progress to reignite the American dream for all, regardless of race, ethnicity or background.
Congresswoman Pelosi receives a plaque from long time friends and event organizers commemorating her 25 years of service to San Francisco.
New Steps towards Energy Independence
On Tuesday, President Obama announced new fuel economy standards for cars and light-duty trucks. The announcement fulfills the promise of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, a bipartisan law designed to increase energy efficiency, save drivers money, reduce pollution, and strengthen our security by making America less dependent on foreign oil. Due to policies like those contained in the 2007 law, dependence on foreign oil has dropped by 25 percent and our domestic oil and gas production is at record levels. Democrats are committed to working with President Obama to continue driving innovation, protecting consumers, and putting Americans back to work in the clean energy jobs of tomorrow.
Revitalizing our Economy
On Labor Day, we renew our commitment to strengthening America’s workforce, expanding job opportunities, and fulfilling the goals at the heart of our economic success: a full day’s pay for an honest day’s work, fair treatment in the workplace, and equal opportunity for all. Democrats have put forward a clear agenda: to strengthen manufacturers and small businesses, to rebuild our roads, bridges, schools, and airports, to invest in innovation and clean energy. Unfortunately, the House Republican majority has failed to pass legislation to create jobs and put Americans back to work. Congress must focus squarely on getting our economy back on track and strengthening the middle class.

Romney! You are leading the GOP as an extreme camp– gold standard, rape, abortion, gay and lesbians, immigration, welfare, medicare, medicaid, war, outsourcing, tax breaks for the rich like yourself, etc.
You are destroying your own people. You are out of touch with ordinary Americans. You are playing a dangerous pipe.

Maybe the lying epidemic began when we started believing that voodoo economics would be good for America. Trickle down started with just trickles of lies and now we are daily treated to a cascade via media, Washington, and the biggest liars of all — corporate persons and Wall Street vultures.

You know something is SERIOUSLY WRONG with the Current REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE Mitt Romney…..
When Paul Ryans speech today WAS STILL TRYING TO SELL US MITT! That part of the routine should have been solved months ago.
So apparently they still have serious issues with Mitt that they cannot with the will of God overcome.
August 31st, 2012 at 3:49 pm
The thing is, the republican constituents do not care. They do not mind being lied to and actually seem to enjoy it. As long as you are saying what they want to hear they will welcome the words.
August 31st, 2012 at 4:14 pm
Mitt Romney said he wanted Obama to succeed. However his vice presidential candidate vowed to hurt the economy and make him fail along with 14 other Republicans three and half years ago.

It actually started with Reagan.
Note that this guy was speaking in a Church, a Church of all places !!, on how to circumvent the teachings of Jesus.
Paul Weyrich, Father of the Reagan Revolution, Founding Father of the Social Conservative Movement, co-founder of the Heritage Foundation and the Free Congress Foundation speaking in a church to Republican activists (and probably not knowing he was being recorded) said this:
How many of our Christians have what I call the goo-goo syndrome? Good government.
They want everybody to vote!
I don’t want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people, they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as voting populace goes down.
On edit: The GOP has been carrying out Weyrich’s strategy in every election since Reagan, Rove has been a leader in the effort as has Tom Delay. The GOP has now passed laws across the country to take control of voter rolls which resulted in the theft of two Presidential elections:
Thousands of African Americans were disenfranchised in Florida in 2000.
Tens of thousands of African and Hispanic Americans were disenfranchised in 2004.

The repub’s guile was matched by O team’s blithe determination to play nice. That combination has led to where it has led throughout history: nice guys finish last.
August 31st, 2012 at 4:36 pm
you’re so right – Obama stood there and didn’t realise he was in a fight until he was on the mat….
Hopefully he has learned that lesson, but as a burned progressive I am dissapointed in his combat skills.

A free country should allow weeks of voting….voting should be the easiest thing in the world. Kudos to the judge who protected the right of the Ohio voters.

