Saturday Sickos

Good afternoon.

This kind of behavior sickens me. I cannot ever imagine getting excited about participating in something so selfish and disgusting.

Giraffes gunned down for family holiday ‘fun’

Holiday horror ... families like this one pay tens of thousands to shoot dead giraffes on legal hunts

Holiday horror … families like this one pay tens of thousands to shoot dead giraffes on legal hunts

A FAMILY poses for a happy holiday snap – standing proudly beside the giraffe they have just shot dead for sport.

Tourists like these are paying tens of thousands of pounds to legally hunt giraffe, the elegant, gentle giants of the animal kingdom.

Many take the animals’ heads home as a sick trophy of their African “adventure”.

Majestic ... a giraffe
Majestic … a giraffe

Giraffe expert Dr Julian Fennessey said: “Some come from Britain but the big majority are from North America, Germany, Russia and Scandinavia.

“Some hunters just like to have photos taken next to the dead giraffe.

“But others pay taxidermists to mount the head so they can take them home as a souvenir. Or they might want to take the skin.”

The hunters pay up to £10,000 for the giraffe-hunting expeditions, which target the larger males.

Safari clubs and game reserves ask for a £1,500 trophy fee and add £1,000 a day for guides and trackers.

The giraffe population has nearly halved since 1988 — falling from more than 140,000 to fewer than 80,000.

They are now thought to be extinct in places such as Angola, Mali and Nigeria.

But in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe it is still legal to hunt them.

Joe Duckworth, of The League Against Cruel Sports, said: “It is immensely selfish to kill these animals.

Hunt fan ... and victim
Hunt fan … and victim

“It beggars belief some people find it acceptable to kill them to have their picture with the dead animal.”

But the owner of one South African hunting firm, who refused to be named, defended the killings.

The boss said: “These are legal hunts, by professionals on private land.

“There will always be emotion from people who are not hunters when they see dead animals, but these are very regulated practises. Rhino and other animals have been saved through conservation and the most money for conservation is generated from hunting.”

Sick trophy ... hunt pals
Sick trophy … hunt pals

Dr Fennessy, of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, has controversially argued in favour of hunting.

He said: “In the countries where you can hunt legally, the populations are increasing but across Africa the numbers are dropping.

“It shows that if properly managed, the hunting can be sustainable.”

  1. Zen Lill Says:

#43 anon, some of them may even have a formal education but ignorance in an entire culture (Southern, dixiecrat country) is tough to eradicate.

Repugs are very upset by the taxation set backs and they aren’t hiding what they think about the man in the ‘white’ house, yikes…

Most I know are pissed at their own party though, they know if Mitt was the best they could put forward, things are pretty f’in bad…

Most peeps in that 200K range are not happy at all, been hearing earfuls about it, they don’t consider themselves rich at all and here in So CA, it’s not really…

…and I’m outta here, Luv, Zen Lill

PS cannot even comment on animal cruelty like this, it’s beyond insane. Hunting gives them money for conservation, wtf…? Sound like an oxymoron

  2. Holly Says:

I cant agree with you more Zen Lill…sometimes I think it wouldnt be so bad if the world came to and end and the only surviving things wre the animals..if humans were wiped off the face of the earth it would be a better planet.

  3. MaryAlice Says:

Heaven help the future of our planet with people like THAT – educating their young that the disrespect and the taking of any life is acceptable – it is not.

I don’t care about the adults, they will be gone soon so not wasting any time trying to educate them – but these CHILDREN – where is our world going with children like this who one day will be entrusted with our planet ? !!!!

They all stand, smile and look proud because they shot down in cowardly cold blood this precious part of our living world. God was having a bad hair day when he made the human animal, that is for sure – pure evil are these types :( too bad the animals can’t shoot back !

  4. Heather Says:

It’s murder; Shameful, Cowardice, Greedy, and sickly abusive. Their false pride is full of denial and self righteous acting out of deep hate. Their values have been abandoned.

These people are unable to think rationally. They put them selves at the top above all else. They must want to prove them selves to be part of a group whom values this trophy killing.

We all need to speak out for these innocent animals.

  5. Jason Says:

Shooting a giraffe is like shooting a koala bear. Who are these idiots? Why don`t they do the same to themselves? Use one of your kids for bate instead of paying thousands of dollars to go shoot innocent animals?

There are so many poor people across the world you could give the money to but what have you archive by killing such a majestic creature.

  6. Gibson Says:

This brings me to tears, watching people handle nature carelessly without thought of tomorrow :(

  7. Melissa Says:

Just goes to prove my opinion that man(un)kind is nature’s biggest mistake. These people are a waste of oxygen. Can you even imagine bragging about killing one? With a gun no less?