I am an arab american. My family has been here longer that millions of whites, yet any one of them can get more favorable treatment than I can.
That’s why I was bothered to hear this race baiting from Romney. Romney said “When the world needs to do really big stuff we need an american.”
The implication is that Obama isn’t an American. Why, well because americans are white.
Those of you who pretend not to get the implication are liars, plain and simple.
Boulos.

If romney/ryan win,we all lose. At least 99% of the country does. And don’t you think that there is a bit too much “church and state” bullshit going on? Mormonism is much like Moronism, just who are these secrective morons anyway? We should know much more about these moronic cultists and their agenda. It all has no place in US politics and is giving women the option of being a doormat or a gender without any say about anything once they have cast their vote.
Romney will turn this nation into a monarchy, where ones wealth decides ones value and some will live as royalty.

I hear you loud and clear.
Even in the wake of the GOP’s ‘bells and whistles’ election campaign (that wrought gain any positive results for the poor, immigrants, blacks, the long time unemployed, women’s rights and the middle class) —
the real irony is recent Tropical Storm Isaac and it’s reminder of the Hurricane Katrina disaster which took place at the same time the Republican Convention spreads their toxic well-packaged political message to masses.
And yet now, there are reports of the 2012 election being rigged (voter tampering, caging votes, new voter ID requirements, back-room deals etc).
One may think the ‘depression’ not so bad for them because they are still employed or may have a thriving business and sort-of live well off.
But things are going to get a lot worst for women’s rights, immigrants, the middle class, the poor, and especially for blacks no matter who is in charge.
Democrates or Republicans, it’s just a matter of degree of harm inflected. Take Fox news, NRA, the Federal Reserve, Koch brothers, Neo Conservatives, Carl Rove, GOP, The Tea Party one side and progressives, Hollywood, George Soros and company, Move On.org, Code Pink, OWS, Michael Moore, DEMs, unions, the young and (don’t forget about Oprah’s influence) on the other side, it just wrought matter whose horse gets into power as long as fundamental change in our system has not achieved.

Men even rape men.
=============
Honolulu – Sexual assault charges have been filed against Dennis Henry, a male nurse at the Kwajalein Hospital in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a crew member of the Guam based USCG Cutter “Sequoia”.
According to a release issued by the Honolulu FBI office, Henry was arrested this past Saturday in the Marshall Islands and has been transported back to Hawaii to face a charge of aggravated sexual abuse.
The alleged assault occurred on March 25th. Henry is accused of knowingly administering the drug Ambien to the “Sequoia” crew member, identified as “G.C.”, who was on liberty while the cutter was docked at an Army base on Kwajalein Atoll.
Ambien is a medication used to treat insomnia. It is also a muscle relaxant in addition to its sleep inducing effects. Its impact is “enhanced when used in combination with alcohol.”
According to the FBI affidavit, Henry told investigators that the sex was consensual, but denied administering Ambien to “GC”.
“G.C.” admitted he was intoxicated, but denied taking Ambien and denied ever engaging in “consensual sex with any other male.” Laboratory tests found the presence Ambien in his system.
Special Agent Ford states in his affidavit that “probable cause exists that, Dennis Henry .. did knowingly administer … without the permission of G.C. .. Ambien, and thereby substantially impaired the ability of G.C. to control his conduct and did thereby knowingly engage in a sexual act.”

I heard an evidently conservative woman talking openly on national radio saying she can’t look at Michelle and doesn’t like all the stuff she’s doing, distrusts a black president (racism talking?) .
Not liking fighting obesity, getting folks to eat more healthfully, not like speaking up about education, not wanting the middle class to get a fairer shake instead of the 1% being advantaged by a rigged tax system? Yes, that’s the GOP party line, lady . Booo!!
September 1st, 2012 at 12:34 am
While the GOP keeps harping on the President’s unfulfilled promises, many so because of GOP obstruction, the GOP certainly isn’t slacking in presenting very big claims of what they purport to accomplish IF winning the election.
As we know, promising is what pols do, right? Way too easy to make, not easy to follow through most of the time (hardly ever!).