I want to see someone have the balls to take a giraffe (or any other wildlife) on with a knife. I have serious doubts about the sanity of most humans.

We are parasites on this great and priceless planet…wish I hadnt seen these photos..thanks for the story and I hope it provokes the outrage that it should. Beyond disgusting….

  8. Patty Says:

I’m sorry Michelle, I couldn’t get in the other day to comment on this madness. But I refuse to address it on yesterday’s article about Monsanto’s murdering humans.

We are more capable of defending ourselves from each other than these Giraffes are against our wanton evil. It needs to be here so that future people reading this article will know that SOMEONE objected to this madness.

This is so sad and no excuse for it. OMG, why would they want to do this, and also teaching this to their kids? They are so beautiful and majestic, what is wrong with people? This makes me want to cry.

  9. Anita Says:

Here is my view on the killing of these gentle giants……Cowards….that’s all you are….

Want to go to Africa for the kill then at least try for an animal that will give you the run for your money!!! Not one that I would trust you.

Stands still so you can be the “Animal” yourself and kill them…..
Also ….Teaching your children to kill… innocent animals…That should help them grow up with a nice thrill in their system…

  10. Rina Says:

Horrific! Shame on these morally bankrupt, anthropocentric wastes of human protoplasm

  11. Keith Says:

THE SAME SHOULD BE DONE TO THEM, THEN LEAVE THEM ALL, TO ROT IN HELL.

SO SO SAD, WHEN WILL WE, ALL OF US, STOP THIS.

  12. DebbieJo Says:

To the owner of that private land I say, you sir are an ass. My father has been a hunter for over 60 years and has never killed anything he did not eat. He taught me well.

He taught me to respect life and that to kill an animal just for sport is a waste and a danger to the balance of nature. I suggest you be careful in the woods with your “gunho buddy” folks like that tend to shoot at anything that moves. Including you.

  13. Burdick Says:

No words can express the disgust I feel regarding this. and to take your children to watch you destroy one of gods creatures for no other reason that novelty…wonderful lesson your teaching your children. Well one day you will reap what you sew…I only hope it is sooner than later.

  14. Gracie Says:

    Family Fun or Family Shame?

  15. Beno Says:

I would love to wipe those smiles off their faces. This sickens me to the core. The distinction between legal and immoral draws a fine line.

I wonder, what do they do with giraff carcass afterwords? It wouldn’t be so bad if they ate all the meat and used the bones for tools.

After all each year we slaughter millions of pigs, cows, chickens, ducks, deer, fish, crustaceans etc. However, something tells me that doesn’t happen very often.

  16. Ramsey Says:

That is disgusting, i hope these folk rot for what they are doing.

  17. Gina Says:

This is heartbreaking and sick!!!!!!!!!! These people, and may God forgive me, these people should have been at that theater in Colorado that night in order to feel what it’s like to be gunned down and hunted. I mean that.

How the hell do people become so insensitive to such loving creatures that God has put on this earth. A giraffe will gently approach a person and lick the carrot out of one’s hand and stroke one’s cheek with its eyelashes.

I know this because it happened to me. I am so angry and upset with these people. How can I do something about this???? I will look into it. More people need to know about these evil people. Donald trumps disgusting sons partake in this too.

They killed a cheetah. A cheetah will befriend a dog..as many of them do at the zoos. They sleep with labs because they get lonely. OH I JUST CAN’T BELIEVE THE PHOTOS OF THESE SICK PEOPLE!!

  18. Sherwood Says:

Well, since its technically not illegal in most parts of the US, ill just hunt down their dog or cat, take a picture next to it and send it to them….its just a hunting practice after all.

  19. Margie Says:

DebbieJo, I agree with you. Hunting for food is a good thing in my book,,,but this is disgusting

  20. Harry Says:

    Disgraceful!

They have you a big gun ? It’s a pity their brains are not as big.

  21. Sparky Says:

Hey how goes it “hunting is the best way of conservation”? Thats like saying car accidents are the best way to conserve junkyards. Killing animals doesn’t conserve them unless you live in the bizzarro world.

And yes agricultural farming has its horrors a documentary on HBO called ‘death on the farm ‘ shows how bad it is. Difference is farms breed for slaughter in the wild breeding is subject to many obstacles, drought, predators , moronic hunters, poachers etc.

“Anyone who isn’t a hunter of course will have an emotional response to these photos’ wrong anyone who has an ounce of compassion will. There are far better ways of conserving these animals without killing them to save them in your chop logic.

Rhinos and elephants are now being tracked and they are having their tusks and horns removed which makes them useless to poachers. No ivory no profit. And this helps the local economy?

How did the locals survive before these $100,000 vacations were established? Unless hundreds of years ago these trips for the rich and infamous were going on then too.

  22. Justin Says:

Thismakes me sick. Those parents are total freakshows. I feel so sorry for those brainwashed children. What type of Government would condone that sort of behaviour from one of its citizens? So glad I’m from Australia. We just have to get rid of Japanese Whalers and we’ll all be happy.

  23. Justin Says:

This makes me sick. Those parents are total freakshows. I feel so sorry for those brainwashed children. What type of Government would condone that sort of behaviour from one of its citizens? So glad I’m from Australia. We just have to get rid of Japanese Whalers and we’ll all be happy.

  24. Lara Says:

I think it`s a sad representation of the horrible state our world is now.

Thank you to the Sun for sharing this. Is there any way we could write somewhere to complain?
I am a Vegan. I love animals so much, that I don`t even want to eat them!

Seeing this horror just makes me want to gag… I hope these families get what they deserve.

Nature will take it`s revenge eventually.

  25. Helenna Says:

If there`s such a term as “Killing for Sport“… can we invent one entitled “Revenge for sport“?

because…I`d sure take up that new sport in an instant! Let them hunters run away and…..voila! then you get to pose the guilty hunters in the position of your choice and take a picture next to them to put on your facebook! ROFL!!!

Seriously…this craziness has got to stop. And the only way that it will, is if we stand up in numbers and complain and protest. Really…. otherwise it will never stop.

  26. Gavin Says:

Someone should put their prideful, ignorant butts out there to be hunted…This makes me so ill, that words cannot even explain it…We are indeed a sick world..

What people find as entertainment…Instead of using money for a worthy cause they find their joy in doing this horrible act.. I can understand killing for food. When it is necessary..to feed a family.

But this just makes me ill…especially the family on top, with their child in the middle of the animal. Oh my God, help us….for what are we allowing to be done to Your creation…

  27. Corlyn Says:

Not cool and it needs to STOP!

  28. Roberta Says:

Hmm. Actually I grew up in a hunting family. When I was a child my family hunted to live. Eventually my grandfather became so sickened by the killing that he stopped.

But it was never “sport,” and I can’t imagine him or anyone else in my family “mugging” for the camera in this way. And if anyone thinks I haven’t thought about this until now, well it’s “obvious” they haven’t thought that one through.

Africa, along with most of the planet has mostly become wasteland devoid of animal life. Sure there are pockets of protected species, but the animals that lived there even a generation ago are long gone. In a generation from now, photos like these will be judged very harshly.

  29. Solle Says:

These people should be ASHAMED! What a LOW pasttime!!! Barbarians, truly. Just awful.

Why can’t they go there and enjoy taking pictures and watching the beautiful animals? Instead they must KILL? Terrible, horrible people.

  30. Moses Says:

    We suck!

  31. Michelle Says:

This is absolutely outrageous, beautiful is the only word to describe a Giraffe. Why people feel a need to hunt down these graceful animals is beyond any comprehension. This needs to STOP!!!!!

  32. Skalmenson Says:

Tourists you would not think this fun if you were on the receiving end of the gun:(

  33. Asuntb Says:

This is a CRIMEN. These people should go to jail. What is the fun killing innocent animals…. I have not words to express my angry about this horrible images. This sight filled me with horror!!!!

  34. Teena Says:

Omg..how sad is that, why is this allowed? These bunch of idiots that call them selves a family think this is cool and they are heros…

Michelle, I could say so much but this is not the place, I would love to meet this family ….but then again that wouldn’t be a good idea.

I HATE cruelty to animals and anyone who does this is so very weak, I’m totaly disgusted at the way some people treat animals..:(

  35. John Says:

Those darn Giraffes are dangerous, maybe they got to close to the man’s family and he took them out with a rifle. Let’s not be to hasty to blame the dad first.

Most Giraffes are irrational and those ones probably charge and got the business end of a 30.06 caliber.

  36. Holly Says:

I wonder if the people in the pictures have any idea that their lovely portraits are the topic of so much conversation and disdain by the high majority of people on this discussion board.

Maybe if they knew most people were not proud of them or envious of them or happy for them..perhaps some shame might creep in…but then people that do this sort of thing in a world that could be so beautiful and kind…well…they probably just wouldn’t care.

  37. Ito Says:

Michelle, That is one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen!

  38. George Says:

Sparky one, you raise some good points. I do hunt, not for the biggest trophy animal or the most dangerous beast but to provide food for my family which is not pumped full of hormones or raised unethically.

I too highly dislike the whole idea of people hunting for a rug or a trophy. My point about “without hunting many more animals would of allready been extinct” is that if it wasn’t for the people that spend so much money on “killing sports” there wouldn’t be game reserves where animals are protected from over harvesting, poaching or unregulated hunting.

Yes it is sad, but personally i would rather have a few animals harvested for profit and have some of that money going into the protection of other animals then no protection at all and seeing the animals killed off until there isn’t any of them left.

How many of you people would send money to Africa to save animals? Also for those people who are saying things like life for a life and such, if you eat meat you might as well go off yourself.

Hypocrites. In a perfect world all animals would be protected but realistically its far from that. People are greedy and for the most part they don’t care about anyone but themselves.

People love to have all kinds of opinions about all the bad things but when it comes down to doing something about it most people don’t.

  39. Artie Says:

how awful……how could they feel proud…..

  40. Mike Says:

What happend to camping, fishing site seeing even tennis. Anyone can kill an animal with a big gun thats not sport that’s just plain pathetic.

American Indians for trial of passage would slap a grizzly I’d like to see these people try to slap a giraffe. Sad thing this crap killing won’t ever stop its all about money.

If I had a gun I say let’s take shots at them and mount their heads on walls.

  41. Kay Says:

i agree with you Zen Lill, “Hunting gives them money for conservation, wtf…? Sound like an oxymoron.”

George, With respect, you are quite right when you say that many of these animals have been saved through conservation but that is as far as your truth goes!

I would love to hear you argue your case with the likes of Virginia McKenna, Will Travers or Ric O’Barry. These people work tirelessly for conservation and have proved that local people can be supported and build livelihoods in wildlife protection.

I am not against hunting if it is for food/survival but it should never be for thrill, fun or glory. I have nothing but pity for the people in these pictures, they show to the public that they are ignorant, shallow and selfish. I hope they might look at all of these comments and realise that they made a seriously bad holiday choice!

  42. Aysel Says:

I am an ex-South African living in Turkey. We have unimaginable animal cruely here, and this is just plain embarrassing to the human species and prooves that we have not come so far as we claim, this isnt intelligence, what do these people think?

They are just as indispensable as those giraffes. These countries that support hunting for monetary gain are just plain ignorant.

I lived in Africa, “there isnt enough space hence culling etc” doesnt churn very well with me, tourism for seriously mentally retarded people who have absolutely no respect for this world….. or the next for that matter means so much more than their claim “to revive and protect endangered species….and to maintain healthy wildlife”….

Now, when somebody is murdered etc, justice is normally served, right? We demand justice… In this case it isnt, so I say let the murderers go free, just like them. Hopefully nothig tragic will happen to their families……just a thought.

  43. Holly Says:

You are both Totally right Zen Lill and Kay..besides it has been shown that the animals don’t have to be slaughtered in order to make livelihood for the surrounding villages as many tourists will pay to just see the animals in their natural habitat.

The villages economy is boosted while the animals are being allowed to reproduce and are protected from poachers as the villagers want to protect the animals AND their income.

Why is killing something always the first option for some people, and what gives us the right as fellow animals on this earth to determine when another animal should die.

  44. Osumare Says:

Well said Mike!!! And many thanks to you Michelle for posting this article.

Africa and its animals are much beholden to you.

  45. Whitney Says:

It’s such a shame to see these sick people having fun with someone’s pain and death.

This should be banned for life. Giraffes deserve the same respect as any other species. Leave them alone for God’s sake!!!!!

  46. Scott Says:

Case in point look at the Tasmanian tiger and dodo bird. Species we annihilated. Everyone on this board has excellent feedback. So what are the next steps? Education to our children that food is food but rugs are not to be admired.

I live in Quebec and yes deer and Moose are two game animals but they are eaten. Now I personally want to see a live Moose in my yard but have only seen three dead ones due to hunting.

I wish before I die I could see a friggin Moose walking around. As far as hunting it’s not for me, but I am happy that it is done for necessity.

I have also read in Texas they like to tie up exotic species for a sporting shot basically animal is probably ten feet from you on a chain and executed.

If anyone wants to go on the theory that we came from apes I’d rather say we came from the bottom recesses of toilets then to insult our ape brethren.

  47. Rachael Says:

when have they started eating girraffe?

  48. Jennifer Says:

People like this should be shot. Its disgusting and shows how weak sorry and sooo depressive they are. If I was a member of this family (thank god I am not), I would actually seek a GP opinion or the mental health hospital. Disgusting people that this world doesn’t need.

  49. George, WN Says:

Who cares what you people think? It’s fun to hunt and to kill; back in the day nigger were a favorite. As a matter of fact I’m going turkey hunting on Saturday in Alabama with a young man who’s even more gung ho about it than I am. If we kill a couple of the birds I’ll be sure to send them to the Sun to be posted.

Anyway most of the objections here seem to be from hysterical geldings and women. No surprise.

  50. Dunia Says:

If the world could be kinder to its defenseless animals, it could just possibly fine it in its heart to be good to each other.
